Mastering Genjutsu - Nakano

Post by HotelBravo » Thu Feb 01, 2024 7:43 am

”Before we do anything else, lets teach you the basics of genjutsu. Here are some of the more basics of the branch of techniques. The Affably named when pigs fly, pins and needles, smell of the deceased, paranoid, and boom!. Very common techniques and are practiced pretty much world wide, but they should give you a very effective foundation.” The speaker was Nakano’s new genjutsu teacher. A retired jounin, he was a tall man who wore an eyepatch with no string, in fact it seemed to just dig into the skin with clamps. He also had a beard and a touch of grey to his hair. He was tall as well - in this instance though he wasn’t wearing any shinobi gear. She supposed he had earned that much in life. He was wearing a long sleeved black shirt and a simple pair of slacks, and was without his village symbol.

”Now I’ll be your partner in this. You’ll be manipulating my chakra to cause me to see the illusions. Chakra may be the spiritual part of the body - but it has a very real effect on the physical senses. So manipulating the chakra of the eyes, ears, nose, even skin - you can pretty much do it all, it just relies on your skill. So the first is an auditory genjutsu, so you will need to manipulate the chakra in my ears.”

Nakano nodded understanding. They were both in the middle of the woods rather isolated from anyone else so that there would be no distractions to her learning. The man, Hideki, had brought a rather large piles of scrolls that had included most of the common techniques of genjutsu that he was describing. Naknao picked up the first from the pile describing the performance of how to make people see flying pigs. She really didn’t think anyone would ever fall for this genjutsu - but it was what it was - a technique for the purpose of learning the basics of genjutsu.

She formed a seal and focused her chakra on manipulating Hidekis. Her chakra laced her vocal chords and then she spoke the words. ”When pigs fly” She said. She felt the chakra leave her throat and she directed it outward. She could feel her chakra take effect as it hooked into Hideki and began to manipulate his vision. ”Thats good.”

Mastering Genjutsu - Nakano

Post by HotelBravo » Thu Feb 01, 2024 7:53 am

”Alright thats good. Lets start the next one.” Hideki announced. Nakano took the time to roll the scroll back up and replace the string seal that kept the scroll in a tight roll and placed it as the start of a new pile of scrolls - one that had been mastered. She didn’t really feel like it was necessary to even say that she mastered teh technique. It was so simple and basic that it was more like intuition. She clucked her tongue as she moved onto the next technique. She unrolled the scroll for pins and needles. It seemed this technique needed a senbon of some sort. Something that could prick the skin.

”Do you have any senbon?” Hideki asked seeing that Nakano had looked up from the scroll. Nakano shook her head. One would think that she would carry a senbon being a shinobi practicied in medicine - but unfortunately she wasn’t exactly a practitioner of flawless aim so she had to rely on her chakra control and jutsu instead. Hideki formed a couple of seals and formed one out of dirt and handed it over to her.

”that…doesn’t seem very sanitary does it?” She asked looking at the dirt senbon needle that Hideki had made for her. She used an easy sanitation jutsu to clean t he needle and decided to hope for the best when Hideki just shrugged back at her as a response.

”so like before, focus your chakra on the needle, and use it inject the chakra into the body. This one targets the sense of touch.” Hideki folded his arms and waited for her to follow his instructions. She closed her eyes only for a moment so she could focus chakra into t he needle.

”Ha!” She threw the needle at Hideki and hit his arm. Like a poison her chakra spread through his chakra network, manipulating the chakra of his skin and his sense of touch. It must have been having an affect because Hideki was gritting his teeth. It wasn’t exactly a painful genjutsu but she could see that it made him immensely uncomfortable.

”Alright already knock that one off. I hate that sensation. Knock it off already.” He complained to her. She teased him by leaving the technique for just a few moments more. Then she released it.

After performing the hand seals and pricking the opponent with some sort of small weapon (usually senbon), the opponent feels their arms and legs fall asleep. It feels as if the blood flow to these appendages has basically stopped, making their movements a tad sluggish and just all around uncomfortable. This jutsu doesn’t really hinder a person, but it makes everything they do feel off. For those who are attuned to the way their body feels during battle, it can be extremely distracting. Mastering Genjutsu - Nakano

Post by HotelBravo » Thu Feb 01, 2024 8:12 am

Nakano rolled up the scroll for the pins and needles and wrapped the string seal back onto it and placed it into the pile that she was done with. She looked up briefly at Hideki who pulled out the senbon and tossed it to the ground - it crumbled back into the dirt it was comprised of. ”doton seems like a very useful style.” Nakano absently complimented as she picked up the next technique from the genjutsu pile.

”It certainly is handy - but focus. We’re not learning doton today.” Hideki gestured to the scroll that Nakano had picked up. She sighed and undid the string seal and began to read it over. This was a basic illusionary genjutsu effecting the sense of smell. Unlike the other ones which had a specific vector of attack - the trigger for this one was the sight of performing the genjutsu itself. ”Not very subtle is it?” She asked as she looked over the scroll. It described how to lace one’s hands in chakra and as someone looked upon it it would allow them to attack their senses. ”If this has a visual trigger, when does it attack the sense of smell?”

”The two are in a similar location after all. The nose is near the eyes, and that's even closer when you think about it in chakra terms. The sight is just where the chakra enters. So this one is a little more complicated than the other techniques, and yet simple enough that's excellent for learning the basics. It is D rank after all.” Hideki explained. Nakano couldn’t find any grounds to argue - her knowledge of medicine had included chakra networks to a degree and so that meant that she knew what he was talking about when he mentioned that the chakra was even closer than the physical location of the pair. The network was entwined much like the nerves were bundled - so it was not too difficult to envision how one might effect the sense of smell based on his description.

She placed her hands together and summoned the chakra just a handful of basic seals thrown together in quick order was enough to begin the technique. She saw him scrunch up his nose in disgust. ”All these basics are just unpleasant.” Nakano laughed and rolled the scroll back up.

After performing the necessary hand seals, any victim that sees the user preforming the hand seals will be induced under the genjutsu. This causes the target to begin to smell rotting flesh and decaying bodies. The jutsu can cause nausea and vomiting from the target, depending on how sensitive their sense of smell is. The smell of the dead can also cause some mental stress on the target. This genjutsu lasts for three (3) posts.

Mastering Genjutsu - Nakano

Post by HotelBravo » Thu Feb 01, 2024 8:20 am

Nakano placed the previous technique into the mastered scroll pile and reached for the next one. She noted that there were only this one and one more that had comprised the pile of basic techniques that Hideki had brought for her to study. She undid the string seal on the scroll and rolled it out. This one was another sound genjutsu, but it affected the brain. One would perform hand seals and then whistle. The hand seals were necessary to focus and control the chakra. It was a delicate operation to affect one’s mind, while the whistle was the vector to get the chakra into their network.

”Paranoid. This one is a decent basic that can throw an enemy off by making them believe they are seeing an enemy out of the corner of the peripheral vision. To a degree affecting the senses is all targeting the mind - but this one in particular is focused on the brain. Because its not actually a visual genjutsu despite what it may seem at first glance. On top of that, whistling is a very effective attack vector because you really don’t even need to be in the line of sight to perform the technique.” Hideki began to explain. Naknao nodded. This one might actually be useful, as a distraction for an enemy.

”What if I don’t know how to whistle?” Nakano asked with a coy tone just barely noticeable in her voice. Hideki gave her a look and rolled his eyes.

”Really girl? It doesn’t really matter how good your whistle is, as long as it makes a noise.” He expounded on her question. It was g ood information to know even if Nakano wasn’t needing it herself necessarily. She could whistle well enough.

She formed the seals and inhaled. The hand seals helped her gather the chakra together which she the brought once again into her vocal chords. She whistled and expelled both air and chakra at once. She felt her chakra invade Hideki’s once more and she targeted his mind. To make him think he was seeing someone out of the corner of his eyes. She saw him try to resist but he couldn’t help but flinch and look. ”Yeah that is a good technique, works even against experienced opponents because even more so because they are so hyper vigilant to enemies sneaking up on them.”

Mastering Genjutsu - Nakano

Post by HotelBravo » Thu Feb 01, 2024 8:31 am

Nakano replaced the string on the scroll and placed it in the pile with the others and picked up the last of the D rank genjutsu. She unraveled the string seal and expanded the scroll to its full length. Boom. That was the name of this technique?

”Who even names these?” She complained to Hideki. Seriously, a technique called boom it was ridiculous. She looked up to Hideki who shrugged.

”No idea, but its a technique thats well used and documented. It’s not just here that people use it to study the basics. This one is another basic technique, a good distraction like the paranoid one. It actually affects two senses. With the sound of an explosion of course that can be startling but there is also usually a tactile sense that comes with explosions. You can feel the rush of wind pressure even if you are nowhere near the danger.” Hideki explained. ”So the illusion is a basic distraction - sound and touch - just enough to get your enemy to turn around and defend themselves from an attack that isn’t even occurring.”

”I see. I think I can appreciate a distraction like this technique. Even in a team situation you could create an opening for an ally with just a basic attack like this.” Nakano looked over the hand seals instructions on the scroll. She did a practice run - a dry run as it were with the seals before she rolled the scroll back up and replaced the string seal. She dropped it in the pile with the others.

”Okay, I’m ready.”

She flashed through a series of seals - her chakra molding and shaping like clay and then into her fingers. She snapped her fingers. She watched Hideki’s face, he winced as teh genjutsu took hold. Even an experienced Shinobi would fall for basic techniques like these. Hideki even knew that the techniques were coming and he had a hard time resisting his instincts. She was really starting to get an appreciation for genjutsu. It seemed it was much more powerful than she had ever considered.

”Amazing. I think I’m really starting to get the hang of it. These are fun! I think I can think of some good ways tto use this kind of techniques in a battle situation.” Nakano looked to Hideki who seemed to agree.

Mastering Genjutsu - Nakano

Post by HotelBravo » Thu Feb 01, 2024 9:03 am

”Alright, we’re now going to be starting the trickier techniques. You breezed through the other ones pretty quickly, but don’t expect that same level of ease here. You’ll probably need to try at least once or twice unless you are some kind of genius. If you are experienced with genjutsu and battle its usually easier to figure these ones out, but being the case that you haven’t been in a war before I think this will be your first time with these kind of jutsu. The C rank pile. Go ahead and pick one up and lets get started on deciphering how to perform these kinds of techniques. ” Hideki gestured to the pile of scrolls that were for C rank techniques which had been placed on a the ground - although they were on a cloth to keep them from getting dirty.

Nakano stooped down and picked up the first of the C rank scrolls. She unraveled it and was stunned when she was hit with a wall of text for what sounded like a simple technique. ”this is a C ranked technique? Doubt? Is it really that hard to get someone to be affected by this kind of technique? It reminds me of the paranoid technique which was only a D rank.” Nakano shook her head and couldn’t help but give a nervous chuckle, as she began to memorize the techniques chakra structure.

”That’s the thing though - the difference is why Paranoid is a D rank technique and an introductory technique in comparison to a technique like Doubt. This one is classified as a status Genjutsu. Itt is stronger than Paranoid because you not placing a simple suggestion of an illusion you are actually manipulating their thoughts with this technique. Theoretically you could make people think whatever you wanted with Genjutsu - but for now we’re sticking to the basics. You can figure out those on your own time - We’re on a tight schedule preparing for the war and we need you into fighting shape.”

The war. Nakano thought about the war. The death that she hoped to occur. Maybe even her death. She would probably look like a beautiful corpse. Stunning. It would hurt Takeshi probably, but then he may also die too. It honestly was so baffling that Crescent had decided to take advantage of the Hokage’s absence. What would they do when he returned? Perhaps they were counting on him not returning. The more she thought about it the more she realized that this was likely the reason why they thought to gamble on this.

They were trying to force Konoha to withdraw from Iwa, so Iwa could continue its unfettered invasion of the wind country. The politics of war were not something that she had ever been interested in before, but now she was getting more and more excited for what the future more lie for her. Fighting a war. Fighting someone to the death. The experience would be so fulfilling.

Time for the jutsu. Her focus turned to the task at hand. She memorized the hand seals and the pitch of the whistle before she rolled up the scroll and resealed it, setting it aside from the other C rank jutsu scrolls that Hideki had brought. She performed the seals and then began to whistle just like the prescription for the jutsu’s performance.

The chakra vibrating on her vocal chords, she invaded Hideki’s chakra network through his ears much like she had done on previous instances. She saw him make an unpleasant face before placing his hands together.

”Kai.” He disrupted her technique. ”I’m not sure what exactly you were trying to do there, but you need to keep focus. I can tell when you are performing the jutsu correctly and I definitely did not feel any of the doubt that I should have. Remember its a delicate jutsu. Control your chakra and carefully perform the technique speed will come with time and practice. This isn’t the paranoid technique so avoid manipulating any sight based chakra. This is purely mind and sound.” He explained to her where her faults lied with this technique.

Nakano tried again. She made sure to be more methodical with her handseals so that her control would be to such a greater degree for this performance of the technique. She manipulated her chakra with a strong and heavy hand. It took most of her focus as she tried to get it to match the descriptions of the scroll. Then she whistled again. Hideki seemed to pause for a moment.

”Try saying something?” He prompted.

”did it work? Are you under a genjutsu?” She responded. She watched him release the technique with another Kai.

”Nice job, that time did it.Just remember how your chakra felt and you should be able to do it again no problem.”

For the next three posts, the victims of this technique will feel tinges of doubt when listening to other people talk. While the doubt isn't strong, it creates a slight feeling that can be used to dissuade them from following instructions of other people if utilized properly.
