MURAMASA, FUDO
General Information Age: 15
Gender: Male
Height: 5ft 6in
Weight: 128 lbs
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: While Fudo is still growing, he can definitely be described as conventionally handsome. Fudo has short, messy red hair and thin eyebrows above a pair of expressive amber eyes. He has a sharp jaw and he usually has an easygoing expression on his face that naturally puts most people at ease, but when he is serious he looks older and more mature than his age would suggest. Fudo’s skin is a bit on the fair side due to spending much of his time indoors working at the forge, though his ancestry suggests that he tans rather easily if he spends a lot of time in the sun.
  • Body: Fudo is moderately tall for his age, with broad shoulders and a muscular frame that belies how his passion for smithing and his training in the art of the sword both require a large amount of physically-intensive labor. In spite of his casual, easy-going demeanor, Fudo’s posture is usually exceptional, though while relaxing with a good book or watching rain or snow he tends to slouch a little.
  • Notable Features: In general, the two things that catch most peoples’ eyes the moment that they see Fudo are his bold red hair and his molten amber eyes. His hands are more heavily calloused than most shinobi due to both his sword training and due to the time that he spends working in the forge. His hands are covered in small, long-healed nicks and burns that he had picked up over the course of his time as a blacksmith, and his arms and torso are not too far behind.----
Clothing/Accessories: The usual set of clothing that Fudo wears on a day-to-day basis, as well as in combat, are the same clothes that he wears while working at the forge. Fudo wears a well-fitted, tight black shirt that (rather unintentionally) shows off his physique, with thin yellow lines running down from beneath his arm down to his waist. Over this shirt, Fudo has what can only be described as a white mantle over his shoulders and upper torso, with the open coat nature of the mantle closing at the front, with fairly loose sleeves decorated with a light golden-colored flame design. He wears a thick black hakama with the same yellow lined design running down the legs, with the bottom of the hakama legs secured in place with a pair of cloth shin guards with red bands of cloth around the ankles. On his feet, Fudo wears a set of black open-foot sandals. Fudo wears a set of thin black plates on the backs of his hands, secured to a set of wristbands to keep them in place. Finally, around his waist, Fudo wears a thick red rope obi.
Picture: Personality:
  • General: Muramasa Fudo is a person who has devoted himself to the pursuit of a single goal, and yet as much as he would like to rid himself of any outside connections in pursuit of the goal, he can’t bring himself to willingly let people down, so he makes an effort to reach out and interact with other people in spite of his borderline obsession with his goal. With a dashing attitude, Fudo refuses to hesitate or stagnate in his pursuit of his goal.

He isn’t one to mince words, with a rather blunt style of speaking that doesn’t waste words on meaningless compliments, yet that only emphasizes that the compliments that he does give out are genuine. Fudo is hesitant to let people get close to him, so while he may socialize, he often holds others at arm's reach, but if someone manages to get close to him despite this, they often find that he is a warm, passionate, caring young man.

He does not particularly enjoy training, but does enjoy working hard outside of it, whether it is a commission for a weapon, or even just someone asking him to do a simple favor. However, when it comes to Fudo’s goals and aspirations, he devotes every fiber of his being towards it, sometimes even crossing the line from pragmatic to being outright ruthless in pursuit of that goal. He refuses to call his goal a dream, because doing so brings up the possibility of failure, which is not an option. Fudo is also a perfectionist, not only being incredibly harsh on his own skills, but also on the skills of other blacksmiths, and he sees it as morally wrong to sell subpar equipment.
  • Hopes/Dreams: The aforementioned goal of Fudo’s is one that he freely shares with anybody who asks, and it is something that he has always devoted his entirety towards: the creation of the ultimate swords, one which can sever all things, even fate itself. In fact, Fudo’s pursuit of this goal is his entire reason for learning to fight in the first place, as his mindset is that while blacksmiths understand weapons on a deep level, this understanding can be deepened by expanding one’s knowledge and skill with actually using a weapon.
  • Fears: Despite his devotion, Fudo has a deep, underlying fear of failure that impacts much of his life, as this fear of failure not only fuels his perfectionist attitude, but frequently drives him to work until he collapses from exhaustion. He does have one other fear however, and that is the fear of deep water, whether it is the ocean, a lake, or even a particularly large river, he can’t help but be terrified by the idea of entering one.
  • Combat Mentality: In combat, Fudo can best be described as cold-blooded. He cares little for the normal honorable samurai mentality that so many others in his country abide by, though he does find it an admirable ideal. He is not afraid to fight dirty, and accusations of dishonor and cowardice in battle roll off of his back, as the only thing he holds pride in is his craft. While Fudo does, and always will specialize in armed combat, other disciplines interest him, and he is interested in learning to utilize chakra and expand his knowledge in order to better himself and his craft.

Katana:
A simple, unnamed blade that Fudo crafted for his own usage in order to learn various styles of Kenjutsu. While he did not intend for the blade to be actively used in combat, Fudo does not take half-measures for his crafting, so this “sub-par” blade is on par with most blades that people would consider to be fairly well made.

The blade is roughly 27.5 inches long, with a one-handed grip wrapped in simple black cloth. Its tsuba is a simple rectangular piece of metal that has its edges painted a mint-green color.

While this typically doesn’t grant the individual himself any additional powers, it allows him to make more powerful gear for himself and shinobi than what can typically be found. However, those with such familiarity with weapons and armor are often skilled at noticing the strengths and weaknesses of weapons they face, and allow them to more easily exploit them.

D-Rank:
[Weapons Crafting • Swords]
D-rank Weapon Crafting Discipline
A common weapon among shinobi and civilian fighters alike, swords can be a valuable piece of equipment. This smith has specifically learned how to craft various type of normal sword type weapons including daggers, short swords, and katana, reducing the production cost for them by half.

[Weapons Crafting • Faults]
D-rank Weapon Crafting Discipline
Perfectly crafted weapons are rare, few and far between. A skilled smith is able to recognize and strike against weak points in other weapons during battle. At this level, striking against these weak points reduces the structural integrity of the equipment by -3, requiring less strength to break or destroy them.

[Weapons Crafting • Integrity]
D-rank Weapon Crafting Discipline
Masters of their craft are able to recognize their own limitations and weak points. This smith has learned to protect weapon points of their own weapons and equipment. When wielding weapons they’ve made, this crafter’s weapons are able to remain in-tact when they receive a strike that would break them, but will break if they continue to be used. For example, if they have a sword with 15 strength that blocks a 40 strength strike, it would not shatter, but if they used it to block another strike it would immediately shatter. This allows the crafter to avoid losing weapons.
C-Rank:
[Weapons Crafting • Refined Faults]
C-rank Weapon Crafting Discipline
Perfectly crafted weapons are rare, few and far between. A highly skilled smith is able to recognize and strike effectively against the weak points in other weapons during armed conflict. At this level, striking against these weak points reduces the structural integrity of the equipment in question by -6, requiring less strength to break or destroy them.
Iaido StyleShow
D-Rank:
*[Iaido • Ancestral Focus]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The hallmark of Iaido is its practitioners abilities to launch an attack even when their swords are sheathed. This Discipline represents the practitioner's capacity to consistently execute a sword draw and slash all in one movement by gripping the edge of the scabbard and pulling the scabbard slightly forward before drawing the sword. This Discipline enables the practitioner to immediately draw their sword and attack at the start of combat.

*[Iaido • Weapon Mastery]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Since Iaido is a style that prioritizes speed over brute strength, wise usage of the blade is paramount to the practitioner's success in the style. This Discipline represents the practitioner's knowledge of their weapon's strengths and weaknesses in combat, allowing them to use the weapon more efficiently both inside and outside of its use in Iaido techniques and avoid unnecessarily presenting their weapon's blind spots to the opponent.

*[Iaido • Ambidexterity]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
After practicing for a long amount of time with the concept of using both of their hands with equal skill, the user has developed a level of ambidexterity that allows them to utilize both hands equally and as effectively without any penalty. This extends to other methods of combat or simple everyday life as well.
C-Rank:
*[Iaido • Shinigami Draw]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Losing the use of one's hand or arm in a fight can be a death sentence, but Iaido has found a simple, elegant response to this desperate situation. Using their free hand, the practitioner momentarily braces the edge of their sword against the inside of the scabbard before drawing. While it does not confer the instant acceleration benefit of its parent technique, this Discipline does allow the practitioner to use Iaido techniques at their normal speed even with only one hand.

*[Iaido • Ancestral Visage]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Using Iaido to its fullest requires a keen eye and quick reactions, enabling its users to target weaknesses and openings that their opponents present almost instantaneously. This Discipline represents the practitioner's ability to attack openings that present themselves, the practitioner now able to reflexively attack an opening in almost the same moment that it is observed. This Discipline reduces the gap of time between a practitioner recognizing a potential opening for attack and launching the attack to exploit said opening to almost nil.

History
Historical AccountsShow
Muramasa Fudo was born to a small blacksmith family in Iron Country. His family was old, able to trace back their lineage for centuries, and every single member of their family took up the art of the forge. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the Muramasa family had forging in their blood. In Fudo however, this blood was particularly strong. From a young age, Fudo had trouble relating to others his age. Whereas other children, even his cousins in the Muramasa family, wanted to run around and play, he applied himself to learning how to forge.

It would not be long until his family began to notice his all-consuming, single-minded fixation on learning how to forge, and his parents grew worried for him. He was nothing like other children, and they were concerned that he would turn into a secluded hermit before he had a chance to truly enjoy life, so they began to impose limits on him, forcing him to stay away from anything related to smithing and play with other children. However, something about this went against the very core of who Fudo was, even if he did not yet realize it. All he knew was that they were forcing him away from the only thing that he truly felt passion for. And so, he decided to leave, making his way out of his home village with nothing but the clothes on his back as he headed to a larger town in order to try to find a blacksmith willing to make him an apprentice.

However, this would not go as well as Fudo had believed it would. None of the smiths that Fudo approached wanted to take a chance on taking such a young apprentice, which certainly wasn’t helped by Fudo’s lackluster communication skills. However, Fudo would not let this stop him. He decided that if nobody wished to teach him, then he would just have to teach himself. Fudo decided to take what little money he had and used it to occasionally rent out a forge, selling minor products and services for much cheaper than most blacksmiths charged, and little by little Fudo began to build up both funds and a reputation. After several years of living on the streets, saving up every ounce of money that he could spare, he eventually had enough to begin renting a small house of his own.

Over time, Fudo taught himself how to forge through trial and error, building up his knowledge as a smith as he did so. Now that he finally had a basic foundation for both his smithing and for his livelihood, Fudo began to earnestly pursue his goal, taking up kenjutsu in order to truly learn about and understand swords, and with the help of a retired shinobi who had little to offer for payment except knowledge, he even began the slow, tedious process of tapping into his chakra.

Forging was not the only thing that Fudo learned over the years. As he grew older and was forced to interact with other people on a regular basis, he slowly began to develop his personality into something beyond a mindless machine. He began to branch out, making connections and building up friendships as he grew to trust and rely on other people. He started taking up hobbies, learning how to cook, how to fish, and how to take care of livestock from the people around him. He began to relax, developing a mindset that allowed him to grow and change as a person, learning new things and establishing bonds without forsaking his goals and ideals. In other words, he began to mature, and rather than holding him back with meaningless connections and activities like Fudo had feared, he actually began to learn faster and faster, pushing himself beyond his limits without leaving everything behind.

On his 14th birthday, Fudo finally felt as though he knew enough about smithing that he decided to create his own sword, a simple, nameless katana that would serve him well while he strove to increase his knowledge. With this sword in hand, Fudo finally felt as though he was truly making progress towards his goal… but he knew that he had far too much left to learn to allow himself to grow comfortable.
