Setting his foot down beyond the threshold of training ground seven to Yūku, was like entering another life. Symbolic only in that it represented his abandoning of weakness, the feeling of helplessness acting as anchors bringing him down. Each step forward, a fierce hammer to the chains that bound him until at last! The feeling of freedom - standing before a lone Cherry tree towering against the elements, the boy had found himself. Found peace. His right hand tingled as he brushed the base of the tree in wonder; fascinated by the many depths of a creation so profound, so tenacious, so....strong and yet so very, very simple. This and the gods were what his people worshiped...but why?

Turning abruptly at the heel Yūku faced away from the tree and drew his Bokken with a swift and diligent ferocity. Jabbing forward in stride, he'd attempted to perform a maneuver he'd often seen his elder brother Li, use in training. Stretching the blade out while maintaining an alignment with his wielding arm was easy enough, as was loosening his grip at the peak of his thrust for momentum. But when it came time to reverse the blade and quickly strike in the opposite direction Yūku fumbled with his fingers and wound up striking himself in the knee instead. "Ack!" He grumbled, already he could feel the bruise forming. Again he attempted to perform the maneuver and again he failed, striking himself in the elbow this time with the back of the weapon.

On the third try Yūku shifted the placement of his left foot before starting out and to his surprise, when the time came to reverse direction he managed to pull it off. However, his hands wound up in the wrong place on the weapon and he ended up launching it forward like a catapult. "Huh...I was sure I'd nailed it that time." More amused than upset, Yūku positive attitude was almost limitless. Today, he believed that he could accomplish anything!

The lone cherry tree was a common landmark that he passed on his days off. There was a strong inclination to find a seat at the bottom of the tree and then drift off to sleep with the warm sunshine. He had a book propped open in one hand as he walked but he wasn't that interested in the subject matter. It had been a discount buy in the new author's bin and he was beginning to see why it was so cheap. As he was about to start walking up to find that 'reading' spot when movement caught his eye from the other side of the trunk.

A Samurai? No, that's not right...

The boy seemed a little older than Fi, not much but the way he carried himself was different. The swordsmanship wasn't the best but everyone had to practice sometime. Even though the handling of the bokken was a bit clumsy there seemed to be some purpose behind it, intent or spirit maybe. The weapon itself was rather large and would give anyone an advantage in mid-range combat, a solid hit could stun an opponent and a powerful strike might even break bones. The idea of using such a weapon had not occurred to Fi, he didn't particularly have a problem with it and thought it was an interesting tactic. Though he couldn't decide if the effective use would revolve more around speed or power.

"Now that's odd, most people don't train with weapons that large. Seems like you have a liking for it though, is a long reach the allure?"

He clapped the book shut as he came up beside the tree and watched any movements of the wooden weapon that were still going on. Fi respected the weapon but didn't notice the emblem on it quite yet. No judgements were made about the genin's clothing, Fi didn't dress normal by any means when compared to genin or older shinobi.

Yūku was just about to retrieve his fallen weapon when the sound of a voice roused him to alert. Cartwheeling over to the weapon and snatching it off the ground Yūku skidded backwards in defense only to realize that the person...wasn't a threat? "Huh...you startled me there. It hadn't taken Yūku long to adjust to the situation as in the next moment he was rubbing his chin as if honestly trying to think of a way to answer the question asked to him. "Not quite sure how to put it...I like it I guess. Kind of how you like your privacy," Yūku responded honestly. Of course, there was no way of knowing if he was right or not as his words were...loosely based on the fact that the guy was well, wrapped like a mummy!

Konohagakure for all its tourist friendly attractions and welcoming atmosphere, existed on the name of many Shinobi families forged throughout history. Prided on secrecy, Yūku wondered if perhaps the Senju family could have been slipping to the clutches of peace. He could tell nothing about the boy in front of him other than that they were probably around the same age, and yet there was no need to question his choice in profession. "Hey," Yūku began, facing the boy without thinking about the abnormal hue of his eyes. "Will you train with me?" Before the question completely left his mouth Yūku's left hand was raised in the half ram hand seal - the seal of confrontation.

"I suppose we all like something."

He raised his eyebrows and one would assume that he was smiling despite the majority of his face being covered. Fi took that comment as a rather odd thing to say but it was somewhat perceptive. That was the point that he noticed the emblem on the weapon signifying the young shinobi's tie to an important clan. Though he couldn't place the exact family that it came from, it was just one of those prominent symbols that anyone would know was important. Even though he couldn't put a finger on what clan it was he put it at the back of his mind that the person in front of him might be nobility of some kind.

It seemed he was running into more and more clan members with his wandering, perhaps it was a good thing to meet more people from different background. Diversification was the true goal that he wanted to seek, along that route he would have to meet people from all sorts of clans and different lands throughout the course of his life.

Fi pressed his hands together and gave a slight bow to introduce himself, as he had walked up on the other while they were quite busy. At the mention of a challenge he slipped into a more calm, stoic demeanor and took it quite seriously. He felt that out of the people he had met thus far that a master of the blade would be quite different to train against, it could give him some much needed knowledge about a specialist. "My name is Fi, happy to meet you in such a nice place. Name your terms."

When he rose from his bow his right hand formed the Seal of Confrontation while his right went inside of his coat, behind his back where he grabbed at a smoke grenade while he spoke and slowly removed it from the back while keeping his arm in the same place.

Fi. In so many words, he was an interesting if not strange individual. Young as they were, Yūku hardly believed that the boy had much reason to walk around hiding his identity - unless he'd come from a long line of targeted people and perhaps this was his way of staying safe! A true child in his youth, Yūku's imagination led him down the alleyways of many possibilities though in the end all were dismissed in favor of what he could understand; the present in its highest glory, the feeling of determination that ran through his body in anticipation of what was to come, and the green aura radiating from Fi as he formed his seal of confrontation. Before Fi could snake his hand throughout his outfit Yūku had thrown the Wooden Bokken with all his might toward the boy, darting forward while speaking the words, "We stop when one of us yields."

Just like he had practiced with Eiyasu, Yūku brought his hands up and began to weave a short succession of hand signs to channel his chakra. With the bokken still in air, now less than two meters away from Fi, Yūku intended to supplement his offensive with a technique that might have caught his opponent off guard. Still advancing forward in stride Yūku pulled his hands apart after forming the last seal; filling the space between was swirling mass of condensed chakra that appeared like a Shuriken, it was a Shuriken made of water! Propelling the Shuriken forward with his will Yūku watched with anticipation as the projectile made its way through the open space catching up to the Bokken in just a few short seconds.

Whether the Wooden bokken connected with its target or not did not matter as it was only used as a distraction; similar to the Water Shuriken, regardless of whether or not it actually collided with Fi was a nonfactor as upon getting within range of the boy was all that Yūku had wanted. Then, he would release the jutsu by way of Kai and cause the Shuriken to detonate violently - the explosion in itself being powerful enough to inflict damage if the boy was unfortunate enough to get caught by it. Conversely, had Fi attempted to advance forward at any point before the Shuriken had gotten to him then Yūku would create space by leaping away and detonate the technique prematurely hoping to catch him anyway.
Technique usedShow
Suiton • Water Shuriken
D-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will form a shuriken of water that can be thrown approximately 6 centimeters in diameter in their hand. When kai'd, this shuriken explodes with a force equal to a D-Rank explosion and covers the immediate area in water. If not consumed, this technique lasts for three posts.

Left? No, to the right.

Fi was sacrely able to finish his bow, forget getting a seal of confrontation from the other all ceremony seemed to have gone out the window. He didn't have much time to judge what was happening, he just reacted. The terms were simple, fight with all your strength, or so it seemed. Since he was already going for a smoke bomb he went with that plan. Instead of wasting time pulling it around his body he fell flat onto his back while pulling out the smoke bomb. So when his back hit the ground the smoke bomb would erupt and obscure him from vision. He began madly rolling to his right when he hit the ground, when he stopped just outside of the cloud he would have two new items in hand.

Since he fell onto his back he didn't have time to see the water shuriken technique but he did feel the destructive force that impacted with the bokken. The shuriken caught up at just about the same time that the weapon would have impacted into him. The destructive force impacted inside of the smoke cloud and served to widen the area of view that it hide, though it would dissipate quicker no doubt. He planted his right hand on the ground, a flashbang paper bomb was under it as he pushed himself to a crouched position. His feet were together and his knees bent. The right hand that hid the paper bomb had its' palm pressed to the ground and his left had a kunai at the ready. He head it in front of his body, pointed toward the opponent. He wasn't any worse for wear, this shinobi was fast but he was certain that he could keep up if he relied on his instincts.

Shinobi battle art relies upon deception, control what the enemy can see. Gather information and then strike. Ninjutsu type user, frontal assault strategy. Bait him.

The opponent had already used a water type jutsu, if Fi had stood to take it he would have been knocked for a loop and definitely at a disadvantage. Given that he reacted to the bokken and not the jutsu, he escaped more or less with a high pressure bath. His clothing was wet but he felt fine otherwise.

In the end, Fi was able to put what he had been reaching for to use which for Yūku meant that he had failed in his objective. Fortunately, the explosion resulting from his Mizu Shuriken had displaced the smoke just enough for Yūku to catch faint movement along the ground. There!Thought Yūku excitedly, noting that he ought to have learned from Fi's use of a smoke screen to hide his movements only - he didn't actually have any smoke bombs of his own. Clearly that would become a problem with the terrain as is; in so many words, it was time for a chance.

Still partially blocked by the smoke screen, Yūku made a mad dash for the forested section of the training grounds attempting to get out of sight as soon as possible. Once and if he were able to find a suitable hiding spot, he'd take the time to breathe, unwind himself and formulate a new plan."Come on Yūku you're a Shinobi now, think of something!" Under equipped and probably lacking in more than just that, Yūku was reluctant to stand and face the boy head on however, his speed and ability to performed seemed to just be above the bar which might have done him favors in ideal conditions. It was time to start thinking smarter and not harder; realistically he had been presented with a threat and an obvious solution - the question was however, how would he make his take down as clean and swift as possible?

Shinobi were always on the clock, always working. If confronted with an enemy that could not be taken down quickly then what? That was where Yūku found himself stuck....the Then what?

That was... strange? Not a bad idea but unexpected.

Fi had been prepared for a frontal assault and instead he head receding steps towards the wood line, the opponent had changed tactics immediately. He thought that he must have made an error in judgement, which wasn't a good thing in the slightest. At least this was just practice, he could afford to live and learn in this situation where on a real battlefield a bad call in judgement could be life and death. He didn't wait for the smoke to completely clear, when he heard receding footsteps he took off for the wood line in the other direction. Fi started forming hand seals as he made for the woodline and completed his jutsu just as he made it there. He dove behind a tree to use his Shock Double technique.

The clone took off, using the wood line for cover, at the highest speed that it was capable of and it didn't bother to avoid making a ton of noise. The clone would move as any shinobi during a forest movement. Fi lagged behind it by about 15 meters so that he wouldn't be easily seen at the same time as the clone. He expected that the opponent could have anything up their sleeve now from ninjutsu to traps. The forest could be a landmine for a competent opponent. The actual Fi tried to move more quietly than his counterpart, a regular kunai in one hand while a kunai with a ninja wire tied to the end was in the other hand. He kept his senses open and scanned the woods as his clone scouted for him, they moved towards the last known location of his opponent.

His plan was simple, location and then engage in the woods. Long range ninjutsu was at a disadvantage with dense trees. When there was cover every 3 meters or so it would be simple to dodge an attack like the water shuriken unless a trap was set for him. They had moved into a battlefield where he felt more confident and his energy reserve was doing fine too, he was only one technique into his chakra pool.

Often times Yūku had spoken highly of becoming a Shinobi, how it was the only thing that he wanted to do and now...he wasn't so sure. Heartbeat rising steadily, he looked to the left then to the right. As far as he could tell there was no one approaching but the animals he noticed, were all very frightened. Don't worry, thought Yūku as he stood firm, "No one's going to hurt you." Just then, the sound of breaking leaves caught his attention - the sound had come from pretty close too, maybe eight or so meters out. There wasn't much time left to make a decision on what to do and Yūku was pretty sure that rushing out into the open was a bad idea so he took cover inside of a nearby thicket as quickly and silently as he could; once positioned, Yūku wasted no time in channeling his chakra while peering beyond the obstruction.

The footsteps patted louder and louder but there was something else - listening harder Yūku could faintly hear the rhythmic beating of another set of feet. Just then, the source of the louder movements crossed into his field of view and Yūku's eyes narrowed. Holding his breath to quell any noise of breathing, he could still hear the approaching footsteps but more so now the sound of dry leaves being stepped on and an occasional twig snap. At a range, it seemed that Fi was skilled enough to quell his movements but they were still unrefined as a whole (something good damn it!). I won't be beaten so easily Yūku thought with a fire burning in his gut, the Senju blood within him beginning to rile.

Now that he had learned of his opponents tactics Yūku realized that he held a distinct advantage but this would only last if he played his cards just right. Having built up his Chakra for a full three minutes now, he focused only on the chakra points in his hand - flowing all of his built up chakra through his body to his hand and then to the ground where his will was then allowed to manifest. All that was left to do now...was sight his enemy. Maintaining his focus, Yuku prepared to mount his first offensive!

The clone continued moving on, scouting ahead. The master tied a flashbang tag to the kunai that had nothing attached to it.

It moved through the open areas and dense brush alike. The travel method it used was to move from tree to tree, it naturally lacked the skill that Fi had but it was a convincing double based on appearances. It moved along, the occasional sound that Yuku had picked up on was no illusion. As they continued along Fi kept looking around, the single file type of travel made it so that he had to watch his own back. He paid a good bit of attention too, he tried to look for any traps that his clone might have missed or any areas where the forest had been disturbed. He guessed that they hadn't gotten to the right area yet, though something seemed off. They were traveling in complete silence, no traps, no disturbances and no sign of being counter scouted. If it were him in this position he would have set some sort of trap or long range warning system or an ambush. They were all valid tactics that he needed to watch out for.

Fi began mentally going over the things that were wrong with the situation, one by one as he tried to make his own movements as quiet as possible. The distance between his clone and him underwent a slinky effect, sometimes as close as ten meters but never farther than fifteen meters while they traveled. It was just enough so that he would remain out of sight every time that his clone entered a clearing or would be seen. He looked up to ensure himself that there was no enemy lying in wait in the upper branches, his vision showed him nothing but a few birds in the trees.

The birds weren't chattering.

They only moved from side to side and stayed close to the trunks of the trees as if they were watching or waiting for something. He looked from branch to branch and saw that it wasn't just the birds near him, something wasn't quite right and they were on edge. Fi couldn't tell if that meant his opponent was in the same area or not but if the animals were on guard then he needed to be as well. He formed three quick handseals to empower the Kunai that had a wire tied to it with the elemental power of electricity. The shinobi had a plan about how to use it if things came down to an ambush.

At the time that he was forming the last seal for his jutsu would be the point that his clone moved into a clearing were Yuku would able to see him from his hiding place. The clone scanned the are and continued forward, moving towards the thicket were Yuku was without any knowledge of his presence in the area. The clone was just exploring the area, searching but had no way to know Yuku's position.

One, two, three! Fi's clone would not get the chance to take a fourth forward step as a Mokuton bi-pedal sprouted up from the ground with a vengeance! It's wooden fists balled and veering toward the boy with unerring viciousness threatening to smash the clone's face in only to swiftly follow up with a secondary hook that may have just sent the clone back from whence it came. He had not the experience of his elder brothers but Yuku's proficiency in his class secret Ninjutsu was already beginning to show - coupled with a strange Kekkek Genkai of unfamiliar origin even within the clan it would seem as though his fate may have been preordained. Even if he were able to dispatch the clone Yuku would not have revealed his location by emerging so soon; he knew better than to let hubris guide him and thus, waited out the feint sound that he had heard before. Slowly but skillfully, the boy crawled backwards and out of the thicket only to roll rightward several feet away as if he were some kind of barrel in flight. However, he'd made an error in this movement as a twig snapped under his weight. No! With no time to think he leapt from his prone position and sprung into a full fledged run; he was certain that there was no point in hiding now, his best bet was to find the masked boy before he found d him.

In his flight he caught the sound of buzzing...like electricity churning from some kind of generator. "Found you!" He thought leaping from beyond the foliage straight into the battle ground with kunai raised in a lunge. Breaking through he would attack Fi directly and attempt to force a close quarters Battle right there on the spot. "Looking for me," exclaimed the senju as he fell from the air using gravity to enhance the power of his downward slice movement.

Fi's clone tried to guard against the first attack, only managing to keep its' footing. Then the hook finished it quickly, though the advantage to using Raiton was made quite apparent. As soon as the hook connected, Fi's clone would explode with electrical force equal to a paperbomb. While the not most powerful explosion it was still likely to injure a clone that was made of both earth and water elements in a custom combination. Blood line traits were quite powerful, on the level of demi-gods when their versatility was considered in the hands of a competent user but they still fell victim to the weaknesses of the sum of their parts.

Fi stopped short when he saw his clone engaged, the exchange was near instant and the experience was transferred back to the clone's maker. Then he was immediately sneak attacked by the senju, quite direct and effective with the distraction that had been set up. He threw the Kunai with the flash bang straight up into the air so that he could have a free hand to grab the wire attached to his electrified kunai, much lower down so that he could control the slack. He jumped back and away, not wanting to clash with a powerful attack head on after seeing that his opponent was quite strong physically. However, he couldn't get away free and clear with the senju's sudden appearance. His left arm, currently the weapon holding one, received a long scratch and the blue coat that he wore had separated. Had the fabric been dry it might have done more to deter the weapon and give him room to shift but wet clothing that clung to him made a much easier mark.

He jumped back enough to put a few feet between them, so he didn't have to break off the engagement. Rather he was willing to fight after the initial. With renewed caution he blankly threw the electrified kunai forward and let the wire slide through the grip of his other hand, it had been a while but he assumed a tactic like this would be potent with the chakra he used earlier.

When the masked Shinobi had thrown a Kunai straight up above his head, Yūku had made a mental note to remember it. He hadn't seen exactly what was attached to the weapon but for it to not be used against him in a direct way he'd only assumed that it may have been for some kind of a set up. Just as he'd gained his footing Fi jumped away and effectively halted what Yūku had initially planned to do. Running away huh? The thought seemed satisfying but Yūku had known better. He'd confirmed that the boy was up to something once he'd launched a wired Kunai knife toward him instead of using the now falling Kunai from earlier.

With a grunt of effort Yūku side stepped to the right of the incoming wired Kunai and snapped his right hand leftward in an attempt to literally cut the cord of the Kunai and steal the weapon for himself. What he didn't know was that the thread had been infused with Raiton elemental chakra that channeled itself through the metal edge of his own blade but did not electrocute him thanks to the rubber like material wrapped around the pommel of the weapon. As the now un-wired Kunai dropped to the ground cut off from a chakra conductor, Yūku picked it up quickly and hurled it toward Fi with all the might he could muster and as straight as he could manage from a crouched position. Frankly, he didn't expect the Kunai to impact its target but he had hoped that it would delay the boy from advancing or weaving any hand seals while he anticipated what might have happened with the earlier thrown kunai knife.

What's he scheming? Yūku thought to himself, careful to not be in the trajectory of the falling weapon. What was his sparring partner's next move?

Fi made a single seal with one of his hands as he moved out of the way of the kunai, it was thrown a bit haphazardly from that position. While it wasn't exactly ideal that Yuku picked it up Fi wasn't intending to hit him with it out of the blue in the first place. In fact the random charge wasn't at all what he had predicted, Yuku was making a habit of rashly moving from one strategy to the next. In fact the crouch limited his mobility quite a bit, he still hadn't stood up by the time Fi moved out of the way of the kunai.

"Now!"

Fi moved forward and channeled chakra into the single-handed seal. Normally all it was good for was focusing chakra, which was exactly what he needed in that moment. Just a slight bit of energy to set off the flash bomb as the knife was coming back down. It was in a position that was behind Fi and would go off while it was still high in the air. The blinding light enveloped the area near instantly but because of his positioning Fi wasn't looking at it and was casting a shadow over his own face that intensified as the bomb dropped.

He made quite a noise with his yell and ran at his opponent, stopping short of where he guessed that Yuku could reach with his sword. If the boy played true to his impulsive nature he would strike out or run. If he struck out them stopping short would give him an advantage to dodge an already disoriented or blinded opponent. If Yuku ran then he'd be turning his back on an opponent and become several times easier to deal with. Fi felt like he had to get inside the boy's head if he had any chance of approaching him head on. The crouched position that Yuku took, combined with the position of the flashbang should be all the distraction that he reasonably needed to perform the true function of shinobi battle arts... and all martial art for that matter. Deception.

Yūku was impressed with his opponents ability to adapt on such short notice, dodging the Kunai that had been thrown and weaving a single hand seal without missing a beat. He was also perturbed by the development as it meant that he'd been unable to hinder or slow down his adversary in the slightest: Fi was quite literally forcing Yūku to think on his toes, controlling the flow of battle. He barely had enough time to weave through his own sequence of short hand seals when the first glimmers of white light began flashing in the skies just overhead. Now, during Fi's charge Yūku realized what the purpose of the Kunai knife was for. But he wasn't about to go down without putting up a fight!

Slamming his hands into the ground he poured his chakra into it, exercising precision in control far beyond that of a standard Genin. Less than a second later, the ground began to rumble and just twelve inches from where he had placed his hands - the Earth actually started to rise. Where there had previously been nothing, now stood a solid wall constructed of the elements. Three meters tall, three meters wide, and one meter thick the wall served as a shield between Yūku, his opponent, and the blinding light which had now permeated from the sides of the wall Earth formation. Without so much as a second thought he'd closed his left hand and channeled what Chakra he could into it knowing that his opponent wouldn't be giving him much time, if any, to take advantage of the temporary refuge from his assault. Yūku had only ever fought Eiyasu and Li in training once or twice, he wasn't used to constantly shifting situations whereas Fi was a reactionary force all his own.

I won't be able to win this battle, he reasoned. However, at least he could put up a decent fight before the inevitable came to pass. When Fi broke through the wall or attempted to flank it, Yūku would hit him with the quickest Jutsu that he could manifest. A small thing when scale was considered but effective nonetheless. Ready to be thrown at a moments notice in Yūku's left hand was a small seed roughly the size of a walnut. What it lacked in flare it made up for in effectiveness as Fi was soon about to find out.

Perhaps Fi had been more than correct to stop short, if he had been intending to move full tilt instead of bait a motion he would have been colliding with or standing on top of a large earthen wall. As it stood he quickly spun around and put his back to the wall, forming hand seals simple ones that he knew well. At this point any plan was out of the question and he had to go into reaction mode. Much like in basic taijutsu you would be taught to move in close after you analyzed the opponent, getting the most safety by making it hard for them to move. Then you strove to put them off balance or make them over commit while you were too close for their tactic to truly be effective. Then you struck, full force and without regret to gain the upperhand.

He finished and moved around the right side of the wall, from his position with his back to it. Coming around it full force and without worry as he was well within his limits to accomplish was came next. His right hand was out in front ready to intercept while his left was behind him, poised with a freshly drawn kunai from his bag. Fi's mind went blank and his eyes widened, there was nothing in his world except that which interacted with him directly. The wall was forgotten, the cat and mouse game through the woods was a distant memory. He no longer saw the woods in his mind, only the distance between him and his goal.

He could smell sulfur, the kind that flared brightly after a little friction and easily lit a matchstick. It was comforting though a figment of his imagination, a remnant of what he could not let go of yet. Though it brought no panic or menacing demeanor, it simply was.

The opponent was not his goal, the opponent did not exist. The only goal in mind was a simple movement, the first thing that had ever happened during his time in the old squad when sparring began. He could see it in his mind, his focus immediately going out to it as he detailed the bark and leaves without the need to look directly at it. Fi came around that corner hard, his right foot came up sharply as if he were trying to high-kick immediately as he came around the wall without any regard for defense. in that moment.

Jutsu prepared for activation.

*[Basic Jutsu • Change of Body Stance Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After completing the necessary handseals, the user is able to quickly substitute his/her body with a nearby object that is at least 2/3rds his/her size, but no bigger than their body. This substitution allows the object to take the force of the attack that was meant for the user, additionally allowing the user to create distance between him/her and the opponent. The object used in this jutsu may not be objects that are imbued with chakra or controlled by it, and they may also only be single, solid objects within a 20 yard radius of the user. This technique may only be used a total of one time in a single thread, give or take how many times Shunshin no Jutsu has already been used.

Shhk Shhk shhk.

Yūku could hear Fi's footsteps with a blaring clarity; he'd given up stealth in favor of whatever strategy he had planned it seemed. For a moment Yūku had wondered exactly what was going through the masked boy's head as he charged; perhaps he'd believed himself to have won the battle and that was why he'd abandoned all previous tactics of careful preparation and action. It was strange, really. Although he'd gotten the feeling that something were off Yūku didn't quite understand why.

Shhk shhk shhhk.

Fi was closer now. In his hand Yūku knew he'd held the answer to stop the young boy's charge but in his heart he'd been reluctant to use it; the mini-walnut like seed had grown to be the size of a tennis ball as the natural life force was strengthened by its exposure to the elements. What should I do? Yūku thought, searching his mind for an answer that his heart had already found. The footsteps stopped! He realized, springing into action immediately afterward; jamming the enlarged Bakuhatsu nut into the Earth formation. He had been ignorant to Fi planting his back against the wall but had he known, Yūku wouldn't have lept back one meter away and kai'd the Bakuhatsu nut causing it to release its energy in an explosion that seemed much greater than a standard Paper bomb (+2 strength on top of the D-rank explosion per Mokuton passive).

In an instant the rock wall was blown apart, its force more than enough to knock someone off their feet; the thundering boom deafening even to Yūku who had expected it. However, the worst part were the chunks of rock that had been blown all over the place with enough force to knock someone out if they'd impacted the right place on the body. Yūku had been forced to shield himself with his arms suffering bruises and cuts - apparently, he hadn't jumped far enough to be left out of the impact range but he wasn't even sure if he'd actually managed to hit his target. A cloud of dust erupted from the blast area spanning a nine foot diameter. Through it all, Yūku had but one question: "Is he alright?"

The explosion was not expected.

Fi didn't realize how wise he had been when he prepared that technique, any other choice would have left him down for the count in that moment. However, the explosion triggered his substitution technique. In his state of absolute intent and focus he turned into an element of the explosion, his technique protected him and allowed him to switch places with a section of a tree. The log that switched places with him was of the same approximate size as his body complete with an abandoned bird's next. The switch had triggered inside of the explosion so it was doubtful that anyone would actually notice until after the blast radius cleared. The resulting loss of hearing was perfect, the grandest stage that anyone could ask for to make their great escape. Fi's intent was focused, honed, only one thing remained in his mind.

He had been trying to come around the wall and ready his attack when it had suddenly blown apart, the ringing was still in his ears when he switched places with the intended object. The origin of the object was a section of the tree that was about twenty feet up above and slightly behind the wall. The switch left him in mid-air, raising his leg as he fell towards the ground. He could feel his heartbeat, his blood slowly coursing through his body as his focus lowed the scene down to a near halt for him. The distance between his heartbeats were almost that of a flatline. With his left leg raised in position for an heal strike, straight out and up in front of his body, he fell with the intent to sneak attack Yuku from not only behind but above.

The substitution technique had triggered when the wall exploded, throwing debris and a shockwave out around it. With the timing of his switch he struck out, full force and swung his leg down to impact with yuku's shoulder from the back. He leaned forward after the initial thrust, putting his weight into the movement so that he could follow through with the kick cleanly. By the time he threw his weight forward, into the swinging motion of the downward kick he'd have drawn the kunai out from around his back, easily ready to use in his right hand as a defensive weapon.

When the dust had finally settled and his visibility returned, Yūku was surprised to see that Fi had been nowhere around. He wondered if the combination had been a bit - excessive but soon regretted his doubts as a heavy weight found itself pressing down on his right shoulder, a sharp pain following immediately after. Fi's strike had landed clean with its target and Yūku collapsed immediately. "Urgh!" He grunted. He'd lost the sliver of a chance he had of turning this contest around, at least for now. Yūku had to admit that Fi was definitely better prepared for battle than he was right now and the Senju didn't try making excuses. He'd lost, fair and square. "You're not exactly light you know?"

After impacting he pushed off and away, performing a backflip to create space.

Unless Yuku had said something he would have kept going but the words of his sparring partner called him out of the lethal mode that his mind had entered. He straightened up and put the kunai away, sighing in relief as he blinked a few times. After putting the kunai away he walked over, stepping over a bit rubble from the other's explosion. While he hadn't done any lasting damage he definitely floored Yuku with that last movement and he was grateful, from there it was only going to keep getting more intense. Fi reasoned that it was actually a good stopping point before either of them became too heated or pushed the limits of what the other could handle in terms of lethal force. Afterall, a literal hand grenade wasn't the normal weapon that a genin packed around, that indicated a superb level of chakra for any shinobi at their rank.

"Well, I have been lying around alot. Seems reasonable that I'm out of shape. Thankyou for allowing me to win."

Fi crossed over and made the peace symbol that was meant to end a shinobi's challenge. He held it and waited for Yuku to take it so that he could help him up. Fi was completely confident that the boy could still move.
