Remaking The Foundations

Post by Versesai » Wed Apr 04, 2018 11:12 pm

The midday sun had long since disappeared behind the mountain peaks surrounding Iwagakure, the bustle of the city dying down to the workers and shinobi still on patrol or those heading home for the night. Merchants had long since closed up shop, businessess were shutting down and the mines were whistling the final bells for the evening. No one wanted to be outside in the dropping temperature if they could avoid it and no one wanted to be working in it least of all. Except for the exceptionally dedicated, the driven and the fundamentally insane.

Which left it as absolutely no surprise to any sane being that one of the training grounds, despite being void of all instructors and medics, was still in use by one particular combination of those three critera. The training ground was a circular, walled in arena with numerous boulders and plateaus, as well as loamy dirt and sand for poor footing; It was not an easy place to train, which made it more popular among the chuunin and jounin who desired a challenge. It had become something like a third home to Jinseie Zoukane, especially on nights like these where there was little else to do but train.

It was oddly silent now, but it had not been minutes ago as the methodical sound of flesh hitting stone had rung out for what seemed like all day, but was not by any stretch of imagination. The tall, orange-haired chuunin had been driving his fists with measured strength into the stone walling of the training ground, flat as he could find, for some time before now. It was not some angry flailing or violent impulse, but something much more methodical and level-headed, each punch timed and tightened perfectly to stop short of actual injury to himself, but he had bloodied both knuckles from sheer use.

Which is what led to his current position. Seated cross-legged on the sand, a scroll spread over his lap and him half-reading it as he followed it's instructions and guiding visuals, his knuckles being unwrapped from the bandages he had been wearing prior and now wrapped once more in clean, fresh gauze with extra cloth underneath to soak up the blood. It was quite odd to see such blatantly self-destructive behavior immediately followed by an act of healing, and Jinseie seemed so focused on it that there was no mistaking he had intended both things. His shinobi pouch sat off to the side, his hammer and wakizashi tucked next to it and a small medical kit splayed out over his leg. It was extensive, but simple, the sort of kit purchased by novices practicing medical techniques. Certainly not something one expected to see in the hands of a shinobi known more for his skill in causing wounds than mending them, but then, Jinseie had always been oddly layered in his approaches to fighting and combat.

There was still light enough to work and see, but it was turning darker every few minutes and Jinseie knew that within the next few hours, he would have to head home, but as he tightened the gauze wrappings on his hands he flexed the fingers. It was probably best for him to head home now, actually...If he didn't give his hands time to heal, he suspected he might cause more injury than he planned and he'd be recovering for weeks instead of days. It was with this thought that he reached over to his pouch, fishing from it not a training tool or a scroll but instead a pipe and it's flint, smiling peacefully as he popped the pipe between his teeth. The thin wood and metal rod ended in a small circular-mouted bowl that he packed full of some sweet smelling, dry herb and tar that was then lit up by his flint against the rim of the pipe's bowl.

Once he had begun to smoke, Jinseie stood and began to pack his medical kit and scrolls back into his tool bag, before taking a seat on a rock right next to them, brushing dust off his tightly covered knees and flapping his long, green-brown coat to send dust scattering off. A deep inhale had off-white smoke swirling out of his mouth from the opposite side of the pipe, flowing into the air in a small stream before dissipating in the shear winds and he simply looked up at the sunset and horizon it was on, both hands resting on the rock under him as he enjoyed the sunset. It had been far too long since he'd just taken a breath, really...

The white snow goose swooped between buildings, avoiding it's predator at any cost. It had been forced to fly low thanks to the injury it had received on one of it's wings. Dodging buildings and it's hunter alike, the geese made sure to always keep it's flank secured, even though it was terrified of the outcome. It knew that it's brethren had perished not long ago, that it was a mistake to fly so close to a ninja village but here it was, fleeing for it's life. The whooping noise coming from below was terrifying and the flying human being was even worse, it was facing death from above and below.

Amaya wasn't the type to wander around town at night, or at least not before she had been forced to work as border patrol, the year of had fundamentally altered her sleep cycles. She had grown accustomed to hunt animals at night, using her senses and Wana's powerful scent to spot her prey and even though she was within Iwagakure's walls, she still found herself hunting. She saw this as training, a way to keep up her skills as she feared that this would be the only way she would be allowed to work for quite.

"Keep at it Wana! It's almost over, it won't be able to keep up this pace." Amaya kept shooting her glass senbons at the goose ever so often. She needed to keep it low to the ground as she knew that the cold would be too much for her to bare if she flew up to high altitudes, especially around Earth Country at night. The setting sun gave her a beautiful sight to witness, save for the fact that she was intensely occupied with hunting the goose. Her training had thought her to spare her energy and wear out her prey if she wanted to have a decent chance of taking it down, humans had a tendency to outlast a lot of animals, though she had never hunted one of these before.

The bird made the mistake of flying over the training grounds before Wana leapt at it and missed, which caused the bird to rise up to be hit by Amaya's senbon. It struck the goose square in it's head and fell down towards the ground, it would narrowly miss the duo sitting in the training ground before she would swoop down and land next to it. "Sorry about that! I was so focused on hunti-Jinsei? Is that you?" Amaya wasn't sure if it was her old comrade or if she had stumbled upon a man that looked just like him. It had been a while since she last saw him and the sunset had a way of altering colors. Though it was clear that Kiyone was with him, which got her to chuckle for herself, she had no idea that they were an item.

(This post will have two instance of tenses, Kit posted as I was finishing my post, lol, so we're working around it.)

The chilling air was thinner at her altitude biting through the protective shroud she was wearing over her clothes, riding the wind pockets above the city to carry her to her destination; her wings cut through the cold like a knife, tilting as she began her circling descent. She had just come from his house, when she found that he wasn't home she asked some of his neighbors when one had told her he had mentioned training when they spoke earlier that day, Kiyone was fairly confident he'd still be there. Jinseie seemed to enjoy training when he had free time unless they were spending time together, she was often worried he was joining to wear himself out before he got a chance to get older, he never seemed to sit still for long.

Taking the path not dissimiliar to a circle bird of prey or scavenger as she scanned the area for the tell-tale signs of her guardian's destructive training regemine, didn't take long to spot the broken pillars and scattered boulders and rocks scattered across one of the grounds, a smile tugging at her lips. She couldn't help it, he was such a character... it was one of the reasons she was drawn to him and why they now dated. Finding the area of disaster helped her spot the bright orange hair in the fading light and her smile grew with the upcoming time they would spend together.

She landed a little abruptly with a small flurry of snowy white feathers on the rock above Jinseie's head, setting a bento box on his lap as she brushed her lips to his upside down, grinning a little at him before climbing down from the rock and settling herself next to him. She noted the stained bandages on his hands, taking the pipe from the hand closest to her and holding it between her teeth as she inspected his hand with care. She didn't need to say anything to him, she was often fussing about his injuries and he had learned to let her, unwinding the bandage and gauze and looking at the injuries; chakra was channeled into her hands and he moved it from herself to him, killing off the bacteria there as they sat there, smoke occasionally wafting from between her lips.

She was waiting for him to take possession of the pipe so she could speak, she dislike speaking when she had something in her mouth, finding it impolite.

----

Her first-aid was disrupted by the large predatory creature and the woman who joined it, her reaction was fast but not immediate having to choose between defense and defending Jinseie, her wings unfurled and protected the couple from the debris of shuffling rocks and dirt that accompanied their arrival. Her posture had shifted to one of relaxing to one of readiness, one leg had shifted and was ready to launch her either into the air or otherwise, a hand not holding onto Jinseie's was near the holster at her thigh; at least until she recognized the person as a friend she had reconnected with recently, settling back down as they were addressed.

Good news, Jinseie's pipe was still lit and between her lips. Small victories over her paranoia and jumpiness.

It had taken almost no time at all for Jinseie's spot to be found and the first person to drop to the ground had him looking over quietly, the gentle frown on the beautiful face of his partner and girlfriend. Girlfriend. It felt really odd to call this woman, Kiyone, that title considering she was also a Jinchuuriki of Iwagakure...The idea that they were a couple made his mind reel in very odd ways and he couldn't help but grin at her as she looked to him and his now bandaged knuckles. There was a certain amount of goofy, sheepish amusement in his face as she sat next to him, her chakra flowing through his wounds and his pipe unceremoniously stolen from him. The bento box on his lap took attention next and he couldn't help but look at her face now.

Kiyone cared for him in a very real way and at times Jinseie felt some guilt at how badly he let himself push during training, but then he had also made no secrets of it before they became a couple...She had witnessed his training regimen firsthand as his partner long before they had admitted any interest in the other. That said, it didn't really stifle the feelings of regret when she saw his wounds or his training results and this same frown came to her face, the little worried look as she wordlessly helped him recover.

He wanted to show her he was alright and taking care of himself, and had a mind to speak as such, until his stomach rumbled a little and he awkwardly remembered breakfast, some dozen hours ago, had been his only meal of the day. That seemed about right. He was glad she was around to keep him in check, because there was a part of him well and truly would have forgotten to eat until he passed out from hunger, at least once upon a time. Still, he couldn't exactly eat right now, not with his hands being tended to.

While he hadn't broken his hands open or destroyed any critical veins or nerves, he had torn the skin through repeated contact and she'd be able to tell he'd damaged the bone in a miniscule way; Not even enough to feel, but enough to start healing the cracks. Given the medical and martial scrolls laid over his training bag, he had obviouly had a plan for his training.

Hands 'tied', essentially, he couldn't pluck his pipe from her lips and take it back to let her speak, so he simply smiled and let her reassure herself that he hadn't broken both of his hands and arms...

At least until the bird abruptly fell into next to him, spiraling down into a heap on the ground next to him with a glass needle protruding from it's head. Jinseie didn't start so much as his attention flared to life and he stared at the dead bird, before the arrival of a new party did have him moving somewhat. Hands damaged and Kiyone moving to be ready to protect him, Jinseie still had no reason to be on guard and as Amaya rose up to greet the man, he lifted his head up from behind Kiyone's wing and then lifting his hand, a pleasant smile and expression on his face as he waved slightly. "Evenin' Amaya! It's been a while!" he declared, drawing one of his bandage-covered hands to Kiyone's in a reflexive gesture to comfort her.

"I'm glad to see. Nice night for a hunt." he said, grinning as he looked to the bird now laying next to his training pack.

Her wings folded themselves on her back as she calmed down, Jinseie's hand touching hers in a reassuring manner, settling back down and going back to sitting on her knees as she fought the adrenaline going through her body to calm, trying in vain to will it. The sight of the dead bird helped a bit to drain the color from her face as she took up Jinseie's hands after she gave Amaya a short wave in greeting and a smile. With the pipe still in her mouth she didn't verbally greet the fellow ninja as she normally would have, she'd speak in a moment once she was finished patching up Jinseie's hands.

She could feel the twinge of guild he felt as she attended him which made the corners of her lips curl softly but she didn't say anything to him; she had long since accepted his training regimen, having seen it in person more and more as they spent their time together. He bled and she patched him up, it was a good symbiosis between them. Her own pack was opened after a moment and she pulled out a fresh bandage unrolling it on her lap as she channeled her chakra into while she careful wind the cloth around his hand adhering it there to block out new bacteria from getting into the wound.

Her medical care was careful but sure and soon his hands were bandaged and he was free to attend the bento box on his lap, the Ayatori busying herself with rolling up the soiled bandages and putting them into an neat pile next to them. Once she had finished her busy work she took the pipe out of her mouth, exhaling smoke above her as she gave her friend a bigger smile, "Evening Amaya, I could do without the uh.... hunting of winged things," she teased.

Amaya wasn't really taken back by their blatant romantic affection as she somewhat guessed that the two of them would end up together, that was what usually happened when two people spend most of their time together. She did chuckle though as she lifted up the goose, she nodded at Kiyone before she grinned at Jinsei, he was right, it was a great night for a hunt but what got her was that she got to see the two kiss, which got her thinking back to Akane before she shook her head.

"I bet it's an ever better night for you. I'll leave you two to it." If they didn't stop her from leaving then she was going to. Amaya stopped once Kiyone insisted on her not to, it was at that point that she would notice Jinsei's wounded hands. She was going to offer her assistance before she noticed Kiyone's green glowing hands, then her pale face.

She wondered if it was the fact that she had killed a winged creature that caused her to look ill, before doing her the courtesy of stuffing the goose in one of her pouches. "Ah, the ol' work myself until I can barely move? I've seen that before in the E.R, though I only worked as an assistant for a doctor. Great place to learn Iijutsu, horrible place for someone who doesn't have the stomach to see people in pain." She walked up to the duo and chuckled. Wana wasn't far behind, she would nudge her closer to the duo before it too would chuckle, not knowing why, she would scratch the back of her head. This was starting to feel a bit awkward as she had a hard time seeing other people in love.

It took Jinseie a moment to confirm with Kiyone with a glance that she didn't mind if Amaya stayed to chat with them; He wasn't about to allow another person to interrupt a moment if she desired privacy, they had rare opportunity to be truly alone and together, and if Kiyone wanted to take advantage of a chance meeting to be so then he would have absolutely no problems with that. Yet she didn't, she spoke to Amaya and Amaya came closer, commenting on the way he was training only to prompt a grin from him and he shook his head, waving his hands a bit as he opened the bento box as Kiyone moved back, in no hurry to gather up his pipe.

With the hands of a man who was quite hungry and quick fingers, despite his wounds, Jinseie quickly plied the chopsticks out of the box and began working on the food; Kiyone had a lot of good qualities but one he'd begun to appreciate more and more lately was her ability to cook and prepare food. His meals once upon a time consisted of quick bits of rice and meat with tea and water, or the other little bits of food he could pick together. Now he ate like, in his perspective, a king and it was all because of her. As he stuffed his face, he began to talk between bites and breaths. "Nah, I'm- hn, trying to take it easier. It's this training style I found i- nn, in fighting manuals...You work your bones until they break a little, then rest them. Supposed to help them harden, let me improve my hands so I can fight without breaking them for real." he explained, grinning a little. There was a few pieces of rice stuck to his lips, which he cleaned quickly with the side of his hand.

His arm now came over to Kiyone, pulling his pipe from her hand to take a brief inhale himself. Jinseie didn't smoke anything dangerous or inhibiting, simple herbal mixes and ground powder filler. Once upon a time he'd smoked tobacco and other substances, but nothing dangerous or hazardous to health since he had begun dating Kiyone. "It's been a while since I've seen you. Been keeping up on everything?" he asked, exhaling as he spoke to cause a wild trail to flow from his mouth.

Jinseie got a moment of side-eye as he started to both eat and talk at the same time, her lips curling into a bit of a grin as she relaxed against him and the rock. Her grin didn't quite reach up to her eyes though, she'd be lying she be pretended to be completely alright with her boyfriend purposely breaking himself just to make himself more durable. She didn't ask him to stop, she was there to help bandage himself up after his training, he wouldn't be Jinseie otherwise.

"There is a medic at the hospital who has agreed to help me learn to set and mend bones with chakra, I agree it is a great place to practice and learn more Iijutsu. I dislike to see people in pain but it goes hand in hand with being a medic, I knew what it was before I decided," she agreed with the Shoshiki. Being a medic was not an easy task, even less so with something inside making you *feel* the surface emotions of those around you, the hospital was a great place to intern and train but also horrible for her.

Amaya had heard of this style of training, though being a Shoshiki, she had never seen that happen within her own clan. Physical strength wasn't something the clan was known for, so most members tried their best to avoid such fighting style. She grinned as she had to admit that it was something she always felt jealous of but ultimately knew that it there was no point trying to change what was out of her hands. Amaya knew that she could still learn how to fight with weapons but with her Garaton skills, she could overcome it with ease, though Wana was still there to deter people from closing up on her.

"Yeah, though fortunately it helps build character. There's nothing more daunting than hearing people scream in pain, that stuff fortifies ones soul. It also makes it easier for us out on the field, we at least know what we are hoping to prevent. Though... I am sure that others have to experience the pain we cause onto them." Amaya looked away for there was no right answer to such actions. She knew that ninjas were responsible for atrocities in others eyes but at the end of the day they had to protect what was theirs.

She sighed before her eyes returned to Jinsei's. "I sense that you haven't really heard what happen to me? I was sent away to do border patrol, so... No, not really, though it did well to help me become a better ninja and hunter. I just wished that I didn't have to face peoples judgement all over again, but that's probably a discussion for another time." Amaya chuckled and scratched the back of her head. "How about you two? Hows life been? Save for the obvious..." Amaya blushed and giggled, she wanted to ask them how they got together before she realized that it would probably be inappropriate.

To say Jinseie has isolated himself once he'd taken the role of protector of the Jinchuuriki was an understatement. He all but disappeared socially and the missions or jobs he took had become those related to his task; Training Kiyone, training himself, working on his presentability and the various reports he'd had to make had all taken up whatever time he wasn't training for what amount to fun and reinforcing himself. It was quite an odd mentality that his break from training in protecting his girlfriend was training in other ways...Jinseie was an odd one.

Still, he didn't make his characteristic grin when Amaya spoke abotu what happened to her, shaking his head lightly as he sat up a little against Kiyone, his hands moving to rest on his lap as he considered what Amaya had been through. "I didn't know, I'm sorry. I've had other things on my mind and I didn't keep up on much myself...Sorry! Now that Kiyone and I have permission to start taking missions again, though, maybe we can catch up that way?" he asked, looking to Kiyone for her own confirmation.

He didn't really say much to their comments on how medical treatment strengthened the stomach and nerve; He'd trained himself to the point of needing medical attention many times in the past, before he had a reason to hold back and before he realized weeks of recovery were highly counterproductive to his growth. He was trying to get more responsible, though it was taking time to actually pull himself up that way. He looked to Kiyone with a smile at that thought, grinning to himself and leaning in to kiss the side of her head. It was a slight affectionate gesture and he hardly even reddened at it, seeming quite comfortable with the display.

"Ah, it just kinda happened..."
