Yasu's fifteenth birthday was coming up, and somehow that seemed to translate in her mother's mind to an important milestone of dance. Though Yasu had performed with her mother or in brief stints for a single song a hundred times, she had never performed an entire show as the star of it. Her mother had decided it was time, and so on top of her shinobi training, she now had a strict training schedule for dance practice as well. Her mother had never before been so strict on Yasu's eating habits, her spare time, and everything in her life. Today was a day that had begun with shinobi training, and after lunch it moved on to dance.

The Kenshin Speakeasy was a beautiful place that Yasu's parents owned. Though often referred to as a club, it was certainly much more elegant than that. It was a place for the village's elite, those who could afford bottles of sake and entrees that were 3,000 Ryo each, and more. The tables usually shone even in the dim lights, covered in beautiful white cloths and gold trim. Currently it was closed, the tables were plain and empty, except for one just off to the side of the stage. That one had been set specially for Yasu's guardian, Ieyasu, while the girl practiced. They had served him any food and drink he wanted, Yasu's parents deciding that the best way to repay the man for protecting their daughter was to give him free meals any time he was there.

Yasu had noticed a second person watching her in the shadows at another table, but said not a word. She was certain she knew who it was, and his presence didn't bother her in the least. Besides, she was trying to focus on the work she was doing on stage. After nearly falling during a simple spin she could hear her mother screeching at her. Yasu sighed, rubbing her forehead. "I'm sorry, I'm just tired I guess."

"That is just an excuse! We have work to do, and you aren't doing it. Do it."

"I'm a shinobi now, mother. How many times do I have to say it? I have more than dance now, I don't even see the point in this." she muttered, sighing and shaking her head.

"This is still your life. You are my daughter and so long as that is true you will stay true to this. THIS is where your talents lie."

'Child, your body isn't well. Something's wrong.'

Senji sat at his desk, scribbling away at his notebook as he considered the effects of the ninjutsu he had been experimenting with. The combination of so many sources of sensory input into a single vessel was a complicated phenomenon, and ensuring that signals weren't crossed and everything was properly configured had taken some time. Even though he hadn't placed them so close together as to get a constant view of the entire city, Senji was aware of about seventy per cent of it all at once. He scratched at the base of his skull, the tattooing still itched there.

He closed his eyes and looked inward, seeing with unreal eyes the layout of his new sensory network. His sixth sense was always active in the village now, and it was somewhat disorienting to always be aware of it. Blocking off his sight tended to help quiet the noise in his brain. He could see thousands of people all at once, and identify them each by chakra signature. It was like he was looking through hundreds of eyes. It had been simple to find a few individuals amongst the crowds, due to the uniqueness of either their strength or quality of their chakra. The Raikage, for example, was noticeable for the sheer size of his chakra pool. Meanwhile, each of the Jinchuuriki glowed differently to normal people and he recognised the dark crimson of the one he feared most.

It was while he was checking in on the girl and her ever-present tormentor that he noticed something strange. He thought, just for a moment, that her signature had flickered. Dimmed, just for an instant. At first he had thought it just a trick of his mind, a symptom of his overworked brain trying to get used to always using these new senses. He kept writing his notes, all the time keeping just a small piece of his mind watching her. It was about an hour before it happened again, and Senji was sure that he'd caught it this time. The magician stood, closed his books, and walked toward the door. Before he reached it, space bent and twisted and his body was compacted through an impossibly small hole through reality.

There was the sound like an angrily flapping flag and the rushing of wind as Senji expanded back into the real world, emerging from his personal realm. He had chosen to emerge at one of his anchors in the city, the nearest to the girl's home. She wasn't home at the time, but somewhere nearby. He walked through the streets, quickly back into the marketplace and down the thoroughfare to a rather upper crust establishment. He clicked his tongue in annoyance, uncertain his more comfortable attire would gain him entry. He hated the tightness of his formal jacket, but he didn't want to look too out of place. He turned into an alleyway and concentrated for a moment. There was a blue flash and he had changed his clothes, now in a long white coat with golden trimmings. The golden fastening around the drops of amber that decorated the tail of the coat glistened as he stepped back out into the electrical light. When he passed through the door, the bouncer stared sceptically at the less than groomed state of his hair but allowed him entrance none the less.

It was there, in that cozy yet decadent bar, that he had sat in the back and watched. Eyes both seen and unseeable followed the girl as she stepped onto and off of the stage. There had been one customer in the front getting particularly positive attention from the staff, and he appeared very interested in Yasu in particular. But while Senji assumed his interest was for the dance, Senji watched the girl's chakra. He watched for the duration of the first and second time she appeared on stage. It was the third that he saw it dim again, and this time it had remained that way for quite some time before it recovered.

Ieyasu sat at the bar of the establishment as always, allowed entrance based solely on his position as Yasu's protector and not at all on his rather simple appearance. After all, he still had his weaponry with him; couldn't be much of a protector without his tools of the trade. He was granted free food by the bar, an edict passed down by Yasu's parents as the owners of the establishment, which helped to abate his distaste for the whole thing. Still, while he ate, his main job was to keep his attention on Yasu and the establishment in general, to ensure her safety.

The arrival of the new presence at the entrance to the building didn't escape his notice, and it was strange since the building didn't usually pick up until much later, but for now he was more concerned with Yasu. She didn't look well, and her mother was pushing her way too hard right now. They had just gotten done training naught but a few hours ago, the young girl had been training non stop today... Had she even eaten? Woman, what are you doing? Can't you see your daughter's fatigue? Let her rest... dammit...

Yasu let out a groan of annoyance, but returned painfully to the task at hand. As her mother directed her she went up on her toes and back down to her heels, up and back down, up and back down. Her mother made another hand motion and Yasu's hands moved from being folded at her waist, to arched over her head with the tips of her fingers touching. She went up on her toes again, and another hand motion meant one of her feet came up with her knee pointed outward and a shift of her hands. Every motion of her mother's hand meant another movement from the girl. Despite labored breath and sweat, her hair thankfully pulled back in a ponytail, she continued each move until her mother suddenly stopped and strode off without a word.

Yasu sat down heavily on a nearby wooden box and took a few deep breaths to try and compose herself. 'How long will you put up with her abuse, child?' "I'm fine." Yasu muttered aloud to the spirit, glancing the direction her mother had gone to make sure she was really done before sighing in relief and looking towards Ieyasu. "I think we're done for the day." she told him, turning to under her shoes. As she did she pulled them off gingerly, grimacing at the state of her toes. Each seemed to have a smear of blood at best, the nail of her big toe clearly having a crack in it that was bleeding as she made a face. A prodding from the spirit within momentarily distracted her of course, and she looked up to see Senji in the area an audience might be. She didn't say anything immediately, clearing her throat as she set her shoe aside and pulled another box to her that clearly contained bandages and the like.

As the dance neared its conclusion, Senji drained what remained in his drink and stood from his seat . He watched as Yasu sat down next to someone, and hesitated. The man she was sitting beside was huge, and more than a little intimidating to someone as slight as Senji. The man was a mountain, and his muscles practically rippled every time he breathed. The magician was certain that his head would fit snugly into the palm of a single hand. The juxtaposition of the waif of a girl next to the absolute unit beside her was as comical as it was frightening. What on earth is the relationship there?

After his shock wore off, Senji began to approach. He stepped closer, into the light of the area before the stage where an audience would have stood were they not in a more reserved kind of establishment. Senji nodded with a smile to Yasu and gestured as if to ask if it were okay for him to approach and join the pair. They hadn't exactly parted on the best terms after their last meeting, and he wasn't sure whether she'd be willing to see him after what seemed like a taxing performance. Not to mention the state of her feet, which was a concern in and of itself.

All the while he kept his sixth sense trained on her, waiting for her chakra to spasm once more. The way that it flickered screamed of some kind of distress, or extreme exhaustion, but her chakra levels themselves appeared normal. It was truly perplexing. His eyes, meanwhile, remained attentive for any physical symptom of what was ailling the poor girl.
