It was nighttime in Iwagakure. The skies were clear and crisp, but the air was tense.

Hiraku stood one hundred feet away from a five story building. It was an unfinished multi-level warehouse; it was gray and blocky, much like the rest of the buildings in this district. Somewhere in the bleak brown housing lurked a dark force that drove a young man to an unwise decision. And it was Hiraku's job to find him and dispense true justice.

The moonlight shone through the many window frames that had been masoned into it. The door seemed the most convenient entrance. Climbing up the side of the building would most likely result in the chuunin being spotted.

Hiraku stood in front of the door, tightening his wristbands and mentally preparing himself for the mission ahead. He shrugged and took the door handle in his hand, opened the door, and walked inside.

The first floor of this warehouse looked normal, though it did appear to be massively overcrowded with what looked like strands of web. Not that they were very easy to see, mind you; the majority of the first floor was pitch black, the only light being provided by the windows carved into the walls. Hiraku could vaguely make out several different criss-crossing strands that slanted diagonally down from the ceiling to the floor. The strands were a smoky white in color, though they did seem a bit neat to be silk...

Hiraku looked around for a bit, tapping the bottom of his chin as he followed the nearly translucent strings from ceiling to wall to floor. He needed to look around, but didn't want to risk touching the strings. Better safe than sorry.

He performed a few handseals and breathed in. He held the breath for a few seconds before exhaling, causing a bullet of fuuton to slice through a few nearby strands of web. Once they were cut, he waited....

The bullet ripped through several of the strands. With a metallic twang, they snapped, causing several great spiked steel orbs to drop from the pitch-black ceiling and crash onto the ground.

Trap 1 had been revealed.

It would be easy for Hiraku to realize that the strands of "web" (which in reality were wire rubbed white with bone powder) were holding up the large weights up on the ceiling, which were difficult to see because of the natural darkness. Progressing to the staircase across the floor would only be a matter of taking out the wires now.

The chuunin blinked, flinching at the sound of the heavy balls crashing to the ground. He sighed. Well, there goes my easy mission. The fact that someone went through such extensive lengths to keep people out. Hiraku performed the same set of handseals again, aiming for the remainder of the strings. He performed the jutsu thrice more, destroying more (if not all) of the strings. He focused mostly on creating a path from his current location to the staircase. Once he was done, he headed upstairs.

After ascending the stairs, Hiraku would notice something different. Much unlike the first floor, this room was filled with crates of various sizes. What's more, there was no simple straight path to take; the crates had been arranged almost as a maze.

Also, unlike the previous level, the floor here seemed very clean. The moonlight shining through the windows showed the patches of floor shining almost as brightly as diamonds. Apparently, someone wanted to do a bit of house-cleaning.

The path ahead of Hiraku branched off to the left and to the right. Each "hallway" was about ten feet wide, and the crates were stacked nearly to the ceiling.

Hiraku couldn't suppress a sigh. The crates were everywhere and the floor was suspiciously clean, even for a neat-freak like him. Even so, he didn't want to touch it. It looked so sparkly and shiny, and he didn't want to dirty it with his footprints.

Channeling his chakra as best as he could, he turned around, put his hands and feet on the wall, and climbed. Once he reached the ceiling, he hung upside down directly in front of the door to inspect the ceiling and floor for traps at a higher vantage point.

After climbing the walls to gain the high-ground, Hiraku didn't see anything. However, he did hear something.

It sounded like the pacing and snarling of an animal off on the far-side of the floor. There were several of them actually, most likely dogs meant to be released after some point. As to how they would have gotten out of wherever they were being confined had yet to be discovered.

Hiraku could potentially traverse the entirety of the floor this way. He was standing upside down of course, and all that blood rushing to his head could cause a problem.

Hiraku jumped down, landing in a crouch on his feet. He removed one of the two scrolls on his back as he backed back into the staircase. After opening it, he performed a few quick handseals and slammed his hand in the center of the scroll. His nagamaki appeared once the smoke cleared.

Leaving his scroll in the staircase (he had a habit of leaving scrolls on missions; he always got more later), he began to traverse the room, carefully weaving through the crates, his weapon at the ready.

As Hiraku made his way through one of the hallways, he'd find out how the pups were supposed to be released. One of the few things Hiraku hadn't been able to see were the very thin strands of black wire across the floor between several of the darkened pathways.

And Hiraku had unwittingly stepped on one of them. The wire, being much thinner than most trap cables, snapped. With a loud slam, the cages opened and the rapid pat of feet and deep barks of the dogs echoed across the room.

The pups were coming. Time to get moving.

Hiraku hung his head in exasperation; why'd they have to be animals? He clutched his weapons and kept walking forward, occasionally creeping around corners with his nagamaki poised for action.

The barking got louder and louder, but now they weren't just coming from in front of Hiraku; the echoes were emanating from all around the shinobi.

Without warning, a Rottweiler jumped at Hiraku from his left from above, leaping off of some of the crates. At the same time, a second Rottweiler turned the corner and bound for him.

They were both foaming at the mouth. It was obvious that they had rabies.

Hiraku's eyes narrowed when he saw the dogs. As the dogs approached, he raised his nagamaki, jamming the point of his blade into the dog coming from above. Then, he swung down, tossing the first dog into the second. Hiraku jumped over them, turning the corner, pausing briefly to see if any other dogs were coming.

The first dog was done for. The nagamaki pierced the pup straight through the heart, killing the dog before it even hit the ground.

The second one was not. After recoverying from the carcass being tossed into it, it scurried to its feet and dashed back at Hiraku with gusto.

A third dog came bounding down the pathway Hiraku had looked down, it's fangs bared.

Hiraku bit his lip; with the dogs coming from both sides, he tossed it upward, jamming the blade into one of the crates. He then followed it, climbing the tower of crates until he was out of reach from the dogs. He then reached into his pouch, grabbed two kunai, and flung them towards both of the dogs, aiming for their heads.

The dogs were just too slow; the kunai dug themselves deep into their skulls.

There should have been one more dog, but this one seemed to be smarter than its brothers. Smarter and more dangerous. It kept itself silent for now, so Hiraku wouldn't be able to tell where it was as of yet.

The pathways he saw from above seemed clear. What's more, the chuunin could see the stairs from this vantage point.

He dropped from his perch, but not before making a few handseals. Once his feet hit the ground, a current of fuuton formed beneath his feet. He glided across the floor, focusing on making it to the next set of stairs. His nagamaki remained clutched in his hand, ready the case of another attack.

As Hiraku turned along more and more pathways, he could find no trace of the last dog. Perhaps it had gotten tired of searching?

Also, the crates seemed to be getting more dense; soon enough, the hallway had shortened to five feet wide and the crates were piled even up to the ceiling.

After rounding one final bend in the maze of crates, the stairs were in sight. It was just a twenty foot straight shot to the staircase from here.

The chuunin smirked despite himself. The growling of the dogs had stopped so, naturally, he assumed he had taken care of all of his targets. Despite his confidence, he hadn't replaced his blade into the sheath on his back.

He was, in all honestly, weary of the traps. They were slowing him down and keeping him from his main objective. He continued to glide across the floor, careful to avoid the crates that seemed to be stacked closer together as he approached the exit.

Just as Hiraku was reaching the staircase, a low growl echoed out from the darkness. Guess where the fourth Rottweiler was?

From inside the stairwell, the dog leaped down at Hiraku, the darkness inside the stairwell having given it cover. It was much closer than the other mutts had come; Hiraku would have to act fast... or else.

Without hesitating, Hiraku moved his nagamaki into an attack position, holding it in front of him, with the blade level with his knee, one hand halfway down the hilt with the other holding the end. As the dog leaped, he swung upward sharply in an arch, aiming for the animal's underbelly.[/quote]

(OOC: Yeah, it was. Don't worry; small detail like that won't really matter at this point.)

Hiraku's quick thinking and even quicker swordsmanship not only saved him from nasty bites but also neatly sliced the animal in half. It was such a slick and mellow movement that the blood itself deemed Hiraku too awesome to stain with its crimson color, opting to instead splat harmlessly on the floor right beside him.

With that, all threats on this floor had been averted. All that was left was to ascend the stairs and face his next challenge.

The chuunin dispelled the jutsu, coming to a complete stop. He slashed his nagamaki in the air, slinging off most of the dogs' blood. He sheathed his weapon, holding it by its sheath as he began to cautiously walk up the stairs.

The next floor just seemed... odd. Perhaps it was meant for an on-site greenhouse, perhaps it was a giant company pool, or perhaps it was a huge structural mistake. Nevertheless, this was the reality.

The entire floor was covered in a foot of water... which was oddly enough matched with a foot and a half depression in the floor. What's more, there appeared to be sprinklers on the ceiling all along the top of the section. If it was an indoor water park for the workers (which it might very could have been), then it seemed like it'd be lots of fun.

The good times would be ruined, however, if Hiraku payed closer attention to the water's surface. Exposed electric wiring was scattered across the room on both the floors and ceiling. The water seemed to shimmer with an unnatural light; it was most likely electrified.

The staircase to the next floor, as usual, was across the floor from Hiraku.

Hiraku glared at the water, become increasingly annoyed with all of the traps and obstacles. Focusing his chakra to his feet yet again, he climbed the wall to the ceiling and began swiftly crossing the room, making sure to avoid all of the sprinklers. Once on the ceiling, he went into a slight crouch and began walking across the ceiling as quickly as he dared.

As Hiraku made his way across the ceiling, he could hear a switch flip somewhere in the room. The sprinklers came to life, and powerful water jets from beneath shot up all the way to the ceiling. This wouldn't be such a bad thing... if there weren't exposed electrical wires dipped in the water below. There were also some that were hanging from the ceiling, but they would post no threat so long as Hiraku made sure not to stand on them.

Still, Hiraku had no way of knowing in what order these jets might go off...

Hiraku cursed aloud; he hated missions like these. There was no point in using a jutsu to slice the wires down. He did the only thing he could do: he ran as quickly as he could. He had no idea when each sprinkler would go off. He darted between the sprinklers, taking care to avoid touching the water.

Hiraku's speed would serve him well; he was just fast enough to outrun the sprinklers. Not a full second after he passed each row of sprinklers would they spring to life, dousing the pool below in electrified water.

Still, those jets on the ground might prove to be a problem. As Hiraku made a mad dash for the exit,large pillars of water randomly began shooting up towards the ceiling, covered in similarly electrified water. He'd need to be quick on his toes in order to evade them.

Hiraku slowed down, biding his time as he observed the timing of the jets of water. The pattern was sporadic. He watched for an opening, concentration his chakra. Then, at his full speed, he darted forward, moving to avoid the water.

Hiraku's mad dash placed him far ahead of the columns of water. As soon as he reached the end of the floor, the water jets stopped and the sprinklers shut off.

The tap-tap of feet could be heard coming down the stairs. Finally, the spy could be seen scared out of his wits, kneeling to the floor and offering his hands up to be shackled. Hiraku's mission was finally complete.
