It was midday without a cloud in the sky and the sun brightly shining down upon the village, a perfect time to kick back, get some lunch, and relax with some snacks, maybe even add in a nap if she really felt like it. Today however didn't particularly feel like a day for napping and so Jun instead found herself walking into a cozy little teahouse that she had discovered quietly hidden away in a corner of the shopping district some months back. It wasn't exactly the most popular of places due to being a bit old fashioned and not being in the greatest of locations but really she felt as if that all just added to the charm.

With a pleasant ring of the bell as the door opened, Jun entered the small building, immediately being greeted by her waitress and led to a table near the window. Upon being seated she ordered a simple sweet tea and a couple sandwiches and then turned to stare out the window, watching the crowds passing by mostly oblivious to her little haven, though every now and again one would actually notice the place and come inside. It was a sight that made her truly happy but at the same time a bit disappointed that she had to share her secret place.

Ah well, more popularity was always a good thing for a business regardless of her own feelings. Besides... perhaps she would even see a familiar face or two.

Kenshin Yasu was walking alone along the market, trying to enjoy the quiet. So far the genma within her had settled into silence for the day. She'd found that Konego seemed to get bored very easily. He preferred training, but Yasu was still healing from the initial sealing and wasn't allowed to exert herself for the time being. If she were honest with herself, she was bored too. Because of that she had made a stop by the bookstore to pick up a couple things to help her train later, theories on ninjutsu and genjutsu both that would be good to keep in mind when she was able to do more physical training again. Honestly she thought Konegu seemed even more bored at the prospect, but he had at least stopped grumbling.

Now all she sought was a quiet place to read them, and before long the sight of a quaint little teahouse caught her eye. A smile spread across her lips and she almost skipped to the door. The sound of the little bell over the door brought a giggle to her lips and she was shown to a seat. She was all too happy, ordering herself a small tea and a complimentary bowl of fruit for either eating with it or putting in it. She also ordered a rice ball for herself and a couple treats, suddenly realizing she hadn't eaten at all that day.

By time the tea arrived she was already nose deep into her notes, and hardly noticed as she accidentally speared a piece of her fruit on one of the red spikes at her elbows.

Jun had just finished her tea and had moved onto her sandwiches when the sound of the door opening caught her ears, the girl grinning at the sight of one of her classmates, though that grin was quickly replaced by a frown, head tilting as the girl seemed to look somehow different, red spikes jutting out from her elbows. Well, regardless the frown soon turned back into a smile, some part of her even wanting to go up to the girl, though she seemed busy and really Jun herself could understand the need to have some peace and quiet.

Nonetheless her interest was piqued and she began watching the various patrons of the little teahouse, some reading like Yasu and others either quietly talking amongst themselves or pursuing some other task. Regardless, it was a very peaceful sight, one that she was happy to see as it meant that she could relax without issue.

At least that was the plan but then she saw it... one of Yasu's strange looking elbow spikes had speared a piece of fruit and Jun herself couldn't help but giggle at the sight. Not only was the sight itself rather silly but somehow it was even sillier that Yasu herself hadn't noticed it. Who knew that someone could become so engrossed in a task that they would become entirely oblivious to even their own actions.

Grinning to herself, she finished off her sandwich and grabbed the other, at that point making her way over to Yasu's table, making sure to move as quietly as possible even as she took a seat, taking bites out of her sandwich as she set to watching Yasu up close, laying her head down and even helping herself to the piece of fruit that had earlier been impaled. Now, how long would it take Yasu to realize she was there, and would she recognize her once so? Jun certainly hoped so. It would be a shame if her classmates had forgotten her, though not entirely unwarranted as she, albeit due to her own laziness, hadn't had much presense.

Yasu remained engrossed in her scrolls, studying as she sipped at her tea and hardly even aware of the lamentable sigh from her inner companion. Konegu sighed repeatedly after the piece of fruit was speared as he clearly seemed aware of it when she wasn't. After several moments Yasu finally began to notice the sighing, and though she tried to ignore him she found it rather annoying and even intrusive considering she was trying to study. She rolled her eyes and sighed heavily, before audibly muttering, "What?" at him. But rather than respond the spirit made a sound similar to one clearing their throat and Yasu sat up suddenly.

It was only then that she saw the motion out of the corner of her eye and she jumped with a slight yelp, turning to see Jun beside her. It took her a minute to register there was someone there, meeping out a quiet "Oh hi." before she realized who it was. Blinking rapidly she suddenly recognized her classmate and grinned from ear to ear, suddenly hugging Jun (though obviously far more careful with the spikes). "Oh god hi! Jun!" The girl was clearly excited. Since her sealing she hadn't had a chance to really see anyone yet, mostly because she was under such a close watch due to that same sealing, and healing from it. Her parents had barely let her out of their sight, until today.

"How are you?" she asked excitedly.

Jun simply smiled as she watched her classmate working through her readings, head tilting as the girl suddenly let out a very audible sigh. What reason could there have been to let out such a loud sigh? Surely those texts couldn't be that difficult so it had to have been something else, but she had no idea what could cause such stress otherwise given the very peaceful, incredibly calming surroundings. It was very strange to her but nonetheless even if she had figured it out and then chosen to intervene, she wouldn't have had the time to do so as she was finally noticed at that very moment, the girl herself smiling at the surprise that Yusa seemed to express at her presence.

However she couldn't help but frown at the lackluster greeting, though that quickly changed back into a grin as she was suddenly enveloped in a hug and much more enthusiastically greeted, not even the small amount of surprise she felt at someone being so enthusiastic to see her being able to stop her from tightly hugging the girl in return, Yasu being one of her few acquaintances that she really considered to be a friend, even if their friendship was still in its earliest stages. Yasu! It's so good to see you!" she exclaimed, oblivious to the brief stares that her sudden burst of excitement had received.

"I've been doing pretty good. I've been recently taking my training a little bit more seriously but apart from that, nothing has really changed. Mom seems to be more frustrated than ever with my love of lazing around though." she responded to Yasu's question with a giggle, tongue slightly sticking out.

"How have you been? It seems like you may have been quite a bit busier than I have."

Yasu almost snorted as Jun mentioned her own laziness. The girl had never been abash about it, much to the chagrin of their teachers and everyone around them. Yasu herself had honestly envied it. For a brief time she'd even tried to take a lazier approach to things herself, but it had just bugged her too much. Relaxing was a difficult concept enough for her, being lazy just didn't compute for the girl. But as Jun asked how Yasu had been, the girl faltered a moment. She wanted to tell her outright what was going on, but realized almost immediately she couldn't tell her everything.

'You know your village wouldn't want you to speak of me.' Konegu echoed through her mind, as if he needed to remind her at all.

'Yeah I know...' Yasu replied, mentally rolling her eyes as she sighed and looked at her friend. "Honestly just been doing a lot of training." she replied at first, not entirely a lie but it certainly felt like one. Though it did suddenly occur to her that she needed to explain the fact that she was still sore from the sealing. "I overdid it a bit recently though, landed in the hospital and everything. So I'm not allowed to do anything for at least a week..." she motioned to the books and scrolls she had with her, shrugging. "I'm trying to stay sane." she added with a chuckle, knowing habits of being a bit of an overachiever were in such contrast to her friend.

Jun tilted her head as she listened to Yasu, somehow feeling that she was only being told partial truths. She wasn't about to question her friend however, both out of not wanting to be a bother and knowing very well that she would get the full story eventually once the right time came. More importantly she was very much concerned about the fact that Yasu had been working hard enough to be hospitalized as a result. That would never do, no way no how, she couldn't stand the thought of a friend hurting herself doing something reckless. What to do about it though? She knew from past experience that the girl had difficulty in so much as simply taking a few moments to relax and so convincing her to just take time off and laze about until she healed would likely be impossible.

However for as long as they were together like this then just maybe.. Alright, I've decided!" she suddenly exclaimed, once more getting strange looks as she grabbed Yasu's hand with both of hers.. The girl may not be able to relax on her own but surely with a friend? "Just for today at least, no more work. Since we have the chance we should just ya know, take a day off and hang out as friends should.

Yasu felt a moment where she was holding her breath as Jun processed what she had told her. It was hard, she realized, lying to someone. She hated it already, and part of her wondered just how many people she was going to have to lie to now. 'How long will I have to lie to people? Will I ever be able to tell the truth?'

"Do they really need the truth? Does that keep them safe? Or does that put them in more danger? Think about it child. Too many questions could just make it harder for you. But you tell me, what do you think?"

Yasu mentally cringed at all the questions. 'I don't see how telling them about you could possibly hurt them.'

She felt more than heard Konegu call her 'naive' for her comments, but she didn't press the issue as Jun spoke. She almost jumped as the other girl suddenly grabbed her hand and she smiled at her nervously. "No work?" she asked, looking at her papers forlornly. "But there's so much to do.... to study..." she turned and looked at Jun a moment, biting her lower lip as she debated it. "What would we even do?"

Jun quickly shook her head as Yasu looked down at her papers, some part of her wanting to be a bit more forceful. But no, she couldn't do that. Yasu had to come along willingly or else there would be no point to any of this. This was all for her after all. "No work, just for one day." she asserted, smiling as she was asked what they would even do. "As for plans, well.. there's a candy store I discovered the other day that I thought we could drop by and I hear the equipment at the old playground is still functional, though in hindsight that might be a bit much considering you were in the hospital... So I guess we could just drop by the candy store and see what happens from there?" In truth, while she wanted to help Yasu to relax, she also really wanted candy, the other parts of her plan having been made up on the spot, but she wasn't about to tell her friend that much. She had to seem like she was being at least a little responsible here. However that didn't mean she had to come up with all their plans on her own, so she spoke up with one more question...

"Unless you have any ideas of your own?"

Yasu naturally made a face as Jun again suggested no work for the day, but as she went on to talk about a candy store she actually stopped to think about it. Even to the normally work focused girl, it sounded fun. Yasu didn't have candy very often, between her mother training her how to dance and her shinobi training, there wasn't much room for unnecessary sugar. She frowned a moment as she thought about it, and nodded. "Alright, Candy it is." she said, smiling a bit at Jun before she started collecting up her papers, scrolls, and books, stuffing them into the back she had with her.

"Thank the gods, child... even I was getting bored with this drivel."

Yasu paused a moment in her packing at Konegu's comments, before letting out a small snort of laughter. She shook her head and went right back to what she was doing. Once she was done she got into her purse and put out enough money to pay for what she had already ordered and turned to smile at Jun. "So where is this candy store?"

Jun's eyes sparkled as Yasu finally agreed to her plan, both because they would get to spend time together casually and because well... she would get to share her love of candy with a friend whom she knew hadn't had much exposure to it. "Good. I think you'll find that candy is a wonderful thing." she said, cheerfully skipping up to the counter to pay for her own orders as well as ordering a few pastries for later.

"It's not too far really, but I gotta say you'd be surprised at the types of places I've found in my neverending search of places to hide and nap. There are a lot of little stores hidden away if you just know where to look." Jun explained to Yasu in response to her question, exiting the little teahouse, once again grinning at the pleasant ring of the bell, and leading the way down the street, the pair soon coming across what seemed to be an ordinary two story house nestled on a corner street, though it had two faded signs, one above the door and the other sitting just in front, though while faded they were still legible and pointed out that they had in fact reached their destination. "Appearances aside, this place is probably the best candy store in the village. Though it is just an ordinary house, at least upstairs. The first floor is 100% normal shop." she said to Yasu, smiling all the while as she headed inside, dragging Yasu along with her by the hand, just in case.

Yasu found herself chuckling as she watched Jun's sudden excitement, and followed her out of the tea house. She was so used to Jun being bored in classes and the like, she wasn't really used to seeing her so happy and even energetic. The walk wasn't far, and Yasu was pleasantly surprised by the distance they went. The place didn't look like much, honestly if she had to guess she would have thought the place was years past closed. The faded lettering on the signs looked like they were once colorful, enticing, and even pretty. But now it was barely anything. She tilted her head in curiosity as Jun praised the place, and of course proceeded to drag her inside.

She wasn't sure what to expect, though from the signage out front she had thought there'd be something like cobwebs or faded paint. One point she was right on, the paint was faded, but the rest was immaculate. Though the paint hadn't been updated or redone, there were display cases full of colorful candies. The place was clean, immaculately so, and the treats looked amazing. Yasu couldn't help herself once she stepped inside. She moved to the cases and walked along them slowly. "I've never seen anything like this..."

Jun couldn't help but smile at her friend's amazement, remembering the surprise that she too had felt when she had first found the place, though she had found it didn't bother her with how orderly and welcoming it was on the inside. "Remember Yasu, appearances can be deceiving. I don't know why they don't bother cleaning up the paint a bit but all the same it doesn't change that this in a short time has become my favorite shop in the village."

"Now where... Ah!" she exclaimed as she spotted the place's owner walking out of a back room, a young woman whom seemed to just as quickly spot the pair. "Oh, hello Jun. This is your friend?" the woman said, a gentle smile on her face all the while.

"Yeah, this is Yasu, a friend and classmate. I really wanted her to see this place and to try some of your candies. Speaking of, do have any of those chocolates I like?" Jun spoke, first introducing Yasu and then just as quickly switching to one of the reasons why they had came.

However the woman simply shook her head, though she retained her smile. "Not yet but they'll be ready real soon if you don't mind waiting."

After assuring her that it wasn't a problem and that they could easily wait, Jun turned to Yasu and the many cases of candy, the girl practically drooling, though she did stop herself from actually doing it. "Alright, so where would you like to start? There are so many different types of candies to get through."

Yasu listened quietly to the pair as they spoke, but she paced up and down the cases to get a good look at everything. It was hard to decide what she really wanted. She'd never had much of a sweet tooth, mostly because she'd never really been allowed to have sweets. She had never even had much in the way of fruit, being an odd one for her age that actually preferred vegetables. Fact was, her lack of sweet consumption meant she had no idea where to start. "I have no idea..." she replied when Jun asked her what she wanted to start with.

"I've never really had sweets... mom wanted me to be a dancer growing up, rather than a shinobi. So I was always on restricted diets and stuff, so.... I've never really had any sweets." she said, blushing lightly as she paused in front of a case. She saw chocolate covered marshmallows, chocolate covered strawberries, and so many other things, all of them covered in chocolate in that particular case. She was pretty sure she even saw chocolate covered sweet potato and chocolate covered peppers. The latter actually interested her slightly, as she adored spicy foods. But it still seemed like a very strange combination.

"I think I remember being told about something like that." Jun responded, head tilted to the side as she pondered over what Yasu had just told her. That was definitely no good. She had frequently been told she had no taste buds as she could eat just about anything and had no real preferences so there was no real use in her leading the charge herself. In that case, what to do?

As she pondered over it she noticed Yasu inspecting the candy cases, her eyes seeming to be drawn towards a particular one. Feeling curious, she followed her friend over towards the case that had grabbed her attention. "Ah, this case holds a lot of the owner's experiments. Every so often she seems to get an urge to cover some new thing in chocolate and put it out to see if it ends up taking off. Might you be interested in trying some of these? She's tried to get me to help but you know well that I'm very much useless when it comes to these things. I'll eat almost anything put in front of me without complaint. And if I remember right, you seem to have a fondness for spice." she said, lips turned up into a small smile.

"And try not to think too hard. In this particular instance, just do what I do on a regular basis and try to think with your gut"

Yasu frowned and stared at the case for several moments as she tried to figure out just what to get. She knew her parents would tell her one at the most, but no more than that. She even found herself wondering if Ieyasu would tell her she couldn't have any. But as she reached for her coinpurse, a devious smile spread across her lips. "You know what... they aren't here." she muttered, looking at the case and turning to get the attention of the woman working there. From there she proceeded to order a chocolate covered banana slice, a chocolate covered strawberry, a chocolate covered pepper, something called peppermint bark, and a few sample squares of fudge in varying flavors.

It was quite a collection, but Yasu turned and grinned at Jun as the woman get everything together. "You know what, my parents can stuff it for now. It's my money anyway, right?" she remarked.

She could almost hear Konegu chuckling to himself within her, but he didn't actually speak a word to her.

Jun smiled and nodded at Yasu's proclamation, some part of her feeling strangely proud of the girl, an oddly warm feeling bubbling up within her as she watched her friend pay for her acquisitions. "Yep, you've got the right idea. This will be our little secret, something to giggle about with just the two of us..." she replied, trailing off as the woman handed Yasu her treats and walked into the back, just as quickly returning with several squares of white chocolate fudge, Jun herself almost letting out a girly squeal at the sight. "Ah! My chocolate! Oh you are the best!" she squeaked, pulling out her purse and quickly making the money for goods exchange, grinning from ear to ear as she came back with a bag, enthusiastically handing a fudge square over to Yasu. "This place has the best candies in the village as I've no doubt said, but these particular chocolates to me are absolute paradise." she said, walking past the chocolate and towards a section filled with various gummy candies. "We aren't done yet though. Tell ya what though, anything else you want I'll buy. And don't hold back. I think the owner owes me a favor anyways since I minded the store a couple days ago." she said with a devious giggle.

She had to admit, she was having a blast. This was an even better idea than she had even imagined. Who knew that being with a friend, even when doing something fairly ordinary, something she did on a regular basis herself even, could be so much fun.

Opposites Attract

The funniest part of not having sweets in the past, Yasu had no idea what might happen if she had too many. As she mentally thought about how she was going to hide her treats, she also was thinking about how many she wanted to eat soon, while Konegu silently chuckled in the back of her mind. She already had the chocolate covered pepper in her mouth as Jun turned and told her she could get more. She grinned before finishing her chewing and her eyes lit up. "This is amazing!" she remarked, almost bouncing up and down as she started moving to another case. She had no idea what to choose, but came across something colorful.

She immediately pointed them out, a variety of truffles in different flavors. "How about these?"

Opposites Attract

Jun tilted her head at Yasu's question as the girl's attention seemed to once more be drawn to specific case, moving to join her in staring at the truffles, periodically watching her out of the corner of her eyes as she bounced around. "Oh, absolutely we can get some of these. They're not something I get very often either so this will be like a rare treat." she said, walking away just long enough to get the owner's attention, the pair even quickly having a whispered conversation, before returning with the woman in tow.

"I cashed in my favor. Most definitely worth it." she whispered over to Yasu as she watched the woman gather up a few of the truffles and package the bunch, Jun accepting it as she handed over a bit of cash.

With that the owner walked away once again, leaving Jun and Yasu alone, Jun rocking back and forth on her heels as she looked around thinking of where to head next. "Ya know, I'm having a lot of fun hanging out. It honestly feels pretty great to finally get to do a thing like this after we've been friends for so long. I know how you are about your work so I won't push but I really hope we get to do this more often in the future." she said a bit absentmindedly, smiling all the while. Despite not really realizing, at least not for a minute or so, what she had said, she honestly meant every word.

"Alright, so where to next?"
