Akari Ume had been out training for half the day already. As always, though she had moved back to the clan compound to live, she did not use the clan training compounds as she thought that might invite trouble. She used the ones any in the village could use. On the ground was her burglar's kit with her jacket thrown over it, the nature of her clothing leaving the tattoo on the back of her neck and down her spine completely visible as she trained. Her long blue hair pulled back into a single clumsy braid, and her bow in hand. More than once she lined herself up in front of her three targets for her work. She crouched slightly and kicked hard to flip to her right, her feet barely touching as she loosed an arrow from her bow to slam into the target. One after the other, three in a row, until on her last attempt her arrow missed the bullseye and she landed on one knee, chest heaving as she caught her breath.

One hand in a fingerless glove came up to touch the red crystal necklace she wore and she muttered to it. "I swear I'm getting better, Koyama... but still not good enough." she whispered, looking over at her pile of things and the strange looking creature sitting on them. It appeared to be a rabbit though the ears doubled as wings which she flitted about as Ume looked at her and the Akari girl sighed. "Did you bring lunch back with you, Kantai?" she asked.

Kantai let out a musical chirp and shook her head.

"Of course not..."

New Allies, New Friends

The young foreigner had arrived in Iwa four days ago and in that time he had yet to see combat. He was pent up, restless. Finally, he had been given a mission and allowed a full week to train, encouraged to test the many training facilities or even the underground fight pits that were common, some even taking bets on slave matches or so he had heard. Certainly, he would get his fill, hopefully finding some high-level shinobi to test himself against at some point but if he trained extensively enough to exhaust himself then even lower-tier combatants would have some value. Moreover, it would give him the opportunity to force himself to adapt in all manner of disadvantageous situations.

After making his way back to the village from the Jousai headquarters Shinji had sought out the closest training facility, entering the large building. Within there were many individual fighting rings, a section for longer range target practice, weightlifting areas and other amenities. He had also been informed that there was an underground portion for some of the more violent matches. Naturally, that piqued his interest though he doubted that killing was as common here as it was back home in the land of the bloody mist. For now, he would warm up with the various shinobi on this surface level. Immediately making his way to a steel cage match arena he put down his name for next match while scanning around the building, taking note of a handful of individuals that caught his eye before turning his attention back to the fight before him.

When it was his turn up, Shinji entered the 10x10 meter dome-shaped cage. It seemed weapons were allowed but lethal strikes were prohibited. Acknowledging the rules, the young shinobi sized up his opponent. A muscular man, over 6 feet tall and certainly a shinobi of at least Special Jounin level. If he used his weapons it would be too easy. In fact, he wanted to handicap himself as much as he could. Removing his weapons holsters and even his cloak and pair of shirts the young man would bare his skin, wearing only his pants and boots. Even inside a building the air was crisp and chilly though he figured he would warm up well enough. It was quite unusual for the young assassin to forgo his hood and mask let alone fight shirtless though he felt it necessary to convey that he wasn’t hiding any weapons, to display his complete confidence and the intricate network of hundreds of scars that adorned his muscular, battle-hardened body. His hands too were unusual in that they seemed as though permanently burned, grey-black like charcoal. On his left shoulder was the burned insignia of Kirigakure and on the right the brand of the kraken.

This drew confused glances from many, when he had entered, he appeared a shinobi and though he had hidden his forehead protector perhaps he would have only somewhat stood out as different than most. Now, he seemed to bear markings of a slave, one formerly of Kirigakure, not uncommon in a place such as Iwa that often traded but for one to appear to have their freedom and even bear weapons? That was likely far less common if even allowed. “What’s the matter? Are we going to fight or not?” he challenged lowly, words seeping like venom as his bright green eyes came alive. A few more questioning looks and comments and then the Iwagakure shinobi’s pride overcame uncertainty, rallied on by comrades to give a good showing no matter the opponent and sort out details later. A ninjutsu was performed and the man was encased in protective stone armor, it seemed rather sturdy. Shinji remained unmoved, evaluating the speed of hand seals, the distance between them, the man’s build and stance and as he larger man advanced so too did Shinji gain a grasp of his speed, acceleration and a glimpse into his power. ‘Not bad’ he considered. Clearly he was well oriented to close quarters with supplementary doton ninjutsu, a perfect epitome of what he expected of an Iwagakure shinobi.

But that wouldn’t be enough. Shinji would play around with the man for a few minutes, like a cat with a mouse, narrowly evading strikes, moving just fast enough to keep out of range, motions kept to the utmost efficiency. And then when he became frustrated and predictable, even after shifting tactics a few times that was when the young Karagata would counter. A rapid one two strike with his fingertips, the thigh of the advancing leg and the armpit of the attacking arm. The first strike would hardly be noticed by most and the second would seem to be the one that shattered the armor. A swift knee to the spine, soft enough to only buckle the man backwards as Shinji cupped his neck and the fight would be over. It took the man a moment to realize that, his left arm incapacitated, the right restrained and the nails of Shinji’s left-hand elongating and sharpening like knives as they pricked against the side of his throat. Simple and effective, a classic finishing position that had served him well hundreds if not thousands of times before.

With a heavy sigh Ume shoo'd Kantai off her things before picking up her jacket and pulling it on. Her face mask she pulled back up over the lower half of her face before undoing her sloppy braid and pulling her hood up over her head, being sure to tuck her hair into it as well. Only a stray section of blue showed that seemed determined to be in Ume's eyes. She slung her bag over her shoulder and made a motion to Kantai. "Come on then." she remarked, Kantai quickly flying up to sit on Ume's shoulder.

Ume could hear the nearby fighting, rolling her eyes before venturing off to see what the fuss was about. She made her way down as the fight was wrapping up, her purple eyes taking note of those within. One of them was curious, not just because he had won but her eyes almost immediately went to the brands he bore on either shoulder. 'Kiri? I had heard there were some visiting, but I didn't expect to see them down here.' Her quest for lunch was momentarily forgotten as she glanced around to see if he was alone or if she could see others. She felt Kantai begin to shake slightly from her position on Ume's shoulder and the shinobi reached up to touch the animal gently. "Relax, dear. You're safe with me." she reassured her, knowing full well that if Kantai was this scared of him, she was liable to up and disappear on her.

New Allies, New Friends

It came as a great relief, therapeutic in a way to hold someones life in his hands. His yearning for dominance and constant honing of his combat skills was a daily quota that demanded be filled. It had become such an integral and constant part of his life that he felt anxious and pent up without it. The man at his mercy sighed, "Should have known you were a shinobi, heard a rumour a few from Kiri were here. You move well" he admitted. At this Shinji smirked slightly and let the man up, "Thanks" he said simply, watching as the man excited the cage and recieved a bit of a jerring from some of his buddies who had likely bet on him.

The young Jounin scanned the crowd, a little over 2 dozen people gathered about, most of them shinobi and prepared to get a few matches in, some likely just spectators for whatever reason. He noted a blue haired girl, someone that he had noticed earlier practicing archery before he had come down to the fighting rings. She seemed somewhat familiar but he couldn't quite place it. Those purple eyes however stood out and he was sure he hadn't met any women with eyes like that before. The pet on her shoulder was also quite fascinating, an interesting creature.

Perhaps one more match and he would talk to her. He still felt that nagging sensation of needing to train. "I'll take on everyone that wants to fight, as many as can fit in here" he challenged boldy. The young Jinchurriki was well known for his arrogance back in Kirigakure but unlike some he had the strength and skill to back up his attitude. He had already met two of Iwa's Bannin and neither of them were in the crowd so it was unlikely anyone would be able to truly test him in Taijutsu in a one on one match. If he was lucky and there were multiple higher ranked shinobi in the crowd then at least he might be able to get some value from this training. Though even against weaker opponents it was useful to determine how much force to exert against them without accidently killing anyone especially when preparing for a mission where the intent was to keep casualties reduced to his target and their most elite bodyguards. He had a feeling however that given his companions on the upcoming mission it may just end up in a bloodbath.

As the challengers entered the cage, 10 of them in total Shinji allowed them to surround him, anything to keep himself at a disadvantage. There would only be about a meter or so of space between each of the combatants with little room to effectively maneuver and several of them brandished knives or brass knuckles while then Karagata remained unarmed aside from his blade-like claws. It seemed each were intent on overwhelming him with close quarters taijutsu rather than attempt ninjutsu in a confined space. Probably the best choice considering the high potential of friendly fire.

The combatants exchanged looks and in a surprisingly well coordinated attack they moved, five at once and the rest remaining in a cricle around him prepared to strike in at any opening. Their speeds ranged from 20-35. Shinji could sense every movement, even those approaching from behind and in an instant gauged which one was closing in the fastest. Moving at his full speed of 41 he intercepted the first man in a flash, striking near simultaneously at the sternum and the temple. Enough to cause the man to stagger and allow Shinji to grab and toss the man into 2 others, dashing toward the next closest combatant and leaving behind an afterimage in his wake. While the man was focusing on attacking the afterimage Shinji slipped past him, kicking out his leg from behind and clapping his temples hard enough to disorient and cause him to fall hard on the ground.

These sudden dashes, afterimages and swift takedowns, stunning the mind and destabalizing the center of gravity would continue until only four opponents remained the rest unconscious or struggling in to stand up again, all occurring in less than 20 seconds. At least Shinjiro was now sufficiently warmed up. The last four covered each other well and anticipated Shinjiro's moves much better, rather than focusing on the afterimages they kept defences tight and didn't overextend themslevs out of formation. In his first test Shinji even pulled back his advance, narrowly avoiding a slash.

The turning point occured when the man in the back of the formation got the idea to use Shinji's own weapons against him, drawing one of the swords that was placed in a pile of his other equipment and clothing. The menacing black steel of the finely honed Katana certainly seemed impressive though the moment the man moved into a combative stance with the weapon he cried out in agony and collapsed, writhing in pain.

One man glanced back to see what had happened and in that moment Shinji dashed toward that weak side, his arm transforming into a snake that lashed out and bit the mans calf before yanking him off balance. Charging forward Shinjiro crashed through the now open right side leaping leg first and striking the man in the front position with such force that the he and Shinji went careening across the arena into the steel cage, a few fierce strikes and he was sure he was down for the match. That left only the man who has been guarding the left flank. The shinobi that had been bitten on the leg had only stood for a moment before collapsing as paralysis overtook him.

Ultimately the last man surrendered, seeing how easily the rest had been dispatched. Shinji stared them each down, his breathing as soft and even as he allowed the satisfaction of his victory resonate through him. He hadn't let himself get carried away, it felt good to remain in control, satisfying but not truly enjoyable. As much as he enjoyed a good slaughter he knew that he had to keep on his best behaviour in this foreign land. He had even avoided spilling blood for the most part. The claws retracted, largely having been unused. He would rip into flesh again soon enough. With that he gathered his clothes, putting thr layers back on and equipping his array of weaponry once again. Stepping out of the cage he looked around to see if that blue haired girl was still around.

Sometime during the match, Kantai had disappeared in a puff of smoke, causing Ume to roll her eyes. Her contact with the grasslands spirit had been signed when she was a far calmer person, when she had avoided bloodshed if at all possible and allowed mercy and meekness to govern her life. That girl hardly existed any longer, and so it didn't shock Ume when Kantai grew fearful and disappeared. It was a thing that was happening more and more frequently and the girl had long since begun to wonder if she should end the contract, the naive spirit having no taste for the things Ume now did.

Through the fight, Ume had walked in a circle around the cage until she came to its door, as the match ended she turned her back to the cage and leaned against it quietly. She purposely took up the position at a point when Shinji was least likely to notice it, that he might step out of the cage and not immediately see her to his right and slightly behind him. Her hood was up in place, her mask covering the lower half of her face as she glanced him over. "Not bad for a visitor." she remarked. "Though the lack of space and sheer numbers actually gave you more advantage than disadvantage... and weapons that can only be taken up by their user? That is something I would love to have." she added, keeping an eye on him warily in case the man was jumpy or overly reactive.

With his hood up there were many visual blindspots, seemingly a detriment to a shinobi though anyone who was a skilled assassin knew how to remain vigilent and aware of their surroundings. Certainly though this blue haired girl was adept at stealth, she remained so still that he hadn't even felt her presence though her scent remained nearby. The subtle lavender of her hair and the unique scent of rabbit fur of the summon still lingered. He couldn't immediately place where she was however until she stepped forward.

The young man turned slightly, looking over his shoulder. "Yeah, I guess that's true" he admitted. "Though it wouldn't have mattered much regardless" he decided. Even at a distance, while his long range offensive options were limited he could still evade and close the gap well enough and with his proficiency in stealth he would be just as comfortable picking off spread out targets one by one. He smirked a little at the mention of his sword, "My weapons have many unique qualities. I am a member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist after all" the teenager stated simply.

Finally turning around fully to face the girl he looked her over. "If we were in Kiri I'd swear you're a member of the head hunter division. To be honest I always thought they'd recruit me, family specialty and all but somehow the swordsmen got to me first." He admitted. That didn't mean of course that he didn't frequently take on assassination missions but rather that they were contracted directly through the Karagata family and their contacts rather than through the specialized Kiri organization.

Beneath her mask Ume hid a sly smirk as Shinjiro finally spotted her. She had come a long way in training in the last few months, changing entirely how she approaches the battlefield and a target, and in these moments when she could see it paying off she couldn't help but to smile. "Seven Swordsmen... lofty company. I suppose every member has unique weapons then, anyone here will think twice before trying to take one of your blades now. That rumor will spread like wildfire." she remarked, nodding as she watched him look her over.

"I have no organization affiliation aside from my village." she replied as he spoke of the head hunters, though she certainly appreciated the comment. She knew by rumor of the division of course, and to know she at least looked the part was a comfort for her. That was a bit of her goal after all, to look the part of the assassin. "I have come to prefer a particular style of mission though... certain diplomatic approaches simply don't suit me anymore." she added, shrugging as she took a step forward and glanced him over. She didn't take long, after all she'd taken a good long look when he was in the ring already and wearing less layers. "I am Akari Ume... and you are?"

The esteemed shinobi of Kirigakure gave the girl a measured look at her comment. He couldn’t discern exactly what she meant by it, perhaps referring to the status of the organization itself and his involvement with superiors presumably more prestigious than himself or maybe referring to him personally and his presence here. “Our reputation is well earned, though currently there are only four of us. Standards must be maintained after all, can’t accept just anyone. Each member is responsible for acquiring their own unique weapon, though occasionally swords are passed down or stored for future generations. Personally, of the current roster I’d say my swords are the most useful” he claimed confidently, in fact it wasn’t a stretch to say that he might even be the most deadly of the seven swordsmen despite being the newest member. The young man smirked, his vibrant green eyes practically glowed in certain light. “I imagine that is the first of many rumors that will spread about me” he declared, he tended to have that affect and certainly back home he was one of the most famous shinobi in the village. For years he had avoided that attention though lately, he had come to realize some of the perks his prestige carried.

Shinjiro considered that statement, perhaps Iwa didn’t have many organizations. He only knew of Jousai after all though he had recently discovered that they in fact dealt with more than only the physical defense of the village. “Bit of a loner? Or just not a fan of the Jousai castle? seemed like a nice place to me” he considered. If he were to stay in Iwa for longer than a few weeks he certainly hoped he would be allowed to stay in the headquarters rather than the mediocre room he was currently assigned. He understood of course what she meant by a particular style of mission. “Let’s take a walk, show me around a little” he suggested, waving her forward. It seemed the two had a fair bit in common, at least in their professional interests. “What’s your favorite method of killing, I like using my hands personally, swords and teeth on occasion” he added, it really depended on his mood and how hungry he was at the time. When she introduced herself he looked over to her, giving her an almost boyish grin beneath his loose cloth mask, only the rising of the corner of cheek muscles and the momentary softness of his eyes would give it away, “Karagata Shinjiro” he introduced, reaching out to shake her hand. He wore gloves now but he could still usually learn a lot about someone based on the strength of their grip and the confidence they carried with themselves when in a vulnerable position such as letting someone of his caliber take hold of their hand. Another thought lingered in his mind, ‘Just how many Akari are there?’ he wondered. One thing had been consistent though, each one he met was powerful or at least very promising in their potential and it seemed Ume was no exception.

Ume couldn't help an outright laugh from behind her mask as Shinjiro mentioned the Jousai organization. "Ah Jousai Jousai.... yeah I don't think they'll ever recruit me. One of the leaders is my ex and another is his best friend who I cheated on him with when we were all a couple years younger... yeah...." The laugh was cold and mirthless, not because she felt nothing about her words but because she couldn't allow herself to feel anything else she might show too much emotion in front of the Kiri swordsman. She managed to keep from saying much else as she walked alongside Shinji, shrugging as he asked about her favorite method.

"Recently I've been learning how fun it is to just scare the piss out of them first. The other day I killed a bodyguard by ripping out his throat with my teeth... the way my intended target damn near pissed herself was thrilling." Though she shrugged as she spoke. "Thankfully she didn't actually piss herself though... blood is great, not so much on other fluids." she added, ,smirking as she looked over at Shinjiro. She reached out to return his handshake, the grip of her hand only briefly rough, the tips of her fingers almost gentle.

"So you're more an assassin than a swordsman.... certainly interesting."

Shinjiro was genuinely surprised at this sudden revelation. He knew of the two men she spoke of, Akari Tatsuo and Kotaru. In fact he had just come from a meeting with the former and had seen the latter the day before. He wasn’t sure which one she had dated though but he knew that neither one of them was someone he’d want to upset and that was certainly saying something given his own immense power and reputation. The young jounin scoffed, “You certainly have a thing for dangerous men. Personally, I’d rather avoid dating though given the types of women I find myself around I’m not sure if I’d be given a choice” he joked, thinking of Maido and Chisaki. The former at least seemed enamored with Kotaru but he wasn’t sure he’d be able to turn her down if her affections shifted. For now, he was content to devote himself to her as a loyal guardian and companion. Chisaki on the other hand was someone he shared some sexual tension with; she would definitely try to eat him or turn him into a zombie if he did anything to break her heart. Fortunately, there hadn’t been any indication of the two actually dating each other much less being exclusive.

The young man listened to her story, to most the pair of teenagers would seem completely deranged for their comments though among shinobi of their brutal villages and especially those like them it felt a completely normal conversation. “Impressive. Are all Akari so ruthless? I’ve heard a few of you go as far as eating people. In Kiri it’s not uncommon for higher-ranked shinobi to sharpen their teeth, typically more for intimidation and a last resort in close quarters though” he considered. “Fluids don’t bother me, ripping people apart can get messy though usually I just pull out the heart or cut off heads” he stated nonchalantly. Of course, he did eat people on occasion but only ever in animal forms so technically it wasn’t cannibalism. He considered her handshake, firm, powerful but also delicate, as he had expected. She was well suited to her work. He nodded agreeably at her assertion, “Yeah, you could say that. I was raised as an assassin first. Ever since I could walk, I was taught how to be nimble and surefooted, exposed to violence and conditioned to the profession. Though when it really comes down to it, I excel at swordsmanship and will always rely on my blades when tasked with killing an incredibly powerful opponent.” As he walked, she would surely note that there wasn’t the slightest sound coming from his movements and even his breathing and heart rate was exceptionally subtle. “What’s your story, how did you come to develop your skillset?” he wondered, somewhat more inquisitive than he usually was.

Ume more or less shrugged as she was asked about her clan mates, though her chance to truly answer his question would come later as he asked for her story. "Oh this is fairly recent, over the last few months." she admitted. "Due to the nature of the gifts I have within the clan, I am highly coveted, and have been a target of assassination and murder since puberty, because of this I was given a guardian. Sadly he was killed protecting me, not long after what I mentioned earlier. So within a few months I lost my guardian, my boyfriend, and my friend, all due to reasons that were my fault." she stated matter-of-factly. "Up until that moment I was always protected by someone, and I suddenly realized how exposed I was. All I knew really was low level ninjutsu, very little taijutsu and nothing in genjutsu. So I changed what I trained, the way I trained... I changed myself." She reached up to pull down her mask and reveal her sharpened teeth.

"Perhaps in Kiri this might be purely an intimidation move, but among Akari it makes a great many things simpler, including how we gain power. I'm guessing from something you said earlier you already know how we gain power from one another?"

New Allies, New Friends

Shinji noted how Ume became much quieter when he talked about dating. He wondered which one she had dated and which she had cheated with, Tatsuo seemed much more likeable though women seemed to be drawn to the more abrasive types like Kotaru for whatever reason. Given Ume’s violent tendencies it didn’t surprise him much that she’d be drawn to the pair of Bannin, though she did say that the situation had occurred a few years ago. It surprised him slightly when she claimed she had only shifted to assassination missions over the last few months. “You seem to have picked up the basics pretty quick, if you want any extra practice I wouldn’t mind teaching you a few things” he offered though he didn’t care much either way.

He listened with a little more interest as she spoke about her clan. ‘Gifts?’ he wondered, just what sort of rare talent did she possess? Whatever it was the way she spoke it sounded more like a curse if her family wanted her dead because of it. If she had a special ability wouldn’t they want her to grow stronger? Unless it was something they could obtain from killing her, that was the only explanation that made any sense to him. He was beginning to piece it together and gain more insight into how the Akari were raised. No wonder they were strong, much like his own upbringing they had no choice. He exhaled sharply, amused by her sharpened teeth, he honestly hadn’t expected to discover such a thing outside of Kirigakure. “Tatsuo mentioned eating people, back when I met him in Star Country, that’s all. It makes a lot more sense now though, and here I thought my childhood was harsh. As much as it felt like my family was trying to kill me I always knew they were holding back just enough to keep me alive. Accidents happen of course but I was strong enough to survive in the end. I still don’t know what exactly the Akari’s powers are though” he admitted, genuinely curious as to what was worth killing family over. Shinjiro was a callous person capable of a great many cruelties but family loyalty was held in equal regard as loyalty to his village, their name and reputation meant standing by one another despite their internal issues.

Ume was more than a little surprised as Shinji offered to help her practice and she nodded almost too quickly after he spoke. "I will take tips where I can get them. What few tricks I've picked up will only last so long, and I plan to survive." she remarked. As the conversation moved forward, she couldn't help a grin when he reacted to her teeth. It wasn't an overly common thing in Iwa, and always seemed to surprise people. She seemed to visibly flinch as he mentioned Tatsuo by name but she tried to bury the reaction. "Cannibalism." she remarked, nodding. "Without giving away too many clan secrets... that's a big part of it. We take power from one another, but it requires cannibalism."

Ume grinned but it was without mirth. "Honestly it used to make me squeamish as all hell. But after my mother tried to kill me for what I have, then my father... well, eventually I had to embrace it." she looked over at Shinji for a moment, noticing movement out of the corner of her eye but for now she didn't say a word about it. "So you got to kick an Iwa shinobi's ass already, what do you want to do next with your day?"

The young assassin smiled softly as Ume accepted his offer. Shinjiro had never really taken the time to help anyone train before, at least not aside from other Karagata. Nonetheless, he felt a connection to this girl due to their shared interests and difficult childhoods. He noted the careful navigation around giving any idea as to what the clan's abilities were, only spurring more curiosity. Given that he would likely be working with Kotaru and Tatsuo more in the future he deemed it necessary to learn more about how they fought and what to expect should Iwa ever turn against Kiri in the future. They already knew most of his secrets though the specifics of his poisonous body were hidden even from his own village, a recent procedure performed, part body modification, part ritual, acquired at great cost through the black markets of Rice Country; The Shinigami’s Curse it had been called. It was part of the reason he had come to prefer the company of demi-humans, the risk of accidentally killing them through close contact was lessened significantly.

Shinjiro furrowed his brow, visibly angry at the thought of a parent trying to kill their child for power. He wasn’t sure what to say to that however, comforting others wasn’t something he had much experience with. “Bastards. As their child they should be proud of your power. My dad is ruthless, my sister cruel and my brother utterly unforgiving. They tortured and drugged me for years, but they also healed me and let me rest before I broke completely. In the end everything they did was to make me stronger. As a shinobi we all face death, some earlier than others but a life is wasted if it hasn’t been given the chance to reach its potential.” He spoke passionately. He had struggled with conflicted feelings about his upbringing his entire life, traumatized by the deaths of two of his younger siblings, conditioned to believe that life was meaningless. Aimi, Yuuto and Zekka had changed his perspective, shown him that life had value, that everyone deserved a chance to find their strength. But that didn’t change the fact that he was a weapon and when it came down to it he would empty himself and kill anyone he had to, even a friend. His soul was tainted, in a way Shinjiro was already dead and only this poisoned, violent body remained.

He caught her glance, realizing that she too noticed they were being followed. It wasn’t of any immediate concern to him, in fact he felt excited that perhaps he’d get a chance to indulge in some real violence. As a Jinchuuriki Shinji had been routinely followed for about two or three years and in that time had honed his already keen instincts greatly and learned to sense others simply from the vibration of their movements. His sense of smell was also extremely keen and in several transformed states his hearing could be enhanced drastically. In addition to simply being aware of his surroundings and familiar with family members constantly testing him and attacking in ambushes such things felt completely normal and routine to him. Even now it was entirely possible they were only being followed to keep an eye on Shinji while he explored the village. One way or another he was sure they would find out the true intention soon enough. “Why don’t you find us somewhere secluded so we can be alone. I’d rather not have an audience when I’m teaching you” he suggested. Despite his growing familiarity to fame he was still a rather reclusive individual.

To Ume, as Shinjiro described how he grew up, she couldn't help thinking that it wasn't any better than how she grew up. His family may not have tried to literally eat him for power, but to her it sounded like they put him in just as much danger. She put her hands in her pockets however and kept her thoughts to herself, still keeping an eye out for the one following her. She nodded as he asked about an secluded place and motioned for him to follow her. "I know a good training ground. Normally clan grounds would probably be a good idea, but that would just draw eyes when it comes to me." she told him, sighing as they walked along.

"About my family." she started as they walked. "My father at least had an excuse. When we died we found out he had some kind of rare disease, a plague they called it. It had literally melted most of his brain to mush by time he attacked me so he probably wasn't in his right mind. But it made us think maybe my mother had it too and we just didn't know it." She reached up and lowered her hood, her blue hair falling about her shoulders as she did so. She then shrugged out of her jacket, all to motion to her shoulder and arm where there was a strange spiral scarring down the skin. "I had it for awhile too. For a bit I had even built a ninjutsu style for it. It didn't suit me, but it helped me stave off the affects for awhile until they could find a cure. Apparently its only fatal in my clan, weirdly enough."

Carrying her jacket in her hand she kept walking and sighed, suddenly stepping closer to Shinji. She slid her arm between his and his side, semi-hugging his arm to her as she rest her head on his chin as they walked. "We have a follower." she told him quietly, trying to ignore a boy with bright green hair not far behind them. "He's part of my clan so he's after me... if he's stupid enough to attack, you might actually get to see how we attain our power. If he's here to try and steal mine, I'm sure as hell not letting him walk out with his."

New Allies, New Friends

The pair of assassins continued to walk through the underground city, it was rather impressive really with how structurally sound everything was but more than that how easy it was to forget one was underground. It seemed there were many open spaces, full-sized training grounds, markets, entire apartment buildings, just about anything one might experience above ground save for direct weather conditions, instead lit by Fuuinjutsu lights and kept warmer than the snowy surface though still mild in temperature. Various types of dense stone and metal composed most of the structures, certainly the village was a haven for those who specialized in such fields of elemental ninjutsu. Shinjiro himself was born with Doton as his primary affinity though his talents in ninjutsu were abysmal and he could still barely perform on par with a Genin with his extremely limited repertoire and skill set. Close combat was of course his specialty and though there were many open spaces so too were there an array of service tunnels or more enclosed walkways leading from one section to another. He would be extremely wary of his surroundings and aware of other potentially dangerous ninjutsu that this stalker might employ. Of course, if he sensed fine hand movements that might indicate hand seals then he would have no choice but to act swiftly.

Despite his high attentiveness, Shinji’s body language seemed completely at ease, he still walked silently as he usually did though his pace didn’t change even slightly unless it were to slow for Ume to make a turn and continue leading him along. His hands were relaxed, and his eyes focused ahead, looking around at the various interesting features of this new part of the village he was experiencing. Occasionally he would rub the back of his head or put his hands in his pockets but no more often than what he usually did. The young man’s interest was piqued as Ume spoke of a plague that had afflicted her family. He stopped for a moment, assuming she would too so he could take a better look. Removing the glove from his left hand he touched the scar with his ashen fingertips, “interesting, I don’t think I’ve had that one” he noted in genuine surprise and interest. “As a kid I was always sick” he explained, “I was an experiment of sorts, just about every poison, sickness and disease known to Kirigakure was slowly introduced to me, started when I was around 7 I think and by the time I was 13 my body was able to fight them all off” he stated hollowly, that pain had long been buried, like so many others. He knew all about the burden, suffering and hopelessness of such sicknesses, expected to train despite his organs fighting off complete failure, every motion bringing agony from wounds both internal and external. He was relieved that someone else had managed to survive an ordinarily fatal disease, the many prisoners and slaves that had been tested in order to determine the necessary antibodies and cures had not been so lucky and even his younger brother had died; though the diseases only weakened him, it was another shinobi that delivered the lethal blow. Ultimately Shinjiro was the only successful case that his sister experimented on.

He put his glove back on and continued walking with her. While he had looked at the scar, he had been able to catch a glimpse of their stalker out of his peripheral vision. “At least you know it wasn’t anything personal and it turned out you were stronger than both of them anyway. You earned the right to keep your unique trait.” He assessed mater-of-factly. He was somewhat disappointed that she no longer had access to the manipulation of the disease, he would have been interested in seeing if it affected him. His body was more resistant to poisons and drugs than actual mutation or cancers, especially ones relating to surface level contact or enhanced through chakra yet he still found himself wanting to discover the limits of his body. The young man gave a somewhat wary look as she linked her arm with his, he still wasn’t used to close contact that wasn’t violent. He had hugged only a handful of people in his life and even kissed two girls but that was about the extent of his experiences. His brother had been insisting that he get laid already, through a family connection or even from one of the higher class brothels but before he could take him up on the offer Shinjiro had been sent off to Iwa, only shortly after competing in Star country and embarking on several other week-long missions and adventures in the last few months. There simply hadn’t been enough time.

The sixteen-year-old Jinchuuriki let out a short huff as she whispered in his ear. So that’s what this was about. For a moment he felt a little insulted, he had assumed she was a lower rank than him, likely a Special Jounin and certainly far less experienced in espionage and assassination. If she noticed the follower then of course he did too. Nonetheless the frustration quickly passed, dispelling non useful emotions was part of his diligent training after all, both as an assassin and a host to the rage fueled Genma sealed within him. “Yeah” he acknowledged casually. “I could kill him before you can blink” he stated confidently, his predatory green eyes taking on a dangerous look. He yearned for it, the opportunity to spill blood and assert his dominance and control. Though he was also curious, and he enjoyed a good show. “If you insist though, he’s all yours” he offered chivalrously. He was a part of her clan after all and she was the target. Honor warranted that she had claim on the kill.

Ume could almost feel Shinji bristle under her grasp as she spoke, though she didn't mention it to him. She grinned at his offer, keeping her head resting against his shoulder and turning a bit to look up at him. Some might think she was making eyes at him, but the closeness was just a means to speak without being overheard. "Normally I'd be happy for the help." she said, a complete lie. She hated working alongside others anymore, mostly because she felt like a threat to them, but she felt the need to at least be diplomatic for the moment. "But if he's after me, it's for my shiin, making it a clan matter. I'll have to deal with it, but there is an upside... you'll get to see more of what members of my clan to do."

She remained close to him as they made their way into the training area, waiting until the last moment when their follower wouldn't be able to keep his presence a secret much longer. As they walked through the entryway and it began to open up, she suddenly released Shinjiro and seemed to spin away. Funneling chakra through her body she manifested her shiin and as their stalker came through the narrow area he would have quite a sight waiting on him. A brilliant shade of blue, her Astrashiin came up and over her head into a spartan looking helmet. Her Temershiin formed into a wide tail from her lower back. And her Eroshiin wings erupted into place, the lower parts of them lined with the jagged weapon of her Phasmashiin. She grinned at the boy with her jagged teeth showing and watched him panic.

But the moment he saw her, though he faltered briefly, his yellow phasmashiin formed in place along his forearm as a blade and he grinned. "That Astrashiin is mine, bitch." he said, rushing at her.

The young shinobi grunted in agreement. He was hopeful that he would learn more about the Akari clan and he was looking forward to seeing Ume in action. The pair moved through the corridor and into a rather barren training area, no more than 20 meters in diameter the cubed room had steel walls and ceiling and a rock floor, light emanating softly from each corner. There were numerous dents, scratches and scorch marks on the walls, but they were all shallow, attesting to the strength of the structure. It seemed this area was well suited for one on one training sessions or small groups skirmishing in relatively close quarters. The ceiling was still high enough for some form of aerial combat and maneuvering through one would have to be careful. Ume had certainly done well in leading their prey here, the perfect place to turn the hunter into the hunted.

As Ume spun away from Shinji the young Karagata gently removed his gloves and stowed them away in the extra pouch at his lower back. The gloves were mostly meant to hide the discoloration of his hands, though in combat he preferred to have his hands bare. Slowly he turned, still keeping his posture relaxed though his eyes gleamed with intensity and beneath his mask his lips curled into a sadistic smile. “You fool. You have no idea how fucked you are, do you?” his words seeped like venom, his aura seemed to change and suddenly the true weight of his power seemed to emanate through the room. And yet he was still containing himself. The green-haired man that followed them was not weak by any means, strong enough to have confidence in himself but too arrogant to realize just how much of a monster he was trapped in a room with and that wasn’t even factoring Ume herself who surely was stronger than she appeared to most. Shinji could discern her skill of course; she would not be defeated easily but even if the pair of Akari turned out to be fairly evenly matched there would only be two people walking out of the room alive. That much he could guarantee.

The Jinchuuriki whistled lowly, impressed by Ume’s transformation and finding the brilliant blues aesthetically pleasing against the deep shade of blue of her hair. “That’s a good look on you” he complimented, casually inspecting the new features. It reminded him as a combination of his own partial transformations and the type of fleshy growths the Toukai clan were known for but much more beautiful than either. He moved behind her, inspecting the blades on the wings, ‘Handy’ he noted, they were certainly an upgrade from the bat-like wings he was capable of growing. He wondered if there were any animals that had bladed appendages, probably not, though he could utilize various types of spikes at least. Running a finger from each hand along the blades of each of her wings he verified they were in fact quite sharp, “Are these what you’re after? I’m still new to all these terms, I’m sure she’ll be happy to let have a look at least” he goaded, lowering his mask to suck on his bleeding fingers. That had stung a little, but it didn’t bother him, in fact he could barely feel it. More importantly, the woman’s blades were now coated in his blood, which would give her enough of an advantage he hoped. One good cut to her opponent and he’d find his entire body paralyzed within a minute, able to only barely speak and breathe shallowly, courtesy of a poison extracted from certain species of Octopus. That same poison constantly ran throughout Shinjiro’s blood and saliva, in a weak enough target it could likely even kill someone.

As the man charged her, Ume was aware of Shinjiro close behind her. She stifled her desire to spin at her attacker because of his close proximity and instead she gave a flap of her wings and launched forward, slamming into the man's chest faster than he anticipated. The man was knocked down but he came up to his feet fast. As he came at her again, trying to strike her with his Phasmashiin. She drew one of her daggers quickly and blocked his phasmashiin with it, her other hand coming up fast and slamming into his face with a spray of blood. "Bitch!" He yelled as he staggered back.

Ume grinned, letting him get his space for a moment as he staggered, it was almost like she was more of a cat playing with her food. "Walk away and I won't that blade for myself..." she said coldly. "But keep this up and I'm going to take it for my prize. I'll line my Temershiin with it, it'll come in handy." she continued, grinning as she watched him decide.

It seemed he made the dumb decision and came at her again, and for the first time he realized just how much slower than her he was. He rushed in, swung in with an arm which she ducked under and knocked him onto his back. She pinned him by his wrists and her teeth made contact just below his neck. As he screamed, she ripped away flesh with sprays of blood using her teeth to rip the skin off him. "Know what....Shinji!" She turned and looked at him, blood running off her lips and chin as she looked at him. "Our shiin are born from organs, I can take his power by eating his and I know exactly where it is... you tell me, should I be merciful and kill him first, or make him watch me eat it first?"

As Shinji tasted his own blood from his sliced fingers, Ume charged forward. The young man’s expression lit up with interest, she was faster than he expected, nearly as fast as him in fact. Likely she was using some kind of boost but nonetheless that was extremely impressive. ‘She must be a Jounin then’ he assessed, grinning as he removed his pointer fingers from his mouth and pressed against the cuts with his thumbs. The bleeding would stop shortly, he healed rather quickly. As Ume knocked the attacker back, Shinji decided he needed a better viewing angle. Dashing forward in his own burst of speed he flanked to the left, seeming to nearly flicker in his rapid movement. When he arrived at his new location, he casually shoved his hands in his pants pockets. He observed the woman’s fighting style, more of a brawler than he had figured. A true assassin could have killed their opponent in the first swift motion, though it seemed she liked to play around a little. He couldn’t blame her, when an opponent was significantly weaker than him, he was known to toy with his prey on occasion. Hell, even in his earlier matches against the Iwa shinobi he had been holding back considerably. After all, one’s true talents as an assassin should never be revealed in front of a crowd. He had displayed a variety of skills back in the tournament in Star Country but had intentionally refrained from using his poisons, which to this point he hadn’t shown anyone.

The young assassin was, therefore, both disappointed and relieved that Ume hadn’t realized the secret weapon he had provided for her. The Kirigakure shinobi smirked as Ume gave the man an option to retreat. How cruel, clearly this man wouldn’t be leaving the room alive. Still, the taunt was interesting, Shinji was learning more about how the Akari’s shiins worked. It seemed they could absorb and modify a trait of another, applying it how they saw fit rather than how it presented itself in its original form. Judging by the number of unique traits Ume had compared to the paltry bladed arm of the attacker there was a great disparity in the number of fellow Akari each had killed and absorbed traits from. One last charge and then the attacker was brought down, tackled again, and bit at the neck area. Somewhere within him Shinji could feel Vorashu stirring, appeased by the animalistic way this young woman fought. Simple, aggressive, and effective. Of course, such a tactic would never work against someone as skilled as Shinji though Ume’s ability to gauge the skill level of her opponent and act accordingly was a feat in itself.

Approaching casually, Shinji found himself smiling ever so slightly. He was glad to have met this girl. As the smell of blood filled his nose, he felt his bloodlust slowly rising. She looked up at him, her sharpened teeth stained red and as she spoke his smile grew. “Show me. Eat it” he instructed, crouching next to her and the bleeding man, meeting the terrified eyes of their prey. He could feel it now, embrace it. The complete power and control over this man’s fate. Shinji knew that life was meaningless, some would reach their potential, others would be cut short but in the end nothing anyone did really mattered. All one could do was find something to devote themselves too, for Shinji it was his loyalty to the Karagata and Kirigakure. Anything else he did in between, whatever satisfaction he could get in this miserable life he would take, and he would not waste time feeling any regret. There was enough pain and suffering in this world already without burdening himself further.

Ume had seen bloodlust in her clanmates before, usually directed at her. It wasn't a new site, but somehow as she met eyes with Shinjiro this one felt different and his words invigorated her. Perhaps it was the chance to show off, but she relished the feeling that washed over her now, even as she turned her head to look at the Akari beneath her. "No! Please! I'm sorry!"

Ume grinned at him. "Seems you tried to bite off more than you could chew." she replied, giggling. "I gave you a chance to escape, and you didn't... so I take your life and power as my claim. But first... your shiin." She suddenly lurched forward, slamming her head into his and dazing him enough that she could reliably let go of his wrists without worrying about him trying to grab hold of her any time soon. One of her push knives was quickly pulled from a pouch and she sliced across his torso, right over his solar plexus and deep, and the blade disappeared into its pouch once more. Not even a heartbeat later her hand slid into the slice in his flesh with a sickening sound and she grinned as he screamed.

His hands grabbed at her arm, her shoulders, anywhere he could. The blade against his arm forgotten in his sheer panic as she dug around. "Oh I found your ribs dearie..." she said in a sing-song voice before there was a resounding crack and the man let out a wild scream of pain once more. "Ah ha! Gotcha!" she suddenly said in victory, yanking hard as she withdrew a bright yellow organ from him, her hand and arm bloody up to her elbow.

She looked right into the Akari's eyes as she took her first bite of the fleshy organ.

And she looked right into Shinjiro's eyes for the second.

Shinji watched carefully, his eyes gleaming with intensity as he smirked sadistically. Often, he was indifferent to death, primarily enjoying himself when he felt the animalistic instincts take over in his transformed states. But watching her, the beauty of her form so similar to his own partial transformations and the rush of power coursing through her, he found himself captivated by it all. He hadn’t expected such open brutality in a foreign village. He had to actively restrain himself, so badly did he want to take part. When Ume sliced open his midsection however Shinji couldn’t resist any longer. When she reached in and the man screamed, Shinji covered his mouth with his hand, muffling the sound. He wasn’t sure what the laws were regarding killing other shinobi, even in self-defense but he certainly didn’t want anyone breaking up their fun. The bladed arm lashed out to grab and potentially cut the sadistic kunoichi and Shinji acted with his other hands, grabbing the man’s hand and twisting it so fast and with so much force that not only did his fingers break but so too did his elbow snap.

The combined pain was enough to make the green-haired man pass out for a few moments and shortly after Ume ripped out the organ the man’s convulsing body would begin to seize up. It was impossible to tell whether this was from the poison within Shinji’s blood, introduced via his cut finger or simply the grip of death beginning to take him as blood rapidly left the body. Nonetheless, Ume had acted swift enough that certainly the organ wouldn’t have had time to be contaminated by any poison. “Too noisy” he uttered coldly, glancing toward the entrance and listening for a moment until he was satisfied nobody was immediately arriving. With that concern temporarily dispelled Shinjiro could focus his attention on Ume herself. The hand covering the Akari’s mouth moved, jabbing his fingers into a pressure point at several pressure points at the base of his skill and neck and starting him awake, eyes frantic but body unable to respond. There had still been enough light in the Akari’s eyes to see his own organ feasted on before him. When Ume turned to look Shinji in the eyes for her second bite, vorashu finally awoke in full, ‘The mark of the beast runs stronger through her than you. Give in to your instincts, embrace every impulse. Feast!’ Vorashu demanded, flooding Shinji with his will and influence and for once the young assassin did not fight it. He had learned to embrace the Genma’s gifts, even relish in the power and the feeling of domination but never before had he consumed human flesh while in his human form.

The impulse came over him in a wave. He didn’t consider the potential repercussions of infringing on what was surely some kind of clan ritual of sorts. With both hands he took her hands in his, cupping together around the organ. He wouldn’t take much, just one bite, the rest he gathered was essential for her to consume. But one bite he would take, ripping deep with his teeth and savoring the feel of the blood pouring down his face and soaking over his hands. Before he swallowed however, he would look back at her, “Oh? Sorry, did you need all of it?” he wondered, finally realizing what he was interrupting, mumbling a little as he spoke while keeping the chunk of organ in his mouth.

It was fortunate that Ume was one of the more laid back of her clan, though fortunate for her or for him she wasn't entirely sure. As he took a bite of the organ she suppressed an annoyed chuckle. But she was glad he paused, clearly not swallowing yet as he realized he might have, and did, make a mistake. She did need the entire organ in order to take on the shiin but if she had missed out on it she would have eventually shrugged it off. But as he paused and asked instead, a wicked grin crossed her lips. She could have simply said yes and demanded the piece back, but instead she reached out with a bloody hand to grab him behind his head and pull him into a hard kiss. She took the piece of organ back from him in a deepened kiss, leaving a smear of blood across the side of his face and back of his head as she did so.

When she pulled back from him she finished the organ quickly and only then nodded and answered his question. "Yes. To take on his weapon, I must consume the entire organ. Though it'll take time before I can actually manifest and use it, so sadly I can't show you more just yet." she remarked, looking at him a moment and grinning. "It isn't often an Akari finds someone outside the clan as bloodthirsty as we are." she added, tilting her head a bit to stare at him before motioning to the rest of the body on the ground under her. "I've taken what I need though, so if there's more you want you're welcome to it."

Shinji was prepared to spit out the fleshy chunk of yellow Shiin and even expected she might be angry with him. He wasn’t prepared for her to suddenly kiss him, however. His eyes widened in surprise, though as he felt her bloody hand at the back of his neck and her lips against his he knew there was no point in resisting. In fact, he quite enjoyed it, reciprocating, and learning quickly how to kiss deeper and involve his tongue slightly, passing off the chunk of flesh after a few long seconds of kissing and exchange of tongues. Unlike his cousin Shiv or even his elder brother and father Shinji was not very experienced with women, though he could appear relatively lighthearted and normal on the surface he was in fact emotionally closed off from most and had never allowed himself to consider any form of relationship. And only recently had his sexual urges been awakened, for some time he had suppressed any such primal desires but at his age now and with the ever influencing Vorashu seeping into his mind something had to give. Slowly he was learning how to embrace and manage the violently opposing controlled teachings of the Karagata’s assassins’ mantras and the raw passions and impulses of the Body Genma.

The beautiful and brutally violent Iwagakure kunoichi pulled away after retrieving the organ. Shinji was left with shallow breaths and a rising heart rate, wild eyes betraying his hunger for more as he forced himself to remain composed. “I see” he breathed, exhaling slowly. A struggling sound escaped the mouth of the dying man, he seemed to have some fight left in him despite his eyes glazing over and blood soaking through his cloths and beginning to pool around him. It was time to release him from this world at last. Shinji’s hand shot out grasping his neck firmly, the veins in his hand bulging as he cut off blood flow to the man’s brain instantly, a second later he was unconscious and this time he would never come to again. With a swift jerk and twist the man’s neck was snapped, severing the spine and allowing him to die instantly.

The teenage assassin and member of the seven swordsmen smirked proudly as she regarded his violent nature. “Funny, I had the same thought about you. My family is known for their unforgiving nature, ‘Never cross a Karagata’ they say but there are many others within Kirigakure just as violent and brutal as us. I’ve encountered shinobi from each of the great nations but until now I hadn’t personally experienced anyone that could compare to the nature of us in the bloody mist” he stated coldly. His expression shifted to a grin and an ominous, knowing look as she offered him the rest. He would demonstrate some of his own talents now.

Without warning sickly green chakra seeped out from him, bringing with it a sinister aura of powerful and ancient chakra. Hi hair grew a few inches longer and twisted slightly. “You might want to take a step back” he advised, his voice suddenly deeper and more sinister than before, almost a hollow echo to his words. And with that his body suddenly bulged, his clothing and weaponry seeming to melt away, replaced by thick fur as his form expanded and manifested itself into a particularly large grizzly bear. Weighing nearly 1500lbs in this form and over 10 feet tall if he were to stand on his hind legs and about 5 feet tall at the shoulder when on his four legs Shinjiro was a behemoth of rippling muscle, his power in this form comparable to Iwagakure’s Kage and the Bannin Tatsuo who stood as next in line.

Opening his maw wide one could see how truly massive his dense skull was and the range of his bite, large teeth far more deadly than any kunai. In one swift motion he ripped off the dead man’s head, crunched it once with a sickening sound, as easy as biting into gum and then swallowing it whole. Next came the limbs, each one torn off effortlessly and chewed in a few bites before being gulped down. The torso took a little longer and it would be at this point that Ume would realize the numbness and tingling that would set into her body. By the time he finished devouring the torso, blood soaked across the fur of his jowls, Ume would be completely paralyzed, able to only speak and barely move her face, head and eyes. She would still be able to feel her body though it would simply not respond to her mental commands.
Jutsu UsedShow
Grizzly Bear
B-Ranked Kaerujutsu
Prerequisite: Form 1
Once in at least the first form Shinji can transform himself into a large grizzly bear. In this form he stands 4 meters tall on his hind legs or 2.5 meters at the shoulder when on all fours and Weighs in at just over 600kg. This transformation grants Shinji +7 Strength, +7 Stamina, +5 Speed at the cost of -5 Taijutsu, -2 Control, -2 Instinct.

[Shinigami’s Kiss] (Four 250ml bottles)
A-Rank Coating Poison
A poison utilized by Shinjiro in order to render his victim's helpless, paralyzed from the neck down. In its original state this thick poison has a grey coloration though when infused in Shinjiro’s body it can be applied from any of his bodily fluids including his blood, saliva or sweat. Just a few drops introduced to the victim's system via entry though skin contact, blood stream or mucous membrane is enough for the poison to begin taking effect. It will begin as a slight tingling sensation in the area surrounding the entry point of the poison, before developing into full blown paresthesia of the entire body before the paralysis sets in. Once the paralysis is in place, it will prevent the victim from controlling their conscious motor functions. They will still be able to breath, their heart will continue to function as normal, but they will have no conscious control over their body. The only part not affected is their ability to move their eyes, slightly turn their head, and their ability to speak.

Ume stood and took a couple of steps back as Shinjiro transformed. She was astounded by what she saw, and felt a jealousy rise up within her as she watched him turn into a full sized proper bear, causing her to find the green hue that had surrounded him rather ironic. She watched him devour the corpse, morbid fascination overtaking her as her eyes saw a wild animal consuming its prey. It was something she could never have hoped to observe so close in the wild. Yet her mind knew this was no wild animal but a man, a shinobi no less. She watched him at every step, hardly noticing an issue within herself, at least at first.

A tingling spread through her body and a puzzled look crossed her eyes. She looked down at her own body, lifting her hands up to examine them as she stared at the blood covering them. The tingling turned to numbness and seemed to spread further. "What the hell?" her own voice sounded almost foreign to her and even though her hands were in front of her she suddenly found she couldn't move them. Without the use of her muscles her balance began to go, her body falling backwards to the ground, not unlike a stiff board falling.

Shinjiro had been so caught up in his feast that he hadn’t even considered that Ume had been exposed to his poison in his saliva, aptly named the Shinigami’s Kiss. Though it wasn’t lethal on its own it could easily prove a death sentence to anyone he bore any hostile intent towards, for with their body deprived of motion they could be swiftly and easily dispatched. While his body had been conditioned to be immune to poisons since he was 9 years old and had first been promoted to a Genin, the infusion of various poisons into every part of his body had been a recent addition, a procedure he had sought out in Rice Country not more than 2 months ago. Thus far he had yet to tell anyone about this ability or demonstrate it in any tournament or sparring match. It was his final secret, a last resort in case his skills as an assassin, a swordsman and his powers as a Jinchuuriki weren’t quite enough. The young man had gone to great lengths in order to ensure his deadliness as a shinobi.

Swallowing the last of the corpse the large grizzly only looked up when it heard the sound of Ume hitting the ground. “Shit!” the beast uttered in a low growl, another glow of green chakra and suddenly the bulking form shrunk and fur was replaced with textured clothing and weaponry. “Ah, damn. Forgot about that” he realized sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head innocently as he kneeled down over her. “You know, very few people are aware of the poisons running through me. If we were back in Kirigakure I might kill someone like you to keep that quiet” he whispered threateningly, eyes suddenly seeming to fade and lose the playful light to them. There was a moment of obvious consideration. He supposed he could kill her, evidently, this was a convenient place for such crimes. There was nothing tying him to her, though she did have connections to Tatsuo and technically that man was his commanding officer as long as he was in Iwagakure. That would make things inconvenient. “It’s a good thing I like you” he added, smirking with more playfulness as he focused on neutralizing the poisons that ran through his fluids. That would probably be for the best, so he didn’t accidentally paralyze her again. Once the paralyzing poison within his body was neutralized, he would lean forward and kiss her once more. This time she would feel the uncomfortable sensation of poison being drawn out from her body, flowing into her saliva and then absorbed into Shinji’s and neutralized. Slowly control of her muscles would be returned, feeling perhaps a little sluggish at first as her body recovered from the minimal damage that had been done to her nervous system.

Ume lay there frozen, listening as Shinjiro finished off the corpse, hearing his swearing. A moment later he was kneeling over her as she looked up at him. But as he made his threat, she didn't seem to flinch. Perhaps it would be odd to Shinji to see, but the look in her eyes made clear that even if she were able to she wouldn't beg for her life. She wouldn't try to appeal to him in the least, if anything she simply lay there silent and waiting to see what he would do. 'Irony on irony.' she thought to herself. 'Bad enough a kiss did me in like I've done to others... but if he killed me right here would anyone else even notice? Kotaru might, but would Tatsuo? Would he care? He'd probably be happy I was finally gone...'

If anything she didn't show a lick of shock or surprise until he mentioned liking her. Her eyebrow quirked as he prepared himself before kissing her once more, this time the poison leaving her body through discomfort an pain, a groan against his lips as feeling began to return. As he kissed her and she wiggled her fingers, she found her body was hers again. It wasn't long before she was returning the kiss, deepening it, and hooking a leg behind one of his and flipping him onto his back. But she went with him, resting on top of him as she was smirking down at him moments later. "You know, a month or two ago I could have gotten revenge with a kiss that would have left you coughing and hardly able to breathe.... now all I have is genjutsu and that just doesn't seem right now."

Honestly Shinji had expected at least a little fear in her eyes, even if she didn't go as far as pleading for her life. It was yet another moment that made him appreciate the similarities between the two of them. He had come to respect Ume and felt that he understood her, at least on a surface level. Her close quarters skills seemed like they could use some refining but overall she portrayed herself as a promising and skilled shinobi, perhaps only a year or two older than himself. He felt completely confident in his decision to spare her. Even if she told others about his poisons it was a secret that would likely find its way to the ears of her superiors before long anyway.

His upcoming mission was to assassinate a Daimyo after all, likely he would be inclined to dip into his bag of tricks on such a high stakes assignment. As the poison was absorbed back into him and rendered harmless, Shinji prepared to let the girl up but it seemed her potential brush with death had invoked something in her. She kissed him back passionately and rolled on top of him. At this point he found the arrousal surging through him nearly unbearable. He hoped she knew what she was getting into tempting someone with urges as strong as his. He could restrain himself if absolutely necessary though he hoped almost desperately that he wouldn't have to.

Grabbing her firmly on the butt with both hands he positioned her perfectly against him, pressing against her so she could feel the very apparent reaction she had illicited. Navigating past her sharpened teeth as they kissed deeply further excited him, feeling the occassional prick and scrape as he grew more reckless and felt his restraints giving way. One could practically feel the raw, primal lust radiating from him. Pure strength and animalistic urges. His vibrant green eyes grew wild and faint wisps of green chakra seemed to seep from his skin. "You shouldn't tease me" he growled lowly. "I dont care what you do to me, pain, genjutsu. If you dont get off me soon, I will have you" he promised, making it very clear the state of mind he was now in. The chance for him to reign in his lust was quickly slipping away. The decision to make was in her hands now. There was still other training they could do but one way or another he would need to release some of this pent up aggression.

Ume grinned down at him, part of her of course telling herself this was such a bad idea and no good could come of it. 'Well... some good.' she caught herself thinking, a slight blush crossing her face even as she smirked down at him. 'Well, there is also the fact that I plan to be an assassin, there may be times where this is required to get close to a target. And my only experience is with Tatsuo... and this already feels very different...'

It was pretty safe to say that Ume had little to no experience in this department, and though her own body was reacting to everything around her, and to Shinjiro, she found herself almost a little scared of what might happen next. Still she grinned down at the Kiri shinobi beneath her. "So what the hell are you waiting for then?" she asked. "Training comes in many forms, and I'm sure as hell not against this one."

Shinji looked up at the blue haired woman. The wild look of her, stained in blood and still sporting her wings and tail. She had to be a little crazy to be so fearless when it came to him but he liked that, it seemed to be a common trait of the women he found himself attracted to. He noticed the slightest sign of aprehension as she gave her consent. But that was all he needed. The next thirty minutes or so would be fueled by raw lust and power. Clothes would be shed quickly and Ume would find herself thoroughly ravaged.

When all was done Shinji would find himself on top of the woman, behind her. Many cuts marked his chest from her bladed wings and likewise the young woman would find herself marred by many small bruises where his hands had gripped at in his frenzy. There too were deep red and purple bite marks on both of them, the ones Shinji recieved still bleeding from her sharpened teeth, courtesy of the brief transitions where he had awarded her some more freedom of movement and faced her directly.

The Jinchurriki rolled off of her, laying on his back as he reached for his nearby pair or pants and slipped them on. "Fuck. I can see why Shiv has gained his reputation" he commented, panting as he slowly evened out his breathing, his body slick with sweat and blood. If he was capable of getting drunk he too might end up one day spending his days in a stupor, stumbling from one brothel to another. Until now Shinji had never experienced such pleasure. He wasn't sure how fulfilling it had been for Ume though certainly she would have been pushed to her limits in balancing pleasure with pain. "So how was that for training?" He smirked. Honestly he knew he was inexperienced and wasn't the most sure of how to please a woman but perhaps in time he would learn, if he had a reason to. Given the types of men Ume was attracted to it stood to reason that she might actually prefer more direct and aggressive pleasure.

This definitely wasn't the direction Ume had expected her day to take. But it had been a welcome shift. She was grinning as Shinji rolled off of her and she sat up, sighing to herself, almost a bit painfully, as her shiin finally receded. She could plainly see that somehow the oddity of her formations had fueled his lust, adding to the uniqueness of the experience the pair had just shared. She grinned at him as he dressed, blood staining down her chin still, and some of it certainly was Shinji's. She found her own clothes and managed to get dressed once more, making mental note for a healing soak at home later and some bandaging might even be required. "I think that's the best training I've had in some time." she replied, grinning at Shinji still as she watched him dress.

He hadn't exactly spoken during, but one of his comments after had her wondering if it was his first experience. The question came up to her mind but she never let it from her lips, choosing instead to simply push the thought aside. It hardly mattered now anyway. "Perhaps this is where I should say 'Welcome to Iwa'? Or ask if this is how Kiri Shinobi always greet strangers?" She couldn't help a laugh, grinning like an animal still as she caught her breath. It would probably take some time.

Shinji laid back on the cold stone floor, arms behind his head. The teenager's well-defined muscles rippled in the dim lighting, slick with sweat and blood that dripped through the deep grooves of his abdominals. For some of their primal pleasure, Shinji had formed his own set of large bat wings and a long lizard tail, matching the woman in animalistic features and displaying his own less than human qualities. Of course, as a Jinchuuriki of the Body Genma, master of all animals Shinji’s alterations to his body were practically limitless, even as a Jounin now and a host for 5 years he had still barely tapped into the full potential of the god-like spirit sealed within him. With the pair looking fully human once more the Kiri shinobi was content to enjoy the revelation of these new pleasures he had experienced. Life certainly seemed to be more worth living with that kind of outlet available to him.

He smiled softly as she praised the ‘training’, he was inclined to agree. As much as he enjoyed fighting this was a new way to assert dominance and a much more consuming pleasure. The green-eyed shinobi looked over at the blue-haired woman, “Mostly I welcome people with bloodshed, though this seems a good alternative” he answered grinning. Ume may not have realized it, but she had changed his life forever. It was just a matter of time before he eventually gave in to lust and now there was no turning back, it was a part of him, as prevalent as his thirst for murder and his obsession with training. These three things bound and contained by his loyalty for family and village were what defined him. That was as much as someone like him could hope for. As much as he longed for true intimacy and friendship, he would always keep some distance, always prepared to murder anyone close to him should it be deemed necessary.

As Shinji quipped about greeting with bloodshed, Ume couldn't help a wicked grin as she looked back at him and pulled on her jacket once more. "Well there was certainly some of that too." she replied, moving closer to the man once more and kneeling beside him. It had been a wholly new experience compared to her time with Tatsuo, and for a moment she understood the anger that welled in her at the sight of her ex, and perhaps in him at the sight of her. What she had shared with Tatsuo was wholly intimate, not just physically but emotionally as well. What she had just shared with Shinji was entirely physical. It felt almost strange to look down at the Jounin on the stone floor and realize she didn't feel at all the same towards him as she did Tatsuo.

If she were looking at Tatsuo now instead she suspected even now she'd have trouble holding back. The memories of their intimacy, if she were staring at his bare chest would be enough for her to want nothing more than to lean forward and kiss him deeply, to take him to herself once more.

But looking at Shinjiro was so much different. She didn't feel the same temptation. If someone were to order her right now to try and slit his throat she probably wouldn't hesitate. What scared her wasn't that though, what suddenly unnerved her instead was realizing she preferred her time with Tatsuo over this. Certainly this had been the height of pleasure, but somehow she found herself wanting more, from someone else.

Her thoughts running wild, the girl buried them fast to keep them from ever reaching her expression as she grinned at Shinji still. "Think you have me beat though." she admitted, standing and stretching with a heavy sigh. "I think I need a nap after that."

In truth she needed more than a nap, she needed to organize her thoughts. There was no question in her mind that everything she had just experienced with Shinji felt damn good, amazing even, but already she found half the fun was in the emotional connection, without it... it was work. 'At least I know more of what to do now though if I ever have to resort to such a tactic on mission...'

The teenage assassin laughed sharply, more a quick exhalation than anything, “Yeah, seems that’s a turn on for me, damn near impossible for me to keep my violence in check” he considered, looking up at his bloodied hand, the cut on his thumb had healed already and the blood dried. The smell of iron hung heavy in the air, mixed with other bodily fluids including sweat. “Still, have to take whatever pleasures we can get in our line of work” he mused, sighing. Suddenly he rolled backward casually, in a smooth and controlled motion, sliding along the floor without making a sound, an expert display of body control for even such a simple movement. He grabbed his shirt and then the cloak and weaponry, finishing getting dressed though he left his hood and mask off for now.

Likewise, he felt nothing for the woman in any kind of romantic sense. He saw a lot of similarities to himself in her and there was the physical attraction of course but nothing deeper. He wasn’t sure how he expected to feel after the first time he had sex, some part of him longed for a real connection. Often, he had felt on the verge of something real, but he wasn’t sure if he was just pretending, following along and chasing a sense of normalcy that he could never truly attain. He knew he wished to protect his cousin, he felt loyalty to Maido and he enjoyed the company of Chisaki but was any of that love? If it was, wouldn’t he know it? In the end, sex, physical intimacy, had simply been primal animal lust, the same urges that had been forced upon him, seeping into his being over the last four years. Without the Genma inside him would he be completely empty, just the emotionless husk his family had trained him to be? These were the questions that flooded his thoughts, questions he would likely never receive answers to.

He smirked and stretched as she did, his body cracking a few times and his muscles welcoming the sensation, despite being remarkably limber at nearly all times. The young man was built like a tiger, rippling lean muscle, optimized for perfect speed, power and lethal efficiency. However unlike cats he rarely slept and when he did it was almost never truly restful, not unless he was in an animal form off on his own somewhere. That was the only time he ever felt any sense of peace. His smirk softened into an almost sad smile. “I’ve heard sleep is relaxing, you can if you want. I’ll keep watch or escort you back to your place” he offered dryly. He had been trained to always sleep lightly, his family often ambushing him as he slept to test his reflexes, most times he was at least vaguely aware of his surroundings, his sleep more of a meditative state than anything truly restful and most days he slept for a meagre 4 hours a day with perhaps the occasional nap throughout the day in an animal form should he deem it safe. Though even when he did slip into a deeper sleep the nightmares often woke him up before long.

Ume looked at Shinjiro a moment as he offered to watch over her as she slept, and noticed the nearly sad smile on his face almost immediately. If anything, it made her chuckle a bit. 'Perhaps he's disappointed at not getting a second round?' she thought to herself, knowing full well it couldn't have anything to do with a connection. The man made his stance clear, and even with their villages as allies an actual connection between the two would be incredibly stupid in Ume's opinion. There was always the chance that one day one might have to kill the other. She shook her head at his offer after pondering it over a moment. "I appreciate the offer, but I should get back on my own. Might not look good to some prying eyes if we're seen like this, or if you're seen with me at my home."

Of course, this quickly brought a smirk back to her lips as she headed for the exit. "I should warn you, probably in your best interest not to let on to Tatsuo that you just fucked his ex." she added as she went. "He has a hell of a temper." In truth she meant it mostly as a playful joke, but somewhere in the back of her mind she couldn't help thinking it was good advice regardless, though at this point in time she hadn't seen Tatsuo herself in months at best.

The prodigious young assassin shrugged casually, “Yeah, alright” he conceded. It was sensible enough; he had no desire to attract undo attention and certainly didn’t know anything about her clans policies nor did he care to learn unless it related to something he could exploit in combat. He remain where he was as she headed toward the exit, “Oh yeah, sorry I never really taught you any techniques. Just work on your swiftness and precision, I guess. Good luck on your training” he realized, rubbing the back of his head. He really had meant to practice a little with her but he still felt like the two got to learn a bit of each others styles.

Before she left though it seemed she had a word of advice of her own to impart. His primal eyes gleamed competitively at the thought, “I’ll keep that in mind, not sure I’m ready to fight him yet, hard to say for sure until I see him in action” he considered, he knew at the very least he would be able to hold his own and test Tatsuo but without a greater understanding and observation period beforehand he wasn’t prepared to engage such a clearly powerful opponent. That was simply the way of the assassin, despite knowing his own remarkable strength and many deadly options he could never afford to underestimate an opponent or assume. “See you around Ume” he added with a confident smile. He wasn’t sure if he ever would see her again but there was a distinct possibility given her apparent skill, their similar specialties and the fact that Kirigakure and Iwagakure were increasing joint operation efforts. Once she was gone he would transform into a fly and leave the secluded training ground, as if he had never been there, leaving beyond only the mixed smell of sex and blood and several stains on the stone floor.
