(limit 1) there have been strange rumors of a bad scent that has lasted in the archives of the library for quite some time. Investigate and clean up whatever is making this bad smell. The librarians have checked the shelves, the carpet, and the vents for the cause of this, and believe it to be supernatural in cause.

Atsuko was at work in the forge, taking out the hot crucible and pouring it on her latest weapon, smelting it back together. She was trying new smithing techniques, and because the sword had been broken in three separate pieces, and one of those pieces was now missing, the sword couldn't be mended by conventional means. Therefore, her solution? Smelt the whole damn thing.

It was because she was so hard at work that when she set the crucible down and looked over at the table she had missed the messenger. There was a scroll with her name on it sitting on the work desk next to her. Removing the heavy leather smithing gloves which served to keep her mother from tanning her hide and making it into something more useful because she was always hurting herself in one way or another in the forge, or so she said, she opened the scroll and scanned through it.

"Another mission from mother. You know, she could just give these to me herself." She shook her head. Then again, if it was going to be funded by Iwagakure no Sato's coffers, it had to be official. Kanade was out there, investigating and putting together these missions, assigning them to people. She obviously thought that Atsuko had little else to do.

Atsuko ran a hand through her hair, revealing a set of horns budding from her forehead, and gave the scroll another once over with green eyes, unusual sclera and pupils darting over its contents before she rolled it up and stuffed it into the back of her belt. She took off the smithing apron, pulled on the douse to drench everything that she wasn't working on and closed up the smithy and forge, making sure to check that the hot coal filter was still in place and hadn't melted off like last time.

Then off she flew over rooftops and across drainpipes, a demon on the wind, rushing toward the library. She was the wind itself, moving speedily over rooftops and through narrow gaps between buildings. Well, at least, for a little while that is. She caught her ankle, turned it, took a tumble off a roof and mangled her armor, losing some bits of it in the middle of the street as she did so. Luckily for her, the cart that was rolling past didn't roll over her. Unlucky for her, the armor pieces that had come loose in her flight over the rooftops and had fallen off her in her tumble were now bent and broken. She stared for a long moment, tears welling up in her eyes. It had taken three weeks to make that breastplate and set of armguards. Sniffling she took two deep breaths, reminding herself that, 'Atsuko, real Kunoichi do not cry on missions' and continued on foot, on the ground, to the library, stuffing what remained of her armor in her sack that she carried around to pick up discarded or unwanted bits and scraps of metal.

Finally, she made it to the library, and stood there for a long moment, just gawking at it.

Soseki’s stomach churned as he stepped into Iwagakure for the first time. The towering stone buildings and the cold atmosphere only deepened his disdain. These people, these monsters, had stolen his home, and now he was forced to work for them. This wasn’t what he had envisioned when he became a shinobi of Sunagakure.

Clutching his map as though it were a lifeline, Soseki navigated the unfamiliar streets, each twist and turn making him long for the familiarity of home. The layout was a maze compared to the desert paths he knew so well; without the map, he’d be hopelessly lost before reaching his destination, the library.

The mission at hand, at least, piqued his interest. Spirits had been released in Iwa, though the details in the report were suspiciously sparse. They didn’t trust him, that much was clear. But Soseki was sharp enough to piece together the truth, someone had made a grave mistake. This mission could also be a chance to learn more about the entity sealed within him. It hadn’t spoken since that day, but lately, he felt it stirring, growing more active.

As he approached the old library, its weathered stone walls stood testament to its age, though it was well-maintained. At the entrance stood a young girl, clad in heavy armor and carrying a large sack that he only surmised to be full of more equipment. Soseki took a deep breath, forcing a smile that felt more like a grimace.

“Hey! You must be my partner for this mission, right?” His voice was friendly, but the words tasted like venom. He just wanted to get this over with.

Atusko nodded and looked the youth up and down, "Enkouten, Atsuko at your service, and who are you?" She looked at him, and perceived the thing inside of him, roiling and with a golden head of a ram with long white hair. Its skin was gray, scarred and marked with elaborate red symbols. She looked at the boy, then at his spirit again, her glowing green eyes flashing as she blinked, "Uhm, I was given this, and you as well?" She proffered the scroll which would be identical to the one that he had received.

"You dress kinda funny, are you from out of the village?" She tilted her head, not being up to date on any social graces for what she perceived within him. "How do we proceed, this is my first, uh, this is my third mission." She smiled, "Alone, that is, without the um, instructor to tell me what I am doing right and what I am doing wrong. Last one I botched pretty bad, almost ended up dead if it weren't for Ning." She said, as if the youth in front of her would be able to recognize Ning if put in a lineup.

Soseki’s breath caught for a moment when she mentioned that she’d nearly died on her last assignment. He’d only been on a handful himself, but hearing that didn’t fill him with confidence. These Iwa shinobi... were they all this careless? he wondered. Then again, no... they wouldn’t have conquered his village if they were. Still, it was enough to remind him to keep a close eye on her.

“Well, it’s a good thing Ning was there, then. Are you alright?”

He wanted this mission over and done with as quickly as possible. Being here as a representative of the Hizashi was bad enough, but to be paired with someone who introduced herself like that...

“Soseki Hizashi,” he said, extending his hand for her to shake. “From the Hidden Sand.”

Atsuko nodded and then made a small bow, "Nice to meet you Soseki, Do you have any skills that might help us out in this uh, this mission? Such as like, I dunno, secret cleaning jutsu?" She looked at the scroll again, "I am guessing that this is more an incompetence issue rather than an actual evil spirit." Atsuko looked at the boy and then the thing within him, "Maybe your passenger could do something whenever we find it and if it's not 'mundane' in the traditional sense of the word." Her faintly glowing green eyes bored into him as she continued to speak, unblinking until she was done. She blinked slowly at him, catlike before she waited for him to answer her.

She, of course, also had a passenger of sorts. She had the Heaven Genma within her. She couldn't count on calling on her though, the last time that she had asked for a favor, the Genma had decided that it wasn't worth her time and had ended up making goop. Not a normal amount of it either. It was a semi viscous green goop that filled almost the entire room, all the way to waist high. She wouldn't be asking for any more favors from her passenger until she had a firm grip on how to ask for help from her. She had decided, after her melding with the genma, that she was going to be one of the hosts that asked, rather than squeezed the power out of her ride along. Her father, Shinjiro, had apparently quite the opposite relationship. If her mother could be trusted with any sort of knowledge on the subject, he used his spirit for the power that it had, and only very rarely did he allow Vorashu to do anything untoward with his power. The last time that it had happened, he had cracked her mother's core, and she had to escape into a new one, into a new body as well.

Atsuko was deathly afraid of anything similar, so she kept a tight reign on the beast inside of her, and only asked respectfully when she was completely out of options. On the other hand, this kid might have something similar to Shinjiro, which meant that asking might not be as rude as she had originally thought. Atsuko, being as young as she was, also had no real concept as to what was rude to ask and what was not. Kanade had helped her with her social forays most of the time until she was a genin, and now- well- now she was on her own. Time to make some mistakes and get her hands messy. Even if she was rude about it.
