Concious decisions
phpBB [video]

The rain fell hard on the dark and cloudy night that draped Waterfall country, the citizens of this turmoil country had gone to shelter, weathering the upcoming storm. Thunder clapped, lighting up the slamming window guards, revealing a black dot creeping about at dreadful hours. Agent Y was loose, after a specific criminal that was hiding about. His days of scouring the earth with ally secrets were over, though not her place she still knew the value of such information and took it upon herself to take of said problem free of charge.

Bond is what keeps us from becoming selfish, without reason one becomes a walking weapon of mass destruction. The masked ninja was dressed in her cloak, black sneaking suit, and black mask, the cloak was deactivated and appeared as any other. Rain drenched the outside, though fortunately, the soldier felt dry within her outfit. et's see here, he's a Yamanaka, which should be conscious transfering. Genjutsu and overwhelm with Taijutsu and you should be good.

Hotaru moved silently through the woods, echolocating with the raindrops that smattered through the roofs, the force kept her from reaching far as it overwhelmed her sensors, only allowing her to spot up to 50 meters, she sensed how families hid under tables, clutching their loved ones, hoping that the storm would not come to fruition. She thought for a second about how things could have been if she never trained in the art of Shinobi, to withstand extreme temperatures and still be able to function, before being snapped back to action.

Moving through the rooftops gave her the advantage of being undetected, though it didn't mean that she didn't cling to the shadows as she lurked. Yamanaka, Inozu was her target and he was going to meet his end tonight, Konoha was going to have one less headache from here on out, it was all a matter of time. Kirie had teased Hotaru for going invisible the last time and told her that she was nothing without her "cheating", to which Hotaru responded that the Shinobi world is not a game. Yet, here she was, dressed in her executioner set, ready to another not to a story.

I know I shouldn't let my ego get the best of me, but I have to prove that I am something without it, the cloak doesn't make the weapon. Hotaru stopped, closed her eyes, and sensed for the presence of her target.

It's going to be a rough one.

Inozu tried to keep the negativity out of the thought, knowing it wouldn't help. But he couldn't stop his mind from predicting the future. Rain like this with wind like this? That almost always meant damage to the village, usually due to some shoddy workmanship on some poor locals' house.

Sighing already at the thought, Inozu tossed another log into the central fire of his remote cabin in the woods. The moment it stopped raining, he would have to begin collecting wood as there would surely be a shortage both for fire and for building. Oh well, it's not like he had anything better to do. And it's not like he didn't love having a reason to help them out, there was just something cathartic about acting like he hated it all.

Grinning at his own nonsense, Inozu stood and patted the dirt off his shoulders while staring out into the dark stormy night. With a sigh of decisiveness, he packed up his gear and an umbrella and left, aiming to head into town. May as well get a head start on the trouble and make tomorrow less difficult. Surely somebody would have something for him to help out with, and if not, there was bound to be somebody with a drink to help him shake off the cold loneliness that came with such storms.

Without any reason to sense fear or suspicion, the ex-shinobi walked off fully equipped into the woods heading into the village.

Rain is so annoying.

Hotaru grunted as she moved about the streets, though, she was still using the rooftops to stay hidden, she could sense how people tried their best to move about, some tried to exit their homes to gather items while others stayed put. I guess some don't believe the storm is on its way huh? Hotaru knew better than to question people and their decisions, especially when things were tight. She, herself had been raised in such a small village, she knew how it was to be desperate, though she could not compare how it was to be poor like she was and how it was to be desperate as she could sense from her vicinity.

Either way, she knew that she was getting tired of these streets, the rain was already getting to her, even though she was dry. It was the bitter cold that slowly moved inwards, biting at her fingertips at first and then at her toes, she knew that with time it would only get worse and whenever she took off her clothes, they would be wet and soggy, which again would annoy her. Fortunately for the Black ops agent, others would dry clean her gear but still, the point still stood. She wanted to find her target as fast as she could and then end his life so that she could return the head to Konoha in one piece.

Where are you little Inozu, how lost are you little lamb? Where have you run off to? Come back to me little lamb and I'll guide you back home, but if you continue to run, I'll chase you to the ends of the earth and return you to slaughter. Hotaru chuckled under her breath, this hunting ordeal was starting to make her far more ruthless than necessary, life had started to have another meaning for her, it seemed that missing ninjas were not something worth forgiving, especially post the invasion situation, post-Chiaki.

We still need to investigate what happened that fateful night, what made Hanako leave, and how the four shinobi died. Was it truly just Chiaki or what was it Hanako said? Hotaru scanned the area before leaping up one branch as she continued to search for Inozu, time would tell when she would find him. She stopped searching once she spotted a young woman covering for her daughter as they ran through the heavy rain.

"Come Kirike, we need to hurry before the storm picks up!" The child excused themselves and cried out as she was scared, the super spy felt how her heartstrings were tugged, though she knew better than to be distracted, that's how agents got killed. She would follow the family for now, just to make sure that they made it out okay before she would turn her focus back on the hunt.

He would be lying if he said he didn't enjoy how cool he looked right now. He had no problem with wearing wet clothes and his constitution would be more than fine, so he was currently just trotting through the dark woods with no cover against the rain. He loved this. The smell in the air, the oppressive sound of rain spattering against the ground and that interesting hovering mist of the splashes.

He was likely going to end up dying in this village, he couldn't imagine leaving it again. And here comes one of the best parts: civilians that he could help almost every day. It was almost comical how much assistance they needed, and it suited him perfectly. Absolutely nothing felt as rewarding as solving other peoples problems, it felt like he was directly undoing his wrongs.

Surely nothing toxic in that thinking. Smiling at his just barely there self-awareness, Inozu performed a set of handseals and transformed into a familiar figure to the two damsels in distress he could see in the far off distance. He did it discretely so he could give them a fun little surprise.

"Looks like somebody didn't look up at the cloud today!" Inozu came into the two women's view and jogged to catch up, speaking loudly towards them so that they'd hear and turn around. When they turned, they'd see a large burly lumberjack-looking man holding two very large umbrellas. The man looked nothing like Inozu and was a strange fella, he looked like the most attractive boy at school got dropped on his head, fed steroids and made to work on a farm before escaping to a life of lumberjackery. Most would argue he looked creepy, but certainly within the bounds of normal human creepiness.

The two women, to any random out-of-town onlookers, would surprisingly not yell out at the call from the strangest of strangers. Instead, their smiles broke wide and they quickly huddled towards the protection of his blankets without a care for normal refusal etiquette. His height was absolutely perfect for the situation and his overlapping umbrellas covered the three of them as the mom and daughter had their-wet dog moment.

Beaming, Inozu chuckled and continued on with the bit he had done so many times before. He often used his transformation jutsu to make things more fun and would play a variety of bits, this was one he liked to do when he was acting like a manly man, savior of dames.

"It's dangerous to walk around these here parts with no rainial protection gear, miss and miss jr." he spoke with a goofy tone while giving the smaller of his two large umbrellas to the mother to hold for herself once she was semi-dried enough to feel human again. Laughing and responding back with familiarity, she took the umbrella and the trio set off into town. This wasnt the first time he had played rain escort.

Hotaru continued to follow the duo as she kept pondering if she should assist them or not, her protocol told her that she was to leave no traces and that would mean no witnesses. She would actively do her best to refrain from killing innocent people, but orders are orders, there was little she could control when outside sources butted in. Nevertheless, she stayed hidden in the dark, doing her best to both blend in with her surroundings and use the shadow to cloak her appearance from outside eyes. Let's just hope that these two get to safety and nothing complicates this mission.

Hotaru stopped moving once she felt someone channel a jutsu, her clairvoyance pinged the target up ahead and showed her mind's eye how a man fitting Inozu's description cast a jutsu to change its appearance. I see... Hotaru took note of it and followed along, she wondered what his play was and would soon be greeted with a rather wholesome scene, the burly man—Inozu in disguise— shelter the women and begin to guide them towards what she presumed were their homes, she chuckled for herself and began to blush.

What a nice young man, it's a shame that we are on opposite sides of this spectrum. I can almost see it in my heart to forgive you Hotaru was teasing herself, as she knew that the orders were clear, though what she saw gave her a moment of rest, she was feeling some type of way. Was she truly capable of killing someone who seemed to be doing good?

Reports had come in that he was protecting the people, that he had left the village by running away from his duties, though from the looks of it, he picked up other duties. Had he not been a Yamanaka then she was sure that his deeds would be forgiven, but alas, he was a clan member and they didn't take defection as lightly, though truth be told, it was weird that they hadn't sent a Yamanaka to capture him for a while, the last one was named Chie and she seemed to have a soft heart, which Hotaru seemed to lack.

They said that he was an intelligent man, I can now see why, integrating oneself with a village and genuinely care for them is a smart move to get empathetic hunters off your back. Her black ops humor got the best of her as she snorted from giggling, she knew that there wasn't anything called an "empathetic hunter", the very idea was an oxymoron, or so she was raised to believe.

Inozu laughed heartily, really laying into it for the temporary persona but genuinely feeling the laugh. This kind of scenario always left him wondering if maybe he couldn't try for a family.... he knows he'd be happy... probably.

"I hope you both know when we you arrive, there's a per-step charge on this umbrella rental. Not to mention the convenience and lumberjack-view fees. Luckily for you we have an installment plan that only charges 300% interest" Smiling widely and with obvious sarcasm, he trotted along cheerfully. He had to push the thought from his mind and replace it with his reality. Nothing he did changed the fact that he was a wanted man, a target. It had been a while but not long enough to put a family at risk over it.

A sudden gasp from the mother caught both the fake Inozu and the young girl's attention, and soon were both jogging to catch up to the panicking mother as she rushed into their home in the edge of the village. Rain was pouring in from the ceiling at such a point that it could be seen from the outside through the windows. Her husband was rather uselessly trying to contain the leak, but he had to be fixing the problem.

Letting his big umbrella go with a poof and undoing his technique on it, Inozu still in his cartoonish appearance did a series of handseals and focused above the home. Slowly a large barrier formed above it, created at a diagonal so that the entirety of the house was beneath the barrier and the rain fell to the side of it. Yelling from further in the village pulled Inozu's attention as he stepped to go help repair the ceiling.

Hesitating for a moment, his instincts kicked in and he made a decision. His disguise and the girl's umbrella suddenly poofed out of existence as he continued handseals and focused his gaze on the husband inside. He formed a thought within his mind, formed a connection with the husband, and quickly transmitted the conscience command before jetting off into town.

"I need to delegate the water to my wife and focus on getting the materials and help i need to fix this roof while the barrier stands"

Running quickly, he headed into the center of the village where one person's yell was quickly becoming several.

Man... It's almost like Inozu is a gift from above.

She contemplated whether to kill the man now before the witnesses could react, but the Yamanaka intrigued her, it made her question whether this man was truly a missing ninja or not, why would he escape his duties to live like a farmer? Why didn't he just request an absence of leave and just report back to his country? Was it because he knew that he would be put on the reserve list?

Konoha and Kumogakure were recently dragged into war with Iwagakure over the borders of Wind Country, the Yamanaka could have been of great use, but instead, he had chosen to hide among the civilians, though from the looks of it, he was some sort of hero to the people. This is strange, on the one hand, he seems to be a gold-hearted person who does his best to help those around him, but on the other, he still carries state and clan secrets... Decisions, decisions. This hunt was truly a conflict of interest and morals, the spy wasn't used to being put in a position such as this, it usually was simpler than this.

His reports claimed that the deaths of his comrades might have pushed him over the edge, where he no longer liked the idea of having to be sent out on missions, but again, he could've just retired and moved out here. Something wasn't right, although she couldn't put a finger on it, so for now she would just stalk her prey from afar. She watched how he would cast a barrier to assist the man, he covered the roof and began to cast another jutsu, this one wasn't as clear as the previous one as it seemed that he had cast a Yamanaka tech.

She watched how his transformation changed and confirmed that he truly was her target, which meant that her clairvoyance worked magnificently, she was happy that the technique worked as it should and set out to prepare for his end, but was pulled back by his generosity. Am I beginning to doubt myself and this mission? If I go back empty-handed then this will be the only mission I have truly failed and that can't go on my record... Shit... Will this weigh on my ever fleeting consciousness or will I just forget it next week?

She checked her gear as she waited to see if he would pull out any more generous acts, she was now fully invested in his life and would do her best to write all of this down once the time was appropriate. If only it wasn't for a rolling storm.

[Hunt] The Time of My Life

Post by CDF » Wed Nov 29, 2023 7:24 pm

Old patterns and training kicking in, Inozu ran at a speed he hadn't achieved in over two years now. He darted from road to tree to roof back to road, taking the quickest route to the center which he knew well. There was genuine concern and panic within him, as if a family member was in danger, as if a teammate...

He felt himself lose speed and almost felt a physical jab through the heart as he finished the thought. Even remotely considering the friends he had lost took life force right out of him, and he couldn't afford that right now. He visibly shook his head just as he approached what turned out not to be the center of town, but more of its edge on the other side where the river cut through.

Near the bridge on the opposite side from his original position, there was a half dilapetated house with a cluster of people around it trying to dig through the rubble. On the bank of the river there was another cluster doing the human panic chicken swarm thing that humans do. It didnt take long for Inozu to understand what was happening and how he'd solve it.

Performing the handseals as he approached the bridge, he leapt off and poofed in mid-air towards the rubble. His clone continued on to fall in front of the crowd while his original body dropped straight down to land on the water, sprinting on its surface down in the direction some unknown number of people had fallen in the river. His clone would confirm the exact number after saving its group and poofing out of existence.

Inozu was smart, but not a genius. There was a part of his intelligence and planning telling him he didn't have the chakra pool for all that he was doing, and he didn't know how much more damage there would be. The weather wasn't letting up at all and he had already performed multiple jutsu in less than an hour.

His intuition told him too late that he should have had the clone maintain itself and find ways to be helpful, and since he had already created it with another command, it was too late. Mentally kicking himself, he scanned vigerously along the bumpy river as he ran along it.

It was hard to hear and even harder to see in this weather. The downpour of rain and the increased velocity of the river itself combined to make it an impossible task for any normal human. The senses of it alone was a challenge, but he also had to walk on very turbulent water, controlling his chakra carefully.

All of a sudden this had become truly difficult and harrowing and still, he heard and saw nothing. This river was quite fast, however, perhaps they got very far.

Hotaru followed suit, jumping from roof to branch and to the streets just like Inozu, though her stalking was graceful and left no sound, nor did she get spotted as she moved at such a speed that any normal person wouldn't even be able to percieve her, in fact, she moved so fast that even Inozu would barely be able to percieve her. This night had taken an interesting turn, for the longer she followed the man the worse it got for her, she wanted a quick in and out mission were she collected the Yamanaka's head but instead seems to have picked out a mission which questioned her morality.

Her stomach churned as she watched him clone himself and assist the people, when he lept down into the water, she would follow suit, but she would also run up ahead of him, using her insane superior speed to pick up the people from the water and dragged them towards land, she placed down the survivors then checked to see if anyone of them weren't breathing, once the check up was done, she would turn to face Inozu.

She was decked out in her Nighthood outfit and would appear rather menacingly in front of him. "Yamanaka, Inozu, of Konohagakure no Sato, you have been ordered to be executed. Though, due to the actions performed by your hands, you have left me in quite in a pickle. So... I'll let you choose your fate, do you want to have a fair chance of returning to this village and live the rest of your life as a caretaker, or do you want to attempt fate?"

Hotaru moved towards the center of the moving river, the civilians were mostly out due to overexterting themselves so she didn't have to worry much about being spotted and they were so long away from the bridge that not even they could spot them. "You ran away from your duty once, but you can't run away from judgement." Hotaru was kind today, she wanted to give him a chance to pick out what was best for himself, or else she would just blitz past him and then collect his head, for her speed was overwhelmingly faster than his, that much had already been proven.

This goes against all my own set protocols, but this man has proven himself to be different from any other missing ninja. Hotaru watched the man carefully as she still hadn't decided his fate, though waiting any longer would be a massive detriment, for time was money.

[Hunt] The Time of My Life

Post by CDF » Thu Nov 30, 2023 2:13 pm

While the house collapse seemed dire, it wasn't actually that bad. The foundation and earth around the base of the rear of the house closest to the river gave in, causing the house to get almost split in half and the remaining half was still in the process of collapsing onto itself.

The house's occupants were mostly outside, and those that were inside had been part of the group that fell in the water along with the remains of the home. He wouldn't be able to get an actual count until he pulled out the at least one human that was pinned in the light rubble.

He didn't know this family well, but he knew them enough to know there should be 10 people living here, 5 of which he could already see outside, not that outside and inside had much of a difference now. Holding back the terrifying sensation that he was about to uncover corpses, Inozu's clone immediately set to work, flinging rubble like it was paper out of the way.

With a mix of delight and horror, he found and saved one young boy, but there were still 4 bodies missing that werent here or outside. His original needed to know.

Biting his own lip at the thought of having to disperse when there was clearly so much work to be done, the clone cursed his own short sightedness and undid the jutsu keeping it together.

-------

Meanwhile, Inozu's original body had been frantically searching through the abyss. He was extremely focused on his search, but even this righteous tunnel vision didn't prevent him from feeling that there was a presence nearby, something he could only subconsciously detect but not identify. Never ever a good feeling, but not something he had the bandwith to even slightly think about. Saving these people was all he had room to think about.

And then there they were, both his people and the source of his sensation of unease. At first he didn't even see the saved bodies, his focus and vision completely taken over by the assassin in front of him. There couldn't have been a louder alarm bell ringing in his head if there was a weapon at his head. This was unbelievably bad.

Trauma, fear, adrenaline all coursed through his body while risk assesment went full-force. This was a shinobi for sure, dressed in an all-black wardrobe of assasination, knew his full name and origin and moved fast and well enough that he couldn't notice her presence until she chose to let him do so. And if she was here right now, that likely meant she'd been following him for a while. In other words: he was completely outmatched and screwed.

And yet, his panic almost washed away as he noticed the breathing bodies at her feet. Assassin here to kill him or not, at least she had helped his people. He visibly relaxed a little, which was very noticable considering he was almost at full body-wide shaking at the ninja's appearance.

He was an experienced fellow, but he hadn't seen real combat in a long time, and only now was he realizing how traumatized to it he was. Even at his peak he wouldn't have defeated her, today? he may as well roll into a ball.

"I... I don't..." Inozu didn't even know what he was trying to say as the hunter's words reached his brain through what seemed like several layers of dirt by how muffled he was receiving it. He could barely register what she said, as he was quickly realizing this was the end of everything. All his work, all his suffering, all his attempts at redemption were about to end.

And then his clone dematerialized and all of its information came flooding into Inozu's mind, and a new, more focused panic came in.

There was still a body missing, and there was now a woman who would try to stop him from saving it. A boy, specifically, around 14 years old. So what if she were to kill or capture him after? Now there was no question or indecision, Inozu had to do this.

Sighing with a mix of resignation and anticipation, Inozu spoke loud and firmly.
"I'M READY TO DIE, but I can't yet. There's still a boy in these waters drowning, please, let me help you find him first and then you can do whatever you want to me." And perhaps if he manages to get the chance to hit the hunter with a mind control jutsu, he had a way to live AND save these people one last time.

Hotaru chuckled, she wasn't prepared for him to be this afraid, which meant that her stalking skills have grown to the point where it even surprised her, she peered at Inozu and contemplated if she should just cut his head off and be done with it but chose to lisen to his words. This man is truly a hero to the people huh? Hotaru nodded as she continued to listen to the man.

I guess... Hotaru didn't want to think it but she seemingly had made up her mind, this missing nin was special, he had chosen to die in order to save others, he willingly chose not to come along becouse he wanted to save the civilians of this village, which she had to respect. "Fine, lead the way but if you try any funny stuff then you are done."

Hotaru took a more neutral stance to show that she wasn't going to attack him, she would follow him to the location and help out as best as she could, all the while still mentally preparing for if the man chose to betray her, he was a missing nin after all. "Do you know where he was last spotted?" Hotaru would ask as she extended her clairvoyance, much to her chagrin.

The overwhelming storm started to mess with her minds eye as it was hard to stay focused when your mind was being bombarded with information, she didn't close her eyes though as she needed to keep track of Inozu, one couldn't be too certain around these parts after all.

[Hunt] The Time of My Life

Inozu mustered all his self control to stay focused on the boy, but his self preservation was screaming loudly within him. Desperately it tried to think up some way to get out of this situation. He wasn't ready to die, he wasn't ready to be in jail for the rest of his life.

Focus.

Gulping almost audibly even with this thunderous rain, Inozu looked frantically all over the water. "I don't know where to look. It's a young boy, around 14. He should be around where you found them, i don't know why he's not here" His voice was full of panic as he channeled his fear about his own survival into his fear for the lost boy.

He moved in the direction Hotaru was in, walking over the water and continuing to search until he saw a distant tuft of hair amongst some rocks further down. The boy was completely unconscious, floating face-up and stuck amongst some rocks. It was almost a miracle he wasn't dead and stuck in a position where he could breathe.

Not waiting another moment, Inozu sprinted to him, and if allowed, would scoop the boy up and onto the bank where the erst of his family was. Inozu was no medical ninja, but even he knew how to do some basic pumps to get the boy coughing and saving his own lungs.

The voice in his head suddenly went calm.

If he were to be executed, it would have happened already. If he were to run away, he would be executed. Inozu had no choice but to accept that his best option would be to surrender, whatever may come of it.

He smiled a genuine smile as he stood, his body reeking of resignation. Despite it all, he said to himself as he looked at the rescued bodies before him, he had managed to do some good in this village. Maybe one day he could come back and be grateful for the decision he was making now, the way he was grateful he didn't kill himself and instead decided to come here in the first place.

"I'm ready."

Hotaru followed the man and was pretty impressed by his heroics, she knew better than to question someone at a time like this and instead focused on trying to help him find the missing boy, she listened to him speak and would try to run up ahead and see if he had been dragged further down the stream but fortunately he had been saved by some rocks, even crazier was that he was floating with his head upwards.

She watched how Inozu compressed the boys chest and helped him breath, a technique she had never used before and made sure to write it down mentally. Once the boy caughed up the water in his lungs and started breathing she would release a sigh of relief. Even better was that the man had willingly chosen to comply and follow suit without the need for violence.

Hotaru would nod once he spoke, she gently rested her hand on his shoulder as she spoke. "I will put in a good word for you, so that you get released at a faster rate, I'll even swing in that you have done such a good work here on this village that it would benefit both countries to release you back into this village, but due to your clan abilities I suspect that they will do random check ups to see that you are not acting out of order but seeing how well you have behaved, I'm sure that you'll get to live the rest of your life out here in peace. But trust me Inozu, one wrong move and I'll come back for you, okay?"

Once the man agreed she would release his shoulder, for the next couple of hours they would make sure that everyone in the village was safe, once sun rised, the two of them would begin their treck back to Konoha, she would drop him off by one of the checkpoint and pass along the message that she had promised him. After a couple of months in jail the Yamanaka would be released back to the village he once protected to be able to live out the rest of his life as the local hero that he was.

The end.
