The door of Seiji's bedroom slammed shut. Bang! Seiji stomed around his room, pacing back and forth. "You won't get away with this!" Mina cried out. Seiji's mother was seriously concerned for her son. He had been taking on more dangerous meetings every day. With Iwagakure occupying the village, there were lots of tasks sent forth by the Tsuchikage.
I wasn't his fault, Seiji couldn't help but get caught up in work. He was a people pleaser and when someone asked him for help, well, usually he offered. But he couldn't tell his mom that now She had just gave him a reeming for signing up for a C-Rank mission. It was a good paying mission, but there were spirits lurking the caves where he was set to venture. Mina worried her boy wasn't ready for spirits.
"You don't know what those monsters are like, Seiji!" She screamed, tears running down her eyes. Her green make-up was smearing.
Seiji didn't care about her make-up, he had his arms crossed and stood firm. He was going on this mission, even if it killed him. The duties of a Shinobi were not ones to be taken lightly, and when duty called to you, well, a good Shinobi answered. Seiji considered himself to be one of those Shinobi. He was going. "You can't change my mind. Besides, I'm ready." He brushed his porcelain white hair back with his red finger nails. Seiji didn't know it, but he would surely be eating those words.
Fast forward to present time, Seiji had managed to get out on time for the mission. His mother tried to postpone his leaving, she went to every measure, but it wasn't enough. The green lipped ninja was going to test his mettle. He thought he was ready.
Seiji embarked on the journey with his team. The group consisted of a clanless Shinobi and a Naegi. Seiji didn't know either of them because they were a rank above him, but he was excited to work with them. Lately he had really been kicking ass, and it seemed like he was being recognized for it. Working with a rank ahead of you was a big deal.
With his heart fearless and mind focused on spirits, Seiji walked with the group through the desert. They were going to set traps in a Suna occupied cave. Iagakure had recently taken account of the caves earnings, and found a dip since the occupation. They knew what was up, and Seiji did too. Part of the hook and pull team, so to speak, Seiji was put to laying bear claw traps in a certain sector of the mineral rich cavern. It was easy work, but the cave was infested with spirits. That's why the ave had been so rich in minerals for so long, it was hard to mine them out. But Sunagakure was strong, and the people of Wind Country depended on this cave. They had made it this far, and now it was Seiji's turn to make a dent in the daunting prospect that was civil duty. He had a smile on his face, naive and unaware.
When the group came up on the cave they immediately noticed that there was ectoplasm on the walls of the cave. The blue blood on the ground made it seem as though a vicious fight had broken out between a desert owlbear and some kind of spirit. Seiji couldn't help but get nervous. Looking at the size of the ectoplasm, it seemed the spirit had won and dragged the owlbear into the cave for a snack. Desert owlboears were no joke, Seiji was worried as he and the group of chuunins walked into the cave.
After about an hour, the group began to split off and go to where they were designated to lay traps. The clanless shinobi was the first one to head off to the east, not saying much and looking way too confident. Seiji wondere what kind of ninja these people were. He doubted he stood up to them, considering how confident and cool they both were. The next ninja, the Naegi, headed off in the opposite direction about twenty minutes later and Seiji was alone to set traps.
Traipsing nervously through the cave, Seiji couldn't help but feel a creeping sort of feeling on the nape of his neck, where a crystal was embedded. The air felt cool, and Seiji noticed that it had gotten real quiet when the Naegi girl parted ways with him. He tried not to let it get to him, he only had a twenty minute walk alone, then he had to set the traps and he could meet up with the group. It was an easy gig. "No sweat.." Seiji thought to himself and wandered deeper into the cave.
A ghoulish slime spirit was stalking him.
Once he made it to where he was set to lay the traps, Seiji pulled out a couple sealing tags. He had personally crafted the seal to this dimensional storage, Seiji knew it would work. He was slightly nervous though, he didn't want to get stuck down there alone for longer than he needed to. He threw the cardboard paper tag on the ground and formed a hand sign to KAi the seal open.
As he did so, the slime spirit bit down on his head. It had a few sharp teeth and it's mouth stunk terribly. Seiji started screaming and the slime spirit responded by finishing swallowing him hole. Now floating in the slime, Seiji was totally panicking. This was a dangerous spirit. It had snuck right up on him, it had to have crazy good stealth. It was absolutely enormous!
Holding his breath, Seiji tried to think of a plan. He could feel the spirits stomach acid beginning to dissolve his clothes, and tried to act as fast as he could. Channeling chakra into his palms, Seiji placed his hand on the wall of the spirits stomach. Crystal began spreading from his hands toward the hand. Soon there was a three foot block of crystal in the slime spirits side. It screamed in pain and stuck it's finger down it's throat, but it was too late. Seiji punched through the crystal and flipped out of the slime. He was covered in digestive juices, and he was scared to death, but he was ready to fight.
Seiji started whipping together hand seals and used his Kaenton • Scorch Style: Power Pole jutsu.A long staff formed in his hands and he was ready for a fight. Seiji plunged forward witth the pole and launched it forward. The pole stretch to reach the slime, but it simply split itself in two and dodged the attack. Sanji was dumbfounded.
The spirits quickly started charging him and Seiji had no choice but to run. "Help!" He screamed, but to no avail. The slime spirit launched into his legs and flipped him over onto the ground.
Just then, the Naegi rushed to Seiji's rescue. She charged into the walkway where Seiji was being bullrushed and launched a jishu seed.
The spirit quickly picked dit out of the sky with a slimy Boody, and then made a claw motion with it's hand. The naegi started screaming, but quickly he cries became gargled in slime. The spirit asphyxiated her with slime and Seiji saw it all. He started screaming bloody murder and there was a sudden poof. "I heard your-"[/color] The chuunin acted fast. He weaved together some hand seals and launched a giant fire ball at the slime. The fire ball was easily as big as the corridor was wide. Seiji was impressed, and he was even more thankful when the fireball toasted the slime spirit. As the spirit faded from existence, the slime spirit binding Seiji to the ground dissolved into ectoplasm. Seiji got up from the ordeal in shock.
He had never seen anyone die before. Seiji culdn't believe what had just happened. All of the training in the world couldn't prepare him for the green ooze bubbling out of the NAegi's nose. Seiji was aghast with the memory still so fresh in his mind. He fell to his knees with tears in his eyes.
Seiji was taken off duty for a few weeks after that mission. It went down as succesfull, despite Seiji not finishing he work. The superiors thought he earned a good record after what he saw.
Mina, Seiji's mother, was horrified to hear what happened. She reprimanded her son strictly. "I told you, you weren't ready for this.." She has tears in her eyes though. She felt bad for her son.
Seiji went on to get professional help, and he talked about what he saw. They explained to him that it was normal to be taken out of duty for a short time after such an event, and not to worry about it. They believed he would get back on the horse. And Seiji believed it too, at least he told himself he did.
When all was said and done, Seiji felt like he had been cheated. Out of work, out of a friend. He felt like someone had robbed him of a certain innocence that could only be known by those who hadn't dealt with death. He didn't blame himself, though he did wish that he had spent more time with the chuunin. He couldn't even remember her name despite all that happened. It was like that whole week was blurred out of Seiji's mind. He was just rushing through the motions of his days. There was no purpose, there was no guard. Seiji brought himself as he were and he worked hard, but there was something off about him. The death of that chuunin changed Seiji, and he was certain to take better care of listening to his mother.
The worst part of dealing with this death was the feeling of loneliness Seiji felt for the dearly departed. He couldn't even remember her name, and he certainly didn't have the balls to ask someone. Seiji was still just a kid, talking about deep matters like this made him nervous under normal circumstances. With such a fresh battle wound, he was certain he would be a puddle of mess at the mention of the chuunin. It was a terrible feeling, but what made it worse is the loneliness Seiji was convinced that the dead felt.
At some point in the timeline of when he lost his team mate and when he finally got home and took a shower, Seiji had the thought that maybe this person died because they wanted to. He thought, maybe this girl had given her life up because she was so lonely. He thought about all the times he could have slighted her, and at first, he blamed himself for making her feel that way. Eventually he realized that the dead simply have no feelings, but it still hurt him to imagine the loneliness of dying. Seiji was broken hearted for this girl.
As it was his first death in his life, Seiji was coming to grips with the casual reality of losing loved ones. The idea of never seeing them again really hurt. Seiji couldn't bear to lose another face in this world. When he thought of how he would feel if his mother passed, everything came crashing down for him. Seiji wasn't ready to lose his mother. He loved both of his parents equally, but his mother had always been there before him. To say he was a mother boy was an understatement. Seiji deeply respected his mother. Though, not enough to listen to her words of wisdom before this tragedy occured. He finally had something he thought he would regret. Seiji felt so defeated thinking of it that way. "I've finally lost something." He whispered to himself in the shower after the day.
When it was all said and done, in a few months, Seiji had moved past his pain. He still felt sadness for the young girl, but he knew that it was the will of the Sun for mortals to come and go. Seijei couldn't help but wonder what death would bring him, but he certainly wouldn't be ready to admit that for a few years. He never remembered the chuunin's name though.
