[Plotboard]A Couple Of Losers

The stone bench was cold and unforgiving to Zakuro’s body. There was no comfort in a seat like this, but it wasn’t made for comfort. It was made for convenience and to resist the weather that beared down on it day after day. Speaking of, today was a beautiful day. The rays of the sun smiled upon the bustling city of Konoha, causing its colorful buildings to appear even more vibrant and exuberant than usual. The air was filled with the sound of chattering citizens in the busy streets nearby. A new seafood restaurant was filling the nostrils of anyone that dared come close with the decadent scent of fried salmon. Zakuro was no exception to this rule. If he hadn’t already eaten breakfast before his trip, he might be tempted to follow his nose to its front door, but he was far from ready for another meal.

Despite what could be described as a perfect day, Zakuro still found it difficult to keep a smile on his face. Sure he laughed and made jokes with some people on the way here, but those shreds of happiness quickly fled from his mind. Zakuro’s elbows rested atop his knees as he stared at the shadow he cast on the ground in front of him. He listened to repetitive tapping of his fingers as his fingertips from each hand hit one another in an endless loop. His leg aimlessly bounced on the ground, and the world around him was cut off from his senses. The only thing the Chuunin was focused on were his thoughts.

Here he sat, outside of Fanho’s front door. Zakuro had reached the destination 40 minutes too early and now sat across the street, waiting for Fanho to walk out his door. It was only last night that he got word of the situation in Waterfall country. The instructions were very clear. As it was an emergency, Zakuro and Fanho had 24 hours from that moment to prepare and set off to Waterfall and neutralize the threat. The two immediately decided that they would get a good night's rest and talk in the morning, but it seemed Zakuro’s body didn’t like that plan. He tried to rest for a few hours but ultimately gave up. There were better things the man could do with his time anyways. Zakuro sharpened each and every one of his weapons in preparation for the journey ahead. He wrote a letter to his family explaining the circumstances, leaving out the danger of the mission, and even practiced a bit of taijutsu. That last part helped clear his head. Physical exercise always seemed to calm Zakuro’s nerves better than anything else. He felt prepared and ready to go. That was until the sun rose at least, and he became painfully aware of the fact that he would begin his march into the unknown that day.

Zakuro’s black shirt was unfortunately starting to fill with sweat and cling to his body, even furthering how uncomfortable he was. The massive armpit stains that were forming were thankfully covered by the leather jacket the Chuunin was wearing. This nervousness was likely to pass eventually, but the anticipation of entering the unknown was likely to cause an ounce of fear of even the hardest of men.
