[Event] Save Our Souls

The village of Sunagakure no Sato was facing an existential threat. Its fortified walls had always been prepared to fend off wars caused by man. It had proven itself resilient against the merciless elements of the desert. But this? A practical force of nature brought to bare against all they had to stand against it? Even those mighty walls, forged by Kazekage past, might not be enough to endure this cataclysm they faced. Already the main threat had begun to burrow deep into the sands, seeking out Suna's precious water source below. But this was not the only threat. The massive being had ensured that the forces above ground would be well occupied whilst it sought its main objective. While the forces on the walls were busy fighting the majority of the spawns, which had fallen outside of the village, there were still others which managed to penetrate Suna's walls from above.

A number of spawns, having emerged from the missile-like capsules in which they had descended, wasted little time in laying waste to their surroundings. Fires and lightning storms ripped through the air with reckless abandon, and if it wasn't contained quickly, it was likely that trapped civilians could be caught in the crossfire, and precious village resources and cultural sites could be lost to the chaos of war.

Forced back above ground into the village due to the massive beast's dive into the sands, a large number of civillians and genin were already in disarray due to the threat of death by burial. It was their great misfortune that they should arise back above ground as three of the larger spawns, easily ten feet high on all fours, crawled over builds and along walls and locked their merciless focus on the group of stragglers. The air around them seemed to crackle with energy, barometric pressure rising that could cause hairs to stand on end. If nothing was done, this entire group's lives were forfeit.

The scrape of chalk on slate served as a scratchy background to the woman's voice as she explained to her class the intricacies of fire-based ninjutsu. The thunder of the first impact startled her enough that she cracked her chalk on the board. "Everyone to the nearest shelter, now." she commanded as she walked briskly to the nearest window. A glance outside saw the massive whale-like creature in the sky, and plumes of dust and sand from impacts of some kind of large object. She turned back to her students to watch them scramble out of the room in various states of panic. There was no point telling them to calm down, they were much too young yet to control their terror properly.

She oversaw the last of her charges into the bunker, into the care of the chuunin that would man the doors. A chorus of screams turned her attention down the large lane that approached the bunker, and she saw them. Three stone creatures pursuing villagers while they panicked. A first look at this enemy of Sunagakure up close. She glanced up at the giant beast in the sky, assessing the back and forth of arcs of fire and lightning, streams of sand and projectiles of all shapes and sizes. For now, at least, the beast seemed to be delayed. She had time.

Kougyoku approached the running villagers calmly, reaching out with her right hand to gather chakra into it. Stone skin meant fire would be an inefficient method of attack, it would take a lot of heat to melt them. She would have to cut through with her wind sword. She willed her chakra to pull air into the palm of her hand and with a flick of her wrist drew it out into the shape of a sword. A quick slash down the side of her dress freed her legs from the cloth, allowing her to bend her knees and sink low as the group ran toward her. Let's see how well my training has paid off she thought as she watched them come closer and closer. One of the beasts legs dropped slightly, and she knew it prepared to leap. That was when she struck.

With a prod from her chakra Kougyoku bent gravity to her will, shifting it to slingshot her as she kicked off of the ground. A red streak, she flashed across the distance in an instant and caught the beast in mid air, swirling with blade in hand to cut both forelegs and head from the creature's body. Her momentum kept her rolling over the beast and her feet touched the ground mid twirl as she spun to a halt. She took a moment to assess the effectiveness of her strike before continuing.
used techniquesShow
[Kuuton | Void Step]
D-ranked Kuuton Nintaijutsu Manoeuvre
After channelling chakra around their body, the user utilises the force of gravity to accelerate their body for an intense burst of speed. This allows the user to reach their maximum speed instantly for their next movement.

[Fuuton | Sword of Revolving Victory]
C-Ranked Fuuton Jutsu
The user channels their chakra before creating a sword of wind within their hand. The created sword will have all the regular properties of a normal sword and can be of any shape or style so long as the blade does not exceed 1m in length and two inches in width. The edge of this sword consists of spinning blades of wind, causing it to always cut with [Control] strength. This weapon lasts a number of posts equal to half the user’s control score. When this technique is used with higher than rank average control, the user may increase the size of the sword as they wish, so long as it does not breach the maximums outlined in the ninjutsu rules.

Swirling Sands of Triumph
B-ranked Taijutsu Manoeuvre
Prerequisite: [Sword Weapons] [Acrobatics] 50 speed.
The user will prepare to launch themselves for a moment before launching themselves at high speeds toward a target. They will then spin while slicing with their sword, torquing their muscles to attack with such blinding speed that there appears to be three blades simultaneously attacking from three different sides. Those with a speed stat less than 5 points lower than the user’s will be able to tell that they are really 3 consecutive slashes performed at lightning speed, but each will land only fractions of a second after the other regardless.

(OOC: So glad to see someone paying attention to the anatomy of these spawns.)

The teacher's sharp eyes would serve her well in this battle, the spawn barely having the time to utter a slight metallic whimper as its forelegs and head were rent from its body. Green, viscous fluid sprayed from the corpse that slowly released its grip and fell to the ground. Its two companions, aware of the threat they faced, raised their heads and released a piercing shrill into the wartorn sky. It was clear the purpose of that call, as the bannin would perceive a sudden shift in the movements around her, particularly outside the wall just before her. The feeling was just a touch different than chakra, but her sensory abilities seemed to be compatible with whatever energy these spawns used. A small mass of the creatures outside the village's walll shifted and beelined for her location. They would be here very shortly.

Reinforcements.

The two spawns, consigning themselves to their fates for the chance at inflicting damage on a powerful foe, abandoned the notion of slaughtering the villagers wholesale, instead immediately jumping from their perched positions on the buildings, to swipe and crush with their claws and considerable weight, launching themselves into the air. They cared little for colatteral damage, causing considerable damage to any building they might collide with. They were not senseless in their attack, however, as should the bannin immediately seek to counterattack one, the second would likely set upon her. It was clear that they had some form of intellect.

Feet spinning to a scraping halt, Kougyoku nodded as she saw her target stop moving. It seems they're close enough to living beings to be killed normally. she thought with satisfaction. This would be the first time her newly polished skills would be used in active duty, and she was proud to use them to save her people. Her head turned back and forth as she checked the other two screaming entities weren't pursuing those she protected.

The ground rumbled in that building way that said a crowd approached. They'd called for reinforcements. These two were also on either side of her. She was pincered. Well that's not good.

She wove her chakra skilfully into pressure and air, casting two simple techniques in the space of moments. As they leapt for her she also took to the air. There was that same strange kreening sound as gravity bent around her, allowing her to reach her full speed as she jumped. Then, as her body slowed at the apex of her leap and it appeared the two beasts would be able to jump to meet her in the air, she kicked off of the air a second time and soared above them in the sky. The two may not comically smash into each other, but they'd get tangled over trying to aim for such a relatively small target when both were so large.

From her vantage point in the air she pointed her sword down toward the two as they completed their jumps and fell to the ground. Her chakra gathered the wind around her sword, preparing to force it out. "Carry me to Glory! Winds of Victory!" Her voice rang out as she willed the wind to surge along her blade and down into the pair as they met the ground beneath her. The swirling whirlwind would tear them in various swirling directions, forcing them into the ground while tearing at their bodies with transparent blades.

[Fuuton | Gale Step]
D-ranked Fuuton Nintaijutsu Manoeuvre
After channelling their chakra, the user utilises a gust of wind to move in mid air while riding the wind in a practiced manner. This allows them to effectively 'jump' a second time, allowing them to change direction and gain some movement while in mid air without creating unnecessary openings. The Fuuton passive is not used in this technique.

The following is cast at C45. The whirlwind's size will be increased a sufficient amount to cover an area which will fully target both beasts, up to the maximum of the increase allowed for this level of casting. I would have been specific but I'm not actually sure how big the spawns are.

[Fuuton | Winds of Victory]
C-Ranked Fuuton Jutsu
The user will channel Fuuton chakra into a weapon they are holding, which will remain on it for the next 3 posts. During these 3 posts, the user can at any time cause their weapon to release a swirling whirlwind along its length and up to 10 meters further than it’s tip, and 3m in diameter, with [Control] strength and speed. The whirlwind is not persistent, and erupts as a single burst. The user can release this whirlwind up to 3 times over the 3 posts.

(OOC: Indeed, my fault for not being specific on that. Roughly speaking, the creatures are ten feet tall on all fours and fifteen feet in length. That's a touch over 3 meters and almost 4.6 meters respectively.

Also, do note that any time I mention electric energy, it is mechanically the same as Raiton chakra.)

Most sentient creatures had at least some form of instinct for self-preservation. Ultimately, the fear of death was much more difficult for an animal to fend off. Humans and species of higher intellect had principles and convictions that allowed them to override that inherent desire to persist as long as possible. That was why, despite how weak they were individually, the teacher would likely find the actions they took as quite worrisome. Within their movements, within their strategy one thing was apparent. It wasn't simply that they didn't care about living or dying. Whatever these creatures were, the immediacy with which they moved and the will with how they acted demonstrated that they had no fear of death at all. Not simply that it was conquered; no, it was never there to begin with.

Though the two were buffeted with slicing winds and did not escape all of the damage done to their bodies, suffering large gashes on various areas on their bodies, the two creatures still had the electric energy stored in their armor, and they released it simultaneously in a wide aura. The threatened villagers had just barely managed to escape the area and escape harm, but there was no telling if they would need protection again. The two large domes of electricity would get snuffed out by the fuuton jutsu, but they fulfilled their purpose in weakening the jutsu enough where they could move without risking further serious injury from that specific casting of the jutsu. The armor bore the brunt of the assault and started regrowing slowly due to still being buffetted by the winds of her fuuton jutsu. The creatures yet again took to the walls of the buildings, this time scaling up to the rooftops.

Instead of merely attacking at once, the spawns quickly set to alternating between leaping from roof-top to rooftop, both to try and evade further attacks from the powerful enemy they faced as well as create more consistent offensive pressure. They were intelligent and had the ability to adapt strategies on the fly, however basic they were.
