The two days had passed, and Kuro had done little to change his jutsu repertoire since his meeting with Shinji just a few days ago. He wanted to test the young jinch with his current skillset, before developing a specific tactic or jutsu to deal with his abilities. After all, this was just as much a test for Kuro as it was for Shinji. Kuro had always wanted to go toe to toe with a jinchuuriki, to test himself against one of the legendary beasts. And he was eager to see how this boy would perform...

He stood on the near barren island, a small 90 meter diameter rise in the ocean current with only a few trees and a couple large rocks dotting it's otherwise flat landscape. Currently, his was the only dingy on the island, and he had purposely showed up an hour earlier than he told Shinji to show up. Part of him wondered how early, if early at all, Shinji would show up...

Or maybe he was already here? With that genma of his, who knew...

For such a short time the young Jinchurriki had trained extensively. Yet he knew he was still well under par compared to those of his rank when it came to ninjutsu and genjutsu. Certainly, Kuro would exploit such shortcomings, but he didn’t have time to completely overcome such staggering deficits. Instead, he did the only thing he could, further hone his strengths so that in regard to taijutsu he could be prepared to at least stand a chance against the Jounin. There was also his trump card of course, he had purposively withheld any use of Kaerujutsu when Kuro had observed him sparring so anything he displayed today could better serve to catch his opponent off guard.

Shinji had scouted the island beforehand and knew that there was little room for stealth on such a barren battleground, at least ordinarily. For shinobi of his skill set and likely Kuro’s as well there was always opportunity. Having only slept a few hours a night, training as much as his body would allow Shinjiro tapered off his grueling sessions in the waning hours of the previous night, taking the time to have his muscles properly tended to and rested for the trials to come. Nerves were not a sensation that plagued him, he could sleep practically on demand, at any time of day or night and in impossibly uncomfortable positions if need be as well as operate for over 24 hours without rest if required. It had all been a part of his training as a shinobi of the Karagata family.

Waking as he would for any other mission the young assassin had geared up and arrived at the island half an hour earlier than instructed. His intuition told him that Kuro would also arrive early, how much so was hard to say but there was no sense wasting too much precious time that could be spent training or resting, just enough to properly observe Kuro and adjust strategy if need be should there be some unforeseen circumstance. Naturally, Shinjiro would not arrive by any means that would be easy to detect. He had forgone a boat or even his own body, taking on the form of a fly, next to impossible to pick up on even for an elite Jounin. In the dim light of the early dawn, he would land on one of the large rocks, about 15 meters from Kurou, roughly to the side of him. After all, it would be foolish to approach from directly in front and he would surely be focusing his senses most heavily directly behind him and on 45-degree angles, the typical blind spots.

Observing the young Jounin for 25 minutes Shinjiro watched the man through multi-lensed eyes and seeing no sign of impatience or weakness decided it was as good a time as any to make his presence known. The slightest flicker of green chakra moved across the fly’s body and suddenly Shinjiro would seem to appear out of thin air, sitting atop the boulder and stretching as if waking from a long nap. “Well I suppose it’s about time then” he noted nonchalantly as he approached the man, circling slightly until Kuro turned to face him square on. A faint green aura emanated from the young Chunin and his hair had grown significantly longer, his hair twisted into long braids that rested atop the dual katana sheaths across his back. He was sure that Kuro would have understood what he had done, there was even a remote chance he had been at least vaguely aware of his presence beforehand. “Decided to take your advice…on both counts” he said, withdrawing the Jounin’s file, bound together firmly by a paperclip. He tossed the manila folder towards the black-clad shinobi. Just as he had been challenged he hadn’t actually read any of it, just proven that he could, even using Kuro’s suggestion of being a ‘fly on the wall’ to do so.
