Physical Features:
Kohaku's stature is marked by a subtle slouch, lending him an air of casual nonchalance. Standing at an average height, he possesses an unassuming presence that belies the intensity of his gaze. His complexion is fair, hinting at a youthful vitality and robust health. Despite his unremarkable physical stature, Kohaku exudes a palpable aura of darkness, an enigmatic feature of his lifetime of suffering as an Akari.
Kohaku possesses a rugged charm with his shaggy, ebony locks cascading over his ears and occasionally veiling his piercing gaze. His intense, blood-red eyes command attention amidst his striking appearance, lending an air of mystery and intensity to his demeanor. With sharp, defined features and a strong, masculine jawline, Kohaku exudes a raw, primal magnetism. Notably, his mouth boasts a wider span than the norm, accentuated by his formidable set of oversized teeth, which add to his unique allure. Whether adorned with an impressive smile or bearing an imposing snarl, Kohaku's expressions leave an indelible mark, further cementing his captivating presence.
Kohaku's attire embodies dedication to his life as a shinobi. His clothes are crafted from durable, lightweight fabrics that allow for fluid movement and unhindered agility. The ensemble consists of sleek, form-fitting steel chains around his torso, with a zip up hoody in a deep shade of midnight black overtop, providing ample freedom of movement while obscuring his silhouette. For his bottoms Kohaku wears form-fitting trousers, dyed a matching hue of ebony, and secured around his waist is a sturdy utility belt with an array of concealed compartments and pouches. Upon his feet, Kohaku wears lightweight, flexible boots, their muted-grey color blending seamlessly with his attire.
Personality:
Born on a rainy day, Kohaku is a torn soul who struggles to live in the village he is sworn to protect. Drawn to the allure of consuming other Akari, purely by the taste alone, he fights with his urges to maintain balance among his clan. With a shadow of darkness that looms over him, he clings to a flicker of hope that refuses to be extinguished. Kohaku believes he can overcome the urge to senselessly kill his clansman and serve the village as an example among the Akari people.
Raised by a single father, Kohaku grew up to become a man's man. He enjoy sports and bullshitting with the boys. Kohaku is a friendly male who takes pride in the social relationships he builds. Among his friends Kohaku is unhinged. He likes to say shocking things and get a rise out of people, but he knows where to draw the line. Despite his jester nature Kohaku is respectful and loyal. He considers his family to be his greatest asset and would never betray the Akari clan, or Iwagakure by extension. Kohaku has spent most of his life training as a ninja, he takes his duties very seriously and would never shirk off any detail, no matter how small or boring.
As friendly and joking as he is, Kohaku harbors a deep secret. He yearns for the flesh of other Akari like a rabid dog, and struggles to not kill unlawfully in order to sate his hunger. As a result he abstains from feeding on Shiin out of grief for his desires. Kohaku feels great guilt over this and a dark cloud looms over him. No matter how cheerful he is, it's clear that something weighs on Kohaku's mind. Despite falling to his urges Kohaku strictly obeys the law like a dog that fears the paper. He is careful to always remain transparent and pledges his allegiance to the Tsuchikage.
When he is not obsessing over his hunger, or making light of a situation, Kohaku spends his time reading. He had always been a book worm and enjoys catching up on novels that he hasn't finished. He reads at least twenty books at a time but somehow manages to keep it all together. His favorite genre is romance and Kohaku loves the drama. He is a mature young man, but he can't help to blush when he reads some of the spicy details. Kohaku is a virgin and has never kissed a woman, he is incredibly shy around them and struggles to get his words out. Deep down Kohaku is a lover.
With a running list of jokes to tell Kohaku never runs out of things to say. He is quite clever in how he maneuvers conversation and to say that he stays one step ahead is an understatement. Kohaku is a methodical thinker who puts a lot of effort into strategy when he can. He knows that his intelligence is one of his strengths but doesn't overplay it, humble by nature. Kohaku still sometimes overestimates his knowledge of situations and has to depend on good old fashioned hard work to get him out of sticky situations. Nevertheless Kohaku manages to get the job done and has a wonderful track record with the Tsuchikage's Office.
Sometimes Kohaku falls into periods of extreme depression. He struggles to feed himself, and starves himself of vital social situations. The pain of his hunger too often sets in, and in an attempt to distance himself from the clan, Kohaku hides away in his room. During these periods he wont even work. When the tears dry up he gets back to his duties, but it's clear to anyone that knows him something is wrong with the young man. Kohaku has yet to admit he needs the Shiin's of other people, he still has a lot of growing to do.
- Favorite Shiin to Eat: To be Determined

- Fears: Like many Akari, Kohaku fears falling in battle to a non-clansman. He would roll over in his grave if he were to shame his father's line in such a way.

ShindenShow
*[Shinden • Swaying Peltandra]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The use of larger swords and hafted weapons often makes close-quarters maneuvering of the practitioner's weapon more difficult. By placing one hand on the pommel/butt of the hilt or low section of the weapon's haft, the user is able to more easily maneuver, twist, slide, and flip their weapon in close quarters to cover a wider range of offensive and defensive options, using the second hand to give full power to their attacks and techniques. This Discipline represents the practitioner's mastery of this basic concept, allowing them to lessen the impact of their weapon's natural blind spots and weaknesses.
*[Shinden • Swaying Cattail]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite(s): 8 Strength.
A practitioner of Shinden must be able to control their weapon as easily as their own breath. This Discipline represents the practitioner's capacity to both change the orientation of their weapon to cover a different part of their body while spinning said weapon and to immediately change the direction said weapon is spinning without loss of defensive or offensive momentum.
*[Shinden • Stream Splitting]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
A simple setup technique, the practitioner quickly and continuously spins their weapon in their hands, capable of switching their weapon between each hand if they wish. This technique can serve as a defense against projectiles and attacks, but its primary purpose is to set up the practitioner for their next attack or technique. Any attack or technique used after the practitioner uses this technique will be instantly launched at the practitioner's maximum Strength and Speed.
*[Shinden • Branch Cleaver]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
One of Shinden's most basic offensive techniques, the practitioner raises their weapon over their head, using gravity and inertia to add momentum to their next attack. The practitioner then launches a ferocious two-handed swing in any single direction. The practitioner executes the cut in a circular motion, allowing them to quickly bring the weapon back to guard against a potential counterattack.
*[Shinden • Hiding Under Mangroves]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Designed to catch unsuspecting foes by surprise, the practitioner can use this technique either as an offensive technique or as a counterattack. Using part of their weapon's hilt or guard (i.e. the pommel/butt of a sword's hilt), the practitioner bashes the opponent's head or face with the handle of their weapon before coming down with a swing in the opposite direction of the first strike. Landing the first blow makes it more likely that the second attack will find purchase on the opening created by the first attack of this technique. If the practitioner's Strength is 5 higher than the opponent's Endurance, this technique will cause immediate localized inflammation and hairline fractures on the point of impact.
*[Shinden • Grass Cutter]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 8 Strength, 8 Speed.
A simple yet devastating technique, the practitioner executes a powerful thrust towards the opponent. At the end of the thrust, or just as the blade is making contact with the opponent if it hits, the practitioner violently rotates the blade in any single direction and finishes the technique with a slash in the direction the sword was twisted. This additional rotation and slash at the end can further damage opponents or catch an opponent that has evaded the original thrust by strafing to either side, ducking, or jumping.
*[Shinden • Royal Fern]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 8 Strength, 8 Speed.
Using Shinden's superlative strength to bend the earth to their will, the practitioner spins their weapon and strikes the ground with a powerful blow, breaking the ground beneath them. Depending on the terrain, slabs of earth, rock, and stone will be uplifted where the practitioner struck, providing a temporary barrier against projectiles and attacks. These slabs of earth have a Strength equal to the practitioner's Strength, but they only remain for three posts.

Birth of a LegendShow
When Kohaku was born it was still early in the morning, and the sun had just risen on a rainy day. Screams of pain could be heard throughout the Akari hospital. Muchen, Kohaku's mother, was the one screaming out in pain giving birth to her firstborn, and only, son. As she gave the painful, final push and Kohaku exited his mother, the young mother's heart began racing with fear. The birth of her son kicked her maternal instincts into overdrive and she became wrought with fear for her baby. Muchen began convulsing in her hospital bed, heart heart freezing with terror, and then promptly died before the doctor had the chance to cut the cord. It was terribly sad for everyone in the room, including Kohaku's father. Tien rushed to his wife's side and began performing Iijutsu trying to save the Akari woman, but it was to no avail. Muchen was dead.
Kohaku's father, Tien, was an accomplished medic shinobi for Iwagakure. He was a jounin and had some of the best medical experience available to a trooper in the military. He was heartbroken he couldn't save his wife and vowed to protect their son. Muchen was also a ninja, a chuunin, and she had considerable talent in the field of Kenjutsu, in fact Muchen was an instructor for advanced students in the academy. The whole village was hurt by her death, but Tien was determined to make their son worthy of the loss of his wife.
Upon his birth the clan ushered the infant into a special examination room. It was a dark room, lit up by a burning cauldron hanging from the ceiling. The walls were painted black and there was a red altar for the babe to sit up on. Still crying, Tien put the baby on the altar for the clan to conduct their examination of his Shiin. After some poking and prodding it was determined that Kohaku had a Phasmashiin. The clan was quite impressed with the boy, his parents both only born with Temershiins. They didn't find any hint of the hidden Shiin inside Kohaku's body, the Original Shiin. Nevertheless Kohaku was heralded in as a warrior. With tears Kohaku's father gave him the name Kohaku after the amber that preserves fossils. He wanted Kohaku to remember that his mother's love was timeless, and that power was eternal, like his name.

The Acadamy YearsShow
Growing up Kohaku was crippled in some ways by only having a single father. Tien was terribly heartbroken over losing his wife and never remarried. He did his best to raise Kohaku and the young boy grew up fine. He learned to walk and talk earlier than most infants. Kohaku was exceedingly intelligent and was always impressing his father. By the time the boy was learning to read it was obvious that Tien would need to begin teaching the boy about Iwagakure. Tien gave his boy the kinds of book a father of the village would. They were short little informative books that didn't seem like much to Kohaku at the time, he was barely conscious, but the words would stick with him for his entire life. Kohaku would certainly make a fine ninja and his father was there to make sure of it.
When Kohaku was five years old his father began instructing him on shinobi matters. Formations, tactics and even basic theories on chakra control were all the two talked about for two years, and eventually Kohaku aas admitted to the third academy in Iwagakure. He had underwent an aptitude test and proved to have exceptional skill in Taijutsu. The third academy had trainers that would help Kohaku round out his skills and become a Kenjutsu Specialist. It would be the first place of his official training as a ninja for Iwagakure, and the very same place his mother had instructed students in her life.
At the academy Kohaku did amazingly well. The boy had soaked up everything his father had taught him and with favor of his teachers, he outshined most of the students in his class. Where some kids struggled to perform a Clone Jutsu, Kohaku had achieved proficiency in two elemental nature transformations. Kohaku was a real life prodigy and he graduated the academy when he was just 10 years old.

The Original ShiinShow
After becoming a Genin Kohaku was put on the fast track to perform in the Akari arena. Tien, Kohaku's father, had retired from the military and worked in the arena as a medic. His father was a gambler and got his son involved in a high stakes match for his first bout. Kohaku's old man loved him, but he loved money just as much and Tien was willing to bet his sons life on it. After all, Kohaku was a remarkably talented student. He possessed great skill with his Shiin, and Kohaku possessed a mighty Shiin compared to most Akari his age. Kohaku's Phasmashiin had worked up quite a reputation among the clan, for better or worse, and the match Tien prepared for his son was slated to be one of the top matches of the year.
Going into the match Kohaku felt confident. He was focused on his opponent. Kohaku was excited to devour a Shiin, but more than that he was eager to defend his life. Kohaku was a warrior by the highest standard. His skill with his phasmashiin was remarkable and Kohaku employed excellent ninja tactics in battle. The young boy was slated to be the Akari clan's next prodigal son. Kohaku had a lot to live up to, and that meant he had a lot of haters. Leading up to the match his opponent, Masaru, talked a lot of smack about Kohaku. He wanted to feast on Kohaku's Shiin, and the only thing stopping him was Kohaku's will to live. It would take more than a warrior to prevail in this fight, and Kohaku knew it.
Masaru was four years older than Kohaku, and had more than his fair share of experience. Masaru possessed a Lacrishiin and it was known as being the strongest defense among Genin that fought in the arena. Besides his wealth of experience, Masaru was also highly skilled with Raiton jutsu. It would be a tough fight for Kohaku but he believed in himself and as he sat in the lounge, waiting to be called for his fight, Kohaku shook with excitement. Deep down the boy loved to fight. Masaru was certain to be just a mark on Kohaku's belt.
Entering the arena Kohaku was surprised by how dim the lighting was. The arena was lit up by giant hanging cauldrons, and the long shadows cast down below were certainly ominous. The arena looked to be the home of cannibalism and death. In a way Kohaku was scared yet proud. He saw all the people who had bet on him sheering and the fire in his soul were struck with passion. From across the way he could see Masaru. Kohaku choked down his fear and called out to him, "You will be honored." The young genin's both shared a bow, and the battle was on.
Masaru came out flying with a series of handseals followed by a bolt of lightning, but Kohaku was prepared. He had already equipped his phasmashiin and the young Genin was channeling chakra ahead of Masaru. He knew the elder Genin would attack him from a range, and Kohaku had mastered just the jutsu for it. Kohaku snapped his fingers together and diamonds began forming in the ground before him. The diamond created a wall in front of Kohaku that protected him from the lightning, and furthermore it shot the lightning back as it was destroyed. Kohaku began flanking his opponent while swinging his sword in circles around him.
At full speed Kohaku lunged downward at Masaru with his phasmashiin, aiming to slice the genin cleanly in half. To Kohaku's surprise he sliced into a rock. Masaru had prepared a substitution jutsu and was standing right behind Kohaku with his lacrishiin formed. Kohaku wasn't one to be slow on delivery and torqued his body on his heel and spun around. The Phasmashiin collided with Masaru and sent him flying, but unfortunately for Kohaku he only dented the genin's armor. It would take more than that to kill Masaru.
The elder Genin stood up and began weaving together handseals, but Kohaku was a head of him. The ten year old dashed into Masaru, knocking him onto the ground. Kohaku was on top of him and he had his Phasmashiin in his hand. Kohaku peaned it over the teenagers exposed neck and without a second thought, lopped Masaru's head clean off.
With the boy dead Kohaku had just one thing on his mind. He was to eat the lacrishiin that was now hanging off Masaru's flesh. Kohaku grabbed it with his hand and viciously yanked at it. The flesh came off cleanly and Kohaku began devouring it. As the Shiin slid down his throat Kohaku became engorged with power. The consumption of a Shiin activated the dormant Soul Chakra in his body, and as the Shiin slid into Kohaku's stomach the 8th chakra pool began working it's magic. The Soul Chakra Pool began harvesting data from the lacrishiin and metabolizing it to be compatible with Kohaku's soul. As that happened a dormant power in Kohaku's body awoke for the first time.
Attached to Kohaku's eighth chakra pool was a unique Shiin rarely seen by the Akari. This eighth Shiin was known as the Kiroshiin. As Kohaku's body began to adjust to the soul data that was assimilating with him, the Kiroshin began manifesting for the first time. Kohaku's left arm grew a sinuous cord around it, and the sinew that comprised it formed sharp bone blades around it. Still sitting atop Masaru's body, eating the boys brains, Kohaku was thoroughly surprised to see the Kiroshiin. He had never heard of such a thing.
Kohaku stopped feasting on Masaru and simply walked away from the scene. He was curious what was going on with his left arm, and went into the lounge where he was waiting before to check it out. Unfortunately for Kohaku someone was waiting to congratulate him on his victory. The woman, a news reporter, was quite shocked to see the unusual Shiin on Kohaku's arm. He put it away instinctively, scared to explain what had just happened, and acted like nothing had happened. The news reporter didn't say anything to Kohaku about his arm, but he knew something would come of the experience.

Discovering the LightShow
It was around this time Kohaku fell into a great sadness. He kept his rare Shiin secret, and he felt like a freak. Ever since feasting on Masaru's Shiin, Kohaku couldn't get the idea out of his mind. It was so revitalizing that Kohaku had a deep seated obsession with devouring Shiin growing inside of him. He didn't understand the desire, but his soul was yearning for more spiritual power from the Akari Shiin. Out of fear for himself and his clan, he began isolating himself and studying the Shiin more than ever, hoping to learn about his rare shiin and the strange hunger that would be fall him. He yearned to know what exactly was going on with his body. He didn't know it yet but his adventure was just beginning.
Despite his depression Kohaku maintained his work for the village, save for real bad episodes of hunger for others Shiin. In those cases he locked himself in his room, hiding from the world until he felt sane again. He trained hard despite these setbacks, and proved to be the genius everyone touted him up to be, but deep down Kohaku was suffering. He couldn't face his red eyes in the mirror and with that first Shiin, it had only just begun. Kohaku was on a dark road, but the light was in sight if only he could keep his head up.
