"The Deserter"
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: At 6'4", Zakuro towers over many of his fellow shinobi, and is easily distinguishable in a crowd. What's more, his body is built strong and sturdy, with each and every muscle toned for perfect application in taijutsu. During his exile, he lost some of his bulk, but still carries an intimidating silhouette. Through the rough road and many hurdles of the past five years, Zakuro's appearance has become more scruffy and rugged. His facial hair has grown thicker and longer than ever before, and his usually kempt blond hair has grown long and wild.

His eyes are always watching. Always watching. In fact, what one might notice most about Zakuro, are his eyes. Slightly sunken, and shadowed as the result of many sleepless nights and anxiety-riddled days, the boy's eyes have never lost their sharpness. The very sea blue color seems to assist in piercing through falsehood and identifying the best course of action in every situation.
  • Notable Features: A terrible scar circles his right bicep. A painfully memory of when his arm was torn asunder and he lost his way.----
Clothing/Accessories: Zakuro ditched his normal outfit when he returned for something more intimidating and protective. The bottom layer of his clothing, he wears a black, skin tight, long sleeve shirt. The fabric goes all the way up to the top of his neck, and can be pulled up and used as a face mask if needed. Over that, he wears a black leather jacket. The collar of the jacket typically remains open, and flat against his chest. He wears a pair of leather gloves. For trousers he wears simply black pants with two cargo pockets. He has a pair of black combat boots on and his forehead protector is wrapped around his left thigh.

Personality:
Zakuro is fiercely loyal and unwavering in his resolve to protect the ones he loves, namely those from his village. The thought that he might one day face a challenge too strong for him to overcome frightens him, driving him to train and excel beyond all expectations and reason. There was once a time where the thought of losing a comrade would put paralyzing fear into his heart, but he has witnessed one too many deaths, each one leaving him colder than the last. In recent years, Zakuro has grown more quiet and aggressive. He had seen many terrible things, but the war has twisted his once cheery personality into something far more distant and introspective.

An image of inferiority clouds his mind. To him, he will never be enough to defeat the man that could've taken his life with a twitch of his hand. Why Zakuro survived the invasion of Konoha is a mystery, but this inferiority has given Zakuro an insatiable lust for improvement. Any set-back, any stagnation is akin to death to Zakuro. To stop improving is to let Yaku win. The image of a disciplined man who enjoys his time in the training field is merely a façade. He trains because of the hatred in his heart, hatred towards himself, that he owes his life to a monster that decided not to hit Zakuro with his all.

Zakuro constantly feels an underlying anxiety of what might happen if the village was to be attacked... again. This anxiety corrodes Zakuro's heart and fondness for the village he loves so much. He feels in many ways like he and the village are star-crossed lovers. He will fight to his last breath to ensure her safety, but he knows he can never truly find peace while this inner war wages on.

Combat Mentality: Cold and calculated. Anyone that knew Zakuro before the war wouldn't use these words to describe him, but now they fit him perfectly. Utilizing a massive variety of Taijutsu techniques, Zakuro will strike down any man he deems a threat, or an enemy. There is no room for mercy on the battlefield. As a man who's biggest desire was to protect everyone, Zakuro discovered that the best way to do this was to kill his enemy before they had the chance to strike back.

The Birth of a HeroShow
The child's first cries called forth thunder from the skies, piercing the night with their crack and his wail. His parents were not superstitious, and thought nothing of it, but the midwife claimed that the skies spoke a foreboding prophecy over the young child. He would wield power like a terrible storm, but he would never be able to calm the storm inside.

Sure enough, as the child grew, he was a bolt of lightning. He was always fast, and always impulsive. His parents were simple farmers, working the land near Konoha and selling their goods in the village market. Generally, such proximity to a hidden village warded off any kind of bandit raid that might otherwise be expected, but when Zakuro was just seven years old, his family's farm was raided by a particularly bold group of men on horses. Even at that young age, Zakuro's instincts led him to protect the ones he loved. He didn't think twice about throwing himself headlong into action, bolting out to challenge the offenders with his parents, afraid for their son's life, running after him.

The men took great sport in beating the boy nearly to death, the consequence for not yet having learned his place in the world. By the time his parents arrived the raiders had already formed an impenetrable barrier around the now bloodied boy, and were laughing at him, challenging him to free himself. The boy's body was broken, but his spirit would never bow. He kept fighting to what would have been his last breath, but before those much stronger men could deliver the final, skull-crushing blow, a blur flashed before Zakuro's eyes, and he was free. He watched through blood-soaked eyes as his hero dealt swiftly with his assailants, saving the young boy's life. He was a shinobi from The Hidden Leaf.

Zakuro never forgot what he had seen that day. His parents had always intended for him to take over the farm, but that day he had found his calling. He knew what he had to do. He wanted to never again be helpless, unable to defend his loved ones. He would become a shinobi. This dream, however, was quickly confronted by the reality of his humble origins and his family's lack of funds. His parents could not bare to see their son's dreams dashed, but they knew they could not support him through the shinobi academy.

One day, while on a trip to the market to sell crops with his parents, Zakuro heard a shinobi recruiter advertising scholarships for entry to the academy, and made it clear that ones heritage would not bar their entry to the academy if they proved themselves worthy. The young boy dedicated the next year of his life to training and becoming all he needed to be to enter the academy. He applied all of his energy and focus to the task, astounding even his parents with his perseverance. Finally, after a year of training, his parents permitted him to apply, and he was accepted on a scholarship.
The First StepShow
It came as no surprise to Zakuro's parents that he excelled in taijutsu. He had a level of natural talent that allowed him to quickly overtake many of his classmates in anything physical, but he seemed to always fail at everything relating to ninjutsu and genjutsu, eliciting snickers and bullying from his classmates. Zakuro made sure they paid for every remark, though, and was constantly getting into fights. Those years were a living hell for the boy, but his resolution never wavered. He would become a ninja.

Determination is not everything, however, and even with his exceptional gift for Taijutsu, he barely graduated from the academy with the rest of his class, due to his lack of skill in two thirds of the class material. He was approved for graduation, however, and became an official shinobi of The Hidden Leaf. But his journey had only just begun.
A Haunting MistakeShow
Shortly after graduation, and with only a few menial labor missions under his belt, the village came under siege. Two legendary missing ninja, Yaku and Enma, swept through the village like angels of death, terrorizing all in their wake. Zakuro feared for his life, and for the first time in his life, his fear overcame his will to defend those he cared for.

He found himself hiding as a civilian in a dark building. But there, in the dark, surrounded by so many innocents who were helpless to do anything, Zakuro came to the revelation that he was betraying his village and his honor by cowering in fear.

He rushed out of the building just as the two phantoms passed in front of him. It was an odd phenomenon within Zakuro's consciousness as time both sped up and slowed down. The two shinobi bolted past him with incredible speed, but as they did, the larger of them, Yaku, struck out, his fist connecting with Zakuro with a strength that could crush mountains. At that very moment, the boy's eyes connected with the pale, pleading eyes of a woman he would later know as Hyuuga Aina, a woman they had taken hostage He had no time to think, however, as the strike from Yaku sent him flying back into the building he had been cowering in only moments before. By a strange twist of fate, or maybe a moment of mercy from a hardened criminal, Zakuro survived.

Zakuro awoke in the hospital, surrounded by hundreds of the people he had sworn to protect. The thirteen days he spent there were worse than an eternity in hell as he heaped guilt and shame onto his own conscious. He went into therapy to recover his broken body's strength, including a few days of assisting with the village's reconstruction, but no beam or boulder could be heavier than the weight he felt within. He had been so weak, so helpless.

He determined to grow and increase in strength, returning to the resolution he'd made as a child. He would never again stand by and watch as his village, his family, was in danger. He sought out a Jounin mentor, Nara Shikari. She agreed to train him, and held up her end of the deal. She taught him how to think, how to plan, and how to use his own gifts to his advantage. His newfound dedication led him to months of training harder than anyone else he knew. He was so focused, in fact, that he failed to realize how strong he had become until an encounter with an old peer, Taiga, revealed his new strength and skill. The skirmish ended as soon as it had started, and within moments Zakuro emerged victorious, much to the surprise of all involved. He was no longer the young boy who had graduated from the academy and hid in fear at his village's hour of need.

At the recommendation of his mentor, Zakuro was selected for the Chuunin Exams, during which he was paired up against a higher ranking opponent. The same anxiety he had felt in the past returned, but this time, he did not allow it to take control. He used it as motivation, and trained all the more. In the end, Zakuro won the fight on a technicality, but he did not allow his pride to hinder his advancement, so he accepted his victory. The final test, however, an interview with Aoi, proved to be even more challenging than the fight itself. During the interview, Zakuro was challenged to identify his core motivation for growth and advancement. It was in that moment, maybe for the first time in his life, that Zakuro finally understood what motivated him and pushed him to excel. He was honor bound to protect the village and its people, no matter the personal cost. And with that goal clearly etched in his mind, Zakuro entered the ranks of a full-fledged shinobi as a Chuunin.
The Fall of The HeroShow
Not Long after, Zakuro was tasked out to go on a simple recon mission for Mamorinuku, an organization that he recently had joined. There were reports of suspicious activity near the base of a mountain just a few days walk from the village, so Zakuro went out. This being his first mission after his promotion, Zakuro felt a plethora of emotions within himself. Excitement, fear, worry, and many more. Regardless, he went on the task without question. He was accompanied by another Konoha shinobi by the name of Inari. Receiving help took some of the edge off.

Upon reaching the base of the mountain, something at the top seemed to call for Zakuro to scale it. So, he set off. For a man of his strength, scaling the side of a mountain would be a fairly simple task, but there was a constant torrent of wind that attempted to rip him off the side. Nonetheless, Zakuro made it to the top. The top of the mountain was very flat, and towards the center, there was a cave. Zakuro ventured forth and discovered a pair of gloves inside that seemed to be ancient. He instinctively put them on, but trouble was beginning to approach.

Apparently artifacts had been popping up randomly across the country. A group of people had tracked down this area as the next spot for artifacts. Lucky Gene had caught up to them by that point. As Zakuro left the cave, he saw them waiting. It didn't take long for things to get out of hand as a ninja from Kiri became agitated by Zakuro's persistence to keep the gloves, and with one blinding slash of his sword, Zakuro's right arm was served from his body. The Chuunin instantly lost consciousness.

Upon waking, Zakuro discovered two things. The first being that his wound had been somewhat healed. At least the bleeding had been stopped. The second was that an ancient dragon had been summoned to their location and was raining destruction on his former enemies. Zakuro prepared himself for a fight, even though he was in no condition to do so. While missing an arm, Zakuro assaulted the massive beast. He fought with all of his heart, but the monster got the best of him. He was brutally beaten and lost consciousness again. Luckily Gene was there to help him back to Konoha.

He was helped back to the village while fading in and out of consciousness. His broken body was placed in front of Saigo, a missing ninja who recently found asylum within the walls of the village. Fate must've pitied the boy, as they brought him to the best medical shinobi who had ever lived. Zakuro's arm was reattached, but he could tell that it wasn't the same as it had been. Every movement caused pain, and he could barely bare the weight of his own arm, let alone picking up anything else. The once bright and cheery boy entered a dark place. He had dedicated the last years of his life to training so he could one day bring to justice those who attacked Konoha, but now he was useless.

Months went by. Zakuro continued making attempts to train and work on his arm, but slowly his resolve died to where he quit trying. It was apparent to everyone in the village that Zakuro had lost his way. In an attempt to help him, Zakuro received orders to train with the scared Hyuuga he might before being almost killed by Yaku. Aina tried to help the boy, but he was a lost cause. They survived the invasion together, so seeing him give up like this must've made her snap. She had just witnessed one of her best friends give up on life and drink himself away days before. She couldn't handle seeing it again. In a rage, Aina hit Zakuro across his face. The words that she said to him in that moment would echo in his head for weeks. "You don't deserve to be a shinobi, you don't deserve my time. At this point I wouldn't bat an eye if you ended your own life." He laid there for awhile. Alone in the dirt of that training field. Driven to the edge of his depression, he left the village.
The DeserterShow
At the gate of the village, Zakuro did what he had to do. He took down two Konoha shinobi that were guarding the entrance. He ran. Ran as fast as his legs could take him, but they didn't move fast enough. Fanho Awai caught up to Zakuro. It was there in the rain that he attempted to stop and console his broken friend, but Zakuro was too far gone. He didn't listen, and so the two fought. The battle was short. The gloves that Zakuro threw everything away for would prove to be Fanho's downfall. Zakuro's hand wrapped around Fanho's jutsu, stopping it in place. For a split second, Zakuro's friend was frozen in bewilderment. A split second was all it took. Zakuro sent two senbon into the eyes of the Awai boy, rendering him blind and the fight over. Standing over Fanho, watching him squirm in pain, Zakuro started to realize the mistakes he just made, but it was all too late. More shinobi were on their way. He had to run.

Bloodied, tired, and on the run, the boy moved quickly through the forest he called home, leaving it behind.

The BrawlerShow
The Brawler:
The Brawler is a fighting style developed by Zakuro Gerudo. This style specializes in offense, focusing on heavy hitting blows and damaging muscles to debilitate their functions, and quick, uninterrupting dodges.
Requires:
  • [Close Quarters Combat] Concentration
D-RanksShow
[The Brawler • One-Two Punch]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user throws a very fast jab with their forward hand aimed towards the jaw of their opponent. They then retract their forward hand and throw a much more powerful swing with their rear hand.

[The Brawler • Guard Breaker]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user makes a powerful swing at the target’s bicep, causing the muscle to tear and making that arm feel fatigued and sluggish. The greater the difference between the user’s strength and the target’s endurance, the stronger this effect.

[The Brawler • Low Kick]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user makes a powerful kick into the target’s thigh, causing the muscle to tear and making that leg feel fatigued and sluggish. The greater the difference between the user’s strength and the target’s endurance, the stronger this effect.

[The Brawler • Clinch]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user gets in close and grabs their opponent in almost a hug, pinning their arms to their sides. They then land a string of knees to the ribs and kidneys before shoving the opponent away to disorient and create distance.

[The Brawler • Feint]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user makes a series of realistic looking jabs at their opponent in an attempt to bait them into blocking or countering. These jabs are very weak and won’t do any real damage if they land, but also cost almost no energy to do. The user can very quickly counter with another technique if their opponent takes the bait.
C-RanksShow
[The Brawler • To The Gut]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user leads with a blow straight to the face to blind the opponent from the next blow. Before making impact with either the opponent's face or guard, the user will put all of their force into an uppercut straight into the opponent's gut. If the opponent's endurance is lower than the user’s strength, they will get the wind knocked out of them and lose 1/5th of the user’s strength in endurance for the next three posts (to a max of -6).

[The Brawler • Eat Me]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user leads with a feint with their lead hand. Then they take a quick step forward and grab the opponent by their hair. Using the opponent's hair, the user will pull their head down while also quickly kneeing them in the face. This will likely break the opponent’s nose, causing it to bleed increasing difficulty breathing and communicating.

[The Brawler • Dodge and Weave]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user will quickly move towards their opponent, zig zagging back and forth as they do so. The user’s hands are in fists up toward their face as they do so. If the opponent doesn’t have a perception technique of equal or greater rank, the user will appear as a blur and will be very difficult to track.

[The Brawler • Reach]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
The user knows exactly how far away they can be from their target to land a hit, and after watching their opponent swing a few times, they can determine their opponent’s exact reach as well. This works with weapons as well.

[The Brawler • Back Down]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user squeezes their fist tightly and delivers a quick, but powerful strike to their opponent. Even if the attack is blocked, this attack will send a shockwave through their body, causing stumbling and knocking them back unless they have 5 greater strength than the user.

HawkShow
The Hawk:
The Hawk is a fighting style developed by Zakuro Gerudo. This style specializes in close and extremely close offense, focusing on utilizing projectiles in the middle of combos to strike in places an opponent wouldn’t be expecting and on dealing severe damage to an opponent’s body.
Requires:
  • [Close Quarters Combat] Concentration
  • [Projectiles] Concentration
  • [Medicine] Concentration
[The Hawk • Drilling Smash]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user starts facing their opponent, and quickly spins, slamming an elbow into the opponent during it. The user continues their spin, pushing their elbow even harder into the opponent by following through with the strike, and also using their free hand to drive a projectile straight into the target’s chest.

[The Hawk • Pushing Peck]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user delivers a powerful front kick into their opponent’s chest, sending the target back, and pushing off of them at the same time. During this movement, the user will also quickly throw a projectile into the opponent’s chest.

[The Hawk • Gut Glider]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user approaches their target and leads with a projectile to the face. Without stopping, the user will utilize the distraction of the projectile to quickly fly forward with a knee to the opponent’s diaphragm. If the target’s endurance is lower than the user’s strength, the target will begin to cough hard and will lose their breath, unable to take deep breaths for 2 posts.

[The Hawk • Riposting Peck]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user throws a projectile at the target’s hand, usually when they’re holding a weapon, in order to get them to shift their hand long enough to get in a quick strike.

[The Hawk • Soaring Strikes]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user begins this technique while holding a projectile in both hands. The user attempts to strike the opponent's jaw by smashing into it with their elbow, and then quickly stabbing them with a projectile in their shoulder. As the target takes a step away from the user, with the user’s elbow still blocking most of their vision, they will throw the second projectile into their other shoulder, causing -3 strength to both arms and intense pain while using them until healed.

[The Hawk • Pecking Combo]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user begins up close to their opponent. They lead with an elbow aimed for their opponent's face, but at the same time they toss a projectile at the opponent's leg. This projectile is aimed at the knee, right at the target's joint to prohibit movement. If successful the target will experience -3 speed and intense pain while moving until healed.

[The Hawk • Drilling Deeper]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user hits a projectile already inserted in the target's body. The extra force allows it to go even deeper causing pain and increasing the detrimental effect of the projectile. This will cause a -3 speed debuff in the affected part of the body. If the projectile is already causing a debuff, this technique will add -3 to that debuff instead. Can only be used once per projectile.

[The Hawk • Opening Assault]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Whether blocking with one’s arms, or a shield, there will likely be small gaps in one’s defense. When dealing with swords or fists, these types of blocks will do the trick, but projectiles are much smaller and can easily exploit these openings. The user is able to abuse openings in an opponent’s guard very easily in close quarters combat through the user of projectiles. It is very hard to block the user’s attacks if they can make out where these openings are.

[The Hawk • Trained Talons]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
The user can seamlessly grab and toss projectiles in the midst of any of their taijutsu combos.

[The Hawk • Close Quarters]
B-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Regardless of how restricted the user’s movement is, as long as they can move their hand, wrist, arm, or fingers in some way, they can throw projectiles with full force and accuracy.
PredatorShow
The Predator:
The Predator is a fighting style developed by Zakuro Gerudo. This style specializes in ranged attacks, focusing on overwhelming opponents with hard to dodge projectiles, and utilizing heightened senses to increase combat capabilities.
Requires:
  • [Perception] Concentration
  • [Projectile Weapons] Concentration
  • [Medicine] Concentration
[The Predator • Sniff Test]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The user is capable of smelling poisons within any food or drink given to them, unless the poison is specifically designed to be undetectable.

[The Predator • Unburdened Grasp]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The user has learned to hold multiple projectiles in each hand while still maintaining the ability to punch, climb, block, ect. just as effectively as being empty handed.

[The Predator • Blinding Blades]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
As long as there is a bright light source in the area, the user is capable of throwing projectiles in a way that reflects the light into the eyes of their target. This can cause temporary blindness and can cause the target to get hit easier by projectiles.

[The Predator • Piercing Shot]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The user launches a projectile at full force, allowing it to pierce through solid objects. Through this technique, the user can pierce 1 inch of solid stone, concrete, wood, flesh, and bone per every 2 points of strength. They can pierce through a half inch of metal for every 2 points of strength.

[The Predator • Ranger’s Skillset]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The user is capable of throwing a tremendous number of projectiles in quick succession without and decreases in accuracy or power, even while on the move.

[The Predator • Benefits of Study]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The user’s skill with projectiles allows the user to better detect the path that a projectile will take, just by looking at the throwing arm of the thrower.

[The Predator • Untraceable Shot]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The user twists their wrist as they throw a projectile, causing it to spin rapidly. This spin will make the projectile move up and down or back and forth like a wave. This makes it incredibly hard to follow with one’s eyes, requiring a perception technique of equal or higher rank.

[The Predator • Tracker]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The user has an incredibly sharp nose, allowing them to follow a scent trail as long as they know who they’re looking for.

[The Predator • So Predictable]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The user is extremely good at tracking targets. They are capable of watching each step and movement of their opponent, even in the middle of combat. This allows them to detect where the target is most likely to go, or dodge to. Targets can dodge the user’s throws if they can outspeed the projectile or have an evasion tech of a higher rank.

C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The user throws their projectile at a solid object, and angles it a certain way so that it bounces off. The user can estimate the trajectory to bounce off of multiple objects after it is thrown to achieve impossible angles. Each bounce lowers the strength and speed of the projectile by 1.
