The streets were covered with smog this evening in the western district of Iwagakure, the vast number of forges here hard at work. The orange glow from various furnaces was plenty of light to illuminate the streets outside, the constant rhythm of hammer strikes could be heard all over this side of Iwagakure. Deep underground many of these forges extended, it was in one of these underground streets that Yuji was performing his first real mission for Iwa.

Only hours before he had been summoned to the Tsuchikage's office, it was here he had been greeted by a drab looking clerk. A scroll with his mission had been handed to him, included within were details on the assignment along with a location to meet up with a partner. Yuji was less than keen on that last part, he had yet to find any Iwagakure Shinobi outside of his clan he could tolerate. His father had been encouraging Yuji and his siblings to get more involved with the village, especially with it's inhabitants.

So here he was patrolling the streets with his partner, Yuji had yet to speak a word to the absolute unit of a boy patrolling alongside him. Apparently he was told they were a similar age but Yuji had to ask what they had been feeding this one, in comparison Yuji was a far more slender frame. His deepest brunette hair flowing behind him as he moved gracefully through the street, they had been sent here to investigate reports of burglaries in the area. Equipment from the forges had been taken along with various other materials, the pair were to locate the culprits and apprehend them by any means necessary.

Yuji had come to learn one thing about Iwagakure, they had very little tolerance for lawbreakers many things afforded the death sentence, hard labour or even exile. Considering that some of the hard labour involved work with the catacombs that had recently been uncovered, Yuji imagined that exile would be the kinder of the three not that it was an option for shinobi. His clan were a prime example of being held prisoners by the village, he didn't hold a grudge against the village it was just a fact. He was unsure how to feel about his clan's state as a whole, there were those who disapproved of being shackled to a village and longed for the nomadic life once again. There were many who were also committed to making a future here, his sister was one of those and had become quite popular amongst many her own age already.

Yuji steeled himself and decided that he couldn't just stay in silence for the entire mission, he tilted his head to his companion. "So, where do you think we should begin? uhhh..." Softly spoken came the voice from his lips, a gentle and calm sound searching for a name from the genin with him. Yuji already had an idea or two as to where they could start, his upbringing taught him to value other's opinions however even if you don't agree with them as they may offer insight you did not have prior.

"Iwamaru," the young man replied. "Tate Iwamaru. Your name? And as for where to start..."

The summons Iwamaru had received for this patrol were... odd. He was, of course, familar with being assigned missions in the village, but they had always been for a directed task. This type of mission was new to him. He had some ideas, but he had to defer to experience. "The only real suggestion I have to offer is to not be too close together. Mayhaps I could serve as bait and the obvious presence, and you could shadow me and serve as backup for any unexpected assaults or flanks anyone might try to pull. I'll admit: this is my first patrol of this kind."

It seems that their visibility was compromised on the street where they were, separating would allow them both to cover more space in their sweep and also give Iwamaru a set of eyes to watch his six. Heck, they could even potentially turn the tides of a fight if anyone decided to get a bit too big for their britches. "Considering you are the more experienced of the two of us, where would you start?"

Iwamaru continued to scan their surroundings. There were a literal plethora of blind spots. The young man was starting to understand why he was chosen for this mission. His physical might would be an important asset if any ruffians decided to start prowling the streets.

"Uchiha, Yuji." It was perhaps not necessary to state his surname due to the obvious insignia adorning the top he was wearing, his voice continued the same soft tone as he continued to address Iwamaru. "The break-ins had been reported from the forges themselves, perhaps that would be as good a place as any. If there is still anyone working at this hour we can perhaps garner some more information. I would feel more comfortable if you addressed any of the village's inhabitants Iwamaru-san." Yuji began directing their slow methodical patrol in the direction of the forges as he spoke, he distanced himself from his fellow genin the suggestion to not appear to be too close was a sound one indeed.

To further this ruse Yuji pulled his loose gown up and over himself, in doing so he obscured the Iwa protector tied around his upper bicep. He began to take a more subdued approach to the way he walked, no longer was he a shinobi but a humble citizen of Iwagakure. He remained close enough to Iwamaru to keep their conversation out of any casual listeners, yet he stayed far enough away to seem a stranger it was a delicate balance.

Most of the forges seemed to be dying down for the evening as the work force began to migrate, they had no doubt worked a long day and were due home or to a local tavern. They had the sullen look of those who had been at hard labour for the day, a few of the older hands tended to be more cheerful than the smithy apprentices. Yuji wondered if they would get their own forge built into the compound, it would certainly be convenient if that were the case but the noise would be unbearable.

An elderly gentleman was packing up his tools, he held an air of sternness about him with a dashing of authority thrown in. Yuji gestured subtly at Iwamaru attempting to point him in the direction of the smith, once the message was received Yuji would head in the opposite direction to stand across the street from the forge. He stepped into a more shadowed part of the street trying not to draw any attention to himself so he could observe his partner and potentially spring an ambush on anyone who was up to no good.

"Ten-four," he replied to his partner. So, it looked like this mission would start with reconnaissance. Seemed easy enough.

Iwamaru's belt held the Iwagakure emblem on its centerpiece. It was a reversable clasp, meaning it was simply a matter of flipping said clasp to the blank side if he ever needed to eliminate that issue. The pauldrons and sword would be another issue, but he was the larger of the two by a significant margin. Stealth was not likely to be his role at any point in this mission. Instead, he would serve as the face of their operation, drawing attention to himself while his partner could work in the shadows.

Iwamaru noted many of the gritty, tired workers that were passing him on the street, and he noted the worn faces the majority of them wore. It only took a small stroll through the industrial parts of the village to remind him exactly how fortunate he was. His mom had always reminded Iwamaru to look past class, a skill that his father tended to lack. He hadn't truly come to appreciate what she'd meant until he started receiving missions in this section, and it always caused an involuntary twinge of guilt in his chest. He never did understand the notion of the class system in the village, and while he accepted it as a necessary evil at times, he couldn't help but think there was a better way.

Shaking his head, he refocused himself. The mission was the important thing right now. He had to be alert, present, in the moment. Too much worrying about past and future could be fatal in another situation. He shouldn't let it slide just because this was considered low-risk.

Iwamaru saw Yuji's signal and, without directly acknowledging it, made his way towards the old man. "Excuse me, sir," he called to the old man. As he approached, he dropped his voice to a more quiet timbre. "Good evening, sir. My name is Iwamaru, and I'm here to investigate a rash of break-ins at the forges in this sector. If you'd be willing to give me a few moments of your time, I'd like to ask if you've heard any details about some of those break-ins and maybe offer you a small reward for your cooperation."

It wasn't bribery, per se; rather, it was Iwamaru using his own money to hopefully make the old man more willing to share with him. He imagined that some of the workers in this area might hold some resentment against the shinobi class, considered to be the elite. By Iwamaru showing that he wanted to treat the man as an equal and that he recognized the man's time as important, it might diffuse some of those inherent tensions. It may also make him look like a sucker and bait out any malcontents, which was exactly what he wanted.

The elderly smith raised an eyebrow at the offer of money, he worked hard day in and day out for the wages he earned and was not foolish enough to turn down some quick easy money. He stroked his bushy grey beard, his skin was like old leather hardened by work and tanned with age or maybe heat; perhaps it was both. Yuji continued to keep an eye out on the street around them as the old man and his partner conversed, it was beginning to get quieter here as the last of the smiths left their forges for the night.

"Well lad, I can say we have been very fortunate here not to have been hit by the burglaries. Those who have been victims, is a real shame what has happened. World is getting worse these days, ain't safe even in your own backyard anymore. The old hand packed up the last of his tools and began making his way to the exit, waiting for the young shinobi to join him before closing the door and locking up for the night. I heard that Yamamoto's had their forge hit real recent like, perhaps you will be finding something there?" The elderly man held out his hands expecting his payment, it was clear that he didn't know much else and asking for more would likely garner fables just for the sake of a greater reward.

Yuji could not hear the conversation between them, he imagined by the way the old man was moving to lock up that there was not too much information to be gained. He sighed a little it seemed like the mission was going to be more tedious than first thought, he waited for them to wrap up before going down the street a little ways so as not to arouse suspicion going straight to his partner or vice versa.

"Well, what did he have to say?" Yuji asked once Iwamaru had caught up, he spoke in the same tone as before so as not to be picked up by casual ears. Yuji slowed his pace a little more in case they needed to change direction, he was by no means a fan of these types of missions. He wondered what his siblings were doing, probably far more exciting missions at this point. Eiji being a Jounin no doubt had plenty of adventures on a daily basis, he was modest of course always saying that it wasn't all grand adventures as a Shinobi. Yuji knew it had to be better than what they were doing right now, after all Genin were restricted to the village for their missions. Yuji began allowing Iwamaru direct where they were headed, seeing as he had interacted with the old smith it made sense that he lead for the moment.

Iwamaru worked hard to memorize the old man's facial features and general appearance. Right now, he was innocent, sure, but there was no true way of knowing yet exactly how these thefts were coming to pass and who was behind them. It was entirely possible that the people they were relying on information for were part of the scheme. Nevertheless, the genin listened intently as the old man seemed willing enough to cooperate in return for the payment. Based on his testimony, it didn't seem like the thieves had hit any of the forges in this section of the district. There were no overt signs that the man was lying to him, so while all things were possible, he was going to act on the assertion that the information being provided to him was true. The last piece of information he'd ask for would be the location of the Yamamoto forge before handing over the small payment like promised.

When Yuji tried to approach, Iwamaru held up his left fist in front of his chest, facing Yuji. This was a military hand signal: "stop". Keeping the fist in front of his chest would make it less obvious he was communicating with Yuji if someone was watching from a flank or a higher vantage point. He then pointed his hand forward and nodded in the same direction, indicating that Yuji should continue to shadow him and keep his eyes open. Yuji was their ace in the hole, and revealing that too soon could be detrimental to the mission's success. There was no telling how many eyes might be on them at this moment, and they had to assume they were being watched almost from the get-go.

Iwamaru continued towards the designated location of the Yamamoto forge. It was a fair distance from the first group of forges, in a slightly more run down area of the district, though still serviceable by all standards. The few people still on the streets cast sideways glances of varying tones. Some showed intrigue, others awe, and yet more outright disdain and animosity. Even if there had been surly looks before, none of them had held the level of contempt these workers in this area were showing. It was more likely that this operation was based out of this section of the district or close to here. An area with lacking government surveillance and a general dislike or outright hatred for authority served as an excellent breeding ground for crime and villainy.

Heading towards the Yamamoto forge, it was easy to identify. Barriers had been set up around the sight, and while the rest of the buildings in the area were fairly lit on the inside, the light from this particular forge was dim. Iwamaru wasn't even certain if someone was inside. Walking up to the door, he knocked. So long as Yuji was hidden from sight, Iwamaru would try to act innocent. Naivety and vulnerability were preyed upon by the wicked, and the more clueless he acted, the more likely he would draw their targets from the shadows.

The cordoned off forge was manned by a pair of civilian law enforcement officers, these types tended to deal with a lot of the smaller crimes to save time for the Shinobi who dealt with the much larger cases such as serial killers or the like. Inside was without a doubt a scene of robbery, there wasn't single work station that hadn't been cleared off. The floor was littered with the various objects the intruders had no interest in, the pair of officers watching the scene halted Iwamaru before he could go any further they didn't seem eager to let him past. Yuji had lost patience, tailing around in the shadows had proven to be fruitless it really wasn't his style after all.

"Okay, you can settle down now the professionals will take care of this." He barged past the pair of officers as if he owned the place, he began scanning the scene to see if there was any trace left behind by the perpetrators. Yuji's eyes were drawn to a door to the rear of the small family forge that lay ajar, entry had been forced. The young Uchiha motioned Iwamaru over, gesturing towards the door that was open from the inside. "What do you make of that, exit or entry?" Yuji began to question whether or not there was something more organised here than a simple series of break ins, it was possible that whoever was committing these crimes may have help from someone well known in the forge district.

”Gentleman, please let us pass. We’re from the Tsuchikage’s office, and we’ve been directed to take command of this investigation,” he stated, showing the men a copy of the orders from the administrative offices.

Iwamaru was allowed past the boundaries of the investigation perimeter. It wasn’t like civilian enforcement agents were about to pull rank on a shinobi, but Iwamaru wasn’t one to pull rank except absolutely necessary. Walking up to the crime scene, he noticed the door as Yuji did, but there was more than that. ”It’s clear that this was forced entry from the outside,” he answered. ”If you look at the way the lock is caved in, someone clearly kicked this door in. Pretty typical of a normal break-in, so we can’t assume that we’re dealing with a connected case.”

Stepping through the entryway, Iwamaru checked the forensics work the civilian agents had already done. It seemed that most of the important things they’d tended to. Footmarks were corded off and numbered, potential weapons with prints were bagged and identified... all in all...

Iwamaru shook his head. No. Something wasn’t right. There was very little here to steal. Sure, there were some tools, like hammers, chisels, files, spare metal. But those components were self-made. Nothing really valuable was targeted so far. Iwamaru looked for the foreman’s office, and he spotted it up above, isolated from the rest of the forge by its own staircase. Iwamaru checked the door.

The lock was in pristine condition.

”Yuji,” he called simply before pointing at the door. ”No forced entry. Someone either had a key or was let in.”

Stepping into the office, Iwamaru noticed that unlike the rest of the forge, the foreman’s office was cleaned out. Not a sheet of paper remained. And as Iwamaru scanned the floor, he noticed an unusual separation between some of the floorboards. Leaning down, the genin punched the ground soundly, and a secret door sprung open. Inside was an empty safe...

And the door had been melted off.

Yuji heard his name being called from the office above, making his way upstairs the shinobi took care not to disturb anything as he went to join his comrade. Inside the office was just as messy as the rest of the forge, that was not what had drawn the attention of his companion however. Nestled inside a previously hidden compartment in the floor was a rather robust looking safe, not the kind of security system that just anyone could break through either. Judging by the rough method of opening it they were likely dealing with someone who at least knew the heat tolerance of the safe so as not to destroy the contents from within.

Taking another glance at the inside of the safe something caught Yuji's eye, within the bottom of the ebony safe a small square card of a similar colour had blended in with the rest of the safe. Yuji reached down and gently lifted the card turning it over, on the other side a large letter P curled in a fancy manner in white on the black background. He offered it over to his companion, a questioning look upon his face as he did so. "Some kind of calling card?" Standing back up as he asked the question Yuji brushed the dust from his legs, scanning the room once more satisfied his partner had given it a good go over the Uchiha moved back downstairs.

"They sure made a mess of this place considering they only wanted a specific thing, if anything it just screamed diversion." Yuji exhaled as he gave the forge one last look over, he was about to make his way outside when something across the street caught his attention. A young boy was attempting to remain inconspicuous while scoping out the Yamamoto forge, their eyes met and the young kid's eyes widened as the Uchiha began making his way straight for him. Yuji called out for Iwamaru, it was possible this kid knew the streets better than them an extra set of eyes would be helpful if the kid attempted to run. "Iwamaru it seems like we have another lead to chase, literally.

Sure enough the young kid bolted, his legs carrying him as fast as they could he darted off down a side alley. Yuji darted out the forge after the youngster, shifting chakra to the bottom of his feet as he ran into the corner along the side of the the building to keep the momentum going. Up ahead the young boy took another sharp turn into a second alley this one thinner than before, the kid was a slippery one Yuji would give him that but the training the Shinobi had gone through gave them an edge.

Yuji quickly pointed out something that Iwamaru's eyes had not yet had the opportunity to observe: a card left in the safe. Taking the card from Yuji to inspect himself, Iwamaru noticed it held the same feel and weight of a typical playing card. "Smart. The card stock used is very common. They could have literally asked any card producer in the village to make this and we'd never be able to figure out who ordered them," Iwamaru grimaced, knowing that it didn't bring them any closer to the culprit behind these rash of thefts in this district. "My main concern is the safe door. It's possible that someone used mundane methods to open it... but we can't rule out ninjutsu, either. We need to move forward with the possibility in mind that we may be facing a shinobi as part of this operation."

Walking down the stairs, the genin saw his partner freeze as he approached the door to the forge. His body language spoke volumes; he'd clearly found something of interest, and Iwamaru's suspicions were confirmed once Yuji dashed out the door as he called to him for backup. Iwamaru bolted out the door. Instead of following behind Yuji, he'd follow from above, taking to the rooftops with a single leap after making a few seals. It took jumping across the corners of a few buildings, but with his strong legs, Iwamaru was able to catch up from above.

Iwamaru had to commend the young boy. He certainly was quick on his feet, enough to give Yuji and Iwamaru both a challenge. However, Iwamaru's training gave him certain analytical skills that couldn't quite be matched by a life on the streets. Waiting for the young boy to enter a long T-shaped alleyway where Yuji would be pursuing from behind, Iwamaru leaped up into the air before coming down hard in front of the boy with a resounding thud, grabbing by the shirt just as he landed before whipping him around and pinning him to the alley wall behind where he'd just landed. "Young man, don't make this any worse for yourself," Iwamaru stated, his tone cold and formal. "If you have information, spill it. We can see about getting you protection if you cooperate."

The young boy stuck his tongue out in defiance to the shinobi, the slippery street rat slid from under his top dropping low rapidly with the speed of a Shinobi. Leaving the shirt in the grasp of Iwamaru the young boy rolled under the legs of the shinobi in the same fluid movement, beginning his mad dash once again jeering on his pursuers. The corner of Yuji's mouth tilted up a little into a small smirk at the kid's attitude, he patted Iwamaru on the shoulder as he passed the larger Genin.

Yuji continued his chase of this young child as the chase led deeper down into the underground of Iwagakure, various homes carved into the cave walls creating a vast maze of housing amongst the natural stone caverns. Outside many of these homes small paper lanterns lit the way for the Genin and their target, the young lookout arrived at a fork in the tunnel they were chasing him down. Dashing to the left, a sense of realisation as to where this led dawn upon Yuji. Up ahead was one of the many underground parks in Iwagakure, this particular one held a open artificial grassland which would make it difficult for the boy to slip away from them. The youngster must have found himself in unfamiliar territory as the right tunnel led to the park much quicker, Yuji waved Iwamaru pointing down the right tunnel confident the Genin would pick up on what he was trying to suggest.

Yuji continued down the Tunnel, the boy might be faster than Yuji but he had lost his advantage as soon as he entered an area Yuji was familiar with. Being a member of an Uchiha he took great pride in his perceptive abilities even without the Sharingan, in doing so he had spent most his time trying to memorise all of Iwagakure and while the task was monumental in certain small parts of the village he did seem to know them like the back of his hand.

Seeing the brighter light at the tunnel exit ahead of the boy as they were getting closer towards the park area, Yuji hoped that Iwamaru had heeded his suggestion and got there in time. If all had gone according to Yuji's idea as the boy ran out the tunnel he would be completely exposed in the open field, the only other exit besides the one Iwamaru would burst from just moments before they did was some two hundred meters away across the open terrain. Even if he was slightly faster than Yuji and perhaps on par with Iwamaru, simple Jutsu could easily block his path to escape and with such a large open area there would be little risk of actually hitting the child with any techniques.

...Well, Iwamaru deserved that. He’d tried not to hurt the boy by grabbing him by the garment instead of going for the boy’s arm or neck. Momentarily shaking his head, berating himself mentally, Iwamaru also gave chase along with Yuji. The young criminal was spry and fleet of foot, Iwamaru would give him that. But if they played this out over the long game, the kid would tire out. Meanwhile, Iwamaru has enough stamina and endurance to match your average chuunin. There wasn’t a snowball’s chance in hell the target would outlast him.

Iwamaru also recognized this area of the village. His mother had taken him down some of these tunnels on their way to the nature parks that Iwa offered for its younglings to expend their excess energy. It seemed Yuji knew these parts even better than either of them; he saw the hand signals from Yuji and took note, veering down the tunnel to the right while Yuji continued his pursuit of the suspect.

Iwamaru arrived at his entrance a solid sixty seconds before Yuji and the suspect were set to come out of their tunnel. Seeing the third exit, Iwamaru understood the plan. Repeating a sequence of hand seals twice, Iwamaru produced two barriers, one blocking part of the doorway. He would then rip the other barrier from the ground and stack it firmly on top of the first, completely blocking that entrance. He could easily burst through it himself if need be.

Iwamaru then ran towards the other exit, making another set of seals. Crouching and torquing his leg muscles, Iwamaru leaped off of the stone pillar that jutted from the ground as it was coming up. Combined with his natural strength, he cleared the distance between his entrance and the third entrance in a single massive leap. Rolling into the fall and up to his feet, Iwamaru went inside the entrance and created one quite long pit. Ten feet deep and nearly ten meters across, it wouldn’t hurt the kid much if he fell in, but he wasn’t getting out any time soon. He’d then wait on the ceiling of said tunnel, peeking out from around the corner to watch his companion chase the target into their trap. If the kid tried to scramble up the other side of the pit, he’d be right there to kick him back in.

The young boy burst from the tunnel first, eyes adjusting to the brighter open area he scanned his surroundings without even as much as tilting his head. The young criminal cursed his luck, it seemed that there was only one other way out of here. The kid bolted forwards his pursuer only moments on his heels, the grass below crunching under foot as he stormed across the open field within the cavern. It took all his effort to come to a grinding halt at the edge of the pitfall, had he spotted it only a few moments later he would have fallen in it seemed luck had not entirely abandoned him yet. He glanced around to see where the other shinobi was, surely if there was a trap waiting then the one who laid it couldn't be far.

Yuji had cleared the distance between them with some practised athleticism, he held a cold look in his eye he took no pleasure in chasing down a kid but would do whatever it took to bring him to a halt. The youngster came to a stop just short of the other tunnel in this underground field, if Yuji had the time he would of marvelled at the ingenuity of Iwagakure building a grassland environment underground was not a small feat. The vegetation came up to Yuji's knees if making it perfect for someone to be hiding within prone, fortunately their target had not thought of that although Iwamaru would likely have spotted the kid if that had happened.

The small criminal spun about on his heel to face the approaching Uchiha who had slowed his own pace down, Yuji approached cautiously as the child drew a knife from behind. The blade was nothing more than a makeshift weapon, a simple shiv but with an edge as deadly as any combat knife. Yuji had been right to approach cautiously as the kid began shifting his weight left to right in a methodical manner to throw the Shinobi off, the kid had no formal training but had clearly been in a scrap or two.

Yuji took up a stance and continued his slow cautious approach, raising his hands slightly ready to strike at a moment's notice. "Drop the weapon, don't be foolish you might be able to hold your own in a street brawl but you are facing Shinobi now. This is a different game, it isn't one you will win." He sighed little, this was beginning to frustrate him. What a waste of time, he could be training right now and not having to chase down some kid over stolen property they knew nothing about. "Just come along quietly."

The grip on the blade tightened, Yuji knew that look in the kid's eyes. He shook his head and prepared to shift his weight backwards as the kid took a wide sweep at the Uchiha, the tip of the blade shearing off a small thread from Yuji's garments as the Uchiha tried to keep the dodge as tight as possible. All this was done so that Yuji could raise his leg up in a swift kick to the chest, knocking the kid backwards towards the pit's edge and sending him over.

Iwamaru's patience paid off. Much like a scared rat being chased by a cat, Iwamaru saw the boy come to a screeching halt in front of the makeshift pit he'd made to trap him in. The boy looked around but never thought to look up. Good. Iwamaru being there unseen would give him the element of surprise. He kept observing from above, watching the situation play out.

Iwamaru had been hoping that the child would surrender quietly, but he thought himself a tough man and pulled out an improvised blade instead. Iwamaru shook his head. He knew little about Yuji, but if they were anything alike, he imagined his partner would be mighty irritated right about now. Going on a wild goosechase to pin down a non-compliant accomplice was not their idea of a mission going smoothly. Thankfully, he was barely as old as they were and had exactly none of the training or skills they did as shinobi.

It was with a quiet grin that he watched the kid swipe at Yuji. Like clockwork, Yuji blocked the blow and kicked the kid over the edge. Releasing the chakra from his feet, Iwamaru dropped down and flipped, landing on the ground on his feet with enough time to raise his hand and let the kid soundly fall on his fist. Falling into Iwamaru's clenched knuckles would be just as pleaant as being completely and utterly winded. With his level of strength, if Iwamaru did any more, he would outright kill their material witness.

Using the shock of the impact, Iwamaru would pluck the shiv from the kid's hand and, with two fingers, snap it in half before tossing the remnants of the pitiful weapon up and out of the pit, away from Yuji. "Ya know, you should've listened to my partner," he said, grabbing the kid by the neck with his other hand and lifting him off the ground as he walked slowly towards the wall. His grip wouldn't be strong enough to choke the kid, but he wasn't getting away, and no amount of scratching or biting would deter him. "He's much more reasonable than I am. He's the kind of guy to try and talk out his problems. Me?"

Iwamaru slammed his fist into the wall behind the kid, and massive cracks formed several feet above the child. That wasn't even Iwamaru's full strength. He could likely have caused a cave in if he so wanted. "I prefer to punch my problems until they break... or die. Whichever comes first. So tell me kid..."

Iwamaru's eyes bored into the boy, glowering even in the darkness of the earth. "Is whomever you're keeping secrets for really worth your life?"

Yuji raised a hand to his forehead sheltering his eyes slightly, he shook his head at the minor brutality his partner had just displayed. Yuji did not enjoy using violence, he saw the necessity in it at times but disliked it none the less. The young thug's prior bravado now drained from him just like the colour from his face, a pale complexion at witnessing shinobi at work even if they were just Genin. The kid recoiled a little at the threat but didn't attempt to make a break from the grasp of Iwamaru that seemed unwise right now, he stuttered towards Iwamaru's question. "A-a-lright alright, I will spill! Kage's beard you are persistent."

The kid looked over at Yuji for a moment hoping to garner some sympathy and loosen the grasp around his neck, Yuji just gave him a deadpan cold stare back. The boy with a defeated sigh continued his sentence prior. "There is an old warehouse on the edge of the forge district, it is built in the shadow of the great iwagakure wall on the surface level. Your crooks sometimes meet there, I tend to be paid as a lookout for them but I guess that ain't happening anymore."

"Alright Iwamaru we got what we wanted let him go, it is not as if he will tell us anymore." Yuji imagined even if they did beat the info out of the kid there would still be no guarantee he wasn't lying, it seemed they just had to go with what he had given them. The question that laid before the Genin now was whether they report this in or investigated it themselves, especially since there was a potential chance of a shinobi at work. At the very least if there was not a Shinobi there was someone who had some kind of knowledge on generating heat to melt through that safe, either by technology or natural means. "We should check this Warehouse out at the very least and make a plan from there."

Yuji wished to climb the ranks of Iwagakure as swiftly as possible so he could leave these Genin restrictions behind, he wanted to start taking on more challenging missions after all so he could further test his limits. He hoped to reveal more of the mysteries of Ninjutsu and what better way to do that than in a difficult situation. Yuji knew that to gain this kind of recognition however would require great deeds, this is why he was eager to wrap up this mission themselves.

Iwamaru kept the same vicious glare boring into the kid's eyes as he held him aloft. And it was super important that he kept it, too, at least until the kid spilled his beans. On the surface, he looked calm, cold, unfeelling, like stone. He had to keep up that appearance, because honestly... on the inside...

About halfway into the kid's confession, he knew he'd burst into laughter if he didn't force himself to look serious.

There was a potential that there was a shinobi that was involved with this, but Iwamaru tried not to stress about it too much. Even if his ninjutsu arsenal was relatively small, he was as fast as your average chuunin, and he was stronger than most chuunin. He was confident with that, along with Yuji's skill set, they'd be able to tackle any lone wolf shinobi deciding to disgrace their own standing and loyalty to the village by partaking in criminal activities... and petty ones at that. He was grateful that he had rugged, rough facial features naturally; otherwise it would have been difficult to hide his amusement at how quickly this kid's bravado left him, especially after seeing him punch the wall.

When Yuji spoke up, Iwamaru paused, narrowing his eyes at the kid... but he couldn't take it anymore. Sighing deeply, he chuckled, a disarmingly silly grin on his face, which would no doubt terrify the child more. "Man, you're face was priceless when I punched the wall! You sure you didn't wet yourself?" He didn't wait for an answer. Winding his arm down and swinging it up, Iwamaru tossed the kid up by the neck as easily as a child would a stuffed animal before jumping up himself. "Alright, scram, before I actually arrest you and ruin your life," he ordered nonchalantly, his arms crossed.

Watching the kid scramble for his sorry hide first, he turned to Yuji after a few seconds. "To answer your question, yes. We should go check out that warehouse. Especially since there's a chance that a shinobi is involved with the crime spree, every second we waste is a chance for them to slip away."

"Agreed but as Genin there is only so much we can achieve. If there is a shinobi involved it is likely that it could be taken out of our jurisdiction." Yuji replied to his comrade once the kid had finished scurrying away. Unfortunately, it was not all that unlikely a shinobi was involved and protocol dictated they report it in. The most they could do right now is scout out this hideout and confirm any possibility of shinobi involvement.

How likely was it though in Iwagakure? All Shinobi belonged to the strict military regime here nor was the village exactly lax on it's defence against things exactly like this. Yuji could not fathom how they had slipped through the cracks if such a Shinobi existed at all. It was just as likely this was someone who knew their way around the forges, a person with an aptness for metallurgy. It was the only possible alternative and one Yuji certainly hoped would be the truth. The last thing the village needed was the turmoil brought about by a corrupt or even traitorous Shinobi.

The Uchiha began making his way towards the exit he had chased the kid out earlier. "You coming?" Turning to his partner to see if he was going to follow. Then proceeding to head off in the direction the youngster had given them, hopefully this would be straightforward from here on out. Yuji would not really attempt to strike up much conversation on their way there. The Uchiha was not really sociable outside of his clan so small talk was not in his repertoire. That being said he didn't expect his comrade to stay in silence and as such mentally prepared himself for a civil discussion.

Iwamaru grimaced at the notion of their case being taken out of their jurisdiction. He was never one who liked to hand off work he was capable of doing unless it was absolutely necessary. Sure, he wasn’t about to fight a jounin any time soon, but he figured between himself and Yuji, they could take down a chuunin, with some effort. Why should they be forced to hand it off when they were both capable shinobi?

Iwamaru shook his head as he asked Yuji to wait, undoing the pit he’d created before quickly jogging over to the third entrance he’d sealed off and removing the two stone barriers he’d erected earlier to cut off that particular avenue of escape. This was a public park, after all, and the last thing he wanted to do was ruin some young child’s outing because of shinobi business. Iwamaru has that happen to him once as a kid. That day sucked royally.

His work finished, he returned to his partner’s side. As they walked side by side, Iwamaru finally allowed himself to ask the obvious question he’d been refraining from presenting. ”We’re gonna need to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses in order to work effectively as a unit. So if you don’t mind me asking, I know very little of your capabilities and your clan’s. Would you be willing to elaborate on those?”

Luckily for Yuji, Iwamaru was actually just as bad as Yuji at socializing. Hopefully, they could stumble their way through the conversation together.
