The Uchiha compound was functionally complete. While there was still scaffolding to disassemble here and there along with a few cosmetic touches to complete it was for the most part, done. The weather was notably pleasant this particular day, the sun gently caressed the land below with rays of sunlight as a fresh gentle breeze drafted through the Shinan Valley. The compound's largest structure was home to the main branch of the family and contained the Clan Leader's office, to approach this building would require follow a path through an artificial garden. This garden a miniature paradise compared to the rest of the compound and it's surrounding area, a gentle stream ran through the center originating from somewhere in the mountains and making it's way down into Iwagakure. Cherry blossom grew here the leaves gentle falling from the tree like snow drops in the wind, the gentle rustling of trees and running water made for a tranquil atmosphere.

There was another sound that joined the atmosphere, a lone bamboo flute played a calming melody that fitted the surroundings rather well. On the way towards the main building, where the stream and path met each other a small narrow wooden bridge allowed access to the other side. The bridge was only wide enough for a single person to cross and was no longer than five or six paces, it would be just as easy to step over the stream however it seemed to work with the aesthetic. The rich cedar wood of the bridge and red painted railings gave it the kinda of look you would see in a monastery, next to the bridge was a sizeable boulder standing some four meters tall. Not far ahead from this boulder was the entrance to the main building yet, resting against this boulder was a young boy of fourteen in his hands a bamboo flute.

Seemingly the source of this noise the boy was accompanied by an audience, resting her head against him was a girl of seventeen she wore the flack jacket of a Chuunin of Iwagakure. Her raven black hair cut short only coming to the start of her neck, it had a kind of wild appearance to it just like the feathers of a Raven. She seemed to be at peace listening to the melody the flute was putting forth, she had a certain tomboyish nature about her face it was not unattractive but her nose had been reset once or twice at the very least it seemed.

Relaxing in a tree across from the boulder was the eldest of the audience, on the left of his face large burn scars lay over the top of a once handsome face. The left eye seemingly welded shut by the scars and beyond repair, his dark brunette hair cut very short so the balding from the scar was not as prominent. He sank his teeth into an apple and seemed to be enjoying the taste, he too was listening intently to the music while he relaxed. At the base of the tree an excited pair of twins chased each other round the tree, they seemed to be around the age of six or seven. The boy the younger looking of the pair rushed around the tree in chase of his sister, a mischievous look on his face.

"I am the greatest Ninja that ever lived! Run in fear of my awesome power!" The boy laughed boisterously in triumph his hair standing up on end in a wild fashion, he looked like something had blown up in his face and a large degree of static was now holding his hair on end. His mad scientist hairdo was jet black just like the young girl he was chasing around the tree, it was easy to tell they were twins. The twin sister had long flowing hair, it was neatly kept and seemed to retain it's neatness despite how fast she ran from her brother currently, the pair were wearing matching colours with their outfits. He wore a white Gi clearly not long back from some martial arts training, he ran barefoot around the tree. His sister wore a white kimono with a cherry blossom pattern woven in to the fabric, she already began to show signs of the beauty she would grow to be one day.

"Settle down Mitsuo, Mizuko. Your brother and I are trying to listen to Yuji play." The girl leaning against the boy playing the flute spoke gently to her younger siblings, she knew that once they got excited there was very little that could stop the pair getting into mischief. Yuji continued to play the flute through this, he was lost in the music not really noticing the noise his younger siblings were making.

The older sibling atop the tree began moving his hands, the twins who had paused their running about watched as he signed to them. The pair then turned and grinned at each other and resumed their loud antics around the base of the tree. "You are too soft on them Eiji!" The girl rose her head from resting on her brother, brushing aside the hair that had fallen across her face. She was looking directly at Eiji in the tree, shaking her head in disapproval as the brother shrugged in a non-committal manner.

Footsteps could be heard coming down the pathway as a group of officials seemed to be making their way down towards the compound's main building, only Eiji and the girl noticed as Mitsuo and Mizuko were busy playing after all. Yuji continued to be lost in music as the visitors approached their home. The melody carried out loud enough to be heard throughout the entire garden, he often came here to practice and was joined by his siblings whenever they had free time. He was not sure how often he would be able to continue this practice now that he had graduated, his thoughts before focused on the music were drawn to the band tied around his arm. The village insignia etched into the metal work displaying the village that he served, Yuji was still unsure how he felt about the headband was it a symbol of pride or a collar for a pet? The brief lapse in focus on the music was enough for him to detect the arrival of the visitors as they reached the bridge right next to where they were relaxing, he opened his eyes slowly to see who it was approaching their home.

It was impressive, really, how quickly the Uchiha and the village built a compound for the newest additions to Iwagakure no Sato. It wasn't unheard of for a building to go up - or down, since a majority of the village was underground - within several months. But to construct a compound with such elaborate architecture and expertly arranged gardens that were fit for the elite in such a short period of time was truly a feat, especially considering the Uchiha did not have much wealth in comparison to clans that have existed in Iwa for generations. It took a while to get through all the red tape and ceremony, but once the Uchiha were truly accepted as a clan of the Hidden Rock Village no time was wasted.

With construction nearing completion, the village leaders thought it best to inspect the grounds. Typically Iwagakure did not put so much energy in poking around clan matters, but the Uchiha were a special case. They were new faces with new abilities, and for a village full of people who were slow to trust and change it seemed prudent to keep a watchful eye on the clan. Observant, but not overbearing. After all, trust went both ways.

"They have decent taste in architecture considering they were a bunch of nomads not too long ago." A dark haired woman who appeared to be in her early twenties crossed the gate into the compound, turning her neck in a birdlike way to look around at the nearby residences. "Not how I would have arranged it all, but it's not my compound I suppose."

"I'd say see if you can do better but you don't have a clan to even have such a compound, Reina." A man who walked closely next to the woman Reina smirked, tossing back his long black hair that was braided into a neat ponytail. He appeared roughly the same age as the woman and was the tallest of the group - though not by much - and he carried a long blade on his back. The woman had a shorter, similar one strapped to her side, and she tapped it in a mock threat. The two bickered in jest for a moment, stopping only when a loud groan came from behind them. They turned as a small boy pushed roughly past them, a scowl on his face that reflected the aggravation in his outburst. The two snickered and followed behind him, heading toward what was very obviously the main building of the compound.

As they drew closer the boy groaned again, falling behind as his two companions crossed the small bridge ahead of him. "Hey there!" the man said with a friendly wave as they approached. "We're here to meet with the clan's leader and his family. Hopefully he is expecting us. We're here for a bit of a tour of the place."

Yuji took in the sight of the three visitors before them, he was not in the least bit impressed the manner they were dressed in was far too official for his liking. Supposedly the village was to be their home now, yet here they were checking up on the Uchiha making sure they adhered to the rules. His uncle had always said that you should never go looking for trouble where trouble doesn't exist, the thought of his uncle still brought with it grief even seven years hadn't changed that.

Shiori was the first to speak, adopting her usual crude manner when speaking to anyone but her siblings. "Ehh?! Who is askin'? Trapsing up here in your fancy clothes and yo-" Her voice came across as blunt, uncultured and downright rude, her attitude seemed to scream that she was itching for a fight. While she had certainly become popular among some in Iwagakure her personality was definitely an acquired taste, she often spent many a night drinking with the older craftsmen who tended to enjoy her refreshing personality as they called it.

Eiji interrupted her before she could go any further, sliding down off the tree and landing gracefully with minimal effort. His first acknowledgement wasn't to the pair in the lead but to the Bannin accompanying them he gave a formal nod towards the young Shinobi behind. He then gave a slight bow to the ones who had approached not yet sure of their station but still remaining respectful, Eiji signed to them but it was Yuji who spoke. "My brother welcomes you to our home and apologises for our sister's, tactless greeting." His voice had a cold air about it, he was speaking on behalf of his brother but it was clear he didn't share the feeling behind them.

It was the laughter of the twins that broke the icy tension as they ran up to the woman, Mitsuo stood behind his little sister as Mizuko tugged at the lady's dress. "Your dress is really pretty miss." A soft voice spoke in an almost shy fashion, Mizuko blushed a little as she did a little curtsy and retreated with behind her brother who was grinning in a wild fashion.

"I am Mitsuo! I am going to be the greatest shinobi this village has ever seen just you wait!" He laughed boisterously, he turned to his sister and his eyes flashed red as a single tomoe orbited the Sharingan the young boy had active. His sister joined him in activating her own bloodline and with that their play became far more rough than it had before, their speed had increased for a start as the boy chased his agile twin sister while she darted from tree to tree. Eiji and Shiori looked on with pride at their younger siblings abilities already beginning to blossom at such a young age, the pair nor the village elders noticed the pained expression on Yuji's face at the sight of his younger siblings use of the Sharingan.

While this game of tag played out overhead Yuji cleared his throat and began to speak in a far softer voice, almost as soft as his younger sister. "Perhaps we should start again with introductions, I am Uchiha Yuji second son of Uchiha Kazuo. This is my brother Eiji firstborn son to Uchiha Kazuo and heir to the Uchiha clan." He gestured to his brother for him to continue, the introductions were swift from there as Eiji began to sign for Yuji to translate. Shiori was sent to fetch their father, as Eiji continued to move his hands in an elegant manner making it look like an art form. "While you wait we would be honoured to give you a tour, it is not everyday we get visitors after all."

The man who greeted them raised his brows at the girl, pausing to look down at his clothes with an exaggerated expression of surprise. He had put quite a bit of effort into picking his outfit: a dark blue and black set of robes, gold threads twisting and turning to form petals and branches on his sleeves and down the left side. The sash that secured his sword to his back was powder blue and silver, combining with his robes in a way that was quite fashionable and pleasing to the eye. It practically shouted that they were here on formal, official business. "I'm just pleased she called my clothes 'fancy.'"

The girl beside him wore a form fitting dress, pink and purple with designs similar to her companion's. It stopped just above her knees, showing off her black lace leggings and ankle boots. Her sword hung from her hip on a silver belt, wide and dotted with semi-precious stones. She'd never admit it but it took ages to save up for such a luxurious piece. She beamed as the youngest of the children behaved as children often do, thanking the little girl before she ran off.

"I'm Iwasa Hisaki, jounin. I work for the Department of Interior Development in my free time. This is-"

"Tamura Chinami. Jounin. I keep him in line."

Hisaki rolled his eyes and took a step back, motioning toward the last of the trio who still lingered behind. "This, of course, is Lord Akari Kotaru. The newest bannin of Iwagakure." Kotaru, barely paying attention, tugged at his sleeves that were just shy of being too long. He had chosen not to wear his official bannin robes; he hated wearing such stifling attire and felt it made him stand out too much. Instead he wore a long sleeved teal and dark grey haori that stopped at his calf muscles, fashioned to look similar to the robes but not nearly as pretentious. It lacked the fine embroidery and the detail of the robes that someone of his status was expected to wear to official meetings, but it suited his understated sense of style.

"Pleasure," he droned, though his tone indicated anything but. His scowl was downright churlish as he gave the family of Uchiha a look over and then gave a small sigh, a sort of growl reverberating in the back of his throat. He locked eyes with Eiji and deadpanned, "If you giving us a tour will make this tedious bullshit go by faster then I'm all for it." Behind him, the two jounin rubbed their temples and mouthed their apologies.

Yuji threw Kotaru a sickly sweet smile in response to his remark, ignoring the apologies of the Jounin that he accompanied. "The first stop on the tour can always be the way out, if it is such a tedium to be here you can then just skip out on the rest of the tour." Eiji nudged an elbow into Yuji's ribs, a sharp breath was drawn from the impact.

The office was illuminated only by candlelight, Uchiha Kazuo had heard the music grow silent. His brow furrowed at this, it had been a distraction from his work when it first started this morning and now that it had stopped it was causing yet another distraction. Standing up from his desk Kazuo made his way to the open window of his office, peering down below he spotted some unfamiliar people. His Sharingan flared up as he focused in on the visitors attempting to identify them, his stern expression unchanging as he saw the Bannin and two Jounin greeting his offspring.

Eiji turned to the visitors and bowed apologetically for his younger brother's attitude, Yuji frowned but knew it would be unwise to push it any further. The tour began in the main hall of their home, a large mosaic patterned the tiled floor with the Uchiha crest. The interior was much darker, the only light coming dimly from a few lit braziers around the edge of the room. A staircase led further up the building likely up to the office of the Clan leader and residential area of the main branch, it was on the current floor however there tour would commence.

It was the older brother who led the way while Yuji translated, occasionally Yuji kept glancing over at the Bannin. What was his deal anyways? Why was he here? These were just some of the questions he had going through his mind, questions he hoped would be answered. Surely it was enough that two Jounin came to check up on the Clan, the whole thing seemed a little odd to be sure. They entered a large communal dining area, it seemed big enough to fit a good portion of the clan in. "We try to keep regular meals scheduled here, trying to keep the communal nature of our Clan going as it was when we were nomadic. It is always important for family to look out for one another after all." The room contained a large fire pit in the centre of the room, the tables circled around it. While it was currently lifeless the firepit look as if it could breath warmth and light into the room at a moments notice. Behind the head seat of the banquest feast a large tapestry hung a large embroided pattern of the clan crest was included in the design, under the clan crest however was the symbol of Iwagakure. Kazuki's last hope was for them to find a way to unite with one another for the benefit of both, Yuji still was not sure they would benefit from this especially in light of the recent visit and such.

Yuji had heard about the Akari while he was studying at the academy, they supposedly ate people or something. He couldn't imagine a clan like that put much stock in family, he wondered if they were truly a clan at all or just a collection of oddities that had banded together. The tour continued on through the family Dojo, a private sparring area for the main branch of the Uchiha. There was of course a large dojo facility located on the compound open to all, this was the place that Yuji and the others would have their lessons any other sparring was usually reserved for the main Dojo facilities.

"The Uchiha of course take great pride in their martial arts prowess, it was all we had prior to Ninjutsu after all. That, as well as our bloodline's gift." The Family Dojo held an indoor and outdoor sparring area, the outdoor was more akin to a miniature Colosseum a perfectly round room with step like effect leading to a lowered section of floor where combat would take place. The room itself was made of a marble like material, in the lowered section a thin layer of sand coated the floor likely to provide uneven footing to overcome. Yuji continued to translate Eiji's signing while they stood within this training space, the twins joined them at this point also seemingly done with their game of tag for the meantime and were curious as to the goings on of adults now.

Kotaru looked toward the cheeky boy who had been translating, and his already dour expression stiffened further. "Trust me," he began, the cadence of his words slow as if he was deliberately making sure every syllable was understood, "I have no interest in looking around this place. But it's my job as a Bannin of this village to make sure your people...assimilate. Not to mention I'll have to write tedious reports when I'm done here. So try not to piss me off too much." After the exchange they began the tour, Kotaru's face and posture exuding boredom and disinterest.

Though he didn't appreciate it, the building was truly beautiful. It was obvious the Uchiha put much thought and dedication into building their new home, and he could see where their new influence as residents of Iwagakure influenced the décor. Here and there he saw the village symbol, or certain designs and features that emulated that of other buildings in Iwa. They walked through the dining hall, and Kotaru paused briefly to seemingly admire the tapestry, but he walked away with his expression largely unchanged. The dojo wasn't especially interesting - he had seen plenty - and he moved through silently behind the young Uchiha siblings.

Kotaru's shoulders visibly tensed the moment they entered the colosseum-like arena. He paused, his eyes flickering up toward the sky as a small flock of birds flew overhead, squawking loudly before moving out of view. When he spoke again his voice was strained and much quieter. "I don't know much about your bloodline, honestly. I only skimmed your files and reports this morning before coming here." He slowly walked forward, his boots crunching heavily atop the sand as his eyes moved from seat to seat. His jounin companions frowned and shot each other a look, but remained silent out of respect of the young leader. "Eventually there will be a call for some sort of exhibition. The village leaders are interested in how your people have been adjusting, and what all you've learned as a clan since coming here. Once we're confident about the Uchiha there will little to no interference from our end. We leave clans to their own devices, so long as they stay loyal to the village."

He turned on his heel, his haori billowing around him as he looked between the two eldest siblings. "How long until the clan leader joins us? This would be much faster if I talked to him directly. I didn't come here to talk to his kids."

Yuji had kept a close eye on the bannin after his remark, he was familiar that the title held some degree of weight in the village this much he had learned at the academy. Yuji still did not fully understand any things about this village, it was one thing to be told how things worked but another to understand how they worked. He had always been this way, preferring to rely on his own experience of things as opposed to the words of others since their perspectives could be obscured by time or their own personal bias.

"The sooner you stop poking into our affairs the better." Yuji's love for his clan coming in fierce in response to the Bannin's disinterested statement on the current goings on between clan and village, he was nothing if not proud of his clan and this kid's attitude was rubbing him the wrong way."Our clan wouldn't have lost to Iwa had you not resorted to such underhanded..." Yuji did not get to finish his statement or answer the Bannin's question on the whereabouts of his father, before Eiji could even silence his brother's outburst a deep voice cleared it's throat.

Uchiha Kazuo stood there in his clan's formal wear, he had some powerful features on his face. A solid jawline set the tone for the rest of his face, around his eyes however was the signs of an overworked man. This was accented further by the stern expression on his face, furrowed brows tightened not even allowing anyone time to acknowledge his arrival he spoke. "Lord Akari, you do my clan a great honour coming here. I would have been down sooner however the paperwork involved in the construction work has caught up with me at last, I am sure you understand being in a position of responsibility yourself after all." His words were formality but there was little feeling behind them, he had no love for the Iwagakure Shinobi this was clear but was willing to play politics for the survival of his clan. Stood at his side in a dutiful manner was Shiori, she looked more like a bodyguard than a daughter an equally stern expression on her face.

"I appreciate there is still not a great deal of understanding as to our clan's abilities, I agree an exhibition of some shape or form would be beneficial for both parties. Mitsuo!" He called the young child's name in a demanding manner as if issuing an order rather than calling to his offspring, the young twin stopped in the middle of teasing his twin sister. The atmosphere among siblings had changed the moment their father had announced himself, in unison they bowed towards him.

"Yes father?" The young boy beamed a smile up at Kazuo yet his posture was that of an obedient servant, he had taken a knee in front of his clan leader.

"You and Yuji will demonstrate to our guests the abilities of the Uchiha." Mitsuo looked pumped at the mention of a duel, he practically danced his way into the Colosseum like room. Eiji motioned the guests to the side of the arena where seating was being prepared by servants, a coordinated efficient effort to prepare for their guests.

Yuji reluctantly made his way down to the opposite end from his younger brother, he glanced over to where the guests were being seated. "Father must I fight? Can't you ask someone else? Shiori or Eiji would be more than willing." A pained expression on Yuji's face, it was clear he was not the kind of person who enjoyed violence but there was something else behind this also.

"You would defy me in front of our guests?" Kazuo did not raise his voice but the displeasure dripped off every word, the stern look replaced with one of genuine anger. Yuji did not respond his head turned to face the ground, no snarky comment or comeback was heard. Yuji bit his lower lip in frustration, taking a long drawn out breath to ready himself Yuji took a ready stance. Uchiha Kazuo sat down in his chair, he waved his hand to signal them to begin.

Yuji was off to a rapid start covering the distance between the pair quick and low, a sweeping kick was delivered towards Mitsuo. It would have been a devastating blow had the young child still been stood there, the child had jumped over the leg and spun into a kick of his own. The blow struck Yuji on the right side of his face and sent him sprawling backwards, pushing off the ground using the momentum of the fall to spring himself back to his feet. Mitsuo's eyes seemed to follow his every movement with inhuman precision, the red glow of his eyes was an unsettling site too. Not only was it keeping track of the fight going on but to those who had an eye for quick movements they would notice that the boy's glance flicked all over the place, the Sharingan was taking into account the entire room and it's occupants not just the ongoing battle.

What was equally impressive was the child's ability to react on such a rapid intake of information, not even giving Yuji a chance to regain his balance fully Mitsuo had already dashed over to where Yuji had landed. Bringing a knee up high under the chin of his older brother Mitsuo yelled out in triumph as he sent his brother flipping backwards landing head first in the sand, Yuji slid a little across the sand lying there for a brief moment while his kid brother celebrated his triumph. There was one thing to be said for the older brother however was his endurance, Yuji began to drag himself off the ground standing back up bruising already setting in where the knee had connected. He spat out blood before readopting his stance tightening his defences he motioned for his brother to bring the fight to him.

"That's the spirit brother! Ready or not here I come!" Mitsuo roared with excitement as he closed the distance with such an agility that was rare among such a young age, a well timed block from Yuji softened the right hook that Mitsuo started with. Yuji struck out at his younger brother knocking Mitsuo backwards, the younger sibling was unfazed by this strike and stepped straight back into range beginning a barrage of jabs leaving Yuji blocking as his only option. It was here the fight would be over as the youngster pushed off the ground with considerable force.

Yuji lay on his back, dazed from the blow that had broken his guard and knocked his senses. He loathed the sparring sessions that involved the Sharingan as he never stood a chance, if only he had it also the fight would have quickly become his own victory. He was aware of Mitsuo's combat flaws and how to exploit them but he just couldn't keep up with those movements, to make matters worse he couldn't even outpace the processing speed of those eyes how quick and precise they sent information to the brain.

"I believe that is a good taste of what our clan is capable of, that is not all mind but surely that should be saved for another occasion. What say you?" Kazuo glanced at Yuji and held only disappointment for his second born, he turned back to the pair of Jounin and the Akari Bannin.

Kotaru's gaze fell upon Yuji, his eyes flashing with irritation that resembled anger. Next to him Hisaki stepped forward slightly, humming nervously as he tried to think of a way to best diffuse the situation. He hadn't worked with Kotaru much at all, but many jounin knew of his temper and predilection toward cruelly putting others in their place. Despite his rank, there were times that the young Akari still seemed as though he had something to prove - that he had earned his rank and any contrary thoughts from others were intolerable.

But had he known Kotaru better he would have understood that he was simply aggravated, not nearly baited far enough into any sort of retaliation. The Bannin didn't understand such a defensiveness toward one's own clan, especially not the sort of pride that would put down the village. As if perfectly timed, however, the aforementioned clan leader appeared, his expression quickly silencing his son. He hummed dismissively at the mention of his responsibilities; that wasn't a topic he liked to dwell upon.

To his surprise, Uchiha Kazuo immediately called upon his children for a demonstration. After the tense exchange between father and son, Kotaru hadn't moved toward the seated area; instead he stood with his face scrunched in confusion. "I didn't mean right now," he huffed, as if that were obvious. Chinami quickly interjected. "I think what the young lord means is, some of the village leaders and other clan heads might want to be in attendance. If you would like to wait-"

"It's fine. He's already decided. If this is how they do things then we'll go along with it." The Akari sat beside Kazuo, and the two older shinobi stood dutifully behind him. He propped his elbow on the arm rest and rested his head in his palm, not sure what these children could offer in the way of an exhibition. The young one he was especially unsure about; even talented academy aged children weren't exactly the kind of thing Kotaru would choose to watch, and despite Yuji's clear reluctance to fight, the bannin fully expected the older sibling to make quick work of the other.

But then the match started. The little one - Mitsuo - moved with impressive speed and skill for someone so young and he made quick work of the older brother. The difference in the two was painfully obvious; Kotaru noticed from the start that the older combatant didn't use the Uchiha doujutsu - something the Bannin knew helped with their perception and reactions - and that their movements were hardly comparable. Behind him, the two jounin nodded in appreciation, impressed by the show. But Kotaru remained straightfaced. For a moment he simply stared, his face half hidden by his hand and blinking slowly as was his habit when he was taking something in serious consideration.

Finally he lowered his hand from his face and spoke, "Not what I expected, honestly. You've taught your son a lot - well, the younger one. But the older one - Yuji, was it? - didn't use his sharingan. Hardly seems like a fair fight." He gestured toward the two siblings, wiggling his finger from one brother to the other as he gazed at the hitai-ate on Yuji's right arm. "Shouldn't it be the other way around? A shinobi, even a genin, should wipe the floor with an academy student." His icy green eyes never left Yuji; other than being clearly unimpressed, it would be difficult to discern much else from his gaze. "Honestly if you wanted to impress me you should have both of them use their sharingan."

Yuji picked himself up while the Bannin was speaking, Kotaru's voice carried well enough across the sparring area the way it was designed gave the Colosseum great acoustics. Kazuo nodded his head in gratitude elegantly at the compliment directed at Mitsuo, his eyes narrowed at the mention of Yuji and his lack of the Sharingan. It was a reaction that would go unnoticed however, a battered Yuji clenched his fists and stared straight at the bannin with a look of unfiltered rage. His voice came through far more aggressive it was still higher pitched due to his natural vocal range but the feeling behind his words was conveyed. "What would you know about our clan?! To us the Sharingan is everything, it isn't like he set rules for this bout genius! Don't you think if I could..."

"Enough! Not another word out of you boy! All of you leave us, I would speak to the visitors alone. It was the first instance that Kazuo had raised his voice, it was a tone of a mood that had reached boiling point. All of his children with the exception of Eiji were on edge as the words cut deep into them, Yuji opened his mouth as if to speak further but one look from his father silenced him immediately.

"Father I think it best..." Shiori began her voice very different from how she had spoken to the Jounin earlier, far softer and refined in her speech but she too was interrupted by her father who held up a single hand to dismiss her. Eiji was the last left of his offspring, his single functioning eye only held apathy for the entire affair he gave a slight nod to his father and a deep bow to the bannin along with his companions before swivelling on a heel and moving gracefully away from the group.

Yuji had been the first to get out of there shooting a look at Kotaru as he left, behind the rage was embarrassment to have his shame shown publicly even to only a small group of people had been his worst nightmare and now it was realised. The look he gave Kotaru conveyed both the anger and embarrassment behind the anger very plainly. He didn't give the Bannin any chance to acknowledge or retort, it didn't matter if he did as far as he was concerned nothing mattered now his career was done. He went out to the Uchiha gardens, there was nowhere else he could go after all; there he took his frustrations out on the trees. Yelling and cursing at them, he paced back and forth in his irritation before slumping against the boulder from earlier. Sinking his head into his hands Yuji began to despair over his situation.

Kazuo waited for the others to leave, he raised a single hand to his forehead massaging his head a little as he shook his head. He let out a sigh through his nose, lowering his hand after a very brief pause. "I apologise for the outburst, I am afraid he is becoming more troublesome each day. My children are my greatest pride and my biggest shame, Eiji activated his sharingan at the age of twelve, the twins activated theirs last year." He gestured that they follow him as he began making his way to the Clan office, he continued to talk as they moved through the compound's main building.

"Even Shiori who activated later than the others activated hers at thirteen, Yuji has yet to unlock his own. You can clearly see the difference between a clan member with and one without, an Uchiha without the Sharingan is of no use to the clan or the village." He opened the door to his office, the disappointment was thick in his voice it permeated through each word. "I had considered exiling him from the clan as we have done in the past, then he went and became an Iwagakure Shinobi and that no longer was a viable option."

The office itself was organised chaos, Kazuo's desk laden with scrolls and paperwork they continued to fill up various spaces in the room. Up on the wall was a map of Rock country that seemed to be extremely detailed, above it was an engraving of the Uchiha Insignia. The room was only lit with candlelight and a small beam of light coming from the single open window of the office, the window provided a good view of the entire compound not just the main building's surroundings but the homes of all the clan members and facilities that went with them.

Kazuo picked up a large stack of paper and made his way over to the Bannin, he glanced through the paperwork quickly. "Here we go, the paperwork on construction and all other information requested by the council. It took some time to gather all the necessary paperwork, that is the last step of the Uchiha becoming a part of this village for good sorted out." He began to pass the papers over but withdrew them before anyone could take them from him. "I have one more request if you would humour me, Yuji may never be a good Uchiha but he may still stand a chance as a shinobi. Lord Kotaru, would you take him under your wing? I can't imagine there is much you could do with him, that being said maybe he could still become less of a disappointment. Who knows I might be able to even stand the sight of him after a while, besides think of it as an opportunity to continue monitoring us and learn about the clan further. It could be of great benefit to both the clan and Iwa, what say you?" Holding the paperwork ransom till he got his answer Kazuo stared straight into the bannin's eyes with cold callous precision, his eyes had that unnatural perception of the Sharingan about them and yet he didn't even have the ability active.

Kotaru and the two jounin sat in silence as the clan leader admonished his children, his tone as harsh as his stern, near expressionless features. When Yuji shot the Akari a furious look, Kotaru simply stared back. Initially his expression was blank, but it briefly twisted to one of tightly pursed lips and raised brows that conveyed the awkwardness of the situation. It was an embarrassing display, one that would not have happened had Kazuo not put his pride on the line. The Bannin scratched his head with a single finger as the children were dismissed, and once they were finally out of sight he turned his head toward the Uchiha leader. He followed the man's lead and walked with him with the two now-somber jounin in tow.

As the man talked about his children Kotaru's jaw clenched tighter and tighter. He was familiar with that tone, that of scathing paternal disdain for a son that was considered a hindrance and embarrassment to the rest of the family. When he spoke that word - exile - the Akari stopped dead in his tracks. Chinami and Hisaki walked past him a few paces before stopping and looking back at him quizzically.

Disgust spilled into his chest. It was as if he was taken back to his own childhood, when he still lived with his parents and in the shadow of their abhorrence toward him, their only living child, whenever he entered a room. His eyes darkened with loathing, alarming his two companions as the palpable, dangerous change in Kotaru's demeanor began to overtake him. "Lord...Lord Akari?" The boy parted his lips briefly to respond, but instead of speaking he tightened his lips again. It was difficult - near impossible - for the boy to stay quiet, but in the three months since his promotion to such an esteemed position he was slowly learning restraint. He couldn't lash out in the same way he used to without shaming himself and the village. He was expected to be more, and although at most times he loathed the responsibilities of a Bannin he tried to live up to those expectations.

When Kotaru entered the man's office he waved at the two jounin to wait near the door. He took little notice of the mess and the dim lighting; instead his focus was entirely on Kazuo, and his gaze remained heavy and scornful. "How generous of you," he hissed, uninterested in the paperwork after hearing the man's belittling words toward his son. "You have no confidence in him - you wanted to exile him - but you want me to train him? Do you even fucking hear yourself?" The mask of strained professionalism was quickly peeling away. He didn't waver beneath the man's sharp gaze. Kotaru matched it instead, but his own eyes were filled with fiery disapproval and with every word he spoke his voice raised in volume.

"You shit on your son because he doesn't learn as fast as your other kids. You embarrassed him to prove a point. You say you can't stand the sight of him so instead you throw him at my feet. What the fuck kind of fa-"

"Lord Akari-!"

"SHUT UP!" With a flash of movement he grabbed the hand that had found his shoulder, twisting it sharply and the bones began to pop and crack. Hisaki shouted in pain, but before he or Chinami could properly react Kotaru had released him. All the while he had not taken his eyes off of Kazuo. The boy's breaths came in small, slow pants after giving a small taste of his anger. He forced himself to remember why he was there, to focus on his duty rather than his personal feelings. Eventually, with great effort, his features slowly began to resemble a calmer expression. "Congratulations. If that's how you do things then your clan will fit in just fine here."

After allowing a pause he added, "I don't usually take students. But since I'm here to monitor your clan, as you helpfully mentioned, and if that's the way you want to do things then I'll accept. For now." He crossed his arms, continuing to stare down the man. "Bring him to me."

Yuji picked himself up from his slump in the Uchiha gardens, his face still twisted with frustration he glanced up at the open window of his father's office. Curiosity overcame his anger, with feline grace he made quick work of climbing the building perching himself outside. Resting on a small ledge running along underneath the open window, Yuji was tucked out of sight but was within earshot as the group arrived in the office. His anger quickly returned as his father spoke, mention of Yuji never being a good Uchiha cut deep.

What happened next took the young Uchiha by surprise, the bannin of all people spoke out against his father in Yuji's defence. The Uchiha's eyes widened as he listened to the tongue lashing Kotaru gave his father, part of him his loyal side to the clan wanted to jump to his father's defence but the shock of someone taking his side left him stunned in silence. Tears welled up in the corners of his eyes, he pushed off from the ledge not listening to the conversation any further not hearing the response to his father's request.

Kazuo stood expressionless in the face of the young bannin's anger, Kazuo assumed from Kotaru's perspective he may have seen himself as a raging torrent of anger. Kazuo just saw a child having a temper tantrum in front of him, even if the child was a skilled shinobi his immaturity still showed through. The clan leader had spent a lifetime honing his skills of observation and perception, he was not so foolish as to miss when someone was holding back but the diplomat inside him kept his composure firm.
"I appreciate your distaste in my attitude towards our clan's way of doing things, however it is how we conduct ourselves the Sharingan is everything to our clan. In future keep your opinions on our affairs to yourself, you are a guest in our compound still your actions represent Iwagakure's interest after all."

The clan leader outstretched his arm holding the paperwork offering it to the bannin, his disinterest in holding a conversation on how to raise his children showed. "It will reflect badly on the both of us if you do not take this paperwork. I will have the boy sent to you, if you would wait for him in dojo I have work I must attend to. Matters the Juukyuudaime and council have asked me to attend to now we are fully established here." If Kota did not take the paperwork he would force it into the hands of one of the other Jounin on his way to the door, opening it giving clear indication it was time to leave.
Yuji made his way straight to the Dojo without even realising he was going to be summoned there shortly, he made it there before Kotaru had even been asked to leave his father's office. Unaware of what had been further said Yuji began practising his shuriken throw, his precision was not bad for a genin but was still obviously the skill of an amateur in comparison to those who had been shinobi longer. One of the shots went slightly wide and buried itself in the wall behind the target, Yuji thrust his hands into his pockets tilting his head to the side. "Tch. So lame." Yuji was frustrated with himself more than he was with anyone, he knew he had the potential to be greater than this. It was not something he could explain to other people he just knew he was going to accomplish some big things for his clan, it was the strangest feeling knowing you could do better and yet not being able to follow through.

The boy didn't stop his lip from turning up into a brief snarl at the clan leader's "suggestion." No matter what the man said, Kotaru wasn't generally someone who silenced himself when he felt strongly about something. Although he usually kept to himself and didn't speak much, when he did speak he was blunt - rudely so, most of the time - and he saw no issue in how he responded to people. That is, until someone else pointed it out. The boy simmered and seethed when Kazuo offered the paperwork to him, and he reluctantly took it.

Once the Uchiha dismissed himself, the room fell into a long, tense silence. After what seemed like minutes, Kotaru turned to Hisaki with his face still looked into a scowl. Without a word he placed his hand directly over Hisaki's injured one, focusing his chakra until he produced a light green glow. It was only fractured, but it took a bit of concentration to mend the wound. It was his own way of apologizing for lashing out; saying those words was still difficult for him, and truthfully it felt empty without some sort of action to back it up. Hisaki looked at him with surprise, but he let the Bannin heal him.

As Kotaru finished his work, Chinami cleared her throat. "I have some advice, with your permission?" The boy gave her a quick look. His silence was permission enough. "That was obviously personal. Your outburst, I mean. You are still young, but you must understand that you cannot let your personal life get in the way of your work. The situation is still delicate."

"I know that," he replied, a bit of bite still in his words. He knew he was still young; he was reminded of it at every turn. At that moment her tone was borderline motherly, and it aggravated him for reasons he didn't want to mull over. It seemed as though that would be the end of it, but then he added quietly, "I'll try, alright? Now take these to my office."

After dismissing the jounin he made his way to the dojo, still tasting irritability that he struggled to swallow. When he arrived Yuji was already threre, throwing shuriken with clumsy technique that was typical of genin. "The only thing lame about today besides you getting your ass kicked by a six year old is being roped into training you. As your new sensei I'm obligated to tell you that your aim sucks." He approached the genin from his side, his arms folded across his chest, and when he was a next to Yuji with just a few feet between them he looked to the shuriken lodged into the wall.

"Your father seems to think you're shit because you don't have the sharingan yet. Kinda harsh." He took a moment to look Yuji up and down before adding, "What exactly are you good at then?"

Yuji turned to look over shoulder at the Bannin who had just spoken, his eyes widened for a fraction of a second before he composed himself. The news had not quite sunk in yet, he was going to be trained someone his own age how did that work? Yuji had just assumed he would receive his training from within the clan, to find that not to be the case was a possibility he had not considered. "Are you also obligated to point out when I lose a fight?" There was more caution in his rhetorical question than any animosity towards Kotaru, Yuji collected his shuriken and began placing them away while Kotaru continued to speak. He certainly hoped he didn't need to hear a repeat of when he lost, he was well aware thanks to the bruising setting in from his brother's attacks.

"Yeah... Mitsuo had always been more skilled in combat than myself, he is lot more like my elder brother in that respect." Yuji surprised himself with how open he was being about it to an outsider, then again Kotaru had just faced down his father so perhaps some degree of respect was to be afforded. He moved back over to where he had been practising throwing shuriken, he folded his arms across his chest as he began listing his skill set. "I have a very basic grasp on the clan's Taijutsu techniques, I prefer Ninjutsu though over Taijutsu. I currently have a small grasp on Katon techniques, it seems many of my clan have an affinity for Katon. I am also able to utilise some Iijutsu, I am the first of my clan that I know of to begin learning some Medical Ninjutsu."

Yuji looked at his feet for a moment kicking the ground ever so slightly, he then looked up at at Kotaru. "Nobody has ever stood up to him before, uhh thanks I guess." It did not come naturally to him, thanking an outsider was strange but it was clear an effort was made. Yuji was unsure what that would be worth to the Bannin, he had seen him as rude and spiteful sure he was still rude but perhaps that had been a hasty first judgement. "Our ages can't be that far apart, how did you get to where you are?" Yuji was still not fully sure of a Bannin's role in the village, they seemed to be somewhere above Jounin and from this visit it seems they held some sway within the village. He had heard that they could leave the village for long periods of time and not be seen or heard of for months, it was hard to believe that people like that existed within a village like Iwa.

The way his brother Eiji had bowed towards Kotaru had been very telling also, it was clear that there were those who revered the Bannin. Yuji was at the very least curious what was in store for him, being tutored by a Bannin was likely something that many would consider a great honour Yuji could not say he was all to fazed by this. A lack of appreciation for exactly how rare an opportunity like this was, even more so from Kotaru who was not known for taking on students. All manner of fantasies filled Yuji's head at this point, the pair travelling to fantastical lands and meeting strange people, Yuji getting to experience the world outside.

"Yes," Kotaru said in response to the question, punctuating it with a shrug. "That and pointing out what you're doing wrong. Which is a lot." He paused to listen to the Uchiha explain what skills he preferred, and although he looked directly at the genin and was attentive, Kotaru still managed to appear somewhat bored. His expression changed to that of confusion and even mild embarrassment when Yuji thanked him for stepping up to his father.

At first he mumbled incoherently and looked away. In the rare times he had been thanked he usually brushed it off or gruffly mumbled something akin to 'Don't mention it,' or even diverted the words of gratitude to someone else so they could respond instead. Since he was alone in this and 'You're welcome' wasn't a phrase he was accustomed to using he instead said, "Yeah, well, he's a dick. Must be a requirement to lead a clan these days. It pisses me off."

He thought for a moment, hoping Yuji wouldn't revisit the topic of fathers. "I'm a year older than you, based on your file. I got to where I am by...training, I guess. And by having friends and a clan that forced me tap into my 'potential,' or 'genius' or whatever it is they want to call it." The Akari's face soured at his own explanation and that word 'genius' in particular, clearly agitated by the thought. After a bit of silence he added, "Anyway. I don't know how much I can help with unlocking your sharingan, which is what I assume we're supposed to be working on. But katon, taijutsu, iijutsu. I can help with all of that."

The boy took a few steps backwards, eyeing Yuji as he seemed to briefly become lost in his thoughts. Kotaru cut through those thoughts by saying, "I'm not entirely convinced that you're worth my time though. I'm not in the village often enough to put a lot of time into this." The boy held up five fingers and locked eyes with the genin. "I'm leaving for five days. Supposed to be two, but I think I'll take my time. While I'm gone you need to train. Train your taijutsu, or katon. Or your strength and speed. It's up to you, really. Just show me that I didn't make a mistake in agreeing to this. Any questions?"

Yuji took note of the slight embarrassment that his thanks had brought Kotaru, he was in a similar boat not used to thanking people outside his clan. The Uchiha smiled a little when the bannin insulted his father, it was not often that Yuji heard such remarks about the clan head within the Uchiha compound. Yuji had once attempted such a thing and the consequences were not worth the effort, insulting his father was wasted breath all it did was provoke him to further cruelty. Yuji had been subject to a severe beating that day, Kazuo had never beat his children directly before then instead pitting them against each other in unfair match ups. His father had never come across the need to do it again either, Yuji tiptoed around his father nowadays and it had made him much more timid in his approach to his family.

Hearing that Kotaru had read his file raised an eyebrow, he wondered just what was contained inside his file. Yuji had not been on any missions as of yet, his siblings had filled him with tales of their exploits already. Yuji suppressed the childish notion of grand adventures, most genin were stuck with the worst duties as a means of teaching them responsibility to the village and experience out in the field in a more controlled environment. Then came the rude side of the bannin once again, this time instead of being put off Yuji remained expressionless. He had to wonder exactly what had made Kotaru this way, the Akari had mentioned something about his clan leader being on equal levels with his father in attitude.

There were two questions in Yuji's mind, he decided to go with the second that popped into his head. "I have a couple but one can wait till after you decide if I am worth your time. Any advice in approaches to training you found worked?" Yuji had often been subject to training with his siblings, however seeing as how much their abilities outshone his own it was difficult for Yuji to benefit from the family training sessions. He had stolen away what little time to himself he could gain to learn most of what he already had learnt, his father did not approve of Yuji learning iijutsu as he did not see how it benefited the clan.

"A few," Kotaru began, staring at the Uchiha boy intently. "Whatever you've been doing, stop doing it because it isn't working." For a long moment the bannin paused to think about how he had come to be in the position he had. The long days that bled into longer nights filled with training and sweating and bleeding. Most of the time he had been alone, and though he loathed to admit it there was no way he could have made any progress without the help of others - whether they did so gladly or not.

After the thoughtful pause he added, slowly with his voice much softer, "Solo training is all well and good, but the best way to learn what you need to fix is fighting against someone - someone that won't embarrass you or piss you off or otherwise turn your mood to shit. It's distracting and it'll affect your aim, chakra molding - everything. Hire someone to help you. That might be beneficial for you, but only after you figure out exactly what and how you want to go about this. I'll send someone along at some point."

How strange. Kotaru had quickly risen through the ranks of the military with his teammates, and since they were older and more experienced he had often found himself on the receiving end of advice and orders. Even as a jounin he had led very few missions and all he had done was bark orders and do his part until the job was done. He had never officially taken on students, and the few times he had tutored it had been like pulling teeth; he hardly had the patience for teaching and he had given help harshly and reluctantly.

But this instance felt slightly different. The Uchiha didn't react strongly one way or another to the situation- neither protesting or childishly cheering that a bannin would be his teacher. The foreign situation somehow felt familiar, though Kotaru didn't yet understand why. "One more thing," the Akari stated as another piece unconsciously fell into place, "spend as little time as you can here. This is just a place for you to eat and sleep, if that. You're not growing here and I don't know how you stand it."

"Get to know the village. Explore the village underground - it's fucking huge - go to the markets and some of the hundreds of training grounds we have. You can't prove them wrong if you're here all day sulking."
Kotaru broke eye contact as birds flew noisily overhead. For a second time he watched a flock until it was out of sight. "In five days come to the Jousai headquarters. And make sure it's after one o'clock." Without waiting for a response, the boy turned and flickered away, leaving only a small puff of dust in his wake.

Fragile Peace

Yuji watched the Bannin vanish into thin air, not quite sure how to bid him farewell instead opting for silence. Standing alone in the family Dojo Yuji was left to contemplate what had transpired today, it had all happened so quickly. Yuji spun suddenly and threw his shurikens once again at the target, landing each one of them dead center a resounding thud as every shuriken landed on their mark. It seemed like there was going to be some changes in his life, for better or worse Yuji was unsure yet. Kotaru didn't seem all that bad perhaps a bit rude but he had decided to train Yuji so surely there was something redeeming about him, only time would tell he shrugged.

A tap on the shoulder made Yuji spin around, face to face with him was Eiji who beamed a smile at his younger brother. Running his hand through Yuji's hair it seemed Eiji only held his brother in high esteem, not because of any inherent strength or ability from Yuji it seemed that did not matter to Eiji. "I thought you were due to go out on a mission?" Yuji asked glad to see his brother all the same. Eiji nodded and began signing to Yuji whose facial expression dropped a bit. "A five month long border patrol? That is so long... Will you at least be able to stay in contact?" Eiji shrugged, it was clear even he was unsure as to what his mission would allow him. Eiji signed once more letting Yuji know that he had come to say goodbye for now, the elder brother included that he looked forward to seeing how much Yuji will have grown in his absence. The pair parted in a bittersweet fashion, Yuji watched as another person walked from the compound.

As Kotaru was leaving the compound, a pair of eyes watched him as he went through the main gate. Shiori watched the Bannin intently, her cheeks flushed as she struggled to comprehend the feelings she felt at this moment. She had always been partial towards strong mysterious types, Kotaru checked those boxes in her mind. The way he had stood up to father, even she heard the outburst of the bannin it was something that should have made her mad. How dare he speak to the leader of the Uchiha that way, how dare he speak to her father in that manner and yet she could not bring herself to hate him. Her chest felt tight as she watched him leave the compound, unsure of when she would see him again. She thought she saw him begin to glance in her direction and hid further behind the tree she had situated herself behind, she turned away from the main gate breathing heavy as the embarrassment of almost being spotted hit her. She peered out ever so slightly, the bannin had long since moved on leaving the compound behind.
