New Blood!

Post by Rain21199 » Tue Jun 02, 2020 11:23 am

Today was the first official meeting of the new Vanguard. Zakuro had to scout for a new member of the team after Niku was reassigned, but there were really high hopes for a Senju named Masaru. Coming from a strong bloodline of shinobi is always a strong edge for a ninja, which was part of the reason Zakuro recruited the boy. He had a benefit Zakuro lacked. He knew all too well the struggles for someone not born with the genetics required to be a good shinobi.

The plan was to meet outside of the village, about a km out from the wall. There was a clearing in the woods that was perfect for training. The ground was dotted with craters, streams, stone spikes, and burns. All signs that this place was a favorite of the more destructive fighters in Konoha. That was the very reason why Zakuro chose this spot to begin with. As Vanguard's leader, it was up to Zakuro to train the team as a group, and work on their teamwork. This was the plan for the day.

He would wait for the members to arrive, one by one, and then he would brief his men on the plan.

Naoyukino had been training hard to prove his place as a member of Mamorunuku and had pushed his skills to the max and even learned some iijutsu as he promised, though he was also starting to figure out a whole new skill that was thought of as the epitome of ninpou and today would be no different except for the fact it would seem the vanguard squad he was now part of would all be joining it seemed.

The young Yamanaka got lost in his own mind as he wondered what the notice he received was all about, summoning everyone as it did for their first group meeting, making him rather curious over what they would talk about or if there was some task. Either way he simply went about his usual activities in his usual ditzy way; getting dressed, having breakfast, meeting and greeting everyone else before leaving almost as in a dreamy trance as his head bobbed from side to side as he walked.

It truly was a wonderment how Nao even managed to find his way to places as he just seemed to move so automatically without any care in the world, his eyes blank to the outside world and instead focused on a mental one like some nutty spaced out kid. Nonetheless the automatic thing seemed to work and said kid eventually wound his way through the streets and to the gates of konoha, where he was allowed exit and finally found his way to the described location.
"Oh this is it!" Nao exclaimed joyously as he suddenly realised he arrived at the clearing, his ditzy brain turning back on as it scanned over all the oddities.

Naoyukino looked a bit lost for a moment as if uncertain if it truly was the area despite all the impacts, spikes, burns and streams for he didn't have much reason to come to such a place usually himself given the lack of destruction he offered. However after a moment of looking around he spotted his leader in the form of Zakuro, thus confirming it was indeed the clearing he was supposed to be at.
"You summoned us?" he instantly question, still very full of curiosity over what exactly they were going to do though if he had to guess he was set on training by the looks of the area.
Given such expectations it seemed he had left Sayuri behind, believing she still needed to rest up from previous solo training sessions and such, though she could easily be called upon if needed.

Yozei had been feeling conflicted lately, torn between pushing himself harder in his training and feeling distracted as his mind wandered to his ex girlfriend, questioning his place in the world. He knew he had talent, he had recently fought against the Kazekage and held his own in the tournament in Star Country after all, but his drive was waning. He was a prodigy in the use of Katon ninjutsu, though achieving such a level left his taijutsu lacking, an area he would have spent more time on if his squad didn’t already have a master swordswoman in Niku and a relentless brawler of tremendous power in Zakuro. There had really been no need for him to train despite his taijutsu focused squad leader helping him get in better physical shape in the weeks before the tournament. Unlike his father he dreaded exercise and was really rather lazy when it came to training and finding motivation.

When the team had been called to assemble, he figured they would be in for a training session. It would be good to see Zakuro and Niku, those two always motivated him with their raw physical abilities. He had to at least get faster to keep up with them for properly coordinated attacks. There was another member of the team too, a Yamanaka but he hadn’t actually gotten to know him as well and mostly just maintained a surface level politeness and familiarity with him. Arriving at the training grounds the auburn haired Chunin kept his let hand casually on the hilt of his Katana, his right raising to wave casually at the Yamanaka boy, “Hey Nao” he greeted, then looking to Zakuro and nodding, his eyes brightening a little as he saw his friend. “Strange, usually Niku is before me” he commented. She was known for her speed after all and for the most part she was well organized, with Yozei being more likely to sleep in. The two of them had taken their Chunin exam together and he had come to quite like the girl, perhaps because of his recent breakup with Suzume he was looking forward to getting to know Niku a little better.

The ringing of an alarm could quite possibly be the most irritating of sounds. Especially considering the fact that not even the birds were awake yet. Masaru groaned quietly. He'd received orders to report to a new unit today. He wondered if it was because of the spirit inside bleeding through lately. After a handful of outburst and severe mood swings beyond the normal teenage hormones. It'd been determined the spirit within was effecting his psych and he'd have to take precautions against it or slowly lose his sense of self.

It all seemed to get worse when he was healing or using katon. In other words he was more vulnerable to manipulation by the spirit the more he used its power. Maybe they were putting him under someone with experience with Jinchukiri or perhaps it was someone with an eliminate if necessary order. Masaru didn't know and right at that moment he didn't care enough to bother. He'd been moved around from sensei to sensei and leader to leader he was beginning to feel like a hot potato.

He rolled out of bed the blanket moving with his body as he crumpled on the floor. Letting out a groan he began doing his standard warm up exercises nothing intense just a light work out to stretch his muscles from their resting state and prepare them for whatever the day may hold in store. His report order instructed him to bring his gear. Why did it seem that every first time meet up involved combat or training? Yes it's the most direct method of observation but its not like you can't just observe over a handful of missions was it?

After finishing his workout Masaru stepped into the shower. He let himself soak a bit in the steamy hot water hoping to further prepare his body for whatever beating he was likely to endure... Not that he truly needed to. Following the shower was a rush to get dressed and breakfast to go. He certainly didn't want to be late but he had no clue where this particular training ground was.

After going to five different training grounds he was finally shown the proper path. Unfortunately his detours caused him to be the last to arrive. Not exactly a promising start but hey at least he wasnt late right? Then again. The training grounds looked like they were already destroyed. What exactly was going on? He didn't recognize any of the other gentleman at first but he figured the leader would step out.

Taking his lance off his back he'd step out into the opening glancing from one man to the next analyzing each with his dimly glowing orange eyes. However as one man spoke of Niku a handful of memories would run through his mind. Namely his time in Sunagakure and Fur Country. Looking at the male with closer detail he'd actually realize he recognized the youth from his visit in Suna. It was the honored son of the Hokage.

"Yozei right? Long time no see. At least there's one familiar face here for me."

Zakuro took in a deep breath. The scent of morning dew, fresh mud, and anticipation filled his nostrils. All of the men had gathered around. It would be apparent to each and every one of them that Zakuro was carrying equipment for a fight. He was wearing a sleeveless turtleneck that tightly gripped his skin, showing off the man's definition underneath. His right arm bared a gruesome scar that encircled his bicep. A reminder of a fateful battle he had lost against a shinobi for Kirigakure. The scar meant much more than that to the Chuunin though. It also symbolized the moral battle that Zakuro faced in the months following the fight. It was another battle that he lost, and it made him lose his way. Whenever Zakuro exposed that old wound, he did it with pride. It was no longer a symbol of failure to Zakuro, but one of growth; It was a lesson he would never forget.

With a smile, he looked around at all of the people who had gathered because of his orders. "I'm glad you could make it. As you've probably noticed, there's a new face here, and there's an old one missing. This isn't a coincidence. Unfortunately Niku was reassigned. I'm not sure if this is permanent, but nonetheless, we can't afford to be a man short, even if it's for a day, so I'd like to introduce everyone to Senju, Masaru. Quick background on him, he's a Genin, making him the lowest ranking of the group, but I scouted him myself. I think he's going to be able to keep up with us very well, and his skill set can easily be adapted to our needs."

Zakuro paced slowly back and forth as he continued, "There's a few reasons why I brought you here today. One, to introduce you to Masaru. We can check that one off the list. Two, to train together, hence the location of this meeting. We need to be a cohesive unit if we're to tackle larger threats. If some giant spirit shows up and starts destroying our beloved forest, we can't be getting into each other's way as we try to fight it. If we do that, we can count ourselves as good as dead, and half of Fire Country is going to be destroyed. Unfortunately, our Hokage and Bannin are acting as envoys to other villages more and more frequently, so who's going to defend this place? I can tell you that it's not going to be ANBU. Not unless poisoning the spirit or stabbing him in his sleep would do the trick. The next time there's a serious threat to the village, we'll be one of the teams sent to stop it. That's almost a guarantee. Third and final reason why we're here, I need to brief you on our next mission."

Zakuro looked back and forth at his men, gauging the expressions of each one as he said the final part. Everyone has a different reaction to hearing that they are being sent into the field. Some people get excited, some get scared, others just lock up and get silent. Zakuro wanted to see how they each reacted to the news.

Finally, he stopped pacing, and fully faced his men. "Do we have any questions before we begin?"

Whilst Naoyukino was awaiting their, attractively buff, leader to respond he heard his name be called and turned to face Yozei who seemed confused that Niku wasn't here which did catch the Yamanaka off guard now he thought about it but then anyone could arrive whenever they wanted really so he wasn't truly bothered.
"Ah, Yozei" the blond briefly commented in reply, nodding to his brown haired companion.

He still wasn't on strong terms with the Hokage's son but he had great respect for him and not necessarily just because he was born of the Hokage's blood but because of his own skill, though he had yet to see it truly in action for himself it was indeed very powerful sounding plus he had such a grand sword and he seemed to have a rather powerful, calm mind which was his truly his greatest quality.

Soon afterwards a brand new face stepped into the clearing with the clear look of a Senju about him and was obviously a new member given the situation, though he seemed to know Yozei at the very least.
"Ah, hello?" the blond spoke, turning his attention to the new comer with slight confusion and intrigue.
Though before any questions could be asked it seemed Zakuro was finally ready and faced the group despite Niku's absence, which the man immediately answered any lingering curiosities because of those matters by announcing Niku's reassignment and introducing the Senju.

Zakuro also explained that they would be training as a unit which Nao had expected, though he didn't think they would also receive a new mission at the same time however the efficiency was welcome.
With that out of the way the first thing to do was to welcome the new comer and introduce oneself and so the Yamanaka gave a bowing nod to the boy before speaking
"Nice to meet you, I am Yamanaka Naoyukino" he happily greeted the young Senju, a smile spread across his face.
"Ah, as for the training? What will we be doing? Also, what is this mission?" he then said as he turned to Zakuro full of questions.

The red-haired son of the Hokage waved casually to the newcomer, “Oh, hey! Masaru, good to see you” he recalled, the name was easy to remember, it was only slightly different from that of the Awai bodyguard his father often had around. He recalled though that it was Senju Toshiaki that had been the one Masaru had known back in Sunagakure. The two were related which stuck firmly in his mind as odd given the boy’s strange orange eyes, aside from that he looked the part of a Senju but surely he had some anomaly about him that accounted for the distinct difference. It would be rude to ask directly but if the two were on a team together then surely, he would be able to piece it together. Yozei was an intelligent young man, if a little lazy.

He was actually rather excited to have a new member on the squad, Senju tended to be strong at mid range support though evidently Masaru had some skill with a polearm, perhaps he was the defensive piece or all-rounder that the team seemed to be lacking. With Niku and Zakuro making a practically unbeatable close quarters combo, Nao offering a range of tactical support options, medical jutsu and scouting and Yozei with an impressive mid-long-range offense with a touch of defence, all the team really lacked was a genjutsu user, though in a pinch Nao was at least competent in breaking genjutsu.

Yozei gathered in a little closer and turned his attention to the squad captain as he began speaking. He was disappointed to hear that Niku was needed elsewhere for the time being and also hoped that Masaru wasn’t only a temporary fill-in until she was back, five was probably the upper limit for an effective squad but given their strengths, it seemed like they would all work well together. Yozei nodded in understanding to the situation, though turned to look at Masaru, surprised to hear he was only a Genin and being added to their elite Chunin squad, despite being Chunin in name each of the members of Vanguard were easily Jounin level in their area of specialty, making them more suited to be considered Special Jounin if anything. Nonetheless Yozei had faith in Zakuro’s judgment, ‘I wonder why he’s been held back…’ he considered, he had to be far stronger than any other Genin in the village to be able to keep up with them, was it something to do with those eyes? Were the Senju trying to keep him from advancing? he wondered, though Toshiaki hadn’t seemed to hold him in any ill regard but then he was a rather idealist and kind man for the most part. He doubted he would openly air any grudges even if he did have them.

As Zakuro spoke of their duty and purpose as a squad Yozei felt determined and motivated. He knew they had something special about them, the potential to be Konoha’s strongest squad aside from Bannin team-ups or perhaps some of the proper elite forces of the village. He was motivated to train and get more familiar with team combinations and tactics, though as Zakuro said they were going to be going into the field soon Yozei felt slightly apprehensive. Without Niku and with a new member their teamwork might be sloppy, it seemed almost overly optimistic to assign a mission before their training even began but if they all meshed well and could feel comfortable by the end of the day he would be much more reassured about the upcoming deployment. When asked for questions, Nao was quick to get the obvious ones out of the way so for the time being Yozei would simply listen and learn though he was feeling eager to practice with the new lineup.

Masaru was stunned on multiple counts as his new leader began to speak. He didn't know that he was filling in for Niku which in and of itself made him sad. He had enjoyed working with her in the past. The other news that surprised him was that he'd been scouted to join this group by the leader though he'd never heard nor seen the man prior. He wondered just how much of his file he'd been given access to and if he was aware of all his abilities.

The training he'd come to expect. Every new meet up seemed to involve training. Maybe Konoha had a policy on team building he'd yet to learn cause of his rank? He wasn't making the big bucks just yet for a reason. Probably his lack of skills as a leader. Mood swings and violent outburst do not a chuunin make.

When he heard they had a mission he blinked a few times making sure he heard right. A mission now? But he just joined. Sounds like trial by fire. Which he personally had had enough of. He glanced at the others but didnt see any remarkable changes in expression. Must be business as usual for them.

He saw Nao turn and introduce himself. Seemed to be a pleasant guy to say the least but he was sure he'd get to know them all in time. He looked towards the leader and shook his head to indicate no questions. He was more ready to see what the abilities of his new companions were.
