Day 1 - Fear

Zao set quietly inside of his home within the grand village of Suna, blowing gently across the top of his hot teacup causing the tendrils of steam to swirl around one another as they rose into the air. His normally bright blue eyes seemed a bit dimmer than usual today as he took a slow sip of the fresh tea in his cup, but his mind was elsewhere at the moment. The man's white hair sprawled down the back of the wooden chair, the waist length locks hiding the back of the chair from view as he simply stared off into space as his mind was lost in thoughts of the past and the impending future. But it was not so much his own future that he was concerned with as the Spirit Saint had already accepted the path, he wanted to walk on no matter how it affected him in the future, after all it was much too late to take back what he had done. Sooner or later he already knew that the past would catch up to him and he'd need to deal with it then but for now he simply tried to take care of the one his heart belonged to.

It was in that moment that he felt a strange pain flitter through his heart, it was almost like the feeling of something stabbing straight through his chest as his prosthetic left hand reached up grasping at his heart as he looked down to see nothing was there. "What was that...?!" A hint of fear ran through his mind but with a thought chakra flowed through his body and within his mind a specific fuuin seal was targeted on the second floor of his own home, wasting not even the time it would take for him to move from the first floor to the second floor normally as his body vanished as the cup in his hand was the only thing left remaining seemingly suspended in the air. But this was only for a fraction of a second before gravity took over and the once floating cup of hot tea fell and smashed across the wide wooden board floor of the Bannin's home. Elsewhere in the man's home, in a large room with open windows on two of the four walls was a elegant bed in which was a young-looking woman but the life seemed to be absent in her pale face as her v-neck shirt revealed dark black obstract lines running up from within the concealed torso.

A empty glass was knocked over on the nightstand to the right of the bed as if she had knocked it over while trying to place it onto the piece of furniture, her eyes were closed with her lips just barely parted as though she was asleep. But in that moment the space and time swirled need to the bed as the white robed Zao stepped through space to reach her, he was a well experienced medical shinobi and even with just a glance he already knew that the woman before him, Wei...the love of his life and soul mate had passed away mere moments before he arrived. "Wei...." A strange look that bordered on perhaps madness mixed with fresh tears on his face as his hands moved in a series of complex hand seals that were different from the traditional ninjutsu variant now as he reached down placing his hand on the chest of the young woman. A flare of chakra flowed out of him now as space and time began to ripple around the woman's body and slowly time came under his control and it froze completely for just a moment, then started to rewind itself as he could see her eye lids flutter just barely and her arm retract back to her side before.

Reversing time was something that was truly to chakra intensive, even with his chakra reserves a few minutes was all that he was able to do and was one of the main reasons that the Suna-nin wished to hunt down the legendary spirits and their vast, perhaps almost unlimited amount of chakra that they contained in their natural spirit forms. Time came to a stop as the bright blue eyes of his young wife were open with a surprised look as Zao retracted his hand and took his wife's hand in his own, "My love, where did you come from?" She was always happy for her husband to set next to her but had been slightly startled as one instant the man wasn't there and the next he was without any warning or sound. "Why are you crying, darling?" She spoke out again, her voice soft and filled with concern for the teary-eyed man who held onto her hand tightly. "Because I don't want to let go...." He choked up but managed to speak with his whisper like voice and in that instant she understood, the Dasu had traveled many foriegn places outside of this world and realm with her husband and knew of all his skills. With her own memories and the look and words that came from her love she understood that he'd just reversed time and that most likely she had died. "How many times have you done this?"

Wei couldn't help but question her husband as he shook his head and closed his eyes, exhaling slowly to gain his baring before trying to speak as he managed to form a gentle smile as he gazed down at the pale faced woman half covered by the blanket on the bed. "Just once." With his words she also smiled and reached up to touch his face, "Please don't do it a second time then." She could suddenly feel that her body was getting weaker, and her vision even started to dim around the edges at this point, this only confirmed her thoughts from earlier as she simply smiled. "Goodbye, my love." She was glad that in the end she was able to see and touch her love one last time before blackness enveloped her consciousness and she fell back slightly against the pillow, passing painlessly as a soft smile remained on her lips as the hand fell with a soft thud onto the mattress of the bed. "Goodbye..."

It was in that moment that something happened, the scenery changed and once more the man found himself with tears in his eyes holding his cup of hot tea, "Was that a dream or?" It didn't feel like he'd fallen asleep and the tears in his eyes and the grief in his heart both felt real as he put the cup down and disappeared only to reappear next to his wife's bed. She slept peacefully and her vitals appeared stable...even seeing this allowed for his body to calm down, the true fear of losing his wife before he could save her was still deeply embedded within the Suna-nin's mind. Would he be able to save her?

Day 2

If anything, the daydream or whatever it was had truly been a moment of enlightenment perse for Zao, as it spoke to him what one of the possible realities was for his wife's future. Either he would be able to reverse time and turn her body back to the way it was before the great war and the encounter with the Demon Hegemon, or she would perish. The dream had allowed for him to 'experience' a few moments of that one pathway and it spoke to him personally about needing to find the ability to let go. Even so, Zao would fight for his wife and his plan to possibly be able to save her. But in the end if he truly was unable to pull of this nigh impossible feat that would also bring the great five down upon him for his actions, he would truly be able to let go knowing that he did everything humanly possible to accomplish his goals. As for what would happen afterwards, he had no idea. Shaking his thoughts, the man leaned down and gently kissed the pale faced woman's forehead before turning to quietly leave for the moment to allow her to continue resting as he ventured back downstairs and cleaned up the mess, he had made with the broken teacup. After that was taken care of the man tossed on his white rob and secured it at the waist with a simple tied tan colored sash before departing from his home, he needed to get some fresh air and decided to take a bit of time to simply walk the busy midday streets of the Sand village.

He hadn't walked far, having stopped to look at one of the merchant stands that was set up on the sidewalk of the main street that split the village in eastern and western halves an aged voice called out the Spirit Saint causing for him turn his gaze upon an elderly looking man with thinning white hair on top of his head with a pointed beard that stretched down to his chest in length. "Little Zao, is that you?" Despite his age and even rank within the village, the old man who simply stood as straight as a stick just stroked his beard and called out to him like he was still the young child that he had been over two decades ago when his merchant father had enlisted the older man to help tutor Zao who was a fresh genin. "Haha, Old man!" Not standing on ceremony he walked over and hugged the frail looking figure who only laughed in return as the pair separated and the bannin continued to speak. "I had thought you were still out traveling or even worse. You've been gone for over ten years!" The old man's name was Chin and he was well known during his prime as a powerful ninjutsu user and it was this same man that led Zao along to discover the art of SpaceTime ninjutsu, as well.

"How about grabbing something to drink with this old man?" There was a fondness in the old man's eyes, just like he was looking at his own child or grandchild when he saw the long haired Bannin he still couldn't help but see the motivated youth from years past. "Of course, sensei." With that the pair began to chat between themselves as he moved across the street to a nearby restaurant that they had eaten at several times before. But as they entered it was a strange sight to see as two pairs of individuals were embroiled in a rather physical struggle with one another as tables were knocked over and broken, fractured dishes and silverware littered the floor. As the own spotted the two new men he was pointing and yelling at the youths which caused for the Bannin to sigh quietly to himself. Zao flicked out his right hand as crystal blue charka threads manifested with but a thought and connected to the four separate men who suddenly found themselves feeling as though they couldn't move, and everything went deadly silent as they turned their eyes to see the Demon himself with a frowning expression looking in their direction. "Silly kids..." The old man spoke and without warning they group felt fear that caused them to break out in cold sweat and their hearts to clench up, unseen the four were affected by the old man's genjutsu as Zao released them causing for them to drop to the floor as they kowtowed towards the old man.

"Clean this mess up and path him for the damages you caused." The elderly man spoke with a gentle voice but to them it sounded like the angel of death was speaking to them about, it felt like he was about truly reap their lives and take away their souls, so they quickly bowed to the two shinobi and then the owner before beginning to tidy up and pay the owner as the old man and his former student found a quiet seat in the corner of the restaurant.

D4 - Trapped in a box.

After coming home shortly after his encounter with his old sensei, the Spirit Saint checked on his wife and spoke with their sone briefly about some matters before he ended up setting down at the kitchen table once more, sipping as some tea that had already gotten cold by the time the white-haired shinobi had managed to make his way back around to it. Shaking his weary head slightly from side-to-side Zao yawned and leaned back in the chair for a moment as he attempted to filter through his different train of thoughts and towards the strange occurrences that had been happening in his mind today. Just like that his mind went blank for a few moments and when he opened is eyes he was still seated within a chair, but as his vision corrected itself it wasn't his kitchen chair. It was metallic and the place that he was in seemed to barely be lit but he could make out that it was a rather confined space that was only about ten feet by ten feet, as though it was some cube shape that had a single light at the top of its powered by some fuuin inscription and at the edge of each wall close to the hard grey colored floor was a small vent about six inchest in diameter. Coming to his senses, still feeling a bit sluggish for one reason or another, Zao glanced down to see that his arms and legs to held in place by metal clasps to ensure that he didn't escape but how in the world had he gotten here? Who had the capacity to act against him without him even known?

A multitude of questions raced through the experienced ninja's mind at the moment as he flexed his left arm against the metal restrain that connected him to the left arm of the chair, chakra circulating through the normal looking arm that was truly a high in prosthetic that he had crafted himself after having his left arm removed because of the dark chakra of the Demon Hegemon that had rendered it useless and threated to continue to devour more than just that arm. Even with the increased strength that was truly able to touch upon the upper limit of what even some of the strongest fighters were capable of using the restrain barely flexed and showed no signs of breaking even if he was to continue to fight against it. What was the purpose of him being here? Why would someone go through so much trouble to infillitrate the village and even his home in order to abduct him and take him into such a place? Did someone finally discover what he had done? Many questions continued to run through the man's mind at a rapid rate just as he hear the sound of dripping water and he quickly glanced up from the floor and from each of the vents that he could see water begin to at first drip from each before it increased to a steady flow that quickly coated the bottom of the cube shaped room in water as it continued to slowly inch its way up quickly flowing up to his ankles and working its way up towards his mid shin height. "Normal strength won't be enough for this."

If there was one thing that he was good at, it would be staying alive and fleeing as he attempted to connect to the outside world but found he was cut off from using his ability to move through space and time through teleportation, as though the local spacetime had been sealed through some manner. Not an impossible feat but it required someone else of a high level of skill in the art of spacetime to complete. This only caused more questions to run into his mind as he closed his eyes, trying to calm his mind as a faint blue outline of chakra formed around his body and it seemed to become almost transparent. This was a spacetime skill that allowed for Zao to slip his real body between the seams of space, rendering his body almost ethereal as he slipped through the restraints as if they weren't even there, but he found that he was unable to actually move through the walls that seemed to be created from some form of chakra infused metal. 'Guess that would have been too easy. Ethereal chakra spread out from his almost illusionary body causing time to be affected, more specifically closed as the water coming into the room was stopped completely just as it had reached just over his knee in depth. "Something is strange here..." It was at that moment that he seemed to understand something, something felt different about this place, as though it two was illusionary. "A dream?" Closing his eyes, the man began to focus on bringing his mind and body back together as one, it was the same feeling he had experienced earlier that day and as everything merged back together as one he opened his eyes to find that he was sitting back in his kitchen alone....

Day 5 - Whispering Death Stone

Flash forward, two days later the bannin had been issued an order to visit a land on the far northwest corner of the now enlarged country of Wind as there had been a strange disturbance in the village that laid in the foothills of a rather strange mountain range that seemed to attract a lot of attention from various spirits. Yet just that alone wouldn't have been caused to dispatch one of the top Tenku users within the village, except for the fact that the report that had filtered its way back to the Suna village was that a strange stone had appeared there, and it was causing people to become violent and lose their minds to the point that it was causing people to kill one another in order to possess the strange stone. As to why they believed the stone was worth killing another for the report had been unable to assist in answering that part of the mystery and without being able to truly determine the level of such a mission the Kazekage had dispatched the Spirit Saint to investigate assuming that this was somehow related to a demonic spirit that had managed to slip through the spirit realm it belonged to an into their realm. There was also the fact that his ability to move through space to distance places quickly made him a good fit to quickly investigate the matter as several people had already lost their lives due to this strange stone that had appeared within their world. From a swirling portal of spacetime as white robed, white-haired man who appeared to be in his thirties stepped out into outskirts of a rather vacant looking village that appeared to have been damaged through some man-made means causing him to frown slightly.

Beside him a seal marker left on a kunai that had been given to a number of reconnaissance patrols who patrolled wind country began to slowly crumble and fade away as he reached down retrieving the kunai and glancing around but was unable to visually locate anyone right off hand. "This place was supposed to be home to over a hundred people, where is everyone?" He couldn't help but question out loud as he slowly began to walk forth and enter the town through what appeared to be a main road that dissected the small village of just over twenty buildings and homes in half as a felt plumes of smoke swirled up from fires that hand burnt down a few of the nearby buildings, a thin film of ash could be found on the buildings and the ground as each step left a light foot print from Zao as he pushed forwards. In the center of the town, near a now destroyed statue, a pile of deceased figures could be found as the injuries appeared to be from a brawl like fight as he could count at least ten bodies here at first glance as each of them seemed centered around the broken down relic, one figure in the very center was still clasped hold of a slick piece of black stone that was almost a perfect sphere shape and gave off a gentle black glow even in the fading evening as the sunlight was almost gone. 'How strange...'

He could already tell that this must have been the foreign object spoken about in the mission brief as he glanced up at the remnants of the statue that seemed it could have been the original place this stone had been hidden but what had caused these normal civilians to act in such a brutal nature? Sighing to himself he reached out with one hand as chakra threads that had a soft blue hue came to life and attached themselves to these orbs and pulled it over until it landed softly in the palm of the other hand. 'This...!' As it came into contact with his hand it was like an invisible power began to invade his body and chakra but he couldn't let go of the orb as a strangely familiar voice called to him. "So you are the one to come here, perhaps out fates were bound to cross again little shinjobi." Startled he pushed the orb further away from him as he spoke, "This is impossible.." Zao's face was panicked as he didn't know what to say, this voice, this presense...it belonged to the demon Hegemon but how was that possible when the Death God had been the one to pull him away back to that realm? "Did you think that I wouldn't be able to hide some of my soul here in this realm, that I wouldn't have back up plans against that old God? Keke' He began to laugh, almost like some sort of maniac as it echoed deep into the very soul of the man who had lost almost everything at the hands of this Demonic Figure and then everything went black.

Zao shot up from his bed within his home, also startling his wife who woke up reaching over to grab his hand softly, covered in sweat the man's breathing was labored but his eyes were wide open. Had it really been a nightmare or was it some sort of premonition that this world was truly not free from the influence of the Hegemon. Either way, the Spirit Saint needed to do a little investigating on his own to see if there was potentially any shard of truth to the dream he had just awoken from.

Day 6 - Capture the strange orb shaped creature?

Reports of a new creature, small in size but too fast to clearly be seen from the remote country of owl had drawn a handful of explorers interested in being the very first to observe and potentially catch this rare animal in order to study it. One of these individuals was a short, older woman who was currently sporting a large, brimmed hat with large circular framed glasses, quietly adjusting her leather-bound pack on her shoulders as she walked beside a slender man whose white locks were tied back in a loose ponytail at the base of his neck, but the scholarly looking man's hair still reached just past waist length. Zao had been assigned to accompany the elderly woman who was researching a new creature and had come to Suna in order to pay for a shinobi escort to the foreign land and as a form of protection. This was for two reasons: the first was that the land was currently being influenced by the nation of Iwa and moving about within it as the opposing nation attempted to seize control of the spiritual nation had its own danger and secondly, she already understood enough from the sighting that had been reported that a normal person probably had little to no chance of actually being able to capture such a fast and nimble animal. The one sole picture that had made it back to the researchers was a single white blur where one was unable to even make out the tiniest of details about the strange creature except that its speed surpassed their understanding of the world. She had almost begged for assistance but in truth the Sand village wasn't looking to get into any unnecessary conflicts with the enemy nation just yet and in the end after some discussion Zao had offered to help the older woman with her personal crusade.

This led the pair to where they were today, just inside the southern border area of the country as the massive redwood like trees extended over a hundred meters into the air or higher, being too wide around that several people would be needed to reach around their sturdy foundations that rooted them into the tough soil of the forest floor. "We've finally arrived." There was excitement in the old woman's voice as she had already produced a set of binoculars and a small camera that hung around her neck at the moment, while his escort was frantically searching for a glimpse at this strange new animal Zao on the other hand was more cautious as he too found a bit of interest in this case he was more so worried about them accidently stumbling onto some of the Iwa shinobi that might be patrolling this southern area as it was one of the easier routes to enter the rough terrain of the country making it an easier ingress route. But due to the woman's age and physical abilities he had chosen this to be the most suitable route to bring her allowing them to reach the country in just over a week of travel time. A full day went by as the pair say numerous animals, even some rarer seen ones, but nothing like the reports as the shinobi used his spirit pets to help guard the surrounding area as the pair ate and eventually rested in the dark forest.

The researcher was up even earlier than Zao, eager to continue to 'hunt' for this unique creature as Zao was soon to rise and after a bit of foot the pair was off again as they began to search another sector of the southern region that they had broken up into four sectors to make their search more methodical after arriving. In was in this sector that after searching for half a day the pair had broken for a bit of lunch and to rest, he was surprised at the stamina of the older woman who seemed to keep going and going in her attempts to find this unique animal. As they set in a small rock outcropping eating a few dried fruits that they had brought along there was a rustling around as Zao caught the glimpse of something pure white in color that flashed through the clearing and stole some of the fruit near the woman's plate. "Heh, seems you have found a friend." Startled the old woman somehow managed to leap to her feet, though she hadn't seen the creature snatch her food she had seen the food disappear from her plate just as she had gone to take another piece for herself. "Was it the animal we came to find?!" She frantically began to look around but couldn't catch a glimpse of it at all with her normal field of vision. "It would seem so, what a unique animal for sure."
Zao hadn't been completely focused earlier but his gaze suddenly became several times sharper as he peered out into the dim forest as a tiny white furred creature similar to a rabbit almost in appearance, but its ears were slenderer and not quite as along, plus it had a pair of bird like wings upon its back that allowed it to fly and accelerate to impossible speeds almost instantly. 'How unique indeed.' There were only a few pieces of the dried fruit left and Zao had them in his hand as he set out a piece in front of them and his eyes seemed to glow with a tinge of maroon chakra, watching closely at the strange creature that held a small among of spirit chakra within it made a second run and snatched away the small piece of fruit that was from his homeland of Suna. It would seem that the new fruit was rather tasty to the little combination of a squirrel, rabbit, and bird. But it was only affected by the natural spiritual chakra within these lands and wasn't a true spirit, what an interesting discovery. "Come here little one." He spoke out, though his voice was soft it was conveyed through his spiritual chakra towards the creature that jumped back as the voice echoed in its own thoughts, but it understood him yet remained very cautious as it inched its way out of the shadows revealing itself for the first time to the scientist and zoologist that had come all this way to see it as she quickly took a few pictures. After a few minutes the tiny white furred creature with wings was eating the fruit from Zao's hand. "What a beautiful little animal. If it wasn't here with its family I would see if it wanted to come travel with me."

The old woman looked confused by her escort's words as he had turned his gaze towards the left as from the edge of his vision, he was able to see another pair of the same creature waiting patiently in the shadows, one was about the same size as the one eating the Bannin's fruit and the other was much smaller, only a baby that clung to its parent's back at the moment. Smiling he pulled out some more fruit that he had kept hidden and gave it to the flying squirrel creature who filled its mouth up causing its cute cheeks to puff out before it disappeared from sight moving to its mate and child. "Seems that it has a mate and a baby that it's trying to feed." The scene caused for the Spirit Saint to think back to his own wife and son at the moment, sighing to himself at the situation he had placed both of them in...

Day 8 - Show down with himself!

Zao was out in the middle of the forest area just inside the border of the original Fire country before the wartime expansion, he was quietly seated atop a small boulder as his gaze seemed to be on something that wasn't of this world, a strange aura pulsating from his very being as if he was here but not here. 'I still have so much to do; I'll travel south to the northern portion of water country after this and search for clues about both Jinchuuriki who reside there. I should attempt to push the area of focus away from Suna and myself.' Shaking his head, the man knew this was a difficult path that he'd set out upon and with that he sighed before he leaped forward off the small rock seat and landed starting to casually walk away as he was caught up in his thoughts about what he needed to accomplish in order for him to save her.

BOOM!

From what sounded just like the rock he had just been seated upon was an eruption that sounded like an explosive had detonated causing the man to jump forward and twist in midair as he landed with a metal folding fan appearing in his hand and a long red bladed sword in the other. 'What?' His eyes questioned what they were seeing as before him in the settling smoke and dust was a man who appeared identical to him and was even wielding the same weapons as him. 'What kind of magic is this?' His ocean blue eyes scanned from right to left as his chakra spread out invisibly around him opening his mind's eye as he attempted to find anyone hiding within the area around him as this felt like some kind of trick or illusion. But strangely no one was there, only the single chakra signature before him that felt exactly like his own, as though it was some kind of clone or something.

"What are you?" Zao couldn't help but tilt his head in curiousness as the clone like figure of him just smiled with the man's warm smile and spoke simply a single word back in response now, "You." Each of them swiped the fan they held and a powerful flaming phoenix like creature appeared as both men rapidly retreated allowing the two beasts to fight amongst each other as the nearby forest was quickly wiped out and set ablaze as smoke rose into the air signifying the battle that was insuring. Over an hour later, over a few square kilometers of forest area were destroyed as the bodies of various large spirits and spirit pets lay about the battlefield that was filled with numerous craters and lingering flames as a pair of exhausted looking men who bore the same appearance and aura were struggling to catch their breath stood face to face with one another.

"Hah, you can't beat yourself. You can't beat me!" The doppelganger of the Spirit Saint called out, laughing loudly as it wielded a crimson sword like before against the true Zao who defended at the moment, the powerful spirit tool was unable to even be activated as both men and their chakra pool was far too low. Attempting to activate such a powerful effect in their state would render that person at best unconscious at worst dead from the over exertion of their chakra. Suddenly the true Zao did something he never did in combat, rush head long at the clone of his drawing back the sword as the clone itself seemed almost confused but after a moment hesitation it also charged planning to deliver the last blow. Both swords stabbed forth and both men were pierced through by the long swords with the crimson hue blades, only the one from Zao was driven straight through the clone's heart while the one that struck him had been diverted by the prosthetic arm off into his shoulder. "Only by becoming stronger than I was a few moments ago, can I truly defeat myself..."
