Genkouyoushi, Ryuu

General Information Age: 21
Gender: Male
Height: 5’9
Weight: 155

Physical Features:
  • Face/head: Ryuu shares his clan’s extremely pale skin, often giving him a somewhat ill look. He has a pointed nose, and dark, blue eyes. Ryuu’s ears are a bit large compared to the rest of his body. He also has a bit of an oddly shaped head, which extends in the back to be wider than in the front. Ryuu covers this with his hair, which is a solid dark blue color. He wears it medium length, so that it falls over his forehead in the front, but not into his line of sight.
  • Body: Ryuu is a very thin person, and he is often told he is too thin. With the weakness of the bodies of his clan’s members, he rarely practices his taijutsu anymore, as he relies on his ninjutsu. As such, his body is not particularly bulky, although his regulate speed trainings keep him fit. On the palm of both of his hands, Ryuu has identical tattoos of his clan’s crest. It is from these tattoos that he can summon paper for his jutsu.
  • Notable Features: Ryuu’s blue hair is relatively unique. While it is dark blue, it is not so dark that it could be mistaken for black. It has no green tint, and so is a full blue color.
Clothing/Accessories: As the weather in Iwagakure is not always the warmest, Ryuu usually wears a coat. This coat is dark blue, although a slightly more diluted, lighter blue than his hair. It has a hood that he often chooses to keep up, and tan strips that stretch from his armpits down to his torso. Under this, Ryuu wears a black T-shirt. He also wears somewhat baggy black sweatpants. He wears a bag on his back, held to him by a strap that stretches from his right thy across his body to his right shoulder. This pack is not the size of a full backpack, but is rather slightly larger than the pouches many ninja wear around their waists. This pack can be adjusted to be tied around his waist as well, so as to look like a normal pouch.

Picture: Picture

Personality:
  • General: Ryuu definitely can act very selfishly. He does tend to think about himself before others in the immediate term, but with reflection he tends to temper his conceited impulses. Still, he is a friendly person, and has no problem making a lot of friends. He has always had a unique way of dealing with people; ever since he was a child, he reached out in a different way. As a child, he was very happy, and always wanting to meet with his friends and play games. He even found school work fun when others thought it was boring. Ever since one of his closest friends was killed in front of them, Ryuu is a bit different. He rarely shows his happiness as strongly as he had before, and has retreated from reaching out to new people to a large extent. Still, he is very close with his long-time friends, and holds them in high esteem. Ryuu is very intelligent and logical, but he is not as smart as he thinks he is.
  • Hopes/Dreams: Ryuu’s dream is to become Tsuchikage. He loves his village almost more than anything else. He has had the chance to see much of Rock Country, and he prefers the village to anywhere else he’s been. He wants to protect his friends and family, but more importantly he wants to be in charge of protecting his friends and family. He feels as though leaving the ruling of the village to others is dangerous, and decided to try to fix as many problems as he could.
  • Fears: Losing his loved ones is a strong fear for Ryuu, perpetuated by one of his closest friends dying in front of him. This event actually made Ryuu fear death more than most, especially for himself, which perpetuates his selfish instincts. Because of his profession, he deals with this conflict very carefully, and is aware that his fear is potentially damaging to his actions as a shinobi.
  • Combat Mentality: Ryuu is very good at thinking on his feet, and that mixed with his intelligence leads to a very planned, cautious battle strategy. He rarely engages a powerful enemy alone, and if he does, he usually uses clones and paper defenses first. He is aware of his lack of taijutsu skills, as well as a lack of giant elemental ninjutsu attacks, and so usually attacks in short bursts intended to defeat the enemy before they can retaliate. Traps are often a large part of his battle strategy.

Concentrations
Ninjutsu
Ninjutsu:Advanced Channeling:
Advanced Channeling
This user has superb chakra control, and has learned to perform jutsu by channeling, without the use of hand seals. The user can channel any ninjutsu that is designed to be channel, and there are no specified parameters in which a jutsu must fall to be channeled by this method. To get this concentration the user must be a Ninjutsu Specialist, and have picked Control as one of their specialized stats.
Origami:
Origami [Paper Folding]

Not the most ingenious name for a bloodline. It is an affinity the clan members share with paper.
Less of a element and more like a specialty, the members of the Genkouyoushi Clan are able to manipulate paper created specifically by their clan in ways that normal ninja are not able. Using this abnormal affinity with the paper, they are able to increase or decrease the size of their controlled paper on a whim.
Sensory:
Sensor
Sensors are shinobi who are able to activate a sixth sense which can locate and read chakra sources. Sensory is advantageous as it allows shinobi to perceive without using any of their conventional senses, which can easily be deceived. Sensors are able to collect a lot of information through the interpretation of this sixth sense.
Takes a single ninjutsu concentration
Doton:
Doton Affinity
A character with this concentration is able to utilize Doton, and can make and use any custom or archived jutsu that require the doton affinity. Doton has a passive enduring effect.
Passive (Enduring)Show
Doton has a passive effect of Endurance, which means that it's power is retained throughout the entirety of the jutsu. All of a single doton jutsu retains the strength of the jutsu, even after the jutsu has been destroyed, and unlike other jutsu, doton does not fade when destroyed. This means that if a doton barrier with 25 strength is cut in half and falls to the ground, a part of that barrier could be picked up and carried as a hand held shield which would still have 25 strength, despite being a fractured part of a jutsu. This creates incredibly potent defenses, making doton a popular affinity among defensive fighters.
Taijutsu
Acrobatics:
The fundamental skill of [Acrobatics] includes the user’s ability to contort their body into unfamiliar positions in order to avoid attacks, as well as the user’s ability to fall safely and perform Ukemi and other feats of gymnastics. This facilitates their use of related Taijutsu.
Perception:
The fundamental skill of [Perception] describes the user’s practiced methods of more keenly focussing their senses for a short time. This facilitates their use of related Taijutsu.

Ninja Art: Paper Hat
E-Ranked Ninjutsu
After preforming several handseals, a piece of Hakushiijin within 5 meters is folded into the shape of a hat. I has no real protective qualities, so it is useless in a battle. Rather, it is used for children to play with. The hat will drop to the ground if not grabbed by the user in the post it is created.

~Ninja Art: Paper Beast
D-ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the needed handseals a designated piece of Hakushiijin within 10 meters folds into the form of a tiger with the following stats:
  • Taijutsu:3
  • Stam:3
  • Strength:3
  • Speed:3
~Ninja Art: Paper Shuriken
D-ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the needed hand seals a designated piece of Hakushiijin within 10 meters folds into shuriken that it is the same size and shape of a normal one. The shuriken flies at the opponent with speeds equal to the user's control with a maximum of six and hits with a strength of four. It's as sharp as a normal shuriken but can easily be destroyed by Katon. The shuriken cannot exceed 10 meters.

~Ninja Art: Color
D-ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the correct handseals, the clan member is able to alter the color of their paper to match what its touching, allowing it to essentially be hidden. They can only alter the colors of Hakushiijin within 15 meters of their body.

~Sealing: Paper Summoning
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
This is a seal known only to the Genkouyoushi clan members. Through the use of kai, the user is able to summon up to 200 sheets of Hakushiijin at a time. This is taken from the clan forest.

~Ninja Art: Disperse
C-ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: ~Ninja Art: Scattered Sheets
Using a single hand sign, Genkouyoushi clan members are able to separate and scatter any Hakushiijin within 20 meters of their body in a totally random manner. This is commonly used to dispel already active techniques, or to set up another attack.

~Ninja Art: Living Scroll
C-ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: A scroll/scrolls made with Hakushiijin
Using a single hand seal, the ninja is capable of unrolling and using scrolls made out of Hakushiijin at a distance of 15 meters away. These scrolls work with all Paper related jutsu and will move according to whatever jutsu is used after.

Ninja Art: Disappear
C-ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the needed handseals a designated pieces of Hakushiijin within 10 meters folds surrounds the user. This paper will then change its look to match its background, allowing the user to hide. The paper will appear to be of different color and texture, making this hiding technique quite effective. It does not cover any sounds the user makes, nor does it hide their chakra from sensory techniques. From the inside, the paper is translucent, allowing the user the user to see figures, but not fine details like faces. It does not hinder their hearing. Because the paper forms an amorphous blob and is not attached to the user's skin, they cannot move without leaving the cover the paper provides. It cannot be larger than 5 feet x 5 feet, and must share a side with whatever it is blending in with.

Ninja Art: Shuriken Storm
C-ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the needed hand seals, several designated pieces of Hakushiijin within 10 meters fold into five shuriken that it are the same size and shape of normal ones. The shuriken fly at the opponent, all at the same time, with speeds equal to the user's control with a maximum of 14 and hits with a strength of 6. They’re as sharp as a normal shuriken but can easily be destroyed by Katon. The shuriken cannot exceed 20 meters.

~Ninja Art: Cling
C-ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: ~Paper Folding: Second Fold
After performing the needed handseals, the ninja will launch multiple sheets of their clans paper at a stationary target, or area within 15 meters of their body. The paper moves with speeds equal to their control with a maximum of 8. This paper will completely cover that target or area with numerous sheets of paper. After it has been applied, the paper is able to remain in place with no drain on the user’s chakra for five posts. This cannot be used on living creatures.
(There is no jutsu “Paper Folding: Second Fold”)

Ninja Art: Paper Whirlpool Defense
B-Ranked Ninjutsu
After completing the hand seals, the user holds the final one. The Hakushiijin within 10 meters begins to circulate around the user, forming a circle with a diameter of one meter. These papers form this moving shield at a speed of 20. The papers do not connect end to end, leaving many holes in the defense, through which the user and the opponents can see. Whenever a projectile is thrown, the shield will block it. If a projectile is blocked, the sheet that blocked the attack will wrap around it before dropping harmlessly to the ground. Because of this, the shield can only block projectiles that are the size of a katana or smaller. The shield lasts for three posts unless dispelled, and it will not follow the user if the user leaves the original circle.

~Ninja Art: Paper Skin
B-ranked Ninjutsu
By performing the needed handseals, the user can cause multiple pieces of paper within 20 meters to create a layer of paper around their body or the body of another person. The paper will move to the person with speeds of equal to the user's control with a maximum of five. This layer of paper is then reinforced by the user's chakra causing it to lessen the damage, by 15, caused from ninjutsu and taijutsu. The paper is weak to katon and may burn if caught on fire.

~ Ninja Art: Paper Clothes
B-ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: ~Ninja Art: Paper Skin
A variation on the paper skin technique. This skill allows the ninja to create clothing that, rather than a single layer like the paper skin technique, are made of many layers. The user will perform the needed hand seals and then fold and create clothing out of the clan's special paper. It will move to their person with speeds eqaul to the user's control with a maximum of 2. The clothing created by this technique is able to lessen the damage caused by ninjutsu and taijutsu by 18 strength. This paper is able to catch fire and is maintained until destroyed.

~Ninja Art: Flutterspy
B-ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the needed hand seals, the user can fashion up a dozen small butterflies from their paper. These strange creatures are able to scout out an area of up to 50 meters away and then return to the caster of the technique and relay basic information, such as how many people are in an area and if there are traps surrounding the area. While the butterflies are away from the creator, the user cannot see anything that the butterflies see or hear what they hear. It is only when they have returned to the user that they are able to relay the information. Each butterfly moves with speeds of 20 each.

Ninja Art: Shuriken Trap
B-ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the needed hand seals, several designated pieces of Hakushiijin within 30 meters fold into five shuriken that are the same size and shape of normal ones. The shuriken fly at the opponent, all at the same time, with speeds equal to the user's control with a maximum of 25 and hits with a strength of 15. They’re as sharp as a normal shuriken but can easily be destroyed by Katon. The benefit of this technique is the distance over which the user can create shuriken; a range of 30 meters allows the user to attack their opponent from different angles. The shuriken themselves can be thrown up to 30 meters as well.

Sealing: Bulk Paper Summoning
B-ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisites: Sealing: Paper Summoning
This is a seal known only to the Genkouyoushi clan members. Through the use of kai, the user is able to summon up to 2,000 sheets of Hakushiijin at a time. This is taken from the clan forest.

Paper Ignite: Exploding Bird
B-Ranked Ninjutsu
After forming the requisite hand seals, a sheet of Hakushiijin within 10 meters of the user will fold into a small, bird shape. It will immediately fly in a single direction at a speed of 20 reaching a maximum distance of 30 meters. Hitting any target, or through the use of kai, it will explode with the force of a B-Rank explosion.

Ninja Art: Paper Pinwheel
B-Ranked Ninjutsu
After forming the necessary hand seals, the user will extend their arms. Several sheets of Hakushiijin within ten meters of the user will rush into their hands, forming a massive pinwheel. The handle of the pinwheel extends to four feet (1.2 meters). The pinwheel itself has four sharp points that just out of the center, matching the shape of a pinwheel. From the center of the head of the pinwheel to any of the four sharp points is about 1 foot (.3 meters)These spikes will not move like normal pinwheels would, however. The pinwheel itself is fairly sturdy with a strength of 20 and lasts for six posts.

~Ninja Art: Razor Confetti
A-ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the required hand seals the user shreds a designated piece of Hakushiijin within 10 meters into a mass of tiny confetti-like pieces before launching it at the target. The mass cuts with a strength of 20 and moves with a speed of 20

Ninja Art: Advanced Paper Clone
A-Ranked Ninjutsu
After preforming the needed handseals, a designated piece of Hakushiijin within 10 meters transforms into a clone in the likeness of the user. The clone is vulnerable to katon. It can use up to B-Rank Oragami Ninjutsu that the user knows and has the following stats:
  • Taijutsu:10
  • Stam:10
  • Strength:5
  • Speed:20
Ninja Art: Paper Disguise
A-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: Ninja Art: Paper Skin
This jutsu is a more advanced version of the Ninja Art: Paper Skin technique. Once this paper has attached, the user can change the paper’s color to appear to be another person they have seen. They cannot change their shape and so must remain in humanoid form. While in this form, the user suffers a -3 reduction to their stamina stat. The paper is weak to katon and may burn if caught on fire.

Shuriken Tempest
A-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisites: 30 Ninjutsu, 25 Control
After performing the needed hand seals, several designated pieces of Hakushiijin within 10 meters fold into five shuriken that it are the same size and shape of normal ones. The user has control of each of these five, and can fire them off individually. They will move at a speed of 32 and strike with a strength of 12, reaching a maximum distance of 30 meters away from the user. During their flight, the user can change the direction of each of these shuriken twice, as much as a u-turn for each. This takes very precise control, forcing the user to remain still while using the jutsu. The shuriken hover around the user for five posts before disappearing if not used.

Ninja Art: Paper Dome Defense
A-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisites: 34 Ninjutsu
After completing the necessary hand seals, the user of this technique is surrounded by selected Hakushijin within 10 meters of himself. These papers form a defensive dome with a radius of one and a half meters at a speed of 34. This dome is extremely sturdy, and it will be impenetrable to any attacks with a strength of 34 or less.

Ninja Art: Paper Castle
A-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisites: Ninja Art: Disappear, 500 pieces of Hakushiijin
This jutsu is a for advanced version if the Ninja Art: Disappear. After forming the necessary handseals, designated Hakushiijin within 10 meters begin to surround the user. It will form a structure up to a size of 3x3x3 meters. This paper structure can then change its look to match a building, or natural structure. The final size of the structure cannot reach further than three meters from the user. For example, the user could manipulate the paper to form in the shape of a tree, and then change the look of the paper to match a tree’s color and texture, so long as no leaf on the tree was more than 3 meters away from the user. To anyone inside the structure, the paper appears translucent, allowing them to see figures, but not finer details like faces. This structure does not change what it feels like, and anyone who touches the structure will notice that it feels like paper. The structure will break apart if attacked with a strength of 3 or greater.

~Paper Folding: Master’s Beast]
S-ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the needed handseals a designated piece of Hakushiijin within 10 meters folds into the form of a 2 meter tall Mantis with the following stats:
  • Taijutsu:35
  • Stam:10
  • Strength:35
  • Speed:35
Ninja Art: Grand Paper Illusion
S-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisites: Ninja Art: Paper Disguise
This technique is the most advanced use of Oragami covering ninjutsu. After formed the neaded handseals, sheets of Hakushiijin within 10 meters cover the user or another person. These papers change color and texture to project images from all around them changing so quickly that the person inside the papers appears to be invisible. While in this form, the user suffers a -5 reduction to their stamina stat. Also, if the user moves with a speed faster than 20, they will become translucent instead of transparent, making them visible as a blur.

Ninja Art: The Seventh Fold, Shuriken Barrage
S-Ranked Ninjutsu
Using many pieces of Hakushiijin within 20 meters, this jutsu forms 10 paper shuriken the size of real shuriken. These shuriken, as they are made from multiple pieces of Hakushiijin folded very tightly, are incredibly strong, capable of cutting through barriers with a strength of 30 or less and continuing on their path. They strike at a strength of 30 and move at a speed of 40. All these shuriken fire at the same time. They can travel up to 30 meters. Despite their strength, these shuriken are still weak to katon.
SensoryShow
Jutsu:
*[Sensory Style • Beyond Senses]
C-Rank Ninjutsu
Prerequisites: Ninjutsu/Control/Instinct stats of 10
This sensor jutsu is used by shinobi to feel chakra sources within a radius of 25 yards. While this jutsu is fairly helpful in sensing chakra, it is unable to actually pinpoint specific chakras outside of 10 feet. This only gives the Shinobi an idea of how many entities with chakra are present in their general area.

*[Sensory Style • Evaluation]
C-rank Ninjutsu
Prerequisites: Beyond Senses
The sensor will activate their sensory jutsu, and then do an additional set of hand seals. By doing so, the user will be able to compare the “strength” of each source of chakra they are able to sense to each other. The “strength” of the individual is determined by the average of each person’s Stamina, Control and Strength stats. The user can determine who has more chakra strength than others, allowing them to pick out possible risks. This technique is not very reliable as a determining factor, however.

*[Sensory Style • Flare]
C-rank Ninjutsu
Prerequisites: Beyond Senses
The sensor will activate their sensory jutsu, and then do a second set of hand seals. For the next 5 posts, any time anyone within the range of their sensory activates a jutsu, the user will see their chakra “flare” momentarily. While they won’t know anything about the jutsu, it will give them a better idea of the battle field.

*[Sensory Style • Broad Sense]
B-Rank Ninjutsu
Prerequisites: *[Beyond Senses], Ninjutsu/Control/Instinct stats of 20
This jutsu is an extension of [Beyond Senses]. With this jutsu initiated, a sensor can focus on individual chakra signatures to get a precise idea of where their opponents are at up to 25 meters. A general sense of the direction and number of chakra sources can be determined at about 50 meters. It should be noted that this jutsu requires intense concentration, often making the user shut their eyes so they can focus on the jutsu solely. Even with high levels of Chakra Control and Instinct, this jutsu can be mentally taxing as it requires the user to sort through the individual chakra sources in the sensor’s range.
DotonShow
jutsu:
*Doton • Dirt Cloud
D-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will form a 1 meter diameter ball of loose dirt in front of them, launching it off up to 10 meters away at a strength of 4 and speed of 6. Upon impact the ball of loose dirt breaks apart forming a vision-impairing cloud of dirt with a 3 meter radius.

*Doton • Earthen Ninja Tools
D-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will form a set of up to 10 basic projectiles, such as kunai, shuriken, or senbon, in their hand. These tools have a strength of 5

*Doton • Landmine
C-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will tap their foot on the ground charging a 2 meter radius around their foot with explosive chakra. This is armed at a speed of 10. For the next three posts if anyone steps on that area it will explode with a force equal to a standard C-Rank explosion.

KarakorunShow
Quote:
Karakorun Style

Karakorun is a fighting style used by the Tenrai who inhabit the steppes of Rock Country. The Tenrai had little use for attacking with a heavy blow, as they’re opponents were generally other lightly armored soldiers. Made to fight against people wearing light armor, the style heavily relies on instinct and speed to dodge attacks, only striking after finding a week point in the opponent’s movements. This style is not well known to those outside of the steppes, even to people in other areas of Rock Country.
  • Requires:Perception and Acrobatics
jutsu:
Karakorun Style • Gallop
D-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
This stance was created by horsemen in the even that they fell off their horse. The user will begin this stance while running, lowering their shoulders and turning their legs slightly inward. This prepares the user for dodges more easily, providing torque in the legs and maneuverability in the shoulders.

Karakorun Style • Mane Dance
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user of this technique has practiced avoiding attacks to his upper body in close quarters. Rather than making large movements to dodge attacks, the user of this technique simply uses their waist to bend and turn out of the way. This allows the user to remain in close quarters with their opponents even as they are attacked, preparing them for a counter attack. The user will be able to dodge attacks so long as their (speed+instinct)/2 is greater than the speed of the attack.

History
Historical AccountsShow

Ryuu was born to a good family. As a member of the Genkouyoushi Clan, he was given more opportunities than most. Both of his parents were shinobi. His father was a Chunin, and his mother, a Special Jonin. Together, they attempted to raise their son with every opportunity to become a shinobi. While he wasn’t particularly strong, he showed his intelligence early on, and his parents supported his curiosity by provided shinobi related information.

When Ryuu was three years old, he was with his father in the market. Someone attacked one of the shop keepers, and Ryuu’s father rushed in to help. He told Ryuu to stay put as he left his son for the moment. Ryuu, ever the explorer, did not listen. He began wondering around the market on his own. He quickly realized that he was lost, unable to find his father. Luckily, he was found by a ninja walking the streets. This Genin was Ayako Tadane. She was only 16 years old, but she took it upon herself to return Ryuu to his family. Ryuu’s family was very thankful, but Ryuu became very enamored with Ayako. She began to meet with Ryuu to watch him when his parents were away. They became very close, and as Ryuu grew up, he began working on ninja skills with Ayako. She helped him advance more quickly, and when he entered the Academy, he was already ahead of the class.

Ryuu remained at the top his class. He had a great mind for dealing with math problems as well as memorizing movements, dates, and instructions. He was, however, weak in hand-to-hand combat. Genkouyoushi clan members were never known for their taijutsu skills, but Ryuu was particularly bad. Once the Clan discovered this, they set up a meeting for him and someone to “train” him. This boy, Hiroki Genkouyoushi, was three years older than him. The “training” was simply Hiroki beating on Ryuu every day after the Academy. When his parents realized the bruises, Ryuu lied about them. He kept his secret training hidden, still believing it was for his own benefit, and not a punishment for embarrassing the clan.

Meanwhile, at the Academy, Ryuu made many friends. He became interwoven with many of his class mates, but he made two friends that were much closer than the rest. Rokuro Shoshiki and Kota Mirami. All three boys became inseparable. As none of the three were particularly strong or bulky, remaining together protected them from bullies, which allowed them remain un-harassed and respectable. The group did often taunt some of the larger kids in their class, particularly some of the older ones. This boosted Ryuu’s ego significantly, and he often got carried away. It didn’t help that he appeared to be in charge of his little clique. One day, when Ryuu was 8, he mocked a boy named Maru, who was a year older than him. The boy caught him after school, when Ryuu was alone on the way home. Ryuu refused to fight, and after taking a few punches, he escaped. Ryuu wasn’t just obnoxious to other children, but also to his teachers. He had a habit of talking back, which was extremely dangerous in a school like the Academy. Ryuu didn’t know this at the time, but he was getting more slack than some of the other children due to the fact that he was from the Genkouyoushi clan, and because he was intelligent, and his teachers liked him.

When he turned ten, he had his last physical training with Hiroki Genkouyoushi. Hiroki, now 13, had realized he was just being used to punish his young cousin, and decided himself that he would no longer practice his taijutsu on Ryuu. Instead, Hiroki began teaching Ryuu ninjutsu. Ryuu quickly proved to be extremely proficient at learning jutsu. As his classes began teaching basic ninjutsu, Ryuu became well known as the top student in his class. The bullies dropped all attempts at retaliation, and just accepted their mocking. Many of them began to return in kind, and actually became friends, or at least mutually respected acquaintances.

Ryuu became a Genin when he was 12, and quickly began the grueling torture of practicing sparring most days. His weakness in physical confrontations was still conspicuous, and it embarrassed him more than a little. He was partnered with a Genin named Toruma Hatsuharu, a young Genin as well. The two were very competitive, although they each had their own areas: Toruma won nearly every competition of strength and speed, whereas Ryuu bested him in ninjutsu and intelligence. Ryuu and Toruma didn’t like each other at all, and often had trouble working together, even on the simplest missions.

However, several months after Ryuu and Toruma had begun going on missions together, they received a particularly dangerous one. They had tracked a thief to a gang operating deep within the village. Rather than report this and get help, they decided to try to root out the group themselves. One of the members of the group, however, turned out to be an Iwagakure Chunin. The Chunin, named Haru, sniffed out the Genin, and confronted them privately. The Chunin told them he was already on a mission to infiltrate the group. Haru also told them where the thief would be and when, so that they could catch him and be on their way. Ryuu and Toruma agreed and went to the designated place at the designated time. However, Haru had led them into a trap. The gang attacked Ryuu and Toruma, and the two thirteen-year olds began the fight of their lives. They barely escaped, and were luckily not seriously injured. The two Genin then began to plan their next move. They ambushed the Chunin, and captured him, revealing his position to the village leaders. This led to some investigations into Ryuu and Toruma as well, but with the help of the Genkouyoushi, Ryuu and Toruma were cleared.

While Ryuu was working as a Genin, he received training from several sources. Besides practicing against Toruma, Ryuu received training in his clan’s jutsu by his mother and father. Their training was relatively light, and they tended not to push him too hard. Nonetheless, they were useful in practicing hand seals and working on Oragami techniques. Besides them, he often spent time working with his old friend Ayako, who was now a Chunin. She was much more helpful when it came to learning chakra control, although it wasn’t long before Ryuu passed her in ability. Ayako had her own children by then, who Ryuu often enjoyed spending time with.

These were good times. He played with his friends Rokuro and Kota from the Academy. They had actually been paired together, and had graduated just one year after Ryuu. He became much closer with Toruma, and the both of them continued their competitions. He excelled in learning new jutsu, both from his parents and from his occasional visits with Hiroki (the boy who had once been his “sparring” opponent. Hiroki advanced very quickly as well, and Ryuu looked up to him. He met with Ayako weekly, and watched her children for her every now and then. His parents loved him, he had many friends, and he was skilled at his job.

When they were fourteen, Ryuu and Toruma took the Chunin exams. Together, they challenged a Chunin whom neither of them had known. Ryuu and Toruma figured there would be no problem; they had taken down a Chunin their first year as Genin. But their opponent was actually extremely difficult. He was faster, stronger, and new more advanced jutsu than either of them by far, and their plan of having Toruma fight close up while Ryuu launched attacks from a range quickly fell through the cracks. Ryuu had to come up with a new plan on the spot, and he did so with difficulty. The battle lasted two hours before Ryuu and Toruma were on their last legs. The battle ended at that point, and Ryuu and Toruma both moved on to the interview. At the interview, Ryuu made it clear that he suspected their opponent was stronger than an average Chunin. It was at the end of the interview that he was introduced to Kouki, a Jonin who had taken an interest in Ryuu and Toruma. Having kept close watch over them, he believed the two were prepared for very specific, more advanced assignments than the average Chunin. As such, he had them tested by one of his own students.

Kouki took Ryuu and Toruma, now Chunin, through several months of intense training before sending them on their first mission. The two of them were teamed up with two others, and were sent to infiltrate the growing forces of a local Tenrai horselord in the south. They did so, successfully, and Ryuu and Toruma spent several weeks within the camp. They returned to the village with a lot of information for Kouki. Over their objections, Kouki decided not to send Ryuu and Toruma out on another mission involving the Tenrai, but instead kept them in the village doing spying for him. At one point Ryuu was assigned a mission to spy on his own clan. He did so for about a week, his conscience bothering him the whole time. Ready to ask for help, Ryuu went to Hiroki Genkouyoushi, who was now a Special Jonin. Together, they brought the information of Kouki to officials in the village. Kouki was officially reprimanded, and anyone working on his missions were removed from his care and debriefed. Several weeks later, Kouki fled the village, escaping his unofficial imprisonment.

Ryuu and Toruma, now working under the village itself, continued to carry out stealth missions. Their unique skills made them particularly useful for hunting rogue ninja, assassinating rebels, and gathering intelligence. They rose to become Special Jonin when they were 16, and started going on more advanced missions. One sent them to the far north to infiltrate a tribe of Jidokami barbarians in the north. On their way, they were attacked by Kouki. The battle left Kouki and Ryuu injured, and Toruma dead. Ryuu returned to the village, and was healed after an overnight’s stay in the hospital. Ryuu later received information from Hiroki, who had been sent on a mission to bring in Kouki after Ryuu’s encounter, that Kouki had killed himself rather than bleed out without assistance.

Without Toruma, Ryuu fell into a fit of depression. He avoided his friends, preferring to spend his free time training alone. He took a break from missions for a few weeks until he had physically recovered, but his mental state was still in doubt.

Ryuu was sent on a mission to spy on another group of Tenrai in the Areno Steppes. While spying on them, he made the decision to infiltrate their ranks, as he had done several times before with other tribes. He remained undercover with the Tenrai for a week, and then another, and another. Still depressed about Toruma, he did not want to return home. After a month and a half of remaining with the horsemen, he decided it was time to go. He faked his own death before leaving the Tenrai and returning to Iwagakure. In his report, he left out his personal decision to remain with the horsemen, claiming that it was necessary to get the information he needed.

After Ryuu returned to the village, he felt much better. His moping around the steppes seemed to have cause much more sadness than it alleviated. He began to meet with his friends again, and watch Ayako’s children for her. He came to realize that Iwagakure was his home, and that all of the good times he had before weren’t gone because Toruma was.

Ryuu became active in his clan’s political life for a time, testing the waters for taking over leadership of the clan someday. He had always imagined himself in a leadership position at some point, despite his niche as a spy. However, he didn’t feel as though he could do the best for his clan; he wasn’t worried about their issues primarily. Rather, he cared more about the entire village. After a few weeks of religiously attending clan meetings, discussing topics with members, and trying to befriend individuals, he turned his sights away from clan leadership, and towards the village.

Ryuu became a Jonin when he was 19 and began taking even more difficult missions. He spent an entire month undercover near the edge of Rock Country to track down several missing ninja who were rumored to have crossed into Rock territory. After successfully finding them, he led a group of ninja to them and assisted in their assassination. The success of this mission without a single Iwagakure casualty led him to be well thought of by among some of the higher ups in the village.

Several months after Ryuu turned 20, his missions began to slow down. He found more time to spend in the village, and he spent it meeting with his old friends and training Ayako’s children, who were now preparing to start the Academy. In his remaining downtime, he trained to create his own Origami jutsu, and position himself for his ultimate goal: to become Tsuchikage.
