Jousai Headquarters Akari, Tatsuo flipped through a manila folder before signing off on another form as the sun hung high in the afternoon sky. He hated the monotony of paperwork; it was the bane of any ninja who still wanted to be out in the field performing missions for their village. It was dull and tedious which usually led to him falling asleep mid way through it atop his desk and leaving drool all over the piece of furniture. This specific batch, however, served a greater importance than most bits of paperwork did to the Bannin. This batch was multiple work orders and supply shipments for a new endeavor made in the interest of Iwagakure no Sato and its allies.

Three manila folders were spread out on his desk, each showing the different face of each of the shinobi he would be entrusting this mission to. Karagata, Shinjiro was one of the two shinobi recently sent over by Kirigakure no Sato, the other being one Muramasa, Maido. According to Kotaru, she wsa one of the emissaries sent to help strengthen the ties between the villages some months past. The first shinobi was simply known as Hyoryu. The files for Maido and Shinjiro provided accurate head shots along with general details of their abilities but Hyoryu's only included a blackened head shot with a large white question mark over it and small notes about his abilities personally gathered by Tatsuo during their mission together. Speaking of, the winnings from that mission were still unused. A couple dozen Sunagakure no Sato headbands rested in his desk, awaiting the day to be used.

Tatsuo glanced at them again, his mind putting together the pieces of the operation to secure Iron Country's assistance in the future. Hyoryu had plenty enough ways to get into the country and the other two could easily tag along unfettered. Once they reached the designated point, their mission would be simple: assassinate the Iron Daimyo and take his place. Maido's ability to take control of bodies was invaluable and could be easily used for their plan. Once she was in place, the two sides could work together to put a deal in place that'd tie Iron Country to Rock Country and Iwagakure no Sato for generations to come. After, she could abandon the body and make it seem the man died of natural causes before a new ruler came onto the scene.

Tatsuo had sent word to Shinjiro by messenger hawk earlier in the morning in an attempt to debrief the youth about the mission. His plan was to provide Shinjiro the leadership role so that the boy could prove himself even more capable to his superiors back in Kirigakure no Sato. It'd be a good way to make a name for himself in Kiri and even further if things went south and they had to fight their way out. Upon arrival, Shinjiro would be greeted by the sentry at the door, Michi, before being directed to Tatsuo's office on the second floor.

The newly-promoted Jounin of Kirigakure had only been in Iwagakure for a few days. He had been excited to train with shinobi from the hidden stone village, they were notorious for their brute strength and tenacity, opposed to Kirigakure’s bloodthirsty and more devious reputation. Unfortunately, thus far the journey had been far more exhilarating than the happenings within the village. Maido was quickly becoming one of the young Jinchuriki’s favourite people, wherever she went chaos and bloodshed seemed to follow. However, their killing spree and rapid travel had exhausted the blood witch and so Shinji had spent the last couple days guarding over her until he was certain that she had fully recovered her strength. Her companions had arrived in that time and the group of them had finally been able to tour the village to some extent, though under close watch. It was cold here and rather barren, the militaristic nature felt structured and disciplined and he could appreciate that though as far as sightseeing or activities thus far the village felt rather lackluster.

Fortunately, the following morning after mapping out the layout of the surface level of the village the young member of the Seven Swordsmen received a promising message. A meeting at the Jousai headquarters, a request from none other than Akari Tatsuo. That man was of course one of the shinobi Shinjiro most wished to see in action. Back at the Star country festival Tatsuo had easily overcome his strength, even after transforming. Such raw power was unheard of, in fact it was the first time in years that he had been physically overcome with the exception only of the former Jinchuuriki, Katsu. It was evident the man was a Bannin and so it was no surprise to discover that he led Iwagakure’s organization in charge with the village’s defenses.

Escorted out of the village the teenager was led to the large castle built into the mountainside. It was an impressive looking structure, even bigger than his own mansion back home and certainly sturdier looking. The young assassin of the famous Karagata family had been rather restless lately, Iwagakure teemed with adrenaline and testosterone, the only thing of immediate interest being the countless training grounds and the constant smell and sounds of fighting. And yet he had held back the urge to partake, dedicated in his priorities of protecting Maido and understanding the layout of this new place he found himself in. Still, he hoped that Tatsuo would have some test prepared for him; a mission to assist with, training among some of the elite of the village, anything to help keep him sharp and honed. Shinjiro may have only been recently promoted to Jounin but he had been training at a high level his entire life, able to overcome most elite Jounin and even hold his own against some Bannin.

The air felt different in Rock Country, dry and crisp, the wind fierce and chilling. Though Shinjiro seemed to fit in well enough, his attire consisted of a mixture of browns and greys lined with green trim. Combat boots, full length pants, a long sturdy coat that went down to his knees and several layers of shirt and sweater beneath topped with a flowing brown scarf that billowed behind him like a tattered cape. Of course, he also kept his hood up and cloth mask covering the lower half of his face. His Kirigakure symbol set him apart, tied to his left shoulder while on his right the symbol of the Kraken was sewed into his jacket shoulder and on his chest the symbol of the seven Swordsmen of the Mist. The young man was nothing if not prideful. His pair of Katana in their matte black sheaths were worn across his back, fastened where they crossed each other by a mechanism that allowed them each to pivot independently but remain fixed in place unless a certain amount of force was exerted. Each weapon was custom made at great cost, forged from rare materials and imbued with unique properties, swords worthy of the Seven Swordsmen. At his left hip was another weapon, simple but legendary in its own right, a single arrow in its own thin black sheath, the tip only barely protruding. On each thigh he wore a kunai/shuriken holster and at his lower back the standard utility pouch for additional storage. As typical of a shinobi the young man never left anywhere without all of his equipment.

Upon reaching the large door of the castle the Jounin of Kirigakure was allowed some reprieve from the frigid mountain winds. He was given direction to Tatsuo’s office and without a word of his own Shinji disappeared in a flash of movement leaving behind his escort and the man that had allowed him entrance. Getting to the second floor and finding his way to the room described had been simple enough, a mere handful of seconds. The sudden acceleration knocked back his hood and cleared off any lingering snow and moisture that had accumulated on his clothes on the long walk to the headquarters. The cold didn’t bother him that much, his body was mostly numb to pain and other such negative sensations, but it did still feel good to exert a burst of speed. His muscles yearned to be put to use, lean but rippling with power the extensive working out within the confines of the room he had been assigned could only do so much to contain his primal urge to dominate and spill blood. The young man would knock on the door or simply stand at the opening for a moment if it were open, “Karagata Shinjiro, Jounin of Kirigakure, 4th sword of the Seven Swordsmen and Jinchuuriki of the Body Genma, reporting as requested.” He stated coldly, though formal and dutiful his voice was unmistakably youthful, only sixteen years old and standing at 5’9, 155lbs. To some, even with the array of weapons he might seem rather average. Soft facial features, light brown hair and vibrant green eyes but to anyone with any sense of self preservation or honed instincts they would see him for what he was; a calloused professional killer, a vicious beast in human form, a weapon that would not hesitate to kill, as swiftly or as brutally as required.

The dark mahogany door to Tatsuo's office was wide open presenting Shinjiro easy access to entering it. He sat quietly as the teen entered and announced himself to the Bannin including both his ranks and titles. The maroon haired Bannin offered the boy a restrained smile before motioning to the two chairs in front of his desk with his right arm, urging him to take a seat if he so pleased. The office space itself was quite decorated: detailed maps of the entire Elemental Continent, Rock Country, Iwagakure, and the Catacombs below the village hung across its walls, an armor stand dressed with his impressive set of armor and sword stood in the corner behind him, and bookshelves filed with the history, lore, and traditions of both the village and the country who housed it lined the walls. Bear skin rugs decorated the floor, useful in keeping the room insulated during the cold seasons, and the chairs made of mahogany with leather cushioning to keep one comfortable. Once Shinjiro moved onto the room and either took a seat or continued to stand, Tatsuo stood and made his way to the Elemental Continent map with purpose in his step.

"Tell me, Shinjiro, what do you know of the Civil War that ravaged Lightning Country a couple of years ago?" Tatsuo asked, his gaze locked onto the Lightning Country landmass on the map. He rose his left index finger to the country and tapped on it several times before turning to the Jounin. "Over the last few years we have compiled reports about decreased activity from Kumo while Konoha helped to 'free' Whirlpool. Due to Kumo's neutrality, we had left the period of low activity from them alone. However, recent reports have included sightings of shinobi crossing through the minor countries into the Land of Fire and Lightning and vice versa. This prompted us to look into their decrease in activity. According to the information we were able to gather from the citizens of Lightning country, we were able to find out that their village had been attacked and the country was embroiled in a civil war between various noble factions. As of now, the Raikage and Kumogakure no Sato rule the entire country. Our spies in the country have also heard rumors of a railroad being built between the two nations.

"My purpose for calling you here today is simple: I'd like you and two others to assassinate a Daimyo."
Tatsuo turned to face Shinjiro, a smile that was nearly a face-splitting grin decorating his face. "Specifically, the Iron Country Daimyo. The current plan, should you accept, is to have you, Maido, and another...shinobi working together to infiltrate the country's capital and remove of the man. Maido will then possess the man's body and pose as him to sign favorable treaties with Rock and Water Countries before...'expiring' of natural causes some months afterwards." Tatsuo posed the plan to the young man before striding back to his desk and leaning against it with crossed arms.

Shinjiro entered the room when gestured, his eyes scanned the new surroundings quickly, taking note of the extensive underground portion of the village and the even larger catacombs beneath as depicted on the map. How fascinating, it seemed there were many secrets and layers to the village, more than he could ever hope to explore in a week let alone a day. ‘What really lies beneath?’ he wondered. He didn’t have enough time to memorize so many details at just a glance but certainly he knew there would be many dangers beneath, likely there were countless traps and contingencies in the event the citizens of Iwagaure needed to shelter underground and fight off an attack. He had already been impressed by the remote location of the village and the expansive walls, now he was convinced that Iwagakure had the strongest and most thorough defences of any of the great nations.

So too had the armor and sword caught his eye, he recognized high quality when he saw it. That was equipment worthy of a Kage and he doubted even his swords and strength would be enough to pierce it. That confirmed that Tatsuo was surely a close quarters fighter primarily, relying on remarkable strength and likely speed as well combined with nearly impenetrable defenses. Unlike Katsu however, this man had intelligence and composure to aid him, he would not have any weaknesses easy to exploit, therefore he likely possessed skill in Ninjutsu and Genjutsu to fall back on and act as additional tactics in case anyone were able to actually face him head on. The young Jinchuurki was already convinced that he would not be able to defeat this man, not without a few years of further training and more information, seeing him in action and discovering what areas he could exploit. Poisons perhaps would be his one advantage, that and the versatility of his transformations should he continue to hone them and find the best way to capitalize them.

The mere presence of Tatsuo was one every bit as imposing as the Mizukage, two titans that towered over him. One the pinnacle of Taijutsu and the other a master of elemental ninjutsu. As someone who favoured assassination rather than prolonged combat neither were someone he would want to fight seriously. Nonetheless the competitive drive, the insatiable desire to be the strongest nagged at him from deep within. There was a part of him that reveled in direct combat, a part that he reserved for opponent’s he was confident he could overwhelm. It seemed the stronger he became the more he realized how truly awe inspiring those who sat at the top really were. The assassin of the mist would stand about 2 meters away from the desk, left hand clasping his wrist kept near his waist. Sitting was often inconvenient with the swords across his back and moreover it felt a far more vulnerable and relaxed position for his liking.

Tatsuo stood and walked over to the map while asking a question. Admittedly, Shinji’s knowledge of the details were slim. “I only know that it resulted in a new Kage, Nakajima Hayate who had been the one to lead the revolution and ultimately claim more power for himself” he stated. He had heard that Lightning country operated much the way Water Country did now, with the Kage positioned as the most powerful in the country, any politicians or royalty essentially figureheads that deferred to the shinobi in most cases. However, the exact details of how the country operated were unknown to him. He had never stepped foot in Lightning Country before and the Karagata fleet had always made sure to keep away from Kumogakure vessels, resulting in limited information, most of it coming second hand through trading vessels of neighboring nations such as Forest Country or the developing Whirlpool Country.

The young man listened carefully, curious to discover what level of information gathering skills the stone village possessed but also knowing that any information discerned would relate to an assigned objective. For the most part the information confirmed his own observations and intelligence gathering, though he hadn’t heard that Kumogakure had been attacked, implying a force at work other than the revolutionaries. ‘Who could have a hand in that?’ he wondered. Certainly not Kirigakure or Iwagakure if he was only hearing this now, and it would seem to contrast Konoha’s intentions. Sunagakure perhaps? It would have to be a secret operation or more likely a group of rogue shinobi or spirits. Certainly, he wished to dig deeper into what potential enemies Kumogakure might have. At the mention of the railroad, the young assassin perked up. “I can verify that. I’ve personally scouted Whirlpool country barely more than 2 weeks ago. I helped navigate a route for a shipment from Iwagakure, accompanied by a Special Jounin of your village by the name of Vale. I scouted Whirlpool extensively and noted the railroad being build from the North, leading down into Fire Country. Kumo and Konoha shinobi were building it together and had already completed nearly half of the route through Whirlpool, further considering the evident progress through Forest country and presumably all the way up to Lightning.” He reported in. Surely Vale had written in his report the success of the delivery and noted some of his own observations though he had only been led by Shinji through the path of least resistance, keeping away from the construction areas as much as possible whereas Shinji had scouted the railroad from the air on his way through the country before meeting up with the Iwagakure shinobi in the Land of Rivers.

Hopefully that information would be valuable, and he would be forthcoming in drawing out locations of the railroads route as well as where he observed the heaviest concentrations of enemy shinobi. Of course, he had kept his distance though from the air with eyes as sharp as an eagle there was much that he had been able to discern. If necessary, he could lead forces into the country though scouting and assassination were more his specialty than sabotage if that were a potential plan of action. The young Jounin was somewhat relieved therefore when Tatsuo clarified that his purpose was instead an assassination mission, of a Daimyo in fact. Such a valuable target was a great honour and a mission of such prestige that his family would surely be proud. The Jinchuuriki nodded slowly, conviction in his hardened eyes. He wondered who the two others might be, ‘Maido surely and likely that other Akari, Kotaru?’ he recalled assessing who would be the most suitable and easily piecing together that there was surely a reason beyond protection why Maido had accompanied him to the village. Shinjiro’s eyes lit up, Iron Country, a good move. They were known for a strong military, the plan was a good one, made only possible by Maido’s remarkable abilities. Perhaps genjutsu could have had the same effect though such long lasting brain washing type techniques were extremely uncommon and not quite as ideal. “With pleasure. I take it subtly is priority. Incapacitating or avoiding guards, perhaps a distraction or two if necessary. Who’s the third shinobi? That other Akari from Star Country perhaps? Your brother right?” he speculated. He wasn’t sure what Kotaru’s skillsets were but he was sure he too was a Bannin by his presence and given his build and demeanor he seemed the type to favor deceit, torture, and assassination similar to himself though perhaps inclined towards Genjutsu or more supplementary ninjutsu of some sort.

Tatsuo's face continued to smile at the mention of the Akari Special Jounin. His own personal history with the young man known as Vale was brief but impactful due to the two sharing a clan; the boy's father was the warden of the main prison within Iwagakure no Sato proper and the methods he used at home were more than strict in Tatsuo's eyes. It was bringing undue attention to both his family and their clan from people outside of it and rather than shield the man's actions, the Bannin had moved to correct him. No more issues, nothing to clean up. Tatsuo and the man had exchanged both words and fists and he was more than sure it had affected the boy. He just wasn't sure if it was positive or negative.

"I'm glad Vale has grown into a Special Jounin, the last I had seen of the boy he was just a mere genin. I hope his family is well." Tatsuo commented as he shifted several papers on his desk and lifted a mission's report written by the younger Akari. "He was as thorough as he could be in his report so I thank you for filling in any blank spots he was unable to with this information." He let the younger man speculated the plan for several moments before chuckling at the mention of Kotaru.

"No, you see I trust Kotaru but the boy can be...brash. He may seem situated to stealth but his true talent lies in interrogation and torture. He has a nasty sadistic streak rivaled by few. I'll be having another shinobi join you. Ryu is what he prefers to go by. He's much better suited to stealth and infiltration with plenty enough firepower to secure an escape if things go sideways at any point." Tatsuo tossed the mission report from Vale lightly back onto the desk and grabbed another file from it, this one containing what little information his own investigation had collected on the missing ninja known as Hyoryu. He offered it to Shinji for the young man to read through, the information inside detailing the demon-like puppet body Tatsuo had run into and what it was capable of: razor wire fingers, multiple senbon and kunai launches, corded spear tail, flame breath, and a flame cannon. A second portion of the file depicted a written description of a second puppet body, this of a small child and nothing else known of it.

"The information inside may not seem keen for an infiltration mission but the man has more than one puppet he inhabits, I ran into the second one in Fur Country and was only able to tell it was him based on several Sensory jutsu. He'll be more than enough. You'll have a week to prepare for the mission and gather supplies or train anything you may think'll help. From there you'll meet Hyoryu 10 miles out from the border of Rock and Iron to begin this mission. Any questions?"

Shinjiro bowed his head dutifully, he was glad to be of service to allies of the mist village. He had heard Iwa shinobi were fierce warriors with a strong militaristic pride not unlike the shinobi of the mist. It had slipped his mind that Vale had also introduced himself as a member of the Akari clan, it seemed they were quite the powerful family. The young man had proven himself competant throughout the several days they traveled together though Shinji couldn't say that he got to know him on any kind of personal level, that simply wasn't how he operated while on mission.

The assessment of Kotaru didn't come as much of a surprise, he had speculated as much himself from the brief interactions he had with the young man. "I see. Understood" he said simply, taking note of the name. It wasn't particualry uncommon and in fact he knew a Genin back in the mist by the same name. The shinobi in question was surely quite competent, elite Jounin or Bannin level if he was trusted to accompany himself and Maido. For a moment Shinji was quite looking forward to meeting another powerful individual and discovering the nuances of their talents.

That intrigue was quickly shattered however when he was handed the file. Immediately his eyes widened and he scoffed at the sudden recognition. "You've got to be kidding me. He's one of yours?" He blurted out, eyes still scanning the pages and absorbing information rapidly. "Missing nin from Suna, contracted out for hire..." he mumbled. He assessed the information on the abilities, cringing slightly as he recalled those senbon launchers. "Him and I have had a few run ins. Ashamed to say he got the better of me in our first encounter. Saw him in his stealth form too back in Star Country, no scent, silent movements and remarkably deft hands. This should be an interesting reunion. I have to say I'd rather have him on my side than face down that arsenal of his again." He considered, though even as he said that the teenagers mind thought of the day he'd be able to get the better of him. Nonetheless he knew the necessity of seperating personal grudges from missions and was confident that it wouldn't affect his performance. When asked about questions Shinjiro had just one, "Who's the lead on this mission?" He inquired. Certainly Maido was the strongest but she wasn't exactly the most level headed. Hyoryu was well rounded and careful but he was likely the least trustworthy. Still Shinji would follow his lead if deemed necesarry.

The Bannin really didn't think he could smile any larger without bursting out into maniacal laughter or something equally strange at Shinjiro's reaction to Hyoryu's file and the information he had compiled while working with the missing ninja down in Wind Country where they'd decimated an outpost to collect headbands from Sunagakure ninja. It was something he wasn't expecting but was a welcome surprise; the two already knew of each other. It'd be less work to get them acquainted and synergized if they already knew of each other's skill sets. The only outlier then would be Maido would he had little doubt would be fine on her own.

"You'll be the captain for this squad. Maido is strong but...decision making for the wellbeing of the mission does not seem to be her strong suit. Hyoryu, you already know, is something of a walking armory but he's a missing ninja. That should explain itself why he's not the lead. You, while possessing a Genma, are the most well refined weapon of the three. I had no doubt you'll lead them to success, Shinjiro." Tatsuo answered the question before repositioning himself behind his desk where he sat in his chair. He lifted and rested his left leg over his right while reclining back and crossing his hands and fingers together in his lap. "Unless there are any other questions, you're free to be dismissed. I'll have our scouting reports of Iron Country delivered to your residence shortly so you may begin planning."

The young Jinchuuriki had of course noticed the way Tatsuo grinned at the revelation. If he wasn’t the one who had been caught off guard, he would have found it rather amusing as well. The MN had threatened Shinjiro in their last encounter, though in the first it had been Shinji who had attacked first, cutting the man’s head off in exchange for being assailed by over a dozen senbon. He had underestimated the opponent, failing to realize that he was a puppet body, letting his guard down for a split second after believing he had delivered a lethal blow in his lightning-fast surprise attack. Only due to his own remarkable reaction time and control of his movements as well as understanding of the bodies vital points had he managed to avoid any lethal injuries, but only barely. It had been perhaps the closest he had ever come to being killed, even more dire than his altercation with Katsu, the previous Body Genma host. Certainly, the two had history, fighting over a legendary weapon, the same one that Shinji had pursued years ago and ultimately ended up killing a Sunagakure shinobi over, one who had become one of his first and only friends. He wished to honor his friends memory and claim the weapon the two had sought after together, to this day he still yearned for that sword though after having his weapons shattered by Katsu he had managed to acquire his own mythical swords as well as a legendary arrow that he still had only begun to discover how to utilize.

For now, he would not pursue Hyoryu’s prize and with any luck the Sunagakure MN would shelf his own vendetta against Shinji for the sake of their mission. Certainly, the young assassin found comfort in knowing Maido would be accompanying him. There had been a time he had feared the woman, namely do to her open desire to release the Genma from its seal, a process that would likely kill him. Nonetheless the two had fought side by side, slaying hundreds of pirates, many of whom were powerful rogue shinobi, leaving a bloodbath of the likes Shinji had never experienced before. Maido had every opportunity to kill him or take him prisoner during their journey to Iwa and yet they had stood together and in turn Shinji had protected Maido and decided to follow her ambitions should the need be required of him.

The newly promoted Jounin of the Karagata family did well to hide his slight surprise upon being named captain of the mission. He supposed it made sense from a tactical perspective though nonetheless it felt strange to be given authority over two S-ranked shinobi, one of which who had centuries of experience compared to his own meagre 6 years of service as a shinobi. For all he knew the puppet man could have been over a century old as well. The two were essentially immortal, immune to the effects of aging, only able to be brought down by a decisive blow to a core that could be hidden anywhere in their body. Shinjiro’s own body was far from normal, saturated with poisons in a process known by only the shadiest black-market body modification dealers as the Shinigami’s Curse. But despite that he was still decidedly mortal. Shinji bowed deeply at the honor and praise. “Understood. I’ll see it done” he confirmed. He nodded shortly in gratitude after standing straight once more. The reports would be useful in his planning, though of course he would perform additional scouting of his own for a more updated accounting of the situation. With that he would turn sharply and leave the Tatsuo to his work. Finally, Shinjiro had a true purpose here in Iwagakure. He wouldn’t waste any time, intending to head straight to training. Hopefully he could find a few local shinobi that could keep up with him, though it was unlikely anyone other than the handful of Iwagakure’s Bannin could truly push him to his limits.
