2) Stats and How they Work

Post by NSRP » Sat Oct 31, 2015 7:30 pm

Naruto Saigen Roleplay operates off of what is called a “Relative Stat System”, in simple terms this means that individual stat values don’t mean anything in and of themselves; they only have value when compared to each other. Having 24 speed may be universally recognized as “pretty fast” but it’s not given an actual value. All that matters is that 24 speed is faster than 11 speed, and slower than 38 speed. As a frame a reference, a stat difference from 1 to 9 is still considered manageable. Oftentimes, stat gaps in this range are able to be overcome with the other stats, good techniques, and good roleplaying. For example, if you have 7 less strength than someone, and you're in a grapple with them, you may still be able to overcome them if you have a specific technique for grappling, or if your endurance is much larger than theirs.
Similarly, jutsu and abilities that contain stat checks (e.g. "this jutsu effects anyone with a [strength] lower than the user's") are never absolute in their effects unless there is a large relative stat difference (10 or more). Simply having 1-2 stats lower than the check threshold does not mean you are unavoidably subjected to the maximum effect of the technique, but would instead be somewhat resistant.

Our stat system is based around the number 50. Fifty is the absolutely maximum of each stat, and serves as a reference counterpart to the absolute bottom, which is 1. You cannot have a stat valued at 0. Characters are distributed stats based on their rank, which gives them an average, assuming their stats were spread evenly across all ranks. There are 6 stats to distribute to, listed below. Each stat has either a singular or dual purpose,
  • Chakra Pool: The Chakra Pool Stat, usually shortened to Chakra, has a single purpose, in expressing how much chakra you're capable of putting out. The larger your chakra pool, the more jutsu you can use, and ultimately, the longer you can fight. If you use up all your chakra, you will die, but usually reaching 0 in combat means you pass out, as your body will conserve a tiny bit to keep you running.
  • Endurance The Endurance stat has two purposes. The first is to determine how many hits you can take before you can't take anymore. Characters with higher endurance stats can take more hits, and endure more damage. The second is to determine how much physical output you're capable of. Characters with higher endurance can use more taijutsu without damaging themselves.
  • Control: The Control stat has two purposes. The first determines the maximum strength of your ninjutsu. Your ninjutsu default at a Speed & Strength equal to your control stat (though you can choose to lower this to conserve energy). The second determines how efficiently you use your chakra, higher control means you expend less chakra doing when performing your techniques making your chakra pool last longer.
  • Strength: The Strength stat has a dual purpose. The first determines how powerful your strikes are. A character with high strength is able to exert immense physical power against the world through, and resisting, strikes. Strength and Endurance are closely related, and characters with high strength but low Endurance risk hurting themselves with their own raw power. The second determines how much damage your can resist. You would have a hard time cutting off the arm of someone with high strength, and an even harder time stopping them from continuing to fight if they have high Endurance along with it.
  • Speed: The Speed stat has a single purpose. It determines how quickly the individual is able to perform gross movements. This means running, jumping, punching, kicking, and so forth. The closer you are moving to your max speed, the less you are capable of doing, including the speed in which you can perform hand seals for ninjutsu.
  • Will Power: The Will Power stat, usually shortened to Will, has a dual purpose. The first determines your ability to exert and resist the hypnotic effect of genjutsu. Characters with high Will Power are not only able to cast stronger genjutsu, but resist them easily, where-as characters with low Will Power quickly fall to the effects of the genjutsu. The second determines your ability to persevere through mental effects, less Will Power means you are more susceptible to the effects of confusion, hypnosis, mind control, intimidation, and the like.
You are able to distribute your stats between these 6 different skills. The number that you are able to distribute is given by your rank, which you are able to choose, between D rank through A rank. Your rank determines the number of stats distributed to your character.
  • Genin: 40 Stats
  • Chuunin: 80 Stats
  • Special Jounin: 120 Stats
  • Jounin: 160 Stats
Stats are utilized to rank up, more information of which can be found [Here], and are earned via Purchasing them or [Training]. The stat ceiling is 250. Meaning your total stats can never exceed that amount.

Additionally, stat distribution can be viewed as Tiers. Most easily explained within their ranks, but could also be explained more descriptively, seen below.
Stat RangeTierComparison
1 - 5HumansThis is within the range of your normal human of varying degrees, from your normal 6 year old, to a relatively fit individual in their late 20s, to a person who dabbles in a few scholarly ventures.
6 - 15Advanced HumansThe range of extraordinary individuals, this stat range is for people committing feats of miracles, to mastering their bodies through meditation, to the most elite of athletes.
16 -25Super HumansBeyond the range of normal humans, but still within the range of mortality. These are individuals that have far exceeded the expectations for man. Able to outrun the fittest of athletes, pick up on the weakest of hints, and control their bodies and minds in ways thought to be fiction.
26 -35LegendaryEntering the realms of mythology. These are people able to commit fantastic feats of legend, grappling with death, recovering from wounds that would end the lives of normal men, and conquering beasts feared around the world.
36 -45Demi-GodsBeyond those of legends and entering godhood, this tier of stats refers to those that accomplish feats that have likely never been considered. Mastering various arts with ease, carrying unimagineable loads on their backs, and conquering villages single handledly, people within these stat ranges can hardly be considered people anymore.
46-50GodsFeats only equitable of that of a supreme being, these are individuals capable of massacring countries on their own, foreseeing the future, and handling tasks never even imagined. People within these stat tiers are to be feared by all and recognized as by a work of the universe, and a threat to it.
