What Suna is like...

Post by NSRP » Tue Sep 18, 2018 3:22 pm

'Sunagakure no Sato' is nestled deep within Wind Country, surrounded by a large earthen wall created long ago from condensed sand and rock to act as both protection from the elements and from invasion. The wall itself looks like it places Sunagakure into a kind of depressed quarry that was once the valley they settled in. The deepest level of the quarry houses the village proper with two elevated levels surrounding it that are large enough to fit entire armies if need be, giving Suna staging areas for defensive measures in the event of attack, it is also said that these two elevated tiers can be manipulated to close over the village like a shell using Ninjutsu. Above the elevated tiers of the village rests the giant earthen wall with one notable entrance, a single wide path carved through the stone and down through the tiers leading to the village, the entrance itself is carved to look like massive steps, whether symbolic or to create some kind of defense is only known to the village itself. The valley itself resembles a populated oasis with structures running through it and visible water sources surrounded by clusters of greenery and palm trees. while grass is present, the valley is not abundant with natural vegetation to feed the local populace.
SocietyShow
Suna has a great relationship with it’s citizens. The citizens are treated well with benefits ranging from welfare to free healthcare, to being given government jobs to feed their families. In return, the citizens feel a deep love and respect for their village. This is done with one part propaganda, one part religious belief, and various other factors. Mostly due to Suna's old 'isolationist' view where they sought to keep themselves separate from the rest of the world.

While viewing themselves as a major and important village, sometimes as the most important, with the end of the Cold War, Suna has decided that they should adopt a more conservative approach to the world but they still stay relatively more or less to themselves, engaging in their massive yearly trade with Konoha as usual. While not willingly letting outsiders come and go, they've allowed more leeway with vacation time for their shinobi but they've yet to allow outsiders to enter the shinobi academy.

Engaging in additional trade with Wind Country in an attempt to strive for even better relations than they already have with its government, they seek to make use of their advanced medical knowledge to further the villages capabilities of caring for it's citizens by attempting a new venue of income through the use of apothecaries. However Suna is also using this as a way to have their shinobi travel Wind Country incognito to better watch for threats.

Ever vigilant, the people of Suna realize and accept that at times they must forgo civil rights for the greater good as Suna watches its people constantly. Should the government be involved, things like privacy become a moot factor in ones daily life if it means that Sunagakure will not come to harm. By keeping people honest and providing a surprisingly decent quality of living despite their desert environment, Suna thrives with a happy society. A happy society that stems from a fairly liberal government that is tolerant of every creed, gender, and sexual orientation. With low oppression from the government, they grant a great deal of freedom to those that reside within Suna's walls, but they are always watchful as privacy is a luxury that can not be afforded when it comes to the security of Sunagakure and everyone within its walls.

With their recent change in views on being isolationists, several merchant families have started to turn their local trade into companies. This was done to create jobs for citizens without them, give shinobi a cover for traveling the country or entering/exiting Wind Country. These families have become the most Prominent families within Sunagakure and have formed a group recognized by the Council as the Coalition of Merchants or the CoM.
The Coalition of MerchantsShow
Comprised of the four most family-controlled financial cliques, or zaibatsus, within Sunagakure, these prominent families manage and maintain a large role in producing income for the village as well as maintaining employment for non-shinobi residents that seek to put food on their families table. Always seeking to further the village's endeavors and fill their coffers, the Coalition of Merchants pioneers new ways to provide income for Sunagakure. The Coalition's activities are often monitored by a member of the village Council.
Kashimaste Zaibatsu:
A wealthy Family that became quite prominent within Wind Country as their third largest Banking House. Due to this success, they are viewed as one of the richest families within Sunagakure. Handling large sums of money for the village as well as helping to handle village expenses, such as ensuring that shinobi are paid for their hard work within the village. They also handle money for companies and nobles within Wind Country as well.
Watari Zaibatsu:
A distinguished family of traders and couriers, the Watari family maintains a lot of shipping within Wind Country and Sunagakure, often shifting large amounts of cargo across the desert. Usually responsible for shipping non-parishable and perishable goods to major cities within Wind Country and Sunagakure.
Suzumari Zaibatsu:
The oldest of the four families, the Suzumari family were blacksmiths, carpenters, and armor smiths that joined Sunagakure soon after it's formation. Today they help educate and pass on their knowledge through practical application and tutoring with the smiths of Sunagakure. They often produce many of tools that shinobi use while also producing weapons and equipment for Wind Country as well.
Ansatsuri Zaibatsu:
International traders, the Ansatsuri family is often seen handling all imports and exports into Sunagakure from outside of Wind Country. They also oversee the yearly trade between Konoha and Sunagakure, producing transport and security for the caravans that handle the trade. While their normal dispatches are small for the most part, they do so ensure ease of transport and security for the product being moved.
CriminalsShow
Those that offend the village's beliefs, standards, and laws to a degree that they would be labeled criminals are the kinds of people that are either imprisoned in Sunagakure's prison, 'The Pit', or they're Missing Ninja that are sought down and hunted by Sunagakure Shinobi. Due to their status within the village, anyone deemed a major criminal is often shunned and stricken from family records of any kind to remove any association with them. Most smaller offenses often spend some time in The Pit and can be re-evaluated to return to shinobi life if they were once shinobi. Repeat offenders or major infractions of the law often warrant long periods spent underground. Major criminals that are taken alive are often locked in the deepest chambers of The Pit and serve life sentences.

Then there is the special brand of criminal, those that defy Sunagakure to the degree it clashes with their religious beliefs, these people are labeled Heretics. Given the people of Sunagakure tend to favor their own branch of Yuumagure, they view the body as a temple. A temple that should not be willing defiled in such great lengths for personal gain. Heretics are often those that willingly modify their otherwise normal body(such as chopping off an arm to replace it with a puppet one, altering their genetics to craft a weapon, etc) or those that engage in sedition to incite rebellion. It is because of this broad definition that Missing Ninja are often viewed as heretics to some degree, by the masses, yet are not deemed such officially. Primarily they are viewed as traitors and naysayers to Sunagakure that should be captured, if possible, and placed on trial. However the more violent and aggressive the Heretic, the more cause to have them brought in dead, rather than alive.
Notable LocationsShow
Shinobi AcademyShow
The large Shinobi Academy that was created some time ago after the Council decide to rid themselves of having 4 different schools. Sunagakure funneled all their resources into a singular campus that houses everything from basic training for academy students to advanced education for full fledged shinobi expanding their skill sets. Having multiple departments within the school dedicated to different subjects, Sunagakure has found it simpler in the long run to maintain one training facility in lieu of four, they ensured that the most qualified teachers were all under the same roof and that the students were all rubbing shoulders to better learn from each other and build their capabilities when cooperating with others.
HospitalShow
Suna has a massive hospital situated near the center of the village so anyone can get to it relatively easily. With a steady supply of medical herbs from the greens houses, Sunagakure has been able to train and produce some of the more skilled medical ninja in the world. While medicine and health care are one of Suna's strong points, most people that train in the art of puppetry tend to train at the hospital in herbology to obtain a better grasp on the creation of poisons and antidotes. The hospital itself being founded by the first puppeteer in Sunagakure, Kashika Sen'iki, who dedicated his life to Iijutsu and originally developed puppetry as a way for the wounded to manipulate their body in battle despite grievous wounds.
The PitShow
While the Naegi House maintains a large underground space to grow and store crops, this space is constructed like a giant ring rather than just a big open space. This is done because of what lies beneath the center of the village, The Pit. Any and all criminal elements that are caught breaking the law or missing ninja being returned to the village are brought to The Pit.

The Pit itself is construct of dense, massive stones and if it were above ground it would resemble massive cylinder. Comprised of four sections(Guard Bunk House, Minimum Security, Medium Security, Maximum Security), The Pit connects to the bottom of a secured docking area in Sunagakure and can be lowered deeper underground and separate it from the village to keep prisoners isolated. This means The Pit is often buried deep underground with special air ducts that go up to various parts of the village's structures to keep them from being identified easily.
GreenhousesShow
One notable thing about the village is that should one gaze across the rooftops, they will see countless greenhouses present. These green houses act as gardens for both food and medicine, ensuring that Suna has the capability to provide food for its inhabitants. These greenhouses are cared for and tended to by citizens and shinobi alike, but the primary care givers for these places are the Naegi clan due to their unique gift with plants.
Village GateShow
The main entry way into the village, and probably the only way without being able to fly or scale the vertical plateau like wall around the village. This entry way into Suna is like a long stretch of road from the large steps that mark the Main Gate, it travels down to the village proper, with a perforated layer of doton to block most of the harsh sun and allow airflow while large stretches of cloth are suspended a between the path and the holes in the ceiling to prevent any harsh light, rain, other other elements from dropping onto a traveler's head.
Water ReservoirShow
While Sunagakure was founded within an Oasis valley, there was once a risk of them facing a water shortage. After discovering caverns below the village, it was discovered the Oasis of Sunagakure was connected directly to a large underground wellspring where many underground rivers intersected. The water shortage was partly cause when the sands and earthen walls of Suna were compressed down by the 2nd Kazekage to create the main village walls. After some reworking, the water problem became moot although guards are now posted in the Reservoir to protect it.
Kage MonumentShow
Since the rise of the 2nd Kazekage, a Monument has been crafted in remembrance of Kage that came before. Upon the death or retirement of a previous Kage, a 20ft high statue of them is crafted and given a home along the base of the Kage building, the statue is usually the previous Kage in some kind of sitting position and appearing as if their back is holding up the building behind them.
Training GroundsShow
Amidst the walls of Sunagakure's valley, there are large caverns that have been formed by Sand, Doton, and Suiton users. These large caverns are designed to provide shinobi and students places to train their techniques without being in the middle of the village when they make something explode. Should S rank jutsu need to be trained, a specialized plateau has been constructed nearly half a mile outside the village for shinobi seeking to create something that devastating. In times of war or invasion, these training grounds can be converted to shelters or ambush points to be used against enemies.
Clan/HousesShow
Within Sunagakure, the clans are often a bit of an oddity. Despite their bodies having mutated to form the bloodlines they use today, they aren't seen as heretics due in part to them naturally developing this alteration to their physical form. Treated with the same respect and worth as any other person within the village, clan members often find discrimination to be practically non-existent(Save for the very narrow minded). Proving themselves capable of pulling their own weight and contributing to society, the clans of Sunagakure prove to capable of unique feats that help defend the village or contribute to it's growth.
Clan/House Compounds:
Henrin Clan:
The Henrin compound is relatively small and crammed together. The clan seems to have absorbed a section of the town, constantly trying to buy houses from people to fit their rapid growth in the past 30 years, due to their new-clan-status.
Hizashi Clan:
By far the biggest compound of any clan or family. Almost all of the houses are tanned red/black/orange (the clan colors) and it is easily noticeable whenever you enter. It is almost double the size of any of the other compounds and can be seen from miles up from the village, due to the size. It has its own training centers, temples(most temples are actually Hizashi-owned), and so on. They also have a Hizashi-only Academy, which is something none of the other clans have.
Kouseki Clan:
The Kouseki compound is near the 'industrial' part of town, where more metalworking, blacksmithing, fabric production and similar manufacturing occurs, which they take part of and help out with. Most of the houses are either completely made out of a crystalline structure, for their own ease of use, or have crystal components. It's pretty obvious whenever you're near the Kouseki compound.
Naegi House:
The Naegi clan exists within a small compound that resides near the center of Sunagakure. From this key position, they can send members out to any part of the village to tend the green houses as needed, allowing for centralized deployment.
MilitaryShow
In terms of the shinobi lifestyle, enlistment and service is volunteer-based however there is no shortage of willing people due to the fact that serving the village is often seen as a great honor to ones family, ancestors, and their Kazekage. Upon signing the contract for service, a person will be duty bound to serve the village for 3 years, at the end of these 3 years they can choose to sign up for an additional period of service. Any breach of contract will result in punishment, usually a period of incarceration in Suna's prison that is located underground. Every 3 months of their contract, shinobi are to take a mandatory psychological evaluation to ensure their mental health and ability to perform their duties. Should they fail this evaluation, their contract will be null and void.

In the course of their duties, shinobi of Sunagakure build an allotment of vacation time each year. Capable of building up to 2 weeks, this vacation must be cleared through the Council and they have to detail where they're going, what they plan to do, and so on otherwise their request will be denied. As for training, shinobi of Sunagakure are given unlimited days, but it has to be proven necessary to leave the village to do said training. Genin will have to stay in the village in regards to training with their vacations limited to Wind Country, Chuunin must stay in the country for both(unless leaving the country is 100% necessary), Special Jounin and Jounin can leave the country for either.

Upon entering the shinobi academy, students are evaluated, pre-screened, and assigned their basic training regiment. It is during this time that students are judged on their skills and assigned a particular field that the village thinks suits them best. Should the student state they wish to explore a new field, the village will allow it but highly recommends they pursue the path given to them by the village as it best suits their strengths.

During times of war or in the case of an emergency, Suna will mobilize its shinobi after dividing them into four Battalions. These Battalions are each led by either a Bannin or the Kazekage himself. Each Battalion will fulfill a certain aspect or role(Short range combat, Long range combat, Home guard, etc) and the leader of these Battalions will conduct their shinobi accordingly. Within each Battalion is 5 Companies that further excel in different areas and are led either by an Eidolon or seasoned Jounin.

Within each Company are 4 platoons which are led by either Jounin or seasoned Special Jounin that further breakdown into specialist groups or diverse assault teams. Within each Platoon there are a total of 5 Squads. Each Squad is led by a Special Jounin or Chuunin, being the smallest group set on the chain of command. Orders that are issued by the Battalion leader can be funneled down through the chain of command to be handled by the Company, Platoon, or Squad leaders as needed to complete objectives.

In normal times of peace and non-emergency conditions, the largest group that is usually deployed is a Platoon but this is rare. Usually being a high ranking mission or a mission of great importance(protecting the Daimyo, taking down S rank Missing Ninja, escorting the Kazekage, etc), a Platoon's deployment is often treated as a 'heavy' dispatch by the village in peaceful time. Primarily a Squad or simple teams of two or three ninja will be deployed for missions in order to tackle their objective.

Command Level Structure: Kazekage, Bannin
Senior Level Officers: Eidolon, Jounin
Junior Level Officers: Special Jounin, seasoned Chuunin
Enlisted Level Shinobi: Chuunin, Genin
Military Units
NameMakeupDescription
Student Team1 Jounin or Special Jounin, 1 or 2 GeninUpon graduation from the Academy, Genin are usually placed in this type of team. Paired with a Jounin or Special Jounin, they will be further educated along their path to being a shinobi of Sunagakure. Likewise, the Senpai(Jounin or Special Jounin) can opt to take on an additional Kouhai(Genin) if they so desire or if the village requests it of them. Primarily this type of team is meant to provide a more experienced shinobi through the Senpai/Kouhai relationship.
Junior Team2-4 GeninMainly filled with Genin, these teams are often used by Genin wishing to further their team building skills, tackle tougher missions, or accomplish common goals they might have. While these teams are usually maintained by the Genin, the village monitors them or even assigns a Chuunin to aid in their team building skills. These teams are often seen as the precursor to the squads that the Genin could be placed into upon reaching Chuunin or in emergency conditions.
Assault Squad1 Jounin, Special Jounin. or Chuunin Leader, 1 Support or Medic shinobi, 3 Shinobi of varied ranks and skill setsThe bread and butter of Sunagakure's military forces, the assault squad is often lead by a Special Jounin or a seasoned Chuunin. Primarily focused upon combat, these squads usually carry a slight diversity in skill sets or slight similarity in skill sets. This is done to help optimize what the Squad can do as part of a larger unit or on its own. Comprised of 5 shinobi, this squad type will normally have a supportive or medical oriented ninja backing them up as this multipurpose unit carries out their objectives.
Specialty Squad1 Jounin, Special Jounin. or Chuunin Leader, 4 Shinobi with indentical skill setsUnlike the Assault squad which had slightly different/similar skill sets, Specialty Squads are usually comprised of shinobi with almost identical skill sets. Working in tandem, these shinobi would function as a whole in times of war. Their functions range from defense specialists in charge of protecting entire battalions and strategic locations to long range assault teams that serve as artillery to deal massive amounts of damage from afar. These units were often drafted on a case by case basis to fit whatever scenario that Sunagakure was facing.
Intelligence Squad1 Jounin, Special Jounin. or Chuunin Leader, Varied make up of Medics, Sensors, Fuuin users, and possibly a protector shinobiA squad of 5 shinobi tasked with information gathering and logistical support. Usually containing a Sensor, Fuuinjutsu expert, and a Medical Ninja at the least, these shinobi could assess, gather, and bring back various types of information ranging from troop movements through their Sensor, information encryption through their Fuuinjutsu expert, or information regarding the enemies body modifications, bloodlines, or anatomical abnormalities through their Medical Ninja. While not combat oriented, this squad is still capable of engaging the enemy of need be to accomplish their mission.
AdministrationShow
The only combined voice that even comes close to holding sway over the villages actions like the Kazekage does, the Council of Sunagakure is a group of individuals with solid heads on their shoulders and a strong devotion to their people. Council members are usually comprised of elected or proven individuals that have done their village a great service or worked hard to ensure that the people of Suna prosper. Comprised of eight people, three of them being shinobi while the other five are civilians, these individuals are often making headway in the affairs of the village, be it monitoring trade, handing out missions, evaluating shinobi for rank advancement, or even sitting in judgment of criminals; the Council are more often than naught the ones that set the wheels in motion, often working with the Kazekage to ensure everything is done accordingly through their leader. Among all the civilian members, one(no more than two) of them acts as a liaison to the Daimyo of Wind Country.

Yet it seems like despite Suna's new outlook on things, the current members of the Council have been the biggest resistance to change within the village. There are some noted and monitored whispers of them being a little corrupt, but these allegations have yet to be verified, let alone leveled against a Council member.

Cultural and Historical AspectsShow
Sunagakure was formed around 800 years prior to the modern era. Founded by the man that led nomads and travelers alike that searched for a home, the first Kazekage eventually led his followers into a valley oasis that was rich in water and capable of sustaining their lives. Deciding that this paradise was a sign from The Sun and Her Light, the people settled, immediately taking to finding ways to defend the valley and training in the shinobi arts under the first Kazekage.

Throughout the years, Sunagakure has had many things happen to spurn it onward and look to newer heights, as such they often celebrate a series of holidays, special dates, or people that are celebrated throughout the village.

Sherpards Day: A day of celebration in the late Autumn season, the people of Suna celebrate the founding the village by the original Kazekage and often spend the day relaxing as if to relive the joyous moment when hundreds of people felt at ease upon their arrival in Suna's Valley. Most business will remain closed on this day and only the defensive teams are called to duty during that time. Recently it has become a rising tradition to pay a small tribute or burn inscense at the Shodaime Kazekage's monument out of respect.

Sorrow's Day: A day of sullen silence and lament for the passing of the Kazekage that had been dubbed the Sun's Sorrow. Every day, on the anniversary of the 8th kazekage's death, people will often adorn a prayer bead necklace like the Kazekage used to wear. As night falls, the people of Sunagakure will gather in the streets for a candlelight vigil in remembrance for the 8th Kazekage and his death in the line of duty as well as his death signalling the release of the Soul Genma for a time back into the world.

Wheel of Fire: A celebration that takes place after the passing of the Winter Solstice. The people of Suna will often build bonfires that dot the main avenues of the village and are lit the day after the Solstice. Within the village there is also a large stage erected and bouts of physical strength are held in the name of friendly competition. The winner is often granted a prize of some kind as well as temporary honors within the village.

Golden Week: A week long holiday in Suna that presents a time for people to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. Like a jazz funeral, it starts with a slow yet somber tone as families clean personal shrines, burn incense at these shrines, and often send up prayers to lost loved ones or family ancestors. On the first two days, members of Sunagakure will build special paper lanterns capable of being sent into the air before a large ceremony is held at the end of the second day where all these lanterns are released at dusk, carrying wishes or prayers up into the night sky. It is common during the first two nights to make some small offering to ones ancestors to ask for luck in the coming year.

On the third day, the people of Sunagakure will often hold a large gathering of some kind with friends or family and celebrate with those closest to them. Usually these gatherings involve a large meal to be shared with everyone before they exchange good luck charms or gifts. By the time the sun has set on the third day, the tone of the village changes as paper lanterns light the streets at night and special jutsu are launched into the sky that create vibrant displays akin to dazzling flowers on the black back drop of the night sky. Music will play and alcohol will be permitted at a single establishment in Suna(the distribution is monitored closely by Suna officials, and the minimum drinking age is still 18), giving Suna a more festive atmosphere as the holiday comes to it's halfway point.

From the four day to the seventh, and last day, Suna engages in a large festival of sorts that is often used to celebrate the lives of the lost or to celebrate life in general with those closest to them. Street performances are held, music plays through all the village, and worries of the outside world beyond Suna's walls are forgotten for one brief moment in the year as everyone revels in their life and the lives of those around them.
Figures of NoteShow
There have been a number of people within the history of Sunagakure that have had an influence upon the village in one way or another, be it a good or bad mark on history.
  • Tsukama Otojiro: The First Kazekage, he was Sunagakure's first jinchuuriki and was noted as "The Sun's Shepard" by the village over 800 years ago. He not only united the nomads and desert folk that made the founding members of the village, but he was also what sparked Sunagakure's Heliocentric worship that exists today. He was also responsible for bringing the Naegi to Sunagakure in it's most dire early days. 25 years after the village was founded, Otojiro led his people into the war between Iwagakure and Konoha, taking part in the conflicted that ended a year later.
  • Sazama Tokuhei: The Second Kazekage, he was only noted as being called "The Sun's Architect" by the village. A veritable master of Doton, he felt that Suna was too vunerable still, even with a peace treaty in place to try and prevent future wars. Deciding to bolster the village's defenses, he shaped the simple valley Suna called home into the defensible place it is today. Sadly his desire to sculpt the valley into a frotress inadvertantly led to a water shortage crisis when he accidently cut off access to Suna's under ground water reservoir. Near the end of his reign(and his life given his age), he was able to discover the problem after the discovery of a natural underground cavern system below the village and helped restore access to the reservoir. However during the time between his death and the Third's rise, an unexplained illness began to spread through the village.
  • Naegi Yume: The Third Kazekage, apart from being the first female Kage of Suna, she was called "The Sun's Pancea". She used her abilities as a Naegi to cultivate and remedy a disease that had started to spread through the village. It was because of her clan abilities with plants that she not only saved lives by cultivating medicinal herbs, but implemented a plan to increase Suna's food production through the use of green houses. This plan continues on today and helps to suppliment Suna's food reserves and allows them to grow medicinal plants easily as well. Near the end of her days as Kage, Yume was able to provide a stable, steady source of food for her people.
  • Okita Meiji: The Fourth Kazekage, he was viewed as a powerful Fuuton user in his days as a shinobi rising through the ranks. Often toying with new concepts and experimenting with Elemental Ninjutsu, he came to create Sunagakure's Super Release; Kuuton. As he developed this new and powerful Elemental Ninjutsu, he began teaching it to all that were able and willing to learn. Achieving the rank of Kage for his services and his ability to strengthen Sunagakure's shinobi, the village historians noted him to be "The Sun's Presence" due to his ability to manipulate vectors seemingly at will. It was only later that elders of the village revealed he had learned the art of kinesis with Kuuton.
  • Hizashi Hazanshu: The Fifth Kazekage, he was the first Hizashi to achieve the rank of Kazekage and was renowned for manifesting a doujutsu within himself that allowed thermal vision. He was noted by the village historians to be "The Sun's Warmth" and was known for his creation of the village's original four academies. He focused less on the outside world and more about cultivating the best shinobi he could from the people of Suna in an attempt to find a way to increase their productivity in order to make the village thrive. He was also the founder of Aresaki Style, a ninkenjutsu style that utilized fire and swords that eventually found it's way out into the rest of the world.
  • Yaozu Sidao: The Sixth Kazekage, he was often referred to as "The Sun's Will" by historians in the village. He possessed a keen mind and was often skilled in political games, enough so that the Fifth Kazekage asked him to attend the Daimyo's court and act as the liaison for the village. It was here that he meet others like himself, namely the Daimyo's generals and tacticians. Upon his return to the village, Sidao made several proposals to the village that made Suna's shinobi forces more organized. It was through his words and mental prowess that he ascended to Kage status, shaping the military units that the village uses to this day, including their volunteer-based contracts.
  • Shuudoshi Osen: The Seven Kazekage, she was called Suna's Dove by many of the villagers and noted as "The Sun's Grace" by the village historians. While she was proud of her village and all it's capabilities, she set herself out to attempt and build some link to the outside world, finding it would be difficult for Suna to survive with their growing numbers without having an ally or trading partner in the world. It was through her endeavors that Sunagakure and Konoha became allies, creating a mutual relationship between their villages that has since seen ups and downs, but continues to hold together.
  • Shibata Yosuke: The Eigth Kazekage, he was often noted to be "The Sun's Sorrow" by the village. What he was labeled as be is lost to most, and many would not speak on his previous name for he was the second jinchuuriki to achieve Kage status. It was during his later years, when he was an old man that he became engaged in combat with a Missing Ninja of equal caliber. The battle was said to have raged for two days straight before Yosuke killed his adversary and was so weakened by the battle that he did not see the S Rank Missing Ninja's pupils made their appearance. It was in this moment the Kage was bound and his seal that held the Genma at bay was sabotaged, letting the Soul Genma escaped into the wild shortly after it massacred those that freed it.
  • Aorime Hideaki: The Ninth Kazekage, he was the Mirage of the Hidden Sand and is noted as "The Sun's Wind" by the village. He was born with a doujutsu that allowed him to see visual changes in wind current and speed. Because of this ability, he often experienced moments of mania after prolonged use of his doujutsu and cases of insomnia. However because of his ability he became a Fuuton user without equal and was capable of manipulating the wind to counter attack opponents and even send attacks back at them. Often seen riding into battle on a disk of wind or when a situation demanded immediate response, Hideaki was like a blur when charging from one place to another. However given his bouts of mania and eventual spiral into madness, he maintained the isolationist policies set forth by the Council after Shibata Yosuke's death, especially given the lack of the Soul Genma's presence in the village and the possibilty of the Cold War within the world turning violent if an non-allied power sought to invade Sunagakure during that time.
  • Ouji Hito: The Tenth Kazekage, he was called Suna's Divine Protector and is noted as "The Sun's Vigilance" by the village. During his rise to power, Hito helped enlist the aid of clans and specialists to create defenses for the village to help improve it's ability to ward off invasion. Comissioning the Hizashi to create a Mirage technique to hide the village, sensor teams to mask the village from outsiders, and Sand Style users to create a massive antlion style trap to bury would be invaders. He also comissioned a sensor array throughout the village to help monitor criminal activity as well. The Final achievement that helped bring him into the Kage title was the moment he recaptured the Soul Genma and had it sealed within Setsuya Inka, a Sunagakure shinobi.
  • Kashika Sen'iki: The first puppet user, he devised the use of chakra strings to try and allow shinobi to continue fighting after their body had failed them, but wound up using it to manipulate puppets after entertaining his new born daughter by animating her stuffed animal. This brought a revelation to him and he sought out carpenters and weapon smiths throughout the village to create a new kind of weapon. This epiphany led to modern puppetry combat in due time.
  • Miyasato Kunimichi: Before his rise to infamy in the ranks of Sunagakure, Kunimichi was a stalwart sentry that was a member of the platoon that guarded Suna's main entrance. A skilled user of Doton and Fuuton, he gazed out upon the desert around the village constantly and in time wondered why shinobi hadn't attempted to gain control over the vast sands around them. Spending the next five years of his life developing Sand Style, Kunimichi was the fore bearer of many shinobi that utilize this art in Suna. By the time he'd reached his deathbed, he had mastered Sand Style to the point that he could manipulate it with kinesis.
  • Henrin Shisui: Progenitor of the Henrin Clan, he was the man that spawned a doujutsu that could retain knowledge with ease. Near the end of his life, he desperately fought to find a way to preserve that knowledge for future generations and in time he did so through the Clan's Daruma techniques. His Daruma resides within the clan's ancestral home.
  • Habimori Manza: The Great Heretic, he was an S Rank Missing Ninja who managed to defeat a Kazekage and set about the events that released a Genma back into the wild. He's used as a cautionary tale to those seeking power as Manza often sought to create impurities in his body and corrupt his form through the use of Body Mods. He often sought out ways to create forbidden techniques, but he was also noted to have gone psychotically insane shortly after leaving the village.

The Heat of Yuumagure
X-Ranked Jutsu
With intent on weaponizing the desert around them, Sunagakure has found a way to use the heat to their advantage. With the help from the Hizashi clan, a blanket of heat surrounds the village for two miles. This roiling mass gives off the the mirage affect around Sunagakure, shifting its image and distorting it to almost make it disappear. Anyone within the heat wave has their Endurance and Strength reduced by 5. Those who have spent more than a week within Sunagakure will adjust to the heat better than others. Periods longer than a week not within Sunagakure will reset this requirement.

Wall of Brilliance
X-Ranked Jutsu
Thanks to the efforts of the Kouseki clan, Sunagakure is constantly ready for a long siege scenario. The outer walls of Sunagakure contain a small smattering of Kouseki gems. Upon activation, they sprout up into a barrier around the walls, covering them in a layer of brilliant hexagonal crystals that function exactly like Shouton jutsu, allowing them to absorb artillery style jutsu and even activate to fire back with precise shards of sharpened crystals. These walls can absorb jutsu up to 50 strength before the hexagonal section of it will break off and can fire off pinpoints crystal shards at 50 Speed and 50 Strength, can travel up to 300 meters and are roughly 80 meters in width, roughly 20 meters long.
