Taiga had smoldered for a long time in anger. While his peers had been constantly assigned to missions and growing, as a host he had received zero missions and spent much of his time doing nothing in Konoha. Why would the village waste such potential? Taiga was easily capable of toeing with shinobi outranking him, and in some regards was capable of Bannin level feats... At the very least the boy could be assigned to a B-Rank mission... how else was he supposed to grow? He leaned back against the tree and took a swig of a bottle of whisky- one he had stolen from a corner shop before heading to the training grounds to mope.

He could not help but put the blame on the Hokage personally though. They put a monster in a kid with emotional issues and did not like the end result... but they kept him around because like none before him he put the monster in place... he mastered it... but now they likely did not know what to do....

Perhaps it wasn't that? Perhaps he had become to valuable to the village and it was a catch-22. The stronger he was, the more risk of losing him... Either way he was fed up with doing nothing. He took another swig and leaned back against the tree with enough force to dent it, imprinting his body into the tree. So he was a little angry...

"What is a shinobi with no mission."

"What's up ground swimmer?" Fanho had been wandering around the village, admittedly he hadn't seen Taiga in a long time, nor had he had the opportunity to talk to him and see how far he had progressed. Fanho himself had just reached the peak short of being Hokage, but high enough he was rumored to be practically second in command anyways due to his desire to become Hokage. It wasn't long before Fanho's eyes traced over the bottle of alcohol that was clasped between Taiga's fingers.

The Bannin gave a slight frown but hopped down and sat next to Taiga, rather than chastise him or spew a bunch of jargon of how it was bad for him he'd just let Taiga keep taking swigs from it unjudged. It wasn't what his friend needed. "Seems like you got a lot on your mind. Wanna talk about it?"

Perhaps the best way to help Taiga feel better was to let him rant, or get out his feelings and view points. To let it loose would mean the pressure would be free'd up, and allow Taiga to think through what Fanho would have to say in response. After all to fix an issue of plumbing you don't try to beat back what pressure is about to burst, or to reinforce whatever it was about to burst. You could let it loose, and then help deduce the cause of the issue so the pressure doesn't build once more.

"Two of these please," Gene had spoken to the fruit stand vendor who wasted little time plucking two large apples from where they'd been kept and placing them along with a host of over goods that Gene had picked, inside of a brown bag. Sure that he'd gathered all that he would need, Gene fumbled for his wallet only to have his heart sink down into his feet. "...Er, just a moment." The Jounin's face was a flash of red from embarrassment and the daggers being stared at him by the vendor merchant did no favors for his anxiety. "Oh! Here we are. Sorry about that," the silver-haired young man chuckled sheepishly before handing over the money he owed which - to no surprise, was quickly freed from his open palm. A sigh of relief escaped him but Gene did well to note how quickly the merchant's attitude toward him had changed. Talk about a tough crowd, he thought while taking the bag containing all of the purchased goods within his left hand.

"I have to admit it's pretty nice out today. Maybe my luck will change and I'll find a girlfr--" As he rounded a corner taking him out of the commercial district Gene noticed that Fanho had been talking to someone. From this angle he could only see the Awai's back but the large feet and legs of some person sitting down were pretty much a dead give away. Ooooh speaking of Girlfriend - is Fanho finally making a move?! Well...I've never seen feet like that on a woman before but hey, they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Having read somewhere in a book that a woman often selects a partner based on the social status of the male Gene decided that it would have been best for his old acquaintance if he didn't show up looking like some kind of a goof. As he approached the duo, Gene adjusted his clothing accordingly and ensured that at the very least - everything looked and felt like it was supposed to be there before actually making his introduction.

"Oi, Fanho you sly dog finally got a gi---eh?! Taiga?!" For the second time today the young man flashed with heat. To think that he had actually believed Fanho capable of getting some points with the ladies! He'd be sure to crack one hell of a joke about that later but for now...Taiga didn't seem to be his usual loser self. Granted, it wasn't exactly a rare occurrence for the guy to be in some kind of a mood Gene had never witnessed his teammate drinking anything before. Frankly, it kind of pissed him off. "Oi, what the hell is this?" Gene demanded.

The youth stood in his back garden with a spade in his hand, digging holes for his mother as she wished that they renovate the garden so she can spend some leisurely time at home, sun bathing in the sun. He had to dig this hole deeper, and dig another one over there and then another. This was becoming a little manic for the youth the bare at this time of day. He was suppose to be out training, bettering himself, not stood in his back harden with a spade digging holes, pretending to be a gardener when he had no idea what he was suppose to be doing. And his mother was beginning to get on his nerves, constantly hustling him about what else needed to be done and that he was doing it all wrong, it seemed like it was him who actually needed to get some leisurely time, but away from here. He let out a sigh;

'Hey mum, do you mind bringing me some iced tea?' the youth let out and the moment he saw his mother going into the house, he dashed towards his sword and scroll. Swiftly attaching the sword to his belt, and unraveling his scroll. With a few strokes of his brush, the youth painted a picture of a hawk that flew out after he performed a short string of hand seals. This activity was so well known to him that his timing was perfect, he was in mid-air jumping onto Takashi before he fully materialized. His wings flapped ferociously and before his mother managed to come out of the house with his iced tea, he was high in the sky, gliding through enjoying the atmosphere, free of any troubles.

The youth took a deep breath and allowed the warm air to fill his lungs. It's been a while since he had the time to enjoy some time off, with his mother constantly nagging him every few minutes, it was rare that he actually had some time to himself, to just relax and enjoy the moment. It was moments like these that he craved, where he could just breathe without someone nagging him all the time. He took another deep breath, and shifted his body from a led down position to sitting cross-legged. He peered over to see where they managed to get to. The training grounds, perfect.

Izaki got to his feet, and at that moment Takashi took a nose dive. Flying down like a hawk swooping down to the ground to catch its prey, spiraling through the air and his wings, once again, beginning to flutter ferociously to stop from crashing into the ground causing a gale of dust to spread in all direction before Takashi feet were firmly planted on the ground. Through the gust he managed to see silhouettes near a tree and when the dust cleared he realized who it was;

'Sensei?' the youth let out, his voice was calm, but contained a spark of curiosity.

Taiga had taken quite a few good swigs- normal men would have been utterly inebriated by this point but the young mans shinobi fortitude allowed him to stay still in control- albeit a red flushed face. He looked at Fanho who had shown up to annoy him no doubt. The Awai pissed him off. He was always assigned to missions and had become the villages golden boy while Taiga was left back at home doing nothing. Beyond his recent venture to Suna Taiga often wondered if he was even really a shinobi, or a convenient living cage with an expiration date long away that kept the genma fully in check for the village. Stirring a little more upright, completely blocked from sight behind the Awai held up his drinking, motioning to the Awai to see if he wanted any.

"Your kind is pretty dry- thirsty right?" he said ignoring the Awai's altruism in reaching out to him. No sooner than he offered however did he also hear the annoying voice of Gene.... It was like magic- that these three were all in once place again. Vivid memories of the past... their child hood came back to him... but things were different now. "We are all adults now Gene, and I am not on duty so, its totally fine- live a little." he said pulling it back in, chugging the rest, than releasing a belch as he stood to his feet. Truth be told a drunk genma host kind of had an eerie sense to it... a lot of power for an inebriated person to have.

Standing up he kind of felt it a little more wobbly, but was still decent composed...

"Surprised you two aren't out on missions and that kind of stuff- or with your new students, I guess?" he said pointing a finger at the boy who had no approached the three calling out "sensei".

"Well- I guess this is my mission you know, keep an eye on the village or something."

Fanho sighed as he heard the irritation getting to Taiga with the arrival of the antagonist in this short story. Taiga's drunk ramblings had a hint of jealousy and envy. It sounded like the other teen was troubled with his lack of trust from the village, and the menial tasks as he saw given to him. From here Fanho could pick up that Taiga wasn't too pleased with his non-'home arrest' home arrest that was occurring. Maybe the village hadn't intended to keep him locked up behind the safe walls, but it was clear the genma was a factor in it all. Trust wasn't something just given by the council especially to Taiga who had shown promise in conquering the genma, but his judgement was something questionable to the council. An unsure variable they couldn't quite solve.

"Well are you bored of keeping an eye on the village? Sounds to me like you're bored." Fanho patted Taiga on the shoulder as he pushed his alcoholic beverage back towards his friend. "Why don't you come join Mamorinuku and be in the scout squad. You'll be with Zakuro, and you guys can scout the forests and be the forward operations of Mamorinuku. Would beat being stuck behind the walls, and pulling guard duty. You think the council is gonna ignore the request of a Bannin head of Mamorinuku? With your genma you'd be the best scouting and sensory shinobi of the entire shindig right?" The attempt to convince Taiga was something Fanho had hoped would grab his attention, and give him a goal to hold onto. Perhaps it'd give Taiga that push and drive. The trust shown here wasn't something the Bannin tossed lightly, he wanted to show that he wanted to give Taiga an objective that he trusted him with. Scouting outside of the village walls, no monitor party, no boring guard duty, just Taiga being able to be the shinobi he signed up to be.

Izaki climbed onto the head of the painted bird and sat cross legged listening to the banin speak. As he did, his eyes darted between the trio gathered making a mental note of the people there. All of them except for Fanho were unknown to him. But it seemed like Fanho knew both of them to the point where he could even call them friends, especially the one who right now was going through some tough times. Izakis ears perked up when Fanho mentioned being the leader of an organisation called Mamorimoku, he was not sure whether his Sensei knew that he was actually going through the recruitment process under the well experienced wing of the man named Zakuro himself. His speech became more and more interesting and it reached the peak the moment Fanho mentioned the words 'your' and 'genma' in one sentence. The youth has heard tales about the entities, but he had never expected to meet a host of one of them.

His little jaw dropped a little as he looked at the man sat on the branch, swigging the flask up and down as he tried to drown the problems that, by the sounds of the conversation, were created by the entity they were speaking about. 'I thought- a host would be different...- but he's just a normal bloke, struggling to deal with the burden that was placed on him.' the youth thought as he watched the man sat on the branch take yet another swig of what must have been some potent alcohol, Izaki could smell it at a distance.

Taiga shrugged when Fanho refused the alcohol pushing it back towards hinmself- and then took another swig of it before capping it and putting it into his Haori. Perhaps his mind had been too clouded to really get through much of a conversation but his emotions had only amplified. Taiga felt unrespected in the village, he always had. While Gene and Fanho were off getting all the accolades and ceremonious rankings the village could offer he had been left behind. Not one person had ever realized just how powerful Taiga had become- honestly likely in the same level of the Bannin themselves. He had trained day after night by himself in isolation learning things he never thought he himself would use like Genjutsu...

And here he was.

It should be the Sannin three- Fanho, Taiga, Gene... Not those two only. he silently thought to himself.

"I am bored of it. I can be so much more." he said as a puff of smoke escaped his lips, flowing into Fanho's face. The smoke was odourless and ignorable, but nonetheless it was a rude gesture. He would huff once more, give a little hiccup, then look back at Fanho.

"That word bannin bothers me." he hiccuped again. "I am allowed to be an elite of the village, hell they'd let me lead in Mamorinku, but I am not granted the rank of Bannin?" Taiga's fist clenched.

"How can they do this? It is outrageous! It's unfair! How can you be a jinchuuriki but not be a bannin?" he said as his eyes locked on Fanho. "I'm more powerful than any of my peers and just as powerful as you- the council fears my power. Takeo fears my power." he said as his fist released, his face nearly turning red from the anger that was welling up inside of him.

We are all adults now Gene, and I am not on duty so,--" Gene took several steps forward, passing by Fanho and was upon Taiga before he could push out the rest of his sentence. "That's no excuse!" In what appeared to be a single, fluid motion Gene made a pass for the bottle attempting to first secure it within his left hand while he struck at Taiga's wrist from the opposite side with his right hand. Had he been able to manage, the bottle would be swiftly pried away from Sarutobi leaving only a moderate sting where the soft strike were intended to land. True, he might have been off duty but this...this wasn't the way to spend the time. To say that they were the best of friends would have been a lie but Gene could only wonder what the hell Taiga had been thinking in that moment.

By now, had he been able to secure the bottle, Gene took no shortage of time getting rid of it. In what could be described as a simple backward toss up Gene would fling the bottle high over his head -backwards. Coincidentally, around the same time a nameless Shinobi had made his descent from above via means unknown and inadvertantly brushed several leaves on the way down. As this nameless ninja drew closer to the trio after dismounting from what method of flight had carried him on the wind the bottle would come crashing down just two meters left of him missing by a small margin and shattering violently over the skull of a fox that also happened to be prowling about nearby, killing it. "You and I both know that there are better ways to spend down time besides lulling about feeling sorry for yourself. I'm hardly the guy to do any preaching here but consider this for a second," Gene paused as if to gather his thoughts and then...

"If Lord Hokage had a mission for you right now," Gene began, "would you be ready as you are now?"Considering his own question for a moment he then turned to Fanho. While the two had been off on separate tracks since the Chunin exam, it was refreshing to note that the Awai was doing well for himself. However, Gene did not believe that his presumption of having the council's ear solely because he'd obtained an unofficial standing was the wisest thing to say -and liberally at that. The truth was that the council existed to aid and advise the Hokage in their decisions for the bettermentof the village. None would budge on a matter of village safety and function simply because he wished it to be. Moreover, unknown to the both of them it had fallen upon his shoulders [Gene] to monitor and report the activities of Taiga's Growth and Development or lack thereof, to the Hokage directly. Such work was just a small drop in the bucket when it came down to his side of the business and there were times albeit few in number, when Gene felt as though he'd been deceiving his own comrades. Despite these feelings, he'd never once revealed the true purpose of his assignment; not even to Fanho who'd once served under him within ANBU due to the fact that Minoru, Gene's Sensei, had also been an Awai and former Genma host. Had the Awai known that Minoru's behavior and later actions had placed the Awai clan under a microscope Gene doubted the young ninja would have been able to remain silent seeing as how vocal he'd been about Zakuro in the past. Thus, only two were aware of the shadow beneath the light and soon...

Above, the sound of sparrow's singing served as a refreshing backdrop preceded by a calming gentle wind. Blue skies and puffy white clouds gave the training grounds, surrounding forests and river beds a tranquil air as seemed to be the usual in Konohagakure. Strange that despite this, three young leaves struggled to find their paths on the wind.

"So, you've gone and done it then? Finally recognized by the ranks and still as naively optimistic as ever," Gene spoke these words with a half smile and only moments after Fanho revealed his true status in the village. Word had not exactly traveled about this particular promotion but when your job was intelligence and those who such information belonged to weren't good at keeping secrets themselves, well - it wasn't rocket science. Even if he didn't read Fanho's updated file the guy had already bragged about his accomplishment to several in and outside of the village. Frankly, it would have been surprising if Taiga didn't know about Fanho's rank but where the buck stopped was when Gene realized that Fanho were about to blab again about something else. Before he could finish the word Genma Gene again cut in, up playing his ignorance on the subject for the sake of the village."This loser may have gotten stronger but for you to relate that strength to a myth is almost laughable. Even for your level of optimism." Mentally, Gene sighed. Fanho did not realize that had that information fell into the wrong hands that Taiga could become a target and with his level of focus...the LAST thing he needed was a target painted on his back. Gene didn't doubt Taiga but he knew that there were challenges out there that the three of them together still weren't ready for and that alone, pained him.

Putting about one meter between himself and Fanho respectively, Gene began studying the training grounds. Looking for places that a threat might be had become second nature to Mitsurugi, Gene. Minoru had cautioned him to the hazards of letting down his guard and it wasn't uncommon for a wandering shinobi to be clipped by a stray shuriken or kunai dagger so Gene was alert. Recalling the teachings of Aoi, his mother, Gene found himself trying to find the tranquility of an area used to hone violent practices. In the midst of the dragging conversation behind him...Gene found none. "Hm.."

Taiga's mind, drunk as it was, raced through all the ways he could easily stop Gene from taking his flask or even get it back. Things as simple as phasing into him and making it so he couldn't move, or as simple as phasing himself and the flask- intangible to the flesh and cloth that Gene's being consisted of. In the end however he decided it was pointless as Gene did as Gene wished. How a man given so much attention and power by the village could somehow attempt to tell him a story about himself or who he was or who he needed to be was laughable at best. Gene had always been noticed for his talent. Taiga, ignored. Even when he mastered the genma in less than a year of getting it the village had still ignored him. It never trusted him and in honesty, he had felt little in return.

Taiga couldn't hold his laugh back at Gene's question.

"In a heart beat. I'm ready no-" he hiccuped a bit. "Don't get it twisted this drinking is part of my- hicc research. Drunken fist hic is a Konohagakure mainstay after all." The drunken shinobi rose to his feet- his body balancing skillfully on the tips of his left foot's toes, swaying back and forth. Though seemingly drunk there was a sense of him being comlpetely in control even as he swayed- with balance even a well planted leg sweep could not beat.

"If they truly recognized me I'd be Bannin- hell I'd be Hokage." Taiga said as he skillfully hopped and skipped switching to his other foot. "With the power inside of me you should all be bowing before me- I should be a king. An emperor really." Taiga said as his eyes locked on Fanho.

"I'm gunna be the next Hokage."

Bolder words from a drunk had never been said.

"Well, you definitely are something." Gene couldn't believe what he'd been hearing though it would have been a lie to say that anything Taiga said surprised him. When a person simply refused to listen to the reasoning of their superiors, those with leagues of experience with which to pull and teach from, often times Taiga's very outlook would be the result. It didn't matter how much latent ability one possessed if they lacked the mental fortitude necessary to keep such power in check - respectfully. No, it wasn't that Taiga had been passed over for any sort of promotion; it was that because of his outlooks, beliefs and methods of handling tasks there'd been no feasible reason to promote him as he'd proven incapable of handling responsibility. Had the council errored in selecting him as a host? Gene wondered about this in a deep silence as he observed his former squad mate bouncing from foot to foot in what he saw as an erratic fashion.

"Far be it for me to say how you should live your life but the bottle is gone now. I've done my service to the community," Gene took a few steps toward an exposed log post and thought to study it for... something, but opted to keep his eyes on the inebriated man at his back instead. Nothing good could come of turning one's back on the jealous and envious, this was a lesson that the Silver Leaf had learned time and time again during what few travels outside of the country he'd had and a lesson he would not soon forget. Besides, there was something else that had been troubling him.

Taiga seemed to think himself untouchable. He believed firmly that there was no one or anything that could humble him and Gene took great offense to this due to a deep understanding of how the world worked. If the man could not see that his power were not comparable to the legends of old and that in Konoha, it was teamwork that made things progress then what really was his worth as a ninja? So he had nobody growing up, lacked a support system but was that an excuse to then deny the importance of one outright?

Perhaps a lesson needed to be taught here but Gene questioned if he should be the one to do it. Violence in his past had never seemed to work well but there could be no denying the fact that Taiga hardly had ever been the person to listen to clear reason. Gene believed that if he'd tried to reach the man with his words that they'd only be taken as him trying to appear superior - a precarious position to be in, certainly. How then, could he reach this youth? It was at that exact moment that Gene found himself asking a question that might have shaped his destiny forever.

Lord Hokage... What would you do in a situation like this?

As if soberness had instantly washed over the young man- or as if perhaps he had never been that drunk, given the small size of the bottle and the godly stamina he was granted by the Genma, Taiga's eyes tightened as he stood straight and peered straight at Gene. The alchol had given him a buzz at best- but the anger deep inside of him towards Gene... That was something that had existed in him for a very long time. Perhaps, since their days in the academy. He wondered when Gene would truly recognize him as an equal. After all- all of this. His rush to Bannin- his desire to be Hokage. It had all been because of one thing, whether he had the guts to admit or not.

Gene.

Their rivalry- his desire for the only bond he had ever had growing up to acknowledge his strength.... had fueled him to this point. It had kept him from breaking even when the Genma relented of how useless he was.
"Something? I'll show you some thing..." the young mad said as he stepped forward slowly until he was in Genes face, his eyes almost looking straight into the other boys.

"You did a service no one wanted, needed, nor asked for, as per usual Gene. Will you ever stop looking down your nose at us all long enough to realize that maybe we don't actually need you and we can take care of ourselves." he said as the anger seeped into his voice. Despite him saying "us" and "we" knowing Fanho and the others were often frustrated by Gene- he really wanted to replace it all with "me" and "I".

Gene seemed to think himself untouchable. He believed firmly that there was no one or anything that knew more than him, and in his infinite wisdom, realized that there were beings on this earth far older, wiser, and greater than he. One of those beings was within Taiga. Taiga had seen war. He'd lost comrades. He'd had all the experiences Gene had and some even more- as a host. Unlike Gene, from day one he was not a prodigy. The world kicked him down. Beat him down. The council- everyone. No one ever bet on Taiga. No one ever chose him.

He realized that Gene was never going to stop looking down on him Fanho and the others. Not until he was made to understand his power. Their power. This was the world he had unfortunately been born into.

He stepped closer, cocking back his head and slamming it forward full force into Genes so that there headbands would collide with such force it would spark, likely knocking them both apart in the process. Assuming the unexpected move would have worked- the collateral damage would leave some blood dripping down the side of Taiga's forehead.

It was not a move meant to be real combat- it was much more symbolic.

"I'll make you see what I do- even if I have to beat it from my head to yours..." Taiga said

Gene took notice of Taiga's shift in posture, the change in his eyes... but made no mention of it. He'd seen that look before and knew that there would be no talking things out moving forward. Whatever decision had been made in silence within Taiga's mind, Gene realized, would not be thrown off course with a stern talking to. Or rather, if they could be then Gene simply had not yet reached a point where providing such words was possible on his end. There was one thing that he could say for certain, though; deciding not to turn his back on Taiga earlier had proved to be one of the smartest decisions that he could make for if he hadn't then he would not have been able to observe the gait of his former team member, something that had made him aware that things could possibly get physical.

Where Taiga attempted to stand in Gene's personal space, the latter stepped around him in a circling manner, sure to keep Taiga just out of arm's reach despite his height advantage. All the while he'd begun tracking the man with his eyes, following and studying Taiga's body language intently for signs that he may try something outrageous and sure enough, he did. Once where the distance had been accidentally closed between them, Gene noticed that Taiga started to wind his head back but could not say for what purpose. Then it happened; the man had attempted to headbutt Gene in what was certainly a...interesting display at best but largely unexpected. There truly would be no talking this one out after all.

As Taiga's head approached, Gene sidestepped rightward, twisting his body in such a way that placed his right shoulder next to the man allowing Gene to sway diagonally backwards to narrowly dodge the blow. "You really want to do this?" Asked Gene, his tone a mixture of curiosity and building resolve. This would not be like his sparring session with Kazuo or any lecture that he'd ever received. Knowing full well of just what lay dormant within the Sarutobi clan member Gene understood that a fight with an angered Taiga could very well mean a fight for his life.

Gene questioned himself while entering the Strong fist stance instinctively. Was fighting against Taiga now truly okay? Sure, in the past he might have been willing to go to bat with him just based off the merit that they were indeed rivals...but Taiga was a host to a spirit beast now. He was like Minoru. That in and of itself made matters more complicated and the thought remained at the forefront of Gene's mind. How could he handle this scenario, he wondered.

"Be prepared to take a beating," Gene taunted. He was going to see just how determined Taiga truly was and if that determination could overcome his hardwork.

After all this time had Gene never even once considered how strong Taiga and the others were too? From Taiga's point of view Gene's ego had completely altered his perception of reality to a point where he was not being fair to his comrades- he was not acknowledging how far they had come. Sure- Taiga had once been the village idiot but he had no risen to legendary proportions of strength. As a shinobi he could match a Kage alone in a physical altercation... As a Jinchuuriki he had become something else completely. He grit his teeth as he stepped forward to perform into Gene's space. Gene, who was no push over, knew an attack was coming. Taiga knew that much the moment he started circling and keeping space between him. So- it would be no surprise to him if the other young man would attempt to dodge his next action.

This was to expected of Gene, one of the elites of their village. No gesture as grand as his would be hidden enough to strike... while Taiga did not know the full extent of Gene's roles, he knew he was into something that often meant files Taiga or the others didnt get to read... Which mean Gene if anything was a cautious man who knew how to case a room and everyone in it at all times. His eyes followed as his focus went to a razor point on Genes movements.

A voice echoed in his head. "Show him..." his own voice joined the mysterious breeding, deep one in perfect harmony. "what we are made of."

Gene would sidestep, but Taiga would pivot flawlessly with Gene while also charging forward using the momentum and rapid build up he had. Momentum was in his favour, since he was already moving by the time Gene was beginning to dodge- and likewise he was moving backwards whereas Taiga was moving forwards- something that made it that much more easier to get the edge. That said, Taiga's strike wasn't meant to horribly injure or even harm- but rather to symbolically transmit his will.

Beyond his skill in pivoting without a loss of momentum- he would apply one of the core facets of the martial art he invented, Konoha no Senken, called Tempo which made advantage of those retreating back, allowing you to press the attack and control the tempo of battle- even force defensive movements as a means of creating offensive openings.

"Get it through your thick skull" Taiga growled as he pressed his strike.

"You're not untouchable by the rest of us"

Whether or not by happenstance or due to proper movement and footwork Gene found himself in a position to deliver his first crucial blow. By first stepping aside he'd already taken preemptive steps less as a trained fighter and more out of a habit for survival noticing immediately that his opponent intended to pursue. It had not donned on Taiga that by pivoting in that exact moment, he'd quite literally exposed himself to the dominant left hand of Gene. The fool, thought Konoha's silver leaf as he kept his restraints and abstained from what may have resulted in a clean knock out. If there had been any doubts in his mind about the aggressive intentions of the man before him they were surely cleared away now.

Twisting his body then, while seemingly elementary in its application had immediately afforded Gene a second opportunity of which he hardly intended to let slip by. Not after realizing that Taiga fully intended to keep coming at him either until the man was knocked down or once whatever point he'd been trying to make had been proved. That was after all, the nature of the beast in these kinds of scenarios. Where his left arm now drifted away, Gene's right arm; more aptly, his right shoulder, now faced Taiga directly. He could jab in this moment, keep Taiga from advancing further by cracking his nose but he didn't.

Only a keen observer might have picked up on the subtle signs that Gene had been deliberately pulling his punches but none could ascertain his reasons for doing so. It was clear that Taiga had meant to do him harm, to in some method beyond any sane man's reasoning bring about shame and deflemation to the Silver-haired jounin's character or reputation which would have been more than enough reason to strike and strike hard for any other person yet, Gene didn't. Instead, he'd continue to display a level of calm and calculated restraint well deserving of his rank as a Jounin while observing Taiga's growing fury. Somewhere in a report and on numerous occasions by Taiga himself (To Gene's dismay) there were statements made that he'd successfully tamed that demon spirit dwelling within him. Looking at how the man so bashfully charged forward now and how earlier he seemed incapable of displaying any other emotion other than brooding, Gene began to question the validity of such sentiments.

In fact, Taiga wasn't the only one. Another of the Jinchuuriki whom he'd encountered in the past also displayed similar patterns of behavior during combat which led Gene to question if whether or not having a spirit reside within the village was such a bright idea on behalf of the Hokage and Council. Clearly, the methods of discipline that had been put in place were not working and if anything, the only thing managed to be accomplished by housing them was that their anger and outburst were put into full view of the public. Granted, such matters were well above his day rank pay grade and he'd certainly lose no sleep had either up and vanished from the community one day but the question needed to be posed: Just what were those responsible for these archetypes actually doing with their time? Providing stability and discipline obviously were not on the agenda and Gene couldn't help but wonder, how long it would be before another incident like the one that had befallen Minoru, happened again? An air of intensity enveloped Gene now as another realization struck him like a fast moving baseball.

When he had approached Taiga earlier he'd found the man a drunken, sloppy wreck of a man but held the thought close to his chest. Had Gene known that this was the same individual who'd traveled outside of the village in order to train with monks and see the ways of the world beyond, he'd have been thrust into a state of violent outrage. He'd have slammed Fanho for standing by as the man drank himself into a stupor and certainly, he'd have ushered the spectating child elsewhere because no good could come of a youth watching the fallout of those said to be their seniors on the Chain of command. What Gene did not yet understand was that when he looked at Taiga, he'd been looking at the embodiment of Konoha's greatest failures. He'd been looking into the face of negligence.

Having done well enough at maintaining a reasonable distance from Taiga thus far it'd been a simple task to rely upon a combination of swift footwork and technical skill to maneuver himself out of harm's way - for the second time. Once it'd become clear that this adversary held no intention of relenting in their charge, Gene made it a point to make them pay for it. Despite withholding a strike using his forward facing arm (right arm) both Taiga's charge and his intent to drive his skull forward made it a simple enough task for Gene to make a swift attempt at yanking the man's hood forward and over his eyes. If successful, this single act would have not only blinded Taiga long enough for Gene to strafe around his left side to take his back but it'd have completely offset the man's own momentum by forcefully tugging him forward possibly throwing him off balance in a stumbling albeit humorous display. Even if Gene had not been able to successfully grab the hoodie for some reason, his hand would still raise and he held no qualms about simply poking Taiga in his eyes as he advanced to accomplish what he needed to do.

By his opponent being in full charge anyhow, it might have been difficult even with skillful techniques to break his own momentum outright though Gene was fully prepared to take advantage of that scenario as well. In the event that Taiga hesitated even for a moment, Gene would exercise his speed and technique to maneuver himself out of striking range and around Taiga's left side in a flanking movement; it'd be almost as if the Silver haired Jounin had been dancing around a raging bull, eager to tear into him with sharp pointed horns. Meanwhile, Gene presented few if any openings for Taiga to take clear advantage of; he did not barge in recklessly nor did he make wild swings or leaps of which would leave him vulnerable to counter striking, doing so went against the very foundation of what was taught even at the basic Academy level for Genin graduates (though some never truly learned). Either way, whether by tugging the man's hood or simply poking him dead in the eyes, Gene's ultimate goal was to circle Taiga and continue creating space. Forcing an opportunity to do so if necessary.

He would not be caught in a continuous retreat which had generally been the intent of most rush type antics and considering the fact that Gene hadn't actually been moving backwards but forward to begin with, he'd pretty much dampened the effectiveness of such strategies by ensuring that should Taiga continue giving chase in a brawler type fashion, he'd end up flanked and summarily worn out by his own method of fighting. And since neither his attempt to yank Taiga's hood or the attempt at poking his eyes, were specifically meant to stop the male from advancing forward it'd become quite clear to any seasoned observer that the Jounin seemed to recognize his situation and took full advantage of what he could.

"Is this your will of Fire?" Gene mused, fighting back an emotion that he hadn't yet truly identified. Something akin to pity but more closely resembling disappointment. He'd realized that Taiga had been far too consumed in a need to prove himself, to be "better" than Gene as opposed to contributing toward Konoha's infrastructure and policies as a Genma host. In fact, ever since they'd met this seemed to be a reoccurring problem that often led to senseless disputes between the two. As a Jounin, it was Gene's responsibility to correct any such character flaws in himself less he send a squadron of Shinobi to their demise on a mission but Taiga, Taiga seemed not to care who or what he damaged as long as he got his way. Gene had managed to remove a bottle of alcohol from him in an effort to help the man when no one else would only to be berated just seconds later when no one else seemed to care about the Sarutobi family member and it was that instance that gave Gene an insight as to the framework of Taiga's mind. He was too full of resentment, resentment toward Gene specifically and toward the Hokage to be of any use to anyone; any leaps in power that Taiga had made were vastly eclipsed by a childish self destructive nature whether by his own volition or the influence of the spirit using his body as a vessel.

I don't have time for this shit, thought Gene to himself. Fighting Taiga now served no purpose but Gene had also realized to try brushing the man aside would only result in a much worse result down the line. He needed to prolong the exchange just long enough for Taiga to feel like he'd accomplished something all the while giving him nothing - a simple enough task if he were able to call upon some of his other techniques but Gene was significantly limited in this exchange. He could not make for a killing blow against Taiga due to their affiliation and he also could not risk exposing the nature of his techniques to prying eyes; he hadn't forgotten that there was a youth in attendance before things had kicked off and frankly, displaying any kind of malicious intent before them would set a poor precedent for Konoha's Shinobi force - that was something Gene simply would not allow. And so, whether he wished for it or not Gene was locked in this battle with no simple solution.

Mentally he chastised himself for having been caught in a childish game. He'd prided himself on exercising a level of foresight befitting an operative but today that shrewdness had left him. A rookie mistake, surely; but one he would learn from nonetheless. With his eyes trained to the opponent before him Gene remained light on his feet and deeply aware of the environment not wanting to be caught unaware in the event that Taiga decided to make use of that strange phasing ability that he'd displayed in Fur country. Knowing that had he chose to do so Taiga could make the battle that much more difficult Gene kept his senses sharp and allowed nothing to escape his watchful gaze.

D-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
A neutral stance taken by even entry level practitioners. This stance involves turning your body to be perpendicular to your opponent. One foot is rested directly in front of the other with just the toes in contact with the ground. A hand is held back while the other is forward, pointing up. This stance provides ease of dodging incoming blows by using the least amount of motion possible while still being ready to launch into an attack.

Heh. Of course.

Taiga thought to himself as Gene once more narrowly side-stepped him. Though he had been setting a tempo to mirror Gene's every movement and follow even his side-steps it seemed no momentum, advantage in acceleration, or even forward motion would give him an edge against the miraculously dodging skills the silver-haired leaf shinobi had built up over the years. It did not help that a head butt was a very easily tele-graphable motion, but, that was more than fine. Taiga's direct combat but unique abilities and way of thinking made him a wild card... and also best suited for fighting the extremely "disciplined" shinobi who spent all their time on technique and theory. He would penalize Gene for underestimating his movements.

Gene had all this time viewed the world in a very linear way. Taiga, on the other hand, saw the world in spirals and fractals and shapes that did not always make logical sense, but that sometimes gave a unique insight into the matter at hand. If any two shinobi in the village had ever been better foils to each other, it was unknown to Taiga.

There was a million strikes that Gene could do- and but Taiga knew there was no point in trying to guess or make a million counter-plans of himself. What point was what ifs? What point was thinking about what he could do when he did not actually do it? Wasting time to think of a million different plans was more time you were not living in the moment and directly acting on instinct in battle. That was not to say he was not keen- in fact he was razor focused on Gene's movements and having the bond they did he was not oblivious to Gene's ways of fighting to know that the man was still holding back.

You don't get it but you treat me like an inferior child- even in the way you fight me. Taiga thought to himself as rage continued to boilover, but in its wake leaving him in a strange sense of calm. He knew why he didn't like Gene. Why they were always at each others neck... but did Gene get anything about him? It was clear he didn't. Taiga would play right into Gene's excessive hubris. Taiga began to become one with the earth as Gene moved to counter-attack his missed headbutt.

You will acknowledge me... as I always acknowledged you.

1...

Gene pulled the hood over Taiga's head- though blind him it would not as the earth was his domain. And finally, as he moved swifty to the side on the flak, pulling the hood as a leash, exerting his strength and tug into it while simultaneously moving... the leash on Taiga would instead become a link to Gene. In that split moment when Gene exerted his force and moved off of his stable footing for the strafe, Taiga would use the surprise of Gene's inability to tug him, and would pivot using his full momentum and force as his body turned to the earthen stone, whilst exerting his full strength.

2...

The rigidness of his stone body only aided and reinforced his physicality in preventing against Gene's aim of putting force on his head and neck to pull him.

3..

Taiga's own pivot would send his fist right into a mid-strafe/step Gene, aimed for his gut. Pushing with all his might, but not enough to do lasting damage, he would aim only to throw a warning punch, one that said.

Don't discount me.

Should it connect, he was sure Gene would understand the feelings which his words had failed to convey... though perhaps it was not the time or place the two needed to stop running from each other. Gene's toxicity and insistent belief of him being the the true shinobi of the leaf- of everyone being below him, and only his way being right... had been a constant thorn in the growth of Konohagakure.

Too many comrades had their spirits crushed by one of the leafs so-called hero... that to Taiga, words wouldn't have had any success anyways.

His will of fire was flawed beyond belief, even if Taiga did not know what the will of fire was to himself, he knew that. The village lacked the light it had once had in its former kage and bannin. It had been shrouded in darkness, closet deals, and "things needed for survival" without a thought of the soul of the village.

Konoha no Senken • Tempo
D-Rank Discipline Taijutsu
Drawing it's inspiration from the famed ever advancing movement of Konoha's Gouken, Konoha no Senken practitioners ingrain in-themselves a way of positioning and moving their body that constantly advances upon the opponent, allowing attack after attack fluidly and giving the opponent little option to flee. Practitioners are ultimately capable of using this way of advancing on their opponent to control the tempo of the battle and move it where they desire, causing interruption to opponent defensive stances.

Konoha no Senken • The Monkey Sees
B-Rank Discipline Taijutsu
Humans follow patterns and in combat this is no exception, ranging from taijutsu to hand seals. Patterns already being easier to remember, Taiga has worked hard at actively committing whatever he sees to his short-term memory. This allows him to remember things such as the beginning torque to a kick or a hand seal pattern after seeing it once, so that he can recognize the technique if used later in a battle, giving him an advantage in anticipating his opponents next action and effectively making an opponent’s consecutive usage of a technique a liability.

Konoha no Senken • Dance of the Falling Leaf/b]
B-Rank Discipline Taijutsu
The only limit to the speed of which Taiga control his body, via rapid acceleration or assimilation, is the speed in which his mind can physically send the impulse to his body to do so. With Taiga's high body control, he has trained and honed his mind and body to be as one, capable of reacting near the speed of thought in terms of controlling himself. This allows him to create interesting attacks by rapidly changing his movement patterns while fighting.

Konoha no Senken • Soaring Swallow
C-Rank Maneuver Taijutsu
Inspired by the Flying Swallow styled boxing of the Sarutobi's family, when an opponent lunges or charges forward, the practitioner will pivot on the foot matching the forward foot of their opponent and spin in the opposite direction. Depending on the speed performed, this causes the opponent to miss the practitioner, who then uses the momentum from the pivot to deliver a powerful hook to the opponent, intending to blind side them with intense power.

Phantom Sensory
C-Rank Discipline Taijutsu
Through training Taiga has gained the ability when merged with something to feel the things one would feel on their own back or body: points of pressure, force, and temperature through the object. This is like a second-nature for him. An example of usage being feeling vibrations to a point where based on the weight and distribution of pressure, he could differentiate a dog from a human on a surface. Taiga can spread his sense of touch (feel) through a variety of objects or surfaces when merged. The range of this technique is limited to the size of the object or surface he has merged with. Damage to a surface will not cause damage to Taiga as the sensations are not 1:1.

Gene had managed to succeed in pulling Taiga's hood over his eyes, blocking the man's line of visual sight temporarily. While he could never have known that the Jinchuuriki had found a method of searching for him via the vibrations generated via Earth, even that advantage could not make up for one's physical line of sight. Still images and vibrations were far from real time and perhaps it had been for this reason that the strike aimed at Gene's stomach fell short. So, he's improved his speed since our squad disbanded. Or maybe, he's always been this fast?

Gene couldn't help but wonder about what he'd just observed because this was his first time actually fighting Taiga. They'd never participated in Shinobi Kumite whether due to Minoru's distrust or Kazuo's lack of interest in the matter but now... Things were different. Even though the blow had missed him Gene could feel its immense force as a gust of wind jostled his Haori and there was no need to question what kind of trouble he'd be in should that strike have met its target only reaffirming what Gene already believed. Taiga, in his desire to prove something, would go to any measure and that was detrimental to Konoha...they could not fight here. "A little intense for a sparring match, don't you think?" Posing the question with an even tone and narrowed eyes, Gene realized that Taiga's entire body took on the properties of Earth now.

So, it's already begun. If we fight here then there may be serious repercussions but I can't really see any other way around this one. If I'm not mistaken, he can travel near instantaneously over and underground...but what if there was a weakness to his ability? Recognizing his disadvantage for exactly what it was the Jounin begun to think about potential ways of defeating Taiga. Finding no immediate solutions, he decided to stall for time. "I mean really," he began as his mind worked in overdrive, "You've gotten so riled up that your relying on that power; Surely you don't mean to kill me, do you Taiga?"

Not that he intended on letting such a thing happen but Gene needed to buy time. He needed Taiga to doubt his own intentions and if nothing else, delay pressing an assault at least until the Jounin had figured out a means of completely disarming that pesky phasing ability. Think Gene, think! You know that he can phase in and out of the Earth and that doing so grants him a huge power boost or at the very least, a definitive advantage he can use. You also know that using that same ability, he can enter the body of another person but there are limits and not only that, but he has one other ability...

Despite his chatter and many, many thoughts about his current situation Gene never allowed his guard to slip. Now aware of Taiga's change in composition he'd all but resolved himself to focusing on how the environment may or may not have changed. In particular, he paid special attention to the area directly beneath his feet knowing that with Taiga's skillset he could have just as easily made staying grounded an arduous task. Gene had faced many opponents and even spirits of the likes this world had never seen but none of them were of the class of a Genma host and this realization played constantly in the back of his mind. In some ways, the Jounin even considered such a challenge as a test of his skills as a Shinobi regardless if whether or not he actually favored the Sarutobi who'd housed the spirit.

Planning his next move Gene prepared himself for a fierce second wave.

Taiga didn't need eyes at all to know exactly where Gene was. His immense willpower in turn mean an immense ability to focus and tune out all the distraction of this world- and the blinding itself would have no psychological impact on him. As a shinobi and master of genjutsu he knew that moves meant to blind often had much more than a physical effect. Being blind... being alone in the dark. It had psychological effects especially on the uninitiated. But, he had been to the absolute depths of insanity as a beast had raged in his body. He had suffered grievous loss and heart break, and nothing would ever break his will again like Yaku and Enma had when they murdered his uncle.

He's there.

The pressure, the teetering of balance and switching of the legs. It was all a very obvious tell, especially at this close a range. There was no doubt where Gene was in relation to him. The wind on his cloak built up even more as he moved- and smoke came off of his body. While he no longer needed to visually transform himself into the genma to get its abilities, the smoke was always a slight tell. If he wanted to control it, he was sure he could stop the release of smoke, but at the same point, every jutsu every thing he did created the smokey chakra that flowed of his body. To any opponent short of a superb sensor, they would never be able to sense any difference.

If he had been fast to Gene before, he would now be incredible. (+8 Chakra Pool, +7 Speed, +5 Strength, +5 Control (57 speed)) Gene could goad him all day, or infer that this was anything more than a spar, but Taiga knew that he couldn't possibly be so dense to believe that he was going all out to end him. Least, Taiga had believed this. He had hoped that his comrade and teammate had trusted in his ability enough to know he was in control at all times. This was perhaps a fatal flaw- the trust Taiga placed in Gene. If he had thought even slightly more about he would know that Gene had never believed in him- this was why he was fighting, so his own logic was contradictory.

Alas, he was human.

Time now moved like things had slowed around Taiga- like seconds had lengthened to tens of. As his strike missed but made a clear impact as a warning he would disengage out to the side leaving enough space that he could react if need be. The sheer speed he was moving at would cause the wind to knock his hood back off his face on its own. He would not lose the chance of pressing a clear advantage on Gene with h is current speed, but would make sure to be ready to kite and keep space as his hands sealing at an extraordinary pace. When the seals were complete he would go in to strike his opponent- while changing his body to the same material as the earth beneath his feet.

The truth was Gene had known very little about Taiga, his genma abilities, or just what he could do, and without sensory, the fact his whole body had just turned to earth as if he covered himself in stone would merely seem like his hand seals were him committing to a rock armor to go full out. In reality though- Taiga had prepared a new skill that nobody in the village but himself had knew he had trained.

You see, he didn't need the Genma's powers. It was merely a compliment to his own. His own power was something he had build in a short span of months, a testament to the fact that perhaps his whole life he had teachers who had ignored the latent talent within him. But also, it was a talent he had built in fear. Fear of one man, who by the same very power, had executed his dear Uncle Shou. Shou saved a bunch of kids and died a hero... but Taiga had been outside the village at the time and could not help but feel guilty.

Guilt that was honestly nonsensical, given a kid at the time had no chance of defeating to S-Rank MN that even almost killed the Hokage. Taiga clicked his teeth as he would suddenly sink to the ground- something Gene would be keenly aware of, and if not, he would use to surprise attack and knock him hard.

As he sank into the ground his words called out.

"I don't intend to harm anyways, just show you the error of your ways Cloud Watcher." Taiga's voice, laced with the hazy sound and grumbling voice of the Genma would say.

This was his gamble. His parable.

"Hey kid, you are overdoing it, but I wouldn't mind if you punched that brat for me." Sukairaa said with a chuckle.
"Hey, Suuu-chan, I'd love nothing more than to just hit him once. Just one little pay back punch for years of his abuse... but I don't think I will actually need to harm him to prove my point here today."

Either Gene saw his attack coming and did something about it, falling prey to a genjutsu which he could have know knowledge of, or if he for some reason decided to ignore the mans lunging into the ground he would leave himself terribly open.

As wind surged like a violent gale storm around the training grounds, Gene considered what his next move would be. Biting the insides of his cheek, for the first time since fighting against Takeo he'd felt a pressure welling inside of him. Gene had believed that he could take Taiga on without resorting to ninjutsu but that thought was proving to be more troublesome than he would have liked to admit. Add to this the fact that Gene hadn't actually been looking for a fight in the first place only made the uncomfortable situation more tense - it was just the sort of situation that Taiga and some others, hoped for. An opportunity to catch the Cloud watcher off his square but even off kilter, the Jounin was not one to be pushed over so easily.

In the same exact moment that Taiga had separated to create space for weaving his signs, Gene leapt backward in an effort to put an additional four meter distance between them; mid-leap, placing either index and middle fingers over two Fuinjutsu sealing formulas along the underside of his worn gauntlets. What ever he had planned, Gene would not be able to accomplish before Taiga phased into the ground, activating his Genjutsu by the time Gene's feet touched the ground again. I should have known... Gene thought as pain coursed through his body beginning at the ankles and gradually working its way up throughout the rest of his being. Since he'd never broken a bone, the intense feeling that his limbs were being crushed was one that he could not easily set aside and if not for a strong knack for paying attention to his environment and place within it, Gene would have missed the fact that the hands that gripped his person were not bubbling off his body in a nasty, painful acidic display.

Damn...to be caught in a Genjutsu while paying attention, I'm beginning to lose my touch. Luckily, he didn't know about these.. Gene thought in reference to the recently acquired and worn Ankan's greaves. While their cursed nature still was largely a mystery to the Jounin he'd become aware of their unique properties and in this situation, where his limbs were being crushed, their strange and unusual effect would prove to be potentially life saving. Gene raised his hands, forming the Ram hand sign as quick as his limbs could move while willing his troubled chakra into a Kai in order to release Taiga's influence over him. Hopefully, he could free himself quickly enough to remain an active component in this battle but he was not so naive to think that he'd be able to perform at max after the strong sensation of having his limbs broken being introduced to him.

Gene's legs shook visibly and as he fought to reacclimate himself, Taiga's whereabouts were still vastly unknown. He could have leaned upon his own Sensory capabilities but this entire match, at least where he'd been concerned, had been primed to enduring as much punishment as possible while conserving chakra. After all, it was for that reason Gene still abstained from using Ninjutsu despite knowing that he had every right to do so. Genjutsu on the other hand? Perhaps that was something to think about. After all, Taiga had just proved its effectiveness by slowing him down; Gene thought, what if he could do the same?

Matters were much worse than Gene had initially realized, however. Despite catching the illusion in what may have been its early stages, Gene's body was not physically able to withstand the force imposed and even with Kai, he couldn't simply shake off the feeling introduced. While his mind had told him to continue fighting, Gene would eventually drop down to a knee, his ankles shaking visibly and a cold sweat pouring from his body. "So...this is my limit, then?" Even if he wanted to, Gene realized that he would not be able to stand for a counter should Taiga choose to assault him now and that fact was deeply troubling. He didn't like feeling so...helpless? Vulnerable. Just as he were about to resign himself to a fate Gene heard the words of Minoru echo within his mind.

Never stop being a shinobi.

True. He couldn't move his legs and that may have made him an easier stationary target but Gene's chakra reserves were vastly full and his assessment capabilities did not suffer as a result of having his ankles crushed. He knew that Taiga had gone into the ground which meant that he would rise eventually, from the ground as well. Knowing that he was a target and a key piece of information regarding the tactics of his opponent, Gene decided to weave his signs for a jutsu. No sooner had his hands began sealing did Gene's hair sprout wildly from his head in waves of spiked segments that seemed to cover his entire body like a cocoon. Now, his hair appeared wild, and was rigid like stone spikes or spears but also seemed to cover the Jounin's entire body. Once formed, the spiked hair disconnected leaving Gene's original length of hair in tact though the Jounin was not done yet. Channeling Chakra now, he placed a hand over the rigid construct of his own hair and imbued it with his energy; arming it as though the strangs of rigid white follicles were some kind of boody trap to be sprung - and they were.

Gene had intended for the combination of specialized jutsu to be able to keep his opponent at bay for some time in order for him to recover from what effects the Genjutsu had caused but this too, was wishful thinking. He knew not of Taiga's skill set and at the most, wanted to by a few extra minutes of recovery time before getting back into the action if possible. Following Minoru's advice, Gene would never stop being a Shinobi even in the face of hardship.

[Ninjutsu • Underworld of Guardian Spikes]
B-Ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will cause their hair to rapidly grow and cocoon their body for protection. The hair does this at a speed & Strength equal to Gene's Control and when done, will have formed thick layers of rigid hair to protect the user from attacks. Upon completely cocooning the user, the hair disconnects from the user's hair, leaving it at it's original length.

[Ninjutsu • Rattrap Mach 2]
B-Ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will imbue an item with their chakra that is no larger than their person. The next thing to touch the object within 3 posts will feel the chakra lurch off the object, surging into their body and overwhelming them. For those with less than [Control] Strength they will find themselves immobile for the next 5 posts. If the target that touches the object has [Control] or higher Strength, they will find themselves unaffected.

The corners of Taiga's lips tightened slightly towards that of a grin, but not quite. A sense of calm had oddly overtaken him in the heat of battle. While this spar had never been planned or on his radar- Gene had destroyed his property and interfered in his day. That much had elicited his desire to fight- but any hard feelings were gone the second the two had engaged in kumite.

Words had only ever seemed to cause friction between the two, yet in the methodic dances of combat as the two weaved back and forth he found peace. The ebb and flow of combat- the call and response of actions. It was poetry through action and while the two were still quite restrained in their combat- it was clear that they possessed a knowledge, an instinct, a will beyond their peers. The two boys had become men capable of holding a stick to the Kages themselves. His eyes quick to lock onto Gene's defensive action of using his fleeting moments as the Genjutsu took hold to defend himself, Taiga thought of who they once were.

You've come along way since Fur Gene.
"And you a long way since those tigers in the forest- brat." the Genma chimed in.

As the hair took hold around Gene and began to harden Taiga was quick to react and seal his hands flying in a flurry at his full speed as he kept his distance, but suddenly dipped his leg into the ground for just a moment. Gene was not only stuck to the ground by the genjutsu, but the defense meant to buy him a moment meant he had no mobility- and no visibility.

Clever. Can't genjutsu him from in there, and I don't fully know what is going on inside that hair cocoon. Taiga thought to himself. Gene was befitting of his title of Jounin, there was no doubt to that. Taiga's jutsu however would cause the ground to suddenly open up, absorbing the cacoon down into it. The cacoon would sink slightly enough so that it was submerged up to about Gene's shoulders would have been. The displaced earth would be crumple up around it, putting pressure on the cocoon, making the earth around it extra dense- and also making contact with it.

Unbeknownst to Taiga however a jutsu had been formed on the cocoon, which would release it's chakra into the first thing that contacted it as it fizzled out into the ground around it and Taiga would only make it to where about Gene's elbows would have been not fully submerging him as planned due to the interruption. Nevertheless, that was enough.

In the brief moment that Gene's other jutsu would be discharged into the earth, Taiga would waste no time dropping his interrupted jutsu and transitioning to strike at full speed, rushing forward to the cocoon and phasing through it, aiming to rip Gene out of it and tossing him up into the air. He was done with this fight and saw no more need to continue it.

Assuming this was succesfully he would instantly kick off the ground and put massive distance with his speed between the two before turning his back to Gene.

"I'm going to get something to drink and some more alcohol. You are welcome to join."

[Digger]
C-Rank Ninjutsu
After phasing a body part into a material and channeling into it, Taiga will manipulate the source material in a 10 meter radius. Taiga can utilize this technique to create pot holes or phase items on top of the ground into the ground to bury them. This happens at a speed equal to his [Control] and requires full focus preventing him from doing other jutsu or techniques while shaping things.

[Contact Assimilation]
B-Rank Stance Taijutsu
After making contact with an eligible piece of solid matter and making contact with another party or item, Taiga will utilize his Genma abilities to assimilate himself and the target, for as long as contact is maintained. After assimilation, both parties will be able to "phase through" or "merge through" objects matching the materials he has assimilated. Breaking contact at anytime will cancel this effect and cause the other party to be "ejected" out of the object they are in unharmed. This technique must be used with a discipline for the appropriate material he is merging with.

Due to being struck with more strength and speed than what was able to be withstood, Gene Mitsurugi is killed on the training field. Landing lifelessly on the ground in a broken, damaged heep.

First off, you made up a jutsu on the spot and trained it out of nowhere. That is ridiculous. When in combat, in a losing situation, you cannot just invent a new jutsu to get out of it.

Next, my jutsu are going to finish before yours, meaning the moment rattrap casts and cancels I am lurching forward for you- meaning I do not know how you have time to get off a B-rank jutsu with a guy at 55 speed leaping at you from a relatively close distance.

Third: nowhere in this jutsu does it say it leaves holes for you eyes- it says it completely surrounds you .. LIkewise your original post made no mention of this. You do not get to, two posts later, say that it didnt cover your eyes because it is now convient for you to have it not.

You quite literally described it covering your ENTIRE body.

I could go on and on- but thats enough for now.

I think it's lame that you're willing to stop a rp sequence because things didn't go how you thought they would. Twice now you've written attacks as absolute occurrences either with the intention of providing no no means for my character to respond or blatantly forcing something to happen in your post (i.e the headbutt situation). As it is perfectly acceptable to train techniques in a social thread, and being that this is a social not some mission or a real fight as you've said before, training is entirely plausible. Add to this the fact that said jutsu remained entirely within the spectrum of reliance to a parent technique and in game, as far as the characters are concerned, this development sustains an entirely logical approach. Not gonna say that I'd wish you would have just asked for details before making any assumptions but yeah, should have done that. It isn't written in the guardian spike jutsu that it blocks vision - nor do I believe that was the intent of the archive jutsu.

It is plain common sense that this is not a training thread nor is it for training. Zero participants, including yourself, ever trained a jutsu until now.
It is kind of a given, in a thread where you are engaging in combat and a thread that from the very beginning was never a "training thread". It is very clear you mean to abuse some gray space in socials in order to just make up a jutsu that fits your need in the moment- further more, that jutsu has not been approved or even checked by mods, so forcing others to comply by it is even further bad manners and bad play. If you want to talk about lame take one moment to once, just for once, consider your own actions Strategist.

Second; again you will not have time to invent a new technique, and perform a B-rank technique, before a 55 speed character near by gets to you, who already has the leg up on you given his jutsu finished before your previous set. I highly call that into doubt.

Third;

It isn't written in the guardian spike jutsu that it blocks vision - nor do I believe that was the intent of the archive jutsu. More than anything I believe that making a scene is entirely unnecessary. A kids game should never be so heated.
I am going to ignore the irony of the behavioural aspects of this all and just say this.

Zero assumption was made. Your jutsu does not say that it allows your eyes to see. You have, ironically, made the assumption it does. You do not get to choose when to twist text for your favor, strat. In fact, it specifically says it COMPLETELY covers and cocoons the user in thick layers of rigid hair.

Your jutsu, your words from your post. So, a post or two later deciding to change it and write in that you can see cause you made sure to have eye holes is pretty dirty, strat.

If you want to accuse me of making things personal, than personally attack me, then by all means go for it but the fact of the matter here is that you simply won't be able to do what you are saying in your post. That's why I am raising concern. Notice I do not do it every post, nor did I do it in any other threads we ever did together.

There is no need to get my way- if you have a viable legit way out of what I am doing, I am more than happy to grant it to you and go with it. The fact of the matter is you do not though. shrug

A five point differential at end game is stated to be negligible during combat and is entirely contextual in its application; citing an earlier mention of this would be from a post stating that Gene in fact, could visually follow Taiga with his eyes if he chose to do so. I believe that both characters are channeling techniques where one is basic channeling [Taiga's stuff is basic channel afaik] while Gene uses adv. Channeling. They are both subject to the +5 rule in this case for requirements except for Taiga, using two techs vs Gene's one tech, that cost is double.

Cast time should be considered using this variable metric. Taiga would actually be channeling 15 cp for his C rank tech and then 25 cp for his B Rank tech and Gene would just be channeling one cost of 25 extra control for his single technique. Averaging the cost of the two techniques versus Gene's one, Taiga is actually paying more to get his techniques off than Gene.

I don't really enjoy getting into the technical micro bits of rp but I don't mind talking about them, either. I believe that if this was supposed to be a story oriented thread that the subject or central theme of the chapter should have been made apparent to all writers involved. If combat was intended then specific terms outlined and agrees upon in am ooc clause before the match began. Since these things were not adhered to, I request that Gene's involvement be non canoned entirely.

There is no way after you lose any kind of vision that you know what he is doing or what he is up to, period. He's moved, you have moved, both are doing things.

Despite my jutsu very clearly by all current rules completing before yours.. I will leave that to a mod to put forth.

Next, 55 speed difference being negligible? Not really, 55 speed makes meters seem like microseconds or miliseconds- hes boosted beyond the stat cap into pure goodhood. You are literally stuck stationery in one spot, without vision of where he is or exactly whats coming, and unable to move or use inertia/speed momentum. its practically like you starting at 0 in everything speed)

TLDR
Gene is doing more jutsu, at higher ranks, with more soft debuffs (the pain of the hold, being blind, etc, disorienting jarring of his cocoon dropping etc). There is no way Taiga does not interrupt his B-rank jutsu and get him.

A breakdown for the rest of us

First, the key moment of this exchange is when both shinobi go back to engage in Jutsu. Following being Gen with something that is exerting immense strength and physical pain on Gene, Gene then has to perform two B-rank jutsu at assumedly high controls.

Taiga, immediately has gone into doing a singular C-Rank jutsu, already giving him a complexity advantage and less jutsu. As per the rules themselves; more complex jutsu are higher ranked, and more complex jutsu require more seals, thus more time to perform. That alone is already common sense on the board and amongst all of us, but is further reinforced by this line in the rules.

This gives Taiga already one advantage in action- his strikes can come earlier. Next, Gene is starting to do another jutsu- B-rank. First, ignoring that it is extremely bad manner, bad form, and kind of cheating to train and invent a new jutsu to save you IN the middle of a combat thread that is clearly not a training thread...

Next; Gene is channeling.
Quote:
Channeling Chakra now, he placed a hand over the rigid construct of his own hair and imbued it with his energy; arming it as though the strangs of rigid white follicles were some kind of boody trap to be sprung - and they were

Which, to reiterate as per rules, is even slower than hand seals. Keep in mind, you hand seal at your speed, which mine is also 55, which means yet again I am;
Physically faster at performing jutsu; using a faster casting medium; using less complexity techniques in totality.

By all rules of the board, logic, and common sense, this is how it is.

Taiga is springing into a 55 sprint from short range for the completely immobilized, legs gripped with immense force and paining Gene in a cocoon. That would be fractions of a second.

There is no way Gene is able to invent a new move, train it, perfect it, and fire it all in that short amount of time where Taiga is rushing to him, again, full speed 55 speed. Assumedly- he is also doing this all, to reiterate, as an extremely strong crushing force bears down on his legs, which must impact him to some degree.

Oh and again- he is channeling this, which is again, even slower.

Finally, there is no way to assume Gene had his eyes open in the cocoon. He mentioned this posts later; when his jutsu and even his post allude to him being COMPLETELY and totally covered, COCOONED to completion. Given his own post contents and his own jutsu description he is completely encased/enclosed and thus would be losing his vision. Any suggestion that he can somehow still see me and track me despite being blinded by his 360 defence is a bit ridiculous- especially adding to the fact his cocoon is dropping into the ground, going to probably wobble and turn a bit and disorient him more.

I should add that also Gene only has 35 strength, so the 50 strength illusion of force on his legs is going to be quite excruciating for him- so again, if you add up ALL the layers, everything going on here, all the different things that tip the scale in Taigas favor, you find it is very much so in his favor.

Alright so there are 3 issues.
The jutsu being trained in thread
Gene reacting from within the cocoon
The time to react with B-rank channeling vs C-rank jutsu.

So first;

While, from a "fairness/consideration/politeness" standpoint, it definitely isn't kosher to train a jutsu midthread, this isn't intended to be any sort of real combat in the sense that either person is fighting for their life. By the forum rules I'm not really sure I can say its not allowed. However, I can say that training a jutsu midthread like that its highly unlikely you would get it off successfully in this situation, you also definitely didn't meet the word count for it. All that being said, I'm not sure there is a hardcoded rule allowing/disallowing this, and is really more of an issue that roleplayers would need to resolve themselves. Ultimately if it came down to me I would say its allowed.

However
Moving on to point 2/3, there is absolutely no way - even if they were speed matched - that Gene would be able to get the jutsu off in time. Speed doesn't apply to hand seals, anyways, speed is for macro movements. But purely the difference in rank B vs C, and execution channeling vs hand seals, even with Taiga moving (which would slow down hand seals), would lean in favor of Taiga. Theres no way for Gene to see, and even if he could, he wouldn't be able to get the jutsu off in time.

I'll also add, Taiga currently has +25 in boosts, which isn't possible due to the cap of 265. Hayate should probably designate which of the boosts he's taking, not that I think it would impact the outcome of this in any way.

Conclusion
From a rule standpoint training in this situation is okay, but it's kind of shitty/lame.
The jutsu would not be able to be completed in time to counter Taiga the way it is written.

Well I see Strat edited... I still might add he has 35 strength and is somehow not being crippled in pain from a constant 50 strength force on his legs.
Taiga had stayed light on his feet, always moving in some capacity as he had sealed and fought, and likewise Taiga had wasted no time from the moment his technique was cancelled to the moment he lurched forward- at the speed he was moving this would be like milliseconds if not faster. By all intents and purposes, in this moment, he was the fastest man alive or at least in Konoha. Seconds were like minutes, minutes were like hours. From the moment Gene had chosen to make a cacoon Taiga had locked in on a fault in the Jounin's strategy- a glaring mistake. Beyond his vision being taken from him, the cacoon hugged his body tightly limiting movement to some degree. Better yet, his genjutsu, which was still active, was exerting an immense force on his legs; a force far stronger than Gene himself. The pain would be one thing- but the fact that he was physically stuck was another.

As Taiga approached in those few fractions of a second he curved himself, arcing around the back of the cacoon instead. While Taiga had not known that following this; Gene would attempt to not only create a new technique, but execute it, it would be of little importance since he would never finish it in time to strike. As Gene's hand pulsed chakra into the cacoon leaving him ever more so open- interrupting Gene's casting Taiga would hold his breath momentarily as he thrust his hand in like a phantom- no smoke in site given the smoke only came from his breath, aiming for where the back of Gene's neck would be- only aided by the spike in sensory information that ocured as his hand merged through the layers of hair- moving through it like a lightsaber through a small stick of butter. he would turn just his knuckles to metal; utilizing the beads on his wrists; but leave the rest of him flesh to keep his ability to stay merged.

With one swift and precise motion, he would aim physically for a spot at the back of the mans neck, just above the back aiming to knock him unconscious; hitting full force (45 strength) and releasing his tailwind off of him (50 strength), directly into the man and the cacoon. The wind would be gone on any more strikes; but the sheer surprise force of two hits at once would be enough to likely break through any defense, only made better by follow up.

Man, knocking out Gene like this is probably gunna get me in prison.

Taiga thought to himself as he swiftly pulled his arm back ever so slightly, similar to one inch punches, and once more jammed it in like a machine gun, creating a flurry of aimed strikes in a matter of seconds.

To reiterate; this jutsu is still being continued from a few posts earlier.
Konoha no Senken • Tailwind
B-Rank Maneuver Taijutsu
Required: [Heavenly Body Control]
The Flying Swallow Style developed by the Sarutobi family is a NinTai style. To circumvent the need for ninjutsu in Konoha no Senken, practitioners instead use their own explosive movements to bend the wind around their body and create a powerful tailwind behind them. While they move, this tail wind violently circulates around their body, building up pressure. Each post the the user is consecutively moving forward at a minimum of [Speed]/2, the wind gains [Speed]/2 strength. It can be used as a shield to protect the user, or through the use of another technique can be released. The maximum amount of times the technique can gain speed is 2 times. If the user stops moving or drops below [Speed/2] for more than a post the wind dissipates.

[Composite Assimilation]
B-Rank Stance Taijutsu
After making contact with an eligible piece of solid matter, Taiga will utilize his Genma abilities to assimilate multiple materials at once, or add more materials to his current assimilation, allowing his body to become a composite of the multiple materials at once. After assimilation he is able to "phase through" or "merge through" objects matching the materials he has assimilated. This technique must be used with a discipline for the appropriate material he is merging with.

[Flesh]
D-Rank Discipline Taijutsu
Through training Taiga has gained the knowledge and discipline to assimilate himself with Flesh: the bodies of living things.

Konoha no Senken • Physical Tenketsu
D-Rank Discipline Taijutsu
Before practitioners of Konoha no Senken can learn to fight, they must first study the physiology of a human opponent for to memorize the muscle groups and sensitive points. This practitioner is capable of identifying an opponent's physical pressure points (for example, the temples, inbetween ligaments, solar plexus, or the radial nerve) with relative ease, as if it was second-nature.

Izaki had stayed occupied with his own doings while the two were battling it out. He was gliding through the skies, keeping a close eye on what was going on below him. The fight seemed intense from his point of view, he was eager to see who would come out victorious at the end. Part of his wanted to join in, but seeing how out skilled he was has definitely put a stop to that thought. 'There is so much I have to catch up on...' The youth let out as his ink hawk pivoted slightly to give him a better view of the battle. The drunkard appeared to have the upper hand in this bout. This is not to say that the other guy had not displayed a impassive amount of skill. 'I wonder who that is...' The boy thought, after remembering that he had not actually been introduced to the two. All he knew was that, his Sensei was acquainted with both of the men.

The jutsu that caused the mans hair to extand and wrap itself around his body was impressive. It didn't appear to be fully functional but it was impressive nonetheless. But the display of skill from the other man was even more impressive. The lightness of his step called for an award. Izaki would have to speak to this person once this bout had finished. Until then, the youth would simply carry on gliding through the air.

That is my bad on the Genjutsu then! Ignore that. Still- did not factor into Onu's ruling anyways since he said it was irrelevant (the genjutsu).

I cannot be tactful here anymore- I am really trying- but your resorting to pure BS and made up mechanics etc to try and defeat every action makes me want to call the BS out.

At times it were a good thing to be quick. In fact, speed and victory were synonymous in many scenarios however, this was not to be one of them. Taiga moved quickly, this much was true but even with his speed traversing the great distance occupying space between himself and Gene would not be instantaneous. Unlike the body flicker technique which may have allowed someone to move instantaneously from one place to another.
Actually, body flicker has to be casted and then has a lag time after it's done. So, you are factually incorrect. Further more at 55 speed, literally god tier, literally moving past the hard limit on speed, and at a distance of assumedly at best 20-30 meters, that is practically near instant.

Usain bolt can run 100m in. 9.58 seconds. Divide by 3 and we are pushing about 30m per 3 seconds. Now consider that Taiga is running more like the Flash, not like Usain bolt, and we are talking fractions of a second here. Stop making stuff up.

Furthermore it was already ruled there was no way you would get that jutsu off. So glad you just ignored the ruling and totally made up a mechanic.

Description: After using the underworld guardian spike technique to cacoon themselves in rigid, spiked hair the user may channel additional chakra or perform an hand seals to cause sections of the underworld guardian spike technique to bi sect into sections, launching bursts of needle fire at [control] strength and speed in a 360° arc, within 20 meters.
Here is your made up jutsu- on the spot. It is a fire and forget jutsu- not a controlled jutsu, which really rules out any chance of a partial. Beyond ruling you never got it off, this is a fire and forget. There is no partial cast. Your casting is getting interrupted; at a minimum if you are going to hold fast to casting you are going to have to tank incoming physical hits in order to do that.

I can continue to go on- but I don't need to. I can easily counter what you did in a minimum of 5 different ways but I am fighting here for principles. Principles because I am tired of how you behave on the site and RP with others. I am tired of you ignoring rulings, making stuff up that suits you, pushing the boundaries of what should be allowed.

If you want to play T1 RP buddy, you need to not invent random stuff that only suits your character.

Gunna ask for a mod again since clearly you have no desire to even follow rulings. Otherwise, my post is as follows.
OOC: Asking for a mod, but since I no longer cba I will post my shitpost of exactly what I am going to do when the ruling comes.

Taiga would proceed with his attack, close the miniscule gap with his above-god-level speed with ease and interrupt/reach Gene before he would ever get to finish channeling his jutsu, then proceed to punch the base of Gene's skull until he went unconscious.

He would then pull out his comrade from the cacoon, check that he was alive and breathing, lay him down under a nice shady spot under a tree, notify Old Man Saigo or some medics, then continue on his way to go get some food and a drink; he only ever wanted to talk to his comrades after all but instead got his property damaged and insulted.

"Well this was cathartic."

OOC: straight up needs a mode since, gene died when all taiga did was fling him out of a cacoon; given the post Strat edited to "die" is following just being flung out of the cacoon.
