[Graded]Darkness in a Cold Heart

Post by MedeaMoirae » Thu Jan 17, 2013 6:05 pm

Naoko sat at the bar, already at least three drinks in. Things had been so perfect with Yukio, part of her couldn't believe what was happening, that things were going so wrong. The other part of her was scolding herself. Nothing is ever perfect, things always go wrong, things always change. A ninja should keep her heart locked away, and never allow it to stray from its cage.

She downed the shochu and tea mixture she'd been drinking, turning the glass upside down and slamming it on the bar. She didn't even have to get the bartender's attention. He came over and placed another in front of her. She didn't even sip on it gingerly this time, she took a large swig, her eyes focused on the wall ahead of her.

She could hear a scuffle going on in the background, but she didn't much care, in fact, part of her wished she'd get pulled into the fight, she could use the stress relief. But she couldn't shake the events of the day. She'd received an urgent message from Kaori, Yukio's daughter, and raced to the hospital to find out what was going on.

The cold that had been slowly taking over Yukio's body had taken its toll, he was in a coma, and the doctors and medics had no idea what to do, most of them told her to hold no hope, that there was no way he was going to wake up any time soon.

Within minutes she finished off the shochu and did the same as before, turning the empty glass upside down and slamming it down. The bartender was scrambling to get her another.

[Graded]Darkness in a Cold Heart

It had been a long day of errands, business, and training. Shiv wanted to release some tension that had been building up. Tonight was the perfect night for a drink and maybe, just maybe, a scuffle with the filth that call this part of the village home. But to be fair this part of town wasn’t home to only filth and scum, there was a few good and honest people still dwelling here because they had nowhere else to go. On more than one occasion Shiv had been lucky enough to cross paths with these hard working individuals. These individuals woke up each day early to find work doing odd jobs in the slums or to make a bit of money collecting and cleaning the previous nights deceased off the streets. They were the ones that kept the slums from looking like a third world neighborhood.

The scent of blood filled the air; blood had already been shed this night. It seemed as if this was the only part of the village where old Kirigakure could still prominently be seen. If you went to any other part of the village, you would see that it had gradually adapted and changed to how the new regime envisioned it to be. If anything, in the eyes of Shiv, the outer rings and the slums felt more like Kirigakure then the inner part of the village. Maybe one day things would change back to the old days, but tonight and most definitely tomorrow the old veterans, mercenaries, and muscle had to come all the way out here to enjoy a stiff drink.

Shiv continued walking toward the most well known bar in Kirigakure; The Bloodriver. After a moment he started coughing, it was a hoarse cough, unhealthy sounding. Shiv took another moment to regain his composure; this cough seemed to always come back. It never left his side like a faithful wife. He kept moving though ignoring the whole incident. He had walked this dark and dreary street a thousand times now and each time it got reeling for a challenge.

Upon reaching the door, he slowly swung it open, allowing for himself a moment to take in the people within the bar. You had your usual beggar filth that used every coin they could get a hold of for drink, then you had your hardened muscle, then your whores, but the thing that stood out tonight was a person he had seen before. Naoko. One in which he had at one time almost fell for. Why was she here he asked himself. Maybe things with her new lover weren’t going so well. Word had reached his ears of the relationship that had developed between the boy known as Yukio and the woman before him. The news cut deep, but time had already mended the wound somewhat.

Shiv cautiously walked into the bar, making sure to watch his corners. He had enemies in the area that wanted their money back and such. No need for a death match to break out; just a small scuffle. His fist tightened just in case he was jumped. Every time he walked in here he ended up walking out with some trouble. It was usually hilarious, but today he felt obligated to talk with the one before him. He eventually made his way toward Naoko, who had been sucking on what looked to be alcoholic tea. His face didn’t react but he irked inside about that, alcoholic tea, really? Why does everything have to be tea he thought to himself, before saying in an icy cold tone, “Naoko, what brings you here tonight?”

When she turned to see him, she would notice he was wearing his standard attire without his helmet. His shemagh was tightly wrapped around his face keeping his facial expressions hidden like usual. After a moment he also added in, “Mind if I take a seat? You’re much nicer company than the filth in here.”

Naoko turned and glanced at him, but as her eyes alighted on Shiv, she downed her sixth drink, turning the cup upside down and slamming it into the counter. The bartender rushed over and set another in front of her. She turned her eyes forward again, running a finger around the rim of the glass in front of her. "This will be my seventh... I can't guarantee I'm much better company than anyone." she said coldly. Her own tone was possibly colder than Shiv's, something that hadn't been seen or heard since before her and Yukio, before even the short time that had been her and Shiv. She stared down at the drink a moment before taking a nice long swig. "Yukio fell into a coma early this morning." she told Shiv simply.

Naoko was getting well into her drinking, something she usually avoided for good reason. She was a kiri ninja after all, and like any kiri ninja she liked a good fight like any other, especially after a few drinks. After all, this was the entire point of drinking here, to get drunk enough to pick a good fight.

[Graded]Darkness in a Cold Heart

Everything around them was hectic, from the scuffle that had just ended to the people swearing and arguing over a card game. This place was exactly the place one came to get away from the day to day problems and find new more interesting ones. Shiv watched as the bartender served another drink to the woman before him, this place didn't have a limit, profit was profit, no matter the damage, the place already looked like a shit hole anyway. His eyebrow raised when he realized just how different she was right now compared to her usual self. Icy and cold, just the way he liked his woman. Actually if he wanted to he could probably make a few coins off a bet that the woman before him would get into a fight tonight, be it with him or some of the local filth. Oh how he missed her, since then though he had killed his emotions again. It was stupid to let a woman get in the way of his ideals, if the relationship had continued he would have been exactly like those pussies from the inner city. Maybe even crawling on all fours. Shiv was amused internally, but made sure to keep this amusement to himself.

When Naoko said, "This will be my seventh... I can't guarantee I'm much better company than anyone.", Shiv made sure to cut in right in an icy tone, "Company none the less..." Sure the coldness in his voice was lesser in extent to that of Naoko, but there was probably reason for that. Naoko must be going through something, because Shiv didn't take her for an alcoholic or big drinker.

Naoko's next comment revealed her current state. Shiv slightly paused for a moment before sitting down next to Naoko, his head then turned toward the bar and the lingering drinks above. Ahh yes, his eyes found his favorite. A bottle of seven year old aged rum, he wondered for a moment why this place would even have such a thing considering it was not at the least a place of class. But with all things trivial, he simply let it go before coughing slightly. Just as hoarse as before but not as long as when he was walking in the street. His hand quickly moved to his face to push on the shemagh to get a hold of himself.

Shiv's eyes searched for the bar tender now. Finally finding the man, Shiv quickly motioned him over. It would take a dew seconds for the man to come. Shiv's attention now went back toward Naoko. What could he say, this was Kirigakure. Shit happens. Shiv lifted a hand and used his index finger and his thumb to go along his eyes before pulling down, clearing them while trying to think. Death and loss was common for him, but the man she loved was still alive. In any case he didn't know what to say, he usually treated these things as a number. Sure it could be said that by doing that one becomes unsensitized to the people around them, but in the life of a ninja death is all to common to care about each individual.

Shiv couldn't think of anything thoughtful or deep to say, so in the same cold tone he said, "I see..." after a slight moment he said, "Well let me catch up to you."

Once the bartender arrived Shiv looked the man in the eyes and said in an icy but fake friendly tone, "That bottle up, I want the whole thing, I don't care about the price." The bartender looked and was shocked a customer even asked for it. He then moved to grab the bottle knowing the risk of not doing what a ninja asked. The seconds passed like hours, the tension between the two was awkward to say the least. Once the bottle was before him, he motioned the toward the money before him, a generous tip was also included. Popping open the bottle he lifted toward his mouth and using the top of the bottle lifted the shemagh up and became to drink the rum as if it was refreshing water. The gentle and warm feeling one feels when drinking a stiff drink filled his insides.

Shiv put the bottle down having drank a decent portion. His eyes shifted to his left on that of Naoko. It was odd that only like a month ago she was his. He would have done anything for her. What had happened had cut deep, he hadn't told anyone, neither would he. It was now forever sealed within his vault of things that became far too human for him. He had to offer at least, out of respect for her. With a furrow brow Shiv then said coldly but with a hint of sympathy, "Want to talk about it..." He said it more like a statement then a question. Knowing that she probably wouldn't want to go into the whole thing, especially here of all places.

Naoko shook her head. "No, not really." she told him.

As she stood there in silence, finishing off her next drink she heard and felt something that pissed her off. A man, one of those who had been betting on the last fight, walked up behind her and grabbed a handful of her backside. What exactly he said, Naoko didn't hear, and she didn't really care.

The first indication of real trouble was the smirk that crossed Naoko's face.

The second indication was when Naoko turned around and smiled up at the man, a smile that was all too kind, and never reached her eyes. It was as she turned around that she formed the proper handseals for *[Senses Open]. For a small area like this she knew she'd be relying on her skitter step more than her Eishin, there might be room to draw a sword, but she'd wind up stabbing some innocent bystander with it.

It was in that moment of silence, when the stranger thought he was about to get lucky, that Naoko's sweet smile twisted and turned into something cruel. In a quick movement she brought her right leg up and kicked forward, right into the man's groin.

She reached down as he doubled over in front of her, placing the palm of her hand on his forehead, and giving him a push with most of her strength. The man fell backwards, still doubled over.
Jutsu UsedShow
*[Senses Open]
C Rank Ninjutsu
The main jutsu of the Skitter Step, Senses Open does exactly what the name states. The user's senses are magnified by a great degree and they are constantly looking around, gaining sensory information. Their personality will slightly change to a "defeat or be defeated" mentality. Also, a user in this state will be easy to see that they are in it since they are constantly acting paranoid by looking around, zoning in on about anything. Though, throughout the time, the ninja tends to attack purely based on instinct, rather than planning anything out, which effectively increases their speed and taijutsu by 1 and decreases their wit by 2. To activate it, the user must do a handseal, flooding chakra to their brain to 'unlock' their senses. Once activated, this lasts until they deactivate it with *Stop or until they are out of battle.

*[Snap Kick]
C Rank Taijutsu
The user performs a quick snap kick forwards, or, if needed, a snap kick to either side by bringing their leg up and kicking outwards. If "Senses Open" was previously used, the user is able to quickly and instinctively kick out in about any direction and even able to do a turn on their heel, then kick what was behind them.

[Graded]Darkness in a Cold Heart

When the incident happened it occurred too quickly to do anything, well neither did he want to stop Naoko from doing what she wished. The pain she was feeling right now was like no other probably, considering the boy she found seemed to be a real keeper from what he had heard of him. Sure he would have dealt justice were justice was due, but she was in the mood to hand out her own justice tonight. Shiv swiveled around on the stool that he had sat on, making sure to take another hefty swig of his drink, from what just happened he knew his drink might not make it through the night. The warm feeling filled him up again, while his hand moved for his machete. There was a benefit to having a machete especially in these type of situations where a sword would be far too long to use properly.

His hand gently fell on the handle of his machete, while he looked over anyone drunk and stupid enough to come at the duo. For some reason the noise just fell silent, even his enemies looked toward the two ninja. With the tension high, there was only one thing to do. Have some fun, Naoko needed it. The odds weren't looking good for his drink though, some of these guys were on the same level as both Shiv and Naoko. it would be difficult trying to keep his bottle from being wasted or destroyed by the ensuing chaos that was about to occur. A fox like smile crossed his face, raising his eyebrows cockily toward the people he owed money. "Come and collect..." he said bluntly. After which he made sure to take another huge swig of his drink, who knew, his new bottle buddy might just die tonight, even if he was only half full now. Or was it half empty?

The guys Shiv owed money too weren't the best people to mess with, luckily enough these were only some low level guys in the chain of villainous scum he had made previous pacts with. They came racing forward out of stupidity or because they had drank far too much. No need to kill these men though, even if they were scum, Shiv was still a man of the night guard. He had a bit of an obligation to keep his actions in check. So taking a previous que from Naoko, he would use the blunt side of his machete.

Odd you never notice the weird and exotic weapons people carry until they come at you to kill you. Scythes, sickles, staffs, spears, all too unwieldy in a close quarter place like this. They were due for some hurt. It wasn't surprising that on the other spectrum the buddies of the guy that just lost his balls were also coming at the duo. In all honestly Shiv couldn't ask for a better night, it had been too long since he had stretched his rusty body. It felt good to fight alongside Naoko, probably the because his old feelings were trying to force themselves out of the vault he had locked them in.

The men to the left attacked Shiv without any heed for their own lives. Shiv being skilled on his feet yet a bit tipsy now easily dodged the incoming spear thrust without too much effort. Lifting his drink up to his face again to take yet another grand swig. The rum rolled down his lips and collected into his shemagh. It was then when his bottle came down did he react, the speed at which these lowly grunts couldn't handle. It only took a few precise blows to knock out the lot of them, using his machete only to balance his tipsy body so that he didn't fall to the ground or anything.

Naoko stepped over the man she had pushed over, where two of his friends stood. They both took steps back, all three of them having been newly promoted chunin who were simply here to celebrate before their friend had gone too far. None of them had what it took to face a Jounin of Naoko's strength and abilities.

Yet as the two took steps back, their friend with the rather sore nether regions had a stupid moment. He drew a kunai from a pouch on his thigh and moved to stab Naoko in the back. Ordinarily Naoko would've been able to dodge it, especially with the *[Senses Open] technique activated. However being as drunk as she was, created a problem.

Naoko spun around and threw her arm up in front of her. She wasn't fast enough to take it from him, but being stabbed in the forearm was better than being stabbed in the back. As the blade sunk into her arm, she drew back her other hand, balling it into a fist and slamming it into the neck of her attacker.

The man crumpled to the ground again, and Naoko grabbed a fistful of his hair with her uninjured arm. "You're a special kind of stupid aren't you." she commented.

Well that could have went better, is the only thing that Shiv could think of when he saw what had happened to his accomplice in this troublesome situation. If anything she looked about ready to kill the men before her. Sure killing mercenaries or some of the common rabble is alright on occasion, but fellow soldiers. Yeah that was shunned upon in Kirigakure. Even back in the day, unless they deserved it or were weak enough to actually fall victim to another comrade looking to gain prestige in the military. Seven swordsman logic, quite interesting to say the least, too bad they were currently plagued by a lack of membership. Only the strong could make it into that group.

Shiv allowed for his face to twist at the look of the wound, a second later he took yet another giant swig of his bottle. The nice blend of honey, vanilla, and whatever else was concocted into the aged rum was exhilarating. The special blend demanded respect, so he allowed himself a moment to relish in the taste before lifting the bottle before him. The bottle was pretty much empty anyway. Suddenly with a heavy sigh he threw the bottle skillfully toward the man Naoko was about to kill or whatever. The bottle hit so hard it probably knocked the man out. No need for needless bloodshed he reminded himself. Naoko was not herself tonight, luckily he remembered where she lived. Actually it wasn't lucky, he made sure to walk by it each time he had to head into the core to do paper work. Always in a discreet manner that is, didn't want her thinking he was a stalker or anything. She was just the first person he actually fell head over heels in love over.

This might take a bit of finesse, since Naoko was so terribly strong. Physically that is. Using his speed he rushed to the side of Naoko and gently placed his hand upon her arm and looked her in the eye. The look Shiv gave her was intense, hopefully she got the message and willingly decided to start being a good girl again. In that second he attempted to throw her over his shoulder, hopefully the look he gave her would get through the haze she was in from her rage and drunken state.

If she allowed him to throw her over his shoulder he would then quickly disappear in an instant with the use of the shuunshin technique. The two of them would then be outside of the tavern, upon the roof of the building next to it. Shiv would then say in a joking yet cold voice, "So does somebody need a spanking?" After that he would then gently place her down and inspect the wound she had received tonight.

Naoko didn't say a word. She returned his look with an even and simple look of her own, with nothing behind it. She didn't struggle when he picked her up, even just went limp and allowed herself to be carried. When he sat her down, she sat on the room, holding her arm in front of her, looking at it. She could've healed it herself probably, but she didn't feel like it, she was almost enjoying the pain. "I thought about driving a kunai into his neck. Let the blood splash on him... the warmth of it might've been comforting."

Her eyes were almost glazed over as she stared at nothing, unfocused, though her eyes appeared to be staring at the wound. Her mind wandered to Yukio once more, to the cold, to how his body temperature had been dropping, to the coma it had caused, the coma he sat in now. "I despise the cold." she muttered.

[Graded]Darkness in a Cold Heart

Walking to the edge of the roof and looking down Shiv reluctantly allowed Naoko to have a moment to herself while he made sure nobody was pursuing them. Luckily enough nobody seemed to be following, which was good since Naoko needed the time to get her head straight. This wasn't the way Shiv wanted to spend a night, but he would gladly waste a good night for a comrade such as Naoko. He turned now and looked upon Naoko. Fucking ehh... what a mess... can I even help...

"Sure, but then again the coldness of a cell would have been discomforting", Shiv said plainly. He then immediately lowered down in front of Naoko taking up a squatting position while his arms rested upon his knees. It was then that he cautiously inspected the wound from a far, making sure that it wasn't too bad. From her expression he knew that she wasn't in the mood for any bullshit tonight, nor did she care about the physical pain from a wound such as the one inflicted by that kunai. The pain associated with loss was much more complicated than that of physical pain. It looked like she was going through the classic response. The way in which she was responding to it though was an option that was all too familiar to Shiv. The hardened forces of Kirigakure usually never shed tears or broke down completely. It was always this coldness, this detachment from the world that ended up happening.

"Yeah the cold is pretty awkward at times...", was the only thing he could muster to say.

Shiv genuinely wanted to help, but he didn't know how, nor did he think he could in this situation. In essence time was the only thing that could heal a wound such as this, even then it could be sketchy. At the moment though Naoko needed a guardian per say. She was being reckless, nothing good ever came out of drinking while also feeling the pain of loss. Only more pain or even regret. After a moment he said in a much more understanding tone than previously, "Alright let me get you home."

Naoko pulled off her cloak and ripped a couple of strips of cloth off of it. One would think she was thinking clearly, but what she was about to do could also be construed as incredibly stupid. She yanked the kunai from her arm and tossed it aside, hardly blinking at the rush of pain and the blood that was dripping from her arm onto the roof. She took the strips of cloth she had pulled from her cloak and wrapped them around the wound, to slow the bleeding until she got home, she could do some healing jutsu on herself when she got there.

"Yeah.... Home sounds okay." she said quietly.

Shiv brought his hand up to his face, placing it there for a second while watching Naoko perform a small yet irrational fix to her wound. After a moment of gazing at the woman he pulled the top portion of his shemagh down. The light from the moon shun on his head revealing his short military fashioned hair. One of his eye brows lifted at the sight of her act of pulling out the blade. Well that could have been handled better to say the least... He spoke up now saying, "To home then."

Shiv lifted his arm off of his knee and moved it toward her untouched arm. After which, he gently grabbed it and began to stand up slowly motioning her to follow him. This time at least he would allow her to at least be comfortable by allowing her to ride on his back. Hopefully she came without a fight or anything, mind tend to wander when influenced by alcohol. The only thing he could do was at least make his eyes more gentle and welcoming, this wasn't the time to have a icy cold demeanor. So in essence he faked that he actually had emotions.

Naoko sighed. Between the blood loss and the alcohol the tiredness started to affect her. She allowed Shiv to pick her up on his back, resting her forehead against his shoulder and wrapping her arms around his neck. She was losing site of why she'd been so angry, though the sorrow lingered.

She felt as if it was all falling apart, knowing by morning she'd be the cold collected Sensai who needed to stop by and visit with her Genin for another heart to heart that she didn't have the heart for.

[Graded]Darkness in a Cold Heart

It didn't take long to reach the inner part of the village, nor did it take too long to reach the neighborhood in which Naoko was permanently situated. Along the way though Shiv did note that there were a few fresh bodies laying in the slums that definitely needed to be cleaned up in the morning. Victims of the night one would say. Only in Kirigakure would one find this kind of phenomenon. These murders hardly if ever received a proper investigation being so common place in the slums. This spartan like atmosphere allowed for the strong to thrive and weak to be forgotten, something that kept the people of water country strong and emotionless.

It would have been almost a blush when Naoko rested her forehead upon his shoulder, but Shiv remained vigilant with his emotions, keeping them in check this time. Shiv then realized just how much he missed being this close to Naoko. This wasn't the time nor place for such feelings and as such they were pushed back down into the core of himself. Probably to fester like everything else he puts there. Only to bother him at a later time. It seemed like only yesterday that he was genuinely happy with this woman. Too bad things can vanish as fast as they appeared. Shiv wanted to sigh, reminiscing about old times but again stopped himself.

They finally reached the door step of the house. Shiv then gently lowered himself so that Naoko could easily dismount before standing up to look her in the eyes. He could definitely tell the irrational part of her was left behind at the bar, leaving only a shell of her former happy self. As he looked at Naoko, a small part of Shiv was glad that Yukio was in a coma, since that was the man that took away this beautiful gem. Leaving it shattered and miserable. If only he was himself and had killed him at the bar instead of running after Naoko. His mind suddenly went blank. Forcefully stopping himself from thinking like that. He was a friend, not an enemy or somebody that needed to be watched, he could be trusted to keep his shit in check. That was Shiv. A weapon, a tool, a thing to be used and at times abused by this cruel world and the people in it.

"Are you going to be ok?"
Shiv said slowly allowing for a few seconds to pass before adding, "If you'd like I can come in and make sure you get that wound fixed up. I can even stay till morning if you'd like, I've spent nights on solid rock before so the floor will be good enough for me..." His words wandered off, hanging somewhat awkwardly. It was as if he suddenly clued into his speech then and just how much emotion they conveyed. He still cared for her, even if he tried to hide those feelings. He let them hang because he didn't want to fully get back into that part of himself, all his life he lived by a code, only spending a few days with this woman had completely changed that. Which was in fact terrifying. Maybe he wasn't the weapon he thought he was, maybe he was just a useless tool thrown with the rest, nothing special, only remembered when needed.

Naoko seemed oblivious to Shiv's awkwardness, though the irony of the situation was not lost on her. Here she was, mourning a death of a lover, in a sense, he wasn't actually dead but the doctor's gave him no hope of surviving this coma. And who came to her 'rescue'? The man who had fallen for her before she met Yukio.

She still remembered the feelings she'd held for Shiv. It wasn't that it all changed when she'd met Yukio, though she was sure that was how Shiv felt about it all. Fact was, she had realized it especially during their trip to the dojo, Shiv had become less attentive. He'd listened and such, but something was lost after that trip. Part of her thought maybe she was intimidating to him. It wasn't unusual, not all men are okay with being with a woman who could easily best them in combat, but in her mind, it was something Shiv wasn't okay with, and so she had ended it, as best as she could.

She looked at her wound, and at him as she started walking towards the door, motioning for Shiv to follow her. "I'm too drunk to probably bandage this right... I could use the help." she told him. "I can make tea if you want, or I have sake here if you want it too."

It would seem that Shiv would actually be needed tonight. For some reason he got it in his head that he would be turned away, because things had become so awkward and complicated between the two. It came as a surprise to Shiv that she actually agreed to his assistance. The only hint of such were in his eyes which widened slightly when offered to come in. To be honest, this is what he wanted in a sense. It allowed him to make sure she was going to be 'ok' without him having to be worried about all the small things that could go wrong.

Those old feelings were coming back but Shiv had to make sure they were kept in check. That small unnerving feeling he had was starting to manifest itself through his body, he bite his lip hard to keep his mind focused. Shiv's eyes returned to normal now, as he lifted his head and looked at Naoko. After a slight moment he replied with, "Some sake would be nice, now let's go get this wound taken care of." After which he added in a joking tone alike that of a cowboy, "After you, ma'am"

Naoko nodded and fumbled for her keys for several moments. It took her a little bit of time but she finally got the door unlocked and stumbled her way in. She went straight for the kitchen and poured a glass of sake for Shiv before disappearing into her room.

When she came back out she had a small box with her, and set it on the breakfast bar, sitting on one of the stools. She waited for Shiv to sit with her before letting her wounded arm rest on the bar and shoving the box towards him, which was full of bandages.

Shiv just stood and watched as she fumbled around looking for her keys, it was as if he was taking pleasure in just being near her. In essence it was probably the alcohol in his system that was inducing these feelings again. Usually he could keep them maintained but after a bottle of rum things could be seen in a much different light. When Naoko finally opened the door Shiv followed cautiously, watching Naoko as she stumbled toward the kitchen. Once there she fixed him a drink of sake then left for her room. Shiv stood there and picked up the glass of sake, he lifted it to his nose and relished in the smell of it. A fine sake aroma filled his nose. He brought it down to his lips and then took a drink, allowing for it to swish around his mouth for a second before he swallowed it. The taste of it was decent, sure it wasn't wine but it was mildly comforting and flavorful. His eyes wandered around the room hesitantly scanning the house for anything new or interesting. Well nothing really seemed out of place since when he was last here.

Shiv lost himself in his thoughts now, remembering the times he was here. What did he do exactly to be pushed out of her life, was it that he was to unsociable, or was it the fact he was too uncaring. He couldn't wrap his head around what had happened to end the budding relationship they almost had. Or maybe that Yukio guy was much more caring and better then he had let on. Then again he judged everyone by their worth in combat over their other traits. It was then that Naoko returned interrupting his thoughts.

Shiv slowly moved toward the table and lifted his chair bringing it closer to Naoko before sitting down and taking a look at the box before him. Shiv looked through the box trying to find the best things to fix up this wound. After a moment he pulled out a small bottle of rubbing alcohol, gauze, and some bandages that would do well for this sort of injury. Shiv quickly opened the small bottle, while looking at the wound and arm. He then gently lifted her arm while holding the bottle in his other hand. "This will sting..." he said coldly. Suddenly he poured the alcohol upon the wound while trying to keep hold of her arm, though he might not be able to especially knowing the strength of the woman before him.

After he would quickly wrap the wound with the gauze and bandages before keeping it together with small metal hooks. This would keep it from simply falling off or becoming loose. Hopefully it lasted the night at least, in the morning she would probably do a better job. Shiv had only basic knowledge on fixing wounds and such but he could at least do a quick fix till she could deal with it at a later time.

Once done, he would look up at Naoko and smile before saying, "Well there you go, kid."

Naoko gritted her teeth against the pain, hardly making a sound. Sure, the alcohol burned like hell, but pain was something she had become accustomed to, especially in recent days. When he spoke again she frowned at the last word of the sentence. "You know, I've always hated it when you call me kid." she told him, frowning.

She looked over his handiwork and nodded in approval. "Looks good." she told him.

She stared at the wound a moment, seeming to almost frown. "I'm leaving on a new mission next week, something tells me this is the least of my worries."

In a lighthearted voice, Shiv replied with, "Well you know, you still are younger than me, ma'am."

Shiv was relived to know that his work would suffice, knowing she definitely had more experience in mending and fixing wounds then him by far. Naoko's eyes were focused on her wound when she stated her plans in the coming week. Information was lacking though to the details. Shiv's curiosity was suddenly peaked when she mentioned her new mission, his eyebrows raising in unison while he glanced over her curiously. He then inquired about said mission, seeking more information by saying, "New mission?" It took a decent amount of will power to keep from speaking with a slur, luckily both of them had enough to keep this conversation civilized in a sense, though the lines that kept sensitive topics off the table were starting to fade slightly.

Shiv's face went blank as he stared upon Naoko, though one could tell his mind was somewhere else. Well she needed to be stable before she went on a mission, especially if it was a high ranked mission. If things weren't handled well people often made mistakes, and when mistakes were made, people usually got hurt or worse. Shiv wondered now, what she was going through exactly, was Yukio going to effect her in the long term? Would the kid eventually come out of his coma? Just how much did it effect her?

Naoko shrugged. "I don't have all the details yet, I just know it's a B rank, and other ninja have taken and failed. But I need to quit wasting my time and get back to work." she said, half smirking for apparently no real reason. Some part of her almost wished she'd fail this one too, yet a ninja never wished for such things, that was the way of a coward.

She crossed her arms, careful to watch the wound. "You taking any missions any time soon?"

Shiv listened intently, too bad there wasn't much information on the upcoming mission. Discussing the details of missions was somewhat of a past time Shiv had developed over the years of being a shinobi. For him talking about work came more natural then conversing about real life things. He wasn't surprised though, missions were usually kept under wraps until a closer date, especially high ranking missions that required the skills of a Jounin. Shiv then pulled his lip down with his lower jaw in disappointment, it would have been less awkward if the two had something else to talk about beside the coma of that boy she became infatuated to. Luckily enough, his shemagh kept that little reaction hidden. That was one of the benefits in having a head piece that concealed a good portion of the face from view.

Shiv lifted an eyebrow when he noticed the smirk of the girl before him while also cutting in to say in a joking tone, "Was that a smirk. Something else you want to tell me about this mission?" He allowed for his question to hang there for a moment before adding, "Or is it that you don't actually want a mission at this time... considering the circumstances..." he said uneasily while his eyes moved to make and maintain eye contact with the woman before him. Shiv legitimately couldn't figure Naoko out tonight, leaving him slightly confused on what to say or do.

After which, she asked him a question. It was a simple and easy question. One that Shiv could definitely answer with confidence. As with the previous information given to him about her mission, he too was lacking any real information on his next mission. So far he had been doing nothing of worth, the occasional errand by high command but nothing too exciting. Hesitantly he replied, "Well I was hoping to get approved for admittance into the special forces, but one can only hope... administration stuff usually takes a bit to sort out... yadda... yadda..." His tone then changed to that of confidence as he continued, "But to answer your question, no, I actually don't know when I will be assigned a new mission. Hopefully soon before my body becomes too rusty and useless." At the end he smirked looking a bit more playful then before. That is when his eyes reached his empty cup, suddenly he looked up and said cheerfully, "Another round of sake to loosen my body and tongue a bit more? Or shall we finish the bottle? Yeah the bottle, that would really loosen me up, you could probably interrogate me and get some secrets out of me if you truly wanted to." The last part was a joke, but to secure that it was he also added, "You may even get to see me without my mask, only a select few have seen my beautiful mug... fewer if you count the ones still living..." At that moment he let out a small chuckle and flashed his razor sharp teeth in a wide smile.

"Honestly I'm happy for a mission right now, I need a distraction."

Naoko chuckled when he mentioned the possibility of seeing him without his mask and she chuckled. "I've seen you without it before." she said, getting up and going to get the bottle of sake, setting it next to Shiv. Truthfully some of those memories still ate at her a bit. She'd hated the way it ended, but she'd been happier with Yukio right? Though right now that could be questioned as well.

The alcohol in her system had her wanting something else, but she wouldn't pursue it, especially not from Shiv. If anything happened between the two of them and she disappeared again, it'd kill him. She could already see how much he was locking himself away from the world again, much like she was. She didn't want to see him completely bury himself.

"I keep hoping this mission will be a challenge, but I know my death is very possible as well. Other ninja have already been killed."

Shiv gave Naoko an understanding look as she finished replying to him. She did need the distraction, something to get her mind off the whole situation. He lifted his hand to his head now to clean his eyes. Once done his blinking eyes fell upon Naoko, emphasis was added now, he had not been looking at her with that sort of eyes until now. It was as if his eyes were laced with passion as he looked over Naoko and her barely there attire. It was a natural reaction one could say especially when one had been drinking all night allowing for the chains of doubt to be broken.

After that Shiv's eyebrows lifted in wonder at the next thing she said while silently following her as she went to grab the bottle of sake. When did she see him without his mask? Bear Country? Did I actually take it off that night? I thought I put a shemagh on after taking off my helmet.

When she turned back Shiv made sure to not make it obvious that he had been watching her by pretending to take interest in something else in the room. When the bottle was placed before him, his hand instinctively went toward it to fill his glass. After he had filled his cup he looked toward Naoko and said, "Done, ehh" It basically sounded like a question, but more of an observation then anything. Shiv then picked up his glass and drank the whole thing in one foul drink. That warm feeling filled his body now.

Looks like she might be done... must be at that good point now, if she continued she may turn to that dreaded puking stage.

"Death..." Shiv said slowly before continuing, "I believe in you Naoko..." His words seemed to fade as his eyes moved to look Naoko in the eyes. Then in a caring voice he said, "You better come back alive..." Making sure this didn't get too awkward and realizing he had called her by her name, he quickly added, "..kid" Right then a big grin spread across his face as a devilish idea filled his head, if it were not for the seriousness of what had happened with Yukio he would have acted upon it instantly. Instead he simply allowed for her to reply before he continued to do anything.

"Having been trained to follow orders and accomplish any task given to him, Shiv has become a desensitized killer with an elitist attitude, being utterly rude to those that he deems lesser than himself. This can be seen through his interaction with people as he is quite the remorseless and sarcastic individual. His disregard for those around him can be seen through his logic of comparing people to weapons. He is professional, calculating, and ambitious by nature, with his professional side only being shown when dealing with those that he deems worthy of his respect."

[Graded]Darkness in a Cold Heart

Naoko wrinkled her nose at him. "I really wish you'd stop calling me kid." she told him. "And yeah, I'm done, if I have much this is gonna go horribly wrong."

She had noted his change in tone, but unlike before it didn't really inspire any feelings within her. She'd convinced herself that he didn't have those feelings for her really, and frankly she wasn't sure if she wanted to come back alive either. "I should probably get to sleep." she started. "Thank you for making sure I got home alright."

[Graded]Darkness in a Cold Heart

The mood suddenly changed as Naoko firmly set the standards of the night. What he had hoped would happen was little more than a fantasy, a dream really, of a time when they actually had feelings for each other. Well that wasn't entirely true, Shiv still had feelings for Naoko, though after hearing she had moved on so suddenly he felt betrayed. Something in him changed when news reached his ears. The reason being is that he had put her on a higher pedestal than any other girl. The act of moving on so quickly to some random guy really rattled Shiv up. Even though the start of their relationship was identical. Maybe it wasn't even love. Maybe it was just infatuation and or a need for comfort from another. Shiv's face became cold and rigid again, well at least Naoko was safe from her own actions. This sure had been an unexpected turn of a night, he had went from casually going for a drink, to rescuing a damsel in distress, to being rejected and left to his own. Shiv would admit his feelings were not his own, he still felt connected to the girl before him even if he wanted to get rid of them before he got himself into some awkward 'lovey dovey' situation.

Well that took an unexpected turn, he thought as he lifted the bottle before him to fill his cup and take another stiff drink. After his drink he calmly replied in his original icy tone, "No problem, anytime, kid..." He looked at Naoko awkwardly for a second before continuing, "I guess I'll also take my leave then..." Shiv then stood up and slightly bowed before Naoko before turning toward the door. Upon reaching the door Shiv said coldly, "Thanks for the sake..." and the broken heart. "...I honestly hope your man wakes up someday" So at least one of us can be happy... With that said he vanished into the night. This was the second time he had left this place confused and hurt. At least this time he left without a bruise on his body.
