Since his battle with the Hokage two weeks ago Gene had not ceased in his training of both mind and body. Being able to fight against such a frightening adversary left a lot to be considered on his own behalf but more than that, it left Gene with an unquenchable thirst for battle that he didn't register before - like a drug of the highest quality, he found bliss in testing his mettle. From Kazuo Inuzuka, Zao of the ventriloquist style and now Takeo Natsuki, Gene couldn't help but grow excited at the thought of taking on even stronger adversaries. Of course that meant he would have to continue upping the anti in own capabilities as well; conditioning his mind, body and soul to the utmost limits and beyond!

So what did our silver haired friend do? Why the only sensible thing of course! Early in the morning before the sun kissed the skies, Gene (with the help of quite a few Shadow clones) took to the streets of Konoha and broadcast yet another training seminar! Only there would be no dojo's and fancy levels this time or restrictions based upon Taijutsu. No! This particular session was an anything goes, no holds barred, no trick too tricky and last but not least, all inclusive Shinobi Kumite notice for Ninja and Kunoichi of all ranks, ages and abilities. After all, the most successful and skilled Shinobi was the most versatile and in Gene's eyes versatility was key! Not only would he be forcing himself to adapt to the varying styles of the many opponents to come but he would have to make snap judgments on the fly!

Sure, there were some...doubts about having such a wide scale training session but he believed that it would be good overall. Though given the scope of what he had been trying to do, the training grounds had to be moved outside of the village for the safety of the villagers. No holds barred meant that some pretty high level techniques could be used and frankly, an S-rank jutsu anywhere near village limits was not a good idea. On the other hand, there were plenty of sign posts set up to guide people to the training region if they so chose to get involved though it wasn't encouraged for bystandards to linger for too long. So! What exactly was the setting?

Approximately twenty miles away from Konoha, the region of battle was pretty simplistic by a natives standards. Incredibly large trees and plenty of grassland that gave way to a large River running North; hills and mountains, small ravines and other such things were also present but were spaced roughly five or so miles from one another. Gene would make his arrival to the training grounds around noon after taking the time to sleep and pack some essentials following the early morning posting of notices everywhere - literally EVERYWHERE in the village.

"Ay...I might have overdone it a bit." Leaning up against a sign post with his arms folded Gene smiled, "Nah." He held hope that those wanting to improve themselves would find their way out to where he could offer hands on experience in the many ways of battle and in turn, develop his own fighting style. After two or three minutes of waiting Gene eventually found himself performing varying stretches to loosen up his body while the chance presented itself. Nothing screamed amateur louder than catching a cramp right before a work out and he was sure that he would regret it later if he didn't bother to nimble up now.

Tenzin couldn't sleep past 5am since he has been teaching for some time, his body makes him wake up early in the morning... well relatively early. He did his normal routine for his week off. He made himself some tea, got fully dressed, and simply sat outside of his house. It was a nice day and he knew his sister would sleep for a few more hours before going to train with her friends. As Tenzin was enjoying the peace and quiet as the morning rolled on he heard a very familiar voice. He made his way to the village where he heard Gene's voice talking about a training session. He heard the announcement from Gene and before he could engage, he heard another announcement by a figure with the same voice as Gene. He looked a little bit further and noticed that there was two Genes!??!?! It took a second for him to snap his fingers as a moment of clarity. 'Ah, must be a few shadow clones about' he thought as he made his way through the village. He was already dressed and ready when he received the verbal information from one of the clones. Tenzin became excited that he would see his newish friend. They had some weird encounters together: once was with an intruder which resulted in being a false alarm and the next was a intriguing conversation that ended with Gene scarfing down meat pies and a bar fight. Overall, Tenzin enjoyed the presence of this shinobi and figured that if he was holding a training session then it would be an unique experience.

"Excuse me" Tenzin politely said as he walked through the crowd of Konoha. 'Ugh, the location is pretty far.... I wonder why it is such an excursion.' He thought as he started to make his way towards the destination. It was not the easiest path either. Tenzin figured he could save some time if he ran through the forest and swam down a few rivers. By doing this, he also saved a little bit of energy. However, 20 miles was far and for someone who isn't in the field as much (due to teaching) he is not in the greatest shape he could be.

After several hours of a combination of traveling and resting, Tenzin eventually got to the site that was mentioned by one of genes clones. He was a bit tired, but it was definitely a good way for Tenzin to get the blood pumping. He made his way up to a little stretch of land where there was a clear opening. Around the area were a lot of trees and beautiful landscapes (mountains in the background along with the bodies of water). Tenzin made his way a 30 or so minutes after Gene would have. He walked up in hopes to spot Gene and possibly some others in the area.

By the time Gene had finished his stretches the sound of rustling caught his ear and to his surprise it was"Tenzin?! Yo! Gene hollered, his Auburn hues fixed to the Academy instructor. "You look like you've had a tough time." It was hard to miss Tenzin's slightly labored breaths and Gene wondered for the second time if he'd gone too far with his choice in venue. However, the thought was dismissed shortly after it had come when he thought about the purpose of what he'd been trying to do. Anyone wishing to seek out and train effectively with him would have had to first overcome an unspoken challenge: the terrain.

Hiking up and around hills, inclines and uneven surfaces while battling the heat, dehydration, fatigue and more would push most people to their limits and if that were the case then they weren't truly ready to endure what demon awaited them when the trek was over. "Here, have a water." Bending down, Gene snagged a water bottle up from a small black bag and tossed it toward his colleague. "If you're here for what I think you are then you'll need this."

Tired, hot, thirsty were all immediate feelings upon reaching the openning. Tenzin was very tired from his travel. He didn't expect to be that far. He traveled through the lush forests, flowing rivers, all while fighting the cloudless sky and its beating sun. By the time he got up he was pooped to say the least. However, a familiar voice shouted which caused Tenzin to perk up. He hadn't heard of this voice since he was in Konoha hours ago. He turned to his friend and listened as he teased him about the rough time. He looked at gene and was surprised that he didn't look beaten down at all. He was a very exceptional shinobi and skilled in combat along with survival. So it was no surprised that he was in tip top shape and expertly prepared. Tenzin gave a little half smile while he placed his left hand on his hip and his right arm behind his head letting his hand rest on the back of his head. "Hah, nice to see you too Gene! Yeah, it wasn't a cake walk but it could of been a lot worse". Tenzin considered him and gene friends, and knew that if this was an opportunity for him to get better in taijutsu... then this was definitely something he needed.

He made his was forward to greet his friend and as he got a bit closer noticed Gene throw a water to him. Without hesitation Tenzin caught it and drank some of it. He had been drinking water during the voyage, but didn't account for what would he would be doing after. He placed the rest of the water in his ninja pouch and folded his arms while he looked at Gene. "It is a beautiful day for some training." He made this comment in attempt to show that he was ready for whatever Gene was going to throw at him. Tenzin had already been training himself and had a few ideas on how to increase his power on his own. However, Taijutsu was not his strongest skill set; so increasing his speed, power, or even his taijutsu knowledge would only better him as a ninja.

Tenzin took a mental note of what Gene said "If you're here for what I think you are then you'll need this." Tenzin nodded towards him after those words were spoken and was truly ready for what Gene had to offer. Tenzin looked around to see if any stragglers would come along after him before he looked back at Gene. "Are you expecting anyone else?"

Gene did not respond to Tenzin's question immediately and instead thought carefully about his answer. It wasn't like the location where the two now met had been a closely guarded secret, Gene had spent the better part of half the morning trying to get the word out for someone to take heed and attend but the fact was that few Shinobi would have actually made the attempt. Granted, Gene wasn't exactly known for his gentle nature nor was he viewed as the most sociable of personalities compared to others in the village and the possibility that his advertising had been ignored out right wasn't lost on him. "To be honest I'm honestly surprised you even showed up this far out. If no one had come within the next thirty minutes or so I would have begun training on my own," Gene finally admitted.

"Twenty miles out from the village is no easy trek but I've got a good reason behind it." By now Gene had been walking toward a grassy clearing, abandoning the bag full of water as well as the sign post he'd been standing near without so much as a second thought. "I can't go all out when I have to keep looking over my shoulder making sure no Genin or civilians are in the way," just five meters from where he started, Gene came to a grinding halt. A single glance over his right shoulder had then been preceded with "You coming?"

Once and if Tenzin decided to follow suit Gene would continue. "Once you've limbered up we'll jump right into some light sparring to warm up a bit."

Tenzin was rather shocked to hear that Gene didn't really expect anyone to come. He could tell right away that this was not going to be like one of Tenzin's normal training session he had with younger students. Normally his objective was to get them to learn new things and try to practice them as a whole. Here he could tell that Tenzin might be tested on his limit and try to exceed it completely.

Tenzin watched Gene as he began making his way forward. He was taken back a bit to Gene turning around and asked "You coming?" Tenzin couldn't help but react with a normal response: "Of course". Tenzin followed Gene and made his way to be a few steps behind him. Although he as a little bit tired, he knew it would be a great time to practice and get stronger. Who knew where his career would go after his teaching career. Tenzin was fully excited to train, however had a few doubts in his mind the second Gene said the words "Light Sparring". "Oh no" Tenzin thought as they made their way forward. Tenzin thought that he was considerably fast and strong for someone of his rank, but when it came down to taijutsu Tenzin was not the greatest.

While in doubtful state of mind, Tenzin snapped his head up with eagerness. This would be like all of those ninjutsu trainings he has spent doing on his own, but instead of focusing on his strengths.. He would actually be able to focus on his weakness. Then again, as a whole, Tenzin was overthinking this completely. "It's just a spar...... What's the worst that could happen?"

Tenzin had followed Gene to the grass clearing. He did some normal stretching, but physically he was already warmed up after the 20 mile voyage to the location. After alternating and lifting his legs to stretch them out and stretching his arms, he looked at Gene. Tenzin felt prepared and ready, a bit tired, but ready. He made sure to think before speaking, considering once in a while he would say something dumb here and there. "Ready when you are!"

Gekido wa kai While Tenzin stretched Gene mentally noted the distance between himself and the instructor, Four meters. He imagined that the short distance may have filled his training partner with a sense of comfort & perhaps even a moments peace in order to conceptualize whatever strategies the young man may have employed but for Gene it was just the calm before the storm. Despite Gene himself only being a single year older than Tenzin he carried with him the demeanor of one who had already accepted death and by extension, rejected fear. Standing before the young instructor with eyes sharpened like daggers was not a Teenager but a machine with an objective.

Troubled not by heat―blinded not by light, he was the embodiment of a shadow. In rehearsed sequence Gene's extremities executed their role flawlessly, serving only to fuel the machine. His left hand snaking around behind him finding refuge upon the handle of the Tanto just above his waist; each finger were as hounds salivating, curling rhythmically in excitement and anticipation of what was to come. Despite this eagerness Gene's entire right arm appeared slack, dangling between legs spread shoulder length apart nonchalantly almost as if welcoming Tenzin to try striking him down.

In response to Tenzin's proclamation, the audible shriek of steel gliding free of its sheath. Clearly there'd been a disconnect between the two Ninja as one embodied what the other claimed and seemed even more willing to demonstrate his dedication to the cause; undoubtedly in a classroom Tenzin would have held every conceivable advantage ― among the young and naive, where books and rehearsed material reigned supreme. But out in the wilderness a new kind of structure dominated: Survival of the fittest. Having stood against beasts the likes of which no book had ever documented on three separate occasions, fought men and women who's power brought into question one's hold on reality and lived to tell the tale Gene questioned just how ready someone relegated to a building could be.

Purposefully leaving his entire torso open as a target and his weapon behind him, Gene had already begun playing a psychological game with his opponent. Seasoned fighters without question would have assumed Gene's 'guard' or lack thereof as blatant disregard to their capabilities wherein a less perceptive foe might have thought nothing of it. In either accord Tenzin had been presented with two very clear choices from this act of readiness: Attack or hesitate. Perceptive and intuitive, Gene would pick up on any efforts made with weak resolve and crush them in their entirety.

Interestingly enough there existed a paradox within Gene's overbearing intent and that was the headband bound firmly across his forehead. The insignia worn proudly and properly, was the beacon of commodore and shared struggle between them as well as the highest sign of Respect if ever there was such a thing among Jounin. It meant that no matter how intense the sparks of their blades or ferocity at which they fought, when all was said and done the two were a family and the murder of family was absolute taboo. Today limits wouldn't be pushed....

they'd be broken.

Blue sparks began to Emanate from the Silver-haired Jounin warping around his form like a whip causing the damp grass beneath his feet to dry immediately, burning holes where lightning had lashed out and adding an eerie glow to the immediate area. Akin to the phenomena enveloping his body, the electricity had also formed a baseball sized sphere within Gene's previously empty right hand. Now, every muscle in his body had been stimulated and the same could be said for his nerves. Both his perception and immediate reaction capabilities in this moment were heightened significantly and as a result, catching the Jounin off guard from here forward would prove to be extremely difficult and even more problematic, so would attacking the male head on.

'Hmph, light sparring my ass' Tenzin thought while he noticed Gene getting into what seemed like a taijutsu stance. For a brief moment watched the area around Gene change suddenly. He took a quick notice of the surge surrounding him. Tenzin, being well versed in elemental ninjutsu took a note about the currents around him. He also noted that the shinobi had his hand behind his back, which could only mean he would be using the jutsu around him for defense and possibly have a counter option available in case Tenzin did a head on assault. It was clear to Tenzin, that he shouldn't touch Gene at all. He didn't know if the jutsu would cause him harm, like the fire armor he could place onto himself. Tenzin also had seen Gene's taijutsu in action, he was able to hold down a man that could alter space and time itself. Tenzin knew he was out classed, but he also could see that right at the moment they started Gene had put an emphasis on his Raiton abilities.

There was only worry Tenzin had, what else can Gene do? He knew his best course of action would be to counter his Raiton style with it's Superior, but does he know more than one element? Was this a bait for Tenzin to relay wind style for only Gene to counter it? With only seconds going by, Tenzin figured out what the best course of action would be. With a quick decision, he thought it would be best to use both Fuuton and Suiton to attack. He wanted to see if Gene had other capabilities other than great Taijutsu and powerful Raiton techniques. It was clear that Fuuton would be his attacking and defending ninjutsu, but he would attempt to apprehend his "opponent" with what increases the strength of Raiton just in case Gene has an ace up his sleeve. With that decision he thought maybe it would be best to try a quick tactic to maybe get lucky and apprehend him.

Within seconds of Gene sending his Raiton infused chakra around his body, Tenzin also began flowing chakra throughout his body. Once the Raiton around Gene was very clear, Tenzin weaved the hand signs required to release his jutsu. In split moment the wind around him moved abnormally, making his clothing move before the wind formed in front of him. The wind itself created a perfect clone of Tenzin and he stood right in front of him. "GO!" he told the clone, which caused him to make his way forward attempting to make a direct attach at Gene. Tenzin stayed right where he was, letting the clone run forward. However, once the clone appeared he had already started forming his chakra and was ready to form the next jutsu. The clone made only steps in front of him, making his way right in the face of Gene to attempt to make a frontal forward attack. Depending on how Gene reacts to this will allow Tenzin to hopefully finish his first tactic to subdue him.

Opening up with Wind style, huh? The cloud watcher's eyes narrowed as if trying to an imaginary sand storm from blinding him, he realized immediately that there stood a chance he'd actually be at a disadvantage from the get go. He's adjusted to ranged combat in addition to using Lightning style's counter element in response to my Armour...Besides that he got a good look at my Taijutsu a while back so I doubt he'll be taking many chances. Gene studied the Wind elemental body closely and instead of belittling the doppelganger for its incredibly slow rate of movement, he mentally cringed.

"Alright, here goes!" With the clone now upon him Gene would have no choice but to play his responses by ear; if he could manage to at least read into Tenzin's battle strategy a little bit then a suitable answer would come to him in response, but would his training partner give him the opportunity? Though he'd put up a tough front the Cloud watcher was not oblivious to the fact that his friend was a Jounin and younger than himself at that - whatever tricks of the trade that he'd learned before becoming an instructor likely would come into play. Pace yourself...Don't get carried away, noted Gene to himself.

Without lifting his weapon higher than his waist, Gene rotated the Tanto in his hand pointing its edge toward the incoming clone as preparing for quick jab. Using his lead foot as a spring point he then lunged forward, careful to use only a third of his true speed (15) in order to maintain proper control over the movement, gauge his timing, and ensure that what he intended to do wouldn't backfire too much in the event of failure. Just as the clone were about to strike him Gene suddenly shifted rightward (to the left of the clone) pulling the weapon back while simultaneously using his non leading foot in an attempt to sweep the clones legs out from under it - potentially creating a situation where the clone had been temporarily suspended if successful. Had his feint maneuver worked, Gene would then attempt to take full advantage of the clone's airborne state to slam his right hand down above the clone's naval, a move that would transfer the electrically charged sphere of chakra in his right hand to the clone before it fell to the ground.

At that point in the clone's descent had all other actions transpired as intended, Gene would continue in his forward advance leaving the Wind elemental body behind where the Raiton chakra could then do its job - clearing the 'obstruction' in a violent explosion akin to a Paper bomb after some localized paralysis. All in all, the three step improvised combination though simple, highlighted both Gene's combat readiness in Taijutsu and his ability to create his own unorthodox fighting style without losing out to rigid stances or other refined maneuvers. On the other hand...if things didn't quite go over well he'd been fully prepared to use his weapon as a defense in order to at least detract from some of the damage he would have taken as a result of a botched counter attack. The feint in end of itself provided a quick shift in position to a forward assaulting adversary as well as the looming threat psychologically of being stabbed by a sharp object. It was unknown how exactly the clone would handle the situation but at the very least Gene's attempt may have made things more difficult for the doppelganger.

Taking down the clone as quickly as possible in as less revealing a way as possible was the objective; Gene didn't want to run the risk of exposing his combat arts to his opponent so soon and by extension, making Tenzin's job of adaptability that much easier. Gene's Raiton Armour was still active and provided he were able to continue closing the distance between himself and Tenzin he intended on putting it to full use in order to force the younger Jounin into a Taijutsu confrontation.

The battle of Steel and mind was finally underway.

Overall, the clone could not keep up with Gene's speed and maneuvers. The clone would attempt to block his attacks, but the clone would simply succumb to Genes superior speed and maneuvers. He attempted to strike back as he swept his legs with a side kick. The clone knew that his combat was inferior, but he tried to stall Gene as long as possible. In the grand scheme the clone was only the first stage of Tenzin's tactic, and so far it was working perfectly. Tenzin watched for a split second while Gene engaged with the clone. It seems that Gene was going to fight with his strengths, which only made sense. However, Tenzin now only hoped that Gene was more focused on the clone than himself.

When Gene engaged with the clone and moved to his right, this is when Tenzin weaved his hand signs. Tenzin watched as his clone got an utter beat down and simply thought 'Mental note to stay at medium range at all times...' After he swiftly finished the hand signs, Tenzin witnessed his clone was up in the air. Assuming that Gene's eyes and attention was facing up towards the clone while he pummeled him, Tenzin decided that this was the best time to release the second part of his tactic. Without hesitation, Tenzin released his jutsu. Upon Tenzin releasing the Jutsu, the clone had been slammed to the ground. When the clone was slammed to the ground he would poof with some wind around his body leaving a small gust of wind near him, but not anything damaging. Within seconds of the ball being formed. With one motion a large ball of water expelled out 3m in diameter. Since they were only 4m away, it was no secret that the ball was formed extremely near Gene as a whole. This left hopefully a small window to send the orb of water at a speed of 20 at Gene. If this technique was successful, then the orb would engulf Gene and render him incapable of moving temporarily. If the jutsu missed as a whole Tenzin would load up his chakra and prepare for another strike, which would alter his tactic slightly.

He was aware of Gene's capabilities hence why he is staying at a medium range. The jutsu would be sent in his direction, however immediately after Tenzin loaded up his chakra again and had it forming within him. He knew that whether or not Gene got caught or not, he had to be prepared to utilyze another jutsu. With that in mind, Tenzin got himself into a fighting position with his chakra loaded up, ready for anything that would happen next.

Jutsu UsedShow
*Suiton • Water Prison
B-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user is able to spew a large ball of water that stands at three meters in diameter. This ball rolls forward at the desired target up to 20 meters away and at a speed of 20. Should this strike the target, they will become engulfed within the sphere. However, if this manages to strike multiple targets, it will envelop them as well, up to a total of 3 prisoners. One can resist being pulled into the ball if they have a strength higher than 20. The trapped targets will spin with the sphere and may become nauseated and dizzy from the disorientation. The technique lasts for a total of 4 posts before bursting.

Quick and intuitive though he may have been, Gene was not a deity and thus could not split his consciousness into enough parts required to both evaluate the future repercussions of his earlier actions in their entirety. Albeit taking precautions in order to minimize mishaps in his own actions, the specialist was not prepared for Tenzin's rather sudden and awe inspiring Water offensive. His auburn hues flickered with a predator like intensity followed shortly after by what appeared to be apprehension. Of course, he had not faulted Tenzin for putting his training and versatility to use - but blamed himself for abandoning the one thing he'd spent learning for the better part of his childhood. In just a single instant, Gene was reminded exactly why he had learned the Kage Bunshin technique in the first place and mentally berated himself for a basic mistake that in a real battle would have cost him his life.

Despite his error Gene was not so lost as to maintain his Raiton Armor. Even an oaf could see that continuing to keep such a technique active would have only done more harm than good and so, using what little time he had before the rolling sphere enveloped him Gene cut all Elemental chakra flow immediately which caused the sparks surrounding his form to disappear. To his surprise the rolling sphere was heavier than he initially thought possible for a technique created without a water source and reasoned that a lesser foe would have been swept away in its momentum. To make matters worse, the sudden rush of water while cooling on a day as hot as this one, made it incredibly difficult to breath inside less he want to drown himself or severely damage an organ. Retaining his composure, Gene analyzed the function of the technique that now held him captive and reasoned that its relatively quick application made it a vital jutsu for capture - as he'd just learned the hard way.

To think I'd end up a prisoner of the sea where no water was present, I've clearly underestimated you Tenzin. In all his years Gene had only been imprisoned once before, as a Genin under Awai Minoru's tutelage. It was during this temporary imprisonment that the team learned their first true lesson in what it meant to be a Shinobi. Daring not to go against his late mentor's teachings Gene would not resign himself to helplessness and instead sought out a means to break the technique's hold upon him, no easy feat considering his own body weight was now working against him in the tight spaced water prison. The thought had emerged to erect some kind of barrier to drive the water away from him but Gene soon cast the idea aside when another counter argument of what would happen to the water that managed to seep inside of the barrier? He'd essentially just be compressing himself into a flap jack and he held no desire to be squished to death any time soon. Against the weight of the heavy dome Gene tried to move his arms and discovered quickly that his strength had not failed him. Albeit significantly less than his normal speed he could at the very least, bring both of his arms together to form hand seals - not that he actually wanted to form any seals anyway. Gene knew that had Tenzin been as smart and consistent as the Cloud watcher himself believed the young man to be, that any attempt to weave signs would be met with stiff resistance from this point forward. So...Gene did the only thing that he could think of, the only thing that made any shred of sense to him in his restrained, breathless state.

Harnessing raw chakra into his entire right hand Gene formed a tight fist and drew back as far as he could go without ramming into the back of the sphere. Then, letting out a hellish war cry that was undoubtedly muffled due to the sea that surrounded him, Gene slammed his fist into the front of the prison using all of his strength in addition to letting the Chakra stored release itself outward on a single point creating an inconsistency in the structure. To his surprise, the sphere was tougher than he imagined but not insurmountable. He felt the mass of chakra give way behind his fist and knew that he had indeed done something to offset the finely concentrated elemental mass. Shortly after the primal strike Gene heard a distinct whistling sound and rather than be startled, it spurred him to strike at the sphere again and again until at last the entire orb...collapsed with a whooshing sound and he with it. "GLUUUUHH!" Gene gasped, sucking in the humid air and coughing as if he were about to lose a lung.

When he had finally managed to collect himself and his lungs had soothed from the burning they'd now been exposed to, Gene looked to Tenzin and grinned. What the man had been thinking at this point was a mystery but clearly he'd been impressed with his friends willingness to use such powerful Ninjutsu. "Well...that's a new one. Who would have thought that there was another Shinobi with an affinity for Suiton in the village." Gene spoke as though the development were a truly rare find despite still being in the midst of a competition; he seemed more intrigued than upset about the fact that he'd almost been drowned to death. "That makes you similar to him, you should be proud." Takeo flashed through Gene's memory and the thought of their first and last sparring session seemed to trigger yet another chuckle from the Silver-haired Jounin. "And here I was thinking you may not have been ready for this," Gene's expression softened as if he'd realized a great error in his own logic. "From here forward I'm going to stop taking you so lightly, Tenzin."

And with that Gene bound for the heavens, flowing backward as gracefully and nimbly as a Raven. Twice the Cloud watcher spun in air before landing light as a feather upon his feet crouched down like a Black Panther some twenty or so paces away. Utilizing every discipline that he had learned without taking up a specific stance, Gene freed up his range of actions and made sure not to be rigid in his decision making this time around. "Alright, lets do this properly." He spoke with renewed vigor, his left hand snaking back to his rear hip pouch to remove a damp smoke pellet. "That last technique of yours ruined one of my favorite books... I hope you're ready to pay the price." What Gene meant, was that he'd could no longer view Tenzin through the lens of a child; at seventeen he had proven in just a short amount of time that he was as ready to take on the mantle of... a new order, than those twice his age or the same.

It was strange. Up until now Gene had never felt truly compelled to take a direct interest in the abilities of another colleague even remotely. From his own team - squad 15 for which changes were made constantly, to some of the very people he'd come to know through missions or simply bonding with them within the village, Gene could not say that he particularly cared for their development. To him, their potential had always been capped by some inconsequential thing like love or other emotion but Tenzin; a young man who had been of the same rank and a year younger in age, displayed a capacity to play many roles on a battlefield or in any team capacity. Inexperienced in the ways of selection though he may have been, the Anbu Buntaicho would have been foolish to overlook the vast possibilities afforded to the Hatake clansman.

In an instant he had realized the flaw in Gene's approach and immediately sought to exploit it without so much as a second thought. Had this been a situation that demanded a momentary delay; such as creating a window for the rest of a team to escape or retrieve a vital piece of information, surely Tenzin would have completed his assignment where Gene would have failed. Suddenly Gene felt a heat rise in his gut as the realization donned upon him. He offered no excuses in his folly but felt the anger at himself all the same. He realized in the moment of clarity the one thing that he feared the most had begun to come to pass:

The Cloud watcher had started to slip.

Remember the fifth rule: Never drop your guard. The thought was to Gene what the holy Quran was to fanatics, what Suna's sun god was to its people. By his own volition he swore to never forget the rules and to abide by them at all times from here forward. That meant doing away with a side of himself that he realized, had been burrowed into his heart and mind on behalf of the every day life around people of the village. How ironic was it, he thought, that the one way to ascertain the highest possible level of mental and physical enlightenment and fulfill his purpose was to cast away the very thing that made him sociable. Nevertheless, it was time now to become the Weapon rather than rely upon one.

The water orb exploded forward and caught Gene into the spherical water prison. For most people it would contain them. It could also hold to 2 more people and if they didn't have the training/experience Gene had, they would of been trapped in there. Since this was a spar and not a life or death situation, Tenzin decided to save his last part of his first tactic till after Gene left the water prison. Tenzin knew it would take great strength to break out of there and it simply was no normal feat. Tenzin kept his chakra flowing through him as he watched Gene escape the prison. Upon his emerge, he watched as he gasped for air and regained his positioning. 'It was a smart move to release his raiton body around him, if he had kept it..... There could of been negative effects that would actually cause harm to him.'

Gene broke out of the water prison wet and looked somewhat pumped up. The grin alone caused Tenzin to think: 'Great, now he is going to test my limits...'. Tenzin listened to Gene as he expressed his observation about him. He listened as he said "Who would have thought that there was another Shinobi with an affinity for Suiton in the village." Although Tenzin didn't know who he was referring to, it was clear to Tenzin that Gene didn't know much about him or maybe he had forgot. It would take one look at his file or a simple conversation with other teachers at the academy to know what Tenzin was noted for. Tenzin had little renown for his capability to use all of the basic elements. This capability alone made him a great asset at the academy, especially when it came to shinobi who did not have the common Katon Affinity. After Tenzin heard Gene say: "From here forward I'm going to stop taking you so lightly, Tenzin." This worried Tenzin, since he knew some of Gene's strengths and didn't want to get close to him. It would be wise for Tenzin to keep his distance and make sure to avoid being close up with Gene. After Gene made it clear he was going to go all out.. which meant Tenzin did too.

Since Gene was wet, it was important for Tenzin to capitalize on what would seem like a minor weakness. He spoke to Gene right before he weaved his hand seals. "Gene, I'm sorry about your book... however, I'm somewhat shocked you don't know my specialty." Then without hesitation Tenzin weaved the hand signs and due to his chakra already formed, was able to release the jutsu within milliseconds of the hand signs being completed.

With little time, the area would start to be filled with Tenzin's Raiton infused chakra. All while the raiton area was being created, Tenzin put himself in a defensive stance in case of any attempt of an attack or to disrupt him. Due to Gene being went and temporarily surrounded by a wet area, this would emphasize the electrical effects of the jutsu. It would most likely find him faster and if connected would cause a tiny bit more damage to not only the designated area that is supposed to be damaged, but possibly effect his whole body since he would be covered in water to begin with.

No sooner did Tenzin launch himself into another set of hand seals did Gene thrust the smoke pellet down toward the ground causing it to burst, sending a storm of black fog spiraling rapidly from its source outward and upward all but completely obscuring the silver-haired young man in his entirety and the dark intentions he sought to bring into fruition. Aside from the hiss of smoke seeping out from the destroyed pellet and an occasional whistling wind, no sound beyond that of nature could be heard. An eerie calm onset the now soaked clearing and with the addition of Tenzin's latest technique, the buzzing of electricity flowing seamlessly only dangerous to the small insects that plagued the dirt. Their cries of anguish hardly above the dead's symphony and surely not to be missed.

As for what became of Tenzin's sparring partner, Gene? Slipping away via the created smoke screen had been easy enough and remaining silent while doing so also did not prove to be difficult, it’d been the threat of electrocution that posed a problem limiting him only to travel high above ground via the trees and the many branches that grew from them.

Had the young man below trained himself in the ways of detection and truly disciplined himself to pick up on even the slightest of hints then he would have been so inclined to direct his attention skyward; though to do such alone would not have been anywhere near sufficient enough to locate the Cloud watcher with all of his speed. Gene took things a step further and became a cloud , drifting from one area of foliage to the next so seamlessly and without making so much as a leaf ruffle from its branch. It was the kind of feet expected of something far from human, told only in legends and witnessed only in dreams. Such proficiency and focus, speed and execution; his friend in this moment transcended the expectations of the average human being and likened himself to something more, a Demigod.

In one instant during transition Gene brought his hands together forming a 't' shape with his index and middle fingers while still in flight; before his feet could touch the bark of the tree he'd set his eyes upon a perfect replica split from his body and fell freely down below intent on landing right on top of the unsuspecting Hatake clansman. With its creator gone in the wind, the Kage Bunshin deftly began weaving through hand seals, its hands all but a streaking line flowing seamlessly from each seal to the next in a practiced rhythm.

Uma-Tora-Mi-Hitsuji-Saru-I-Uma-Tora

Had the Shadow clone completed the sequence, it would draw in a deep breath of air, raise its right index finger and thumb in the likeness of a ring to its lips and exhale between the opening. Instead of oxygen however, a bright orange flame would burst from its lips traveling downward falling into gravity’s unbiased hands. At the time of the technique’s inception Gene’s shadow clone would have already fallen three meters toward the ground, releasing the flaming mass of Chakra just with just a little under three yards standing between the body of the Clone, placing the flames at just one yard and closing for Tenzin’s upper back. Had the flames actually managed to reach its target the dose of pain inflicted would be… no small matter. First degree burns while not inherently life threatening were difficult to ignore and the man’s clothing would no doubt become his enemy providing a constant source of discomfort and agitation in addition to a searing pain reminiscent to one burning their hand on a stove top. To the Shadow clone, a moment’s hesitation would have been all it needed to arm itself with a Wire Kunai, sling it into a nearby tree and swing toward it for a base landing without touching the ground...Provided everything went according to plan.

Tenzin had spent his whole life indulged in Elemental Ninjutsu. It was to the point where he could tell what elemental style was going to be released by the hand sign. Growing up he didn't have a special ability, nor did he have a secret technique that separated him from others. He was even on a team where his teammates were exceptional in their clan/house's specialty jutsus. The praise that his teammates received and even his classmates was the fuel for him to train for an edge. Over time he had become exceptionally gifted in utilizing the five main elements. His ninja capabilities were well known when he was younger. However, upon the last few years his family situation had changed drastically and someone needed to look out for his little sister. The best way for him to not get completely rusty, but still stay at home for most of the time was to take his skills into teaching. With his knowledge of the five main elements, he had become a rather important role in ninjutsu training for children. He had been a part of a lot of elemental jutsu training and has even been capable of tapping into the strongest element for each student who wished to become stronger. The way he looked at it, is that everyone should have an edge and everyone can have an advantage in combat if they know what they are doing.

Now flash forward to the spar at hand. Tenzin knew that he was a little bit out of his league. He knew that he also was running out of chakra, which would be his ultimate downfall if he was in actual combat. Especially considering his taijutsu was mediocre at best. Tenzin also knew that his opponent Gene was nothing short of a genius for his age. Only one year older than Tenzin and he had already accomplished so much in his life. He had much more to obtain and his strength would only increase.

Tenzin knew that by effecting the ground, Gene would have only one option and that was to hit the trees. The smoke stopped Tenzin's immediate vision, however this was a tactic that Tenzin would use himself. In fact, he had a suspicion on what Gene would do... considering Tenzin had done it a few times himself. There were only a few options and reasons for blurring Tenzin's vision. He either A: is hiding within a higher ground, B: created a few clones to tire and confuse Tenzin, or he could simply be doing all of those things. He figured that the next move would not be a direct attack or even one by Gene himself. However, Tenzin's mind was in a pretzel trying to figure out what would happen. Since he was very rusty from actual life or death combat, he decided to do something different than what he normally does. Tenzin had ever inclination to wait for the attack to come to him. However, if his original thought process was correct, he could possibly be attacked by multiple locations and this could result in some serious injuries.

So instead of waiting, a few seconds after the smoke had risen and Gene was not in sight Tenzin decided to move away from the area. If there were a possiblity of multiple attacks, it would be best to distance himself and find a new angle.... Especially since Tenzin's chakra levels were dropping. However, he had to make sure that he gained distance. With that in mind, a few moments after the smoke had consumed his sight, Tenzin decided to quickly surge chakra to his arms and expel water from his arms all in one motion. He expelled himself backwards and from it seemed like in the nick of time, especially considerend a fireball hit the ground right where he was. The fire ball itself exploded on the ground and when it did the smoke as a whole cleared up. If Tenzin was successful in creating enough distance between him and the blast, he would also be able to look up and notice (what he thought) was Gene in the air.

If the avoiding was successful Tenzin would notice that at this point, he didn't have much else that he could do in this combat. When it came to pure overpowering, at this point, Tenzin was at a slight disadvantage. He had to think of something quick! It was a short amount of time before the water had expelled completely from his hands, which would of given him a little more distance away from both of the Gene's at this point. However, Tenzin decided to take out the clone so that the two could fight it out just them. So the second the water dispersed, Tenzin flowed his chakra continuously and weaved the necessary hand seals before performing the jutsu. When he landed on the ground he would attempt to release the jutsu. If everything went perfectly, he would be trajected right towards the Gene in the air that released the katon jutsu. If everything was to work out exactly how Tenzin wanted, he would of been able to at least make contact with the clone and fall to the ground with it. However, at this point it is somewhat of a desperate move on Tenzin's part.

Tenzin had been absolutely right to slip away while the chance presented itself -- putting as much distance between one's self and an unknown adversary with unknown capabilities was without a doubt, the smartest option. However, he'd fallen into a trap that many young up starts became victims of later or perhaps even early on in their career; he'd made the fatal mistake of returning back to the scene of the incident without pondering the possibility that the enemy could very well have been baiting him out, waiting for just the exact kind of moment such as this one. His attack of the Shadow clone struck true and the solid blow forced "Gene" forward hurling toward the ground with a low grunt. However, silently approaching the young Shinobi from behind, stalking like a Cheetah who had sighted its prey -- was Gene and both his hands glowed with green Chakra a clear abnormal quality compared to what the standard representation of Chakra looked like.

Without so much as a word, Gene attempted to strike at Tenzin's back utilizing a basic chop that surprisingly, was not aimed for his upper neck (brain stem), spine or heart. In fact, it was aimed specifically for the young man's left arm and if struck - Tenzin would find the tendons, muscles and so forth weakened to the point where he likely wouldn't have been able to use the arm to capacity anymore. Meaning his ability to weave hand seals would suffer a debilitating blow. How could he handle a fight without his jutsu, Gene wondered. Was he cunning enough, primal enough? Did he have the drive to survive no matter what? It was high time to find out what kind of stuff the Hatake clansmen was made of.

Perhaps one of the most dangerous and revered Iijutsu honed by medical-nin, the *[Iijutsu • Chakra Scalpel] is no precision instrument. After performing the necessary handseals, the user will begin to focus an ample amount of chakra into his/her hands. Once charged with chakra, the user will attempt to place his/her hands on the target. If the user is able to connect the entirety of his/her palm, the chakra will be released into the opponent's body, slicing tissue, organs and veins up to 4 inches from the surface in an area roughly the size of the user's hand. The skin remains unblemished by this technique, as it only causes small to moderate internal wounds. As this technique is dangerous and mostly uncontrolled, the precision needed to kill instantaneously is lost. The chakra used in this technique is highly visible when first activated and emanates from both hands for a duration of three (3) posts or until contact with the opponent is made.

The attack was successful. Tenzin was able to surprise Gene above, but after completing a few hits he quickly realized it was all but a clone. The clone poofed and before he could react, he felt a crazy pain in his left arm. This pain instinctually caused him to launch in the opposite direction, in attempts to get away from where the pain was created. While he launched, he turned around only to see Gene standing there with green chakra flowing through his hand. Tenzin recognized this technique, but was surprised that Gene knew it. It was an advanced medical technique that could be used in combat. It was not only a great tool for medical ninja, but a great weapon if used properly. Tenzin looked at Gene with several feet in distance as he held his left arm with his right. It was clear that the intent was to stop his capability of using hand seals... which other than his mediocre taijutsu, it was a glaring weakness of Tenzin. If Tenzin thought he was done before... he definitely had his doubts. However, he couldn't afford to look weak in front of Gene. For some reason this spar got competitive and if Tenzin was going to lose, he wanted to lose with everything he had.

Tenzin focused for a second to regain his thoughts. 'This is my last and final chance' he thought. He knew that he only had one more move before he would declare Gene the winner. He focused on his chakra and started sprinting towards Gene as fast as he could. Tenzin used his low supply of chakra and focused it on both his foot and his finger. Through channeling he was able to prepare himself for when (or if) he got close to Gene. Within a couple meters of Gene, Tenzin attempted to slam his foot down on the ground. By doing that he released the earth below him to move straight for Gene's foot. If the Jutsu connected, it would not be strong enough to hold him. However, it would be strong enough to through him off for a second. If that would to happen, Tenzin would use that momentum and strike forward aiming to poke Gene in the stomach with his right pointer finger. If everything was to fall into place, then Gene would be sent back from the exploding of the jutsu. If none of this worked, Tenzin would be open to an attack due to being slightly exhausted and drained almost completely of chakra.

Gene couldn't help but notice that the electrical current that once permeated through the ground was now gone. However, he wasn't sure if that were because he'd been successful in pushing Tenzin far enough away from the cast area or if his sparring partner had simply lost concentration over his technique, forcing its immediate end. Which ever served as the case Gene was now able to move about freely albeit with more than his fair share of apprehension considering he'd already gotten himself caught in one of Tenzin's traps before. Clearly, this particular Shinobi had a great deal of potential and his mastery over the elements surpassed even Gene's own --- as a Buntaicho, recognizing that talent and proficiency almost certainly guaranteed the Hatake clan member a spot under Gene's unit directly.

"Tenzin...that's far enough." Stated Gene flatly, relying on his friend's ability to maintain control over himself as opposed to actually trying to avoid what may have been coming his way. Gene recognized the glow at Tenzin's finger for one of his own techniques; simple in its creation & one of the Chakra friendly jutsu, it was the perfect weapon for quickly dispatching a foe...albeit how noisy it was when connected. Perceptive as he'd been however, Gene noticed the formation of Earth rising to ensnare his feet and had but one solitary thought. Tenacious little bastard. Gene realized that he would have to teach his friend the importance of conserving Chakra and not revealing all of his tricks to an opponent; already fooled once by a Shadow clone, Tenzin had let it slip that he were able to use all five nature transformations with considerable accuracy. Had Gene been tasked simply with gaining information on his enemy's fighting ability and then to retreat, his job would have been completed long ago.

Moreover, Gene's demonstration of Raiton was deliberately a bate move to see how Tenzin would have responded. Thus, while his counter with Suiton in the beginning had been well played it had also played right into Gene's agenda from the beginning. From Tenzin, Fanho and all the way up the chain to the Hokage himself, there were many-a-Shinobi who seemed to believe that the only way to deal with an enemy was by overwhelming force 100% of the time, just because they could afford to do so. In this light Gene realized that he was significantly different from each in that he preferred to discern the motives of his adversaries first and then design a battle strategy afterwards to impede upon those motives. Alas, his mind had already been made up; if at all possible, he would bring Tenzin into the underworld and mentor him personally in the ways of subtlety, espionage and misdirection. All skills that he would surely need in the coming days.

Gene had become so lost in thought that he'd briefly forgotten that Tenzin was still charging toward him and when his mind drifted back, it was too late. His eyes widened but oddly enough, didn't display a sense of fear or panic....no, it was curiosity. When the jutsu struck his core a rush of heat overwhelmed him and suddenly he found himself being carried backwards; further & further, further still until his feet had been lifted off the ground and the heat combined with a blinding white and orange light. Then, everything went haywire and Gene couldn't tell whether or not he'd been up, down, left or side ways. "Urgh...well, I've used that technique on plenty but this is the first I've been on the receiving end..." Pain shot through Gene's body stemming from his core but he brushed it off. In addition to his Acid burn scar this new one would make his toned Stomach look...pretty damn unsightly. At this rate, he'd be a splitting image of a worn training dummy.

"Not bad at all..." With a grunt he rose to his feet and dusted himself off, taking some time to both acclimate himself and adjust to having his sight return to him. "Tenzin, you definitely know your way around a jutsu but that in and of itself won't be enough to tackle some of the crazy Shinobi out there. What would you say to stepping away from the Academy for a while and getting a deeper look into what's been going on around here?" Gene asked, a closed mouth grin spreading over his face but soon replaced by an even expression. In truth, if not for his ability to mend most all wounds with Iijutu Gene would have been concerned about the damage he'd just suffered. Granted, he was no stranger to being burned and burned badly, he chalked this recent injury to something that just came with the territory.

Tenzin's actions were almost instinct.  He didn't think, he didn't worry, he kept fighting thinking it wouldn't end.  The thrill of combat almost sparked something within him... he simply missed it.  He missed putting everything on the line and he missed utilizing his jutsu's instead of just merely teaching them.  He took on his role to help out with his sister, but she was going to graduate soon.  That meant that she would be out of the house most of the time on missions and training.

Within his adrenaline fueled attack, he didn't even notice Gene trying to stop the fight before it was too late.  The earth style jutsu latched to his foot and Tenzin was already inches away from his stomach.  In the back of his mind, Tenzin was convinced Gene would of been able to get away from it or even lighten the blow.  However, this did not happen; Tenzin's finger struck Gene's stomach and an explosion caused him to send Gene backwards and land on the ground.  Tenzin was in utter shock and he lifted his arms up in the air to touch his head as if he felt awkward.  The pain in his shoulder caused him to make his arm limp and not move it all too much.  He ended up walking up to Gene holding his bad arm with his good hand as if to hold it in place from moving while he walked towards him.

He got close enough to Gene to speak with him and wanted to express his sincere regret for striking the way he did.  "Gene, I didn't mean to leave a mark..."  Then Gene continued to actually compliment Tenzin with a "Not bad at all...".  It was there and then that Tenzin heard the words of Gene offering for him to leave the Academy for a while.  What did this mean?  What would he do?  But most importantly, what did this entail... with these thought spiraling through his mind he decided to ask Gene what he had meant.  "I don't fully understand... what do you mean?  Could you give me a little bit more information?"  It was a sincere question.  Did Gene want him to leave right this second?  Did he man at the end of the academic year? Regardless, Tenzin leaving the academy would require a request for substitute or even for a replacement.  Part of Tenzin wanted to attend the graduation, but if there was an opportunity to improve himself and learn more... he couldn't pass it up.  Tenzin was eager to hear Gene's response on what he had working in that brain of his.

Graciously, Gene took the helping hand and rose to his feet. Had Tenzin been any other person Gene was sure to have at least attempted to run him through once with his Raikiri but both for the sake of what he had in mind and preserving a friendship, the idea was quickly discarded. Truthfully he had been amazed at how Tenzin, without the aid of any environmentally world breaking ninjutsu, could hold his own and perhaps even out right upset the natural balance if he'd put his mind to it. Much like his own, Tenzin's abilities were delicate and needed to be cultivated in order for the young man to reach his full potential...and quickly.

"I'll put it this way," Gene began. Making sure to choose his next sequence of words very, very carefully. "Today was your interview for a new job position that has recently opened up," his Auburn hues meeting Tenzin's with unerring intensity now. "Whether you want the job or not is entirely up to you but... should you accept this invitation, you'll be running more missions for the village with me directly." Gene had honestly hoped that his explanation did the trick because for Tenzin to pry for more information was to risk exposing the existence of a covert unit and more importantly, his role in it. There would be time set aside to really play the Question and answer game but out in the forest where any number of eyes and ears could have been lurking certainly did not fall under either. For the time being his friend would just have to trust Gene and come to a decision on his own based on the information he'd been given, and he needed to do so now.

If nothing else however, Tenzin could rest assured that from Gene's overall air which had shifted in the time that the young man helped him to his feet, that this opportunity was a one time offer. Had Tenzin declined of his own free will or chosen to pry in earnest, the offer would be revoked and never presented again. There were few things that Gene actually took to heart and among those few, were silence and secrecy. He did not believe in saying the same thing twice nor did he believe in loose tongues. From his perspective, based upon Tenzin's sentiment about needing to mix it up and get out of a classroom setting when they'd spoke at the Konoholic, what Gene had initially mentioned about doing just that should have been enough. The fact that it wasn't had already began to push the skeptical mind of Gene to a much darker place; are you truly ready for the weight I am about to place on your shoulders, Tenzin? Was I wrong to think that you were? His mind trailed back to  the day that the Hokage had stumbled upon him during training and offered the same job that he now had offered Tenzin, a place among the elite. Back then, there was no need to even think about it and even after three years of being on the force, he still felt the same. What did that mean now, though?

Waiting for Tenzin's answer Gene observed the man's body language as one would the pages of a book. Took in the young man's breathing and repeatedly checked him for any signs of nervousness. If this hidden opportunity had already started to take a toll on his friend then Gene would certainly deduce such and make his decision then and there, so...he wondered, what would it be?

'Hmmm very secretive, but it must be for good reason' Tenzin thought as he listened to Gene cryptically invite him to a position that would require a lot of his time.  He simply didn't know what to think about it, but knew that there was a reason for Gene's phrasing.  Tenzin and Gene have had a few encounters together and actually bonded on a sober night at the Konohaholic.  However, Tenzin had no idea that this whole thing was a test.  He thought he was out here to train and get stronger, he had no idea that this would come of it.  So Gene's words hit him hard.

Upon Gene's explanation, Tenzin went from looking at Genes Auburn eyes to then looking up at the sky.  It truly was a beautiful day out.  What should he do?  He dedicated his life to teaching only to find out that is not what he truly intended to do with his life.  At that moment, Tenzin realized he was given the opportunity of a life time.  He took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a dramatic second to look at Gene.  These kind of opportunities don't happen all too often and if Tenzin was to become a better shinobi, he would be honored and benefit from learning under Gene.

It took a moment of thought, but Gene could hear the conviction in Tenzin's voice.  The choice was made.  He knew that they could talk about this in a more secure place so he just simply said a few words to Gene.  "I'm in."  Tenzin wasn't 100% sure what he just signed himself into, but he did know that whatever was going to happen was going to help turn him from an average shinobi into a full fledged shinobi.  Tenzin was eager to be debriefed and understand what his role truly would be.  The school year was almost over and his sister would be a full fledged ninja soon, it was time Tenzin focused on his life and what he can do to provide not only a better future for his family... but for the village as a whole.

For some unknown reason a part of Gene had almost wished that the young man next to him had turned down his offer but nevertheless, he was thrilled that Tenzin hadn't. It meant that he was aware of his short comings, albeit vaguely, but enough to warrant a desire for change. For Gene that had been enough and in his head he'd already begun preparing his report to the proper channels, Lord 17th would be pleased to learn of this new development. For that matter, Gene's ultimate goal of providing his unit with the essential man power necessary to handle varying degrees of difficulty out in the field was becoming much, much closer.

"Good. Glad to hear it!" Gene replied, his usual suave tone returned after the tense exchange as though the answer received had been enough to warrant a shift in his mood. "Here, take this and follow the instructions listed on it." Gene dug into his rear hip pouch and pulled an item from it, Cloud of Sparrows. Had Tenzin took the book and turned to the final blank page of the novel he would have discovered a series of very specific and very brief instructions that were written in such a way that their intent could not be confused. Gene himself hadn't bothered going into detail about the instructions but it would have been clear enough that he was supposed to find his way to the underground chambers of the ANBU headquarters - though the term ANBU and HQ were never explicitly used. Instead, the message engraved on the book had read:

It is in the deepest of darkness that we fight.
In the most dense of forests we thrive.
Our Spirit, though troubled, cannot be conquered.
Our Heart, though heavy, cannot be broken.
Our Mind, though clouded, cannot be deceived.
It is by sheer force of Will that we live, and that we die.
A Fire burns within, a flame you cannot extinguish.
Spirit, Heart, Mind, Fire, via these are we protectors.
By these are we saviors.
By this we swear, we are the Shinobi of the Leaf.

At a glance or three, it'd appear to be the Words of fire that every Shinobi of the village had needed to speak in order to officially graduate from the Academy, because it was. However, hidden within the mantra were key directions that if studied close enough, would lead Tenzin exactly to where he was supposed to be. Whether or not he could deduce such from the cryptic message depended on his own ability to think beyond the surface, to see through a clear deception in order to discern the hidden layer of truth. It was a final test, was he Shinobi or was he not?

"When you figure it out, I'll be waiting." And with that, the Jounin seemed to vanish almost as if he'd never been there to begin with. From here forward the rest was on Tenzin's shoulders.

The book didn't look like nothing special.  He nodded to Gene, but instead of responding he opened it up to see what kind of map, instructions, or any kind of clue was in the book like Gene said.  While flipping through it with his god hand he started to get a little bit focused.  Once he got near the end he heard Gene speak and inform him that he would be waiting.  Tenzin's eyes looked up from his focus to ask him a question about the book but before he could say anything, Gene vanished.

'Ugh, maybe I should of just said no...' Tenzin half jokingly thought as Gene disapeared before his eyes.  He made his way back to looking at the book only to find a message engraved on the final page.  He was very familiar with these combinations of words...  He had made his students remember this since they needed to know it before graduating.  'Hmmmm, this must be what Gene was talking about.  Ugh, I guess I have to figure out what this means.' With that thought in Tenzin's head he got down on the ground and sat crisscross and began thinking about what the message was saying and what Gene had told him.

Who knows what the future held
