He had been overwhelmed by the guilt of what had happened- the guilt for those in the village and country who were left behind in the struggle for progress. While it was true he had cause the greatest change for his country and village in history, Hayate's conscience could somewhat forgive the men or woman his hands directly killed in the face of battle but it could not forgive those he had indirectly killed.
While they had done their best to limit bloodshed and violence, in the end the horrors of war drove some mad. While some men could move past the horrors of the battlefield, those who already bore heavy crosses before the war found themselves quickly crushed and shattered into a million pieces beneath the weight of all they held on their shoulders. In particular, two of the villages mightiest champions, the Jinchuuriki suffered this. Hayate could not help but feel pain and regret. Both Jinchuuriki had been appointed by him. He had chosen boys with loving families, lots of support. Boys with talent and great hearts... but, he had chosen boys nonetheless. He had chosen boys to carry brutal weapons with toxic personalities, and then sent those boys to war... He gave them reason, but perhaps the reason was too much. In the end both boys broke. First, the Jinchuuriki of the Hell genma... his own student Sou... And then, the host of the Extensions genma. In the end, he had decided he would not make the same mistake twice. He would never seal the genma into children- his countries children again.
Plans however rarely ever go as intended.

The ground surrounding the creatures was covered in blood. The blood connected at either end, the bisected halves of a senior jounin, who mere moments ago had become the new host of Hyeonmu, the Enchougenma.
Hayate's left hand released the man he had been holding by the jacket, a rather young Jounin named Kenketi. Flinging him back behind him, the Raikage fell to his knee and clutched his side with his now free hand. Steam was rolling off his body as it began to immediately heal itself.
It can't be... The genma rejected him?
Hayate did not inherently believe the Genma to be malicious, but the state a Genma was left in shortly after a sealing... was one of a crazed, broken mental state. IT was not easy having your soul, body, and essence twisted and handled by magic and forced into the body of another. Traumatic to say the least.
As his hand pushed in his side, he grunted. His right 3rd and 4th rib had broken and his right hand completely mangled, his right arm severely burned and his shoulder dislocated. He panted as the water of his Aura that had expanded to protect the men behind him fell momentarily- like a flicker that represented his temporary loss of control. He needed to get a read on the situation but his chakra senses were overwhelmed by the sheer amount of chakra... he couldn't get a read on the sealing team or the others. The only thing he could feel was the Genma's overwhelming energy. His eyes darting side to side he surveyed the battle field.
Even at the cost of one of his arms he had only managed to to save and shield roughly 11 jounin. Half of the team was dead or at the very least incapacitated, their bodies scattered amongst the trees. The first sealing squad had been annihilated, having been the closest to the action besides Hayate. He had managed to save one of the men in that squad though. (Kenketi)
The Enchougenma continued it's blood curdling scream as it's eyes darted to Hayate. It could feel his presence- it knew that he was not like the other men. Suddenly, it's vision transfixed on him.
Shit.
He wouldn't have time to accelerate the regeneration of his arm or ribs.
"Nakamura, Sato, Kenketi, and Kojima fall behind me. They live no matter what, rest fan out and provide supporting fire. " he grunted as his Aura shifted forward- it taking the shape vaguely of a man with two arms, his body moving to control the aura. The scale of a Genma level battle was not like that of shinobi. Every attack, every single move was more powerful. Even if Hayate could protect himself he could not guarantee others could survive the AoE that followed. He would need to make sure the sealing team and Tenkujutsu specialist stayed up. They all would.
They would have to use their varying skillsets to over power the Genma or they would all die here today.
If I can hold the genma long enough, the others can retrieve and ready the sealing pot.
