Mission: Candy Shop

The boy stood at the door of his house waiting for the second someone knocked on it. His parents waited on the couch, doing what parents do. They kept their eyes on their son, in case he tried anything like busting out of the house. Though they would know if he tried since he was sitting on the floor. The clock ticked away as the family waited for the escort.

Omoi was darting from rooftop to rooftop, trying to quell the feelings of nervousness that bubbled and frothed inside her. She had never had any sort of babysitting mission, and even with her iijutsu training, the cloud of apprehension that hung over her head still remained.

Nevertheless, her demeanor was calm and composed when she finally dropped down right across the street from the house. Walking up to the door, she took a small breath to calm herself before knocking on the door.

A knock was heard on the door and the boy quickly went up to it and opened it. His parents walked behind him calmly and waited to see who was sent. As the door opened, they saw a young woman standing there. The boy had a big smile on his face, knowing his candy was just moments away from being in his stomach. "Hello, miss," the woman in the back said. Obviously the kid's mother. "Thank you for coming on such short notice. We apologize for any inconvenience." The kid then ran out to the girl and stood beside her. "Can we get the candy now?" he asked.

Omoi bowed politely to the boy's parents. "Hello. My name is Nenshou Omoi... and please, don't worry. Your son is in safe hands."

When the small child came scurrying up to his side, she giggled pleasantly as she knelt to his level. "Indeed we can," she told him. "But remember: the streets of the village can get busy and easy to be lost in, so you need to stay by my side, okay? As long as you keep your hand in mine, then we'll be fine."

With that, she stood back up and offered her hand. So far, things seemed to be going okay.

The boy's mother nodded to the girl with a smile. "Thank you. Hokori may be a hand full, so be sure to keep a close eye on him." Hokori, as the boy was called, only needed to hear "Indeed we can." With a loud cheer, and without hearing the rest of the Omoi's warning, he took off in a run down the street. "Come on lady," he shouted, looking back. His parents both had a surprised look on their face. The mother sighed, putting her hand over her face. The father just looked down and shook his head. "This is what we mean," he said. "But we trust you'll be able to keep him under control."

With a quick nod to the parents, Omoi dashed over to Hokori's side and gently took his hand. "Stay by me, okay, Hokori-kun?" she told him as they made their way to the store.

Not even five seconds into the mission and the kid had already tried to slip away from her once. Something told Omoi this would be a trend throughout the day.

Hokori sprinted down the street as fast as he could, almost running into a lady walking with groceries. It didn't take long before he was caught by Omoi. He turned around to see who it was that had his arm and tugged a bit. But when he saw it was her, he smiled, relieved that it wasn't some other person. "Okay, lady," he said, holding Omoi's hand in return as she told him to stay close. He walked up ahead of her, literally pulling the girl, in a rush to get where he wanted to go. "Come on. Come on. Hurry before all the candy is gone."

Ah, the imagination of a child. Such a wonderful thing.

To appease the young boy, Omoi increased her pace to a very light jog. Lord knows she'd need both of her arms before the day was through, so she couldn't allow the energetic child to rip hers from its socket.

For now, she kept a close eye on the boy and their surroundings. Omoi wouldn't let anything bad happen to this child... especially not after what happened to Reiyaku.

It would have taken much longer to reach if they had not sped up. The look on Hokori's face when they reached the door was as if he'd seen a store full of candy. Oh wait. He was seeing a store full of candy. And no one else was inside. He thought he could have it all to himself. And with the money his parents gave him, he could easily have walked out with a bag full. "Candy....." he said, still in a mesmerized sate so it sounded all zombie like. He slowly walked through the door, not caring about Omoi, and as the bell of the opening door sounded, a young woman, about 19, came out from the back. She stood there with a smile watching Hokori move like a zombie towards the shelves.

Omoi couldn't help but giggle as the young boy became entranced by the candy. The child's imagination could be such a joy to observe at times. Still, she had to make sure Hokori followed the laws of capitalism before he gorged himself on copious amounts of sugar. "Hokori-kun, we need to pay the nice lady before you get your candy," she told him, gently taking his hand and leading him towards the woman. "Then you can get whatever you might want from the shelves, okay?"

She bowed to the young woman respectfully. "Hi. I think Hokori-kun here would love to purchase some of your candy," she requested politely.

The lady behind the counter smiled and nodded, then leaned over to look at Hokori. "Do you have money, little guy?" she asked. Hokori nodded and reached into his pocket, pulling out the equivalent of $1.50 USD in ryo. The lady happily took the money and went behind the counter, pulling out a small sized bag and handed it to Hokori. "You may fill this bag with anything you like." Hokori took the bag and, with no hesitation, ran back to the shelves and started taking candy from it one by one, bag by bag, pack by pack. After about a minute, his bag was filled with all sorts of goodies. He popped a jawbreaker in his mouth and started to suck the sugar off. His pupils grew a bit and a large smile came across his face. With a squeal, he took off (at a speed of 2) and went out the door.

Sugar rush. Someone should stop him.

As Hokori was filling the bag with copious amounts of sugary goodness, Omoi bowed in thanks to the cashier before turning back around to watch Hokori. As soon as she saw the boy stick the jawbreaker in his mouth, she was ready to move. 'Here comes the sugar rush,' she warned herself as Hokori made a mad dash towards the door.

He would get out of the shop, but not much further than that. Even with his sugar-vamped speed, Omoi was still faster at a full speed. Quickly spotting him, Omoi ran up to him, carefully grabbed him by his sides, and placed him upon her shoulders, still not breaking stride as she headed towards his house. "Let's go for a jog, Hokori-kun!" she told him before picking him up. Though she didn't slow her speed too much (speed 2), she did make sure to avoid any especially congested parts of the street. She also made sure to stay away from any low hanging signs, beams, lanterns, etc. as she made her way back to Hokori's house.

Hokori walked--er bounced--towards his house. He was side by side with Omoi, going down an almost empty road. One hand held by Omoi, the other hand holding his candy bag. And a few gummy candy in his mouth as he filled his body with more sugar. He wouldn't be able to do much except bounce. So, the two continued their walk--er bounce jog--and made their way to the house.

Finally, Omoi's goal was in sight; the family's door was just up ahead.

Despite being slightly fussy, Hokori had been reasonably well-behaved. Perhaps when he wasn't hyped up on sugar, she'd watch him again on a private contractual basis.

Omoi gently rapped on the door, making sure to keep Hokori's hand in hers.

As Omoi knocked on the door, she would notice the family appear from beside her. Seems as though they finished their task just as you returned. The mother took Hokori's other hand in hers and smiled brightly. "Thank you very much, Omoi," she said, as the father made his way to open the door. With both hands being held Hokoir couldn't help but nibble on the chocolate bar in his mouth so it wouldn't fall. They went inside and the mother gave one last nod before closing, leaving Omoi to be on her way.
