Kazuki, Ryu

"I will make my father proud!"

General Information Age: 13
Gender: Male
Height: 5'6
Weight: 160 Ibs
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: Ryu's piercing blue eyes are a reflection of his father's, and his flowing red hair is just the same. He keeps his hair rather wild and freeflowing however, and so long that it reaches his lower back. His face is still rather soft given his age, but the angles of maturity are beginning to show in his jawline.
  • Body: Ryu's body is thin and lithe, an indication of his intense Iaido training focused mostly on speed and coordination. However, there is clear muscle definition as well, including clear biceps and as much of a six pack as a 13 year old could have. His skin is quite pale given the almost unending mists of Kiri, but it doesn't appear sickly or ghostly. He bears scars here and there as the result of training and exercises, but he wears them with pride as a show of his constant improvement.
  • Notable Features:Ryu's most notable feature is a tattoo on the back of his neck, the symbol of the Karagata family. This kraken shaped tattoo is usually hidden by his hair, but a close look will show tentacles wrapping around the back of his neck and ending on the sides of it.
Clothing/Accessories: Ryu typically wears a white short sleeved tang shirt with blue trim. Underneath this is typically a black sleeveless shirt for wicking away sweat, and he wears a pair of simple blue pants complete with a belt for attaching his ninja pouch and sword to. For footwear, he wears a pair of simple blue ninja sandals, and he has been known to cover up with a thick blue hooded cloak on chillier days in Kiri.

Personality:
  • General: Since Ryu idolizes his late father, Overseer Ryoga, it's no surprise to anyone who knows him that he emulates many of Ryoga's characteristics. Ryu believes that power is everything; Without it, you are worthless, not even worth the effort of killing. His loyalty to Kirigakure's ideology is unquestionable, and he has no qualms over any hard decisions that must be made for the sake of the village's benefit. The weak do not deserve to live in Ryu's eyes, but the strong deserve his respect. And in his eyes, the word 'strength' has various definitions, no two of which are quite the same. Even the run down slave has strength, if he reaches deep enough to find it. His mother, Overseer Ren, is a prime example of that fact.

The young boy has little free time, spending what little time he does have reading or relaxing his body with things like a massage or hot spring. He spends a good deal of time with his twin sister Amaya, as the two are rivals. They live together, go on missions together, train together; much of their shinobi career has been spent with each other. He has a general indifference towards most people, save the few who prove themselves or happen to catch his eye. However, he is capable of working as part of a team, however much he may prefer to fight solo. In conclusion, Ryu is his father's son, and anyone who knew Ryoga would know that at a single glance. He is a dedicated, honorable warrior who will do whatever it takes to prove himself to Kirigakure, in the honor of his family name.
  • Hopes/Dreams: To one day assume the mantle of Overseer, like his father before him.
  • Fears: Tarnishing his father's memory by being a failure.
  • Combat Mentality:Ryu has followed in his father, Late Overseer Kazuki Ryoga's footsteps to the letter, and has dedicated his life to mastering the ways of the blade as his father did. He is far beyond many his age in this art, but at the cost of pretty much everything else. Without his sword, Ryu is nothing, but with it, he can prove to be quite a fearsome opponent.

IaidoShow
Iaido Kenjutsu:
The samurai of the Land of Tea have produced a unique style of Kenjutsu called Iaido. Unlike other styles, which rely on the sword being drawn to attack, a practitioner of Iaido is always ready to attack their opponents, even when their weapon is sheathed in its scabbard. Known as a "sword drawing" technique, Iaido uses the smooth, linear motion of pulling the sword from its sheath to create abnormally fast slashes and strikes against often ignorant and unsuspecting opponents. Though the katana is preferred for this style, any curved sword single-edged sword with a complimenting scabbard is compatible with this style. Their ability to fight with both traditional swordplay and hand-to-hand combat while perfectly capable of switching to quick slashes and stabs using Iaido's hallmark techniques makes practitioners of this style unpredictable fighters.
Requires [Sword] and [Perception] Concentrations
*[Iaido • Ancestral Focus]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The hallmark of Iaido is its practitioners abilities to launch an attack even when their swords are sheathed. This Discipline represents the practitioner's capacity to consistently execute a sword draw and slash all in one movement by gripping the edge of the scabbard and pulling the scabbard slightly forward before drawing the sword. This Discipline enables the practitioner to immediately draw their sword and attack at the start of combat.

*[Iaido • Last Breath]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The most iconic (and most basic) strike of Iaido, the practitioner quickly draws and cuts with their blade in a wide arc in one fluid motion. This simultaneous draw and attack straight from the scabbard makes Iaido well-suited for an initial surprise attack and for taking advantage of openings presented by the opponent.

*[Iaido • Mantra]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
A simple yet potent defense, especially against other weapons users, the practitioner partially draws the sword from its scabbard and blocks incoming attacks with the back of their blade. This technique is ineffective against opponents with higher Strength than the practitioner's Strength.

*[Iaido • Ambidexterity]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
After practicing for a long amount of time with the concept of using both of their hands with equal skill, the user has developed a level of ambidexterity that allows them to utilize both hands equally and as effectively without any penalty. This extends to other methods of combat or simple everyday life as well.

*[Iaido • Last Rites]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
A defensive technique particularly useful when an opponent is close to the practitioner or is clinching them in a grapple, the practitioner grabs the hilt of their sword with a reverse grip and rams the butt or pommel of the hilt into the opponent's body, pushing the opponent back a number of meters equal to the difference between their Strength scores. Conversely, against opponents with higher Strength than their own, the practitioner can use this technique to push themselves back a number of meters equal to their own Strength score. The speed and simplicity of the attack can push opponents away and give the practitioner the needed space to set up additional attacks.

**[Iaido • One with the Sheath]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite(s): 8 Speed.
The practitioner has learned how to more quickly and efficiently sheath his blades. The practitioner can now seamlessly transition from drawing their blade to slash to sheathing their blade, allowing the practitioner to sheath their sword in half the time, up to a maximum speed equal to their Speed score, for the more rapid execution of Iaido techniques.

*[Iaido • Shinigami Draw]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Losing the use of one's hand or arm in a fight can be a death sentence, but Iaido has found a simple, elegant response to this desperate situation. Using their free hand, the practitioner momentarily braces the edge of their sword against the inside of the scabbard before drawing. While it does not confer the instant acceleration benefit of its parent technique, this Discipline does allow the practitioner to use Iaido techniques at their normal speed even with only one hand.

*[Iaido • One with the Sword]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite(s): *[Iaido • One with the Sheath].
The practitioner has learned how to more quickly and efficiently sheath his blades even without the use of both hands. The practitioner can now sheath the blade just as quickly with one hand as could be done with two hands, and so long as the scabbard remains on their person, the practitioner will always have an exact knowledge of the position of their scabbard.

*[Iaido • Ancestral Visage]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Using Iaido to its fullest requires a keen eye and quick reactions, enabling its users to target weaknesses and openings that their opponents present almost instantaneously. This Discipline represents the practitioner's ability to attack openings that present themselves, the practitioner now able to reflexively attack an opening in almost the same moment that it is observed. This Discipline reduces the gap of time between a practitioner recognizing a potential opening for attack and launching the attack to exploit said opening to almost nil.

*[Iaido • Death’s Gate]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed.
Drawing upon the superlative speed of Iaido, the practitioner momentarily torques the muscles in their body to draw their sword from its scabbard and deliver a blindingly fast slash before sheathing their blade. Properly reading this attack requires the opponent to have a Perception technique of equal or higher rank than this technique. Otherwise, they cannot accurately read the attack and will be unlikely to completely avoid the attack, if at all.

*[Iaido • Peace in Death]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed.
An abnormally aggressive technique in Iaido, this technique serves as a preemptive counter, attacking the opponent in the split moment between drawing back to prepare an attack and launching said attack. Violently torquing the muscles in their legs, the practitioner more quickly accelerates to their maximum speed (or instantly accelerating to their max speed if their Strength is equal or higher than their Speed) than with normal movement. With this movement, the practitioner bolts toward the opponent and launches an attack, cutting the opponent as they pass to their side. This technique can be used while moving to immediately change direction instead before launching the attack. Properly reading this attack requires the opponent to have a Perception technique of equal or higher rank than this technique.

*[Iaido • Shinigami’s Wrath]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed.
A technique refining the concept of targeting multiple opponents with a single draw, the practitioner uses their sheath hand to reverse grip the hilt. Using the one hand, the practitioner quickly torques their body and cuts with a reverse hand slash a full 360 degrees before immediately sheathing the blade. This technique can strike multiple opponents at once, and the reverse grip of the sword allows the practitioner to more easily defend against counterattacks immediately after.

HistoryShow
Kazuki Ryu and his twin sister, Kazuki Amaya, were born to Kazuki Ryoga and his wife Ren. They began life as the children of two warriors with a certain standing in the village. However at the age of five the pair accompanied their parents to a grand event, the Festival of Lights in Iron Country. On their return they were attacked and their father stayed back to fight the enemy, a large group of bandits lead by a trio of missing ninja. They never realized that when their mother went back to find him, it would be to return with his body. Kazuki Ryoga was the Overseer of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist and the funeral was befitting a man of his position. But it was the beginning of a terrible time for the family, and not just because of the loss of Ryoga. A year after his death Amaya’s mother became too distraught and committed suicide.

Her death left Ryu and his sister in the hands of their grandparents where Ryu would learn the ways of the blade not from his father, but from his grandfather. Being just as stubborn as Ryoga, Ryu butted heads with his grandpa constantly, but the man's sword skills had given rise to Ryoga's... There was no denying that such teachings would lead Ryu along a similar path. He trained day after day, reading old journals his parents left behind to get to know their work and their lives. As he went into the academy, he went in with a chip on his shoulder and seemed to practically refuse to try and make friends. He focused almost entirely on the work, and on nothing else.

When Ryu graduated the academy, alongside his twin sister, with great pride and a beaming future. Finally a Genin, Ryu was ready to prove that he was his father's son, and that his sword would bring great glory and fame to the Kazuki name. Then the news slapped him in the face that his assigned rival would be none other than his twin, Amaya. Frustrated, Ryu resigned himself to even more time spent together with his sister, a woman he simply couldn't seem to get away from. And shortly after their assignment as a team, they received their first mission; go out to a local mine and figure out why the slaves refused to work.

When they arrived, they found that the men believed the mine to be haunted. While the slave's boss wanted the two genin to force them back into the mines, nothing short of proving that their was no danger was going to get the slaves to go back into the mine. They would have sooner died on Ryu's blade. So the two ventured into the mine with a brave slave to guide them, a man by the name of Kouta. However, they found that the mine was indeed a dangerous place, and before long the danger revealed itself to be some sort of red blob of mass that had picked the bones of multiple slaves clean. A fight ensued, but the creature managed to get a hold of Ryu and dragged him deeper into the cave.

By the time Amaya found Ryu, the creature was gone, or so it seemed. The three searched the cave but found nothing, and eventually they deemed their mission a success as they left for Kiri. But along the way, the creature revealed itself... It had merged with Ryu. After some prying, the entity made a name for itself; Hisan. Seeing that the creature could have killed Ryu in an instant, but that would have left the creature with no where to go to escape, it posed forth an idea; A symbiotic relationship. Hisan would strengthen Ryu, turn him into a powerful warrior, and in return Ryu would allow the creature to exist within him, safe and sound with a supply of chakra to feed off of. Without much choice, Ryu agreed, and so the two have become one. Now, Ryu seeks either an escape from the wretched entity within him, or some way to coexist with the creature if nothing else.

Owner: Kazuki Ryu
Hisan
Misery Incarnate

Description: Hisan is a symbiotic entity that must bond with a host to thrive and prosper. When not inhabiting a host, Hisan appears as nothing more than a red and black amorphous blob that can shift and shape itself however it needs or wants to, but cannot extend farther than 2 meters in any one direction. However this form is rarely seen, as Hisan is for all intents and purposes bound to Ryu until his death, at which point the creature will no doubt attempt to leave him and move on to another host.

Influences: Hisan's physical influence on Ryu's body manifests in his oddly colored eyes, which have red sclerae and black irides with red pupils. In terms of personality, Hisan's presence within Ryu's mind pushes him towards sadism and hunger. He enjoys inflicting pain on his enemies, a little too much in some cases, causing him to lose himself in other people's misery. His hunger is also nigh unending, and he's been known to consume multiple pounds of meat in a single sitting if he's gone too long without eating.

Powers: Hisan is a separate entity that can act independantly of Ryu as needed. However, Whether manifested or not, Hisan shares a telepathic and sensory link with Ryu; Ryu's senses are it's senses, and vice versa. This link between them is what enables Hisan to react to obstacles that Ryu may be unable to handle on his own, but it also means that it cannot react to anything that Ryu himself is not aware of. In order for Hisan to attack an assailant or defend against an assault, Ryu must be aware of it in some way.

While unmanifested, the creature can lash out against threats using no more than D rank Symbiotic Taijutsu. It's maximum range is also limited to (symbiosis) meters, as Hisan's power is limited while not truly manifested. In order to tap into the true power of Hisan, Ryu must allow the creature to manifest itself fully. The strength and durability of any of Hisan's manifestations are equal to Ryu's strength, and their speed are equal to his speed. Symbiotic Taijutsu enables Hisan to perform many unique actions, including creating appendages to attack with, altering Ryu's physique with additional benefits such as wings or gills, infecting enemies with parts of itself to debilitate them from within, and more based on staff's discretion.

While fully manifested, Ryu will appear to grow by about a half a foot, while the creature takes the form of a red and black bodysuit covering his entire body from head to toe. Ryu also gains natural claws, 4 cm in length, capable of rending flesh with ease. Finally, his mouth is capable of unhinging like a snake's, and his mouth bears rows of jagged, 3 cm length teeth meant for shredding flesh.

In this state, Hisan is capable of using any rank of Symbiotic Taijutsu, provided Ryu meets the proper stats necessary to utilize them. The range of Hisan's techniques in this state are equal to Ryu's Symbiosis stat x2. This is in addition to any other requirements he may need to meet. While Hisan is fully manifested, Ryu's stats will be boosted based on the table below.
Boosts
10 Symbiosis+5 Strength
20 Symbiosis+5 Speed, 5 Strength
30 Symbiosis+5 Speed, +5 Strength, +5 Endurance
40 Symbiosis+10 Strength, +5 Speed, +5 Endurance
50 Symbiosis+10 Strength, +5 Speed, +10 Endurance
