From Iron to Dust

The ceilings were high. That was Shio's first thought when he walked into the Kage building. Then, he wondered if the building itself had been constructed from sand or sandstone, the drab colors from the outside had given him little indication otherwise. All else, the building was impressive, pristine and well preserved, all things he would expect from the building that housed the leadership of the village. He'd been given instruction to wait, and so with his hands crossed behind his back, the young boy stood, his eyes wide and moving around the building to take in as much of it as he could. Alongside him was Kesu, who had been quiet since their arrival. Unlike how he was normally, Kesu had both feet flat on the ground, not floating. Shio had some concerns about Kesu having displays of capacity when they were among shinobi. It was...precautionary.

In part, Shio had requested a meeting with the former Kazekage as a formality. It would have been unusual for him to have requested to come to Sunagakure to meet with Zao, and not gone to see anyone else of authority. He was curious, if he was honest, how things were in Sunagakure right now anyways. With Kiyori having stepped down from her position, he wasn't very confident what the status quo here even was, let alone how well it was being maintained. Suna had value though, just as every village did, and he wanted to make sure he understood it so he could tap into that value if the day ever came for him to do so.

The rest of the samurai entourage Shio had brought with him did not accompany them on this excursion. Shio had encouraged them to interact with locals, learn about the culture, and enjoy the food. He'd made mention - quite a few times actually - of the famous dango that Suna had, and had all but made the samurai promise they would try them. This was partially a way of forging relationships, it showed a propensity towards unity. But, in part it was to given them opportunity to learn as much as they could and report back to the Taishou. Everything had its use after all.

"Should be soon.", he said to Kesu, nodding softly at the boy.
