Sacrifice of Self

Post by Diatenshi » Tue Sep 18, 2018 7:21 pm

It was early in the morning the sun had yet to rise and the ground was soaked with dew. In a shallow alcove a young monk was meditating quietly. He was balancing on his staff out on an island in the center of a small pond. Shizuka had once again meditated in place of sleeping through the night. His somber appearance made it seem as if he'd been praying for some recently departed soul. The reality of the situation was much less noble. The previous night he'd received a message that he'd been selected as a potential candidate as a genma host. The possibility of fulfilling such a role in the village had kept him from sleeping and such he'd sought to meditate to calm his spirit.

The sun slowly peeked over the mountain tops, the warm radianced filled the alcove, illuminating it in a mystical scene as the dew lit up. A mystic aura was given off by the young monk as if he was a holy psion sent from above as he balanced atop his bamboo staff. As the immanent monk was meditating a messenger bird would fly in and land on his hand. The young man though surprised would maintain an altruistic face as he took the message from the bird. Unrolling the scroll, Shizuka's brow would furrow as he read his new orders. Having been told to report to the Kage building down in the village, Shizuka stops balancing on his staff and takes off.

The crisp morning air gives Shizuka a slight chill as he's rushing down from the mountain. He arrives in the main lobby and speaks with the receptionist. He is told to wait a moment and that someone would be down to collect him shortly.

Hayate did not particularly enjoy making every part of being the Raikage, but perhaps the part he enjoyed the absolute least was the inevitable re-assignment of the Genma to another young soul.

The last host, Sou, had been the best the village had ever seen. The partnership between the Hell Genma and the young man had grown into something special- teamwork if you could call it that. The Raikage himself had spent countless time with the young host, and truth be told, Hayate had hoped to pass him the mantle of Raikage someday. For the first time in generations it seemed the perfect host had been found. So, when the village found a wild Hell Genma roaming the north and a missing Sou it had been particularly painful for Hayate.

Despite the hosts skill and his kinship with the Genma, his human emotions had been too much. His loneliness had consumed him and as a teacher Hayate had failed. Sulking in failure, he made an unheard of decision to put hell into an older person this time. This time, he had selected a Special Jounin who specialized in Taijutsu. Truth be told, in terms of skill with chakra and control, Shizuka was weak. However, in terms of character he was literally a monk. His emotions were very well balanced and he had multiple means to center himself. When handing out nukes with toxic personalities, it was probably best to consider the new hosts resilience rather than their ability to make explosions.

With a deep sigh, the Raikage stepped out of his office, the doors shutting behind him. He nodded to the 4 figures out in the hallway, each nodding back, before following him as he descended the stairs to collect his visitor. The four figures were each quite unique- all important figures, but rarely known to anyone beyond the council and elite jounin.

Arriving to the lobby, he would bow at a fall 90 degrees in humility before approaching the young man before him.

"You must be Shizuka-san."

"Amitabha Lord Raikage, it is an honor to meet you. Indeed it is as you've said, this humble monk's name is Bukkyo Shizuka."

Shizuka would press his palms together and bow back to the Lord Raikage in greeting, appreciative to the man's respect towards his religious beliefs. He'd heard the stories and rumors about the Raikage who United all of Lightening Country under one banner. Not even half appeared true at face value, not that Shizuka was one to put much stock in rumors and gossip. While it was his first time meeting the Raikage, Shizuka was neither nervous nor excited. At the end of the day the Raikage was still just a man. Albeit a very powerful and influential man, but a mortal none the less. As such Shizuka maintained his quiet and distant demeanor.

He was now rather certain that he'd been selected to be the new host for one of the villages Genma as he could think of no other possible reason that the Raikage himself would greet him personally. While he'd been praised previously for his work as a chuunin, it wasn't anything outstandingly special that the Raikage would summon him to discuss. After a quick glance towards the Raikage's entourage he'd quietly wait for the Raikage to speak and direct their actions.

The Raikage smiled softly, walking to the side of the young man and placing his hand on the back to guide him, motioning his head forward and signalling "come along". They would talk while they walked. To the side of the Raikage, two of the jounin made a set of seals as suddenly a bubble of chakra enveloped the group.

"From here forth we cannot be heard, seen, or sensed. As you may have gathered, you were a candidate to receive the honor of hosting a Genma. I have personally driven you to the top of that list and you are no longer a candidate but the recipient." he patted the man on the back then withdrew his hand. "Should you have no objections, we will proceed to an ancient and secret temple beneath the mountain. Where ever host has undergone the process and recovery for centuries." He began to stretch then rotated his shoulders. It was easy to say, but it meant yet again Hayate would be fighting the beast of hell and beating him into submission.

He let out a sigh.

"I'm getting too old, you know. A ninja's prime is in there 30's and I'm a bit worried. There's no one in the next generation that I can to entrust the future to, yet."

Shizuka's eyes would curiously glance at the mysterious jutsu the Jounin cast as they walked. He wasnt overly surprised that he'd been selected to become the next host due to the summons, but he was rather curious as to why he was selected over the others. What did surprise him however, was that the Raikage pushed him to the top of the list personally. While he had seen the Raikage a few times previously he certainly couldn't say they had much of a relationship.

As the Raikage continued, Shizuka would quietly listen to the man talk his fill not one for too many words himself. However when the lord Raikage expressed worries about the future a smile grew on his face. "Amitabha Lord Raikage's fears are unwarranted. This monk has personally trained a whole class of cadets and assures you they all have bright promising futures. Not a single pupil that passed was sent back for more training. The future of our beautiful village will be in good hands. If not today there will come a time Lord Raikage will find a suitable successor.

Shizuka would pause as his thoughts turned towards the Genma and becoming it's host. His face would turn serious the smile suddenly replaced by pursed lips. He'd look Hayate in the eyes determinedly ams he spoke, his voice firm and resolute yet gentle and quiet.

"As for this humble one accepting the duty and honor he has been chosen to recieve, he shall not deny nor refuse. However, this monk must ask why it was he that was selected. His past and origins are uncertain being an orphan from outside the village. Surely, the elders have their doubts about your choice. If this monk may be so bold; why did Lord Raikage push for him to become the host?"

Despite his usually quiet nature, Shizuka couldn't help but inquire about how the decision was made. Selecting a host was no trivial matter and could have a lasting impact on the village. While he would never betray the village that has become his home and given him everything from food and shelter to a purpose and reason for living, he was certain there would be those amongst the elders that would doubt him.

Beneath the complete cover of the jounin's jutsu, the group continued to move at a decently brisk pace. He was already surprised at the behaviour of the newly chosen host. In most cases, many tended to shut down or reject the offer- generally fear of pressure or other issues that would arise. Instead, the monk accepted it and merely pondered the reason to why. He was beginning to feel that an older host was indeed a better choice.

As for why, he was fairly certain why Shizuka was curious. First and foremost, his age, maturity, and discipline... but there was something else that someone who read the man's file would understand. Shizuka was not from Kumogakure. He was Lightning Country born but he was an adopted orphan who was allowed to enter the world of shinobi from the outside, through his family. To the traditionally minded council and others this was a black mark, but to Hayate, this was something great.

"In brevity I chose you because of your age and your discipline. I believe mental fortitude to be more important than chakra compatibility or shinobi strength." he paused. "But I also chose you because we are not juts Kumogakure. We are the people of Lightning Country." He placed his hand firmly on Shizuka's shoulder.

It troubled Hayate that only Kumogakure's culture and people were off a higher plane than others, and that his own villagers often considered themselves better than their country men. He wanted unity, and that was in the way.

"I really want children all over this country to have people to look up to."

Shizuka was quiet and did not respond the man's words. There was nothing more that needed to be said. His curiosity had been sated and he'd even gained a glimpse into the Raikage's mind. Surely the man who had united the entire country had an aspiring mind. Valuing him for the very thing that should have normally disqualified him it was an eye opener for him.

He'd quietly walk with the Raikage allowing the man to guide him to their destination. There were many twist and turns as they headed deeper into the mountain. As they went deeper into the mountain the architecture would grow older as it had been left untouched and undisturbed. The amount of light would slowly dim getting darker and darker adding a dark and mysterious air to the situation.

Although he had his personal apprehensions about becoming a Jinchukiri, Shizuka was not one to shirk a duty that had been assigned to him. Despite being fully aware that this new "assignment" could be considered a death sentence due to the relatively short life spans of Kumogakure's Jinchukiri he was not about to back out. If he, the one selected to have the highest survival chance as a host, refused then someone else would have to take his place.

The group would descend into the mountain, it becoming darker and more mysterious. The veil cast by the others would drop as within the mountain, there was no need. Even chakra disappeared from the world beneath the holy mountain. As they continued their path, various tall statues lined the passageways, each statue different than the last. The statues were the previous Jinchuuriki- the age old champion and protectors of the village. Protectors from the demon that once roamed and destroyed mountains on which they lived. Additionally, guards of various rank lined the halls, each bowing as the group made their way. This was a surpreme honor, one that dated to even before the birth of the modern village.

"It is a history rarely ever known to common man or shinobi, but the Genma once ruled our world, Shizuka. The killed humans- we were their slaves... and then, at some point we turned the tables. We forced gods to do our bidding." His voice was cold, different from before. In truth, perhaps the only thing Hayate feared was the spirits. No genma in particular was scary, but, Hayate believed life was a cycle, and once more the spirits would dominate some day.

"Every host has learned more and over time, the Genma came to befriend humans. That friendship between spirit and man started in these halls." he paused.

"Today, you will be the next successor in a long line of guardians. Guardians of man-kind. Today, you will become a demi-god."

"Amitabha. Those that seek enlightenment do not seek power, but let it come naturally... Is this what you meant Master?" Shizuka would be lost for a moment in his memories as he remembered the old man that had brought him into the monastery. Though the old man was gone his teachings and lessons would forever echo in Shizuka's ears.

"This monk knows not of gods or demi-gods Lord Raikage. To seek enightenment is not to seek for power, glory, or vengeance, but to find your destined place and through meditation and acceptance overcome and transcend. If this is to be the path this monk is destined to tread, he shall not shirk his duty."

This guy reaaaally is dedicated to this whole monk thing, huh? Hayate thought silently to himself before letting out a brief sigh and placing his hand on the young-man's shoulder. The group had by now stopped, a rather large gate in front of them. The doors would slowly begin to open, and retracting his hand, the Kage would turn around and enter through them- and into a very huge chamber with blood red, panicked beast besserking, held back by at least thirty jounin tugging chains. Hayate coughed, then walked forward to the beast.

"Hello again." he said, the beast pausing for a moment before going even more besserk, the jounin digging their feat back and pulling the chains of their fuuinjutsu more. The Aura Genma absolutely hated Hayate. It often referred to him as impostor, due to their similar abilities, and the fact that Hayate beat it multiple times did not help their relationship.

"Shall we?" he said turning to the monk.

Shizuka would pause at the door stunned. While he had heard of genma he'd never expected to see one in his lifetime. He watched in awe and wonder as the beast took over 30 Jounin to restrain. Clearly it was not here willingly. It made him wonder if the genam had become friends with humans or not as the view before him clearly indicated otherwise as the beast thrashed trying to escape it's bonds.

As he slowly stepped forward he chant quietly to himself to still his heart. What he was feeling was not quite fear yet not quite excitement but a mixture of the two. It was an attitude unfitting of a monk seeking enlightenment. As such he quickly began chanting the scriptures to calm his mind.

"Amitabha. This creature seems to be suffering, let us put it's heart at ease." Shizuka would nod his head to the Raikage as he stepped up beside him. While he was unsure of exactly what was to come, he'd follow the Raikage's lead and assist or perform whatever was required of him.

Hayate nodded, not putting any attention into the man's own pause. He knew it would be a shocking sight, even for a monk. Nevertheless the monk had still handled it better than most tended to. With a sigh, Hayate stepped forward and eyed the beast. The beast had nothing but a savage desire to kill Hayate.

"You failed to protect him!" the beast said as it let out a rather low growling yell. "If you let me control you- control everyone, control it all. He'd of been safe. We'd have lost nothing. Humans cannot protect anyone." he yelled, rushing forward and knocking a few Jounin over, who quickly lept back to their feet and attempted to rain the beast in.

Hayate was dead silent.

Looking to the new future host, he sighed.

"He's telling the truth. The last host... I failed him. I lost a good friend and student. And he lost maybe the closest-" the beast at this point wailed and in a massive surge of energy sent blasts of energy rippling of fit's body. A few of the men holding the chains this time found themselves on the ground with nothing in their hand. Hayate's body lit up in a spectacular gold light as Raiton flooded out of his body. He raised his arms as lightning began to flow off of his body and into the air, and with another wave the lightning was rushing forward, surrounding the Genma and shocking it.

He was putting everything he had in- paralyzing and stunning the genma, though it's recovery time was quite fast.

"If you're ready, disrobe. I'll pacify it for the sealing time to continue the process."
