Entering The Catacombs

Post by Sia » Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:20 pm

Today was a unique day for the Muramasa Trio. Today, Maido would only observe, and act as needed. She was going to put Kayoko and Hisayo through their paces, along with anyone else that might happen to join them that day. Her proposal had been clear, she was going to proceed into the catacombs with or without help. She had a backup plan, a safeguard in place should she fail. She wouldn't fail. Her sensory jutsu reached out, and she felt the souls and sources around her. Hisayo too, was ready for battle and Kayoko was well rested, ready for the day.

Collectively, they each turned invisible then, a volley of needles soaring through the air and straight into the first of the spiders that they saw. Kayoko retrieved the needles, and checked the body, though it had already begun to disperse itself back into the spirit realm. Hisayo opened her senses and narrowly avoided a shot of web that flew past her face suddenly. So it didn't matter if they were invisible. The spiders could still locate them somehow. She imagined it to be sound, or some sort of vibration sense. She looked around, but saw no tracings of webs. She took a few steps forward and threw a needle at the spider, though this one was now alerted to their presence and moved out of the way quite easily.

Suddenly, another spider had descended upon Kayoko, knocking her backwards into a nearby wall. Gasping for air, she channeled chakra and let out a bullet of condensed flame, shooting it at the spider's abdomen as it scuttled towards her. Maido also began to channel chakra, a sickly green aura beginning to envelop her hands as she stepped forwards into the fray. With great speed, she intercepted the spider and slapped it several times in quick succession. Fast, light hits without much strength to them, but with a lingering effect. Maido's lingering will was acidic, and it seeped into the spider's flesh immediately with each hit. It screamed, a wretched, horrible, unworldly horrid scream. Maido ignored it's plights and put it out of its misery, continuing with an intense and rapid palm-thrust combination of blows imbued with acid. With each strike, more and more acid began to afflict her target. Eventually, it dispelled itself. Maido didn't stop, her body flickered to the next, she dove underneath it and slid both of her hands along the underside of the next spider, coming up on the other end before doing a series of hand seals and shooting it cleanly all the way through with a condensed needle of chiton. The needle impaled the wall behind it, and the spider disappeared instantly.

A spider descended on Maido, but she had already sensed its presence. In a poof, she exchanged placed with a large, jagged broken rock and the spider ended up immediately impaling itself upon it. Hisayo literally chuckled at the hilarity of the maneuver and couldn't believe she'd never tried to do such a thing before. She retrieved Kayoko, whom immediately transformed into a large claymore, her heart falling into Hisayo's hand. With a mighty swing, Hisayo began to fell many spiders. Kayoko set herself on fire, and extended her total reach, now becoming more aking to a weapon of giants. To Hisayo though, Kayoko felt light as a feather, and she swung her without restriction or restraint.

A red mist began to roll in then, and Hisayo breathed it in instinctively. Suddenly, she felt different. Whatever mist Maido had created, this one was certainly far more potent than some previous concoctions she had been given. "Let's test this one out then, Kayoko." Upon hearing this, Maido smiled. Hisayo kicked off the ground, and even Maido was surprised by how quickly she moved now. In a single leap, she twirled through the air like a top let fly and she cleaved through three separate spiders, sending fire all about the cavern.

It was much easier to see now, and Hisayo noted that that may have been a mistake. In the light of the newly risen flames, it became very quickly apparent to her; their were a lot of spiders down here. Maido channeled chakra again and set back to work, striking int multitude at the nearest enemy chakra source, she didn't even open her eyes. Her mind's eye jutsu took over, and she moved methodically. She reacted, patiently waiting for movement before sidestepping and applying acid appropriately. Eventually, that spider too fell victim to the affliction of acid and Maido turned her focus on Hisayo and Kayoko again. They were holding up better than she expected, but they were just getting started. These spiders here were tiny, small fry. As the ventured deeper, things would surely get worse.

Entering The Catacombs

Post by Izanagi » Sat Feb 19, 2022 8:47 pm

It had been quite some time since Shinjiro had been inside the stone city that was Iwagakure. It had been a memorable trip all in all, though he couldn’t help but feel disappointed that he hadn’t had the chance to explore the deadly catacombs he had heard so much about. Now, that would finally be rectified. Invited by the woman he had accompanied in his first visit; Muramassa Maido, as well as her entourage, Shinjiro readily accepted. There was nobody he felt more comfortable fighting alongside than Maido, he hoped to emulate such synergy with his members of the seven swordsmen, though the day had not yet come where their ranks were fully restored. And until then, the organization would continue to feel incomplete.

As usual, the trio of women were eager to get started with or without him. Though at least they did always seem to enjoy his presence when he did join them. His own skillset added a certain new dimension of combinations, enhanced by his potential to transform on a whim. Dressed in his usual attire, swords at the ready, well lubricated in his own special concoctions of poison, and legendary arrow at his hip Shinjiro entered the catacombs.

Immediately he felt the shift in the air, cold, filled with death. His senses tingled as the reverberations moved through his feet. “Spiders, eh?” he mused, he truly hadn’t done much research into this place but he was confident in his and Maido’s abilities. They had destroyed entire fleets, conquered countries and slaughtered armies together. What were a few hundred spiders compared to that? Still, he was well trained. An assassin from childhood he knew better than to ever let his guard down and he knew well his own weakness was overextending himself, pushing himself too far. No matter how weak his enemies might be, if there were enough of them, eventually he would tire. Therefore, he would be careful to pace himself.

Of course, he was still a Bannin and Overseer of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. And he had trained to keep up his Zantou style of swordsmanship for an entire day and night if he kept it relatively simple. Wordlessly he drew his blades, letting out a Kiai as he entered his fighting stance before dashing forward, his motions blurred as sliced threw dozens every second, falling in swaths behind him as if they had all been struck simultaneously. These smaller spiders would serve as an adequate warm-up, though he couldn’t help but wonder who else Maido had invited down here. Surely, at least one Bannin of Iwagakure would be accompanying them. Would it be Tatsuo? Or Kotaru? Perhaps he would be fortunate enough to see both in action. Always Shinjiro was searching for those stronger than him to test himself against and learn from. No matter how strong he became he would never become complacent. Within, he felt Vorashu surging with primal glee. The chance to venture into a denizen of such insurmountable odds; it ignited his soul with aggression, the need to dominate and devour.

Situational Awareness
B-rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: [Perception]
Shinji has developed a keen sense of awareness of his environment. His innate attention to detail allows him to memorize the layout of an area or building as well as having a knack for identifying the entrances and exits as well as the positions of any other people in the area and even important details about that person, allowing him to see through disguises or transformations unless the opponent has a technique to mask their appearance of equal or greater rank. This grants him an almost a sixth sense in combat situations and his constant readiness allows him to more easily detect hostile intent and escape from ambushes.

Combat Intuition
A-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: 25 Speed, [Perception], [Close Quarters Combat]
A skill to maximize efficiency of movement, Shinji has learned to utilize his head and body movements to avoid incoming attacks without sacrificing maneuverability or speed. So long as he is able to anticipate an opponents attacks he can make minor ducks, shifts and weaves out of the path of most incoming strikes and projectiles, often allowing him to capitalize on counters based on the openings that a miss provides. Though typically Shinji must be able to perceive an incoming attack, after he has evaded a maneuver once he is far more likely to be able to anticipate and predict an opponent’s attack pattern, often beginning his evasion or block the instant an opponent begins their attack.

[Vibration Sense]
S-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: [Perception]
Becoming finely attuned with his sense of touch and even his ability to hear low frequencies Shinji had developed the ability to feel vibrations extremely acutely. He can detect the slightest movements within a 15-meter radius of himself through solid surfaces, 25 meters if standing on water or within mist or rain and a 10-meter radius from the air itself. From this he can detect the size anything moving around him and their direction as well as approximate weight. This is only effective on moving targets.

*[Zantou • Winter Blizzard]
B-Rank Taijutsu Stance
Prerequisite(s): *[Zantou • Winter Snow].
Building upon its parent technique, this Stance further builds upon further sharpening and refining the practitioner's capacity to focus on the opponent and the task at hand. The practitioner holds one blade forward, parallel to the ground, and holds the other high over the head, pointing toward the opponent. The low blade grants the practitioner the ability to quickly defend against an opponent's attack while the blade raised overhead allows the practitioner to either quickly attack or counterattack with a powerful downward swing or thrust. This pairing of defense and offense serves as one of the cores of Zantou's swordsmanship. Drawing in a deep breath, the practitioner also gathers up their energy and releases a kiai. While in this Stance, the practitioner can very easily ignore non-critical distractions, focusing solely on the opponent(s). They also are able to ignore high heat, deep cold, mild oxygen deprivation, and even a severe amount of pain. They can read the opponents' muscle contractions and body positioning more accurately in this stance, and they are able to read the direction, the type, and the timing of an attack that is imminent. The opponent can still effectively mask their movements if the average of their Taijutsu and Speed stats, rounded up, are higher than the practitioner’s Instinct stat. The practitioner may end this Stance whenever they so wish.

[Zantou • Frost Dragon's Claws]
A-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): *[Zantou • Frost Dragon’s Flight].
A technique specifically designed to help the practitioner fight against an army, the practitioner breaks into a dash, weaving through their opponents. Using the principles learned from Frost Dragon’s Flight, the practitioner quickly launches sudden cuts and thrusts aimed at vital areas of the body, all while dodging incoming attacks, allowing the practitioner to potentially dispatch a large number of opponents with ease. The practitioner can keep attacking and dashing without stopping for a number of posts equal to half their Endurance stat, rounded down, though they may end the technique whenever they so wish as well. The practitioner may use other techniques while executing this technique as well.

"Excellent" Maido said aloud and without pause upon sensing Shinjiro and Vorashu within her sensory range. Hisayo and Kayoko turned to look at her, floating through the air. Maido began to wind skate, then a clone began to shift form and melt, turning into a polearm of sorts resembling something between a rather large skeleton key and a halberd. What was her cloak, was now Hisayo's cloak, and Hisayo held Maido in her left hand, with Kayoko in her right. "Well this is new." She said, and Kayoko murmured in agreement. "This will be quite taxing for you, as you have not yet trained to be ambidextrous, have you?" Spoke Maido aloud, her voice emanating from the back of Hisayo's mind. A pair of eyes took shape in the cloak, as well as a pair of howler wolf lips, gazing in Shinjiro's direction.

"It is good to see the two of you again." Spoke Maido, and a pair of hands emerged from Hisayo's cloak, offering a handshake and a "Thank you for joining us." The cloak disappeared then and as Shinjiro drew closer, he would see Maido standing by Hisayo, wielding a clone of Maido in the form of an odd polearm, indeed with Hisayo as a small claymore. And so many spiders. Spiders were everywhere, spiders were abundant. Spiders were aplenty.

Eggs? Scramble them. Toss them. Set them on fire. Melt them in acid and douse it in gas. Kayoko struggled hard, contorting her chakra in ways she was not at all comfortable with and blasted a bolt of lightning out and sapped a spider right in its face. "Nice shot Kayoko." Spoke Maido, whom then created two more clones of herself. These two also shifted into large polearms, but floated by Maido's shoulders. A spider dropped down, and one of them span counter clockwise and spiralled, sending the spider into oblivion. Maido sharpened them then and coated the weapons in acid. Her hands too then, transformed once again into acid. In a blink, Hisayo substituted her, swapping places and so Maido lashed out then, she performed an aerial kick, from her wind skate and a trail of acid shot out quite far. She rolled away, floated along the ground, and began to do a series of hand seals. With her left hand, she stuck out three fingers and brought her thumb and pointer together in a circle, her nails facing the sky. She flicked her wrist, and faced it towards herself, and Shinjiro would feel a large boone to his body. Vorashu too would feel lighter, faster, stronger, heartier. It would pump through their veins, deep into their souls. Their hearts would feel it, the tug of her dark curse in their holes.

Ume hadn't received a great deal of information, most of what she knew about what she was to be doing involved her being needed primarily in her role as medic, in fact the message had specifically detailed the fact that she could use Mystical Palm. In some ways it was annoying, but at the same time, now that she had healed from the last fiasco that was her last mission, she was eager to get back in the field. She was almost disappointed that in this case it didn't involve leaving Iwa. 'At least I won't have far to go if I end up almost disemboweled this time...' she thought to herself. She wore her usual Mission outfit, though without the jacket. She knew she'd have to take every precaution in this place and that meant manifesting her shiin as quickly as possible. This was not a place to trifle around or play with any ideas or new tactics, no this was a place to take any and every threat very seriously. By time she'd enter she'd already have all of her shiin manifested. The Astrashiin forming the spartan style helmet over her head, her Temershiin and Derghoshiin combined for a wide tail that came out from the base of her spine that could fire from the tip of her tail as desired, and her Eroshiin and Phasmashiin combined for bladed wings, all of which were a pretty shade of blue.

Behind her came her guardian Masako with her long red hair and bright green eyes. The woman didn't say a word though she was clearly on edge and staying within a few feet of Ume to keep an eye on the woman. She already had manifested her pale green Lacrishiin to form over her body, and both of her Phasmashiin ran under either forearm and ran parallel, extending outward like blades.

Though Masako followed, it was Ume who led the two in. Neither woman knew Maido by sight, but Ume recognized Shinjiro almost immediately bringing a mixture of thoughts to her mind which she quickly pushed aside. 'Oh right, this is a bit awkward...' she managed to think to herself before shoving those thoughts away. She took out her bow and readied an arrow, though she did not fire just yet, so far watching to see if any might come close to getting past either of the two shinobi in front of her. So far, her presence hardly seemed necessary as anything other than a weak back up.

Of all of the people that had been recruited for this mission, Maru was probably the least spectacular. He may have also been one of the only ones who actively volunteered, by what he could tell. For years, he had wanted an earnest effort in trying to take back the Catacombs, level by level. Though this was very focused in its objective, it was a test of sorts. What effort would be needed to really penetrate the Spider’s Den? He was about to find out.

The ensemble here was notable. Aside from Maido and her consort, there was a familiar Kiri shinobi, Shinji, whom he had met at the Star Country Festival before the war. There was also an unfamiliar Akari, whose shin almost immediately made her look like a fearsome helmeted warrior. It seemed that she would be focusing on ranged attacks from the looks of it. Given he was also wholly outclassed here, he would follow suit. Weaving a set of hand seals, a large stone shuriken (50 Strength, 1 Speed) would shoot out of the ground next to him. He would catch it in his hands and prime himself to throw. He was content to play a defensive support role if that’s what was needed.

Entering The Catacombs

Post by Izanagi » Mon Feb 21, 2022 3:29 am

In less than 5 minutes after entering the catacombs, the ground lay covered in over a hundred dog-sized spiders. There was a brief reprieve from their waves, though Shinjiro could sense that surely there were thousands throughout the expansive depths, if they had persisted all these years with such powerful shinobi above them, surely they reproduced quickly. ‘Endless hordes will succumb to our might. But in the depths our true challenges await’ Vorashu seethed with anticipation. He could sense it, the ancient energy of one of one of his creations to persist the churn of time. He wondered how many of his original creations had survived to this age, though if any had and been able to survive here surely they had become a truly magnificent specimen by now.

The swordsman approached his companions. Though they had been away often, spending much more time in Iwa lately, Shinjiro still felt an immediate connection and synergy whenever he was reunited. He nodded his head as Maido addressed him. “Ladies. Always a pleasure. Vorashu has missed this too” he admitted, he could feel it flowing through him. Such primal aggression and excitement. If he wasn’t so well trained it would be impossible to contain it. Though his bright green eyes did surge with aggression, eyes that seemed to be a direct window into Vorashu’s soul. He smirked at the clones and transformations. Maido seemed to be having fun already, and if anyone could last all night it was her. He expected he would be carrying her out by the end of this, though if he really let loose he would likely tire faster than her. He wondered if there were any levels they could rest on as they descended. Perhaps he should have been more concerned, but the truth was, especially around Maido he had grown to crave danger and embrace her reckless ways. In a way she was like a drug to him, around her he felt invincible and only craved such a sensation more the longer he went without it.

The spiders were upon them again and Shinjiro began dashing between groups of them, leaving them split in halves or with severed heads in his wake. A few he would stab through the head just for a bit of variety though he kept light on his toes, getting into a rhythm, almost a dance as spider blood and severed parts sprayed and flung from each of his movements. So fast was he that their blood spray didn’t even touch him, several other spiders dead before the first even stained the ground. He had to admire Maido’s artistry, however. The sheer variety of her style, acid, blood and her deadly companions as well as so much more. Though when Shinjiro received Maido’s boon, he inhaled deeply as his body flared with green chakra, glowing around him as he noticed some newcomers. ‘Go wild! Embrace my power’ Vorashu insisted, forcing the chakra through him. And he would. First the large bat wings, then a set of four spider legs emerging from his torso before a black armored turtle shell, a deep brown monkeys tail and bony spikes that extended from his elbows, knees and heels.

Shinjiro noted the newly arrived women had grown various augmentations themselves, and one of them in particular looked quite familiar. A flap of his wings and he moved to within 10 meters of the new additions. “I know you, don’t I. Akari Ume” he recalled. Though he couldn’t see her face given her Astrashiin, the rest of her was quite memorable, though he raised an eyebrow at the outfit before quickly dismissing it. It did seem to make sense. His own transformations seemed to bond even through his clothes but then his fabrics were weaved with various types of fur or silks, all created by animals in some way so that it could be manipulated by Vorashu. His gaze flitted toward the other woman, but she didn’t invoke any kind of memory. He only hoped she would be capable. If these two were support though then that would be most welcome. Lastly, there was the large man trailing behind them. This one he did notice some familiarity. It took him a moment, but he recalled that stern expression and determination. The first guy he had arm-wrestled in Star, the one from Iwa that Kozaki had been working with. Iwa-something. He considered, whatever the case he recalled he had been quite physically strong, almost holding his own before Shinji had crushed his hand. Certainly, he seemed much stronger now, perhaps in the same league as himself now. “I remember you as well. Let’s see what the stone man can do” he mused as he began slowly pulling a large shuriken from the ground. More support then, at least for now. He could work with that.

Of course, standing around making introductions gave a swarm of another 20 or so dog-sized spiders a chance to close in. He would dash backward slashing to either side of him and cleaning decapitating a pair before turning and impaling another pair of spiders with his own spider legs, his tail dipped into his pouch wielding a kunai as Shinji tossed his swords up to his upper spider legs, his upper arms slashed through any that came in from above or attempted to leap at him while his lower continued to impale anything scurrying closer to him and his free, human hands would begin ripping apart bits of carnage, a head here, a leg there, using them to impale and obliterate spiders from a distance of about 5 meters with precise, close-range throws. Every now and then he would dash into another group and similarly make short work of them, allowing a few stragglers here and there that didn’t swarm together to get passed him and be confronted by the new arrivals.

Entering The Catacombs

"Why is it always fucking spiders?" the Iwagakure bannin lamented as he dropped down into the Catacombs, hands in his pockets and the wings of his eroshiin tucked closely to his body. It was technically his day off - even he needed a break now and again - but he had been nearly tackled by a messenger hawk as he sat relaxing in the courtyard of his home. All he knew that there was a swarm of spiders wreaking havoc in the Catacombs, and some Kirigakure shinobi were already on a rampage beneath the village. That could only be Maido. The woman had a penchant for seeking out danger and destruction, and usually Kotaru would have either joined her on his own accord or let her have her fun. But he had been alerted to this spider surge, meaning something wasn't going the way it should. Iwagkure only summoned him in these situations when things were dire.

With this in mind, Kotaru opened his wings to slow his descent, and with a powerful flap he darted toward the swarm's coordinates. He heard it before he saw it. The din of hundreds of scurrying legs and wet squelches reached his ears along with the sound of heavy bodies hitting the cavern floor. After directing a small amount of chakra to the small of his back, eight long tendrils bloomed behind him. Flames engulfed them soon after, and Kotaru twisted his body into a forward flip and crashed in the middle of a dozen dog-sized spiders. He made quick work of them by impaling some with his shiin and setting fire to others, grabbing them with the tendrils and sending their flaming bodies hurtling into others before they could descend upon him.

The first person he saw was vaguely familiar. Once he looked past the strangeness of his extra limbs - spider legs, how fun of him - he recognized the man as Shinjiro, the shinobi who had accompanied Maido to the village. He acknowledged him with a nod and looked toward Maido, a smirk briefly forming as he observed the woman in her element. Someone else caught his eye soon after. It was clearly an Akari, and one look at her astrashiin sent a jolt through his gut. Out of all people, he didn't expect to find Ume in the fray. Kotaru flew over to be near her, the firelight of his katon making his concerned expression seem to morph toward displeasure. "What are you doing here?" Even as he questioned her, his flaming shiin swung behind him and at his sides, keeping the incoming spiders from getting too close.

Entering The Catacombs

The watchful eye of Maido examined Shinjiro and Vorashu the most, beginning to ignore everything else entirely. For this purpose, she didn't use a clone. She liked to witness those two with her own eyes. Her body began to contort, it began to change and spew colors. Red and green mists burst outwards from her cores, her body fading away into nothing. As she watched Shinjiro and Vorashu's combined might pivot themselves through a Kaerujutsu transformation, Maido shifted her body around to change shape as well, mimicking them in her own sort of way, becoming a great chimeric hell beast made of acid and blood.

As Shinjiro took a step, Maido did too. As his body changed, hers did too. An acidic monkey tail, acidic retractable claws, porcupine spikes and an armored turtle carapace of acid. Spider legs, bat wings, the whole ensemble, one at at a time. Hisayo looked at Shinjiro in his cursed abomination of a transformation, witnessing as Maido attempted a copycat technique of the genma in that moment. She performed one transformation jutsu after another quickly, attempting to keep up with Shinjiro's great mastery and prowess. The original Maido then positioned herself with Shinjiro, and the two of them moved in practiced unison in a three sixty fashion. As he took towards the west, she took down the east, it indeed appearing that Maido was an acid clone of Vorashu and Shinjiro in that moment. Breaking her transformation, Maido grinded to a halt, slamming hard into a wall and banging her elbow.

"A little taxed after that one eh?" Kayoko asked. "I do not usually use clones for a reason." Was all Maido said, and snapped her fingers. A red mist escaped her own lips and shot immediately from her to both of her clones, whom inhaled it, reproduced it, and breathed it back out into the catacombs towards Ume, Shinjiro, and Maru. The ringing in her eyes subsided and Maido composed herself. She began to wind skate and tossed a supreme volley of knives Hisayo saw. Hisayo had a moment then to rendezvous with the others, swinging Kayoko through the air, the weight of her suddenly launched Hisayo a quick fifteen meters. It appeared as though she were going to land, but her tip toes barely touched down when she was forcefully launched back upwards by an unknown force, losing her footing and becoming gored through her lung by a spider's leg. Hisayo's eyes opened wide and her hand released Kayoko, instead both of her hands reached for the spiders leg as her own legs attempted to kick off of any possible surface she could find in order to dislodge herself.

Maido snorted. "That looks unpleasant." She said finally, wind skating past Hisayo but offering no assistance other than a slow cap. A clone caught up to them though and ripped its own arm off then, condensing it fully into chiton and enhancing it with Iijutsu chakra. Condensing it down into a needle, it launched it into Hisayo's chest. Bubbles began to spew forth from Hisayo's wound.

One of the Maido clones found itself near Maru, another near Hisayo then, and another near Ume. "Hello young friend, it is good to see you again." Spoke a Maido to Maru, offering a hand to shake as it windskated up to him. "You are...heartier than you used to be." She said acknowledgingly with a nod of affirmation. She swung her hand to clap their fingertips together and the clone suddenly vomited acid, committing a vile blasting act to ail a few spiders nearby. "There sure are a lot of these buggers huh?" Hisayo heard her say.

The clone that met Ume gave her a quizzical look, then poofed out of existence and was replaced by the real Maido, swapping places. The clone passed by Shinjiro then, and examined him and Vorashu quite closely. In the moment, she merely windskated through some spiders, turning herself into a polearm and cutting through many of them in a wide sweeping motion. She flew then towards Shinjiro, the Maido did, after completing her transformation to turn herself into a weapon. A polearm of sorts, basically a long halberd, Hisayo would say.

The handle was a good ten meters, by Hisayo's estimation. The blade took up a tenth of it at one end and reeked of acid. It was serrated, somewhat like a jagged skeleton key. Her scarf adorned Shinjiro then and latched out onto the walls, floor and ceiling nearby, splitting itself into eight different long tentacles, thin as feathers and wirey in appearance but as strong as the mighty suns. The would latch onto enemies, structures, the ceiling, floor, and walls, pulling enemies to him, and him to enemies and the structures.

Maido was covered in blood when she appeared in front of Ume and her companion to introduce herself, admiring their shiin, and teeth. "Oh, I quite like you." She said after seeing Ume's teeth. "You smell like someone I've met before." It never failed. The scent was unmistakable. That was an Akari. Speak of the devil. No sooner had she had the thought than the thot saw him appear. Hisayo laughed. It hurt, what with the wound in her lung, but oh boy did Hisayo laugh. Kayoko snorted. Maido said nothing but gave a polite smile. Kotaru had joined them as well, but Maido at the moment paid him no mind. She had seen something new and interesting to examine, and so for now her attention was rather focused on Ume and her various shiin.

"Muramasa, Maido." She spoke, her cloak dodging about wildly as she windskated up towards Ume. Offering a quick hand shake and polite nod, she smiled a wild smile as her red beady eyes glowed in the dark catacombs. "Kayoko, Hisayo. I believe I was told this one was a medic. Blight tactics today." Maido gestured from Ume to Hisayo and Kayoko as she spoke, introducing them to her as well. "Good to have you on board, team red eyes." Hisayo groaned. She hated blight tactics. Kayoko didn't care. "That's what you get for staying human." Kayoko Jeered.

Maido sensed someone else. She thought she had sensed it earlier but her suspicions were confirmed. An old friend had arrived to help them. Blight tactics for sure then. Maido spoke for herself rather than use a clone now, when Kotaru finally joined them. Two Akari was a treat, a true delight in this dark hour. She could work well with this, she mused, and began to perform a series of forbidden hand seals. A red mist escaped her lips and she wind skated towards the Akari. Her cloak gained itself a hood, and she became shield from the spiders quietly.

"Do they get any bigger than this?" Maido asked them, gesturing towards some of the dead spiders. Hisayo listened to them chat, then spoke up "Heads up." when a corpse flew past her. Maido turned to move out of the way and revealed to Ume and Kotaru that she was, in fact, quite heavily damaged. Her entire left arm was missing, and she had paid it no mind as she inquired her questions. Never the less, some assistance would be most helpful. The wound reeked of blood and acid, with only slivers of bone and lose tissue poking through.

One of the men who showed up, Ume was not familiar with. Regardless, she still gave him a nod to acknowledge his presence. Though Masako hung back, keeping solely to her role of watching Ume's back rather than taking part in fighting the spiders, Ume's Derghoshiin would periodically fire off to take out a spider that got too close to the back line. Her bow still remained in her hands but she had a feeling she'd want to conserve her ammunition. As Shinjiro recognized her the woman couldn't help a bit of a snort, she had of course recognized him rather quickly. "Yeah, we've met, Karagata Shinjiro." she retorted, grinning at him to intentionally flash her teeth as she remembered how the two had torn apart a member of her clan together. The rest of what they had done came as an afterthought, the shared violence stood out in her mind as she'd had to take from him a piece of the man's shiin.

Red mists, clones, strange transformations and spiders, the place was already chaos to the point that neither Ume nor Masako had noticed both had inhaled what Maido had spread through the area. And Maido's sudden appearance in front of her however caused her to raise her eyebrow and she could practically feel Masako tense up behind her. To Masako's credit, she didn't move to intervene and wouldn't unless Ume ordered it in this case. Maido's comment about 'liking her' made her grin yet again. "Good to know." she replied, firing another shot from her Derghoshiin tipped Temershiin tail at a spider behind Maido. "Akari Ume." she'd return the introduction and shake the woman's hand as well, nodding as it was mentioned that she was a medic.

Of course a moment later she realized Kotaru had joined them, and she was getting used to his looks of annoyance being directed at her again. For a brief moment her own guard lowered as she looked at him, realizing she wasn't sure the last time was she saw him with so many of his shiin manifested. "Wow." Though he seemed annoyed with her presence, she couldn't help a genuine smile as she looked at him, he looked impressive, almost beautiful even. It took her a moment to realize he'd asked her a question and immediately her smile vanished and she rolled her eyes. "Natsumi trained me as a medic remember? I'm just back up and-" she stopped as she caught sight of Maido's severe injuries and blinked a moment. "-healing." she finished, moving to Maido's side quickly. Her hands were already aglow with the tell-tale green chakra of Iijutsu, and she'd do her best to put her hands to Maido's wounds to heal what she could. 'Wonder if we can find her arm...' she thought to herself.

Masako followed at a distance, of course avoiding Kotaru's gaze.

~Bullet Spray
D-Ranked Ninutsu
Prerequisite: Derghoshiin or Dergoshiin combination
By focusing chakra on their shiin, the user is able release bits and pieces of the shiin, causing a kunai-like projectile to be launced by the shiin with strength and speed equal to the user's [Control]. While effective, much use can tire out the shiin, just as throwing a kunai with a single arm would overwork it.

*[Iijutsu • Mystical Palm]
A-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: 20 Iijutsu
One of the almighty and most highly coveted abilities of medical-nin, the *[Iijutsu • Mystical Palm] technique allows its users to heal wounds quickly and efficiently. After focusing chakra into his/her hands, the user will place them over the wound in question and begin to channel chakra through it. As the chakra interacts with the cells and tissues in the area, the wound will begin to regenerate and heal over until there's no remnant of it ever being there. Of course, this is not done in the blink of an eye. To heal small-to-moderate wounds, it takes very little time, while large wounds take one (1) post of concentration to mend, and mortal wounds take a total of two (2) posts to fully mend. This technique lasts for four (4) posts, but due to its chakra-extensive nature, users are not advised to treat multiple large wounds in a single use.

Maru had heard of this Kotaru. There was practically no one who hadn't at this point, a renowned prodigy. It seemed that he was familiar... intimately so with this other Akari, Ume, it seemed. Had he not met Sayuri, he likely wouldn't have understood the tone and the looks they gave each other. Now, he understood the preoccupation on Kotaru's face. And now, both as Honmaru Division Commander and the man who had earned Sayuri's love, he had no intention of losing his life here. Kotaru's worry was palpable, but there was likely a reason that Maido had requested this person. It seemed that they both outranked this woman, and while Maru didn't hold his position over anyone when it wasn't necessary, none of them could be truly compared to jounin anymore. They had reached a higher level of power. Still, that hardly meant she couldn't contribute. Just recently, a young genin (who was far more skilled than his rank implied) had joined him and Maido to claim Forest Country for Earth Country. She seemed even more skilled than Michi by no small margin. She would be fine, and as he observed the healing green chakra of iijutsu flowing from her hands, it was likely her presence was just as necessary as Maido had presumed it was when asking for her.

Breathing in the familiar red mist, the tinge of iron in his nostrils accompanied the feeling of adrenaline that rushed through his veins and chakra, familiar after only one previous exposure to the technique. He'd remembered the harness format with the four chain-like tendrils that had served him so well in the Forest Country. It quickly took that form and Maru tossed the shuriken to one of the tendrils. Weaving a series of hand seals repeatedly, four more of these shurikens (50 Strength, 1 Speed) popped up to either side of Maru, the other three tendrils quickly latching onto them and the fourth once again in Maru's hand. With five large stone shuriken in total, Maru noticed the dog-sized spiders beginning to collapse on Maido and Shinjiro from behind, their numbers making a flank from the creatures inevitable. Taking great care to avoid striking his teammates, Maru slowly advanced, throwing each of the shuriken individually (50 Strength, 50 Speed) using the four tendrils and his own physical strength to cleave through entire lines of the diminutive spiders. He was here to simply trim the edges, make sure they didn't become too much for the big guns of the party. These had likely just been hatched, perhaps even just a few days ago. They were about to meet some much bigger adolescent orb weavers and wolf spider matriarchs. Maru had faced them many times before. On their own, the lesser spiders were nothing to be concerned about, but their numbers were significant. And that wasn't even speaking of the matriarchs. A matriarch could serve as a challenge to any jounin. Things could get quite sticky quite fast, no pun intended, if they didn't proceed carefully.

Shinjiro grinned as he noticed Maido mimicking his partial transformations. His eyes closed as he focused his senses, feeling the vibrations of her movements, smelling the unique combination of blood and acid that he had grown so familiar with. And the two moved as one, flowing as if a dance. He knew Maido was pushing herself too hard, too early. But he loved her for it all the same. She was never one to show restraint. No matter the obstacle she would find a way to dig deeper and persevere. And if she did falter, he would be there. Despite having been apart for the last 6 months it was clear the two were still in harmony with one another. Having felt her inside of him so many times, he had learned to anticipate the slightest of her movements and she had gained the same ability with him.

Fighting alongside her in such a way, the young Jinchuuriki felt at peace, true to himself as he allowed his body to react instinctively, doing what it did best; kill everything in his way. His arms were drenched in blood and spattered chunks of spider flesh and every step he took resulted in a heavy squelch as he trampled over countless bodies, so many that it was impossible to discern. A river of blood and various spider bits. And yet he did not tire. His body was that of a perfect predator, an expert assassin, legendary swordsman and the host to the King of all Beasts. When it came to taijutsu there were only a scarce few that could even stand against him, man or creature it mattered little to him. Even touching him alone was a death sentence to most. Only Inhuman’s such as Maido could do so when his poisons were fully primed and coating his entire body.

At some point Shinjiro caught the arrival of one of Iwa’s Bannin, Kotaru. One of Maido’s lovers, or playthings. He wasn’t quite sure which, but he had never felt possessive of Maido and didn’t particularly care what she did when she was away from him. He only wished to stand together with her as an equal and provide his everlasting loyalty, no matter what form that would take. Ever shifting his angles and dashing around the battlefield he kept a keen awareness of the positions of his allies at nearly all times. And so, when Hisayo was impaled, he only snorted in amusement, shaking his head in disappointment. She was fast and had good instincts, but she was also the youngest and most inexperienced. When things got truly hectic it wasn’t uncommon for her to make small mistakes that could be costly. “Getting hurt already, Hisayo? The fun is only just getting started!” he teased. When Maido switched places with her clone he naturally tracked her new location next to Ume, keeping tabs on where the real her was, though clone or not she would be able to survive most injuries.

Shinjiro accepted the halberd that the Maido clone transformed into, testing its weight and reach. He wasn’t terribly proficient in such weapons but for simple hoards of spiders he wouldn’t have any trouble utilizing it. Though when the scarf joined him and split into tendrils Shinjiro truly felt pleased by this new development. He sheathed his swords to give him better range of movement and then began to pivot and spin, twirling the weapon around and lashing out in lightning-fast jabs to cut down enemies from all around as they were pulled into his killing range. And when an area was depleted he would be launched toward the next large grouping, using his wings to help guide him to more precise angles. Each time he landed to a new area he let out a slow exhalation of green poisonous gas, just enough to consume those in his immediate vicinity, causing the spiders to become lethargic and weak.

He glanced over to Maido again as he vaulted through the air, halberd outstretched behind him. She was still being reckless. But there was something he could do. ‘These beasts are weak, pitiful, strong only in their endless hoards. Show the true might of the King of Beasts’ Vorashu encouraged, feeling Shinjiro’s desire to draw on his power further. ‘Yes, it’s time’ Shinjiro replied simply. Green chakra enveloped his body, his hair growing into long thick braids that pushed his hood back, spilling down to his mid back as his arms extended by 6 inches. And then the chakra cloak tightened around his skin, the blackened coloration of his hands extending up his arms entirely. His hair curled inward around his face as a layer of green chakra obscured his features. In his third form now he could feel the knowledge of the animal kingdom flowing through him. He would create a creature deserving of Maido’s magnificence, inspired by her he allowed the feeling he associated her with to consume him. Closing his eyes he waved his hands around and conjured a large beast, starting with the body of an enormous huntsman spider, layered in a crabs carapace, its unique blood red hairs and translucent shell giving it an eerie and almost unnatural look. And lastly, the creatures head would consist of an entire Octopus, its long tentacles menacing but most importantly like Maido herself able to mimic a wide array of creatures, its color and patterns could shift as well as its behaviour. “A gift, for you Maido!” he called out. Perhaps he would be inspired to create monsters or more normal beastial companions for the others but for the time being he would wait to see what threats would emerge next. Surely these waves of relatively smaller spiders would soon come to an end. When would the real challenges begin? he wondered.

That was a good point Maido supposed. It would probably be better if she could find her arm. She spoke into her fuuinjutsu and in a blink, a clone appeared in front of Ume, holding Maido's severed arm. The clone released it, and held a seal to float it through the air towards Ume so that she may work better with it. The clone then turned, retreating back into the catacombs, darting past Hisayo, Ume and Kotaru to catch up to Maru and Shinjiro. Summoning a needle to its mouth, the Maido clone turned invisible, shooting a spider in front of Kotaru and Ume cleanly in the eye. Then as Shinjiro began to transform the Maido clone took her paces back. Stepping aside, she let the great beast take shape in the catacombs and begin to unleash hell on these terrible critters.

Then indeed, a terrible critter to Shinjiro began to conjure. Pulling from Vorashu's power, Hisayo turned to admire Shinjiro's prowess with a mixture of awe and glee. Suddenly, her expression changed quite sharply. What had been bewilderment was replaced with slight disgust, for this was easily the most horrifying looking creature that Hisayo had ever laid eyes on. However, the more she looked at it, the more it became clear. Man, it was efficient. Maido twitched. She admitted, this process never really got easier for her. Even with a fake body, Maido liked to feel things. She turned her nerves on, albeit just a bit so, and bit at her lip as Ume began to work with her arm. She watched Ume as she worked and listened to her, gazing into her bright blue eyes. "This is a cute one." She said softly while Ume worked. So softly, Hisayo was surprised she could hear it over the ruckus all around her. She darted back and forth, avoiding another descending spider, when suddenly a large explosion rocked her socks literally off of her body. Tumbling through the air in an uncontrolled somersault, Kayoko left Hisayo's hand and flew in Maru's direction. She began to channel chakra and shrunk herself down to be only a good meter long in length mid-flight, being a flaming sword and all. The Maido clone cursed under its breathe and performed a series of hand seals, causing Hisayo to come to an incredibly ungraceful and violent hault mid-air, before being rotated and pivoted upright and proper, then set down onto the Scion's back. The real Maido then took notice of the great thing Shinjiro had summoned and excitedly encouraged Ume's work then, eager to ride around on her new toy.

Meanwhile, the other Maido clone was examining the source of the explosion that had so easily rocked the room. Channeling, the Maido clone liquified itself into a mass of blood tendrils, shooting through the air and diving towards the Scion which Shinjiro had brought forth. Flexing into a cloak, she embedded her cores on the underside of the creatures carapace and her cloak began to wrap around it protectively. Now two times the armored tentacle nightmare, the hell spider of two dove into the hole from the explosion, taking on the colorations of the surrounding environment and blending in to the terrain. It was a good thing to, because as Maido began to descend, she began to pick up even more and more chakra sources. However, these were not spiders. As she extended closer, her new octopus head reached out and grabbed the nearest thing that moved, stabbing into it with its front claws repeatedly before stuffing it into its wonderous face hole. Separately from the Scion's senses, the Maido clone, Hisayo, and Kayoko looked around and suddenly became somewhat nervous and encouraged quickly for the others to join them.

Hisayo pulled out one of Maido's swords and braced for the worst. What she saw before her had to be just as crazy as what she was riding. No, no, her new ride was definitely crazier. These were just plentiful in size. Beginning on her left, going to her right, and even as she turned around, Hisayo found that they were now surrounded by something that somehow both resembled a Jaguar and a Falcon at the same time. "That's kinda cool looking." She said finally before being too stunned to speak. One of them suddenly blinked in front of her face and she recoiled, not expecting it to teleport so smoothly on top of her giant mount. Now taking in its features more clearly, she realized it was much bigger than she had originally thought, seeing up close that it was in fact an elephant-sized Jaguar with elephant-sized wings, that didn't appear to be made of anything solid. Appearing as ghastly, incorporeal black ghosts of creatures with glowing red eyes, these hell bat spirits were numerous and various in size. She swung at it, and her blade went straight through, poofing out to the other side and accomplishing absolutely nothing. "Well that's not good." She said, and the giant creature tackled her off of the Scion. Too then, many of these Hell Panthers shot out from their resting spots, growing to their various sizes, the smallest of which was an elephant but the largest of which was easily a whale. Each of them began to fly and blink about the room randomly, causing complete and utter chaos and confusion as they seemed to blink in and out of existence on a whim, whenever they felt like it, for no particular reason whatsoever.

And it hurt. Their attacks were unpredictable and sporadic. The Maido clone began to stress, worrying that they may be in over their head. That was so weird, she thought to herself. The creatures hadn't seemed that large when she sensed them. The Maido closed her eyes and immediately groaned. In her Mind's eye, the creatures were still barely human-sized, yet they certainly seemed larger when she opened her eyes again. Hisayo regained her footing and watched as another pack of them began to blink towards the others, fourteen of them flying around into the upper level and immediately possessing fourteen of the spider spirits there. They mutated, growing in size until they were easily eight meters tall a piece and they began to run towards Maru, Ume, Masako, Kotaru, Maido, Hisayo, and Kayoko collectively, blinking about the catacombs and now having wings.

Under any other circumstance, Kotaru would have been exceedlingly uncomfortable with Maido and Ume being so close and speaking with each other. He was certain neither of them knew about his history with the other. Why would they? Before now, his time with Maido and his time with Ume had never overlapped. But now wasn’t the time to dwell on the rei women in his life. As Ume did her best to heal and reattach Maido's arm, the bannin looked over to the white haired kunoichi with a look of disbelief. "These are practically hatchlings. Of course they get bigger." Around them, the frantic fighting continued and the cavern walls shook with the cacophony. He and Ume met gazes once more and he momentarily rested his hand atop her head. "Stay safe." Kotaru glanced at Maido and looked as if he wanted to say something, but instead he extended his wings, crouched, then took off vertically. After all, what could he say mid-fight to a woman who was practically immortal?

The spiders were troublesome but clearly it wasn't something this group couldn't handle. Between the eight of them who were already there fighting - Maido, her two companions, her three clones, Shinjiro and Maru - Kotaru silently questioned why he was summoned into the fray. The gathered team suffered a few blows - mostly to Maido and her equally reckless companions - but they seemed to be holding their own. Shinjiro in his huge transformation and Maru with his rocks did more than a decent job at slaughtering the spiders. A few got past them but Kotaru took care of them swiftly with his flaming tendrils. Eventually the spider hoarde was nearly completely culled, but a sudden explosion prevented the team from reveling in the success for even a moment.

Hovering a dozen meters in the air and ten meters behind Shinjiro and Maido's combined forms, Kotaru watched as new creatures tackled Hisayo from atop her mount. Immediately realizing this was a different type of danger, Kotaru channeled chakra to his throat and his lacrishiin engulfed his body in a pale blue armor from the neck down. He then flew into a long set of hand seals and focused on the fourteen spider-panther-bat spirits as they blinked and blipped around the cavern. The bannin dropped down, positioning himself between the monsters and the group of jounin. Kotaru inhaled deeply as he held the final seal, smoke seeping from the corners of his mouth, and then he exhaled a powerful jet of flames toward the creatures. The stream shot forward in a relatively thin line before expanding out and to the sides, creating a wall of scorching katon that stretched forty meters wide and tall.
JutsuShow
Advanced Formation: Lacrishiin
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
Pre-requisite: 20 Control, Iijutsu Concentration
Kotaru channels chakra to the shiin and causes the lacrishiin to inflate and form a psuedo-armor. With this technique, Kotaru enhances the cellular replication of the lacrishiin, allowing it to cover his temershiin and melashiin, if manifested. This form of his armor has strength equal to Kotaru’s strength.

Dragon's Breath [40 speed/strength]
A-Ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the necessary hand seals, Kotaru takes a deep breath and expels a large stream of flames from his mouth. The stream moves at speed up to [Control] and can hit with [Control] strength. It can reach up to 100 meters long, and is thin for up to 5 meters immediately in front of him before expanding up to 70 meters wide. Due to Kotaru’s impeccable chakra control, he can alter the size of the stream at creation and at any time thereafter. The stream can be maintained continuously for up to 7 posts so long as he holds the final seal; during this time, Kotaru can halt the flames and start them back up again at will.

Recognition
B-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Pre-Requisite: [Perception] Concentration
Humans are being of habits and patterns, this is no exception in combat, ranging from taijutsu to hand seals. Patterns already being easier to remember, the user has worked hard at actively committing whatever he sees to his short-term memory. This allows him to remember things such as the beginning wind up to a strike or a hand seal pattern after seeing it once, so that he can recognize the technique if used later in a battle. This gives him an advantage in anticipating his opponents next action and makes an opponent’s consecutive usage of a technique a liability.

Awareness
B-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: [Perception] Concentration
The user has learned to pay attention to their opponent's minuscule movements preceding an action and other things in the midst of a fight. The longer the fight goes on, the more details about the opponent will become noticed by the user.

Note: the last one isn't worded the best. The first tai is for repeated movements and the second is for noticing smaller movements that telegraph actions he hasn't seen yet.

Ume was more than a little shocked as Maido's arm was suddenly brought to her. She tried not to question it as she immediately set to using Chakra Stitching and Mystical Palm to start healing the wound. But almost immediately she realized that healing such a thing was going to take too long in such a setting. Her jacket was tied around her waist to keep it out of her way while fighting and the women quickly untied it from her waist and tore it into a couple of long strips to create a sling. "Don't undo this until she finishes with it." she told Maido sternly, pausing a moment as she heard the woman say something about 'cute'. She just shook her head in a moment of confusion, and didn't explain 'her', until she quickly formed seals for the summoning technique. Her hand touched the ground in front of her and a moment later a cute little creature was in front of her. She quickly picked up Kantai and placed her on Maido's back. "Kantai, stay here, cling if you must, I need you to heal her and regenerate this arm, got it?" she told her summon sternly.

Kantai just cooed sweetly before nuzzling into place as a glow of Iijutsu chakra came off the little creature.

Ume could finally turn her attention back to Kotaru just as he touched her head and she gave him a small smile. "Of course, nothing stupid today." she assured him. She wasn't here as an assassin today after all, her job today was just healing. However moments later Ume found herself staring down strange creatures. Blinking hard the woman wasn't sure what to do. She suddenly kicked off the ground into the air, focusing her attention at one of these panthers she decided to try one of her own jutsu as her eroshiin allowed her to glide down slowly, and the woman gathered up a tornado around one of the panthers before dropping to the ground fully so she didn't get sucked into herself.

Masako still remained to the back and out of the way.
Ume Jutsu UsedShow
*[Iijutsu • Chakra Stitching]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
When traditional stitching supplies aren't available, *[Iijutsu • Chakra Stitching] truly shines. After performing a short set of handseals, the user will gently place his/her index finger at the base of the patient's wound. Once this is done, the user will lift his/her finger and touch it to the other side of the wound, causing a visible 'stitch' of chakra to appear. This is repeated until the wound has been pulled together. Although precision is key, this technique can still be performed relatively quickly. Small to moderate wounds take very little time to stitch, while large wounds will take one (1) post of work to mend. This technique drains a minuscule amount of chakra from the person it is attached to in order to keep the stitches going, theoretically, ad-infinitum, and can be cancelled at any time by the user with a single handseal. Any intensive or strenuous movements will cause the stitches to break.

*Ninjutsu • Spiritualism Technique]
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
The base technique for summoning, the Spiritualism Technique allows users to bring forth their summons to fight on their behalf. Once an agreement has been made between the user and their summon, they will be able to use this technique to call upon it at any time unless stated otherwise. The chakra used for this technique varies, as it is dependent on the size and rank of what is being summoned. Once it has been summoned, the initial cost of the summon is equivalent to its rank. It is paid upon being summoned and then the same cost is paid as often as follows:
D-Rank: Free to maintain once summoned.
C-rank: 10 posts
B-rank: 9 Posts
A-rank: 7 Posts
S-rank: 5 posts

Little Lift
C-Ranked Maneuver Taijutsu
Type: Eroshiin
Requirement: ~Slow Fall
In this Maneuver the user flaps their Eroshiin wings to lift themselves from the ground temporarily. This lift can only reach a height of five meters and upon reaching the height they immediately begin descent unless another jutsu is used.

~Glide
B-Ranked Maneuver Taijutsu
Type: Eroshiin
Requirements: ~Feather Fall
Effectively the same as the prior technique, this allows the Akari to glide in all measure of the word. They are able to 'ride' the wind, gaining height through the use of the natural wind or [Fuuton] techniques.

*Fuuton • Tornado Trap
C-Ranked Fuuton Jutsu
The user will first perform the required hand seals and then gather wind around an opponent. This will form a tornado around them at [Control] Speed which extends 25m into the air and has a radius of 3m. The tornado will push back anything that touches it with [Control] Strength, while also cutting at whatever tries to push through as well as a kunai would with the same strength. This technique lasts for 4 posts.
Kantai Ability UsedShow
Kantai's nurturing nature manifests itself in the form of an aura of health and positive feelings that ease pain and promote well being, allowing her chakra to passively flow into anyone in contact with her. This results in Kantai being able to passively regenerate the wounds of anyone in direct contact with her, utilizing Kantai's control to determine the speed of the regeneration. This passive ability requires 5 chakra pool from Kantai permanently, but it requires nothing from the beneficiary of her regeneration aura. It must also be noted that Kantai herself does not benefit from this regeneration; only a target in contact with her will experience the effects of her aura.

Maru likely had more experience with spirits than those with him would likely assume. After his experience with Dokka, it wasn't hard to pick out how these spectral Hell Bats and Hell Panthers differed from the rest of the arachnid horde they supported. However, that experience did little for Maru, immediately realizing based on Hisayo's pitiful attempt to strike down one of the creatures with a sword that they were incorporeal. While Maru's arsenal lent itself to a wide variety of situations, his ability to counteract spirits was ironically quite lacking. Given that his freshly appointed duties as Honmaru Division Commander involved these very Catacombs, the incongruity of this scenario was so potent that it would be less embarrassing for Maru to trip on his own shoelaces.

Actually, lacking wasn't quite the right way to phrase it. What would be a better way? Oh. Practically non-existent. Yeah, that would be more accurate.

His eyes flitted over to their medic, immediately recognizing the danger of losing her. In order to reduce or prevent unnecessary losses, ensuring her protection was paramount. Her proficiency with Fuuton would certainly come in hand, given the element's effectiveness with large area of effect attacks, and given she was a medic, she likely had sizeable chakra reserves and excellent chakra control. However, she was already being forced to heal significant wounds. She also had the chakra necessary to maintain that summoned creature to consider, and she was also using offensive jutsu. He had to try and lessen the burden as much as he possibly could. If she ran out of chakra or took serious damage, this mission could very well wind up having a disastrous end.

In his mentally compromised state, he'd focused purely on training his body as a means to cope with the stress. He realized now that came at the neglect of his jutsu arsenal. If he survived this, that would be something he would quickly rectify. Repeatedly weaving a set of seals, Maru would thrust his hands into the ground and pull out four stones, each containing unstable Doton chakra. If this didn't work, he had little else he could do to these creatures. Watching the creatures that Kotaru targeted with his flames, it was clear that, as some of them were either struck or dodged and blinked around the cavern to avoid them, they could take damage from Katon techniques. Flooding each of the stones with additional neutral chakra, he would gauge where Kotaru's attacks were headed next and would throw his grenades full force at the creature's opposite side and slightly above in advance, detonating the grenades before Kotaru's attack. If his suspicion was correct, either the creatures would take damage either way or, at minimum, his attack could make the creature panic, giving Kotaru time to take them down.

Doton • Stone Grenade (x4)
D-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the necessary hand seals, Iwamaru plunges his hand into the ground and pulls out a small stone roughly 3 inches in diameter, filled with unstable Doton chakra. At the end of the post, or until it makes contact with an opponent or surface, the stone will explode with a Strength equal to Iwamaru's Control.

D-Rank Ninjutsu
After taking an explosive tag or another explosive item in his hand, including those produced from Iwamaru's jutsu, he channels unstable non-elemental chakra into the item. Entering The Catacombs

Post by Izanagi » Wed Mar 09, 2022 11:57 pm

Shinjiro’s eyes narrowed as he felt a strange presence. The spider hoard was quickly slaughtered through the combined efforts of the group of elite shinobi, and Maido and Hisayo seemed to be quite enjoying the monstrosity he had manifested for them. But it seemed the might of the challengers and perhaps his own spiritual energy and creation had spurned forth powerful hybrid creatures from the depths of the catacombs to come out and meet them. The young Bannin hummed in contemplation, twirling the cloned Maido spear that he wielded. “Looks like we’ll be able to have some fun after all” he decided, grinning at the new challenge. His green aura flowing around him and in the presence of such strong fighters he couldn’t help but feel his competitive nature surface, and in these moments he even enjoyed the challenge of new adversaries.

However, as he dashed toward the creatures and then was pulled by Maido’s tendrils, off-center of the charge so that he could strike form a better angle, he found that his slash simply passed right through the large phantom. His senses too seemed confused, unable to pinpoint their movements as he normally would. Perhaps a more precise tool for the job he considered and with a little extra surprise in case he still couldn’t find any vulnerabilities. Chanelling chakra he flowed his green chakra into his legendary arrow, imbuing it with a raiton charge.

Raiton • Galvanic Zone
B-Ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals, the user will seep Raiton chakra in an area around them with a 35 meter diameter. The user's Raiton will constrict and paralyze jutsu, objects and people who enter it. They will lose -3 Speed per post for 3 posts or until the user ends the jutsu.
Then with a low whistle the weapon would streak through the air, bursting out from its small sheath. The arrow would aim to strike where the creature’s heart should be, but still moving through the black intangible mass it would suddenly split, still moving at 50 speed as the second portion of the arrow emerged and jutted upwards toward the presumed brain of the phantom panther-bat. From there green lightning would surge from the first arrow, and as it did so Shinjiro would pass his Maido spear up to his spider arms and form a set of hand seals with his real hands, guiding the lightning toward its counterpart where it would link with the other weapon, forming an inseparable bond. Still whistling lowly he watched with interest as the crackling arc of green lightning glowed within the black mists that made up the creature's body.

But before his arrows could fully eviscerate the target with their linked lightning, the creature vanished teleporting away. Perhaps that meant he was close to damaging it, it had seemed to give it a brief pause and his predatory instinct told him the creature was panicked. Though there were many and some were quite large, teleporting around in random patterns made them difficult for the assassin to properly target, especially when it seemed their ‘vitals’ might not be in the traditional locations.

Raiton • Arc linking
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
After forming the necessary hand seals the user can link one of their existing sources of Raiton to a conductive surface or object within 30 meters of the chakra source. The arc moves at a Speed equal to [Control] and possesses its previously determined strength. This link will be maintained for 5 posts as long as the two points remain within 30 meters. If the distance is exceeded the link will be broken, though it will attempt to reconnect should they return within proximity within the allotted duration.
Still, changing angles sporadically with the assistance of Maido’s tendrils and his own wings, Shinjiro aimed to be every bit as unpredictable as the creatures he fought. He moved as a green blur, a cloaked demon, winged and with many deadly limbs. And the shrill call of his whistle seemed to almost lag behind his sheer speed, an echo of sorts as his lighting linked arrows acted like sewing needles, keeping within 30 meters of each other’s but darting in and out and methodically piercing and zig-zagging through each target, searching for weaknesses. Behind his veil of chakra Shinjiro’s eyes darted around the battlefield, tracking and assessing while his keen vibration sense relayed information back to him as well. It became clear that these creatures were using their and sporadic movements as a shield of sorts, an illusion or a intangible body manifested around their true self, it mattered not how they did it but the truth of the matter seemed apparent that their real bodies were much smaller, located somewhere within.

It was a worthwhile challenge and a good enough reason as any to hone his skills further. Shinjiro’s style was that of precision and speed, but even an assassin sometimes needed to be able to affect a large area and target multiple opponents or pin down a particularly troublesome foe. And this was one such occasion. A more explosive touch then. The stone man had a good idea it seemed and while his grenades were more physical in nature, Shinji would of course utilize the element he was in tuned with; ration. Flowing chakra into a kunai he waited until a target appeared near him, directing his arrows to sew through its upper body from the top down as he launched the kunai at the bottom half and promptly detonated it before the creature could teleport away, and as he had surmised the large scale shocking explosion caused the veil to drop, revealing a smaller, stunned creature which Shinjiro fell upon like a hawk to a mouse, granting Maido the kill in the form of her clone’s spear striking straight through the creature's body.

Raiton • Explosive Charge
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
By channeling Raiton chakra into any item, the user will turn it into a ticking time bomb. Either when 3 posts are up or when activated through the use of Chakra Kai, the object will explode, releasing all the Raiton chakra in it in a [Control] strength explosion and surging electricity, diffusing into its surroundings and applying its paralyzing effect.
Shinjiro stared down upon the creature as it squirmed and howled, black blood spurting from the wound through its chest. Injured and stunned by ration it seemed it was either unable or simply unwilling to teleport away. “Quite the tricky little pests” the man mused, as he formed another set of handseals. He had often heard about the technique known as Chidori, or thousand birds. It was one of the signature jutsu that had seen certain Konoha shinobi utilize during the war. For his own purposes it had seemed rather noisy and unbecoming of an assassin, especially when his own claws and precision strikes aided by poison were usually more than sufficient. However, it seemed there were some cases where it would be handy to be a little more thorough in completely ravishing and frying an opponents insides, especially with those annoying elemental bodies and their ability to hide their cores in typically non vital placements.

For such thoroughness he could afford to sacrifice a little subtlety. Fortunately, he had dabbled with the jutsu and learned the handseals, forming them without too much thought or difficulty as the green lightning gathered in his hand, sparking and jolting as the signature sound filled the cavern. His arrows embedded themselves in the rocky ceiling for the moment as it would be difficult to control them precisely as the sound drowned out his own whistles, though it did give him the idea to practice utilizing such chirps in coordination with his arrows. His lower spider legs pinned the creature in addition to the spear held by the upper arms and then he drove the Chidori straight down into the panter spirits head, sending surges of lightning down its neck and into its chest as he withdrew his own legs and the spear so as to not affect himself.

*Raiton • Thousand Birds
B-Ranked Ninjutsu
The user of this technique will gather a concentrated amount of Raiton in their hand after they perform the hand seals for this technique. The lightning causes a sound similar to thousands of birds chirping over the top of each other while it is in existence. The user will then dash at full speed toward a target and attempt to thrust their hand into their target's body using their strength and momentum. The lightning then jumps from the user's arm into the opponent's body where it ravages the insides with a [Control] Strength surge of Raiton chakra.
As he dealt the killing blow to the one that had been about the size of an elephant he suddenly sensed movement behind him as one of the whale-sized creatures blinked into existence immediately behind him, actually managing to strike him in the back. His black turtle shell armor protected him from any damage though he was sent hurtling through the air, flipping and turning as his wings flared outward and rejected his forward momentum with a single powerful flap. If one could see Shinjiro’s face beneath the twisting braids of hair and the dense cloak of green chakra, one would know that their death was quite imminent.

Unlike Maido and her companions he actively avoided recklessness, having experienced a few close calls to death over the years. Instead, his pride came from being able to defend himself and strike down his enemies swiftly before they ever even laid a hand on him. If the creature was an ordinary organic they would find themselves affected by the poisonous hairs that coated his body. It wouldn’t be an immediate effect but paralysis would come. However, given the spiritual and incorporeal aspect of these creatures he couldn’t be certain they would be affected and he didn’t intend to leave it to chance. There was no way he was going to wait around and allow this being to live any longer than it deserved. ‘Return its corpse to the earth’ Vorashu encouraged, seething. The Genma’s chakra already flooded Shinjiro’s body, empowering him, further aided by Maido’s mists. He could feel Vorashu’s primal fury and unrestrained power through his veins.

He wanted nothing more than to rip the creature apart with his bare hands, but he had found what worked when dealing with this spirit’s and he needed only increase the scale of his techniques. Starting with the handseals for the Chidori, he gathered the potent chaotic lightning chakra again, taking on a green hue as did any of his ninjutsu tainted by Vorashu. And then he extended the arcs of lightning around his entire body, but not as a simple shroud or armor. No, he needed range, to strike throughout the creature’s entire body at once. And so he would, 120 meters in diameter, the lightning would surge and crackle all around him, treating Maido as an extension of himself giving his direct contact, and instead lashing out at anything else in the radius. Fortunately, he had been deeper into the cavern than any of the others as he chased the creatures down, and this whale sized phantom monster would be alone in receiving his wrath. Lightning ripped throughout the entire body, false or not, as Shinji dashed through it, starting at the head and moving all the way down toward its tail in an instant. The green glow lightning ripped through the black smoky substance, dispersing the creatures false body and leaving its true form in a smoldering heap. Only then did Shinjiro scale back the technique to a more reasonable 30 meter radius and he would reduce it further if needed to avoid friendly fire but for the time being he was sure others would give him a wide birth.

Entering The Catacombs

The first few of the hideous phantom creatures were quite unphased by the flames Kotaru spewed at them. Rather, they began to intentionally dive bomb directly into it and became engulfed in the flames, screeching in a fashion that quickly became apparent to be...laughter. Now on fire, the specters swooped down upon Kotaru, three of them sending ghastly fire-shaped talons upon him, scratching and dive bombing towards him at great speed. Wings erupted from their backs, two pairs each, made of their own ghastly visage and flames.

A well timed fuuton technique from Ume did displace several of the hellbats, yet the tornado began to suck in the flames of two of the hellbats that had yet to make it to Kotaru, drawing them into the tornado and engorging them with chakra, fueling the flames with fuuton and causing them to grow larger before Ume's very eyes. Now easily twenty meters tall, these two giant hellbats flew towards Ume at a frightening speed, causing massive flames to spew outwards in every direction in their wake for several paces. Another hellbat

One group of hellbats specifically seemed to have it out particularly for Maru, as no sooner had his grenades began to take flight than six of them blinked in front of them and four of them swallowed them, breaking formation from the rest of the flight. Before Maru's gaze, the stones sank into the hellbats stomach and exploded, causing the hellbats to vomit a series of shrapnel clouds of spiked stones towards Maru as they flew above him. The other two that had accompanied them then swallowed bits of this rained down shrapnel, before becoming much more solid in appearance and falling heavily to the ground with a loud thud that shook the catacombs tremendously before they began to run towards towards Maru under the canopy of the shrapnel above.

Shinjiro dealt quite marvelously with a plethora of the hellbats, yet some of them did teleport out and about sporadically and give him some trouble, wasting his stamina. Too, two of them became engulfed in Kotaru's flames, now spewing fire at Shinjiro and Maido from either side. Still, two of the hellbats that Shinjiro had speared with his lightning rather seemed to enjoy it, immediately taking the electricity into their mouths intentionally and becoming much larger, and extraordinarily faster, one of them diving straight past Shinjiro at a speed even he could barely follow due to its sporadic blinking. It blinked past him and made its way in a dive bomb directly towards Masako, opening its newly formed lightning wings wide, which notably did not slow its speed whatsoever, instead causing large surges of electricity to begin to fill the catacombs around itself, shooting lightning blasts backwards at not only Shinjiro and Maido, but in just about every other imaginable direction as well.

Ume quickly cancelled her fuuton technique if she could, staring on in horror at what was going on, lost in the moment though thankfully someone else had an eye out for her. More concerned for Ume than herself Masako dove at the other woman and grabbed at her shoulders, taking both herself and Ume down into a roll and away from the creature that dove at Masako herself. In truth, the avoidance had been sheer dumb luck, her real concern had been Ume. She had recently watched the woman nearly die by disembowelment, she wasn't about to risk anything happening to her. Not again, and sure as hell not under her watch. "That's it!" Masako snarled at her, shaking her head vigorously. "You're here as a medic, these guys need something else, you aren't strong enough for this yet, Ume." She had to keep from looking for Kotaru to get his agreement on what she was about to say. "You're done, leave Kantai for support until she unsummons herself, we're out."

Ume turned to argue, glaring daggers at the other woman, which didn't give Masako much time to think as she quickly remembered Ume's bladed wings and what she could do with them. All it took was one quick, short punch to the other woman's head. Ume wouldn't get to fall, but Masako would throw her over a shoulder and immediately turn the direction they had come to exit as quickly as possible.

She didn't care how angry Ume got later, or how angry Kota would probably be as well. She wasn't about to watch the woman come anywhere near death again so short a time after a close call.

Entering The Catacombs

Kotaru may have been busy with the creatures in front of him, but he wasn't so distracted that he couldn't take notice of what was going on around him. Maido wasn't much of a concern despite her injury, and the monstrous Shinjiro seemed to be actually enjoying himself. His amused smirk was lost behind the jet of flames shooting from his mouth. Around him the oversized creatures scattered, nearly a dozen of them now in flames. Things were getting dicey, and the thought crossed his mind that this was no place for Ume. She was strong for a jounin, but this area in the depths of the Catacombs demanded combatants at the level of bannin. But before he could even voice the thought, he heard Masako yelling behind him.

Still trying to provide cover, Kotaru halted the flow of the jutsu to temporarily extinguish the flames. His eyes moved rapidly, following the movements of the creatures as they shrieked and burned and lunged at him. Interestingly they seemed to barely falter, instead using their newly flaming body as burning bombs. Not only that, but two of them actually grew in size. He had to twist and dodge, flip and slide almost wildly to avoid the creatures.

Others however, the ones that weren't engulfed in flames, dipped and darted in midair. One of them, twice the size a giraffe, dive bombed him and forced him to dodge in a cartwheel using his shiin. Still holding the final seal of his technique, he turned in time to see Masako knock Ume unconscious and flee. The man clicked his teeth, smoke seeping from the sides of his mouth, and he thought to himself that the woman was useful for once. As they started to make their escape Kotaru took to the air, and he once again exhaled a river of flames and swept it through the air, preventing any of the creatures from following them out. The man dived and danced and cartwheeled through the air in order to avoid the lightning that exploded around them, and also to distract the creatures long enough for the two kunoichi to escape.

When the two women were out of sight and presumably safe, the Akari again stifled the flames while holding the final seal and dashed towards one of the largest of the creatures. It flickered, reappearing above him, and for a moment his eyes narrowed as it opened its mouth and bared down on him as if swallow him whole. But with a smirk Kotaru exhaled, burning the beast from the inside out. It screeched wretchedly and squirmed in midair as its incorporeal body was incinerated, and its much smaller true form was sent veering to the left and crashed into a pillar of rock with a sickening crunch. Kotaru's eyes narrowed in realization the second he had before the next creature attacked. The bannin flew upward at blinding speed to avoid the snap of the beast's jaw, but the creature pivoted and managed to slam its tail into the man's chest. He was knocked off balance, but like a cat he twisted midair and spread his eight tendrils out like a fan, leaving a long trail of scarred earth as they scraped the ground until he came to a stop.

The remaining chimera-like creatures that were still on fire once again converged on the bannin, flying straight down from above. There were at least a dozen of them cackling as they picked up speed, and trailing them was the larger creature that had managed to strike him. He stared straight up and let them get dangerously close before opening his mouth and spitting forth flames, these spreading over an area even wider than before. The fire stretched high above him and spread until it was seventy meters in all directions, enough to catch them all in his version of hellfire. Their laughter morphed into squeals of pain as, this time, the fire seemed to strip away their incorporeal forms and began to turn their bodies practically into coal. Their corpses, still in flames, crashed one by one around the bannin and were finally still.

Not knowing what became of Maru - and frankly, not caring - Kotaru turned his attention to the remaining beasts. He and Shinjiro had thinned their numbers quite a bit, but there were still many left to kill. The bannin took to the air once more, taking down one after the other with his katon, which for now was enough to incinerate both their false and true bodies. All the while, he gave Shinjiro a wide berth as he felled some of the largest creatures on his own.

Entering The Catacombs

Post by Izanagi » Sun Jun 12, 2022 12:22 pm

The battle was quickly becoming quite chaotic, fire and green lightning illuminated the expansive cavern. The sounds of crackling electricity and the growing heat and stagnant, thinning air, made for quite the scene. But even as several of the hell bats seemed to absorb the elemental affinities and grow stronger, others still were felled between Shinjiro and Kotaru. It filled the young assassin with vigor, his own bloodlust fueled, and his limitations forgotten. When one fought in the Zantou style, the conditions around oneself mattered little and one’s own fatigue was an afterthought. While his chakra had certainly begun to dwindle, his body, his physical stamina would last out enough to keep fighting as long as his body held intact. Though afterward when he would be quite useless for a while until he rested fully.

As lightning and fire careened towards him from multiple directions and in large swaths, Shinjiro thought quickly. Diving deep into the ancestral memory of countless animal species that Vorashu had created he reached within the Genma for insight. ‘Help me’ he pleaded, in a moment of vulnerability. For all of his pride and stubbornness, this was not the time to be at odds with Vorashu. They each needed to be at their best and fight as one if they were to survive the night. A low growl echoed within his mind, ‘Very well’ the old shaman agreed. The Phantom beast’s own bloodlust had been awakened, and in this purpose Genma and Jinchuuriki alike felt truly at one. Neither would allow themselves to be defeated or forced into retreat. Especially not while Maido remained.

Flapping his wings as he spiraled through the air and was maneuvered by tendrils of Maido’s blood, Shinjio’s body began to grow slick. But not with sweat or blood, but rather a protective slime. The thick viscous substance was derived from a particularly hardy species of slug that had adapted to thrive in the age of shinobi. This slime would mitigate the effects of both electricity and fire, granting him significant protection against the elements. As one jet of fire came within a few feet of him, he found he hardly even felt the heat of it and even his own shroud of lightning he observed no longer made his skin tingle with its pulsating energy. As he moved about, focusing on evasion and taking a moment to reconsider his chakra use, Shinjiro noted the others retreating, the pair of women and the stone man. Though he noted Kotaru was particularly impressive and covered their exit admirably. He would be a valuable asset in working alongside Maido, her cousins, and himself as they fought to dispatch the rest of these creatures.

This technique allows Shinjiro to rapidly produce slime across his body, making it much more difficult to grab him without impeding his own gripping ability. Furthermore, the thick layer of slime is able to resist against burning, shocking, and the effects of acid, protecting the user against such effects as long as the users Strength is greater than the Strength of the technique.

In his 3rd form, finally feeling in complete harmony with Vorashu and in control, Shinjiro decided to continue to push his newfound powers further. The creation he had made for Maido had been the first of such power and he would attempt to replicate the success with a creature for Kotaru; one inspired by the very monsters they fought against. Canceling his raiton techniques, he recalled the arrow Malevolence to its sheath as it joined back into one. He would need to conserve his chakra somewhat and be able to gather his focus on his Kaerujutsu techniques if he were to create more creatures of a similar power to the Scion he had conjured for Maido.

Perhaps something smaller, more agile. Something resembling the hellbats they fought but distinct enough that Kotaru could easily discern it as an ally meant for him. He started with the base concept; a panther’s body, wisps of green chakra coalescing around an area a dozen meters away from him, as he swung his blades at one of the raiton coated beasts, feeling a slight tingle as the electricity discharged over him before the beast teleported away. When it appeared again, he noted the lightning around it had diminished somewhat. It seemed likely the enhancements they had received were not permanent, rather using the energy they stored and gaining their attributes until used up.

However, as it came again it managed to rip off one of his spider’s arms before he countered with a precision skewer with his blade Agony, causing a shriek of pain as the wounded creature teleported away once more. Having a moment of reprieve, he continued in the formation of the creature, giving wings, though that of a hawk and then a reptile tail with a venom tip. He was sure Kotaru would benefit from a swift creature that could weaken the minds of those it struck. Attempting to replicate the ability to grow and shrink again at will however was much more difficult and he wasn’t quite sure if it would hold up, but he would make his best effort. If nothing else, it seemed more fitting for the creature to be on the smaller end of the spectrum. Large enough to ride but small enough to remain agile and be able to navigate through tight spaces.

Shinjiro would call out to the others, “Kotaru, this one is for you!” he said, gesturing to the newly formed creature as it took to the sky and moved to assist the young Bannin. Then, spinning the Maido-clone spear around his body Shinjiro repelled one of the creatures while his tail lashed out to attempt to grab it so that he could finish it off with his swords. However, it blinked past him and spat forth a torrent of flames. His wings wrapped around his body defensively, before flapping backward, repelling the flames and fanning them, though the hellbat seemed unphased, swallowing the flames up once more before biting and scratching at his wings and shredding one of them apart. “Little bastard” he grumbled, as his other bat-like wing grabbed the beast and pulled it overhead where he stabbed it with both of his enchanted katana, succumbing it to unparalleled fear and agony as it bled and shrieked.
