So Much for a Punching Bag

Post by Sanjuro » Sat Dec 15, 2018 1:53 am

Hideki stood facing his opponent, spinning a senbon casually around his fingers. "Well aren't you a deceptive little cretin?" There was a haze of chakra around the man as he evaluated his prey, surprised to find that the child was well beyond what he had expected in terms of capability. "Still, this should prove to be interesting. I was expecting a punching bag to answer my call for sparring partners, but I suppose keeping things interesting should suffice."

He had intended to use whoever showed up to practice new techniques with little effort but perhaps having to actually work for once would make him appreciate the style all the more.

"So, shall we begin?"

Lifting his arm, the senbon disappeared from his fingers in a flash of chakra and was suddenly fired from his sleeve at Shio, bypassing any foreplay and getting straight into the sparring match. It wasn't aimed anywhere in particular just something to get Shio moving and for Hideki to see is his reading of the child's chakra was accurate. The more the boy moved, the more Hideki would be able to observe him. A stationary target was easy enough to strike at pressure points but knowing exactly where the nerves clustered would be and how they shifted while in movement was what he was attempting to achieve here.

[Chakra Read • Evaluation]
A-Rank Ninjutsu
By studying an individual chakra source within his range, Hideki is capable of breaking down and studying everything about the signature. The range at which he can study the chakra signature is determined by which Senses technique he applies at the time. As the body develops both physically and mentally, so does ones chakra signature. Hideki can read these signatures and determine the target's Control, Stamina, Speed, and Strength stats. If the target is a chakra signature Hideki has previously recorded, that information is added to that signature's 'profile'.

After channelling chakra into his wrist-mounted launcher and into senbon or vials held on his person, Hideki can summon the item into the device, resetting the firing mechanism and preparing it for another volley. This can only reload the weapon once per use.

So Much for a Punching Bag

[Mod Note: I'm training speed, italics will be the portions I consider training]

Hirohito, Hideki was his opponent. Shio knew the name. Everyone did. Hirohito were notoriously subversive and avoided the spotlight, but when you were as powerful and important as Hideki, those qualities tend to fall to the wayside. He hadn't really expected to be chosen but he was, apparently due to a lack of opposition. Hideki recognized Shio's strength though, it appeared, which made Shio let off a small smile. He had been told to focus on getting faster, and that he should look at fighting Hideki as an opportunity to learn about evasion, both through observation and action.

Hideki asked if they should begin, and before Shio could even nod in response, Hideki had launched a senbon at him. He blinked. They had about 10m between them, a decent amount of space for a spar. The senbon seemed lazily aimed. Shio kicked off his foot, thinking about the energy he was sending into his feet. Speed was in part, about energy conservation. If he could use less energy, he could rebound faster, and thus, move faster. Having pushed off the ground, he tossed his body to the left, moving inwards slightly to maintain the 10meter radius.

While doing so, he began to seal. He ran to the right, trying to push himself to full speed while sealing. It slowed the hand sealing process, and he could tell he wasn't running at full speed. Especially while trying to keep his eyes on Hideki for Hideki's next move. But he needed to act.
As he finished the seals, he kicked off his right foot as it planted into the ground, pushing himself further away from Hideki as he opened his mouth,

"READY"

If this world has planes, the sound would have been comparable to a jet engine taking off. His voice wasn't just deep, it was loud, the words barely able to be understood through the monstrous rumble that tore through the area. Even worse, to Hideki it would sound like it had been said directly into his ear. Additionally, this had just turned Hideki into a character, which Shio immediately used to target him for his jutsu.

Under his breath, he murmured, a whisper in Hideki's ear and nothing more. 'Many talk about how sad of a life Hideki, Hirohito lives alone...', would this have any merit?

Doing a series of hand seals, and focusing on any number of [Characters], Shio will narrate over the course of 4 posts, describing a character entering a depression after the loss of a loved one. The mention of the love one will call to the mind of the [Character] someone they love. As Shio narrates, he will explain how life seems more dismal, causing colors the targets see to dampen, and their clothes to feel heavier. Additionally, the [Character] will feel tinges of depression and sadness that get stronger with weaker will.

Hideki winced, gritting his teeth and fighting to keep from clapping his hands to his ears, at the unexpected volume when Shio finally spoke, not expecting the discordant roar of sound to come from such a small child. It most definitely piqued his interest in the boy though and a smirk slowly crossed his face. Flaring his chakra, summoning another round of needles to his launcher, he prepared for the rest of the sparring match. Shifting his attention back to Shio's movements, he was impressed yet unsurprised that his read of the child's chakra had been accurate, and he proved to be far faster than any ten year old had any right to be. It made it interesting, seeking out the individual points on his childish frame, where he could discernibly do the most damage with the least effort. It was a smaller frame than he was used to working with and one in much faster motion. Still, he started to categorize the different areas he could attack.

The femoral nerve, inner thigh, moving at high speed on small frame, difficult but possible with proper timing. Peroneal nerve, outer thigh, easier to hit but slightly less effective, would serve to slow down his victim. The dorsal digital nerve, top of the foot close to toes, very difficult to hit at speed, would cripple the use of toes for fast movement. All would serve to slow Shio to a more manageable speed.

As he looked for each point on Shio's leg that he could use to cripple the boy, he could almost see the nerve clusters, the long lines connecting them, seeing how they interacted with the surrounding muscles and could picture exactly how they would react were he to strike them with his needles.

Lifting his arm to fire once more a sudden wave of… something came over him. He could hear Shio's voice right next to his ear despite the fact he could clearly see him running across the room and his smile grew even more bloodthirsty and the thought of testing the limits of the child's unique ability. But it was far too obvious. Hideki, who had perfect control of his emotions, knew when he was being forced to feel something. "A clever trick, and I do love your voice. I'd love to see how it has affected your vocal chords, if at all." Even as he spoke he was suppressing his chakra for the briefest of instants, interrupting the flow enough to break the Genjutsu, lifintg his arm and firing another volley of needles at Shio.

So Much for a Punching Bag

Shio's face revealed his frustration as the man clearly saw through his genjutsu and shook it off with relative ease. Frustrating. He figured he wouldn't be able to use genjutsu very effectively on this man, but it was worth a try. That meant he'd have to lean a lot more on taijutsu. Something he was not only uncomfortable with, but confident that the bannin would be able to to stand on par with him in. He made a mental note, stronger opponents would need stronger, more immediate genjutsu. The small tricks he was used to now wouldn't be effective.

Pushing his heel into the ground, Shio instead elected to focus his energy on closing the distance between the two of them. He thought maybe he could wear Hideki down from a distance, but that was unfortunately, not an option. The needles flew forward and Shio let off on his speed just a little, attempting to duck and weave around them. The first aimed at his leg as he dipped out of its trajectory, the second at his neck. He tried to turn his head to dodge it, the needle instead grazing his cheek. The third he side stepped, and off his foot, continued rocketing forward at the bannin.

As the distance closed he put all his effort into his speed, kicking off his foot one final time and propelling his body into the air, hoping to tackle Hideki and land on top of him. If successful, he'd been in a powerful position over the bannin.

So Much for a Punching Bag

He saw the shift in attitude in the same instant it occurred, Shio's centre of gravity changing, his steps becoming heavier, and as his body turned to face Hideki instead of running around him it revealed a whole new set of pressure points he could target. The scientist immediately started backstepping. It wasn't that Shio was faster than Hideki, it was that he had the lower body strength to immediately close the distance before Hideki could build up speed. To slow him down Hideki would put some his observations into practice. He lifted his arm and funnelled chakra into his launcher, summoning yet another set of needles, aiming at the brachial plexus. If it struck it would deaden Shio's arm, preventing it from use in close quarters combat and potentially throw off his balance. The use of the arms in high speed movement was almost as key as the legs. *

Stepping off his back heel, Hideki clicked his feet together in the air, activating the fuuinjutsu on his shoes, putting him at an immediate height advantage over Shio as he was suddenly held aloft in the air instead of back along the ground. "Far more powerful than his size and age would suggest. A unique mutation to the vocal chords. Capacity for utilizing Genjutsu without the need for hand seals. Fascinating." Lifting his launcher, he fired off a few errant shots as he decided how best to handle such a unique specimen.

[Flight Projection Shoes]
A feat of Fūinjutsu engineering, Hideki has manufactured shoes with seals built into them which project small barriers under his feet when activated. The barriers are stationary once created, allowing Hideki to effectively stand in mid-air. By channelling chakra into a secondary seal, the shoes fire a continual blast of chakra which propels Hideki through the air at a Speed of 25 so long as it isn't higher than his natural Speed. Use of the hovering barriers requires very little effort on Hideki's part, capable of being activated with Chakra Kai and lasting 10 posts per use. The use of the flight function however drains Hideki of 1 Stamina every 3 posts, beginning on the first post.

[Mental Arts • Martial Analysis]
B-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: 30 Instinct
With his skills in perception, Hideki can quickly judge the particulars of an incoming attack. Efficient defence depends on observing and responding, and Hideki is able to tell the speed at which an object is traveling, the distance between himself and the object, and how much damage it is likely to do with its current velocity. This can even be used on close range attacks such as sword swings or punches.
