Hot heads in a cold wasteland [Closed Social training]

It was a relatively chilly day in Iwagakure, a few degrees lower and there could even be a tangible threat of snow. Grabbing his white fur coat as he left the house Kazuo jumped down the stairs and ran down the street nearly tripping over a pile of crates stacked near the entrance to the Enkouton compound. His mother had packed lunch for him as he expected himself to be out all day and by the rate he was hasilty scarfing down half a sandwich, it wouldn't last until lunchtime.

It was a rather embarrassing situation to find himself in that despite fire literally being part of his blood he had yet to master any fire jutsu, as such he had spoken to some of his old instructors at the academy and set him up with a partner with similar interests but slightly further along, a training playdate as it were. Turning a corner he stopped at a fast-food stand to grab himself two portions of steamed buns as he was always told it was impolite to not bring a gift. Stuffing the paper bag into a large pocket inside his coat he was happy for the warmth but was hopeful soon he would be the source of enough heat to keep himself warm for the rest of the day.

Making his way through narrow alleys he found himself at an older training near the edge of town that was a little more secluded as even though failures were expected that didn't mean he wanted to be watched or worse. Surveying the training ground he was relieved to see that he was alone and found himself a bench where he could be easily seen his red hair making him easy to spot against the comparatively drab backdrop. Setting the second portion on the bench beside him he began to chow down on his portion of steamed buns, three in all as he awaited his training partner.

Hot heads in a cold wasteland [Closed Social training]

Things were beginning to move quickly now. Having met with his reporting Jounin, and following his clan leader’s instructions to participate in more social training sessions, Kumori was on his way to meet with another Genin. Now that he had higher ranking Shinobi advising and giving him guidance, it seemed he was able to stay busy. He didn’t have much to go off of besides a basic physical description, and that he may be assisting in teaching Katon based techniques. The young Fukusha had never been an instructor before, coupled with the fact that he didn’t have a ton of Katon techniques in his arsenal, he was definitely stepping out of his comfort zone. He thought it was a strange task, but he knew they were pushing him to build relationships outside of his own clan.

As he exited the Fukusha compound, he noticed it was a bit more brisk than usual. Kumori welcomed the weather, as he was sure to be around plenty of heat. Not having much of an appetite in the mornings, Kumori regretfully skipped breakfast. As he made his way through the village, he considered stopping for a snack, but decided against it. He didn’t want to keep his fellow Genin waiting, so he continued to the meeting location. This is something Kumori had been working on, being more considerate of others. He had always felt like no one cared how he felt, so he reciprocated this sentiment. This was proving to be false, and he was working on correcting his outlook on life and others. With this, he approached the agreed meeting location.

The training ground was a good distance from the compound. It was also a bit older than some of the other locations he had frequented, which wasn’t an issue. It was isolated; private. Kumori appreciated this, as he wasn’t entirely sure how this training would go. As he entered the training grounds, he immediately noticed the only other person in the vicinity. He seemed to be eating, sitting on a bench off to the side of the actual training grounds. The first thing he noticed about the boy, from a distance, was his red hair. This was one of the genetic traits of the Enkouten. Kumori had streaks of red in his own hair.

As he approached his fellow Genin, Kumori found it strange that a member of the Enkouten clan needed some help with Katon. Still, he wasn’t one to judge another Shinobi wanting to improve, as his goal was the same. Walking up to the Enkouten, Kumori led with an introduction. The two Genin might already have known the identity of the other, but it seemed like the respectful thing to do. “I am Fukusha Kumori. I take it you will be my partner for the day?” As he spoke, he felt his stomach grumble, but ignored it to focus on the task at hand.

As Kumori had stepped up Kazuo had taken far too large a bite of his breakfast and as a result, his cheeks puffed out resembling that of a hamster, hastily swallowing and half choking in the process he struggled out "Enkouton Kazuo" between a few coughs to clear his airway. "Here take this while I get started" he tossed over a portion of steamed buns wrapped in green paper and tied with some kind of dried reed or grass. "You can call me Kaz, everyone does" he began as he wandered a few feet away and fell into a stance, legs shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent he took a deep breath, partly to centre himself and partly because he still had a few remnants of steamed bun in his windpipe.

Closing his eyes he began to mould his chakra "You see the problem I've got is doton is solid, it has heft and resistance, enkouton does but it's more like trying to handle treacle, it's thick and viscous" it was half conversation and a half stream of thoughts that tumbled out of Kaz's mouth. "Katon is like trying to grasp at the wind but its a hungry wind" placing his arms outstretched he rested his index fingers and thumbs together to form a small triangle "If you don't feed it enough then it flickers out into nothing with your time and more importantly your chakra wasted with nothing to show for it". Whether on purpose or not as the young Enkouton spoke a small spark of flame appeared in the tiny triangle he had formed with his hands and it seemed to follow the example he gave, the spark grew into a tiny dancing wisp of fire that fluttered in the cold Rock Country wind for a few moments before extinguishing out of existence.

"Like I said it's hungry right but if you feed it too much then it's like that house guest with no manners before you know it he's gone through your pantry and fridge and it the size of a damn house" again as Kaz spoke a small flicker of flame danced in the space between his fingers and in the moment previously were a wisp formed, this time it didn't stop there a gout of flame poured from the space, like a waterfall it poured onto the ground melting the frost that had formed on the training sand. Breaking his stance he wandered back over to the bench to his now cold half-eaten remains of a steamed bun "So you got any pointers teach, oh and I forgot to ask, preeetty rude of me actually, what are you training today?"

Hot heads in a cold wasteland [Closed Social training]

Kumori watched as the Enkouten was scarfing down what appeared to be some steamed buns. As he introduced himself, his training compatriot had seemingly bit off more than he could chew--literally. His cheeks puffed out as he struggled to swallow, almost choking on his breakfast. Kumori made a funny kind of face as his fellow Genin managed to introduce himself in between coughs. The young Fukusha raised his eyebrows as the Enkouten said that his name was Kazuo. A fairly common name, coincidentally the same as the current head of the Fukusha clan, and Kumori's uncle. Shrugging off the random observation, Kumori caught the green bag that Kazuo had tossed to him, encouraging him to eat while he warmed up. This actually was a life saver, as Kumori was simply going to starve until their session was done. "Thank you, Kaz." Kumori said, trying not to show how hungry he had actually been. Kumori gently unwrapped the buns, and his mouth watered slightly at the sight of them in his palms.

The Fukusha Genin began eating one of the buns, at a much more modest pace than his peer. He watched on as the Enkouten entered a sort of stance, drawing in a deep breath. The boy closed his eyes, and began to speak, seemingly explaining the struggle he had been having. Kumori listened on, ingesting another steamed bun as Kazuo poetically explained his dilemma. When he put it that way, it made sense how it might be difficult to mix chakra natures. Kumori had only ever used Katon Ninjutsu, so he couldn't imagine mastering another element and then attempting to merge them, even if it was genetic in nature. Katon is like trying to grasp at a hungry wind... An interesting way to put it. If he was being honest, Kumori had never really tried to put into words or describe what it was like to mold his chakra into Katon. The way he described it made sense, the feeding of the wind enough to control the destructive nature of the affinity. "I suppose you're right...and if you feed it too much, you lose control, right."

With this, Kumori began contemplating how he could explain it. It seemed the easiest thing he could do was to show him first. Maybe that would help the Fukusha to be able to put into words the balance needed. Kazuo had briefly sparked a small ember in his hands, before it fizzled out. As he spoke, he formed another small flame, this time falling to the sand below them. The boy seemed to lose some interest, making his way back to the bench and the rest of his portion of buns. Kumori nodded as chewed, sitting in his own thoughts. Still, he wasn't exactly sure how to describe it, as Kazuo asked for pointers, and what he would be working on today. This he was unaware of as well. Kumori hadn't decided on a regimen or what specifically needed attention, but the thought of gaining control over other elemental affinities intrigued him. "Hmm...how about I show you some Katon jutsu and you show me some Doton?" This seemed like a fair exchange, they could simply practice jutsu together. Kumori could try and show him how to mold his chakra more effectively into Katon, and he could show him how he actually formed his other affinities.

"Donton?" Kaz stretched his arms outwards forming the same triangle as before "Doton is easy, it's solid and unrelenting" Kaz began forming small dust particles in the space between his hands. "Think of it like this, you've got an opponent coming at you using taijutsu and you're going to block it, you're not going to budge an inch, you're going to stand there arms ready to block and absorb all his force and momentum and still be stood there after the fact, that's doton".

As Kaz spoke more wisps of dust began to dance and coalesce until there was a solid mass in the center of it all, this mass drew in more and more dust but didn't seem to get much larger but seemed to take on a dull shine. Over the next few seconds, the shine became more and more lustrous "You have to make it dense, as dense as you can make it and maybe just maybe" the lustrous ball of dust began to lose it's earthy brown as the colour drained leaving a grey shine around the mass which had become a perfect sphere. As the colour drained sweat began to form along the genin's temples as he got carried away with his example, he had never gotten this far before in his training with doton and he rather forgot himself at that moment as he strained a poured his chakra and effort into this ball no bigger than a ping pong ball before it split in two.

Falling to the floor the ball had split perfectly in half and while the grey shell was devoid of color it was mere millimeters thick and the remaining interior was a rich earthy brown, Kazuo dropped his arms to his side in defeat "To go beyond doton is to form metal, an even more unrelenting force" he let out a wry chuckle as he looked down at his creation with a mixture of sorrow and pride. "Mastering metal is my goal but probably not one on the agenda today, here now you try, remember stalwart and unrelenting" Kaz wandered back towards the center of the training field and began his stance anew, legs shoulder width apart with his knees slightly bent before motioning for his new friend to come join him
