Growth of the Next Generation

Post by Diatenshi » Thu Oct 17, 2019 3:52 am

A rare day off, Masaru wasn't one to slack off just because he wasnt on duty. He awoke early in the morning before the sun was even up. He quickly gathered his things and did his routine hygiene regimen. Rushing out the door with his poleaxe and a backpack full of scrolls he rushed towards the training field. Once he arrived the sun was just barely starting to show. He sat on a bench and in the light of the rising sun began to read the scrolls on ninjutsu he brought.

"Ninjutsu starts with chakra. Most prevalent method of casting ninjutsu is through utilizing the proper sequence of hand seals after gathering the required chakra. Due to the numerous hand seals and sequences there's an almost infinite number of jutsu to be discovered." Masaru would read aloud to himself, the sound of his voice reaffirming the knowdlege he was reading. It wasn't anything new, just the training scrolls he received in the academy. But when looking tk improve and move forward it often best to return to the start and refresh on the basics. As he read the scroll he circulated the chakra in his body. Masaru paused after he read the first scroll and practiced his hand seals. He then proceeded to sign each of the ninjutsu techniques he new thinking on what each one had in common and what was different. Though not overly sure of how each difference changed the techniques, he still made a mental note of them as it would certainly help him in the future should he strive to create his own ninjutsu techniques.

Masaru rolled and returned the first scroll to his back pack before pulling out the second pausing just for a moment to ponder why they still used scrolls in class when they had books. Part of him suspected it was because the old fogeys were stuck in their ways. He unfurled the second scroll amd as with the first began reading aloud to himself. "One of two techniques required to modify or create new ninjutsu, change in form is an advance Chakra control technique. By changing the structure and movement of chakra one can change the size, range and purpose of the jutsu..."[/color] Masaru would again think on the differences between the seals of his jutsu and though he wasn't sure on the how, he was certain that the changes in seals had something to do with directing the change in form. Furthermore, he concluded that simpler jutsu had less seals as a result of fewer transformations in the chakra itself. The kai technique for example used to get out of the genjutsu he struggled with so much consisted of a single seal.

"The greater the change in form the greater control of chakra is needed to execute the technique." Masaru scoffed at that, he may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but even he was certain it should be obvious. He'd shake his head and resume to finish off the rest of the scroll. The last bit spoke of high level control techniques that required no hand seals yet carried high levels of power. This last bit made him question his earlier assumptions but he shook his head and blamed it on him being too inexperienced to properly understand. He rolled up the scroll and sat up stretching before performing two different techniques on from his clan's wood release jutsus, the other a common earth manipulation technique.

Forming the seals for the first a wooden bulwark would grow out of his arm. He'd observe by feeling how the chakra changed as the bulwark grew. After making his observations he released the jutsu. Then moving to focus on his next jutsu. After performing summoning his chakra and performing the necessary hand seals, an earthen wall would rise from the ground. He'd make study the differences in the structure of the jutsus and the differences inherent in the required seals. Unfortunately, even after this he was no closer to being able to create his own jutsu. He'd probably have to study the seals themselves in depth versus just memorizing the order he needed for his various jutsus.

He'd return to his bench and pull out his third and final scroll. This one was titled: Changes in Chakra Nature. His baritone voice recited the contents of the scroll quietly, repeating the parts he needed to truly focus on. Or at least, the parts he thought he did. "Change in chakra nature is the second advanced chakra control technique utilized when modifying or creating new jutsu and changes the properties of the chakra itself. Changes in nature are greatly tied and influenced by an individual's own chakra affinity." At this point Masaru pauses to compare his doton ninjutsu and his clan mokuton, even taking a moment to compare the nature-less kai technique. He was actually more comfortable with the concept of changes in nature than form. His clan's mokuton was a combination of the base element suiton and doton. Of those he had learned to control doton on top of his clan's mokuton. He thought to himself and realized he had a preference for the heavy, solid, defensive nature of both elements. As he finished the readings he smiled knowing the time for the true training had come. The only real way to get good at anything was repetition. To constantly practice casting and using ninjutsu was the only way he'd excel and improve his own abilities.

There was another young shinobi out and about before the sun had risen, a genin with sleek raven hair that was tied back into a ponytail for ease and brilliant light blue eyes that gleamed a bit in the morning nautical twilight as the reds, oranges, and pinks started to drift against the dark skies over the treeline to the east. He’d been up for over an hour at this point in the day, it was early morning meditation with his father who spoke to him not just about the techniques to becoming a better swordsman but about the philosophical portion of swordsmanship and how one needed to build not only their mind and body but also their spirit. While Kijo was able to somewhat understand the meaning of his father’s words and teachings this morning he was still left a little bit in the area of confusion to what the implied meaning behind the statements where. Even as a young man now, more or less, the genin wanted to grow stronger and gain the respect of those around him and also bring a great deal of honor to his parents. Though he couldn’t help but be a bit frustrated with his father at times as the man had made him wait until completing the shinobi academy and graduating to the basic rank of Genin before he’d even let the athletic framed son of his have a katana.

On top of that the man only taught the boy two things as well, the first was how to draw the sword smoothly from its sheath without any wasted movement or energy, something he was still working to perfect, and then to do the opposite and sheath the swords just as quickly in one fluid motion. The latter portion was a bit harder than one might think but he had managed to gain a decent mastery over the purpose and method of swiftly drawing and resheathing the weapon back into its scabbard. Other than that the old school samurai had only taught Koji perhaps what one could have considered to be the most basic technique of the Iaido style, a sword strike which carves a horizontal strike in front of the user from the sheath in a lightning fast draw often times it would be combined with a short dash to close any distance on the current opponent. He wanted for the old man to just dump techniques over him at this point, wanting badly to just immerse himself in the style and techniques with no real regard for creating a stable base to grow from as he didn’t understand the true concept of training. Even when he brought this up to his father about how he was ready to learn more difficult technique the old man only smiled and shook his head, appreciating the motivation his son had to learn but he would not break the training regimine and have the talent he saw in the boy wasted by attempting to take shortcuts.

After morning meditation with his father, which lasted until the curvature of the sun could be seen breaking the plain in the horizon, the raven haired swordsman in training grabbed a few rice balls from the table that his father had made and tossed them into a stachel which he slung cross body before attaching his personal katana onto his left hip. Today was a free day of sorts, the team he was assigned to wasn’t doing anything today and their sensei had informed them to rest up and prepare for their next mission which he’d pick up for them in a few days. But the fresh genin was far too excited to simply take a day off, how would one improve if they didn’t train after all? To be young was a great thing. With some food, a small canister of water, and his sword in tow the agile shinobi leaped out of his second story bedroom window and was off to the training area. His footwork was something he hadn’t even noticed himself working on, but through random chores and tasks that he often performed at the request of his father Koji had noticed himself slowly improving in speed as he continued training with his father. The man had many subtle ways to sneak training into various tasks that seemed almost mundane and ordinary to most, as a seasoned teacher the old man felt it was the best way to train his son by not letting him understand that each specific movement helped to build up small muscle memory to specific actions. Even now as he was running and jumping, along the various rooftops near his own home the boy could feel that the way his father had taught him to adjust his body weight went running and jumping had already helped him to improve his speed.

One of the defining factors in a battle of swords was sometimes which blade could reach the other person first, as for Iaido it was a style build almost purely around two aspects: speed and perception of the opponent. In order to strike an opponent one needed to ensure that they could either force the opponent into creating an opening or be able to move and attack to quickly for them to react. Koji alternated each leg as he had reached the edge of the housing district in which his family called home and leaped down gracefully landing on balls of both feet with his knees flexed in order to properly absorb the shock of the landing from two stories up. Rocking is body forward to the point that it seemed like he was about to fall forwards he then pushed off with both legs into a straight dash as his leap had brought him into the neighborhood training area set aside to spar and practice one’s craft. The left hand was curled along the top the decorated gold and blue scabbard as the right hand instinctively found its place on the hilt up next to the hand guard. As he rushed forward towards a nearby vertical log target the thumb of the left hand pushed against the hand guard of the sword pushing just slightly out of the sheath. In a blue of blue and white a single, almost perfect draw and slice of the sword, the strike itself coincided with him moving past a foot thick target log as the blade cleanly sliced straight through the obstacle with what felt like little to no resistance.

By the time he’d came to a sliding stop, his wood bottomed sandals leaving a pair of small skid marks through the dirt training area he was standing back up and the sound of the sword being sheathed was the only thing that could be heard before a few moments later the log he had just attacked had the top half slide off to the left side and tumble into the dirt kicking up a few wisps of dust. “I’m almost there…” Koji remarked to himself quietly, not even having noticed the other figure who was nearby on the bench reading from some scrolls as he had been to focused on the technique of his drawing strike and the target.

Heavily focused as he was on his studies Masaru had tuned out the rest of the world. An act his academy teachers would be furious over. A proper shinobi should always be aware of his surroundings they would say. It was not until he heard the rambunction die down that it actually registered in his mind that he was not alone at the training grounds. Looking up he was somewhat startled to see the young man with raven lock. The slight perspiration on his face indicated he'd been training for a fair bit of time already.

Masaru put his scrolls away and approached thinking of training together. After all they were all one team right? He ran a hand through his chocolate brown hair as he looked over the young man thinking of a good training regimen for them both his hazel eye sparkling like opals in the radiant light of the dawn. Combat was always a good training idea but to simply fight someone he didnt know, especially while ignorant of rank or abilities was a good way to make a complete and utter fool of himself and that was something he'd like to avoid. Finally an idea spawned in his head. Walls! He could make a maze out of walls. Then he stopped just as soon as the excitement struck him. While that would be excellent training for him what benefit would that give the other young shinobi. He shook his head resolving to first speak with the other young man before coming uk with any more plans.

"Oi there. Care for a comrade in your training endeavors? Im not entirely sure what you are working on but I'm sure together we could think of something that would benefit the both of us. Besides training is always less tedious when done with another. As they say misery loves company. So, I'm out here to work on my ninjutsu skills." He'd raise wall of earth off to their left as an example. "What about you mate? What are you here working on?"

Masaru would attempt to come off as friendly as he could. The cold focused blue eyes of the other party may indicate an anti social personality but Masaru would not judge the man before hearing him speak. It was only fair after all.

The young man's left hand still rested upon the sheath as the right hand was gently clasped around the hilt after rapidly resheathing it moments earlier, a light smile on his face now as he stood up completley and allowed for his right hand to finally release the leather bound hilt. His bright eyes turned to the left as his head followed the motion of the eyes to look back at the strike across the training log after the top third had toppled down onto the ground now. As he observed the cut the chuunin half frowned as he could tell that he hadn't been able to cleanly slice through the log just due to the marking left on the inside of the log from the slice of the blade. His father really didn't teach the shinobi to many techniques, instead wishing for him to focus purely on the basics and master them until he was able to perform each of them without any flaws in the movements or techniques.

But to commit such a technique to the body so that it was simply instinct or muscle memory takes a person peforming that same action ten thousand times. While Kojiro had some incredible work ethic that was still quite a monumental task for anyone and definately wasn't something he'd been able to do just yet. Though at the same time he could tell that he had managed to improve his speed a little again just based on how fast and fluid the unsheathing and sheathing of the katana had been that time. Shaking his head a bit the young shinobi couldn't help but laugh a little out loud to himself, realizing that he was probably just being to hard on himself. "The goal is to get a little better every day..." He was speaking out loud in a quite voice, repeating a saying that he'd picked up from his father as a child that very few were born great and everyone else needed to slowly chip away at their goals in order to achieve them.

It was at this moment that he heard a noise, the fellow Konoha ninja putting away his scrolls, which kind of surprised the young man as his head snapped to the right to see the new comer who he hadn't realized was there before him this morning. "Hey." The man was normally always a cheerful kind of person, especially when he was on the training ground and it showed as the right hand lifted in a wave back to the man before speaking fully in response as the young man raised a wall of earth. "Nice my friend and a comrade? Of course!" An excited smile appeared on the lightly tanned face of Koji now as he looked at the wall and back to the man, turning his body to reveal the sheathed sword on his left hip where the gloved left hand still grasped it lightly at this point. "I'm here to hone my sword techniques, my father won't teach me any new ones until I'm able to perform the ones I've learned from him without error or flaw. " A resolute tone could be heard in the young man's voice as he spoke in return, the left hand instinctively tightening around the sheath of the weapon, he looked forward to what lay next in his training under the hand of his father. "I'm Kojiro!"

"Senju Masaru. Swords seem to be a very commonly used weapon. Though I have my own preference. Let's see how could we team up and help each other train..." He'd pause contemplating how they could work together. As he thought his brow would furrow his dark eyebrows contrasting with his bright orange eyes. His maze idea before seemed off but perhaps the walls themselves could work. And why limit it to just doton? He could make things from mokuton as well with his jutsu. This would give him a chance to

"I may have an idea if you're willing to hear it." Masaru would pause to see if Kojiro was interested in hearing him out. He at least thought it was a plausible plan. "I create the targets via jutsu and you take them out with your sword techniques? I can create a variety of targets from walls to small projectiles. What do you think?" Masaru would speak out his idea. It was simple but would likely be an effective training for the both of them. He patiently waited to here his comrade's thoughts on the matter. If Kojiro found it to be unsuitable they'd hit the drawing board together and see what they could come up with the two of them.

"A pleasure." Kijiro smiled and brought his hands together in a respectful martial salute towards his new comrade, a gentle smile on his face as he nodded in response to the mention of the sword being a common weapons. In all the world it was truly the most common type of weapon, at least to civilians and samurai, even farmers used types of swords for different things. "An idea?" The swordsman's ears perked up at the mention an idea from the Senju clansman standing across from himself now. "Of course, please go ahead." The raven haired chuunin lifted his right hand up, palm towards the sky above that was slowly turning into full blown morning as the pair spoke with one another, the gesture silently telling the shinobi to proceed with what his idea was.

"Ah!" The swordsman's bright eyes opened slightly wider now, if his comrade could utilize different ninjutsu like the one he'd shown him a few moments earlier with the earthen wall then it would allow for him to train against actual targets that weren't just the immobile training logs. The target points and sizes would change and if the fellow shinobi could also create small projectiles for him to have to dodge or attempt to intercept then that was even better! An excited smile couldn't help but form upon the thin, sun kissed face of Koji now as his head was already nodding yes even before the words managed to escape his mouth. "Training together with one another is the best method, in order to develop our will of fire we must be able to work as one. There are very few people who can fight alone on the battlefield, what make our village so strong is your united strength!"

The hand which had motioned for the young man to continue to speak his idea just a moment before suddenly clenched into a tight fight as it moved right in front of Koji's chest now, a confident smile on his face as he nodded to Masaru again. "Allow me to hear about what sort of ninjutsu techniques you have."

Masaru had a favorable Impression of Koji. He seemed to be an amiable fellow with a sort of can-do attitude. Listening to the lightness in his tone, Koji's positive attitude seemed infectious and caused a smile to slowly spread across Masaru's face. At least, until an innocent comment caused his fist to clench till his knuckles turned white and the chill of a cold sweat to run down his spine.

Will of Fire... It struck a cord in his mind as memories of a dark cavern and unbearable pain came unbidden. In his eyes, a glint, as they flickered fiercely as if in response to his emotions. Pain...followed by growing warmth. He'd clenched his fist too tight and his nails had inadvertently dug into his palms. The heat just another casual reminder of how his life was permanently altered by the spirit sleeping within him. As the other young man made a fist he finally came back to his senses allowing him to catch his request.

Looking for an escape from the dark and pain, Masaru willed himself to move forward and quickly began a series of seals. Repeating them thrice, his mind returning to focus on the seals themselves and the movement of chakra within; senbon, kunai and shuriken would seemingly grow from his hand till there were 5 of each. They were pale, the color of sun bleached bone and had a beautiful grain texture to them. The senbon looked like oversized splinters while the kunai and shuriken looked like toys carved from wood for children. He'd offer them to the fellow and smile proud of his handy-work. While it wasn't exactly important to make them finely detailed. Masaru had always attempted to do so to practice his fine tuned control.

"Most of my time has been divided between taijutsu and my clan's elemental jutsu." Masaru would pause and wonder how much this fellow knew about his clan and would wonder shortly if his eyes would raise any questions. He hoped not. Forcing himself to focus on the task at hand he'd continue speaking. "I've only recently branched out into doton techniques. I can make a wall of earth, wooden tools to throw at you. I even know two jutsu to mess with your foot work to keep you on your toes."

As the young man spoke, he had noticed that something within his own words seemed to have caused a strange reaction in the fellow Konoha shinobi as the man's fists balled up tightly. Being a swordsman in training, so to speak, it was important to be able to reach the movements of an opponent and it had become somewhat a natural thing for Koji to attempt to observe the natural body language of those he knew or had just met. It allow for one to pick up on subtle things one might normally miss but the reach that the Senju gave caused for the hairs to raise up on the back of the young man's neck, even to the point that the left hand that had been resting peacefully upon the sheath of the katana suddenly and instinctively moved into drawing position around the weapon without him fully realizing it.

'What a strange feeling...' But as soon as it washed over him it disappeared, perhaps he was just misunderstanding the situation or the fellow shinobi's body language due to being unfamiliar with him. Exhaling slowly now the man allowed for the tightness of the left hand to loosen as he saw that his new comrade seemed to have come back to normal. Hand seals were made as a series of wooden ninja tools were made, seeming to actually grow straight from his body. In the eyes of the young chuunin such a thing was still an amazing sight, he was truly in awe over the abilities of the Senju clan and their ninjutsu. Though strickly speaking he didn't know much more than what the ability of the Senju clan was, their ability to manipulate wood style ninjutsu, but perhaps this young man could educate him on that, as well.

"Ah, taijutsu and elemental ninjutsu. I to have trained myself in a similar manner, though I have only learned about Raiton ninjutus and use that in support of my own sword techniques so far. You've already learned to use two different styles of ninjutsu and you're younger than me. That's pretty amazing man." The man's gentle smile came back onto his face as he took a few step forwards, extending his hand as he spoke in order to check out the wooden weapons created by the young man. "The detail on these is pretty amazing, Masaru." He commented on the man's level of detail, normally tool technique was made to just have a functional tool without a lot of the detail like a real weapon or tool might have. But it would seem that the Senju clansman took a lot of pride in his ninjutsu technique, which was definately a good thing.

The younger shinobi sounded much like himself, prefering to focus on taijutsu and elemental ninjutsu, the only different being that Koji had leaned more towards the Taijutsu side while Masaru had leaned more to the elemental ninjutsu side. Aftre inspecting the wooden ninja tools created by the genin he extended his hand and offered the tool back to the fellow shinobi now. "I'm interested to see what you can do now." Gently bending at the knees the young man rocked backwards lightly as though he was falling backwards on his heels before pushing off the ground causing his body to blur slightly from the level of movement speed, even moving backward now, allowing him to create a near ten-meter gap with a single leap. The left hand instinctively found itself on the sheath of the weapon while the finger tips of the right hand were just touching the leath wrapped around the hilt...a contagious smile still on the lightly tanned face as his raven hair was still swaying back and forth from the rapid movement.

*Masaru would nod and smile in response to Koji's compliment on the detail he put into his jutsu. Compliments were always nice and it felt good to have your hard work praised when at home he'd simply be scolded for wasting his focus and chakra. In a battle the enemy wont care how nice the knife thats flying at him is. He knew this yet it was a great way to practice chakra control.

"Now let me see some of that fancy blade work of yours!" Masaru would shout out in turn as he started to circle his sparring partner. Now at a 10 o'clock position compared to Koji, he'd toss out the five kunai first as they flew straight towards the target. Despite, having a straight forward trajectory each kunai had its own target. One for his head, one for each shoulder and knee. He'd follow up with a quick twist of his wrist throwing out the shuriken which travelled on an arced path coming in perpendicularly to the kunai. His final assault for the initial warm up would be to jump up towards the sun and throw out his narrow senbon their small size and the bright shine of the sun making them hard targets.

"Remember cut down as many as you can try to avoid dodging as much as possible and focus on technique my friend!"

"I'll try!" There was both enthusiasm and excitement in the young man's voice as his feet shifted against the hard packed dirt of the fighting area that he'd leaped back into previously gaining a bit of distance from the other Konoha-nin. Even with his speed and blade work if he was to close then he'd have no time to react and only in up a sore loser with splinters as a learning lesson. With his body posed to move and the right hand gently grasping at the braided leather of the hilt the man gave a nod to his new friend, a simple single to identify that he was fully prepared for whatever kind of assault that was about to come his way. With his eyes focused and his breathing in a steady rhythm the young man parted his lips just slightly and inhaled in preparation to move as the kunai were the first things to be launched his way. Each launched one after the other and the boy on the pitching side didn’t hold back on his aim, something that in the moment the swordsman took a mental note of.

Many people when they were training would only half do things, either out of fear or safety. But in one failed to train in a harsh and realistic manner than when it came down to the real thing they would have only set themselves up for failure and potentially death as the end result. This was something that both his mother and more so his father had driven into Koji as he began to walk the path of a shinobi. The first came for his head which caused for the man to sway his body just slightly to the left as the kunai was close enough that it cut a few stray strands of hair as it passed, the wind from the wooden weapon enough to cause a bit of rearward wind force to tug against the boy’s hair. The second two were close behind aimed for his shoulders which caused for the chuunin to alter his footwork in order to alter his body positioned as he turned his body sideways just as they arrived allowing for his slender upper torso to slip through the streamline gap between the higher kunai.

He had turned to the left side, this allowed for him to still be able to draw his blade and attack towards the forward area which the weapons had been thrown from, it was in that instant he allowed himself to focus solely upon the remaining kunai. In a flash of steel the shinobi’s sword was released from its cage and the weapon was turned slightly at an angle as it arched completely across in front of Kojiro’s body. The arch itself adjusted last minute so that it could intercept and bat away the two kunai thrown last towards his knees as the attack knocked them away and also split them in two. Next were the shuriken that were tossed out and arched into his position after he’d finished knocking away the last two kunai, catching the throwing movement out of his upper left vision the man pushed back as his blade instinctively sheathed itself just as fast as it was drawn, a prime discipline of the Iaido style that his father was teaching him.

Three rapid sword draws and sheath followed as the first one cut a shuriken in half as he stepped to the right side with a side-step footwork maneuver before the second slash clashed against the incoming pair shuriken but he was forwards to retreat as the second set of two that were incoming were to close to allow for him to complete the resheathing of his sword and thus as he sheathed the weapon Koji jumped up over them. Twisting his body the body tracked the movement of his new comrade as his feet were about to hit the ground the man opened his mouth just slightly and inhaled deeply as his breath was mixed with lightning chakra forming within his lungs. Tiny discharges of static electricity could briefly be seen as the shinobi’s brilliant blue eyes tracked the jump of his training partner upwards, making almost perfect use of the angle of the sun this morning before launching the remaining weapons, a set of five senbon, down upon his currently crouched position.

As the sparks of static could be seen around his body the man was able to make out the senbon descending upon him, the raiton chakra had flowed through his body due to it passing from the lungs into his blood and thus into his whole body now. This allowed for the chuunin gain a bit of extra speed from the subtle ninjutsu technique that he’d used, something that would come in very handy at this moment due to how close the senbon were and that they were coming down from the brightness of the sun. While confident in his swordsmanship skills he knew that he wouldn’t be able to cut them all down from such a view point and had to dodge as he pushed forward and left and then lastly right in a zig-zag pattern of movement before coming to a stop. Five plunks could be heard as the five senbon landed point first in the dirt, having enough force to remain standing up as the points were buried into the ground about two inches or so.

There was a tiny cut in either sleeve of the samurai-ish top that he was wearing were two of the senbon had passed that close, almost breaking his skin due to their trajectories. “Wow! You didn’t hold back any! That’s what I’m talking about!” Not only was Koji not upset in the least about his new friend attacking him in such a matter while training, it actually was just what he wanted and needed to thank him for taking such a role seriously like he did.Not

Masaru watched carefully as how Koji took out the projectiles and nodded appreciatively. It was a proper training now half assed movements or attempts. Koji was taking the training just as seriously as he was. It made him glad to know he wasnt alone. He was surprised at the way he used jutsu but nodded seeing how effective its subtle use was.

"Of course what's the point if you don't. You perform how you train. You do half assed training you'll perform poorly in real life situations. Now ready yourself for the next barrage!"

He'd quickly move in performing hand signs. 20 more senbon would form and hed toss out 10. 5 straight and 5 up to come down on an arc. Hed then stomp his feet down causing an earthen wall to rise up, in an attempt to confuse him. It was a simple plan but Masaru still wasnt quite done.

He picked up the senbon hed thrown previously. If one looked they'd see they were some what larger than before, the natural growth passive of mokuton kicking in. These he kept and then running behind the earth wall while Koji dealt with the other senbon hed throw the strengthened senbon through the earthen wall using their new strength to attack from a potential blind spot.

"I am going to get a little more intricate in the use of my skills now! It won't just be an endless dull barrage of projectiles!"

"Haha, bring it my friend!" While the man was not directly involving himself in close range sword-to-sword fighting with his sparing partner, this was still a truly valuable method for training. Because one would not always be within striking range of an opponent and would need to deal with what every they might through at you in order to close that gap while they were alternatively attempting to stop you from doing just that. This was a good simulation of just that kind of situation and it also was fun to train with other shinobi, especially those close to his age with whom he might be working with on missions in the future. The young man made no effort to hide the excitement in his voice as he replied back with hi warm voice towards the Senju whom was already gearing up for the next barrage.

The man's bright blue eyes focused on his moving opponent and the string of familiar hand seals which he'd used a bit earlier before their sparring session had even begun to demonstrate his skill in the Senju ninjutsu style of Wood. Quite a unique skill set that Koji hadn't had a lot of interaction with and he took it as a learning point for him so that he could perhaps intergrate it into a team strategy later on when he was the one leading shinobi and not just a member of the squad. With a close lipped, wide smile on the chuunin's face he shifted his feet so that he was once more into the standard sword drawing stance of the Iaido style as the right hand firmly grasped back onto the hilt of his personal sword and readied himself for what was to come. This was the barrage of wooden senbon that were sent in two seperate waves towards him now, the first in a blatant heads on attack that was straight towards his chest and another that were tossed upwards in order to allow for them arch back down from above.

First things first, he needed to deal with the series of senbon that moved towards him. In a flash the sword was instinctively drawn from the sheath in a arching strike meant to severe bodies or head from the rest of the enemies body, flipping the blade so that the wide portion of the blade or its side was exposed towards the incoming attack. This allowed for the thin blade to have a wider striking surface allowing for him to move and strike at the same time, cleaving down half of the senbon that remained on a trajectory to hit the young man's upper torso. The remainder of the first group swished past where his body had previously been as the sparks of static electrictly could still be seen sparking randomly around the man's body, Koji controlling his breathing allowing for him to continiously inhale deep breaths that kept the raiton chakra building up in his lungs flowing through his entire body to keep up with the small speed boost that he was using to help him train.

The man's sharp eyes moved up and could see the small wooden needles raining down on his position now which caused for the man to rush forwards in order to dodge the hail of senbon that impacted the ground only a few feet behind him, adjusting his gaze after the dodge he noticed a wall of earth rising and hsi new comrade disappearing behind it. Leaning forward in order to put more weight upon the balls of his feet the sword had already found its way instinctively back into its sheath at this point. With a powerful push of his legs the streak of yellow sparks and blue clothing swished forward with incredible speed as the young man was attempting to accelerate hiself up to his maximum speed in order to swiftly and rapidly cross the distance. Wanting to be able to put the Senju under a bit of pressure to see how well he would hold up under it now.

Yet, he definetly had not expected for the senbon which Masaru had picked up while maneuvering himself behind it now allowing for him to release a blind side attack almost on the swordsman who was quickly closing the gap towards the wall. Only to find that the senbon punched through the wall as he neared causing his eyes to widen and forcing him to make a split second decision or wind up like a wooden pin cushion at the other end of the shniobi's wooden senbon now. The only thing that he could think to do was lean back as his momentum continued to carry him forwards as the dash turned into almost like a baseball slide now as his legs and buttock slide across the ground as the series of senbon flashed by over head. Exhaling as his feet came into contact against the base of the stone wall now he would continue to use the forward momentum to pop up as the right foot hit the wall pusing himself up and back now at a slight angle.

'There...!' It was in that moment when his body was a few inches off the ground after having pushed off from the bottom edge of the wall that his sheathed sword came to life and flashed out in another wide arching strike that carved through the wall from left to right slicing it completely into two pieces at this point. Using his spinning motion created from attack now he kicked out with his left foot. Though it was a weak kick it would be enough to cause the uppet half of the stone wall created by his partner to topple over towards his friend and perhaps even catch him off guard this time. After all, training was a two way street and it would be very selfish of himself if all he did was work at improving himself and not attempt to also push and help Masaru train as well. "Catch!"

Masaru was once again impressed with how Koji continued to systematically eliminate his projectiles. He was certain Koji's skill with the sword far outstripped his talent with pole arms. He definitely had much more to work on. Maybe he should ask for some pointers in the future. This was his train of thought right up until the wall came toppling towards him. His first instinct was normally to kick it back and launch more senbon through it. However, as he was specifically trying to train his talent in ninjutsu he had to alter his plans.

A flurry of hand seals and a new wall would rise behind the first, the upward motion of the rising wall redirecting the force of the toppling wall to fall the other way. "No you catch!" Masaru was enjoying his training immensely and it showed in the wide grin on his face. It seemed his partner had finally decided to bring things up close and personal. However, rather than take the defensive and put distance between them to continue his projectile approach Masaru decided to press forward. After all, a number of his jutsu were best used in close proximity.

A series of one handed seals with his right hand would result in the formation of a seed in his left. He'd toss the seed over the wall and kai it before starting another set of seals that resulted in the growth of a large shield like structure from his right arm. As the explosion from the seed settled Masaru would jump over the earthen walls he'd made previously doing a flip, throwing 5 more strengthened senbon. Upon landing he'd make for a frontal charge the wooden bulwark held in front braced with his other arm as he prepared to ram into the opponent.

"Hmp?!" Only a moment after he had called out to his friend to catch the upper half of the doton wall now, having gently kicked it forward enough to cause it to become unbalanced and fall towards Masaru now. Yet, his new friend was proving himself extremely adept in not only ninjutsu but combat experience for someone of his own age. Able to think quickly on his feet and plan ahead as the sparks of static started to fade from around the young man's body as he floated backwards from kicking the wall, using it as momentum to create some distance. This led to the wall toppling over where he had previously been and kicking up a small cloud of dust that was around shin high off the ground now as the weapon found itself back within the sheath from which it had just been drawn from.

The Iaido style revolved around rapid drawing technique and in tune with that was the natural reflex to instantly sheath the blade if there wasn't a prominent threat that one needed to use their blade to defend against. His feet touched the ground toe first as he slid back a few more feet after landing now, his eyes drawing in upon the new stone wall that hid his comrade behind it as he could only smile at the fun he was having while training with the Senju clansmen. Floating over the top of the wall now was a small walnut sized piece of wood that had instantly caught the sharp eyes of the swordsman had he stood unmoving about five or six meters back from the wall in front of him assessing the seed. As it exploded the man was forced to tuck his head and left his left hand to guard his fact out of instinct, having never seen the attack before he was truly caught in surprise. "It exploded?"

As the explosion settled a few stray pieces of wood managed to reach him but being at the range had thankful been a blessing in desguise as it had been a small explosion, much larger and he would have gotten caught up in it. Lifting his eyes after the small explosion now he could only see the wall before him as his left hand shifted back down from where it had been used to guard his face onto the sheath of the sword. "Ready..." He was just about to charge when Masaru had taken the incentive to jump onto the offense once more as the Senju flipped over the wall and launched a series of slightly larger senbon down at Koji from an angle. Due to the angle it stopped him from his previous thought of closing the gap between himself and his training partner as the man once more forced the swordsman-in-training to kick backwards as his body leaned back.

The sudden acceration backwards forcing the long raven locks to rush forwards around the sided of his face as he found that his foe had created a sort of wooden shield for himself now. To the swordsman these led him to believe that the Leaf-nin wanted to close in on him instead of the other way around. Things were truly getting exciting now! As he was landing after leaping back causing the senbon to stab into the ground where he'd previously landed he formed raiton chakra into his lungs again, only this time it was more as he simutaneously inhaled a deep breath through parted lips in order to force air into his lungs and have it mix with the raiton chakra forming there. Outside the man's body static sparks began to form randomly around the man cracking here and there as his body was energized due to the lightning jumping through his muscles. "Let's go!"

Leaning forward onto the toes of each foot, the left foot forward slightly and the right foot back slightly, he instantly pushed off attemtping to accellerate himself to the top speed possible in the short distance between the two as Masaru charged in shield first. Not knowning how strong the shield was the man attacked but didn't draw his sword, instead opting to keep the sword sheathed and turn the damage more into blunt force against the shield. This allowed for the chunuin to feel safer in attacking incase the shield was unable to hold up against the strike leading the Senju to only recieving a blow from the sheathed weapon and not the actual cutting edge of the katana.

His target was retreating back. He blinked. A loud crash and the world is suddenly going in reverse. Masaru was stunned by the display of speed as he backflipped out of the fall and tried to recover. Taking a senbon that was quite a bit larger than the others he'd stab it into the ground to keep from being knocked back further. Hand to hand combat it would seem was a big mistake and he couldn't even begin to hope to keep up with his opponent. His arm had bruised but already a dull cherry red color glowed out as the injury mended it self. The pain the healing brought was worse than the pain of the injury itself and Masaru wondered if it was the spirit's way of getting back at him.

He glanced up and coughed as he immediately performed the seals to make more explosive nuts. His only real option was to keep the nuts on hand so to keep Koji at bay. He'd heal from just about anything even losing a limb... He'd done that once before as it was. He popped one of the seeds in his mouth and closed his hand around the others. He was clearly out matched and though it was a simple spar, one performs how they train. If he speaks up and ask Koji to cut back he'll be less prepared to do what must be done in a real life scenario. He wouldn't actually detonate the nut. If he was close enough that he thought hed win, hed simply shout boom. Training like its a real world event is one thing, but actually injuring a comrade severely is unwarranted. He rolled forward back towards Koji tucking a nut in his left shoe. As he rolled up he'd spread his arms out wide and do something he was pretty sure would catch Koji by surprise. He tried to hug the other young man in the middle of the spar.
