Physical Features:
  • Face/head: Akiro has his clan’s vibrant, red hair, and freckles, along with his clan's dull yellow eyes. He is very pale as well, so much so that others occasionally mistake him for being sick. His hair is not too long, but it covers his forehead almost completely.
  • Body: Akiro is skinny, although not overly so. He is of moderate built, from his training with the huge sword he carries around.
  • Notable Features: Despite being considered memorable, Akiro’s face shows few notable features. The only remarkable feature is a small scar that adorns his lower chin.

Clothing/Accessories: Living in Kirigakure, Akiro generally wears a light coat over his clothes, with a hood. He wears black sweatpants, and carries a pouch around his belt, hanging off the back of his pants. Generally, this pouch is hidden beneath Akiro’s coat. He wears two, rectangular pouches, one around each leg, and has a large sword strapped onto his back.

Personality:
  • General: Akiro used to be an open, cheerful kind of person. As much as he was happy, he was also selfish, and conceited. However, after the event that left his closest friend and teacher dead, and him in the hospital, he is much more restrained. While still with a generally positive outlook, he is very tempered.
  • Hopes/Dreams: Akiro’s main goals are to defend the village. He has drawn from his experiences in losing many of the people closest to him, and seeks to protect others, particularly the relationships of others, which he believes the village and clans facilitate.
  • Fears: Losing his will to live is a particularly fervent fear in the back of his head. His time in the hospital has taught him that his mind is dangerous, and he must fight to keep himself strong and alert.
  • Combat Mentality: Akiro is very cold and calculating in terms of battling. His is ever aware of the consequences of mistakes, and often has to fight off his cautiousness in order attack successfully.

This causes a seven-meter radius around them to become shrouded in a thick veil of steam, partially obscuring the user and making it hard to see any details within the cloud. Due to the stream being stretched however, it does not have enough heat or power to cause any burns.

Each cloud has a small but relatively solid form which takes advantage of it's natural buoyancy to help spring the user upwards towards the next. These clouds must be within 2 meters of each other when created, and are destroyed the moment the user springs off them, dropping to the ground in a scalding splash of hot water.

Assuming the target has restrained the opponent, they will place their fingers into the opponents nose then channel into their finger tips, releasing steam and sending it into the targets body. This will cook the insides of the target, essentially killing the from the inside out.

After performing the correct hand seals the user will spray water created from the inside of their chest through their mouth. Once the water is expelled, it will form an umbrella shape that is concave to the user and about two meters in diameter. This defense is somewhat solid and can be formed in any direction the user can spit, up to five meters away. The defense is shot at a speed of 5 and has a strength of 5 and unless completely destroyed it lasts for three posts before falling lifelessly to the ground.

By channeling katon chakra into his metal sword, Akiro is able to cause the blade to grow extremely hot, surrounding it in flames. By extending chakra from the tip of his sword, Akiro can an affix two feet of flames to the tip of his blade. Anyone touching these flames will suffer from second degree burns. The extension is not solid, being made up entirely of intangible fire. The result is these flames are useless in destroying barriers, but helpful in extending the sword’s reach. The rest of the blade has the same added strength as the Heated Blade technique.

By channeling katon chakra into their body, the user will release a short, uncontrolled burst of flame outward from their body that travels just a few centimeters and lasts hardly a second. The short-lived burst of flame pushes outward with a strength of 10.

After the needed hand seals, the user will release an katon outward from their body rapidly as the fire twists around them. This fire forms a pseudo-defense against taijutsu because for the next three posts if anyone comes into contact with it they will receive severe second degree burns. After performing the correct hand seals the user exhales a ring of fire up to 20 meters away at a speed of 20. On impact the ring immediately erupts outwards and upwards as it's dancing flames form a dome with a 5 meter diameter and a 3 meter pitch. The dome is held together at a strength of 20 for 4 posts before falling apart into wild flames.

After performing the correct hand seals the user breathes out gently and sends a wire-thin line of flames at a target. The line can travel up to 20 meters from the user at a speed of 20. If it connects to a target the contact point has all of the chakra forced into it at once, releasing flames all over the target and igniting them with ease.

Prerequisite: 10 Strength
While the basic techniques of Shinden revolve around heavy slashes from standing positions this technique is about harnessing the same destructive potential while moving. Rushing at a foe quickly, the user slashes in a downward motion in order to maintain momentum. The sword is typically swung from right to left or from left to right instead of straight down, the attack usually stopping at waist level to keep from potentially stumbling. While less destructive than some Shinden techniques, it still retains utility in battles of movement.

Prerequisite: 10 Strength
A technique designed to interrupt foes; the user pulls their hands up on their sword to expose more of the hilt while in typical Shinden stance. Once an opponent comes within range, the user yanks the hilt down in a smashing manner against the foe or a similar target. Afterwards, the user follows with a less damaging downward slash at a foe, making this effective for surprise purposes.

Prerequisite: 10 Strength
As most Shinden users wield rather large blades, The user of this technique has trained themself to use the width of their blade as a sort of shield, using it to deflect most small weaponry and block blows reliably. Users should be very liberal with the use of this technique, as too strong a blow could damage their weapon and render it useless, while too thin a weapon makes the use of this technique more difficult than one with a wider blade.

Prerequisite: 10 Strength
Lifting their sword above their head the user of this technique drives it down in one fluid motion with their blade aimed to slash through or into whatever they are attacking. The force of this technique is amplified by the fact that their stance is aimed to enhance muscle tension and torque, allowing them to make the single slash a very powerful one.

Prerequisite: 10 Strength
With a stance shift, the user quickly draws their weapon to their waist with the blade facing away from their body. The user then delivers a quick and brutal horizontal thrust forward, followed by a slice, inspiring its name by cutting down unwary opponents. The technique is defensive in nature, allowing the user to guard with the intent to counter.

C-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 15 Strength
The user he blade of their sword into the ground and then slashes sideways creating a fairly deep deep crater, around five inches, in the ground in front of them, kicking up a splash of rocks and dust to blind and harry foes. The user then lunges into their foe with an attempt to knock them over or slash at their legs. Foes with at least equal Strength to the user can avoid being knocked over and can maintain ground, preventing the follow-up slash.

C-Rank Kenjutsu Stance
Prerequisite: 15 Strength
The user assumes a somewhat curved stance by drawing one elbow down and bending it back so that the sword points straight up above the user with the left hand at cheek level and the right hand at eye level. This shifts the sword into pointing straight up instead of curved in any direction, allowing for firm and quick slashes and thrusts. This stance also allows the user to recover from an attack at a greater speed, preserving the user's defensive position without sacrificing the power behind their attacks.

Prerequisite: 15 Strength
Leaping up off the ground in any Shinden stance, the user draws their blade down and creates a powerful overhead slash which doubles as a defensive movement, the user capable of moving the sword to displace weight and momentum to change direction if needed. With this technique, the user can also form heavy slashes on uneven or unstable terrain without dependancy on solid ground.

B-Rank Kenjutsu Stance
Prerequisite: Shinden • Form Improvement, 25 strength, 25 Taijutsu
A stronger version of the Form Improvement technique, a user of this stance is capable of using their oversized weapon with such ease that the usual encumbrance of such large weapons are as if nothing to them. This allows a Shinden user to use their weapon with the same speed and control as a smaller, more easily controlled weapon, such as a ninjato or katana. The benefits of this are incredibly useful, as this allows a Shinden user to attack with incredible speed and accuracy without sacrificing their power, as well as block efficiently between blows.

D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
An illusionary jutsu that, after performing the necessary hand seals, causes the target to begin to smell rotting flesh and decaying bodies. The jutsu can cause nausea and vomiting from the target, depending on how sensitive their sense of smell is, and begins once the victim witnesses the user perform the hand seals. The smell of the dead can also cause some mental stress on the target. This genjutsu lasts for three (3) posts.

The user will do a series of hand seals, then point indiscriminately. Should the target see the pointing motion, they'll be captured in this genjutsu. For the following 4 posts, the target will see a shadow in the corner of their eyes, constantly shifting out of view when they attempt to look at it.

The user will do a series of hand seals, then within the next post, snap their fingers. Anyone who hears the snapping will hear an explosion in the distance behind them. This works as an effective distraction, or a scare tactic, if properly utilized.

D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
After performing the hand seals and pricking the opponent with some sort of small weapon (usually senbon), the opponent feels their arms and legs fall asleep. It feels as if the blood flow to these appendages has basically stopped, making their movements a tad sluggish and just all around uncomfortable. This jutsu doesn’t really hinder a person, but it makes everything they do feel off. For those who are attuned to the way their body feels during battle, it can be extremely distracting. Lasts 3 posts.

*[Genjutsu • Demonic Illusion • Hell Viewing]
C-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
This is a genjutsu technique that causes its target to see a horrifying vision. The ninja will perform some hand seals and make eye contact with the target. Once cast, the world will appear normal to the target until they see the illusion. The illusion is at the discretion of the user. However, they can only make a stationary image, or a visual loop, not a controllable visual illusion. Examples would be a decapitated head on a table, or one of their friends running in circles on fire. This illusions may only last up to 4 posts, or until the user ends the jutsu themselves. As a note, this only effects sight.


*[Genjutsu • Burning to Death]
C-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
This is a genjutsu technique which can be used in quite a few ways. The user forms a hand seal, and as long as the opponent(s) see it, then the genjutsu will begin. The user and the opponent(s) will both light on fire and start to burn, from the feet up to the head, in the opponent's mind. The opponent will normally start to panic and try to get rid of the fire, especially since they feel as if they were in actual pain. This genjutsu lasts for 4 posts and will not appear to be able to be extinguished, no matter what the victim does. The illusion is very static, in the sense that it doesn't change with the environment, it merely creates an illusory flame and pain.

*[Genjutsu • Reverse Hypnosis]
C-Ranked Status Genjutsu
This is a three post genjutsu. To start the genjutsu, the ninja does the hand seals that are needed and then places a hand on the target. Until the genjutsu ends the target is able to remember a lot more about their past and has a lighter barrier over their consciousness making it easier for them to spill information. This doesn’t weaken their will, however, meaning if they are aware it’s a genjutsu, they are more than capable of using Kai.

B-Ranked Status Genjutsu
The user will do a series of hand seals, then wink at their target. Should the target see them wink, they'll be caught in the genjutsu. For the next 4 posts, the target will have a sense of fear originating from the user and things they do. If the user takes a step forward, the target will be more inclined to take a step back, threats will have a higher efficacy, and they'll be more inclined to simply do what they can to avoid having to fight the user.

*[Genjutsu • Scatter and Run]
B-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
If the genjutsu user ever needs to run, this is the ideal technique to use. The target simply has to see them take their first step to run after the user has performed the hand seals. If the target saw the first step to run, the genjutsu caster will suddenly split into 90 "clones." This will allow the genjutsu caster to run away amidst the confusion, as the mass of clones run in every single direction at a speed of 20. Of course, touching one of these "clones" will cause them to disperse in a cloud of smoke, but they will do everything in their power to avoid making contact. If the clones aren't touched, the jutsu lasts for up to 6 posts.

A-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
This is a genjutsu technique that is activated after the user performs the needed hand seals and makes eye contact with the target. Once caught, the ninja's opponent becomes enveloped in total darkness. While in the black void, the ninja will be unable to see any incoming attack or threat. This lasts for 5 posts.

Akiro was always ahead of his age. He learned to speak earlier than most, and learned to read at age two. As such, the clan never questioned whether or not Akiro would become a ninja; his path was determined from the beginning. His parents were both fairly nice; both from the Jouchaku Clan, as was tradition, they had been arranged to marry. Still, their home was very loving, and Akiro and his younger brother were both cared for.

The rest of the clan pushed Akiro, and he managed to beat their expectations. He graduated among the top students of his class in the Academy, and became a Genin early. During his time at the academy, he made many friends. While not particularly popular, he never lacked for people to talk to. He was well accepted, but was never more accepted than with his friend Tadao Fushinkou. Tadao and Akiro challenged each other in their academics as well as in physical contests. Together, they pushed each other to go further, and they became Genin together.

While a Genin, Akiro met a girl named Nao Ran. Nao had become a Genin the year after Akiro and Tadao, although they were the same age. Akiro formed a very different relationship with Nao. While Akiro and Tadao saw each other as rivals, Akiro and Nao helped each other, acting as support systems for themselves. The two nurtured each other’s strengths, and Akiro was relieved when he went up against a different ninja in the Chunin exams, and not Nao.

The Jouchaku clan was never happy with Nao and Akiro’s relationship. The Clan had always furthered their goal of intra-clan relations, which Akiro seemed to be avoiding. He had relatively few connections to the Clan, even as the Clan itself had supported Akiro for so long. Besides his immediate family, Akiro’s strongest connection to the Jouchaku Clan came from Mizuki Jouchaku, a very successful Jonin who took to training Akiro. She was strict, and did not cut Akiro any slack for being as successful as he was, as the rest of the Clan had. She routinely battled with him for practice, causing scrapes and bruises that occasionally turned into broken bones. Still, Akiro respected Mizuki, and he didn’t respect many people. She was stronger than he, as well as at least comparable in intelligence.

Akiro’s extra training paid off, and he became a Chunin at the young age of 15. With more interesting assignments available to him, Akiro dropped much of his training to focus on his missions. The one thing he didn’t drop was spending time with Nao, who remained a Genin for another year and a half before becoming a Chunin. Akiro and Nao were placed on a squad with each other, and he was extremely happy.

The Jouchaku Clan was not happy with this, and they leaned on Mizuki to stop it. She confronted Akiro, and the two had a falling out that lasted several months. Finally, Mizuki returned to Akiro, and apologized for accepting the Clan’s words over him. She said that she agreed with his decision, and they continued to train in secret. Akiro grew even more fond of Mizuki and they continued to bond despite their overt separation. The Clan still wanted to separate Akiro and Nao, and they used their influence to place Akiro and Nao with Mizuki, who was tasked with overseeing this issue. She, of course, did nothing to stop the two.

On one mission, however, things finally went south. A group of rogue ninja attacked Akiro’s squad during a mission. Mizuki was killed, sacrificing herself to blunt the rogue ninjas’ initial surprise attack. Without Mizuki, the squad was left significantly weakened and both Nao and Akiro’s other teammate was killed. Akiro was gravely wounded, and left for dead. He was found by another squad, and brought back to the village. He spent the next three months in a grueling hospital stay. While his initial wounds were treatable, when he heard about Nao, his body’s defenses shut down. His wounds were infected, and the medical ninja worked day and night to prevent them from spreading.

A month and a half after contracting the infection, Akiro was almost dead. The infection had spread to his lungs, and his chances of recovery dipped below fifty percent. It was at this point that a third visit from Tadao turned him around. Akiro began fighting the infection, and he recovered.

After the ordeal, Akiro was never the same. Much more reserved, he spent more time training alone and less time hanging out with friends, including Tadao. He quickly returned to full health, and resumed going on missions. A few members of his clan tried to replace Mizuki, but Akiro wasn’t open to a new sensei. He trained himself, and became so strong that he was raised to the rank of Jonin at age 18. He further dedicated himself both to his clan and to his village, as he sought to protect in others what he had lost.
