Gotō, Kazushige
‘Kaz’

“Bring it!”

General Information Age: 12
Gender: Male
Height: 4’7”
Weight: 87 lbs
Physical Features: Kazushige is an athletically built young man with proportions suited to his stature. Neither short nor tall in the traditional sense, he is considered average for his grouping. With sun kissed skin that leans toward the darker of hues. This in turn leads the little definition in his muscles to become more pronounced when beating sweat during exertion. Despite the rigorous training provided by the ‘Shinobi Academy’, Kazushige has managed to graduate with minimal scarring to his person. Aside from the occasional bruising and splinters from weapons training there is nothing of note.
An expressive face has landed the boy in trouble on multiple occasions. An average neckline builds upward from a well-defined collar; with subtle rivets denoting a collarbone and a budding adam’s apple. These prominent details taper beneath an angular jawline, betraying the boys youthful years in a beguiling fashion. Effortlessly smooth to the touch, Kazushige skin glows a radiant darkness to it, evenly polished and not a speck of facial hair. Full lips which tilt pervasively one sided when amused outline rows of crisp white teeth, in stark contrast to the surrounding dark skin. Perhaps the only notable feature to the boy’s face would be the indent that curves his nose in a characteristic manner. A token given to him by a fellow classmate during one of many ‘Shinobi Academy’ Kumite sparring sessions.
Much like his own personality Kazushige is wide eyed and full of optimism, thus his eyes are in a constant state of enthusiastic glare. Rich onyx pupils pool outward to a sea of clear white, breathing life to tailored lashes and a brow with sharp points. A product of overbearing parents the boy takes great pride in his appearance and diligently pursues proper grooming habits. Though the full scope of his chosen hairstyle may seem unkempt, it is assuredly maintained. Shaggy folds of darkened locks trail onward before cutting abruptly at the ends of his ears.
Clothing/Accessories: Kazushige attire can be summed up in one word, practical. Coming from a family of Shinobi he has had a literal lifetime worth of observing those closest to him on how they dress when on duty and while enjoying leisure time. He can routinely be seen about the town in simple pocketless darkened navy blue trousers that cut off at the seams before reaching his ankles. For footwear Kazushige opts for grey thonged sandals with white cushioned soles. Keeping with the theme of simplicity, the boy dawns a matching long sleeved tunic also darkened navy blue in color. There are no intricate designs woven into the fabrics of his ensemble and the tunics own collar rises and fits snuggly around Kazushige neck. Lastly when taking a stroll in this outfit the boy clips on a smaller version of the standard issue hip-pouch to his back right side.
Since graduating from the ‘Shinobi Academy’ Kazushige has followed in his family tradition. Every Gotō upon their graduation is given a modified standard flak jacket. The difference between the two, aside from the physical is virtually zero. The modified version does not add any more protection than the standard and is purely a cosmetic change. That being said Kazushige wears the solid green jacket fully zipped and fastened securely. With three scroll pouches on each side of the chest, a raised neck guard that hugs the chin, and extra padding over the shoulders (which is fastened on by steel buttons). The protective vest offers significant resistance against blunt force trauma. The only modification to this issued flak jacket is a ceremonial hand print dipped in lavender dye that is placed across the left breast plate and can be clearly visible when facing forward.
Aside from this Kazushige does not deviate much from what he wears regularly when off duty. Matching pair of trousers and a tunic both darkened navy blue in color. The pants themselves are pocketless and beneath the tunic one can make out the etching of a thin layer of chainmail as well. Switching out his thonged sandals for a more logical choice Kazushige is fitted with the standard issue ‘Shinobi Boots’. The footwear boasts multiple straps and harnesses which protect the ankles and lower shin from damage. Most Gotō family members also are avid admirers of the open toe design and as such Kazushige has also followed suit in this regard. As far as accessories are concerned the boy has a small survival hip pouch (7.87" high/4.15" wide) attached to his lower back right side. Also a navy blue leather holster strapped with grey clothed bandages fastened on his right thigh for shuriken. Lastly and perhaps his most prized possession Kazushige fastens the standard issued forehead protector with the Konohagakure no Sato leaf symbol emblazoned on it squarely on his forehead. The metal gleams through his shaggy black hair as bangs partially obscure it. A simple yet elegant darkened navy blue cloth secures the headband with a bundle knotted at the back of his head protruding outward slightly visible.
Personality: Kazushige has a naturally calm temperament; no doubt a byproduct from the years of grooming by his family. At his core the boy wishes nothing more of life than any other person, a sense of purpose, a guiding principle to latch himself onto. In that sense Kazushige has a strong moral compass, able to see right from wrong and the injustices of the world. Although at times due to his youth and inexperience matters do seem a bit cut and dry or black and white; when so often they are more layered, nuanced. Highly opinionated Kazushige will not hesitate in sharing his thoughts on any given circumstance be they warranted or otherwise. Kind hearted and easy going, he is quick to make new friends and relishes in all of the experiences new opportunities have to offer. However there have been examples by which Kazushige has been taken advantage of for his forgiving and even keeled persona. These instances have embedded within the boy a deep seeded fear that he maybe taken advantage of in the future. He has a high admiration for those who serve in protecting their home and village. In his eyes there is no greater calling than being a ‘Shinobi. The ‘Will of Fire’ burns bright within Kazushige. Growing up in a large family has afforded him a degree of emotional intelligence. He is warm towards even those who have slighted him in the past, able to see the best in people. Kazushige is routinely called upon to play mediator for disputes between his younger cousins and family members.
During training exercises at the ‘Shinobi Academy’ Kazushige was not known to be the most proficient at any particular skill set. Rather the boy displayed a fascination and wonder for all practical applications of Ninja Arts. With that in mind he approaches all combat scenarios firstly by intelligence gathering. From that point Kazushige likes to take his time in thinking up strategy on how best to tackle a problem. He is not impulsive in this regard and being surrounded by military family he knows the cost all too well of rash decision making. When confronting an opponent Kazushige implements a wide range of skill sets, opting rather to have a myriad of options at his disposal to choose from. Considered a jack of all trades with no special skill set. This carries with it its own risks as being average and even can hurt against more specialized opponents. Learning to adjust to these realities in combat will be the greatest test for Kazushige in the future.

Basic JutsuShow
E-Rank Basic JutsuShow
*[Basic Jutsu • Clone Technique]
E-Ranked Ninjutsu
After completing a set of handseals, the user forms a slight chakra 'body', thus creating a single, massless clone. The clone created from this technique is very basic and will dissipate when hit with anything. These clones do not possess vital signs or a unique chakra signature, meaning they don't disrupt the environment, and anything on their person is superficial. The clone has 1 in each stat. They are limited to basic movements.

*[Basic Jutsu • Transformation Technique]
E-Ranked Ninjutsu
After completing the needed handseals, the user of this technique will be able to alter their physical appearance to match that of another person. By consistently emitting chakra throughout their body, the user is able to keep their appearance adjusted at the cost of their stamina draining over time. As this technique is quite strenuous to uphold, experienced shinobi may see more clearly through this delusive disguise. This technique lasts for a number of posts equal to that of the user's stamina.

*[Basic Jutsu • Chakra Kai]
E-Ranked Ninjutsu
A jutsu used with the purpose of activating seals and a range of devices and weapons, this technique begins with a single handseal. Once this has been performed, the user will focus a dollop of their chakra into what they are looking to activate in order to complete the task. Seals activated with this technique must be within 20 + (Control/2) meters of the user's position.
D-Rank Basic JutsuShow
*[Basic Jutsu • Act of Tree Climbing]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
By focusing chakra into his/her feet, the user is able to walk up trees and other vertical surfaces in a similar fashion to walking along the ground. This chakra amount must be precise, and although all shinobi learn this technique, the user's control stat will determine how well this jutsu can be executed. Users with low control 2 or lower will often fall during the use of this technique, while users with average control 3 or higher will be able to use this technique functionally. It lasts for a number of posts equal to the user's stamina stat times 3.

*[Basic Jutsu • Act of Water Surface Walking]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
A variation of the Act of Tree Climbing technique, this jutsu requires the user to focus a precise and balanced amount of charka into the soles of his/her feet. By doing so, the user is able to walk on the surface of water as though it were a solid surface. Users with low control 2 or lower are much more likely to fall through the surface of the water, while users with average control 3 or higher will be able to use this technique functionally. It lasts for a number of posts equal to the user's stamina stat times 3.

*[Basic Jutsu • Kai Release]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
A rather simple technique that allows the user to escape from a genjutsu. The stat requirements for this technique can be found in the genjutsu rules.

*[Basic Jutsu • Change of Body Stance Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After completing the necessary handseals, the user is able to quickly substitute his/her body with a nearby object that is at least 2/3rds his/her size, but no bigger than their body. This substitution allows the object to take the force of the attack that was meant for the user, additionally allowing the user to create distance between him/her and the opponent. The object used in this jutsu may not be objects that are imbued with chakra or controlled by it, and they may also only be single, solid objects within a 20 yard radius of the user. This technique may only be used a total of one time in a single thread, give or take how many times Shunshin no Jutsu has already been used.
NinjutsuShow
D-Rank Ninja TechniquesShow
*[Ninjutsu • Hidden Needles]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will focus chakra into their mouths and into up to five senbon within 3 feet of their position. The senbon will be summoned from their persons or nearby into the user's mouth, where they will be spit out aided by chakra at a speed of 6 and strength of 4. The senbon can be shot up to 7 meters away.

*[Ninjutsu • Chakra Burst]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After channeling chakra into one of their fists, the user will then attempt to strike their target and if successful, they will release additional concussive force in the form of an outward explosion at D-Rank force from their fist. If the user does not strike a target within 3 posts the jutsu dissipates.

*[Ninjutsu • Tracking Device]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will coat one of their hairs in chakra. Once this has been done, they will place it on their target. The user can track the exact location of the strand of hair for up to 7 meters. For up to twenty meters out, the user can track a rough location. From then out to 100 meters, the user just gets a general idea of where the opponent is. The chakra in the hair will dissipate at the end of 6 posts.

*[Ninjutsu • Wall]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user causes a thin 3x3 meter flat barrier to form directly in front of them at a speed of 5. This barrier can take a hit of up to 5 strength before shattering, otherwise it lasts for 3 posts.

*[Ninjutsu • Sensory Deprivation: Sight]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
A technique used for a variety of purposes, each unique to the user's needs, the user channels chakra over their eyes. This chakra will act as though it were solid, rendering the user blind until it is dispelled. This can be held as long as the user has chakra, but once it has ended, it has a cool-down period of 2 posts before it can be used again.

[Taijutsu • Combat Stance]
Type Stance
D-Ranked Taijutsu
When engaging an opponent it is important to have solid footing. In this regard the user of this technique begins by placing their feet shoulder length apart. Once steading themselves they will then draw back their primary foot (be it right or left) behind themselves at one and a half shoulder width apart. This is considered a typical foot placement and adds greater support both defensively and offensively. The practitioner of this technique can thus greatly assess an assailant’s motive and has a higher degree of probability to either dodge, counter, or simply go on the offensive. The information gleaned from this stance is directly correlated and tied to the instinct stat of the user and should in turn reflect accurately its rate of success.

[Taijutsu • Forearm Block]
D-Ranked Taijutsu
Prerequisite: [Taijutsu • Combat Stance]
Type Discipline
Once fully immersed in close quarters combat it is imperative for one to firstly protect themselves from incoming attacks. After taking a proper [Taijutsu • Combat Stance] the user of this technique is able to generally assess a given sequence of movements from an enemy to some level of proficiency. Factoring in variable degrees of skill the user is capable of blocking most (not all) direct strikes to their person. For the most part this block is primarily used against straight punches to the face. Whilst aiming to meet the inside of the forearm of an attacker, the user will reach out with the backside of their own forearm and simultaneously push the punch outward. Leaving the opponents facing each other which also helps in leading to a counterattack. The resistance exerted by this block is tied to the strength stat of the user and should in turn reflect accurately its rate of success.

[Taijutsu • Feint]
D-Ranked Taijutsu
Prerequisite: [Taijutsu • Combat Stance][Taijutsu • Forearm Block]
Type Maneuver
In the simplest of terminology this technique is a deceptive or pretended blow, thrust, or other alarming shift geared toward an opponent. Hoping to gain ground typically during a scuffle, the user will make a sudden distracting advance. Be it a fake punch or jolt of sporadic movement. The ultimate purpose of this technique is to open up an enemy. By first lulling them into a false sense of security; once that is successful the enemy will be susceptible to an actual attack, greatly increase the odds of said attack being successful. The swiftness demonstrated by this feint is tied to the speed stat of the user and should in turn reflect accurately its rate of success.

[Taijutsu • Foot Sweep]
D-Ranked Taijutsu
Prerequisite: [Taijutsu • Combat Stance][Taijutsu • Forearm Block][Taijutsu • Feint]
Type Maneuver
An often glossed over technique that when implemented correctly could lead to devastating effect. Commonly used to trip an opponent the [Taijutsu • Foot Sweep] involves dropping to a lower position, whilst spinning and sweeping at one or two legs from under an enemy. However it is true that this particular technique is not used very often in actual combat; simply due to the fact that it exposes too many vulnerable areas to attack. Nonetheless it is still a technique worth having. The fluid motion of this foot sweep is tied to the speed stat of the user and should in turn reflect accurately its rate of success.

[Taijutsu • Form 1 Combo/Counterpunch]
D-Ranked Taijutsu
Prerequisite: *[Taijutsu • Combat Stance][Taijutsu • Forearm Block][Taijutsu • Feint][Taijutsu • Foot Sweep]
Type Maneuver
The culmination of steadfast training, the user of this particularly technique draws upon the building blocks of varying other skills. In short a counterpunch is essentially a punch that immediately follows an attack launched by an opponent. It exploits the opening created in an opponent's guard. Both tactical and defensively sound this maneuver relies on a given opponents mistakes in order to gain an attacking advantage. Maintaining a solid [Taijutsu • Combat Stance] the user will attempt to avoid or block shots often relying on [Taijutsu • Forearm Block] in order to place well-timed punches on opponents who have lost their guard. Practitioners of this combo must effectively be able to also [Taijutsu • Feint] and conceal their offensive strikes in order to land complex maneuvers such as [Taijutsu • Foot Sweep]. The effectiveness of this combo is directly tied to the overall stats of the user in question. Mainly drawing on several categories (Taijutsu, Stamina, Strength, Speed, Instinct) and should in turn reflect accurately its rate of success.

GenjutsuShow
D-Rank Illusionary TechniquesShow
*[Genjutsu • When Pigs Fly]
D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
A rather simple genjutsu that is put into place when the user says a statement ending in "When Pigs Fly". Seconds later, anyone who hears the user say that will see several pigs with full hawk wings fly past, just a few feet above the user and the victim’s head, serving as a somewhat confusing distraction.

*[Genjutsu • Pins and Needles]
D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
After performing the hand seals and pricking the opponent with some sort of small weapon (usually senbon), the opponent feels their arms and legs fall asleep. It feels as if the blood flow to these appendages has basically stopped, making their movements a tad sluggish and just all around uncomfortable. This jutsu doesn’t really hinder a person, but it makes everything they do feel off. For those who are attuned to the way their body feels during battle, it can be extremely distracting. Lasts 3 posts.

*[Genjutsu • Smell Of The Deceased]
D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
After performing the necessary hand seals, any victim that sees the user preforming the hand seals will be induced under the genjutsu. This causes the target to begin to smell rotting flesh and decaying bodies. The jutsu can cause nausea and vomiting from the target, depending on how sensitive their sense of smell is. The smell of the dead can also cause some mental stress on the target. This genjutsu lasts for three (3) posts.

*[Genjutsu • Paranoid]
D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
The user will do a series of hand seals, then point indiscriminately. Should the target see the pointing motion, they'll be captured in this genjutsu. For the following 4 posts, the target will see a shadow in the corner of their eyes, constantly shifting out of view when they attempt to look at it.

*[Genjutsu • Boom!]
D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
The user will do a series of hand seals, then within the next post, snap their fingers. Anyone who hears the snapping will hear an explosion in the distance behind them. This works as an effective distraction, or a scare tactic, if properly utilized.

History
Seed (Pre-Academy Ages 0-6)Show
Born during the famed Awai ‘Paper Lantern Festival’ just as the midnight release of the lanterns took place; Kazushige was welcomed into a world of light and love, just like many other children that night in Konohagakure no Sato. Unfortunately the light and joy of the evening would abruptly be undercut by the news that the matriarch of the Gotō family, Sakura had passed just moments prior, in the same hospital no less. The Gotō family themselves were a rare breed, with over 30 members currently active in service to Konohagakure no Sato as ‘Shinobi’ at the time of Kazushige birth. They were no strangers to death and welcomed the news with smiles and cheers. Sakura had lived to see her great grandchildren and her health was deteriorating; so there was no cause for bouts of tears; only the peace and serenity an end can provide. The Gotō family didn’t have much by way of possessions or acclaim. Those that served were not lauded after as the next to become Hokage. They did not have some special hidden technique to pass down generation to generation. And yet they took pride in their family and what truly mattered; Konohagakure no Sato. Avid followers of ‘The Will of Fire’, Kazushige parents Saito and Temari drilled into the boy from the very first seconds of life the importance of family; as his siblings, Anko, Shin, and Yūgao surrounded their new baby brother.
A young couple Saito and Temari are both Shinobi, with Saito working in record keeping with a primary focus on training messenger birds. Temari when not nursing her children was routinely assigned to the outskirts of the village as boarder control. Anko the eldest child (12) had recently been assigned a Genin team and was actually on leave when her mother went into labor. She would begin her team assignments the very next day. Shin (9) the middle child had always felt neglected by his parents and would routinely lash out for attention. However even his sour mood could not dampen the momentous day. Entering his third year at the ‘Shinobi Academy’ of all his siblings Shin was considered to be the most troublesome thus far. Yūga (6), the darling princess always cheerful and seemingly forever on the cusp of laughter; she would be attending her first day at the ‘Shinobi Academy’ tomorrow. This was the world in which Kazushige was born into; one filled with light and love.
Sprout (Shinobi Academy Ages 6-12)Show
The day had finally arrived; Kazushige could hardly contain his excitement. Sprinting pass the other children making his way through the crowd, leaving his father Saito behind as he took one final glance at the approving smile, the school doors shut behind him. For the boy this is what he had been looking forward to for as far back as he could remember. Just last week he was at the courtyard while his older sister Yūga (12) graduated the ‘Shinobi Academy’. The month prior he had sat in the stands during the Chuunin Exams for Shin (15). Though it had been years since he saw Anko (18), her assignments with mother left both of them with little time for family. Yet he was sure that Anko would have more amazing stories to share since becoming a ‘Special Jounin’.
Kazushige would have a tough time adjusting to the ‘Shinobi Academy’ at first. Unsurprisingly much of the advice his older siblings and family members gave him were littered with their own experiences and didn’t really help him navigate his own studies or personal issues. Subsequently the first year was a blur for him. With cousins who went to the academy as well and a larg family waiting at home; naturally it was difficult to separate himself from the pack so to speak. His only respite was the fact that non of his family or cousins shared any classes with him thankfully. Being around such large crowds of people at home made Kazushige accustomed to small talk and mingling with all sorts of individual personalities; however for that first year at the academy he simply wanted to be left alone to his studies. It was not until the third year about age 9 when Kazushige came into his own. The boy blossomed, suddenly he was making a new friend every day at the academy, much more outgoing than his siblings he more so resembled Anko in that respects, personality wise. Yet his physical appearance was much closer to the rude a brash Shin who had garnered a reputation as a bully at the school. At first this off put many of the younger classmates who were victims of Shin’s formative years. Lucky Kazushige was such a charismatic young man he made friends of most these children like him.
Academically Kazushige was average at best. Many of his teachers would explain to Saito that the boy showed promise; but it seemed as if he naturally split his time. Attempting to collect a broad understanding and efficiency of each subject rather than hone in on one exclusively. This was no cause for concern however as Kazushige was a diligent student and would involve himself in all sorts of volunteer work around the academy as well. For the most part the boys time at the academy was filled with happy memories and the forging of lasting friendships with his classmates. Still you can’t make friends with everyone and Kazushige had a stern rival, she was the meanest girl around and left the boy with a token of her esteem during a sparring session in which she left his nose broken in one place.
Sapling (Graduation Current Timeline Age 12)Show
Nearing the final chapter of his time within the ‘Shinobi Academy’; Kazushige had built a reputation as an honest, kind hearted and charismatic young man. Even within the Gotō family whispers of the boys deeds around the school yard were well known. Always willing to aid those in need, never thinking too highly of himself and keeping a level head even when it would be just as easy to succumb to emotion. His final year grazed over Kazushige like a dream. Because it had been several years since Anko (24) now a decorated Jounin had left the village on assignment searching for Shin (21) who himself had mysteriously been confirmed as KIA (killed in action) with the remaining of his Special Jounin team. Despite the fact that his body was the only one not officially recovered. These circumstances strengthened the bonds between the remaining Gotō family members. Saito announced his retirement with full honors months prior to the graduation ceremony. Committed to serving out his term as advisor to the cryptology department till his 49th birthday. Temari (47) focused on restoring many of the old safe houses along the borders of the village. Though it would of course be beneficial to all returning Shinobi to have those accommodations prepared. The chore itself felt too closely related to Shin and in some strange hope that her boy would still find his way home. Yūga (18) was lost in all of this mess. Her gently nurturing spirit was slowly beginning to revel the cracks of worn down emotions. A missing brother, a haunted mother, a father too battle worn and a vengeful sister. Her only solace was Kazushige. She doted on her younger brother, determined not to allow him to feel the hurt she was enduring.
The day had arrived; graduation from the ‘Shinobi Academy’ was a celebration in and of itself. However to the Gotō it was a CELEBRATION! The day lifted Kazushige as he was surrounded by family and friends. A much needed reprieve from all the happenings internally to his immediate family. His mother Temari even made the day as he would get glances of her smiling and holding onto Saito as Yūga entertained the guests. In that moment just like the day he was ushered into the world he was surrounded by light and love.
