News Flies

It was a lazy Sunday. A thin crowd of people inhabited the streets of one of Konoha's market districts, but just like himself, they were there for a casual stroll. Most shops were closed and the little professional activity present were the few street performers. Being it halfway through the afternoon, the sun shone a dim orange, as if the star itself was taking it easy at the end of a busy week.

Madara enjoyed the light breeze as he slowly stepped through the familiar streets. He had no serious destination in mind, content with simply taking one step after the other and letting his mind roam free. His thoughts ranged from his recent graduation to his family's performance schedule, to less down-to-earth matters. In his downtime, the boy was an avid daydreamer. He imagined himself toppling legendary foes, defending the village, retrieving powerful artifacts in risky missions. Of course, the best part was when he imagined the glory and recognition he would attain from the civilians and his fellow ninja. Hours would go by without notice, endless epics being constructed entirely in his head.

It was as he passed a juggler that his grandiose train of thought was interrupted. Not by the juggler, although the man made an interesting choreography involving self-multiplying balls of wood and his exaggerated efforts to maintain their constant movement. No, what would stop the young shinobi's thoughts would be a strange, nearly white and shapeless object gliding quickly through the air and smacking him right in the face. It enveloped his head, and was almost rebelling against his efforts to rip it off. After several humiliating moments that would have had better use displayed in one of his family's comedic acts, he managed to peel it off of his own visage and inspect the damned thing.

It was a copy of that day's edition of "The Flying Leaf", one of the village's several newspapers. The Flying Leaf? No shit! He looked around, trying to find the paper's owner, if one was to be in sight.
