Mizutane Clan Revamp.

Post by Kanade » Tue Jan 24, 2023 7:38 pm

Mizutane Clan
General Information Type: House
Village: Land of Tea (Heart)
Size: Medium (3-5 Families)
Traits: Members of the Mizutane clan have raven black hair and eyes, all have an affinity to a primary element, or Eyes and hair that match their affinity. This is: Raiton, yellow hair and yellow eyes, Fuuton: Green hair and green eyes, Suiton: Blue hair and blue eyes, Doton: Brown hair and brown eyes, and Katon: red hair and red eyes.
Traditions: Training in the samurai arts.
Influence: While their influence is minimum, even though they are one of the oldest families in the country, it is due to a lack of desire for such influence rather than lack of ability to gain it.
History The Mizutane clan date back to the formation of Konohagakure and the creation of the Acadamy, assiting in teaching the basics of martial arts to the first generation of students. Once the acadamy and village were stable they chose not to join the village proper and instead settled in nearby Tea country. They brought with them the basics of Ninjutsu and continued to hone their swordsmanship each becoming masters of Iaido and augmenting it with the Shinobi arts. The mizutane clan wandered and found themselves a relatively new part of Heart and some surviving members can be found in places other than the newly established heart Shogunate. However, these are few and far between now.

A year hence, there was a clan split, between the clan members that wanted to stay in Konohagakure and those who wanted to join heart. The ones who defected to Heart were hunted down, including the head, Katonrai, Lin. Lin dealt the final blow to the Konohagakure faction, dividing it into smaller, unbound factions and joined in with Heart, enjoying the freedoms and privlidges that a new power afforded them, along with the technological advances of the newer Shogunate.

The scattered remnants that didn't join heart soon found that joining the main family was advantageous, but they did so with a caveat. Those who were not born into heart, or didn't join Lin in the first exodus out of Konohagakure have been branded on their backs, between their shoulder blades with a leaf broken by a sword. The Mizutane clan members now, that do not have their allegiance sworn to Heart are seen as open enemies of the Heart Mizutane clan.
Shinobi Information Definitions:
Requirements: All Members of the Mizutane clan have raven black hair and eyes, or Eyes and hair that match their affinity. This is: Raiton, yellow hair and yellow eyes, Fuuton: Green hair and green eyes, Suiton: Blue hair and blue eyes, Doton: Brown hair and brown eyes, and Katon: red hair and red eyes, as well as innate affinity for Fuuton, Raiton, Suiton, Doton, or Katon. Members must also have at least 5 Control and 5 Chakra Pool.

The affinity uses 'chi' instead of chakra, though this is denoted by CP and Control stats respectively.

Members must have the Iaido concentration.

Members must also have the sword concentration.

Clan Jutsu
Mizutane breathing:
[Mizutane Breathing]

~[Mizutane Breathing • Sheer focus]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The first rank of Mizutane breathing allows for the user to focus their blade to slash with the edge against their target every time. This effectively allows for the user to make deeper slashes, and avoid breaking their blade against harder surfaces that would normally chip or break their sword.

~[Mizutane Breathing • Calm focus]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: *[Mizutane Breathing • Sheer focus]
The second rank of Mizutane breathing allows for the user to flick their sword with increased accuracy, making it easier to place a particular part of the blade to their target such as the tip, the base, or the middle of the sword. This allows for the Mizutane clan member to fight with a damaged blade or even a broken blade.

~[Mizutane Breathing • Elemental breathing]
B-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: *[Mizutane Breathing • Calm focus] [20 control]
The third rank of Mizutane breathing allows for the user to focus their blade to slash through harder targets than normal by focusing their element into the edge of their blade. This technique enhances the edge of their blade and makes it strike with an additional [control/10] strength.

~[Mizutane Breathing • Barrier Breathing]
A-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: *[Mizutane Breathing • Elemental breathing] [25 strength] [25 speed]
The fourth rank of Mizutane breathing allows for the user to focus their blade to block incoming blows with the flat of their blade or the back, which allows for the blade to always be sharp. The way that they do this is to redirect the flow of the attacks with their blade, changing the trajectory, allowing them to change the trajectory if their [strength] is greater than the blow’s [strength]

~[Mizutane Breathing • One with Blade]
S-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: *[Mizutane Breathing • Barrier Breathing] [30 strength] [30 speed]
The final rank of Mizutane breathing allows for the user to focus their blade to land precise blows. The Mizutane is able to redirect blows per the Barrier Breathing technique and counter attack when they are inside of their opponent’s defenses. Attacks that land this way have +3 to [strength] and are highly precise, aiming for chinks in armor, and for the soft spots of the body such as the armpits, groin, the backs of knees, necks, eyes, nose, midriff, ankles, wrists, and fingers.

Dotoken Style:
[Dotoken Style] combines Iaido style with Doton to create a style of swordsmanship unique to the Mizutane clan. Each strike is enhanced with Doton chi and applies its passive effect.

~[Iaido Dotoken • Earth’s grip]
D-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 10 Speed, *[Mizutane Breathing • Sheer focus].
Drawing the blade at a blinding speed, the user channels Doton into the back of the sword, adding [control] strength to the slash along with the Doton passive. The first time that this blade touches an organic substance, the doton spreads at [control] strength for up to 1 meter, encasing that object but not the sword for up to 2 posts.

~[Iaido Dotoken • Earth’s tremor]
C-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed, [Iaido • Death’s Gate].
Drawing upon the superlative speed of Iaido while channeling Doton into their blade, the practitioner momentarily torques the muscles in their body to draw their sword from its scabbard and deliver a blindingly fast slash before sheathing their blade. The speed of the draw combined with the channeled Doton results in a Doton blade being drawn behind the blade striking with [Control] strength and attempting to encase up to 2 meters of substance while applying the Doton passive. Properly reading this attack requires the opponent to have a Perception technique of equal or higher rank than this technique. Otherwise, they cannot accurately read the attack and will be unlikely to completely avoid the attack, if at all.

~[Iaido Suiken • Stalagmite Strike]
B-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 20 Speed, [Iaido • Phantom Funeral].
The superlative speed of Iaido combined with channeling Doton chi, momentarily torquing the muscles in their arms, the practitioner manages slashes and they spawn Doton Spikes of Dotoken that erupt after, following the trajectory of their original attack. This attack spawns a single row of Doton Stalagmites of 2 meters tall that travels up to a number of meters equal to [Control], and hits with [Control] Strength. If this technique is used in tangent with a melee attack, the weapon’s blade strikes immediately before the Doton attack is finished, potentially sealing the opponent's guard and creating an opening. This technique can be used in conjunction with other techniques.

~[Dotoken • Earth’s Patience Stance]
A-Rank Nintai Stance
Channeling Doton and assuming the proper stance, the user raises a cloak of Doton chi with [Control] strength out to a distance of [Control/5] meters. Anything of lower strength inside the cloak is pushed along the edge of the jutsu, in a swirling circular motion one meter, plus per difference in strength from the Earth around the user per post. Anything of equal strength is held back unable to advance. The user breaks the stance upon attacking creating a sudden explosion of Doton Splinters the size and shape of Senbon at [Control] strength and speed, out to [Control] meters. This applies the Doton passive.

~[Dotoken • Stone’s Repose]
S-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 35 Speed, 25 Control, [Dotoken • Earth’s Patience Stance].
Initiated from the Patience stance, the user tensions their muscles to release a super sonic attack that coalesces the chi cloak around the blade before instantly dashing forward up [Speedx2] meters and delivering a devastating slash, unleashing the stored Doton on the target. On impact the target is encased in swirling Doton chi of [Control] strength constantly pressing in from all different directions for [Control/5] posts. This also moves the victim 2 meters underground per post that they’re encased. The quasi-teleportation effect of this technique constitutes the use of one of the character's two teleportation uses per thread.
--
Suiken Style:
[Suiken Style] combines Iaido style with Suiton to create a style of swordsmanship unique to the Mizutane clan. Each strike is enhanced with Suiton chi and applies its passive effect.

~[Iaido Suiken • Water’s grip]
D-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 10 Speed, *[Mizutane Breathing • Sheer focus].
Drawing the blade at a blinding speed, the user channels Suiton into the blade, adding [control] strength to the slash along with the Suiton passive. The user may pull weapons out of the hands of their user with this passive.

~[Iaido Suitoken • Riptide]
C-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed, [Iaido • Death’s Gate].
Drawing upon the superlative speed of Iaido while channeling Suiton into their blade, the practitioner momentarily torques the muscles in their body to draw their sword from its scabbard and deliver a blindingly fast slash before sheathing their blade. The speed of the draw combined with the channeled Suiton results in a Suiton wave being drawn behind the blade striking with [Control] strength and applying Suiton passive, attempting to entrap their opponent with the Suiton after-wave. Properly reading this attack requires the opponent to have a Perception technique of equal or higher rank than this technique. Otherwise, they cannot accurately read the attack and will be unlikely to completely avoid the attack, if at all.

~[Iaido Suiken • Ebbing tide]
B-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 20 Speed, [Iaido • Phantom Funeral].
The superlative speed of Iaido combined with channeling Suiton chi, momentarily torquing the muscles in their arms, the practitioner manages slashes so fast that they spawn suiton blades of Suiken that precede the trajectory of their original attack. This attack spawns a single Suiton wave that travels up to a number of meters equal to [Control], and hits with [Control] Strength, The Suiken wave then attempts to swirl the opponent at [control] strength and speed for 1 post. If this technique is used in tangent with a melee attack, the weapon’s blade strikes immediately before the Suiton attack is finished, potentially sealing the opponent's guard and creating an opening. This technique can be used in conjunction with other techniques.

~[Suitoken • Ocean’s Depth Stance]
A-Rank Nintai Stance
Channeling Suiton and assuming the proper stance, the user raises a cloak of Suiton ci with [Control] strength out to a distance of [Control/5] meters. Anything of lower strength inside the cloak is pushed along the edge of the jutsu, in a swirling circular motion one meter, plus per difference in strength from the water around the user per post. Anything of equal strength is held back unable to advance. The user breaks the stance upon attacking creating a sudden explosion of Suiton at [Control] strength and speed, out to [Control] meters. This applies the Suiton passive.

~[Suitoken • Scilla’s Whirlpool]
S-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 35 Speed, 25 Control, [Suitoken • Ocean’s Depth Stance].
Initiated from the Ocean's Depth stance, the user tensions their muscles to release a super sonic attack that coalesces the chi cloak around the blade before instantly dashing forward up [Speedx2] meters and delivering a devastating slash, unleashing the stored Suiton on the target. On impact the target is encased in swirling Suiton chi of [Control] strength constantly swirling them in different directions for [Control/5] posts, attempting to twist limbs, neck, and other extremities off. The quasi-teleportation effect of this technique constitutes the use of one of the character's two teleportation uses per thread.
--
Katoken Style:
[Katoken Style] combines Iaido style with Katon to create a style of swordsmanship unique to the Mizutane clan. Each strike is enhanced with Katon chi and applies its passive effect.

~[Iaido Katoken • Red-Hot Forging]
D-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 10 Speed, *[Mizutane Breathing • Sheer focus].
Drawing the blade at a blinding speed, the user channels Katon into the blade, adding [control] strength to the slash along with the Katon passive.

~[Iaido Katoken • Forge’s Fire]
C-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed, [Iaido • Death’s Gate].
Drawing upon the superlative speed of Iaido while channeling Katon into their blade, the practitioner momentarily torques the muscles in their body to draw their sword from its scabbard and deliver a blindingly fast slash before sheathing their blade. The speed of the draw combined with the channeled Katon results in a Katon Blaze being drawn ahead of the blade striking with [Control] strength and applying Katon passive. Properly reading this attack requires the opponent to have a Perception technique of equal or higher rank than this technique. Otherwise, they cannot accurately read the attack and will be unlikely to completely avoid the attack, if at all.

~[Iaido Katoken • Forge’s Brand]
B-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 20 Speed, [Iaido • Phantom Funeral].
The superlative speed of Iaido combined with channeling Katon chi, momentarily torquing the muscles in their arms, the practitioner manages slashes so fast that they spawn Katon blades of Katoken that precede the trajectory of their original attack. This attack spawns a single Katon blade that travels up to a number of meters equal to [Control], and hits with [Control] Strength. If this technique is used in tangent with a melee attack, the weapon’s blade strikes immediately after the Katon attack is finished, potentially sealing the opponent's guard and creating an opening. This technique can be used in conjunction with other techniques.

~[Katoken • Forging Stance]
A-Rank Nintai Stance
Channeling Katon and assuming the proper stance, the user raises a cloak of Katon chi with [Control] strength out to a distance of [Control/5] meters. Anything of lower strength inside the cloak is pushed back to the edge plus one meter per difference in strength from the Heat around the user. Anything of equal strength is held back unable to advance. The user breaks the stance upon attacking creating a sudden explosion of Katon at [Control] strength and speed, out to [Control] meters. This applies the Katon passive.

~[Katoken • Hell’s Forge]
S-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 35 Speed, 25 Control, [Katoken • Forging Stance].
Initiated from the Forging stance, the user tensions their muscles to release a super sonic attack that coalesces the chi cloak around the blade before instantly dashing forward up [Speedx2] meters and delivering a devastating slash, unleashing the stored Raiton on the target. On impact the target is encased in swirling Katon chi of [Control] strength constantly Burning them for [Control/5] posts. The quasi-teleportation effect of this technique constitutes the use of one of the character's two teleportation uses per thread.

Mizutane Clan Revamp.

Post by Valkier » Wed Mar 22, 2023 5:59 am

Hi, I'm unfamiliar with the original clan so I don't know whether some bits are old or new (I guess it doesn't matter!) - but are you sure you want the startup restrictions to be so tight? (e.g. the old clan may have asked for affinities before those meant anything -- now they do because of the training bonus). I'm just thinking that a fresh D-rank Mizutane is rather limited in their build r.e. affinity, stats, and initial concs. That's fine if you want it that way, just making sure it's been considered!
There's some stat requirements on techniques might may not be necessary too, I know this was a common thing in the older systems so it may be beneficial to consider if they're still necessary. E.g. *[Mizutane Breathing • One with Blade] probably doesn't need the [40] stat requirements to do what it is doing as an S-rank discipline. Some B-rank techs have S-rank stat requirements, and so on.

Under Shinobi Information you mention "Blood members" must have additional requirements -- what's a blood member? Are there otherr types of member? How do they differ? etc.

I'm not a fan of the part of their history where that the secrets of ninjutsu (one of the most valuable secrets in our world and jealously hoarded by the grand 5 for over a millenia) were just casually allowed to leak from the village as the first generation Mizutane walked away. I suspect such an event would have been met with hostility (if not at the time, then at least shortly afterwards) by a hidden village. This is partly why creating PC hidden villages is such a monumental task.
I'd suggest revising it to them developing their own different, perhaps more primitive "method" of using chakra over time rather than taking Konoha's secrets. An example would be the styles that call it Ki or Chi etc. - systematically it's still chakra usage but they've developed it independently and consider it "different".

Please can you mark the clan techniques with a tilde (~) prefix? I think that's still the marker we used for clan archives.

*[Mizutane Breathing • Elemental breathing] -> By 'enhances the edge' is this increasing the strength of the strike? Just for clarity
[Dotoken • Stone’s Repose] -> Wrong text colour?
[Iaido Suiken • Ebbing tide] -> Has a typo saying it forms Katon blades instead of Suiton

Overall I really like the elemental nintai style techs, but it certainly feels like a hidden village style because of the "traditional" chakra and element/affinity usage

[Mizutane Breathing • Elemental breathing] <- This doesn't really seem like a B rank and also doesn't really feel like it necessitates the stat requirement. And could you go into some greater detail on what's actually happening that makes it hit harder?

[Mizutane Breathing • Barrier Breathing] <- This doesn't really feel like an A rank, not even a B rank. It also doesn't seem like it necessitates the stat requirement.

[Mizutane Breathing • One with Blade] <- Unnecessary stat requirement and feels like maybe more of a B rank at the highest.

For each style's S rank could you maybe give some detail on what's actually happening when the opponent is being encased by [Element] chi? I get the general gist but a swirling mass of element could mean a lot of things Are they just being attacked by an indistinct aura of chakra {chi in this case} or is it actually taking on some kind of form? Some clarity on that would both be nice to have some indication of how exactly the attack is happening and would really add some extra flair to the jutsu.
