General Information Age: 20
Gender: Male
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: His hair is a dark brown, nearly black, messy and shaggy, the longest length is about five inches. His eyes are also brown, clearly once kind, but now carry what some might call a sadness, others a darkness, and even more a hopelessness.
  • Body: Being a man focused on physical strength and prowess, Arata is well muscled, particularly in his core, chest and arms. His torso is littered with scars from various fights and missions, as well as his rigorous training regimens that he puts himself through. He measures at about six-foot-five with a weight of roughly two hundred pounds.
  • Notable Features: He has a tattoo of an oriental dragon extending down his left shoulder and encircling his arm to his elbow. He also has a tattoo of an oriental style tiger down his right shoulder to his elbow.
Clothing/Accessories: Arata wears a simple pair of black pants and boots, along with a black kimono shirt with white border and a sash at the waist to keep it tied together. He wears no jewelry of any kind. Also, rather than wearing a standard forehead protector, he wears his village symbol sewn into the back of his kimono shirt.

Personality:
  • General: Arata was once a man of many smiles and much happiness, resulting in the laughlines still being present on his face. But while he was once a man devout not just to his village but his Kazekage was as a god in his eyes. He was loyal to a fault, a protector, finding that disobeying or failing in any little thing was an act of disbelief. These days is rather a serious type and even depressing sort some days with a love of smoking and drinking, ever since losing what was most precious to him. His little sister. He is now devoted to his own strength, a man with no faith and a loyalty only to his village as he searches for a reason to believe again, something he truly thinks he will never find. As a man with no faith he has become reckless and rash, fighting like a man with nothing to lose.
  • Hopes/Dreams: Arata has no hopes and dreams as he views anything he had of value to be gone with the death of his sister.
  • Fears: His greatest fear has already come to bear, in the loss of his sister, the repercussions of which he’s still dealing with.
  • Combat Mentality: Arata is the sort to get in his enemy’s face. He’s rash and reckless, fighting like a man with nothing to lose and determined to drop his enemy at any cost.

Abilities and Concentrations
Abilities
First AbilitySupposedly blessed, or cursed depending on the point of view, by a spirit of darkness in the form of a coyote Arata has gained a transformation ability. When he transforms he appears similar to the myth of a werewolf. His flesh will darken, and his eyes will turn completely silver. The fingers of his hands seem to lengthen with a sound akin to breaking bones and talons lengthen from the nails to a length of three inches. The complete muscle structure of the arms and shoulders will seem to have doubled, changing. The muscles of the legs will also seem to have doubled, changing, as their feet lengthen. Fur has grown all over the body and the teeth have lengthened into sharpened spikes like a canine's. His facial structure changes, reflecting that of a wolf now complete with maw, ears, and fur. He looks entirely like a wolf standing upright now with black fur and silver eyes.
This form comes with no buffs but a temporary doujutsu as part of his silver eyes. This temporary doujutsu is only available in this transformed state and allows Arata the ability to see at night, equal to having modern day night vision and able to see out sixty meters.
Triggering this transformation is the equivalent of using an A Rank Ninjutsu.

History
The story of Fujitsuna Arata began happy enough. He was born the son of a samurai type shinobi and a woman who worked in a restaurant within Suna. To this couple was born Arata and his sister, Akemi. Though they were not twins, they were separated by only one year and were near inseparable to the point where many often confused them for twins, if only because they were so close to one another. The pair went through the academy together and passed not only with one another’s aid, but they personally were overly fond of playing pranks on their instructor from time to time, much to his dismay.

As genin they were placed on separate teams which put the pair in an awkward position. They had trained together for so long that they perfectly complimented one another. Arata was the tank, the hard hitter and a samurai much like his father, while his sister was the medic and ninjutsu specialist of the pair. But for their time as genin they would have to adjust to the fact that they weren’t on the same team though the pair were still often seen training together. It was during this time that their mother passed away of an illness, taken from them early but both children vowed not to let her death dismay them. Their mother had lived a full and happy life and, in their minds, by the grace of the Sun and the Kazekage had born the both of them as possible blessings on the world. They did everything they could to help their father see things the same way, and yet a year later the two were planning their father’s funeral. How he died no one knew, he was no coward, nor was he murdered, the doctor claimed the man must have been too heartbroken to continue on without his wife.

This last loss was harder, watching their father fall weak and to death but the two were strong together and determined. Not long later the pair had to take their chunin exams separately and both passed, but it was as a chunin that tragedy truly struck Arata. As chunin the pair took on a mission together, their first, and their last. What was meant to be an easy hunt for the pair, taking down an unfaithful, aka a missing ninja of their village, turned into a trap. The pair was ambushed and while Arata managed to wipe out their enemy, a task that would lead to his later promotion again, his sister died in his arms and she did not die easily. He held her in her final hours, unable to do anything to save her and with no talent in the healing arts himself, he found himself helpless as he held her and watched her go.

Ever since Akemi’s death, Arata has felt as if he has lost more than the last of his family, he has lost his faith. He feels as if he is in a crisis, not understanding why their gods would allow this to happen, not understanding why his little sister had to die in such a way. For a time he walked the world with only his loyalty to his village, and his sister’s memory, to keep him in place. He smokes an incredible amount of weed, his source supposedly a closely guarded secret, and is often at least halfway to drunk (stocking up during the annual festival and somehow managing to keep that source a secret as well). He was often in trouble, and not a stranger to remedial training or lock up as a result of his antics.

But it all began to change the day he met a girl named Kiyori. He was sent on a mission as part of a rescue team to find her on her return to Suna, but found himself trapped within the same ruin she was. It was in this ruin that he fought to protect her, nearly at the cost of his own life on more than one occasion. It was also during this time that he was given a new purpose as her guardian. As Kiyori was ‘blessed’ by the ruins, which turned out to be an ancient temple, he was ‘blessed’ by the spirit guarding the temple. It was an act that resulted in Arata gaining the ability to transform into a fearsome canine humanoid. Through the spirit’s gift Arata has found a purpose in protecting Kiyori, and even to fall in love with the girl.

As Kiyori rose in power within the village, so did Arata. When she led the Scribes, she chose Arata to lead a darker chapter of the scribes, a black ops organization. Though the man hated the idea, and never wanted to work in such a way, just as Kiyori had the gift of Light he accepted his gift of Darkness and his new role as a favor to the woman he loves. As Kiyori has now risen to the role of Kazekage, he has risen to Jounin and looks to break this darker sector of scribes into it's own organization under the direct guidance of the Kazekage and himself.
Jutsu
Shinden KenjutsuShow
Emerging from the depths of the Marsh Country, Shinden is a style of Kenjutsu that focuses on one thing and one thing alone: overwhelming strength. While not completely forsaking flexibility, Shinden techniques are traditionally structured around downward slashes. The user lifts their weapon over their shoulder or above their head, both their strength and gravity bringing death crashing down onto their enemies. Due to this quirk unique to Shinden, while sufficiently performed with a katana, users of this style typically prefer heavier blades such as Nodachi, Odachi, and even Zanbatou. These large weapons further enhance the natural strengths the style's core mechanics provide, forgoing defense for brute strength and overwhelming power.

Requires: [Rigid Structure] Concentration; [Sword Weapons], [Polearm Weapons], or [Hafted Weapons] Concentrations.
D Rank:
*[Shinden • Swaying Peltandra]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The use of larger swords and hafted weapons often makes close-quarters maneuvering of the practitioner's weapon more difficult. By placing one hand on the pommel/butt of the hilt or low section of the weapon's haft, the user is able to more easily maneuver, twist, slide, and flip their weapon in close quarters to cover a wider range of offensive and defensive options, using the second hand to give full power to their attacks and techniques. This Discipline represents the practitioner's mastery of this basic concept, allowing them to lessen the impact of their weapon's natural blind spots and weaknesses.

*[Shinden • Swaying Cattail]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite(s): 8 Strength.
A practitioner of Shinden must be able to control their weapon as easily as their own breath. This Discipline represents the practitioner's capacity to both change the orientation of their weapon to cover a different part of their body while spinning said weapon and to immediately change the direction said weapon is spinning without loss of defensive or offensive momentum.

*[Shinden • Stream Splitting]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
A simple setup technique, the practitioner quickly and continuously spins their weapon in their hands, capable of switching their weapon between each hand if they wish. This technique can serve as a defense against projectiles and attacks, but its primary purpose is to set up the practitioner for their next attack or technique. Any attack or technique used after the practitioner uses this technique will be instantly launched at the practitioner's maximum Strength and Speed.

*[Shinden • Branch Cleaver]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
One of Shinden's most basic offensive techniques, the practitioner raises their weapon over their head, using gravity and inertia to add momentum to their next attack. The practitioner then launches a ferocious two-handed swing in any single direction. The practitioner executes the cut in a circular motion, allowing them to quickly bring the weapon back to guard against a potential counterattack.

*[Shinden • Grass Cutter]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 8 Strength, 8 Speed.
A simple yet devastating technique, the practitioner executes a powerful thrust towards the opponent. At the end of the thrust, or just as the blade is making contact with the opponent if it hits, the practitioner violently rotates the blade in any single direction and finishes the technique with a slash in the direction the sword was twisted. This additional rotation and slash at the end can further damage opponents or catch an opponent that has evaded the original thrust by strafing to either side, ducking, or jumping.
C Rank:
*[Shinden • Toad Skin]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Shinden users understand that the size of their weapons cause naturally occurring blind spots and have trained to shore up those weaknesses in their defense. This Discipline represents the practitioner's ability to more finely control the natural blind spots of their weapons, passively strengthening their defenses and even allowing the practitioner to bait ignorant opponents into traps. This Discipline also allows the practitioner to easily wield their preferred two-handed weapon with one hand, if applicable.

*[Shinden • Snapping Turtle]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Charging at the opponent, the practitioner grips the weapon's hilt or haft with one hand and rests their other hand on the pommel or butt of the haft or hilt with the other. As they drive their weapon forward in a thrust, the practitioner quickly torques the muscles in their forearm, wrist, and hand on the pommel/butt of the weapon and spin the weapon in their hand like a drill, greatly increasing the penetrative power of the thrust as they drive it into the opponent's guard and, hopefully, through their bodies. If the practitioner's Strength is 5 higher than the opponent's Endurance, this technique will cause hairline fractures, localized inflammation, and minor internal bleeding.

*[Shinden • Leaping Toad]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): *[Shinden • Stream Splitting].
Taking to the sky, the practitioner jumps off of the ground, engaging their weapon in a ferocious spin. The practitioner can choose to complete this technique in one of three ways: a powerful diving swing or thrust, a somersaulting overhead strike, or a midair dodge by swinging the weapon in any single direction and allowing the momentum generated by the weight of the weapon and the swing to carry them in that direction. Due to the sheer momentum of this technique, if the practitioner's Strength is higher than the opponent's Endurance, any armor or weapon used to defend against this technique will be rendered ineffective, either by being rent from the opponent's hand or broken outright. This technique is not as effective when performed with a normal sword or katana.

*[Shinden • Toad Lash]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Strength, 15 Speed.
The practitioner will momentarily dig the tip of their weapon into the ground, quickly build a large amount of tension in their muscles. The practitioner will then release the tension into a wide, sweeping cut in any single direction, curving away from the ground to avoid lodging their weapon into the ground if choosing an overhead swing. If the practitioner's Strength is 5 higher than the opponent's Endurance, this technique will knock the opponent up or away a number of meters equal to the practitioner's Strength in addition to the damage normally taken from this technique. The practitioner can immediately transition into a defensive weapon spin to shore up openings after the technique if they wish.
Iaido KenjutsuShow
Iaido Kenjutsu:
The samurai of the Land of Tea have produced a unique style of Kenjutsu called Iaido. Unlike other styles, which rely on the sword being drawn to attack, a practitioner of Iaido is always ready to attack their opponents, even when their weapon is sheathed in its scabbard. Known as a "sword drawing" technique, Iaido uses the smooth, linear motion of pulling the sword from its sheath to create abnormally fast slashes and strikes against often ignorant and unsuspecting opponents. Though the katana is preferred for this style, any curved sword single-edged sword with a complimenting scabbard is compatible with this style. Their ability to fight with both traditional swordplay and hand-to-hand combat while perfectly capable of switching to quick slashes and stabs using Iaido's hallmark techniques makes practitioners of this style unpredictable fighters.

Requires: [Sword Weapons], [Perception] Concentrations.
D Rank:
*[Iaido • Ancestral Focus]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The hallmark of Iaido is its practitioners abilities to launch an attack even when their swords are sheathed. This Discipline represents the practitioner's capacity to consistently execute a sword draw and slash all in one movement by gripping the edge of the scabbard and pulling the scabbard slightly forward before drawing the sword. This Discipline enables the practitioner to immediately draw their sword and attack at the start of combat.

*[Iaido • Weapon Mastery]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Since Iaido is a style that prioritizes speed over brute strength, wise usage of the blade is paramount to the practitioner's success in the style. This Discipline represents the practitioner's knowledge of their weapon's strengths and weaknesses in combat, allowing them to use the weapon more efficiently both inside and outside of its use in Iaido techniques and avoid unnecessarily presenting their weapon's blind spots to the opponent.

**[Iaido • One with the Sheath]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite(s): 8 Speed.
The practitioner has learned how to more quickly and efficiently sheath his blades. The practitioner can now seamlessly transition from drawing their blade to slash to sheathing their blade, allowing the practitioner to sheath their sword in half the time, up to a maximum speed equal to their Speed score, for the more rapid execution of Iaido techniques.

*[Iaido • Last Breath]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The most iconic (and most basic) strike of Iaido, the practitioner quickly draws and cuts with their blade in a wide arc in one fluid motion. This simultaneous draw and attack straight from the scabbard makes Iaido well-suited for an initial surprise attack and for taking advantage of openings presented by the opponent.

*[Iaido • Clouding Eyes]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 8 Speed.
A simple technique meant to cripple the target's vision, the practitioner draws the sword from its scabbard and aims a quick slash at the eyes. This technique can be done in any single direction to either target one or both of the opponent's eyes.
C Rank:
*[Iaido • Shinigami Draw]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Losing the use of one's hand or arm in a fight can be a death sentence, but Iaido has found a simple, elegant response to this desperate situation. Using their free hand, the practitioner momentarily braces the edge of their sword against the inside of the scabbard before drawing. While it does not confer the instant acceleration benefit of its parent technique, this Discipline does allow the practitioner to use Iaido techniques at their normal speed even with only one hand.

*[Iaido • One with the Sword]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite(s): *[Iaido • One with the Sheath].
The practitioner has learned how to more quickly and efficiently sheath his blades even without the use of both hands. The practitioner can now sheath the blade just as quickly with one hand as could be done with two hands, and so long as the scabbard remains on their person, the practitioner will always have an exact knowledge of the position of their scabbard.

*[Iaido • Death’s Gate]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed.
Drawing upon the superlative speed of Iaido, the practitioner momentarily torques the muscles in their body to draw their sword from its scabbard and deliver a blindingly fast slash before sheathing their blade. Properly reading this attack requires the opponent to have a Perception technique of equal or higher rank than this technique. Otherwise, they cannot accurately read the attack and will be unlikely to completely avoid the attack, if at all.
Toryu KenjutsuShow
Toryu Kenjutsu:
Toryu, a style of Kenjutsu founded in the Land of Pebbles, melds traditional kenjutsu swordplay with subversive feints and sudden bursts of close-quarters combat, two unyielding hills crashing together to form a mountain. Toryu typically favors the use of the blade with one hand, utilizing the freedom of movement to use one's hands, joints, legs, head, and even the hilt and handle of the sword to make an already deadly style more unpredictable and more lethal. Ignorantly considered a very "unrefined" style by most practitioners of the sword, Toryu is actually one of the most difficult styles of Kenjutsu to learn and master. The very basic premise of the style revolves around the firm control and manipulation of one's own movements and body, some techniques requiring execution while using another attack as a feint or misdirection while not sacrificing strength. The style has no weapon requirements outside of a sword, but many users often prefer kodachi, wakizashi, ninjato, or even tanto, the reduced size and weight of the blades having fewer blind spots and making the user's weapon more mobile.

Requires: [Close Quarters Combat], [Sword Weapons] Concentrations.
D Rank:
*[Toryu • Skipping Stone]
D-Rank Taijutsu Stance
The signature Stance of Toryu, practitioners relax the muscles in their bodies, gaining additional flexibility in their movements in how they approach the enemy, how they retreat, how they evade attacks, and how they attack the opponent. This Stance allows the practitioner to more easily read opponent's attacks and defend against them by evading in unusual ways, such as ducking, bending around, and quickly sidestepping attacks without needlessly exposing themselves to additional attacks. This fleet-footed Stance lets the practitioner mix up their movements to confuse and misdirect the opponent, allowing them to attack lesser-known openings in the opponent's guard. It also allows the practitioner to rapidly and reflexively change the angle, position and grip of their weapon with minimal movement, allowing them multiple manners in which they can attack the opponent or defend against attacks.

*[Toryu • Ambidexterity]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
After practicing for a long amount of time with the concept of using both of their hands with equal skill, the user has developed a level of ambidexterity that allows them to utilize both hands equally and as effectively without any penalty. This extends to other methods of combat or simple everyday life as well.

*[Toryu • Cobblestone Skeleton]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
A practitioner of Toryu is capable of attacking with every part of their body, even their heads. This Discipline represents the practitioner's capacity and experience with executing palm strikes, heel strikes, knee strikes, elbow strikes, and headbutts/skull bashes just as effectively as regular punches, kicks, and sword strikes. This Discipline allows the practitioner to consistently execute these kinds of attacks while minimizing or eliminating openings in their defenses or shock/damage they would experience while using these kinds of strikes.

*[Toryu • Dust Eater]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The practitioner moves in and initiates a feint in the form of a thrust. Partway through the thrust, however, the practitioner twists their arm to the side and drops low, rotating and lashing out with a spinning low kick, attempting to sweep the opponent's feet out from under them. Opponents with an Acrobatics technique of equal or higher rank than this technique can resist the tripping effect.

*[Toryu • Falling Stone]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Moving in to launch either an unarmed attack or an attack with their blade, the practitioner will launch a simultaneous unarmed attack or weapon attack with their other hand, bringing their fist or the pommel/butt of their weapon to slam into the opponent's guard, targeting their hands or wrists. Opponents with an Acrobatics technique of equal or higher rank than this technique can resist being disarmed. Otherwise, the practitioner slams the opponent's guard aside, potentially allowing the original attack to strike the opponent directly.
