Where Home Lies

Post by Kabu » Sun Jan 14, 2024 5:47 pm

Some time had passed since Rika's disappearance and she had fully recovered from her wounds, adjusting to her new life in the process. She had no real complaints but she couldn't say that she was without worries. Who was she really and what kind of things had she done? What would she do if someone came claiming to know her? These questions among others often found themselves at the forefront of her mind.

When that happened she would go out and exercise for a distraction, having found an interest in swordplay. And that was where she found herself on this day, in the dojo nearby the small home she currently shared with Kiyomi and Ayaka. She was practicing her technique under Kiyomi's watchful eye, the woman smiling as she observed her progress. The girl had been a tad clumsy when she first started but was improving at a marvelous rate. She had a long ways to go but so long as she practiced daily she would become a master in no time at all.

"Good work Reina, I'm sure you're tired so let's take a break." Kiyomi spoke while clapping.

Rika Reina sighed as she sheathed her twin swords, taking a moment to stretch afterwards. She had been at this all morning, having woken early from a horrible dream she had already forgotten the details of. She honestly felt a bit guilty about waking the others as a result but nonetheless grateful that Kiyomi had offered to watch over her while she had been working.

With that said, training was over so what now? She wouldn't have long to ponder that particular question as Ayaka came barging into the room, grabbing her by the arm. "We've got an important guest, they're waiting at home!"

Where Home Lies

There was something like a 87% chance he'd find Hizashi Rika here. It had been a 73% chance at the last homestead and a part of his mind was wondering if the percentage wasn't actually 83 and he just added 4% out of annoyance. He disregarded the thought and reviewed, needlessly, all the details he had. Just in this short distance from the walkway to the door was so abysmally long as far as Hito's mind was concerned, it was better spent reviewing data for the millionth cycle.

This was an important mission and that might explain his elevated nerves. His mind was currently scattered around the world, possessed into an assortment of puppets and constructs all with different jobs to move Hito's master plan forward. Almost all of these plans, however, required the use of his old organization the Scribes of the Sand. A crucial first step would be to either coopt the organization or win over the loyalty of its current leader, but unfortunately, that leader is currently missing and nowhere to be found.

That was how the first wave of HitoBots to arrive on the earth had its first detour, resulting in 25% of the wave being redirected to search for the SoS leader. It was also the first time Hito had to send a long distance command like this, and something hadn't felt quite right after it. At first, this HitoBot thought it was just because the plan had changed unexpectedly, but he was beginning to suspect it was something bigger.

Regardless, he had reached the door and it was time to take that 87% chance that he had found the one he needed to take back to Suna so his other bots could resume their paths and the grand plan could continue. Feeling a sigh in his soul but no physical impulse to actually act it out, Hito just apathetically knocked on the door, the wooden knuckles of his puppet body making a sound that didn't fit the visual of his human hand.

Thanks to the wonders of advanced transformation jutsu and fuuinjutsu, upon opening the door, they would see Hito as he currently looks: a disheveled old looking man with leathery sand-damaged skin and wild unkept hair that somehow still carried a mighty air of regality about him. Even the most rural wind country resident would likely recognize the former kazekage, but a random family was not so likely.

Upon encountering somebody, Hito would politely bow, but would mostly for them to speak first.

Where Home Lies

Rika couldn't help but tilt her head as she was dragged along through the home and towards the front door. Could it be that someone was here for her? Logically it made sense that someone from... wherever she had come from would eventually seek her out. For what reason though? Had she done something wrong and they were here to arrest her or worse? Perhaps they were just here to act as an escort for her return? If the latter... did she even want to go back? She couldn't help but feel some apprehension on the mater

In any case they soon reached their destination and the door was opened, revealing a man standing on the other side. Rika tilted her head at the sight, there being something... different yet distinctly familiar about the man. He carried a sort of regal air even despite his unkempt appearance and somehow carried a nostalgic scent, one of sand and heat. She couldn't remember but she could knew even still that this feeling was related to her forgotten past.

Nonetheless she stepped in front of the mother and daughter pair, just in case. Nostalgic as she felt, it was no excuse to let her guard down. There was after all no telling what this man had really come for. He was absolutely here for her, she was sure of it.

"Yes, may I help you?" she spoke, her red eyes staring directly at him. For now she simply had to discern his motives, anything else could come after that was done.

Many things happened by the time Rika spoke her first words to the former Kazekage's construct. Before the door was even fully open and Hito's vision captured the distinctive red hair and skin, he was certain he'd found her. By the time the door was fully swung open, he'd already turned his head to observe the surroundings once more with the added context that she's here. Simultaneously, he attempted to reactivate the connection between him and the rest of the spirit network that possessed him into this construct in the first place. But nothing happened.

When he was first placed into this body, it was a blip in his memory. There was no sensation of transference or a gradient, just one moment he was Hito and the other moment he was Hito in a construct. When he received the first signal through the message to begin searching for the SoS leader, however, there had been a distinctive connection. A sensation of being a pebble in an ocean, as opposed to a pebble in space like he felt now.

Rika's words finished and Hito had to pry his mental functions back to pay attention, having sufficiently subjugated the creeping sensation of annoyance and even potential panic. There was something fundamentally wrong with his connection to the rest of his spirit network, which was not at all planned for or predicted, which meant everything about him was temporarily incompetent and unreliable. Was he even still really Hito if he couldn't connect to sync up to the network anymore?

It took some control to not physically shake his head as he exerted further control on re-anchoring himself to the present. Subprograms in his mind would slowly work on the rest and prepare it for when he had time to delve further, for now he sitll had his original parameters and a target that had been located. But clearly, from her speech, she was not herself either.

Adding to his growing list of concerns, he quickly realized she had some sort of memory issue. Her eyes, the way she held her body, the strength or lackthereof in her voice and the complete lack of familiarity with is famous visage. This was going to be more complicated than anticipated.

[color=#C9B037"Hi! I'm sorry to bother you,"[/color] He started with the goal of disarming, her body language reeked of panic and confusion. Last thing he needed was her feeling more of that. He had to understand the scope of her issue and her situation and then pivot to bringing her home for proper healing. Until those first two points were met, however, he had to tread lightly for everyone's sake. "My name is Hito and I've gotten a bit lost in the area looking for a friend." He made no attempt to disguise his Suna ninja garb and dropped only his first name in hopes it'd help her tie the image to a memory. "I've been roaming out here for the last two days, is there any chance you could spare me some water?" His voice seemed genuine and his ragged appearance would surely come in his favor now.

A very likely and most ideal of these non-ideal scenarios was that she had just been picked up by a good-natured family. If that were the case, this would be the easiest way to get himself in and into a position of fulfilling all his goals with minimum damage to anyone's life while achieving maximum speed for the sake of his other plans. The very thought of the timeline gave the briefest urge to grab the Hizashi by the collar and see if he could still perform space-time jutsu in this disconnected state.

If he were allowed in, Hito would follow Rika's lead very courteously and ask about the other inhabitants of the dwelling.

"Oh of course, please come in." the admittedly confused Rika responded to the request, stepping aside and allowing Hito inside. All signs pointed to him being from somewhere far off, between the clothing and his ragged appearance. "I... unfortunately I can't quite recall my name. In my time here however I have been going by the name of Reina. Kiyomi and Ayaka, my saviors here, gave the name to me. They've been taking very good care of me in my time of need." she introduced herself as Kiyomi walked off into the kitchen for the water.

"So Hito, would you mind telling me about this friend of yours? I may be able to provide some kind of assistance." she spoke as she took a seat at the dining room table, Kiyomi soon returning with a glass of water that was placed on the table as well.

All the while Rika couldn't help but frown, falling into thought as she awaited Hito's response. Why was there something so familiar about that name? She couldn't recognize the man himself in the least but something about the name echoed in the deepest recesses of her mind. Perhaps it was something she had heard on her travels but that seemed unlikely. Perhaps they were from the same area? That meanwhile was almost laughable but at the same time gave her some pause... Why didn't it seem quite as wild or crazy as it should?

She had a feeling that the answer would be coming soon, but would she like it or not? Only time would tell...
