Preparation for the festival

He'd still been asleep when the notice arrived. None the wiser to a sparrow pecking away at the glass separating it from the Silver-haired Jounin. Tink tink tink. Just let me lay here, Gene thought. Tink tink tink! Come on, go away. TINK TINK TINK *CRACK* Rolling over, Gene groaned sounding like a mummy then yawned helplessly. "Damn it...what is it?" The sparrow had pecked the glass so hard that the material had actually cracked from the outside. Fortunately, there were two layers so the damage hadn't spread further than a half a millimeter. Persistant little thing aren't you? Thought Gene as he opened the window allowing the bird to fly in, circling the room before landing lightly on his desk. There was a single tan strip of paper wrapped by a blue ribbon affixed to its back - the black Hidden leaf insignia present on the ribbon's vertical axis. "What time is it?" Gene asked, but the bird simply tilted its head and stared with a look that gave away its indifference. Sighing, Gene approached the bird and with one motion loosened the ribbon and picked up the letter.

Reading the message, he smiled. Not even a moment later he'd already taken out a piece of paper and began writing his reply; tying it to the bird once he'd finished. Once the bird had flown off bounding out of the window headed for Konoha's messenger bird tower, Gene plopped with a loud thud back into his bed and folded both arms behind his head. Inhaling slowly, he held the breath before letting out a loud YOSHH! Allowing his eyes to fall shut he'd drifted back off into a deep slumber; one thought echoing in his head.

Thank the heavens I get to sleep in!

Gene had almost forgotten what it was like to get a full nights rest and often spent the wee hours of night tossing and turning from dreams turned to nightmares or working late. Now, in light of a special day for the village and its people all work had been excused. Everyone, Shinobi and civilian alike were given the day off along with an invitation to attend an event hosted by the Akimichi clan. A great feast the likes of which he'd only ever witnessed once; the festivities leaving no face un turned as good cheer was allowed to spread far and wide throughout the region. It'd been one of many wonders that his Mother enjoyed particularly while she lived and Gene shared the sentiment. Gene's father, Ken, had always ate until he could see his own belly popping from beyond his shirt and as a child Gene couldn't help but scold him. Now, he was a man and lived all on his own - things were different but he still strove to recapture the happiness of his youth.

Still sleeping soundly Gene rolled over onto his side and uttered the words: "Festi..val" Without a doubt, today would be an interesting one indeed.
