Fanho awaited in the meeting room. Due to there being two challengers for Hokage it would come down to a classic one versus one. Typically seen in a Chuunin exam sometimes, but even relegated as a Hokage trial when necessary. Fanho tapped his foot as he awaited Taiga and Takeo to come. The arena was set, albeit it wasn't a full arena. Primarily the council, the clan leaders, and the high ranking officials from the village. It was heralded for the two to fight and see who would come out on-top however that would not be the sole determining factor, just one sub-factor of many to determine whether they were worth becoming Hokage.
The Bannin calmed his nerves, although he wasn't shook from much, he certainly hadn't wanted to fight his best friend Taiga. It seemed like an unnecessary challenge, Fanho even wishing the council would just call it rather than making them fight. Part of it was the fear of it being in his own hands, and another of him fighting Taiga. He wasn't a stranger to friendly fights to determine strength or to build each other, but it was different when there was a lot more on the line. Something that Fanho wanted and had been dead set on since he was young.
He'd be lying to himself if he didn't feel a bit cheated having to fight Taiga for it due to his newfound desire for leadership. Although Fanho respected his desires, after all they shared a lot of the same feelings towards the position. Just different mindsets and thought processes.
The Awai steadied his leg as he awaited the two in the conference chambers, he sat alone waiting only his thoughts to bide his time. "Gah, I'm used to these two taking their time, but what gives? Its like they're coming from a different time zone."

[Hokage Trial] Abridge the Taiga to attain Hokage-dom
Taiga was in a particularly foul mood as he made his way to the arena to fight his only friend, Awai Fanho, in an archaic ritual demanded by a bunch of relics. He had collected numerous votes in a short amount of time and found himself an actual contender to his rival for Hokage, and yet, victory was so far away. Perhaps the old fools did not understand that war could be won in many ways beyond combat and that one's ability to protect extended past their ability to create fire or shoot blinding lights... but regardless, this was a trial that favored the Awai far more than it did the Sarutobi. For a brief moment as he entered the chamber in which the duel would occur he pondered casting Kotoamatsukami on the entire council and being done with it... escaping this childish game but part of him rejected the idea. He would do anything to achieve the future he wanted for the village but a part of him felt loyalty to Fanho, and to win with such an underhanded victory and destroy the dreams of his comrade since childhood seemed inexplicably wrong.
Anything for the village.
This was an idea he had heard muttered by many dangerous men and he knew the danger that lay within all men, including himself. He couldn't stoop to that level. Stretching his neck as he rolled his head he would stop short of Fanho and nod.
"I'd very much like to get this over with." he would state before bowing. There was no way he would win a direct fight with a guy whose fist was like 4 suns at once... and any chance he did have would require him to use genjutsu on his comrade that... a sinking feeling in his chest hit him as the fight had already begun. He took a deep breath before the grumbling low voice of Sukairaa spoke up.
"I knew you were too weak to go the distance boy. Whatever it takes..." Taiga looked at Fanho's eyes.
"Even if you must Kotoamatsukami on that sniveling light show..."

The 17th Hokage had been preparing to step down since the end of the war, nearly a year and a half ago now. But the man had many loose ends to tie up, a final meeting with the other Kage in steam country in particular and then various trade deals to finalize. But at last Fanho had returned to Konoha and had been taking the necessary steps to prove himself to the council. He already had the endorsement of Takeo, his wife Aina and even his and Fanho’s shared Sensei; Teruin Hayashi. Among other notable higher ups within the village all backing the shining star of the Awai clan. Whereas before the war Takeo had been reluctant to support Fanho’s ambitions, having seen the signs of conflict on the horizon. Now, Takeo was tired and worn down. 16 years as Hokage now it had been. He had led his people through war, fought several S-ranked MN personally and expanded Fire country’s lands twice over as well as strengthening ties with Suna and forming a strong pact with Kumogakure. He had even fulfilled his inauguration promise of seizing control of Slavers Ravine and enacting policies that treated Slavers with the utmost brutality, slaughtering any in brutal fashion and stripping them of any rights to trial.
Now, however was not an era for brutality and warrior leaders. It was a time that he believed could be built into peace, the kind he had long fought for. Fanho was a stronger combatant than Takeo had ever been, but he had the strength to know when not to fight. That was the kind of change the village needed now. What Takeo hadn’t expected however was that there would be any contention for the mantle of Hokage. When he first heard of Taiga’s campaign he assumed it was some sort of joke or a petty grudge from a jealous rival seeking attention. The truth of the matter was he had regrettably never truly gotten to know Taiga. He had tried several times over the years but at every opportunity, the impulsive young man had phased away into the ground and ran away before Takeo could get out more than a few words at a time. Even for someone regarded as a specialist in tracking and capturing back in his youth, Taiga’s skills at evasion were second to none and had him thoroughly outmatched.
The middle-aged man wondered if Taiga would even show up or if he would leave the second he arrived. In fact, he had almost forgot about the scheduled duel until one of his secretaries reminded him and cut him short of some business he was in the middle of. Muscular as ever, Takeo fit his robes snugly over his body and made his way to the assigned arena. Takeo’s piercing blue eyes widened in surprise as he saw the two men standing ready in the center of the large fighting ring. He ran a hand through his chestnut brown beard, now marred with several flecks of grey. His eyes tired and wrinkled at the edges. With a burst of speed he held onto his hat and stopped just short of the two of them, he still trained every day and retained his physical prowess though it had been years since he had developed any new jutsu. “So, you were serious then?” he said assessing Taiga. “I look forward to seeing how much each of you has grown. The future of the village rests on each of your shoulders. I know whatever the outcome, you will decide what is right for Konoha” he said, looking between them and nodding with a soft smile as he gave Fanho a squeeze on the shoulder.
Takeo found himself somewhat distracted as his mind reeled about the recent loss of Masami. The sooner he could step down, the sooner he could dedicate himself to finding answers about what happened to his cousin and close family friend as well as his friend Souta. It was hard enough reeling about the recent death of the former Kazekage; Henrin Kiyori. It seemed he was losing many close to him in recent days. If he could afford to, he hoped to spend some more time with his family as well, especially his eldest son Yozei who had just arrived to visit. Turning and leaping up to the stands in a flicker of movement he leaned over the railing and held an arm up. “Begin!” he ushered. And so he would see just what kind of hands he was leaving the village in.

Fanho stood from his seat as Taiga approached his place. As Taiga collected his thoughts, strategies, and deep desires. Fanho too felt similar, he wish they wouldn't have to fight. Fanho shrugged as he gestured towards Taiga. "Hey you know me. The sooner I can get back to my beauty sleep, the better." Fanho gave a slight chuckle despite the tense air that filled the room. It was heavy as if they were traversing the mists of Kirigakure. Lost in a haze, forced to fight for qualifications. The show of it all. Even though Taiga saw it as trivial, Fanho gave the council the benefit of the doubt. Even though he couldn't blame the Sarutobi, he had every reason to doubt the leadership, question their ability, but in the end the two were different in that aspect.
It was without doubt that the current standing Hokage would attend, he had to make some show, however even him like the two seemed to think this was a bit wasteful. Though Takeo would be lying if he didn't say he had a vested interest in watching the two fight. He was always a partaker and enjoyer of good training and sparring. Always the fighter. However Fanho knew Takeo's presence would garner a raise out of Taiga on some level emotionally. He had always had a disdain for Takeo. "Of course he's serious. There's no other rival I'd rather have." The Awai would grin as he glared at Taiga. Although after all the nerves he was proud of Taiga, and saw in a new light how his friend was after their talk.
Now that proceedings were underway, Fanho could feel his nerves calming more the closer it came to fists flying. After all he was among friends and teachers right? Well best to not let the show wait, he had been waiting for years, and needed to act now.
"Well, talk is cheap, and I'm outta things to say that are deep. So let's get right down to the beat."
Fanho quickly drew two kunai as he slung them towards Taiga aiming for his shoulder, hiding one within the shadow of the other aimed for Taiga's hip as Fanho channeled. He knew Taiga could assimilate metal, but could he assimilate a second kunai he was unaware of?
His haori of light formed along his body draping to the ground in an almost white light blinding those close to him, but comfortably away from the viewers in the stands. This armor that coated him from head to toe was durable at 50 strength, but slow to form at 10 speed as to preserve some form of chakra as the Awai ducked to the left of the arena angling slightly farther away from Taiga as he let his armor clad him.
The fight was upon him, and he'd have to stay on his toes and push Taiga tactically. Preserving the stamina reserves while also keeping Taiga dancing. Fanho's specialty after all was offense, but he'd have to play this smooth and patient as to surprise his spirit-konoha fusion friend. "In another life I could be a rapper right?"

"I've never not been. My Will of Fire will outburn yours, Takeo." Taiga said with a surprisingly powerful voice as his eyes locked onto Fanho, who had defended his will to Takeo. Of everyone, perhaps Fanho understood him the most, even if his understanding was incomplete. Taiga bowed his head once as he struck a lowered pose.
What a joke- they all have already chosen the light brat, what are you here to prove? the Genma snarled at him. Taiga closed his eyes. He would be lying to say he didn't feel any sort of pain from the constant rejection he received. That he didn't feel the eyes of the audience like daggers, all looking at him like he was less than. He'd be lying if he said he too didn't think it was clear Takeo and the rest of them already had their golden boy. But, he wouldn't let himself be dragged down by any of those feelings.
Preparing for combat he would clasp his hands together as he channeled. Calmly he responded to the annoying demon within his conscience. "I'm here to show them what I've risen above, Suu." As Sukairaa let out a chuckle, the Jinchuuriki would open his eyes to the whirring of his cuirass as his body turned to Kouton, the act of such being the trigger for his Genjutsu, taking advantage of his opponents need to focus on him to aim. It was an extremely simple genjutsu, but that was what made it so powerful. No one ever suspected it and he could hide what material he was currently assimilating. Using the fullness of his speed he'd make quick work of Fanho's "testing the water" kunai, noticing the one in the shadow as his eyes tracked the projectile.
The Thousand FIsts of Konoha was the pride of Taiga's taijutsu, but it meant more. It was a style build in admiration of the Sarutobi. To the Hyuuga. To the Akimichi. To Strong Fist. It was a style that bore the best of all the martial styles of their village and it was symbolic of the man Taiga had become. The man who would carry on the dreams of the comrades who died in his arms in the war. The man who so wished to radically change their village- but to do so in a way that still respected the legacy of what their forefathers had built.

Juggling them in the air for a moment he'd pull two smoke tags from his pouch and attach them to the Kunai before quickly whipping them back towards Fanho with full strength and then moving to the edge of the arena.
He knew Fanho- directly attempting to punch a guy who could release several explosions out his fist in a split moment was generally a bad idea. He wasn't sure exactly how he would strike yet, though.

This can also be used outside of combat for lip reading, or even guessing what someone writes by watching the eraser of the pencil etc. This causes him to seem rather ADD at times as his eyes rapidly tracking movements around him. A downfall to this technique however is that while his eyes and brain may be aware of movement, his body is not always capable of knowing and keeping up. Meaning he has to be physically capable still of responding to threats or capitalizing on weaknesses, even if he perceives them.

This allows him to create interesting attacks by rapidly changing his movement patterns while fighting.

The Flying Swallow Style developed by the Sarutobi family is a NinTai style. To circumvent the need for ninjutsu in Konoha no Senken, practitioners instead use their own explosive movements to bend the wind around their body and create a powerful tailwind behind them. While they move, this tail wind violently circulates around their body, building up pressure. Each post the the user is consecutively moving forward at a minimum of [Speed]/2, the wind gains [Speed]/2 strength. It can be used as a shield to protect the user, or through the use of another technique can be released. The maximum amount of times the technique can gain speed is 2 times. If the user stops moving or drops below [Speed/2] for more than a post the wind dissipates.

The Flying Swallow Style developed by the Sarutobi family is a NinTai style. To circumvent the need for ninjutsu in Konoha no Senken, practitioners instead use their own explosive movements to bend the wind around their body and create a powerful tailwind behind them. While they move, this tail wind violently circulates around their body, building up pressure. Each post the the user is consecutively moving forward at a minimum of [Speed]/2, the wind gains [Speed]/2 strength. It can be used as a shield to protect the user, or through the use of another technique can be released. The maximum amount of times the technique can gain speed is 2 times. If the user stops moving or drops below [Speed/2] for more than a post the wind dissipates.

[Hokage Trial] Abridge the Taiga to attain Hokage-dom
Fanho would easily danced around the kunai slung his direction as it piqued his interest that Taiga hadn't taken on a material. Odd perhaps but maybe he was waiting for the right opportunity? The thought pushed aside from Fanho's mind as the smoke encased him. A double edged sword that protected him from Taiga's gaze but clouded his own. Despite this he could feel the vibrations in the ground between the two to deduce the location of the slippery host. The Bannin coated his eyes with a layer of hiton chakra to protect them for what came next.
Although his taijutsu style wasn't as memorable as Taiga's, nor as inspired. In some way it held a special place in Fanho's heart. While he liked the idea of strong fist, he believed in an even stronger fist style. Due to his lesser than normal Bannin strength Fanho found ways to supplement it, then supplement that supplement, and then supplement the supplement of the supplement that supplemented a non-mentioned supplement and practically developed a strong fist to crack even the most impregnable defenses. He channeled his true strength ninjutsu, but applied that to his taijutsu turning him into a hybrid of a chakra lightbulb and earth shattering blows.
He'd have to utilize this style smartly stacking his blows against Taiga, not only due to the natural armor of his assimilation, but also just his stout nature made him a difficult opponent. Genma powered or not, it would take a lot to break the skin of the material chimera. Though with weathering, Fanho felt confident the unbreakable skin was not so.
The Awai would sprout several tendrils from his wrists and hands that would coil tightly around his fists before bursting through the smoke in a sweeping fashion lashing out at a vast speed and strength of 50 in a sweeping motion from the smoke towards Taiga. At least what Fanho assumed was Taiga due to the vibrations he felt reverberate. The tendrils swept the field horizontally trying to smash into Taiga and launch him again the other-side of the arena with tremendous force. Fanho followed behind the sweeping tendrils as they retracted back to coil around his fists. Even if the tendrils hadn't made contact, they were close enough to blind the genma fusioned man.
The Bannin called out to his friend, playfully bantering with him. Even though this was all for the marbles, and could be the end to Fanho's childhood dreams, he felt oddly comforted that it at least wasn't ill-intended opposition or someone not worthy of the responsibility and leadership. However that didn't mean he would go down without swinging. Despite the comfort he also felt a drive deep within pushing him to go further beyond. Despite a lack of skill in Genjutsu, Fanho would turn the dreams of grandeur and illusions into a reality. His fist would open a new path.

This allows him to pick-up on far away conversations and hone-in to focus on what is being said, and is even capable of doing so through walls if not made with proper soundproofing and far enough away.

Taiga glided to the side of the arena as his eyes incredulously watched the kunai fly through the air. He'd take in a small amount of earth, holding composite assimilation and allowing him to dip his foot into the earth slightly every now and then to read the ground.
Timing things precisely and paying attention to his surroundings he would position himself in range of Fanho while also maintaining his gait such that his tailwind would continue to gain power. During this, he'd have been sealing too and preparing for his own technique. Smoke like this was never useful to truly obscure one's location- least not when every Tomu, Daisuke, and Hari Jounin or higher had some form of sensory. But then again the smoke was never meant to obscure his position, but rather to obscure his jutsu and buy him time. Within moments Taiga would hurl forward as large amounts of black smoke flowed off his body, mixing with the normal smoke and filling the battlefield subtly.
This was his negative chakra- but it was also a newly formed technique and ability of his that was likely unknown by anyone else. The Genma had been both a curse and a blessing for his shinobi career like that... In some regards, it had given him a chance to prove himself to the village, and yet, it had also put him on a leash and gave an easy reason for others to attribute his success to. Under his sleeve though was a variety of extremely potent techniques and abilities the world had no idea of.
I can't use Genjutsu now, or ninjutsu, but at least for a moment Fanho won't be able to use anything either. Taiga thought to himself as he extended his hand, his other hand rapidly moving around it to form a ball of air. "And that's our chance..." Suakairaa chuckled. The two aligned spiritually, he would barrel forward rapidly. The thing was, he would then suddenly disappear, as he would go into the ground. In this state he made no vibrations or anything, at least not anything short of a molecular level or sub-atomic or something. Within the stone he was like a ghost.
He would then release his stone assimilation, suddenly launching himself from behind Fanho in a completely unexpected attack. Rocketing out of the ground at an intense speed and with the momentum of his body, the ball of air on his hand would only spin faster as he removed his left hand from it and extended his right hand out fully hoping to make contact with Fanho and slam the rasengan into him, followed by his own momentum and so much more...
At their level, even if it hurt him it probably wouldn't be fatal or anything, probably...
Besides, he was just a jounin fighting a legendary bannin.

After a series of hand seals or channeling, Taiga will perform a typical smoke ninpou technique however use negative chakra instead of plain chakra. This causes a large [Control * 2] diameter smoke cloud to form with him at the apex. The smoke is a translucent black and while it makes it slightly harder to see does not affect vision in any real noticeable way. Being heavily diluted, this smoke is unable to fully consume any existing energy but it is able to eat the small amounts of chakra that are released during hand seals or channeling- effectively interrupting the initial chakra manipulation and stopping any jutsu from being cast inside the smoke for up to 3 posts.

This technique must be used with a discipline for the appropriate material he is merging with.

Prerequisite: Phantom Sensory
Building upon the training Taiga has done to feel that which he is merged with, Taiga has honed and trained his sensory to an even greater level such that he is able to feel the pressure shifts and changes and even the presence of chakra along an object surface which he is merged into. This works at up to [Endurance] x 2 meters away from his position inside an object. For example, a bird flapping its wings would cause pressure downwards on the ground, or a fireball ripping through the ground would heat the air above the ground. These are all things he can sense.

A-Rank Maneuver Taijutsu
Required: [Heavenly Body Control]
After seeing Fanho use the legendary Rasengan, Taiga combined what he saw with his training in heavenly taijutsu from Sunagakure's monk bannin to create his own unique taijutsu-based version. By holding out one palm, Taiga will rotate his other hand around the open palm at super-human level speeds. This will cause a small tornado to form in the palm of his hand. Continuing on a little while longer will cause the tornado to stabilize into a spinning, spherical disc of air in his palm, roughly 1 foot in diameter. When slammed into a target, this spherical disc of air releases it's force outward from his palm at a strength equal to Taiga's [Speed]. The end effect is a jarring hit to the opponent which not only causes intense physical damage, but if more powerful than the opponent, will send them spiraling through the air for 5 meters for every point of strength difference. If a post passes with Taiga not continuing to spin the sphere, it will fade.
Additional Effect: If Taiga has a fully charged Tailwind he can release that energy along with the sphere, adding to it's strength and also allowing it to release slicing winds into the opponent, leaving a myriad of shallow bruises and cuts all over an opponent. While these cuts are weak, the sheer number of them can lead to a decent loss of blood if untreated.

After having merged with the material and phased completely into it, Taiga will cancel his merging with that material after pointing himself at a target, causing himself to be "ejected" from the material and repelling him out of it at rapid speed and striking along the way with all his momentum. It is extremely difficult for most opponents to know where he will pop out from, and adding to this, his movement has such speed that it is near impossible to see anything but a quick blur for anyone without appropriately ranked [Perception]-based techniques.

The thrust of his hands but nothing... Was it a dud? The light whips no shooty go blam this time. This black smoke seemed to cancel his chakra out. Made it feel heavier to cast, and seemed to cancel it before it could go off. Well at least the cancel saved him the chakra usage.
For now his radiant armor still shone through so he at least had that going for him. He could feel Taiga dance a bit before feeling his presence disappear from the ground. It appeared the ground swimmer was attempting something, and Fanho had an inkling of where he'd show up next. A close up fighter. Taijutsus the name of the game now it seemed, and as if on cue he could feel the host rise from the surface from behind as if it were water, the vibrations ringing out to the touch of his feet similar to his friends own skill with the genma.
You would pull the ol' teleport behind and give the razzle dazzle huh? That's my shtick.
The Bannin turned to see the Sarutobi leaping towards him at such speed with a taijutsu rasengan in his hand. Taiga you've outdone yourself this time. Limit the game to only where you yourself hold an advantage. Not only that but he carried armor on him too. Harnessing the power of wind to shroud oneself. Unique. Sadly Fanho and Taiga had similar ideas, tactics, and oddly similar abilities to an extent.
"Interesting technique, can I show you mine?"
Well now that his opponent had the courtesy to bring himself closer, Fanho would duck under the intriguing rasengan hoping to sweep Taiga's leg appearing from the ground attempting to trip the Sarutobi face first before flipping his right leg high in the air attempting an axe kick against his friend's back. He'd probably just phase through the ground, but at the least the kick would damage that wind shroud. Hopefully anyways.
Not only was the Sarutobi skilled in taijutsu, however Fanho's main arsenal had lay with his capabilities with ninjutsu to enhance it. He was at a disadvantage, but perhaps if he could hold his own he could stay competitive until the abilities returned. The need may even arise for him to use his special ability as well. For the moment, he was cut off from the chakras of nature though. Just a little longer.

[Hokage Trial] Abridge the Taiga to attain Hokage-dom
Taiga could feel Fanho's body shifting upon the ground, preparing to move for a counterattack as he ejected himself out of the ground at blinding speed. The speed at which the pair moved would be all but imperceivable to almost everyone but the Hokage himself- though perhaps no one was able to see anything right now given the walking lighthouse. Being made completely of Koton though had its benefits though- he was for one quite durable and for two, not affected by the light. Like a hawk watching its prey as he ejected out the ground and began his assault, he watched and perceived the twitches of Fanhos body noting the momentum, trajectories, and muscle groups that move as his mind pieced together the other man's next movements.
Ducking, in general, took a lot of movement and it was a rather telegraphed move that generally did not work well when your opponent was of equal speed to you. Taiga knew this would be his chance to make at least one solid hit and he would make sure to tax Fanho for choosing to duck. Utilizing his acute sense of battle tempo he would fluidly press on, drawing his hand with the Taiga Rasengan back to spare it and instead repositioning his body on his heels to counter-strike into the leg sweep, both tanking it head on but also pushing back with his full power.
It was at this moment that he would roar, "You talk too much..." as the sound of the wind cloak that was on him collided with the light cloak on Fanho. The gusts of wind would turn gold in the light of the cloak as both of their "cloaks" would annihilate themselves on each other, and for at least the moment, leave both of them relatively unguarded. Taiga grit his teeth as he pushed through with his leg into Fanho's leg in motion aiming to meet on his shin, close to the knee with the goal of collapsing his leg. He was confident he held the strength advantage here, and along with his own momentum, would be able to turn Fanho's overly flashy moves into an opening.
Hopefully his strength advantage, momentum, and being made of koton (unbeknownst to Fanho) would have not just a successful hit, but a "stunned" effect people had when they bumped their knee caps or shins on-hard stuff. Following the epic clash though, Taiga wouldn't waste any time though and fluidly he would use his left hand to attempt to grapple Fanho with grabbing onto whatever he could, leg, arm, clothes, whatever, and pulling down. As he did this, and once he was certain Fanho was locked enough in place, he would bring his right hand with the taijutsu rasengan forward into the mans shoulder- avoiding any real lethal damage since, after all, this was only a spar.
If that all went well, he would disengage and put space between them to give Fanho some time to nurse his wound, having made his point enough that he had the ability to cause harm. That was all that the council cared about here, right? Surely ones ability to fight had nothing to do with their ability to lead...

Able to keep his focus in all situations with great pose he is cognizant of subtle details around him, capable of honing in on the slightest changes of air or even the smallest movements in the fibers of an opponents clothes, allowing him to pick up on their movement and predict it before it is complete. This can also be used outside of combat for lip reading, or even guessing what someone writes by watching the eraser of the pencil etc. This causes him to seem rather ADD at times as his eyes rapidly tracking movements around him. A downfall to this technique however is that while his eyes and brain may be aware of movement, his body is not always capable of knowing and keeping up. Meaning he has to be physically capable still of responding to threats or capitalizing on weaknesses, even if he perceives them.

Through his knowledge of CQC, his perception, and acrobatic abilities he moves such that he is light on the balls of his feet or heels, always able to move and redirect force that his body is subjected to, such that he can ensure that he stays on his feet and is not toppled, flipped, tripped, or knocked back. Even if he is to lose his footing on the ground, Taiga can redirect himself to stick a stable landing

Although he had locked legs with the Sarutobi luckily he had damaged Taiga's cloak with the strike, however he left himself able to be pinned by the Sarutobi but able to resist the host's intended plan of collapsing his leg with the cloak acting as defense and reducing the damage by rolling his leg with the attack. Regardless the pin move framed Taiga's follow up to grip and thrust the Rasengan into the cloak's shoulder.
The blast would throw Fanho away as he rotated in the air to catch himself among the ground sliding away from Taiga due to the blast. His cloak was damaged, but it still held firm for now. Luckily his rolls and turns with the attacks had lessened the damage dealt allowing it hang in for now. He could see the black smoke begin to dissipate, the window was closing for the chakra switch to soon be flipped back on. Looking back at Taiga, he presumed Taiga's wind shroud had dissipated due to the pause in combat. Without keeping up speed he figured Taiga's defensive cloak must've been movement based.
"Talk too much? I'm just getting started. You know we don't allow smoking in-doors right? But I'll make an exception for today!"

The Awai had timed the fuse just right to explode just about as it reached Taiga not aiming to cause damage but to cloud the area with billowing smoke. Smoke meet smoke, create more smoke, make the area smokey, and obfuscate their vision was the plan.

Similar to before snapping his fingers to light the fuse to meet the Sarutobi in the smoke. Even if Taiga presumed a follow up attack. He at very least would have trouble detecting the direction as Fanho disconnected himself from the medium of sensory.

Any attacks thrown that hit Fanho hit as if they were -12 in Strength weaker than they actually are. This is due to Fanho moving along with the strike reducing damage dealt. By rolling with the strike rather than attempting to defend, he's able to take strikes much stronger than normal, but keep close to an opponent without losing ground as his movement is minimal.

[Hokage Trial] Abridge the Taiga to attain Hokage-dom
As the two smashed their legs together with a forceful impact, Taiga had managed to at least pin Fanho long enough to pour all his momentum and his tailwind into his rasengan. As he smashed the rasengan into Fanho's shoulder and the tailwind flowed off of it, Fanho's cloak was nearly all but obliterated, left hanging on by threads as the Bannin was sent flying backwards rotating through the air. In the same moments, Taiga would disengage backwards in a single massive bound aiming to put himself on the opposite end of the arena- and out of his smoke. As soon as he cleared the smoke his hands would begin sealing all the while, Sukairaa reprimanding him with You fool... you should'a gone for the throat as he span through the air! And why don't you use my power? You could completely overwhelm that loudmouth..

Being made of koton though- metal it would sail right through him though as he lurched forward past the kunai at full speed. It would explode behind him with smoke but he'd be long gone for the second kunai and already out of the smoke cloud.
Assuming the Genjutsu went well, he would whip Fanho's arm into the mans own gut, making him punch himself.

Fanho took note of his friend channeling chakra. It was a massive amount, something that Fanho particularly didn't want to find out what it was and would take quite a while as well. With quick thinking Fanho balled his fist as he made a break to run to the right putting all his might into believing that he'd be circling his opponent in the arena to juke him out as it seemed like they were almost one step ahead of each other.
He channeled a bit of chakra before imagining the space right behind Taiga immediately teleporting close behind in his blind spot. Swinging his fist for Taiga's right kidney, after contact the Awai released the fuuin stored in his arm giving his strike a devastating secondary blow. If anything it'd disrupt his friend's casting, and hopefully stun him for Fanho to follow up with another blow at close quarters. His friend was crafty and fast, but not instantaneously fast as while they rivaled each other in speed, Fanho could edge out just a bit with some style.

While in this stance, Fanho moves with attacks thrown at him, and is able to minimize damage to a great deal. Any attacks thrown that hit Fanho hit as if they were -12 in Strength weaker than they actually are. This is due to Fanho moving along with the strike reducing damage dealt. By rolling with the strike rather than attempting to defend, he's able to take strikes much stronger than normal, but keep close to an opponent without losing ground as his movement is minimal.

Casting a genjutsu out the gates was a risky move- especially when your opponent could just teleport behind you. Taiga had hoped the smoke would be enough cover to deal with Fanho but unfortunately that was not the case. As he was casting, Taiga could feel the rapid movements of Fanho as he would move out the smoke and the edge, then bee line for him. The second he became visible, Taiga would have already abandoned the Genjutsu in favor of something quicker- an extremely simple ninjutsu technique. It might even appear as if he had abandoned casting all together with how simple it was, and to make it even quicker he wouldn't even put any strength behind it (1 strength).
As Fanho came out of his blink, Taiga would already be dropping full speed through the earth having left a little gift for Fanho, who would be landing with his momentum and planting his foot as the Phantom Genma host narrowly dodged his attack, none-the-wiser that the ground was so brittle it would instantly collapse under his wait and momentum. If Taiga was lucky he would punch himself or something in the process. He could crack a great joke then.

As he fell through the ground he would orient himself for the off kilter Fanho and throw 4 senbons from each hand, from his pouch up at full strength for Fanho, hoping to capitalize on him being off kilter, timing them with his phantom bukkijutsu to sail through the ground effortlessly and surprise attack.

Able to keep his focus in all situations with great pose he is cognizant of subtle details around him, capable of honing in on the slightest changes of air or even the smallest movements in the fibers of an opponents clothes, allowing him to pick up on their movement and predict it before it is complete. This can also be used outside of combat for lip reading, or even guessing what someone writes by watching the eraser of the pencil etc. This causes him to seem rather ADD at times as his eyes rapidly tracking movements around him. A downfall to this technique however is that while his eyes and brain may be aware of movement, his body is not always capable of knowing and keeping up. Meaning he has to be physically capable still of responding to threats or capitalizing on weaknesses, even if he perceives them.

The only limit to the speed of which Taiga control his body, via rapid acceleration or assimilation, is the speed in which his mind can physically send the impulse to his body to do so. With Taiga's high body control, he has trained and honed his mind and body to be as one, capable of reacting near the speed of thought in terms of controlling himself. This allows him to create interesting attacks by rapidly changing his movement patterns while fighting.

Taking advantage of the fact that things that Taiga holds can also phase through things along with his body, this maneuver uses raw speed, timing, and technique to allow Taiga to throw something such that he can make use of the few moments after an item leaves his hands that it still is capable of phasing. With a particularly short window of opportunity, the object can effectively stay phased after leaving his hand for a maximum of [Speed / 5] meter, speed being the speed the object is thrown at. After this distance, the object will have fully returned to it's original composition but continue its trajectory as expected.

B-Rank Discipline Taijutsu
The only limit to the speed of which Taiga control his body, via rapid acceleration or assimilation, is the speed in which his mind can physically send the impulse to his body to do so. With Taiga's high body control, he has trained and honed his mind and body to be as one, capable of reacting near the speed of thought in terms of controlling himself. This allows him to create interesting attacks by rapidly changing his movement patterns while fighting.

C-Rank Ninjutsu
After phasing a body part into a material and channeling into it, Taiga will manipulate the source material and hollow out a 9 meter radius pit beneath the surface. The top few centimeters of the pit however will be left untouched however in a very brittle strength, with roughly 1 strength of durability.

D-Rank Discipline Taijutsu
Before practitioners of Konoha no Senken can learn to fight, they must first adapt their minds and bodies to be capable of using both sides of their body equally. This practitioner has successfully completed such training and can use their left and right side interchangeably.

C-Rank Maneuver
Taking advantage of the fact that things that Taiga holds can also phase through things along with his body, this maneuver uses raw speed, timing, and technique to allow Taiga to throw something such that he can make use of the few moments after an item leaves his hands that it still is capable of phasing. With a particularly short window of opportunity, the object can effectively stay phased after leaving his hand for a maximum of [Speed / 5] meter, speed being the speed the object is thrown at. After this distance, the object will have fully returned to it's original composition but continue its trajectory as expected.

[Hokage Trial] Abridge the Taiga to attain Hokage-dom
Fading into the ground was just Taiga's specialty. The Earth genmas work at play. However it posed a threat to Taiga, phasing into the ground would mean his eyes were no longer shielded by Kouton melded over his eyes. Giving a chance to blind the poor friend. It was an excellent plan, but the with the cloak still in play Fanho was shining as bright as ever. "Sneaky trick, but you're not the only one whose has learned a thing or two!"
As the ground gave way Fanho took note of the senbon flying quickly as he contorted his body remembering the intense equilibrium training in the frozen lakes of Kumo, he graciously spun narrowly avoid two of the senbon. Then he used the recently discharged Fuuin to absorb one senbon's energy as it came to a dead halt in the air falling below, and his other hand to sap the kinetic energy from the other letting it fall down. His Sage Mode ability retaining the second's energy within.
All charged and rearing to go, Fanho sailed across the new pit as he launched himself backwards attempting to catch Taiga just before he disappeared further into the ground rearing another foundation shaking strike this time attempting to combine the newly found kinetic energy of his Sage Mode abilities doubling his blow.
If connected the strike would reverberate out with a resounding two-thud smack in the coliseum, the initial fist followed by the kinetic discharge from Sage Mode. A simple yet powerful move.
It was a bit barbaric pitting the two against each other. Fanho honestly had no clue nor care as to who was stronger. In reality, as the battle progressed Fanho realized how futile this fight really was. A battle of strength didn't determine the worth of a leader in the end. Fanho could defeat Taiga, Takeo, Tousha, the whole Konoha military, and it still would not mean he was worth more than any of them to become Hokage. It would be his willingness to put them above all else including himself when the need arose that truly determined his worth in his mind.
He almost had half a mind to quit in the middle, and simply let the council vote. Yet he felt it would be insulting to Taiga if he didn't try with all his might to prove himself, going easy on Taiga wouldn't just risk a brutal defeat at the hands of the jinch but insult his good friend. Even so, this was a pretty hard fight, the Awai hardly had time to breath before needing to make a move.

[Hokage Trial] Abridge the Taiga to attain Hokage-dom
After throwing his senbon, Taiga wasted no time and continued down and away from Fanho aiming to put himself on the opposite side of the arena at full speed. Fanho's strike wouldn't be able to destroy the ground at a speed in which it would impact Taiga, though through the rumbling of the ground he'd feel how powerful the shots Fanho threw were. Things were heating up. The ground rumbling from Fanho's strikes would help Taiga though- it was unlikely Fanho would be able to feel or locate or do anything at all to track Taiga's whereabouts beneath the ground.
Channeling the entire time he was in transit, Taiga was prepared to end this fight. There would be no interrupting his Genjutsu this time.
Now would be the time welp. Sukairaa hissed. Taiga nodded, Alright, alright, let's do it. as suddenly he began to transform. Within a moment he was the full-size genma, with marvelous wings of black smoke. With one strong beat, he rocket up out of the ground and high into the air in a magnificent display that would surely catch Fanho's eye.
He'd do so with incredible speed and deft flight, utilizing his taijutsu to do so, and he'd yell out, his very large Phantom Beats fingers wiggling as he'd flap his wings to blow wind towards Fanho to further garner his attention.
"My resolve to be Hokage is the resolve that allowed me to master the Phantom Beat itself." he'd say as he continued to wave and wiggle, as if he had mastered some new form of hand sealing. He was growing tired of this battle- exactly what did it prove? Would winning change anything?
"My resolve to be Hokage is the resolve that allowed me to defeat Shinji." He'd continue to flap his wings, to make sensations and feelings that would hopefully mask anything of his "strings" from the Genjutsu on Fanho.
"My resolve to be Hokage is the resolve that allowed me to fight in blasted wars that we had no reason to be a part of- to hold my comrades in my arms as they died."
"My resolve is to ensure this village will never again be invaded."
"What is your resolve, Fanho?"
The moment he would feel he had successfully triggered his technique he would stop moving his fingers; but he also wouldn't do anything- choosing not to use the effects of his techniques just yet. He didn't want Fanho to know just yet that he was in a Genjutsu.

After the required hand seals, Taiga will point his fingers toward his opponents and wiggle them, causing any who sees this to be caught in the genjutsu. Once caught, they will feel strings tugging on them from multiple points, exerting [Willpower] strength. For the next five posts, if the target's strength is less than [Willpower] Taiga can use these strings to exert physical control, much like one would using actual kugutsu. For the first post only, any attempt to kai will ignore the strength being exerted, allowing them to move their hands to do so. While this physically controls them, it does not control their tenketsu or their ability to channel chakra.

Fanho watched as Taiga jettisoned out of the ground. The Awai watched as the wind fluttered his clothing, light smoke billowing the area. Unobtrusive but oddly thematic. The waggle of fingers we’re odd, but Fanho decided to discard the idea for a moment. It was clear Taiga was now in his full jinchuriki form. A strange form, human yet uncanny valley of horror mystified his presence. This was the power of the genma and the form. Fanho had his own forms, but he’d keep that trick hidden up his sleeve. The Awai began channeling chakra as the two’s battle took a slight pause.
Resolve? Well the two certainly had plenty between them to spare. Taiga’s had came from a place of loss, something he deeply wanted to prevent. He wanted to keep Konoha from ever experiencing again. It was clear on his welcome the two we’re in similar boats, but different ways of carrying them out. Different ways of presenting them to the populace at large. None-the-less Fanho didn’t doubt Taiga’s resolve. Others may cast shadows on the jinchuriki or wrote him off, but Fanho smirked as he nodded to Taiga.
“I would expect no less from a perfect rival.” Fanho pondered, his own resolve? It came from the desire to protect. To share what he had with others. The chance, the times, the pleasantries he had benefitted from. His and Taiga’s experience differed greatly, but it was that the two could come together that made them the perfect duo in a way. Taiga’s first hand experience and empathy combined with Fanho’s unshakable will and determination.
“My resolve is to stand in-front and bear the burden. To protect the village and end the pointless fighting. To smile through the hard times and show people it will be alright. It is not enough for me to be strong to protect the village, but to be strong for the people and show them there is a better path, and raise a generation that can continue to maintain this peace we’ll forge. Not through raw strength alone but by the people as a whole.”
Fanho chuckled as he ran his hands through his hair. “Whether you or me, we’ll make it happen one way or another. Won’t we Taiga?”

It seemed appropriate to bring out one of Fanho’s stronger jutsu in exchange for Taiga’s show of genma form. The tendrils last for 6 posts.

While in this stance Fanho positions his feet squarely one slightly farther back than the other, and juts his hands around chest level acting as if he's ready to catch something incoming. While in this stance, Fanho moves with attacks thrown at him, and is able to minimize damage to a great deal. Any attacks thrown that hit Fanho hit as if they were -12 in Strength weaker than they actually are. This is due to Fanho moving along with the strike reducing damage dealt. By rolling with the strike rather than attempting to defend, he's able to take strikes much stronger than normal, but keep close to an opponent without losing ground as his movement is minimal.

[Hokage Trial] Abridge the Taiga to attain Hokage-dom
Taiga chuckled at Fanho's all-too-characteristic dribble-"To stand in-front, to bear the burden?" The unearthly sound of Taiga's voice faded as his voice returned to that of his own completely; showcasing his mastery of the Genma and as a Jinchuuriki. His chakra welling about him as he spoke creating a clone of himself (25 control) he would continue speaking.
"I respect your resolve and know it strong, but tell me, where were you when I held our comrades in my arms dying in a foreign land while Kirigakure ransacked our village? At the vanguard, standing in front with a smile?" Taiga said with a solemn tone. Him and his clone would both prepare their techniques (25 control) as their wings flapped, and with their full speed they would deftly maneuver to a safe position on either side of him, flanking, along with their wings before diving for him.
"We do not live in a simple world and it will take far more than a smiling, reassuring man at the front of the village to ensure our safety, our peace, and our well-being. My resolve is to ensure that the people at the back are smiling just as much as you at the front Fanho." Taiga would calmly project to the entire arena, as suddenly him and his clone would barrel like peregrine falcons for Fanho.
Taiga would also make use of his genjutsu, should Fanho attempt to move, to pull the mans limbs, body, and contort him in whatever way was possible as he would feel a 50 strength force pulling his body every which way. Even if he somehow found a way to resist, it would certainly make it hard for him to dodge, move, or control himself efficiently.
"You and I both know this is not about who is stronger or who will win- there is only one outcome here today, but I will prove a point."

Whether he became Hokage or not, he would do every painful and hard act that the village would need to ensure no one would suffer as he had. As Takeshi had. As the other members of the village.
"I respect your resolve and know it strong, but tell me, where were you when I held our comrades in my arms dying in a foreign land while Kirigakure ransacked our village? At the vanguard, standing in front with a smile?" Taiga said with a solemn tone. Him and his clone would both prepare their techniques (25 control) as their wings flapped, and with their full speed they would deftly maneuver to a safe position on either side of him, flanking, along with their wings before diving for him.
"We do not live in a simple world and it will take far more than a smiling, reassuring man at the front of the village to ensure our safety, our peace, and our well-being. My resolve is to ensure that the people at the back are smiling just as much as you at the front Fanho." Taiga would calmly project to the entire arena, as suddenly him and his clone would barrel like peregrine falcons for Fanho.
Taiga would also make use of his genjutsu, should Fanho attempt to move, to pull the mans limbs, body, and contort him in whatever way was possible as he would feel a 50 strength force pulling his body every which way. Even if he somehow found a way to resist, it would certainly make it hard for him to dodge, move, or control himself efficiently.
"You and I both know this is not about who is stronger or who will win- there is only one outcome here today, but I will prove a point."

[Hokage Trial] Abridge the Taiga to attain Hokage-dom
Fanho would feel his limbs immobile. Unable to move from his position as he heard Taiga monologue before rushing in with a clone of himself. Fanho retracted the tendrils to wrap around his arm and pull it down so that his palm would face underneath him. Straining against the force of Taiga's genjutsu, Fanho could definitely get a feel for his friends immense will power. Their ideals straining against each other almost poetically.
Taiga was all about showing his resolve in his mental strength, taking his anger as fuel to better himself, and drive his desires to protect the village. He was on his alone for much of his time, mastering the genma, losing family, and fighting in the war. The losses only fueled his fire. Drove him to be better, gave him a level of empathy for others that some even Fanho couldn't obtain. Despite the losses he never lost his way. Truly someone Fanho admired, even wouldn't mind losing Hokage to, but here and now he'd fight to the bitter end as a sign of respect.
After all, Taiga's will rivaled Fanho's own.

As the two clones closed in quickly, Fanho struggled controlling his hand fighting against Taiga's genjutsu. The hand began to glow bright white as nova rings began to grow off his hand displaying surging energy. He had been storing this energy ever since the start of the fight even in-spite of the hiccup of Taiga's void jutsu, and now it was ready to go. "I'll do whatever it takes to be the hero the village needs! Hokage or not!"
As Taiga's duo got close ready to strike on either side, Fanho's body glowed as he let Jikukan chakra flow within him once more. Throwing himself into the void of time and space he instantly appeared above just 25 meters. Despite Taiga's increased speed, even he couldn't dodge instantaneous explosions. The nova rings circling his hands and arms and the bright flow ejected forward violently. His hand directed below at the Taiga's released a roaring explosion of almost blinding white Hiton chakra raining down upon them cratering the center of the arena. A thundering blow shaking the ground. Despite the arena being sealed to prevent anyone outside from feeling the effects of the battle, a little vibration could be felt in the area.
While still Kouton Taiga would escape any blindness or burns, Fanho knew he was at least that much protected, but he had hoped to strike Taiga down with one explosive sweep. The explosion was strong enough to obliterate the clone, but catch Taiga with a face full of 50 strength hiton. Hoping to end the fight in a swift blow against the odds.
His cloak fluttered before shutting off.

While in this stance Fanho positions his feet squarely one slightly farther back than the other, and juts his hands around chest level acting as if he's ready to catch something incoming. While in this stance, Fanho moves with attacks thrown at him, and is able to minimize damage to a great deal. Any attacks thrown that hit Fanho hit as if they were -12 in Strength weaker than they actually are. This is due to Fanho moving along with the strike reducing damage dealt. By rolling with the strike rather than attempting to defend, he's able to take strikes much stronger than normal, but keep close to an opponent without losing ground as his movement is minimal.

"The village doesn't need more "heroes". It needs people who are okay going unrecognized as long as the village is safe." he said calmly. He was done placing his faith in "heroes"- for he lived in a harsh reality where even heroes failed to save loved ones and stop death.
The moment Fanho's whole body began to glow, Taiga was no fool. He had already seen this happen before, and within this battle itself. His lips persed as he realized the battle was going better than he could of imagined, though this would be visible to none as his head was shrouded in smoke from his genma form. Baiting Fanho into using space-time was exactly what he had hoped for. The more Fanho teleported the more tired he would be. Even the Awai was incapable of keeping up repetitive usage of such a technique.
As Fanho prepared to blink up, the moment he blipped, Taiga would feel the shifting in the airs followed by a massive shift above them, and using a speed that surpassed the god's themselves Taiga and his clone would turn on a dime as their wings began to flap furiously. His clone would rocket up as it swung it's arm with it's momentum, unleashing a massive blast of null chakra that, when Fanho reached his position 25 meters above them and exploded, would also explode out countering Fanho's explosion as the clone's nullblade consumed the hiton chakra in a 25 meter path right to Fanho and carving a clear path for Taiga.
With his path cleared, Taiga's own null-blade would be released for Fanho as he rocketed upwards along with his clone- though the clone would move to the side and out instead going away from Fanho and up far into the air as it channeled (35). His Genjutsu continued to pull at Fanho making it hard for Fanho to control his body- which would already be a hard feat given he had placed himself airbourne with no way to fly or truly recover. He did not have the 360 degree movement Taiga was capable of with his wings, and even with his makeshift method of movement he wouldn't have the balance or skill he normally would unhampered by the Genjutsu. Taiga's fist would glow with chakra (15) as he rocketed up behind the wake of his null blast.
He would close the mere 25 meter gap in no time at his speed (55) and slam his palm straight into Fanho with tremendous force mimicking the Hyuuga's style. And should there be no reason for it to be consumed, his (15) null hand and his Tailwind (55) would also be released into Fanho with it. He wouldn't relent, and would keep launching palm jabs at Fanho and grappling the boy.
From above, as this was going on, the clone would have finished channeling and dropped void smoke which would fall down through the air onto Taiga and Fanho as the smoke dispersed through the arena.
Taiga would be careful not to do anything lethal, but he would prove that Fanho's spirit could be broken for his body was merely mortal as was everyone else... or at least he would prove that Fanho had indomitable spirit even in the face of a beating.

After a series of hand seals or channeling, Taiga will perform a typical smoke ninpou technique however use negative chakra instead of plain chakra. This causes a large [Control * 2] diameter smoke cloud to form with him at the apex. The smoke is a translucent black and while it makes it slightly harder to see does not affect vision in any real noticeable way. Being heavily diluted, this smoke is unable to fully consume any existing energy but it is able to eat the small amounts of chakra that are released during hand seals or channeling- effectively interrupting the initial chakra manipulation and stopping any jutsu from being cast inside the smoke for up to 3 posts.

Patterns already being easier to remember, Taiga has worked hard at actively committing whatever he sees to his short-term memory. This allows him to remember things such as the beginning torque to a kick or a hand seal pattern after seeing it once, so that he can recognize the technique if used later in a battle, giving him an advantage in anticipating his opponents next action and effectively making an opponent’s consecutive usage of a technique a liability.

With immense willpower and perception skills, Taiga has trained himself to be one with his environment much like birds of prey. Able to keep his focus in all situations with great pose he is cognizant of subtle details around him, capable of honing in on the slightest changes of air or even the smallest movements in the fibers of an opponents clothes, allowing him to pick up on their movement and predict it before it is complete. This can also be used outside of combat for lip reading, or even guessing what someone writes by watching the eraser of the pencil etc. This causes him to seem rather ADD at times as his eyes rapidly tracking movements around him. A downfall to this technique however is that while his eyes and brain may be aware of movement, his body is not always capable of knowing and keeping up. Meaning he has to be physically capable still of responding to threats or capitalizing on weaknesses, even if he perceives them.

The only limit to the speed of which Taiga control his body, via rapid acceleration or assimilation, is the speed in which his mind can physically send the impulse to his body to do so. With Taiga's high body control, he has trained and honed his mind and body to be as one, capable of reacting near the speed of thought in terms of controlling himself. This allows him to create interesting attacks by rapidly changing his movement patterns while fighting.

Drawing it's inspiration from the famed ever advancing movement of Konoha's Gouken, Konoha no Senken practitioners ingrain in-themselves a way of positioning and moving their body that constantly advances upon the opponent, allowing attack after attack fluidly and giving the opponent little option to flee. Practitioners are ultimately capable of using this way of advancing on their opponent to control the tempo of the battle and move it where they desire, causing interruption to opponent defensive stances.

Inspired by the Jyuuken of the Hyuuga, the practitioner drops low then lunges in with an upward palm-strike at the opponents Solar Plexus, delivered with full force, moving their entire body into it and pushing up with their leg. If the opponent has less [Endurance] than the practitioner's [Strength], they will have the breath knocked out of them, causing them to have difficulty breathing for the next 3 posts. If the opponent also has less [Strength] than the practitioner, they will also be launched into the air at a rate of 1 meter per stat difference in the practitioners favor. If the opponent has less [Endurance] than the practitioner's [Strength], they will have the breath knocked out of them, causing them to have difficulty breathing for the next 3 posts. If the opponent also has less [Strength] than the practitioner, they will also be launched into the air at a rate of 1 meter per stat difference in the practitioners favor. Fanho laughed at Taiga’s statement. It wasn't because of the recognition. It was to inspire others. Being a shining symbol for them too. To be of service to others and help them was Fanho’s greatest goal and prize in his career and life. He knew Taiga recognized the importance of helping and saving others, ensuring they could live a life of peace free from violence. Fanho’s ideas stretched just past that. He could help ensure peace in the now, but to help parse that mystery of the future he was talking about. The best thing Fanho could do would be to inspire the generations that come after. After all, the Will of Fire could only be stoked never snuffed, and Fanho was to be an accelerator to ensure it shined brighter than ever before.
“Heh, its not about the title to me, or necessarily being a 'hero'. The real question is how do we inspire people to do what's right, and get the next generation to ensure the peace when we're gone?” Fanho smiled, despite things not going his way per say he wouldn’t lose faith nor hope. In the moment this fight really didn’t mean much if he had lost. What mattered was what he could possibly do in spite of the circumstances, when the chips we’re down how he would hold steadfast in his beliefs. Unwavering, unshakeable, and most certainly unbreakable. "How do we spark the Will of Fire for those unrecognizable people, and how can we protect them from the same misgivings others have experienced? I'll be that light to show them the way, so the fires can burn for many more years!"
As Taiga and his clone swooped quickly dealing away with the explosion. Fanho watched as Taiga’s own blade followed close behind aiming for himself. With one tendril, it wrapped around Fanho pulling his limbs in tight into a cocoon as to prevent Taiga’s genjutsu from controlling and whisking them around. While three others latched on to the ground burrowing away yanking Fanho, narrowly avoiding the blade as it tugged Fanho with a forceful might. "Wooo! Going for a ride!"
The Awai saw as Taiga's clone flew up dispersing more of its void smoke. An annoyance to deal, certainly prohibitive to Fanho. However the real play was Taiga, moving in to close the distance and strike at Fanho's least opportune moment. Well, it is what it is. Fanho channeled his chakra as he formed a barrier around the clone, about 30 meters out to contain the smoke chakra. The barrier measured roughly 30x30x30 meters, with a small strength of 15 and speed. It was weak, rushed, but the containment of that bad juju would be the move. Even if the barrier burst, at the least it wouldn't have the chance to flood out like it did originally.
While the barrier was being worked on, Fanho focused the other 5 else where. Two tendrils would reach out to intercept Taiga's strike, curling in the form of a spiral shield one tendril behind the other, taking the blow head on dissipating on impact as it absorbed the Tailwind blow behind Taiga's fist reducing it to a mere 5 strength. The following blow landing as the tendrils shattered sending Fanho to the ground, still restricted in his movement. The Awai kept tabs on his two opponents ready for another strike.
Fanho put on his best cool guy accent and toughest look as he cocked his head up at Taiga. “Bet you won’t tussle down here.” The Awai coughed as the dust kicked up landed in his mouth. “Actually that might be a bad idea.”

Any attacks thrown that hit Fanho hit as if they were -12 in Strength weaker than they actually are. This is due to Fanho moving along with the strike reducing damage dealt. By rolling with the strike rather than attempting to defend, he's able to take strikes much stronger than normal, but keep close to an opponent without losing ground as his movement is minimal.

He knew neither of them were wrong but he didn't want to admit Fanho was right... and that in of itself meant something else was right that he didn't want to admit. Watching the battle unfold before him in slow motion with his legendary perception and speed, his body continued to fight as if it was on autopilot as his mind stayed stuck on those words. It ran in circles. Loops. He watched as Fanho made an effort to stop his clone, the barrier forming it had been a clever technique but it would be in vein.

His fist collided with the tendrils, the might of his own strength and the tailwind easily destroying them as they shattered and the residual force sent the limp Fanho hurdling for the ground. At the same moment, his clone would complete his seals and with a null blade (10) rip a hole through the barrier that was just freshly made, emerging out of it along with his smoke- albeit the smoke was restrained to move through like water through a partially clogged drain.

The mighty flap of Taiga's wings shooting him right down next to Fanho without missing a beat, only for the man to land next to him with a gentle thud, making no moves to strike and only clicking his teeth as he let out a deep, long breath. He wouldn't continue his attack.

As much as he wanted to disagree, he knew deep in his heart he wasn't the one to be Hokage. He wasn't the light; he was the shadow. He'd release his genjutsu on Fanho and step forth to him, hand outstretched to help his comrade and the new Hokage of the Leaf Village up.

[Hokage Trial] Abridge the Taiga to attain Hokage-dom
Takeo looked between the two men who were vying to become his successor, each about 20 years younger than him they were the best of their generation. But while he had been a mentor to Fanho over the years, grooming him for the position for the last decade, he hadn’t ever had a proper conversation with Taiga. It wasn’t for lack of effort, or at least that was what he told himself. Nonetheless, he felt regret that he hadn’t been able to help the young man grow into who he was today. There had always been something more pressing that required his attention and chasing down a delinquent who could phase through the ground at a whim had never been high on his priorities. And yet when Taiga addressed him, challenging his will of Fire, Takeo felt his conviction and his strength. In recent years Taiga had proven himself capable, doing the unthinkable and besting the previously undefeated 3-time tournament champion, Karagata Shinjiro in the Aroma country exhibition matches. Such a feat was something he was sure that he could never have accomplished himself. “I have no doubt that each of us carries the Will of Fire within. You two are both fine shinobi” he said sincerely. Truly, both Fanho and Taiga had surpassed him and proven themselves of Kage-level fighting ability. But it was their convictions that he truly wanted to test. To see their ideals clash one another and learn about each of them through combat. As a lifelong warrior more so than a shinobi, Takeo knew he could learn more through combat than he ever could through words alone, even as a spectator.
Moving to the stands he watched their opening exchanges with interest. Each combatant was difficult to pin down, each excelling in evasion and counter attacks. A piece of himself had died that day, and he had never quite regained that same sense of joy and levity.
His own conviction had shifted to one reminiscent of Taiga’s. The dark need to protect the village at any cost, and in pursuit of that path Takeo had turned to ROOT, working in the shadows behind the back of Tousha. He had tortured, slain bandits and slavers and hung them on spikes. And he had allowed Yoru his vengeance, corrupting another bright youth toward a path of darkness and hate. He realized now he had failed both of his beloved students. But he had found his way back from the darkness. Yoru and Aina had pulled him out of it, raised him up and thrust him toward the call to lead in the wake of the Konoha invasion. And reluctantly he had answered, disbanding Root and forming the more principled Anbu black ops before being inaugurated as Hokage. For 15 years he had fought to create alliances, revitalizing Whirlpool country, strengthening ties with Suna and Kumo and securing a railway network across the continent alongside the Raikage. They now controlled the mainland, even expanding Fire country territories to the south of the continent and into the previous countries of Rice, Grass, southern Waterfall and Southern Earth country, putting an end to the slave trade through Slavers Ravine that was now patrolled by Konoha shinobi.
But in his duties, he had lost a part of himself, neglecting his family and friends more than he cared to admit. It was a lonely path to lead, and he hoped to see Fanho and Taiga rely on each other, not betray and turn against one another as he and Yoru had done. Their bonds had never fully recovered after betraying his students’ trust, and after Yoru inevitably went rogue. As he listened to Taiga state his resolve, he felt his pain but now knew that Taiga truly loved Konoha. But in many ways Taiga reminded him of Yoru. A man hurting was dangerous and prone to volatility. A leader needed to rise above the pain and find a better path forward. And for all his jokes, when Fanho spoke with sincerity and conviction he was a man who inspired hope over hatred. That was the future Takeo wanted for his people, and for his children. He saw too much pain and hate in Takeshi already and saw the good nature of his eldest son Yozei become tarnished and burdened with the horrors of war. It was his hope that Fanho would be better than him, that he could help them heal instead of thrusting them into more conflicts. But Taiga was someone who could understand their pain and empathize with them in a way that the overly optimistic Fanho never truly could. There was a place for him as a leader as well, if only he could be guided by a benevolent hand.
As the match concluded Takeo appeared before them via the body flicker technique. He would look between them each, hoping that Taiga would stick around for a few minutes longer. Taking whatever opportunity he could, he would address the Jinchuuriki first. “Taiga. I was wrong about you. I always have been. I see that now and I’m sorry. I let you down all of these years and I should have done more to connect with you. Please continue to do whatever it takes to protect Konoha, I trust your judgment in knowing what is best for our people” he said, with great sincerity and a heavy heart. And then he turned his attention to Fanho. “But it is Fanho who must lead Konoha now as Hokage” he declared proudly as he removed his ceremonial Kage hat. He would look the Awai in the eyes and see within him the hope and optimism he held. “You have a strength in you that I never did, a conviction and moral compass that elevates you above anyone else I’ve ever known. Your ability to do things the right way, with integrity and good conscious are the makings of a truly great leader. Just be careful not to promise too much, some may doubt peace is possible, you need to show them it is, let your actions speak even louder than your words” he advised. And with that, he would place the ceremonial hat atop Fanho’s head. “I leave Konoha now to the two of you. Keep our people safe and keep the will of fire burning for many generations to come” he declared proudly, as he felt a great weight lifted from his shoulders. For 15 years he had carried the burden, now perhaps he might be able to retire, maybe travel with Aina for a few years. She deserved that much at least. But first, there was just one last battle to fight, it would be his last act as an ally of Sunagakure and a great friend of their people. It was a testament of love to his dearly departed friend; Kazekage Kiyori. And with it, he hoped to silence the drums of war and leave a clean slate for Fanho.

[Hokage Trial] Abridge the Taiga to attain Hokage-dom
Fanho dusted himself off as Takeo came down from the stands congratulating the two on their fight. He listened as Takeo complimented Taiga, a sorely overdue compliment for his friend that Fanho couldn't help but grin for Takeo's ovation to Taiga. It wasn't long before Takeo set his sights on Fanho rizzing him up as the new Hokage. A congratulations would have done just fine, but Takeo was also a man of showmanship that loved to have a good monologue at times like himself. Fanho put his hand over his mouth as he listened letting Takeo finished. Fanho forcibly cracked his voice as he wrung his arm around both Taiga and Takeo's necks bringing them in close for a hug. "You didn't have to inflate my ego like that Takeo, if my head gets any bigger I can't get out of the stadium." He did a fake little snivel as he laughed to himself before razzing Taiga up and letting the two go.
He had worked towards this dream for the last 14 years. Training heavily to defend the village. Going to war in Soul Country to defend the island. Training across the globe to become worthy of the Hokage role. Harnessing his skills to be deadly when needed, and sharp witted where it mattered. A lot rode on his shoulders, it was as Takeo felt, a burden off of his shoulders and onto Fanho's own. The weight was a lot, but one Fanho had energy to carry forward. One he had the spirit to brunt the forces against them. One burden of which the load was lessened standing side by side with Taiga.
"Well I know the village will be safe. I've got the best guy on the case. He's got tact, he's got will, and he definitely has the fire burning within. If there's anyone to keep me on the straight and narrow its Taiga." The Awai grinned as he put his hands on his hips. "There's not a person more in this village I trust to help inspire the next generation." Fanho patted Taiga on the back as he nodded towards his co-conspirator. "Want to do ramen? I'm hungry."

[Hokage Trial] Abridge the Taiga to attain Hokage-dom
Taiga let out a long sigh. He wasn’t really sure why he had felt compelled to do what he had just done. He wasn’t even sure if it was the right decision… Doubt lingered in him and for once it wasn’t caused by Sukairaa’s incessant nagging. Perhaps he was tired from the spar- though the only truly tiring thing had been his subjugation to the pure, unadulterated quips of what he was certain was going to be the most obnoxious Hokage to ever reign, Fanho. Before he could linger much longer on things, out of the edge of his eye he saw the movement of a white and red figure as his instinct instantly tugged at him to phase through the ground and just leave.
Resolving himself against the instinct, he stood, awaiting the current Hokage and the man known as Takeo.
To Taiga, he had felt a complex set of emotions towards the man. It was no secret Takeo opposed putting the Genma into genin and children like him and he was sure his very existence was always a constant reminder of an incorrect decision by Takeo’s predecessors. Though that wasn’t truly the case for the better part of over a decade Taiga had festered on that feeling of rejection, it only bolstered by the dedication the Hokage had put into Yoru, Minoru, Masami, Gene, and Fanho. He knew the Hokage was busy- but how had he always had time for them? To develop them. To guide them. It had been something that had pushed him away from Takeo, even if not true, and destroyed any chance of the bond the two could have had.
As Takeo announced to the crowd the results of the final trial, Taiga looked back on the past. Everything he blamed Fanho and Takeo for. The tree monster that nearly destroyed the village both had been absent for- the one he had to destroy to protect Konoha. For the ransacking of Konohagakure, left unguarded as Fanho underwent his worldy journeys, and as Taiga, along with Takeo and most the forces fought in a god-forsaken foreign land for reasons he would never understand. He thought of Isuzu. Of Gene. Of the Inuzuka man who gave him a regular beating and kept him in line before his passing. Of Genes suicide. Of Zakuro’s betrayal to the village- and the forbiddance of him to chase. Of Masami’s disappearance…
As quickly as each memory came they passed. They faded. And Taiga knew what he had to do. He had to let go- he would never be the hero people wanted. But he could always be the hero they needed. With a stern look, he placed his right hand on Takeo’s shoulder, and his left on Fanho’s before nodding softly, acknowledging and thanking Takeo for his kind words though still being a defiant enough little punk to not say it.
”You sound like you’re about to die or something old man.” he said in a rhaspy voice, coughing a little as it cleared up. The smoke produced by Sukairaa had done a number on his vocal chords over the years. ”I think it’s better my path stick to the shadows anyways; the world is changing and someone needs to look out for us from outside these walls, while the Hokage looks out for the village from within.” he said before pausing.
”I was thinking some spicy tsukemen, so ramen shop’ll do. I propose the old timer pays for us.” he said with a shit-eating grin as he removed his hand from either mans shoulder, physically removing the weight from theirs while simultaneously relieving the metaphorical weight that had pulled him down for all these years.
