Mission: The Big Scoop

Post by Sabre » Tue Jul 27, 2010 3:35 pm

The sun was high in the sky, with all the hustle and bustle of the regular day going on smoothly throughout the village. Most people were enjoying the nice weather or conducting their usual business. It was Friday, a day that most people loved. It was a great day to anybody needing a break from the usual routine of the days. All was well in the busy areas...but in the dark corners of Iwagakure, there was barely any light shining. Dark alleys and run down slums, this was another reality.

The man to be searched for was casually sipping tea in a restaurant at the edge of the nice place of town. He was at an outside Tea Shop, reading a book that read on the cover, "Mrs. Mashers Sunday Surprise!" The tea shop was overlooked by a low building, which could easily hide anyone wanting to spy on this fellow. There was also a book store neighboring to it, which had a clear view of the shop. He was the only one at this tea shop and was sitting without shade. His nose was held high in the air, as if he was trying to assert his dominance over everyone.

Now to bring on the spies.

Youko grinned a devilish grin, she could already see her name on the byline. This mission was perfect for her, sans the chance of violence. After just doing random columns for so long, she was glad to be doing some actual work, and yeah the mission, she guessed. No matter what, her skills as a journalist/spy were going to put to the test. While she did the random odd-job here and there for the village of Iwa, this was her first legit mission, the kind of mission they sent chuunin on.

The team was solid for the most part, or from what she could tell. Youko was specialized in intelligence gathering, so she was well suited for a reconnaissance mission, although perhaps she was a bit big-headed to consider this legitimate reconnaissance. Other than that there was Tet-Ta-Tera...uh...Tegakari; someone who she was more than well acquainted with, he was a detective of sorts and Youko only assumed that he was well versed in the art of information retrieval. And then there was the stranger, Shiro, who Youko knew very little about. Although, if his surname meant anything, they were all set.

She had posted herself in the bookstore. There wasn't much for a young girl to in Iwa, but read. Although, Youko might have taken it a bit too far. Her plan to spy was simple, she was going to stay as close to the window as possible while still looking normal. How? She brought up an obscene pile of books, and the poor worker was going to have to wade through every single one to get the price. She had a bit of a nerdy look to her, it was perfectly reasonable that she would buy books in bulk. She had to remember to keep one side away from the window though, she had a radio headset connected to the other members of the team.

EDIT: Added in the radio.

This was a mission that was more common suit for men of Tegakari's profession. One of the most common things Private Detectives had to do was stalk a target, gather info, and report said info. It was a basic job in the purest of fashions, and Tegakari was ready to enjoy it to the fullest. After all, what wasn't enjoyable about good ole fashion detective work? It was certainly better than the regular missions he had been assigned by the village.

Luckily for him the Target decided to spend the morning at a tea shop. Certain members of his team had chosen to hide across the street in a bookstore, watching their mark. Tegakari, however, never liked staying long distances away watching a target and getting bored out of their mind, and thus he chose a vantage point from which he could not only see and hear the target, but enjoy himself in the meantime.

Tegakari had come up the street and gone, at a leisurely pace, to the tea shop like any regular customer, giving away no sign of his intentions. Ordering a cup of tea from the woman at the counter and grabbing a newspaper from a nearby stand, Tegakari headed to a table of his own, sitting diagonally from the target with his back in the direction of the target. Unlike his target, Tegakari had choose a spot in the shade, of course. At this range he should be able to hear most of what the target had to say, and the clever positioning of his newspaper and piece of mirror gave him all he needed to see and hear the target without seeming any different than a regular customer. Because he couldn't just leave his team out of the loop on anything going on, he had a tiny ear bud so he could hear his teammates, and a tiny microphone in the lapels of his suit jacket, so they could hear him. He was all set to do some ole fashion snooping with some not so old fashion gear.

Shiro was a bit agitated today as he was going on a C-Rank mission once again but this time it wasn't with his usual team, no monstrous Mori to rip up the foes, just two other genin he hadn't met before and not only this but it was some spying mission and although he used to watch people has they fell for his pranks he did feel like that was no more and he wanted to be a strong ruthless warrior like Mori not some pansy spying kid.

The rat like boy grumbled as he landed on the rooftop that overlooked the cafe, sitting down in a weird crouching like position with his chin resting on his knees as he peered down towards the mysterious pointy nosed man.
As the genin fidgeted with his headset to make sure it was working properly he grinned cheekily as an interesting thought sprouted to mind, since this was after all a C-Rank he was sure they where probably going to have to fight this man in order to capture him which please the young boy very much.

The reading man with the giant nose sat there drinking his tea for some time. He was happily reading it, and occasionally had an odd snicker or two here and there. His nose kept itself in the air, being better than everybody. Soon a boy came along and went inside the shop. But he sat away from him, and he was glad. He absolutely hated children. He started to mumble, "Darned children and their stupid music and books and small noses..." He kept reading his book until he was done with his tea.

After he was done, he stood up and put barely enough money on the table. He snickered again, and didn't even leave a tip! What a wretched man. Now that he had tea, he went off with a stride to go get some muffins. His nose kept high in the air, and he pushed away people that got in his way. He was obviously not a nice man. The target soon walked to a store which sold many breakfast items. Even though it wasn't the best time for it, this store sold it all day.

The store did not allow people inside, and had a line that was very long. This store was across the street from another cafe, which would hide many people. The building also was on a direct path of rooftops from the other building he was at. Besides that, he was the last person in line. Nobody else was joining in the line. He had a malicious smile on. This would keep the spies busy.

The target started moving, and that meant it was time for Youko to start moving. Well, first she had to finish paying for her books and such. Before heading out she undid her ponytail and let her hair run full, covering both of her ears.

Paranoia was something usually easy to trigger in such a situation, going directly to the café might have stirred something of the kind. With her books she went the opposite way, and simply dropped them off behind a trashcan. She was taking the long way the café, going around the whole street and then going back in the way opposite to where she exited. She quickly set the Tai Henge seal behind her neck and warped into short and stubby business man.

Unless he was positively deranged, he wasn't going to be talking to himself while in the line, or so Youko thought. There would be no point in risking the operation to get that close to him, for a chance of little information, so she just continued her way to the café and took up post inside, “Okay, I've shifted potions from the bookstore to the café; as a heads up I henged into the shorter business type. Over...” She softly whispered into the radio.

By putting the kanji for “substance” on their body somewhere, the user is able to transform themselves or someone else in much the same fashion that the Henge no Jutsu does. The main difference to this is that this jutsu is able to last for long periods of time, and the recipient of its effects actually take on the physical form of their transformation. However, this jutsu is not so advanced that users are able to completely metamorphose at will. For instance, using this jutsu on a cow would be useful for making it look like a lion, but its size wouldn’t be affected, nor would it suddenly possess the agility and speed of a lion. It would, however, have teeth and claws.

As the target started to move Tegakari made sure not to show any reaction, aside from the small movement of his newspaper allowing him to keep the target in his view through the mirror. Tegakari picked up his cup to take a sip from his tea as his whispered into the small microphone. "The target is on the move, over." Soon after Youko replied, saying she had shifted position, as well as shifted appearance. "Roger, over," he replied. Tegakari decided it best to stay unnoticed outside. He could easily keep an eye on them for now from his location, and there was no reason to give himself away by immediately following.

Tegakari, using his mirror of course, looked around until he spotted the form Youko had taken. While of course they couldn't be seen together Tegakari never liked to let details of the situation escape him. Tegakari whispered into the mic once again. "Shiro, can you see anything interesting from up above? If not, I think you could probably get to the store from the rooftops. Over." It was a good thing they had Shiro as their eyes in the sky, but he didn't keep moving his positioning would become useless fast.

Shiro watched as the suspicious man left the building and headed down a path towards some breakfast store where he joined the end of the queue, he seemed to be a very nasty and greedy man as he didn't let anyone in his way at all.
"This is Shiro, I saw the man leave the cafe and join a line for some breakfast shop but he's a bit far away so i'ma get a little closer" spoke the rat boy into his headpiece.

Jumping forwards a couple roofs the genin kept his eye on the man, watching him move along the queue whilst trying to listen in, though it was hard hear him with the distance but getting closer on the roofs would be suspicious so he just had to watch what he did very carefully.

The large nosed man kept his nose in the air, and while at it he started to sing a song about his nose. His singing voice was horrible, but most people in line ignored him. He didn't pay attention to anyone else. His song was just too important...And he was there for a while. A man was holding up the line, demanding that he saw the manager. In his opinion, his food was spiked and he wanted to get his money back. But the cashier wouldn't budge. This man was quite large, buff, and mad. He spoke in a grumbling voice.

Soon the enraged man shoved half of his body into the window of the shop. He looked around and saw the short stubby business man one of the spies made themselves into. He started to yell, "You! Manager! Get over here! I want my money back!" He was determined this was the manager, despite protests of the cashier. The large nosed man checked his watch. He had to be at his meeting at a certain time, and he needed his muffins. He tapped his foot and grumbled, not singing his song.

The spies had to get this mad man quickly out, as he was holding up the mission. Go super spies!

With everyone in place and organized, it was only logical that the mission was going to go at least a bit smoothly...

What the hell was that awful sound?

Oh no, oh no!

Well, this was no good. Perhaps Youko should have chosen a more inconspicuous appearance, which was rather odd when he first choice was inconspicuous, she just had some bad luck. Attention was to not draw an attention to herself, but in the end she had some more attention drawn to herself, she had to hold back the chuckle at the rather cruel irony. Nevertheless the line was being held up, and this mission wasn't going to go anywhere if she just stood there and let the disgruntle customer yell his heart out; she had to act fast.

She undid the comb over of the business persona to cover the radio, “Okay, watch my back, guys. O-o-over.” Youko nervously spoke into the radio shortly before--'Arrrrrrrrgh.' She complained in her mind as she began her way across the street. She didn't even ask how much the man had paid, she just emptied out the remainder of her wallet, which was essentially a cute bird shaped coin purse. This mission was cleaning out her wallet, or the money her mother had given her. She just hoped that she had given up enough coin to pacify the hinder, “I apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused, please come again~” She tried her best to imitate the voice of a grown man. She couldn't just leave, he may have wanted something else, and she'd only waste more time walking back. She could only hope that one of the actual employees or the actual manger didn't call her out.

Tegakari watched as the enraged man started to confront Youko, claiming her to be the shop's manger. While this was a horrible turn of events for them, Tegakari couldn't help but laugh to himself a bit. Not enough for his teammates to hear it over their headsets, though. Tegakari finished his tea and started walking up the street, tucking his newspaper, and mirror of course, under his arm. He dropped a tip on the counter as he passed by. Staying there for much longer would only serve to limit them instead of help them.

He whispered into his mic as he walked, "Looks like this one is up to you, Youko-chan. I do much to help and I'll just be given away. Good luck, over." Tegakari kept walking as he neared the scene. He simply walked the long way around the line and continued up the street until he reached the corner of the street, just a small building away, but still close enough to keep an eye on the man and Youko. Some repositioning of his newspaper and mirror and he could once again see both the target and Youko. Tegakari listened intently to his ear bud. Hopefully he'd be able to hear what was going on over by Youko's end.

Shiro perked up as he watched the man reach the counter and quickly become angry, slamming the desk and shouting at the cashier loud enough that even the rat boy could here, this is when he pointed towards Youko and yelled her over shouting something about a manager to which the now little business looking man spoke into the mic and walked over.

"Well good luck Mr. manager, Shiro out." Shiro spoke in his mic soon after Tegakari who could now be seen walking down the street.
Shiro's body tingled with a strange hidden excitement that he buried down inside and was trying so hard to give up, thinking Mori would find it childish and weak but he couldn't hold it back as he became excited about what was happening, that fun urge of pranking someone started to flow through his body as his team mate started to do such a thing or at least in his mind she was pranking him and it was getting him much more interested in the mission.

The man grunted, took the money and left. He yelled back, "I'm not coming back again!" He stormed off, being mad as hell. Why? That was a good question. He threw some man to the side as he went off. Nevertheless, the line started to move. The employee said to the ninja-in-disguise, "Thank you for that, heres some money as gratitude." He was obviously new, so wasn't going to call her out. The sum was more than the girl paid the man anyway, so she won there.

The line moved, and soon the large billed man got his muffin. He stood in front of the line, carefully peeling his muffins skin. He then ate it, and stood there for longer. After that he started off, his nose high in the air as always. He walked down the street, then stopped. He dropped a box at his feet. There he turned around once more, and headed up the street. The box was left alone, nobody was even thinking of touching it. It safely sat, tied by a bright red bow tie. He moved his way up the street at a very slow manner, until he came up to a bench. He sat down nonchalantly and took out his book. He strangely laughed, like he was waiting for something devious. He stared at the box, waiting for something to remotely touch it.

If nothing happened in two minutes, he would get up then head over to return his book in a bookstore. The bookstore clerk sat behind a small counter, which was directly straight after walking through the door. The large nosed man would then put his book down on the counter, and start yelling at the clerk for no reason. Not a very nice man. But, there was always the box. Would someone touch it? Or just leave it alone? A big decision, curiosity or sticking to the mission.

Well, that was one obstacle dealt with, and rather done so rather well. In addition to the line moving once more, she ended up getting a bit of profit, so it wasn't all bad. She was glad that was over with, "Crisis averted. Over." She made it clear that the whole situation was dealt with as she made her way back to the cafe. It really didn't take too long for the situation to get moving again; the target was on the move once more. This time he did something unexpected, he placed an arbitrary package on the ground. The question was: was it worth it? Curiosity was always a bit on the lethal side to the feline kind, which could obviously applied as some kind of symbolic view of the situation.

It was time to play the waiting game; the package was down and the target was seated. Although he wasn't seated for too long, after setting down the package, he was up in no time, carrying his book on over to the bookstore. Which was perfect, as Youko could have slipped back in with little trouble, and without having to consume anymore chakra. Sadly though, this meant leaving the cafe. Although once out of sight, she removed the seal and went back to her normal self. On her way she picked up her bag of books from behind the dumpster. The plan was simple and quickly thought up, she was going to feign some kind of return. And she did as she entered the bookstore, with the large bag of books from before against her chest, and holding the receipt in her hand.

EDITED: There was some kind of misunderstanding.

((OOC: Sorry for late post, but Kopa had to edit, so I assume I have time, yes? Also, crap post.))

As the man dropped off the box not too far from Tegakari, he couldn't help but be a bit curious. Of course Tegakari was a detective, he knew touching it might just cause trouble. it could be a trap or something. And if someone picked it up, they had a new suspect. There was no reason to pick it up at that moment, but there was all the reason in the world to let it sit and watch. "I'll stay over here by where the box is and watch to see if anyone picks it up. Shiro, you've got a bird's eye view, keep an eye out for anyone suspicious. Over." There was nothing to do now but wait.

Shiro watched as the girl quickly resolved the problem with the nasty man before returning to the cafe and changing back to her normal self but he stopped watching her as a package was left on the ground, looking very enticing which made him want to check it out but he knew he shouldn't as it was one of the first things shinobi learned and could very well be a booby trap.
"Roger that" the rat boy replied to the message Tegakari gave down the microphone.
Shiro then watched the man as he left the bench and headed into the bookstore, leaving his vision of him gone forcing the boy to look out for suspicious people who may be after the package instead after calling the man out to Youko.
"This is Shiro, the man is heading into the book store."

The large nosed man continued to yell at the book store clerk. Finally, he threw a napkin in the mans face and stormed out. He wasn't even in there for a minute, and he was done. Operating quickly was his game. Now that his book was returned, he could go about his business. Until of course, his little trap went off.

Some random kid on the street opened the box, being curious. This mysterious box, that none of the ninjas touched. A good thing too...once the box opened, large amounts of gas poured out. It was gray and thick, you couldn't see through it even with great eyesight. The gas poured around the square, and the large billed man laughed. Soon he darted right into the smoke and down the street. Gas flooded the area, covering his track. Plus too the crowd of people fleeing gave him cover. This man was heading the opposite way of the bookstore, though it would be hard for anyone on the ground to catch it.

Teamwork would be crucial here, the race was on. It was a straight street, and so far he only went straight. Time for this team to do some heavy duty pursuit.

As soon as Youko was in the store, the target was right on out. Although, before Youko could make it clear this person was moving once more, the shroud of smoke had been released. She was stunned,“Target is on the move—and quickly—he went out the store, and I lost him! Shiro, were you able to catch his direction? Over.” She questioned into the radio. She focused on asking Shrio because he was able to provide conformation on the target entering the bookstore, and thus Youko concluded that Shiro was watching from a suitable angle.

Youko quickly put down one of her seals on the ground, and quickly drew a figure in pure ink. This figure of hers was nothing more than a dog sized horse made up of the word “exposed.” She only crafted a s single one, which was not too much of a drain on her chakra, just in case this one was destroyed. She rushed to do the needed handseal to bring the the ink summon into reality, ready to make a move once Shrio responded, if he responded. Though, with the given headstart, perhaps she didn't have much of a chance in catching him.

This is the creation technique of the Ink Style. After painting the picture that they want, the user does the needed seal, causing the ink to 'spring' to life, jumping into a pseudo three dimensional form. This form gets destroyed by any strong jutsu, multiple weak jutsu or any Suiton jutsu. Once destroyed, it poofs into a cloud of runny, non-usable ink. It is treated as if it has all stats of 4. Creations from this jutsu should be around the size of a large dog and can't fly.

Shiro was eyeing the book store area watching as his team-mate entered followed by the man quickly bursting out and her talking down the man relaying it, this is when a bunch of panic filled the streets as a flood of smoke poured out from the mysterious box and covered the whole area masking the man's escape at least to anyone on the ground.
"Gagh smoke has flooded the area and everyone's running about screaming" called Shiro into the mic.

The rat boy's eyes tracked the man running in the opposite direction of the book store until he faded into the smoke, exciting the boy as the action began.
"The man ran off in the opposite direction of the store but I've lost site of him now, I'm gonna head around the smoke on the rooftops in the direction he ran, see if I can't spot him"
With that he jumped across the roofs, eyes peeled for the man emerging from the smoke at any moment.

A devious scheme! An excellent ploy! All words of encouragement that came from the big nosed man, who easily made his escape through this crowd way too easily. His long sprint was very quick, especially for somebody who has a giant nose such as he. Out of the smoke he ran, blowing away from the running ink monsters conjured up. As he ran down the exposed street, he avoided the ninja that ran to intercept the smoke. They were just alerted, and now ran into the smoke to see what happened.

For the big nosed man, he soon cut into an alleyway. This was on the opposite side of the rooftop eyes, and this was a dark alleyway. The only way across was to jump. But, this alley was a straight path to the slums, which was not hard to find. The chase continues!

Youko reviewed what Shrio had said in her head. It made her cringe a bit, she had overestimated the thinking power of her opponent and thus screwed herself over in the long run. She sighed and slapped her palm against her forehead in a moment of absolute frustration and emotion that Youko had yet to ever feel. He mind was stuck on that simple phrase, 'Opposite of the store...' She thought growling with frustration. He ran outside, and kept going in a straight line? That was not very devious, not very devious at all.

With her ink creation ahead of her, Youko followed (Only being a bit behind), going through the smoke and outside into the world. The creation was enough to just push through people, but Youko had her trouble getting through herself. Although, it had just been a few seconds and the street itself was not horribly complex, so if she didn't have to do much to find this menace.

The ink beast made it out of the smoke first, with Youko coming out seconds a bit dazed. Instead of continuing on the ground, and her ink beast would climb up onto the roof, in an attempt to make up for lost time, “ “Any luck on his new current course, Shrio?

Shiro scanned the area franticly but it appeared running around the smoke allowed the man enough time to escape through it and out of site from the rat boy, this just made him annoyed at himself but he hadn't the time to worry and so just shook it off and thought about what to do when he got an idea as his Youko called down the headset.
"I have lost him completely but I got an idea, I'm going to summon Kajirune and have him help us find the guy" he replied quickly.

The genin performed a few quick handseals bit his thumb and slammed down onto the roof top, summoning a large white ninja dressed rat with a poof of swirling smoke, Kajirune bursting out doing some weird 'cool' movements as he was about to call out to Shiro only to be abruptly interrupted.
"Yoyo-" burst out the rat before being interrupted
"Not now Kajirune, this is very serious and important, I need you to listen very carefully"
The rat pulled a kind of 'what's going on' face as he saw just how serious Shiro was being for once, this was when he realised the village was filled with a cloud of smoke so it really must have been serious indeed so he pulled himself together and began to listen, nodding towards to boy to signalise he was prepared.
"Ok so as you can see there is a smoke cloud around the area, well there is some weird snobby man that we're chasing but we have lost him so I need your help in finding him, here take this spare headset and we can split up and try and find him, you'll know who it is when you see just how snobby he is, I just need you to try and pin point his location" explained the boy
Taking in all the instructions the rat put on the headset and ran backwards whilst Shiro ran towards the left, both taking the roofs rather than the ground.
"Yoyo, this is Kajirune and Shiro summoned me to help find the guy you're chasing so we both taking the rooftops ok?" the rat called down the headset.
