5) Roleplaying and Ranking Up

Post by NSRP » Wed Apr 01, 2020 2:13 am

Roleplaying on NSRP On NSRP, there are two categories that we divide roleplaying into Socials and Lonelies. In terms of how they're executed, they're mostly the same, you roleplay in the topic, then turn it in. However a social involves multiple characters and roleplayers, while a lonely involves only one roleplayer. Socials pay out to every character involved, while lonelies will only pay out once to the roleplayer. All threads, whether lonelies or socials, are CLOSED by default. There are exceptional cases, such as PvP or invasions.

Socials
Socials are any topic that involves multiple roleplayers. They can be as simply as two characters hanging out, to as complex as a super fantastic mission to save the world from a madman who wants to turn the moon into an eyeball. The vast majority of topics on NSRP are socials. You roleplay whatever you’re wanting to do, to accomplish whatever goal you’d like. Socials are redeemed [Topic Grading] section. The template is available in that section. Once redeemed, a moderator will grade the topic, then reward points equal to the grade. Grade range from 0 to 10, based on various factors like quality, length, and development. You receive a Ryo payout equal to x2 your grade.

Grading is done on two scales. The first scale is automatic, but the second scale is opt-in.

The first scale is the Simple ranges from 0 to 10 points, and it is based off a quick post-quality assessment. These checks are largely simple in nature, the moderator will typically only read one or two posts from each roleplayer, and then scan the topic to see if there are a lot of one liners or meaningful posts. This type of grading is the more common type. As long as you aren’t spamming posts, this is an easy way to get a topic graded quickly. The Simple Scale does not come with any feedback from the grader.

The second scale is the Content scale. The content scale ranged of 0 to 12, and is considered an opt-in scale. This means any roleplayer that wants to be graded on this scale needs to specify. With the Content Scale, the moderator will read all the posts in the thread, and grade based on literary scales like grammar, prose, character development, meaning and so forth. This scale is far more in depth, and while the scale has the potential for more points, the grader is typically more critical in their assessment. With the content scale, the grader will give specific feedback as to why they gave the grade they did, things they felt could improve or areas they felt were lacking. This scale is great for writers who are looking for a way to improve and insight into their writing.

As a part of socials, we award bonuses for threads that are ‘consecutive’, meaning they are linked together in a larger plot. This increases the score of your grade, which is intended to encourage people to write larger, coherent, and continuous stories that are more engaging to the reader and the larger world.
  • Requires an overarching and/or underlying plot that connects all the threads. This could be 5 specific threads that are an actual mission, or a group of threads that show a specific character arc. But it should be clear to the read they are continuous (the end of one should feed directly into the next)
  • Threads must have one character in all of them to represent that continuity
  • Posts can’t be made in both threads simultaneously (emphasis on consecutive)
  • +1 per thread to a max of 5. Each character has their own counter.
  • Cannot include lonelies but lonelies don’t interrupt the continuity (i.e you could place a lonely reflecting on part of the story without resetting the count).
Lonelies
A subtype of socials, lonelies are topics that involve only the creator, and no other roleplayers. While other characters such as NPCs can also be utilized, lonelies are mostly used to establish developmental points for characters, explore background information on them, or to do trainings. It's advised that people keep a single thread that they use to put all their lonely threads in. Lonelies are scored on the same scale as socials, but because there is only one person involved, they tend to receive closer to the low end of scores. You are allowed to have your own characters interact in lonelies, but it shouldn’t be for furthering large plots and storylines, or collaborating in a way that seems incoherent to the rest of the world (your Konoha Ninja telling your Kiri ninja secrets randomly).
Storytelling and You Storytelling is a way of telling a story for someone without directly involving your character. This may be requested by a person, who wants a particular challenge for a thread or was directed by a moderator. None-the-less story telling a topic results in 5 additional Ryo (after all doubling and modifiers) on top of the amount originally awarded just for the storyteller. This is to encourage collaborative stories between people who couldn’t normally roleplay together!

PvP
PvP events have a panel of three judges to determine rulings in the event they are needed. These judges will be determined by lottery posted before or at the start of PvP events. When the lotteries are posted, the volunteers must meet the following criteria:

Not participating in the ongoing PvP Event
250 Forum Posts
3 Judges will be picked at random with 2 Alternatives

Judges and Alternatives will be paid 30 Ryo for their efforts at the end of the PvP event.

In the event a judge is making obviously biased calls, they can be pulled from being able to volunteer indefinitely. For example, if I’m ruling on a situation with Onu participating and I consistently disagree on any call that benefits him that everyone else is on the same page on without clear explanation, I can be replaced by an Alternate and unable to be able to volunteer as a judge in the future.

5) Roleplaying and Ranking Up

Post by NSRP » Wed Apr 01, 2020 2:13 am

Ranking Up It is always possible to move up in the ranks, so long as you can perform to the need of that rank. Each rank has different requirements for ranking up, based on the upcoming responsibilities, and the expectations for power and ability. In order to rank up, you simply have to meet the beginning stat total of the rank above you. The requirements and rewards for ranking up are listed below.
Current RankStat Point Requirement for Next Rank
Genin/D-rank80
Chuunin/C-rank120
Special Jounin/B-rank160
Jounin/A-rank200
Bannin Promotions, Chuunin Exams, and Kage Exams
Chuunin Exams are based on the village the shinobi is in, and changes depending on the village's circumstance. The Kage Exam is treated similarly, as each village has different requirements for what they expect of their leader. The Chuunin exam is not required if you would like to simply consider it a part of your characters history and put it in the background, you are allowed to. Otherwise, you should coordinate with your OOC in order to establish a thread for it, or you can wait as the forum will occasionally put up international chuunin exams as an event! Bannin promotions require certain requirements based on their Kage/OOC. Below is a spoiler containing the bannin promotions, chuunin exam, and kage exam for each village, and what is required to pass.
Sunagakure no SatoShow
Chuunin Exams in Sunagakure no Sato are one on one battles between two Genin. The purpose of this battle is to test each individual’s abilities and battle awareness skills. The Exam is held in an arena with only a panel of three judges present. These judges will decide together who, if either Genin, will be awarded the honor of ranking up.

Either or both Genin may pass based on the skills they show. Winning is not a condition of being granted Chuunin Rank. It should be noted that ending the life of the opponent is discouraged and would almost surely result in the denial of rank-up for that individual.
TBA
Konohagakure no SatoShow
Chuunin Exams in Konohagakure no Sato are made up of a two to three Genin team pitted against a single or occasional double Chuunin team. The purpose of this battle is to prove that while strong and capable alone, each Genin is capable of working as a team. The battle will take place at one of several small arenas throughout Konoha. Each arena has seating for family, friends, and the curious to watch. Though the battle is officially judged by a panel of three judges, these judges rely heavily on the input from the Chuunin.

Any number of the participants may passed based on their singular ability as well as their ability to work as a team. The strongest Genin would still fail the exam if he was unable to work with others and only as a single entity. It should be noted that death should never happen in Konoha’s exams. If a Genin were to take the life of either one of their teammates or the Chuunin he would not only be denied rank-up but also placed under heavy scrutiny.
The Hokage requires an IC talk and test for Jounins to be promoted to Bannin.
Typically the Hokage is initially chosen from a pool of three candidates by the Village Council as a whole, each of the three marked from best to worst. The 'best' will be the first to go through what Konoha calls the Hokage Trials. These trials come in a trio, the Trial of Spirit, Trial of Heart, and the Trial of Mind, each trial testing a particular part of what the Council sees as the role of the Hokage.

In the Trial of Spirit the potential Hokage must demonstrate his/her ability to bring both hope and caring to the people of Konoha. While the simplest of the trials in physical demand, this should weigh heavily on the emotional mind of the candidate and show that they can care for even the 'most insignificant' member of the village as a part of their family.

There are many who stumble on the Trial of Heart, for in this trial the one being tested is expected to inspire others into action. While also not always physically demanding, this takes a toll on one's own drive. The candidate must inspire others into action for themselves and others, without taking action themselves. (Example: Getting a small community to stand up for itself against an enemy, without physical interference from the candidate.)

Much like the aspect of the Mind of the Will of Fire is not the least important, it is often the most difficult trial of all. This IS the most demanding of the trials, requiring the candidate to under interrogation by the Yamanaka. Every aspect of their mind will be put to the test as they are tested over and over again in both loyalty and durability.

More details may be found in the What Konoha is Like thread.
Kumogakure no SatoShow
Chuunin Exams in Kumogakure no Sato are solo events in which the Genin in question is sent on a C-Rank mission by the village. The purpose and idea behind this is to test the ability of the Genin to assure not only the individual but the village as well that the Genin has the skills of both mind and body to serve their country from the level of Chuunin.

In order to achieve their rank-up the Genin must be successful in all aspects of the mission handed out to them. The mission is not required to be combat oriented.
As Kumogakure is a democratic society, in order to become Raikage you must convince the members of the council to engage in a vote of no-confidence against the current Raikage. If the previous Raikage has perished, then you must instead convince them to elect you as Raikage. It is essentially a political challenge in which you must prove yourself worthy of the title of Raikage, whether that be through strength, intelligence or other more cunning manners.
Kirigakure no SatoShow
Chuunin Exams in Kirigakure no Sato are one on one battles between two Genin deemed battle ready. The purpose of this battle is to test the Genin’s battle readiness and how well they can compose themselves during the fight. Because of this, only the winner of the battle will be allowed to rank-up. Though in past times the taking of the opponent’s life was acceptable the rules have been changed and such an act would be severely frowned upon and the proctors will step in before hand if needed.

The Exam can be held in any number of arenas and can be done privately or publicly depending on what the Genin desire. Though winning is required to be allowed to pass, winning is not a guarantee of ranking up. The village officials will stand as judges and make the final decision on the rank up.
The Mizukage requires an IC talk for Jounin to be promoted to Bannin.
Kage Exams in Kirigakure no Sato are a rare sight. Most commonly, the kage is "elected" by the heads of the 5 families, though both the current Kage and the Daimyo retain the right to simply reject the elected individual. Most often, an election is not held unless the current Kage has passed. This, however, is only the technical answer. Historically, the title of Kage is seized through force. May it be through open challenge, or through assassination, conquering the current kage in battle via forfeiture or death would bestow the challenger with the title of Mizukage. Failing, however, often ends in death.
Iwagakure no SatoShow
Ranking up in Iwagakure no Sato to Chuunin can be achieved in one of two ways. The first is the traditional Chuunin Exam where a panel of three judges will oversee a one versus one duel. The challenger will be graded on a scale of 1-10 and must grade 16 or above to pass. The grade is decided on combat strength, intelligence, resourcefulness, etc during the fight. The second way is through a field promotion, seen most recently with the Soul Country Invasion and Great War. Genin who sufficiently participate in a wartime/invasion thread may use it as means to rank up to Chuunin.
The tests for a budding Tsuchikage first tests his or her mettle as a denizen of the Rock country known for it's harsh climate and unforgiving terrain. Secondly it tests their ability as an Iwagakure shinobi in one on one combat with the victor leaving victorious and the loser left to lick their wounds if they are lucky enough to survive the ordeal. Lastly the candidate must prove themselves a leader worthy of commanding the respect of the hardened survivors of Iwagakure.

Test 1.
The first test is a test of survival, the candidate is left stranded in the harshest terrain and must not only survive but make it back to the village in one piece.

Test 2.
The second test is a test of combat against the current Tsuchikage, another candidate or a council elected opponent, while this test is not to the death it is not uncommon for competitors to lose their lives.

Test 3
The third test while the least grueling is likely the most difficult and requires a majority vote by the Iwagakure council.

Companion Rank Ups

Companions rank up in the same way as characters do, and are awarded points to spend on jutsu when they rank up. However, companions are notoriously difficult to master, as training them often takes away from the training of the owner. Below is a table describing the stat requirements for each rank, and the points for jutsu rewarded for the rank up.
Current RankStat Point Requirement to rank upPoints Rewarded for Rank Up
E-rank2010 Points
D-rank4010 Points
C-rank8020 Points
B-rank12020 Points
A-rank16020 Points
When a companion ranks up from D to C, C to B, and B to A, they also receive a Lump Sum Reward viewable in the next post.

5) Roleplaying and Ranking Up

Post by NSRP » Wed Apr 01, 2020 2:14 am

Prestige Slot

Introduction
In the world of Naruto Saigen, the objective of many players it build competitive characters with loads of stats and jutsu. Since this is the common measurement of strength, this causes many players to create characters at higher ranks in order to start with higher stats and jutsu. In the end, this unintentionally systematically discourages starting at lower ranks. In an effort to give players more of an incentive and reason to start at lower ranks besides story, we've designed a reward system that allows players to unlock non-combat advantages that allow for things like quality of life improvements, or special aesthetic effects. The advantages are known as perks and each one occupies 1 prestige slot- a new type of slot awarded via ranking up or completing end-game plot boards.
Unlocking a Prestige Slot All characters start with 0/0 prestige slots. There is no maximum number of prestige perk slots. As alluded to, certain in-character achievements allow a character to unlock a prestige perk. The first and most common way of unlocking prestige slots is through ranking-up. 1 slot is rewarded for each of the following:
  • Ranking up to Chuunin
  • Ranking up to Special Jounin
  • Ranking up to Jounin
  • Ranking up to Bannin
  • Hitting Max Stats
However, due to balance players who started at higher ranks also have the opportunity to earn prestige slots. Unlike the first path however, these players cannot earn their remaining slots until after reaching end-game. Not only does this ensure no one has a direct advantage over the other, but this also allows end-game characters who traditionally have no benefit from doing plot boards to have more incentive to interact in the world and use their powerful characters to change things. Perks can be bought for 75 Ryo each once you reach 250 stats total.
Spending Prestige Slots Once you've gained a prestige slot, simply fill out a modification stating which perk you wish to unlock and it will be modded onto your application. As a reminder, each perk costs 1 slot. Note that some perks can be unlocked more than once. Prestige slots are not refundable. Once a slot is occupied, you are stuck with that perk.

There are three types of perks: Quality of Life Perks, Lump Perks, and Cosmetic Perks. Quality of Life Perks give permanent discounts. Lump Sum Perks allow you to get a one-time reward up front, and cosmetic perks merely allow flavour changes to powerful characters who want to differentiate themselves cosmetically from others.

Scaling Rewards Shinobi who rank up from Genin to Chuunin (and beyond) are treated a little different. First, they have scaled perks, meaning the perks they take are slightly more effective at what they do. Their perks pay out slightly more than the normal iteration of a perk and reflect their growth from young shinobi to professionals in their field. Once unlocked, these are permanently unlocked. Second, each time you rank up, you get a Lump Sum Reward, so when you post the mod to increase your rank, you can take whichever Lump Sum you want and put it on the character.

Secondary Specialization You have put more time and effort into a secondary specialization than most have put into their primary. This perk grants the specialization training bonuses to either a new affinity, or concentration.1

Feats A type of perk, Feats are unique in that they are not paid for but instead are earned through doing particularly incredible, impressive, or magnanimous things within our world. While some feats will make you famous within the world, others will go completely unnoticed except by the big archivist in the sky documenting what all our characters do. Feats are awarded by staff when threads are turned in, but can also be “nominated” by other players. For example if your character defeated 10 other shinobi in combat, when the thread is graded the staff might say this is worthy of a feat, or a reader may go “This is incredible, definitely worth a feat!”

Feats are special in that they stay with the character’s essence indefinitely. This means that when you earn a feat, even if the character dies, if the reincarnation system is utilized their successor will carry the perk associated with the feat with them.

When you earn a feat 3 things can happen:
  • You are awarded a cosmetic prize reflective of the feat. This could be a world famous title, a special colored chakra, a gorgeous cloak, or things like this. This is meant to represent the characters accomplishment directly. This always happens.
  • You then choose one of the two options below:
    • You also receive a Feat slot. You can attach any perk you have to this feat slot, and that perk will be carried over with the feat.
    • You receive a feat slot, and can elect to have staff/the member-base decide what goes in it. This could be a perk you don’t have, or it could be a completely unique perk. This will also carry over upon reincarnation.
You can only begin earning feats after 200 stats. There is no cap to the number of feats you can earn, but the more preeminent you become the harder it becomes to defy the expectations of your renown.
