Grip!

[Kao]

The edge nagamaki scraped against the edge of the rocks, filling the otherwise silent field with the sound of metallic clinks. The occasional grunt would resound in the small, dry plain. Yagi Hiraku sighed, pushing the blade into the dry earth and leaning against a dead, fallen tree. He hadn't been on a mission in weeks, and was taking out his frustration by honing his kenjutsu.

He stared blankly for several minutes, then sighed and looked for his scroll. It was massive, completely unrolled a few doze feet away. Hiraku rolled it up and, instead of replacing his nagamaki into the scroll, he strapped it to his back and headed towards the main part of the village. He re-sheathed his weapon and slug it across his shoulder, humming a bit as he walked. Though he was sore, he was in an oddly good mood.

The cold wind blowing through his smooth, snow-white hair felt somewhat refreshing after awaking in his muggy, closed-in apartment, filled with the foul odour of his unwashed clothes. His sleep had been far too short and uncomfortable for his liking, but his room was too unpleasant to simply go back to sleep in. So instead, he had escaped up onto the metal bar stretching from his apartment to the opposite building in order to stretch his legs and wake himself up. Of course, the breeze didn't need to help wake him up; the obnoxiously loud streets of Iwa made sure that it's dwellers couldn't sleep until ridiculous times in the night.

Kaosu would of gladly sat there for hours on end, studying the scurrying villagers while enjoying the breeze, but a glimpse of a man holding a bottle of lemon squash brought up a temptation he had completely forgotten about up until now. The temptation for his favourite soft-drink in the world, which he just so happened to be completely out of right now. Which only meant one thing.. shopping time!

Dropping from his perch on the metal beam, he swung himself through his window. Looking around the room, he eventually found his white over-coat thrown over the edge of his chair, with his metal staff resting on the desk beside it. Sliding the over-coat over his grey t-shirt, he zipped it up to his chest and strapped his metal staff across his back. He picked up his wallet and leapt back out the window, using a few of the tinier beams to flip forwards as he fell. Landing in a kneel, Kaosu stood up straight and began to walk towards the main part of the village, where some of the shops were.

Once he finally reached the main part of the village, he darted straight for a small takoyaki stand. He bought several of the tasty treats, paying with some of the last money he made from his mission. Hiraku sighed; he needed to go on another mission soon. He stuffed two of the rolls into his mouth, nearly melting with the hot, steaming goodness of the treat. Takoyaki is the best thing ever!

He was so wrapped up in his snack that he didn't notice someone walking towards him until it was too late. He bumped into the other person, sending the rest of the food tumbling to the ground. Hiraku looked at the ruined takoyaki forlornly.

Being in a good mood has its positives, but at times one gets too caught up in their happy thoughts and their mind begins to wander. For Kaosu, this was something that happened all too often. While weaving his way through the scurrying crowd of villagers, he had began to think about when his next mission would be when a big, muscular jackass shoulder barged him out of the way, grumbling "Move it!" as he passed. Kaosu was spun by the force, and as he stood there gathering his balance another person ran into him.

This one seemed accidental though, because not only did both men topple to the ground, but the other person dropped their food on the ground. "Ah, I'm so sorry. I stopped in the middle of the walkway." Pushing himself off the ground, he continued. "I can replace your food if you want. Do you need a hand up?" he finished, extending his open hand to the man.

Hiraku sighed, dusting himself off after taking the other man's hand. He picked up his fallen sword, wiping off the dirt it gained from the fall. "It's fine. I'm just sad about my poor takoyaki." He looked genuinely sad when someone walked by and inadvertently kicked a bit of dirt onto the already ruined snack. He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small grey bag. "No, no, it's fine, I'll just..." his shoulders slumped when he saw he was nearly out of money.

I still need to buy groceries....

Hiraku didn't like the idea of someone paying for his food, but if the man insisted, then by all means. "Uhm, sure, that'd be great. You should help yourself to some takoyaki, too. It's the best thing ever." He tried to put on a sincere smile but, like always, he felt a bit awkward around others. Nothing new about that.
