[Jousai Recruitment] Stones to Boulders

Post by Niro » Tue Mar 21, 2023 12:22 pm

Kinomichi was...perplexed by his most recent orders. They had come from Tatsuo not as the Tsuchikage but as the Jousai Commander.

Open recruitment and training for those who do show up.

Michi was used to going off to foreign countries and conquering them through diplomacy or force. Training a bunch of brats? Not his usual style. He'd have to make sure he didn't use too much force with them and treat them like porcelain dolls. The last thing he wanted was for some kid to catch a heel to the jaw and have to literally pick it up off the floor before going to the hospital.

His morning had been filled with collecting a large stack of fliers from the administration area of the Jousai Headquarters before having to plaster them around the village proper. Michi's scales and eyes were no longer a strange sight for the villagers after the years but the sight of him putting up fliers like a teenager? That was strange. By the time noon came around, the task was complete and nearly every street in the village had multiple copies of the flier plastered on it. They all said the same thing.

'Any and all interest in Jousai, come to Training Ground 5 by 2 PM.'

Michi had made straight for the training ground once he was done and was pleased to find it cleaned up by the previous group. A small pond of crystal clear yet freezing water was off to side and a single tree near the back of the area was calling his name. Several training dummies littered the area but besides that, it was empty. The Bannin quickly perched himself half way up the tree against its trunk and a thicker branch while watching the entrance of the area to see who would show up.

[Jousai Recruitment] Stones to Boulders

Post by Kabu » Tue Mar 21, 2023 12:52 pm

Maho had been out shopping with her mother, the pair making one more pass through the market district on their way home when she had spotted a flyer. She had heard of Jousai, she knew even that one of its founders was the Tsuchikage itself. There was no way that she could pass up an opportunity like this, it could only serve as a way to help her to get stronger and work towards fulfilling her dreams as well as protecting the village. Her mother of course was a bit worried but nonetheless wasn't nearly about to stop her.
That had been about an hour ago, upon returning home she had finished up her chores as quickly as possible and dashed out the door after grabbing her stuff. Now she was on her way towards the meeting place, not even caring about some of the looks she was getting as she sped through the village. Those who knew her couldn't help a chuckle as she passed by, knowing it must be important if the little girl wasn't even stopping for so much as a wave

Soon enough she arrived, skidding to a stop and taking a quick look around, tilting her head in confusion as she saw nobody else around. Had she arrived early or perhaps she was simply the first one there? She couldn't imagine that she was the only one who had seen those flyers and expressed any interest.

Oh well, for now she decided to wait and started stretching, keeping a watchful eye out all the while. There was no telling what this meeting would really be like but she did have a feeling that they would have to be ready for anything.

[Jousai Recruitment] Stones to Boulders

Post by Sia » Tue Mar 21, 2023 2:28 pm

The massively strong genin saw the fliers and thought on it for a while. Was she interested in Jousai? She had heard such wonderful things about it from the others. Rumors of great conquests spearheaded by Jousai and Kintsugi in tandem with each other. She wondered whether the rumors were true. Had Iwagakure gotten involved with outsiders to further the great expansion? She supposed she would find out in due time. She stood there for a moment an read over the flier again, considering her options carefully. It might be good to get involved with something new and branch out from her usual types of missions. She knew she was capable of much more than the little dinky foofoo crap missions she'd been going on, she was very capable for a genin, her strength dwarfed that of most Jounins and she knew it.

Yukari, Rei made her way towards the designated training grounds with Ku embedded in her skull, overtaking her right eye with its own purple one. When she arrived, her eyes instinctually began scanning the area for signs of life, and found Maho immediately, and then Michi secondly, hiding in a tree in plain sight. "Hmm." She thought to herself. The villages newest bannin was here, she had never actually met him that she could recall but she knew of him, everyone knew of the bannin after all, unless they were incredibly, horribly ignorant. She gave Michi a little wave once she was certain Maho wasn't looking at her, then approached Maho. "Hi there! I'm Yukari, Rei! I suppose you saw the fliers as well?" She began, then gestured towards the training dummies. "Care for a little practice spar while we wait?" She said softly. Rei was eager to stretch her legs.

[Jousai Recruitment] Stones to Boulders

Life as a shinobi was quickly growing hectic for Kotori. Quite aside from being selected so suddenly as a Jinchuuriki which had itself transformed her life beyond anything she could've imagined, she'd also recently found her way into a team of her fellow ninja, had a run-in with Amaya and her organisation, discovered the Fusekago Butai with her new friend Hiroko, and now here she was following yet another lead. No one could ever accuse her of laziness. Laziness didn't suit her. She was the sort of girl who ran headlong into new challenges and thought about the consequences afterwards; and here was another challenge. Jousai. The name had a nice ring to it. She'd heard about the group, perhaps even met one or two of them in passing, but was hardly an expert on what they did.

And so it was with some curiosity that she arrived at Training Ground 5 in the early afternoon. She paused and stretched, yawning—she'd already been running delivery missions around the village since the early hours of the morning—while examining the pair of unfamiliar ninja who'd arrived ahead of her. Presumably ninja, anyway; the first looked like a child, young and short, but seemingly preparing herself for some exercise in the field. The other person was older than herself, pale, with something strange about her face. Kotori felt uneasy looking at her.

Kotori began to warm up as well, finishing her stretches and running a few sprints across the field to get her blood pumping. It seemed like the other two ninja had paired off together, so for now Kotori would wait and see if anyone else turned up that she could partner up with. Perhaps a little spar with whoever arrived would help prepare them both for whatever Jousai had planned.

[Jousai Recruitment] Stones to Boulders

Post by hobnob » Sun Mar 26, 2023 1:09 pm

It has been a rather lazy day for Kurai. He has been wondering the streets of Iwa since he had woken up and mustered up the energy to actually get out of bed. Staying in bed was not his thing, even if he had nothing productive planned. So far he had been to the market, back the the compound, a cafe, strolled passed the Tsuchikages place, back to the compound, and back to the market place. He was extremely bored. Eventually, he had managed to keep paying attention to his surroundings to notice a flyer advertising something called ‘Jousai’. He had no clue what it was, although he did remember hearing someone mention the name back in the compound.

With the information of the location and time of the meeting place stored safely in his kind, he checked the time and began making his way over to Training area 5, he was close to the time specified but if he went directly there he would make it, no problem. He set off.

A few minutes later he had entered the arena, and in the distance he saw a few figures. Some seemed to be doing a little bit of fighting. There was another one, a girl who seemed not to be doing a lot. He approached casually with a gentle smile on his face. ’Hi.’ he said towards the group, and wondered whether this was just some sort of a prank as he did not see anyone of authority in the area.

[Jousai Recruitment] Stones to Boulders

Post by Niro » Sat Apr 08, 2023 2:19 pm

Kotetsu's morning was his usual routine. Wake up, take a shower, work in the forge for a little before, shower, and then get on with his day proper. The new addition to his routine? Cleaning, oiling, and maintaining the newly designed and attached metallic limb. It had replaced his right arm after it had suffered serious wounds during a fight outside of the village and he wasn't able to receive proper medical attention in time. The process of being fit for and having it attached to his body was quick yet painful. Kotetsu vividly remembered the pain of it being attached to his nerves before shaking the thought from his head.

Now, he was to the market to grab groceries. Well, he had been. The flier haphazardously plastered against a light pole grabbed his attention. Jousai, huh? He had heard of the organization; most everyone within the village had at this point. The group famously put together by the team of bannin and the Tsuchikage, Team 18. Membership was usually selective so it was a rare opportunity for them to be holding open auditions. Rather than waste it, Kotetsu put groceries on the back burner and made his way to the training ground specified in the flier.

Kotetsu arrived just as Kotori finished up her sprints and was quick to pick her out of the small crowd of young shinobi who had gathered. He made his way closer to her as he waved his mental hand up high to get her attention, the sun light shining off of the reflective surface.

"I saw the flier and was regretting you and Setsuna beforehand but it looks like I didn't need to worry!" He called to her before turning to the raven haired youth who had said something too soft for him to hear. "Hi, I'm Kotetsu. What's your name?"

Michi, meanwhile, was enjoying a light nap in the tree as the genin congregated below. Finally enough of them had filled into the area to make it worthwhile. The bannin got up from the branch and stepped into the open space to fall on his feet to the ground below with a heavy thud. A small cloud of dust kicked up from the impact and obscured his form before it finally settled and his own lime green, goat-like eyes swept over the attendees. Two other Fukusha, huh. Well, this could be promising.

"I imagine you're all here for the recruitment?" Michi started as he stretched his arms out over his head to relieve the stiffness from sleeping in a tree. "Perfect. I'd like to see a little bit of what everyone can do so I can make appropriate division recommendations. Feel free to start or, if you have a question, ask it.

Kotori slowed to a halt as a younger boy approached, and looked him up and down quickly before returning his greeting with a nod. "Hey. I'm Kotori, who're you?" He seemed to be a few years her junior, and was both smaller and thinner than she, but seemed like an average kid for all that. If he was here, though, perhaps he held some potential. "So, you think you got what it takes to join these Jousai guys, huh?" She returned his smile before being distracted by a second figure making his way over towards them. This one, she recognised immediately.

"Oi, Kotetsu!" she turned and ran a few steps to greet him, and gave him a welcoming tap, like a high-five, on his new metallic shoulder. Gently, of course, seeing as the limb was new. Better this than to show her concern for the boy after what he'd been through; he didn't need to deal with her sympathy or pity. Never him. "Damn, that still looks badass. How's it workin' for you? Maybe I should get me one, too. Maybe some extra legs; with four feet maybe I could keep up with Setsuna..." She winked at him, but her joking was interrupted by a calling voice from a figure that suddenly appeared in the middle of the field. Had he been there all along? No matter.

She listened and cocked her head at his short announcement, surprised that he was just leaving the training up to them. Perhaps he was looking for initiative as well as actual ability. She could work with that.

"Well, since the three of us are here, why don't we spar a little? One versus one versus one?" She hesitated, realising that perhaps this would just be the first of many challenges in the day ahead, and continued more cautiously. "Once you go down and stay down, you're out, until only one of us is still standing. But don't leave yourself too tired to do anything else this guy wants of us after, right? No point being the hero now if you're too tired or beat-up to stick around afterwards." She met each of their eyes and nodded. Despite her own words, she had no intention of going down too easily.

Assuming they both agreed, and had no questions or problems with the little spar, she'd back off until she was a good ten meters away from the other two, waving at the others to do the same so the three of them would begin at three points of a triangle, all facing inwards to the others. She tensed, eyeing both opponents, then shouted.

"Go!"

Ever since returning from her first eventful mission with her team, Setsuna was even quieter and more glum than usual. She fell into the habit of wearing her full mission uniform whenever she left her home. Better to be prepared than to be caught off guard; she’d learned that the hard way. “Setsuna, are you listening?”

The girl’s head snapped up to meet her mother’s concerned eyes. The woman looked nearly identical to Setsuna save for her hair, which was a deep turquoise color rather than fiery red. Setsuna shook her head, and the woman responded with a weary sigh and gestured to a flier that was adhered to a wooden post. “Jousai is recruiting. Think of how pleased your father would be if you joined their ranks at your age.”

She didn’t argue with her mother. She never did. When it came to her career as a shinobi, her parents had always been the ones to push her in one direction or another. After scanning the flier she bowed at the waist, obediently, and then ran off in the direction of the training grounds.

It seemed she was a little late to the party. When she arrived there was already a group gathered: a tall, heavily bandaged man she could only assume was the Jousai recruiter, and three kids roughly her age. In fact, there were two familiar faces in the crew. Setsuna didn’t know whether to be relieved or nervous. She had barely seen her teammates since they returned to the village, and she could barely look Kotetsu in the eye. But she put on a brave face - or rather, her usual bored countenance - and approached the recruits.

Catching the tail end of Kotori’s spiel, the redhead drew her short sword, Ayame. Just after the younger girl shouted at the others to begin, Setsuna made herself known. “Eager as always, huh, Kotori?” she called out when she was about ten meters away from them. “How about two against two instead?” Without waiting for a response, she relaxed her body just for a moment, and then rushed forward toward Kotori with her weapon ready. Setsuna slashed her sword downward and diagonally, aiming for the girl’s left knee.

This Stance allows the practitioner to more easily read opponent's attacks and defend against them by evading in unusual ways, such as ducking, bending around, and quickly sidestepping attacks without needlessly exposing themselves to additional attacks. This fleet-footed Stance lets the practitioner mix up their movements to confuse and misdirect the opponent, allowing them to attack lesser-known openings in the opponent's guard. It also allows the practitioner to rapidly and reflexively change the angle, position and grip of their weapon with minimal movement, allowing them multiple manners in which they can attack the opponent or defend against attacks.

Slowly but surely people began to file into the area and to nobody's surprise, they were all older than her... the man in charge even being a Bannin from her own clan. Frankly Maho was in awe and just a little bit nervous but nonetheless she would show that she was plenty capable even in spite of her age. More importantly she was fairly curious about everyone that had gathered, though it seemed any real formal introductions would need to wait, well for the most part. Small groups had begun to form and she couldn't really figure out how she was supposed to butt in or if it was even really appropriate. They all seemed friendly enough from what she could see but for once in her life she found herself feeling a bit unsure if her presence would be at all appreciated.

Luckily she wouldn't have to worry about that a great deal as she herself had been approached by a much older girl. One whom was likely a great deal stronger than herself. "Oh hi! I'm Fukusha, Maho!" she cheerily introduced herself. "Sure, let's spar. I'm not that strong yet but I'm always ready for a challenge!" she cheerily accepted the offer of a spar with little hesitation, though she couldn't fully hide any nerves that she felt.

One thing was true though... She really was always ready for a challenge.

Kurai nodded towards the girl. Even though he was not sure where he did have what it takes. For now he would just hang back, see what this place was all about. There were a few faces he had never seen before, and there were a few that he had, like the fellow Fukusha. It was nice to see a member of his clan, and he was interested in seeing what she could do. With all that, Kurai placed his hands in his pockets and awaited further instructions.

Satisfied they had all listened to him, Michi planned to use whatever each of them showed up to recommend divisions within Jousai for each of them if they passed his standard. Watching with his arms crossed, Michi was ready to intervene if needed in one of the fights if someone went overboard.

Kotetsu smiled wide while Kotori geeked out o er the metallic prosthetic arm he had developed and created after their return to the village from a brutal mission where he had lost his actual arm protecting his two team mates, Kotori and Setsuna. He let out a snort of laughter at her suggestion to catch up to Setsunas speed.

"We gotta work on our sprints, we'll catch up to her eventually. Oh! Speak of the devil!" Kotetsu caught sight of the red head approaching as Kotori explained the 1v1v1 rules. The dark haired boy also standing with them put his hands in his pockets as if he wasn't interested in participating. Rather than force the boy to be involved, Kotetsu sprinted after Setsuna and Kotori with the intent to slide into and trip them both up.

Kotori grinned back at Kotetsu, and at Setsuna as she arrived moments before the spar began. Much like herself, Setsuna wasted no time before jumping in to the fray. Kotori ran to meet her as she approached, then danced back a step at the last moment in an attempt to outrange the slash to her knee. Then she darted back in, trying to seize hold of Setsuna's sword-arm an begin a grapple, only to be toppled to the ground herself as Kotetsu appeared from nowhere and swept her legs away from beneath her.

She failed to contain a laugh as she hit the ground and rolled onto her back. She probably looked stupid, being floored so easily. Scrappy as she was, however, she had more tricks up her sleeve than simple grabs and punches. She wriggled away on her back while performing some simple hand seals, hoping that Kotetsu and Setsuna were equally occupied in the brawl. While scrambling back to her feet she stamped one heel down into the ground, simultaneously standing up and sending a pulse of chakra into the field which gathered around Kotetsu. A moment later it would burst upwards in an attempt to snare the boy's feet.

Still grinning, Kotori flashed a glance at the other boy in their little group. He hadn't introduced himself and didn't seem enthused about the spar, but how else was he going to show his worth to Jousai?
"Hey!" She shouted across at him, "Are you in or out?!"

[Jousai Recruitment] Stones to Boulders

Sensing that she was being ignored Maho frowned, taking a quick look around at her surroundings. What was a girl supposed to do when she was being ignored and everyone else appeared to be otherwise occupied. In the past she may have simply given up and gone home but she had become a good deal more bold and even stubborn of late. With that in mind she pushed down any nervousness she felt and looked over towards the other group that had been gathered and currently seemed to be in the midst of a spar. Was it something she could interrupt? Something that she could become a part of?

"No, now's no time to be shy. We could be working together in the future after all." she spoke quietly to herself, clenching her hands into tiny fists. For a brief moment she hesitated but not wanting to be left out and wanting a chance to actually prove herself to her, admittedly older and likely more experienced, peers she ran over towards the group. Honestly being part of a larger group seemed much more fun than a one on one, if they would take her.

"Hey! Got room for one more? " she called out as she got closer, tilting her head in confusion as she noticed the boy, a Fukusha much like herself, standing nearby simply watching seemingly with no intent of actually participating. If he wasn't going to participate then why was he actually here? It wasn't really her place to question it but she couldn't help but feel some degree of concern.

And so she slowed down for a moment, giving the boy a small smile. "Hey there, I'm Fukusha Maho." she spoke, her introduction really being meant for the group as a whole.

Some part of her wanted to drag the boy along with her but she had been told not to force people into things and so after that she would just continue on her way. All the while thinking about what her next action should be and keeping a watchful eye on her surroundings. After all... in either scenario she didn't want to be caught potentially off guard

[Jousai Recruitment] Stones to Boulders

Post by Kao » Fri Jul 07, 2023 1:35 pm

Setsuna’s attack missed its target, and instead of slashing through Kotori’s knee - which, she could admit, may have been going overboard - the blade sliced through air. She stopped its descent before it could collide with the rocky ground, changing her grip so that she held her weapon with only her right hand. As she did, Kotetsu came suddenly from the side and swept the youngest of their team off her feet. It was an unexpected and welcome opening. Setsuna stepped forward, fully intending to follow up with a powerful downward strike while Kotori was on the ground, but the girl wiggled away and began forming seals.

At this point, the Fukusha boy went completely ignored. He looked as uninterested as she felt deep down, but unlike him Setsuna had no intention of sticking to the sidelines. Her mother’s demands and expectations weighed heavily in her mind, and pushed her to refuse to hold back. Barely noticing the other girl who had begun to approach, she cut her eyes to Kotetsu, who was now in a compromising position. Before he could completely recover from his dynamic entry into the fray Setsuna leaped into the air, gracefully twisting her body midair. She hoped to land just behind Kotetsu and then quickly raise one foot, poised to mercilessly stomp his lower leg.

[Jousai Recruitment] Stones to Boulders

Post by Sia » Fri Jul 07, 2023 3:04 pm

Yukari Rei drew in a long breathe and held it for a while before releasing it slowly into the air. "This doesn't seem like it's going to be very fair." She said loud enough for everyone to hear after watching the speed at which they reacted to each other. She sighed, releasing the seal on her katana breaker, unleashing PT1 from it's fuuinjutsu and drawing the weapon into her hand. She took a stance, holding the blade in her right hand and slowly extending the range of the shield affixed to her left arm. "Okay, let's see what you guys got." She said before the length of he blade in her hand began to extend, swiftly whipping outwards and growing to it's full nine meter length and revealing vicious serrations down its length.

She moved at great (15) speed, holding her shield out in front of her and charging towards Maho, simultaneously attempting to smack him with the shield on her left arm while also swinging her massive sword along the ground, attempting to knock the others off of their feet, or worse.

Onu:
And then he tried to bang me and I asked if we could just cuddle so he knows I’m still upset about it
Kao:
Do you have one of him looking at daddy angrily
Kao:

This Delightful Exchange:
Sinpoder: Where can I find a mentor?
Sinpoder: or is that Sia?
Nick: Sia is more of a palpatine than a mentor
Valkier:
Sia's the opposite, they know the system better than any of us but then ignores it to try do/allow whatever regardless 😛
Hayate:
Your intention doesn't matter if your action creates pain
Validusrex, Size of 15 Ryo Puppet Boat:
Half a kayak, large enough to fit one person bent-over or crossed-legged.
Siatupid:
There is peace in being trash.
Wright:
calling people pussies, bitches or whatever and threatening to hurt people makes you very much less than a man and much like a young boy
Onu:
You intentionally handicapping yourself is not a reason to change the system.
Onu:
It is not the mods job to build ideas for you, its our job to make them systematically acceptable. If there is a core concept to it that isn't acceptable, there is nothing any mod can say that will magically make it work.
Onu:
"Over half of the questions asked in the box can be answered by reading the rules."
Sia:
"Everything is banned until balanced."
Kabuto:
"Tourneys bring out the worst in people."
Tydie:
And part of why I scooped him is cus I wanted to make him a Toukai and people told me they thought it was a bad idea :/
so now Ryoga is a constant reminder to always do what I WANT to do, not what others think I should do
Tydie:
saigen is like the dysfunctional family you choose to be part of
Methtastic:
Crazy how elaborate the system is for a group of people who only finish a fight a tenth of the time after 2 months of arguing over 3 seconds of combat
Varian:
If you want to speed up the process you can just talk to one of the other staff members about it.
Most of them have been around longer than Director and can actually read.
