In the second floor of the massive Suna general hospital, space and time seemed to fluctuated now without rhythm or reason for it to do so before it twisted in upon itself before splitting apart revealing a portal that was opening up. Of course this alarmed all the shinobi and civilians who were currently busy with their daily working tasks within the busy medical facility. Some froze unsure what to do, where they being invaded or were they under the attack of foreign shinobi or spirits? Others ran for cover while some quickly moved to notify the shinobi on security detail that were scattered through the various wings and floors of the hospital. Everyone seemed to brace for what ever or whomever was about to step through the portal into their village, the village sensory unit had no doubt picked up on this flux in space-time and would quickly be routing a scouting party to determine the origins of this portal.

After a few moments of stillness a slender looking figure wearing a white robe splashed in crimson blood stains stepped through, his arm under the shoulder of his friend and comrade. The scholarly looking man was rather pale in the face from expending so much chakra in the breaking of the slave seal placed upon the crimson furred hound, his quad amputee whom had his arms replaced with puppet parts was not in any better circumstances. Their trip to explore the wall that was meant to keep others out of the Juu no Kuni and what they discovered there was beyond both of their imagination and it had almost cost the smaller man whom was supported by the slender framed Zao his life in the process. If it hadn't been for all the medical training the jounin had done after the losses Norio and himself had suffered while trapped in the spirit realms than it was quite possible that his friend would have fallen to the same fate as those three chuunin did.

"Ah, we're back my friend..." A half smile managed to form on the scholarly looking man's thin lips as he gaze around seeing the others who were froze in fear or fleeing in panic. Perhaps it was not the most subtle means of returning to the village but it was for the best and he would most likely have to answer to the council for it later, but both of the men could use some medical attention and this was the safest place for that. No one, or at least very few, were able to match up to the level of medical knowledge as those medical-nin within the Sand village, something the entire village prided upon. Shaking his head lightly the bright blue eyed man who only had his eye lids half open at this point turned his gaze onto his comrade in arms, giving him a nod of his head before feeling his body give out and himself collapsing to a knee. Finally the individuals around the two men who had appeared through the portal were able to recognize the white haired man as he had been working at the hospital for several months now and both of the men proudly displayed their Suna head bands.

The tension in the hallway dropped considerably as the medical shinobi and nurses rushed over to help the two men now, Zao was a bit dizzy and finally knowing that Li and himself were completely safe for the time being allowed for himself to relax. Things soon went black as his mind gave into the exhaustion and he literally fell asleep into the arms of a nurse. Both men were taken in for thorough examinations, the younger man with the new puppet limbs more so than Zao due to the new additions. Their would be many questions coming for the two men in the future but for now the doctors and nurses did what they do and took care of their patients and soon after the evaluations were completed the two were placed in the same room to recover. During his time of being unconscious and sleeping the white haired shinobi dreamed about the mysterious spirit whom they'd crossed paths against within the labyrinth...the spirit had the power of a genma but how was that possible?

He was trying to wrap his brain around the fact that this spirit was so powerful and so dangerous, but was still bound under the word of a master who hadn't been on this earth or realm in perhaps centuries. What kind of person or creature was that and the slave seal that he broke was so complex that it made his head hurt as he tried to remember the fuuin markings within its formula. His eyelids fluttered open finally as the daylight of a new day was just breaking through the window in the room this morning, his brilliant blue eyes shifted over to the window but his body was a bit sluggish in response due to the over usage of his chakra. It would take a couple days of resting before he could regain his full strength again. Using his slender hands the soft looking hands slowly grasped the bed rails and he pulled himself slowly up into a sitting position so that he could look around the room. He had been worried about his friend and he was looking to see if they had been placed in the same recovery room together...

While he had been relatively fine before the transport through the portal, the pressure of going through the portal had actually caused damage to the limbs that Zao had created for him. While he was still able to walk it was by no means easy and was causing him considerable pain. As they appeared in the hospital Xiao Li quickly took note of where they were and of his friend's condition before yelling at the people gawking at them. "Do not just stand there! He is collapsing from overexerting his chakra! Get a damn move on it already!" Xiao Li did his best to support Zao as he began to fall to his knees, but the man's weight, combined with the damage that had been caused by the transport to the hospital, forced Li down to his knees with Zao. As soon as a nurse ran forward Xiao Li helped his friend into her arms before he would allow two male nurses to help him. "I need a wheelchair. I can walk, but just barely. Also, I will need someone to run to my workshop and get my puppetry tools so that I can repair my limbs unless the hospital has someone here that can do it for me. If not for Zao giving me these prosthetics in the middle of a war zone I'd be dead right now." Xiao Li spoke in a firm, commanding voice as was expected of someone of his Jounin rank, but before the two nurses could follow his orders a surgeon arrived on the scene and stopped them.

"I apologize sir, but I have to take you into surgery and verify that lord Zao has done everything correctly. He is an amazing man and a medical professional in his own right, however, as you said it was a war zone. He may have been unable to perform the operation perfectly and to prevent any mishaps in the future we need to evaluate his work." Although the surgeon spoke with a gentle tone, his words brooked no room for an argument and so Xiao Li merely nodded as he was wheeled away. He was quickly put under with the assistance of a medicinal liquid and when he woke he was informed that not only had his arms and legs been repaired, but due to the extent of the damage his spinal cord and his ribs were replaced with prosthetics as well. After he was debriefed on his surgery, Xiao Li was taken to the same room that Zao had been in so that he could recoup as well as give a full report on what had happened. Xiao Li had just been wheeled into the room from the cafeteria when Zao had shown signs of waking. "How you feeling?"

As the slender hands of the middle aged man tightly grasped the bed rail helping him set up the bright blue eyes that still held a somewhat tired or exhausted look within them swept the room, zeroing in on the voice of his good friend who was just getting wheeled in the door in his wheel chair. A quiet sigh of relief slipped through the man's thin lips now as a slight smile was formed as the corners of that same set of lips tilted upwards ever so gently. "I'm alright." As he spoke the man's body ached from the over exertion of his chakra as his muscles from his feet up to his neck felt tight as he began rolling his neck and shoulders trying to loosen them up a bit now. While the thin framed man attempted to work the kinks out of his upper body he spoke back to his friend now. "And how are you, Li?"

Though he wasn't sure what had happened, just from his experience in the hospital and as a practicing medical professional he was able to tell that his friend appeared to have just gotten out of perhaps surgery. This wouldn't be of much of a surprise considering the timeline and environment in which he had been forced to perform that emergency surgery in order to just save his friend's life at that point in time. One didn't have time to truly consider the normally well though out and precise techniques and tactics used when working with such vital parts of the body, while it was the best he could do at the time given the circumstances he knew that it was very far from an amazing job. Just the unsanitary circumstances of the surgery would have been enough to cause any doctor to wince and he could only guess that Li would be placed on a regiment of medication involving pain killers, anti-inflammatory, and antibodies for at least a few weeks. He also couldn't help but wonder if the surgeon had to do any additional modifications with all the damage the younger jounin had suffered during their spiritual encounters.

The nurse who had came in behind the one pushing Li in the wheel chair moved to the far side of the best as if not to intrude on the pair of men, moving to take his vitals as well as bringing him some water to drink. He smiled at her kindly and took the cup in the left hand as the right arm was being hooked to a machine and also had a IV running fluid into his bloodstream to help with recover. As he sipped quietly on the cup he awaited for what news his friend would bring him about how his body was doing after returning to the hospital with him and actually getting the true medical care that he needed after the events that transpired within the maze of death. Looking over at his friend a hint of sorrow could be glimpsed within the bright blue eyes of the man that were about halfway to three quarters of the way open at the moment, though it didn't show on his lightly tanned face, Zao was deeply sorry for Li and what had happened within the Wall.

After all the training and studying he had done since the trip to the spirit ream with Nori the man had thought he'd reached the apex of strength and combining that with hi talent in taming spirits and creating Jouri he felt that he'd be able to deal with any threat that presented itself and that protecting his comrade and good friend would be the same. Though within that death trap even Zao had been pressured by some of the traps and spirits, especially the one who was pulling all the strings within. That spirit alone had caused some fear to creep into the man's mind at the end, there was no doubt in the spirit scholar's mind that the spirit in charge was at the same level of strength as the genma which the village prided themselves overs. The experience and the other spirit traveler whom he'd met with Nori on their adventures through the spirits realms had taught the man a continuous lesson that nothing was ever as simple as it seemed.

Xiao Li smiled as his friend sat up and began speaking to him. "Sore. They had to do a bit of repair work and stuff, but nothing too serious." As he was speaking, the nurse that wheeled Xiao Li into the room had him run through a few exercises to make sure everything was still working as it should. He wriggled his toes, turns his ankles, lifted his legs at his knees, bent his fingers at every joint, and so on. She then had him stand and walk around the room. Turning back to Zao he smiled and said; "They asked me for a full report of what happened, but I requested that I make my report when we were able to make them together as to avoid missing any information. The higher-ups were not too happy about the prostheses, but there wasn't a whole lot they could do about it. They did require a full detailed report of why I have them though. They wouldn't let me put that off. I explained that it was either this," Xiao Li gestured to his entire body, " or I died. They did not want to believe me at first, but when the surgeon that checked me out when we arrived gave his report of the condition of my body they were more inclined to believe that it was do or die." Li spoke relatively quickly, something the doctors told him was due to anxiety caused by nearly losing his life repeatedly over the recent days, but, despite the quickness of his speech, it was obvious that he was happy to see his friend was alright.

Once the nurses left Xiao Li sat back down in his wheelchair, facing Zao, and turned serious. He had been thinking of everything that had happened recently, and the new enlightenment that he had about his career as a Jounin. This led him into a serious train of thought, and one that he knew could very well change his life forever. "After everything is said and done I plan to dive headfirst into my Tenkujutsu training. Not only training, but I am going to request a leave of absence so that I can hunt down any and every spirit that I come across. I need to increase my power in I want to better serve the village. Honestly speaking, I believe that I have been slacking in recent years and am no longer capable of serving the village adequately. If granted the leave of absence I will be taking my fiance and my brother out of the village with me, and will not return until all of us are stronger. I hate to ask this of you Zao, but I may need you to speak with the council on my behalf so that they will grant me my request." Xiao Li was solemn, and nowhere near his usually bubbly, upbeat self. He knew what he was asking of his friend, and hated himself for it.

Sore. This man the middle aged man laugh a bit, how could one not be sore after having the adventure that the two of them had went through over only the course of a few days really. Not to even start to mention the man's body what truly concerned the white-haired shinobi was how the man's mind had been effected by this tragic ordeal Li had suffered. Even haven't his body parts replaced with prosthetics it was a truly life changing ordeal for the younger jounin and then their was also the part of having to explain all of this to their higher echelon of command, as well. But Zao stood firm with his friend on this matter, he'd rather become black listed by the village elders than to allow his friend to die when he had the tools available to save his life at that time. If it was humanly possible the man did not wish to loose another friend, the pain whch the main carried inside of him was enough...

When the man-made mention of telling them that he wished to make the full report of their mission together, Zao nodded his head lightly, "Aye, that would probably help to prevent any confusion with those old ones." A kind smile on his face as the man spoke back to his friend now before listening to him detail that the doctor had needed a full report of how the injuries occured, of course wanting to know if this was something the man had asked for or if it had been done as a last ditch effort to save Li's life. The jounin only smiled and nodded his head, "I believe that they are able to distinguish the difference, I've worked with nearly all the medical-nin within the hospital as I was studying medical ninjutsu and they could tell that this wasn't some well thoughout procedure for sure. Hopefully they were able to clean up the mess I made." There was a light hearted laugh that finally slipped through the thin lips of the future bannin, it was easier to relax himself after all this and let some of the tension and anxiety fade away now that the pair were safely back within their home village.

Even if the man sometimes felt that it wasn't as much of a home to him these days, though he would protect the village and its people with his life, there was something else out there that he felt was calling him to find. Perhaps that was just the spirit of the adventurer buried deep within the man's soul, who really knew. It was then that he saw Li's face become much more serious after the nurse had checked on both of them and then departed the room in order to allow the pair to rest and chat with one another. "Ah, I can see that you have quite a bit of determination in this plan. But don't be to rash to leave." Perhaps the older man was being a bit of a hypocrit as he spoke to Li, having taken off after his first enlistment ran out and ventured out to explore the world and its spirits, growing stronger as a result of it before he returned to the village. There were a number of tides moving about outside the walls of their homeland, many village's seemed to be taking stronger sides and a large part of the man worried about his friend being out there alone. To also take along his family was a noble thought but Zao also could attest to how hard it was to protect those who were much weaker than yourself when a truely difficult situation or battle occured.

Shaking his head a bit and smiling once more as he glanced out the window in their room, he spoke with his soft voice once more to his comrade in arms. "My friend, think on it for a bit as the outside world can truly tamper a man it can also be a harsh one that doens't descriminate between strong and weak when it preys on someone." His eyes seemed to only be half open as he thought back about his travels through the spirit realms, glancing down at the floor for a moment before returning his gaze back onto his friend. "But if after some though you still decide this to be the path you must walk, I will speak to the council as well, but to convince them to allow such a thing will be difficult as I'm sure you can imagine." The experienced man passively drove home the point that his request most likely would not get the approval of their leadership and the way in which their village ran. Unless his contracted time expired then a leave of absence would be hard to get, escpecially one with now solid return date. As jounin, the two men had a lot of information about the village and it made them high profile targets for any other village or organization outside the village's who wished to learn about the secret's of Suna.

Xiao Li sighed as he nodded. He could only accept what his friend had said. After all, he was vastly more experienced with the outside world that Xiao Li. However, Xiao Li was slightly indignant about wanting to go. "I will take your word for it then my friend. I will say, however, that I have been spending the last few days, since our return, thinking over this. I acknowledge that you are vastly more experienced than I with matters of the world outside our desert. I will train here in the village until the matters with Juu no Kuni have settled. Afterward, I shall seek an allowance to travel outside of our home. My brother can handle himself, he only recently returned from the Daimyo's army of samurai. It is my Qing'er that I worry about." After bringing up his wife-to-be, Xiao Li rolled himself to the door and locked it before returning to his friend's bedside. When he spoke again his voice was barely audible, even for someone as close as Zao. "I have even considered sealing a spirit inside of her. I have learned the method for Jinchuuriki creation Zao. I've yet to use it, but I am willing to do anything to give her a leg up in life." Truth be told Xiao Li had been considering turning not only his future wife into a Jinchuuriki but his younger brother as well. He wanted to use his abilities to increase his family's power.

After he finished speaking Xiao Li returned to the door to unlock it, and once more rolled over to the window. He had been thinking of a lot of things the past few days and knew that once he was allowed out of the hospital he was going to have a mountain of work to do. He desperately needed to train his Tenkujutsu to the peak, and he also needed to find a way to augment his new partial puppet body to get the most out of it. Xiao Li had also been going through his memories and aspirations from when he had just learned to use Tenkujutsu, hoping to "find himself" again. He had once dreamed of merging his body with that of a spirit that he had signed a contract with so that he could gain its abilities for the duration of the fusion, but he had never actually gotten around to doing it. He wasn't sure why, other than things, such as puppetry, had taken his mind away from the idea. Xiao Li also wanted to explore realm summoning as well. As he stared out the window his mind began to reel with various things he could do with his Tenkujutsu.

Even though Zao had voiced his opinions about the matter of his friend wishing to take some time away from the village, he knew that deep down through seeing the look in the man's eyes and feeling the commitment within his voice that sooner or later the man would find a way to go. At least he had managed to have the man hold things up until the current matters at hand could become resolved and a future course of actions for the two men could be settled upon. Though he'd never met either of the two family members of Li he could tell that he'd die for them and even when the younger shinobi mentioned that he'd learned the art of spirit sealing and had thoughts of merging a spirit with one or both of them Zao nodded quietly following the words of his friend. It was a truth that one could utilize the powers of a spirit sealed within them, but that was under the assumption that they were able to take control over those powers and not the other way around.

While the latter was something that normally only applied to the most powerful of spirits such as genma, if someone was weak willed and the wrong type of spirit was sealed within them they could end up being tricked or forced into allowing the spirit to assume control over their body. It was a very permanent thing as well, once you sealed a spirit into a person it was for life as there were no exceptions that Zao knew of for a host having their spirit removed where that host didn't die as a result of it. "Everything comes with a risk my friend, just ensure that not only you understand but the people you love also understand those dangers before moving forward." The scholar had even sealed genma hosts before and he knew that even the sealing process could be a very dangerous endeavor to undertake and sometimes those who you had such high hopes for lose control and end up dying as a result. Though he gave his mention of caution to the man in the wheelchair next to his bed, he couldn't help but also smile warmly at his friend who only had thoughts of trying to protect those he loved.

Sometimes traveling and experiencing new things could truly allow for one to find themselves, it had been something like this for Zao when he encountered different shinobi and then the spirit outbreak happened following around the same time was the prison break, as well. For the mean time the man felt that it was best that he stayed close to the village as it felt like things were turning about within the outside world and he didn't wish to leave those he cared about unprotected in the event that something befell his homeland. "In the end we do what we must for that which we love, my friend." The white haired scholar lifted his bright eyes to glance out the open window as one could hear some children playing down in the street along with the other busy people moving about down below on the street level. This place really was his home and part of him had neglected that when he disappeared for those couple of years to selfishly seek out his own place in life and explore the rest of the world, but he also knew that without that experience and tempering he wouldn't be at the level that he was at today.

Exhaling softly the man smiled to himself and using his arms and core muscles he twisted himself to the right allowing for his legs to hang off the edge as he faced the window that had previously been off to his right. "I should be well enough tomorrow to leave, I'm still a bit exhausted in terms of my chakra pool but that will take more than a few days of bed rest to fix. I'll have to ask one of the doctors to send word to the council to that we'd like to have an audience with them in the next couple of days if possible. Then it looks like I'll have to dive into the Scribes restricted libraries and do some more research to see if I can find anything else about that strange place..." His eyes were still only about half open as they seemed to go blank for a moment, his thoughts replaying through the chaotic adventure the two men had managed to survive in the end, sadly not unscaved though. He wanted to verify that there was no other information on Juu within the village before reaching out to more obsecure means to some old contacts he had developed that operated in the black market when he had been traveling the world.

Xiao Li nodded in agreement with the words of his friend Zao. He knew that the biggest obstacle that they would have to overcome now was the council and their rebuttal to what had transpired within Juu no Kuni. So many things had begun going through his mind that it seemed as if he were in a grand hall listening to a cacophony of voices all speaking at the same time. However, the loudest voice that reverberated in his mind was that of Zao's. The man's warning about creating the Jinchuuriki was not taken lightly by Xiao Li but had instead come to the forefront of his mind. He knew that not everyone was suitable to host a spirit, and that even those who were suitable were only suitable to a specific type of spirit. Xiao Li also knew that if he tried to create a Jinchuuriki and the host and spirit were incompatible the host would die. These worries began to pile up in the mind of Xiao Li and began to make him hesitate on his convictions to boost his family's power through the use of his mastery of Tenkujutsu.

While Xiao Li had been staring out of the window a knock had come at the door which had slowly opened after Xiao Li called out "Come in!" in a barely audible voice having assumed it was more doctors and nurses come to check on them. It was not until he felt the soft arms of Xiao Qing wrap around his neck and rest on his shoulders that he realized he was wrong about who had come knocking. Turning his wheelchair around with a smile, he pulled the woman who was to be his wife down into his lap, while he greeted his younger brother happily. "Qing'er, Feng'er what are you two doing here?" His voice was light and happy and did not betray the weight that was on his mind only moments ago. His brother, Xiao Feng, laughed boisterously while he brought two items out from behind his back and passed them over to Xiao Li. The first of which was a katana that had a simple sand color cord wrapped around the hilt, a gold plated pommel and guard, and a sheath made of stained redwood. The blade of the katana, which was also uniquely sand-colored, was twenty-six inches in length while the hilt of the blade was eight-inches in length. "When y'all arrived and subsequently passed out, the doctors gathered your things and when I found out that you were alright I went to gather them for you. I then noticed that you spear had been destroyed, but that the blade had been saved by you. So, I took it, and that crude-looking mask thing you had and headed to the village's armory. They reforged the blade into that katana for you, as I know that you have been practicing Iaido lately and need a blade, and even remade the mask for you." After Xiao Feng finished speaking Xiao Li drew the katana from its sheath and admired the craftsmanship with a bright smile. He had especially loved how the crude mask he had made out of Spike had been remade.

He knew that with these two items in his arsenal he would not be so useless in a close combat situation any longer. Xiao Li handed the items back to his brother and bid him take them to his home as he was still unable to leave the hospital at that time. And, after speaking with Xiao Qing for a few moments, he climbed back into his hospital bed while the two left. "I don't know about you, but this matter with the council is sure weighing on my mind. I can only hope for the best, but, for some reason, I am expecting the worst."

It took a bit of effort on the part of the still somewhat exhausted and weak man to even simply turn his head to greet who ever had knocked on their door, as the words of his younger comrade spoke for them to enter he was a bit surprised to see the two that soon found their way into the man's room. It was the older brother and fiancé of Li. An unconscious smile formed on the white haired man's thin lips as he watched the young woman wrap her arms around his partner. Adjust himself back into position on the bed he waited for the three to interact and speak with one another, offering a simple greeting to the pair but not doing anything else allowing for his friend to have time with his loved ones.

"They care a lot about you my friend." As the pair were leaving Zao had laid back into the raised hospital bed and spoke to Li now as he the departing shinobi closed the door behind them in order to allow the two jounin to rest and recover. The man's voice was as gentle as the whispering wind, his head tilted over to the left now to bring the other patient into view. It was a little bit different for the wandering spirit tamer who didn't have any brother or sisters, or any close family member besides his mother and father. Well...that was except for Wei. But for the time being the man wished to keep their relationship out of the lime light. He never was one much to want to be in any form of spotlight, it just wasn't something he desired or wanted for himself or those around him.

"It is indeed a heavy matter my friend, but you are not the first case of something like this happening. And if there is any type of backlash it will fall on me for my actions. " Even though he spoke of possible backlash or even punishment for his actions of going against the laws of their homeland, Zao would do the same thing over in order to save Li. It was rare to meet someone like him, this man in Zao's eyes was a true brother whom he'd protect to the grave like his own family. The unspoken bond between Li and himself was not something most could understand without having gone through and experienced what the two men had together to forge that bone of honor and trust.

Laughing gentle to attempt an help lighten the mood a bit he laid his head back and looked up at the light in the ceiling about the pair, "I believe everything will work out fine my friend and best of all we should be able to leave the hospital tomorrow. Though I've spent a lot of time here working on patients I'm honestly not to keen on being the patient." He laughed lightly again as he found himself thinking about his own fiancé, Dasu Wei...wondering what she was doing right about now...the thought of the young woman caused the man to close his eyes and for his body to become relaxed.
