Physical Features: Yoshino is a young and stern-faced woman sporting the characteristic deep red hair of the Hizashi and steel grey eyes. She is slim but muscular, with a series of thin pale scars across her hands and forearms from years working with the sword. She has a similar scar on her left jawline and another running down across her right eye. Her hair is straight and shoulder-length, usually worn loose.
She usually wears a grey flak jacket as the standard attire of a wartime sunagakure jounin, covered with a loose-fitting cloak to protect against the desert sun, sandstorms, and heat. She wears beige trousers and combat boots, and has multiple straps, pouches, and pockets across her attire.
Personality: Yoshino is determined, confident, and proud. She is well aware of her own worth and skill, and not afraid to put it to the test in the field. She hopes to prove herself a master swordswoman of the Aresaki style and bring honour to herself and her clan. Conversely, she fears dying before her time and without achieving or leaving behind her legacy. When it comes to combat she is quick and decisive, preferring to act first and dominate combat rather than allow herself to be submissive to an enemy.

    Yoshino carries one of the near-mythical Blessed Blades of the Aresaki style, uniquely designed and forged in the heat of her own Kaenton especially for her hand. As one of the few remaining practitioners of a combat style almost lost to history, the blade is priceless and deeply personal to her. A Blessed Blade of the Aresaki style is a weapon crafted by the Hizashi clan imbued with the ability to be used with and alongside Kaenton or Katon ninjutsu. The blade allows the user to perform Aresaki style techniques by maintaining a one-handed seal with their other hand. The blade grows hotter, without any visual indicator, with each successive Aresaki technique performed in this manner, representing the growing heat and power of the desert. After using one technique the blade can deal 1st degree burns on contact, with the tier increasing by one for each successive Aresaki technique used, up to 4th degree. The temperature of the blade as it inflicts injuries results in wounds that are difficult to heal as the surrounding flesh is so damaged it cannot scab or be sewn as normal. The wounds continue bleeding painfully until healed by medical techniques, and take twice as long as normal to regenerate. Yoshino's blade is a masterwork, and in addition to the standard features of a Blessed Blade has been imbued with techniques of her own design. Upon hit, the blade sends waves of extreme temperature pulsing through the body of the target, attacking nerves and causing organs and muscles to dehydrate and atrophy over time. This results in excruciating pain throughout the targets body lasting for 3 posts even from a glancing touch, and -12 strength for the remainder of the thread. The strength debuff can be alleviated through iijutsu or by sufficiently stabilising one's internal body temperature for 3 posts, for example by immersion into ice-cold water to counteract the heat.

Kaenton has to ability to heat anything, increasing its temperature, causing burns, and introducing people to heat strokes, dehydration, and even possibly death. While Hizashi are naturally resistant to increased temperature, even they can succumb to the excessive heat of their techniques. The heat increase, and the area they can increase is determined by the rank of techniques, which means higher ranked techniques are able to create flashes of heat that can kill with ease.

Katon Affinity
A character with this concentration is able to utilize Katon, and can make and use any custom or archived jutsu that require the Katon affinity. Katon has a passive ignition effect.

Katon's effect is ignition, which means that all katon jutsu, regardless of effect, start and spread fire from their source. Once a jutsu has been performed, the fire from the jutsu spreads at 1/3rd the speed of the technique, rounded down. That means a C-rank katon jutsu that moves at 13 speed would create subsequent fires that spread at 4 speed. These secondary fires require flammable material to continuously spread, otherwise they will burn out on their own.

Additionally, the strength of burns on organic material from katon jutsu is determined by the strength stat of the individual jutsu.

A character with this concentration is able to utilize Sand, an extension composed of Fuuton and Doton, and can make and use any custom or archived jutsu that require Sand. Sand style has a grinding effect. You must be a current or former Sunagakure shinobi, and have both Fuuton and Doton to utilize this concentration.

Sand, however, is rough, and grinds in it's movement, eroding and tearing at anything it comes in contact with. This makes Sand an aggressive element that adds to it's strength when coming in contact with solid matter by breaking it down and adding it to it's mass. When Sand breaks through anything it is strong against, it adds 1/5th of the strength of that thing to it's own strength. A 30 strength Sand Wave breaking through a 10 strength Doton wall would add 2 strength to itself, having 32 strength. Against organic matter, Sand grinds against skin and wounds, catching microtears that can become irritating and worsen existing wounds. Below is a list for how Sand interacts with solid matter

A pure channeling jutsu, the Hizashi is able to channel Kaenton chakra to parts of their body, heating them up by up to 20 degrees Celsius. This jutsu has no range and can only warm up the user's body, allowing for first degree burns on contact, this jutsu lasting for the next five posts.

By performing a series of handseals, the clan member can increase the temperature of the air around them. This creates a 10 meter diameter area of heat centered on the clan member for the following seven posts. Anybody within the area will feel an intense heat that will usually cause them to perspire, feel thirst and in general make them uncomfortable.

After doing the needed hand seals, the user floods the weapon they're holding with Kaenton chakra, raising its temperature by up to 15 degrees Celsius, causing burns on sustained contact. This temperature remains for up to 5 posts or until cancelled by the user.

After channeling the user concentrates heat to their fists, causing them to heat up at which point they then punch the target, releasing the built up heat upon impact in an outwards burst causing first degree burns around the point of contact and also slightly heating up the same area.

By performing a series of handseals, the clan member can increase the temperature of the air around them. This creates a 5 meter diameter area of intense heat centered on the clan member for the following five posts, causing great discomfort to those within. Additionally those aside from the user within the area will feel an intense heat that will drain 1 endurance per post for the next two posts. This area travels with the user at a speed of [Control]. If the user moves faster than [Control] speed, the area will follow behind at the speed with which it was cast.

After performing the proper hand seals, the user releases Kaenton into a 20 meter radius around them, causing heat to disperse in the air within that area. This heat will cause a minor increase of up to 5 degrees Celsius, but its real strength is in the way the hot air behaves. The behavior of the heated vs. cold hair causes a Mirage field where everything's appearance is slightly distorted, leaving them unable to properly gauge distances or the size of people and objects unless they have a perception technique of the appropriate rank, this technique lasting for the next seven posts.

After performing the necessary handseals, the user holds out their hands and sends out a wave of compressed heat at a speed and strength equal to [Control], this wave being twenty meters wide/twenty meters tall and upon contact, not only inflicting second degree burns but also dispersing into a twenty meter area around the point of impact, causing anything with a low melting point (i;e plant life or sand) within that area to heat up to the point of causing first degree burns, but also to begin melting, in addition to causing any water not produced by jutsu to begin evaporating, the evaporation being 6 meters3 per post.

On impact the ring immediately erupts outwards and upwards as it's dancing flames form a dome with a 5 meter diameter and a 3 meter pitch. The dome is held together at [Control] strength for 4 posts before falling apart into wild flames.

After forming the necessary handseals, the user will take a deep breath before expelling a strong breath full of sand. The sand will then move over an area 10 meters around the user, creating a cloud of sand that floats for 3 posts before settling. Standing within the cloud causes skin irritation and can make it hard to see.

The user will channel for a brief moment, then throw their hand forward. From their hand a small burst of sand will form, swarming around anything directly in front of their hand. This is often used to blind and surprise opponents to make a quick escape.

The wave shoots up and travels forward at [Control] speed, enveloping anything in its path with [Control] strength, and traveling up to 25m before collapsing. The wave is only 2x2m in size, working mostly as an impromptu defense to capture projectile attacks.

The Aresaki is one of the most prevalent Kenjutsu styles to originate from Wind Country. Practitioners are those who have wielded their blade to the tone of the desert, utilizing sudden and quick strikes, followed by their ability to use Katon jutsu to quickly burn out any foe they come across. While not all fights start in the sands of the desert, most places end up as a desert after a practitioner is done with it. While the style was invented by those with the Kaenton element, it has been filtered out and replaced by the Katon element.

By channeling chakra into their blade, the user causes their blade to burst with a veil of fire. The veil can be as thin as a few millimetres, or can coat and extend from the whole weapon changing it to two handed sword up to twice its original size, increasing its reach and range. The fire causes burns according to the katon burn table based on [control] and lasts for 4 posts unless dissipated by other means.

By channeling chakra into their blade, the user causes their blade to become superheated with a hidden vein of kaenton. This does not change the appearance of the sword at all, making it impossible to tell that the weapon is hot unless it comes in to contact with something. The superheated sword can inflict burns according to the kaenton burn table based on [control] and lasts for 4 posts unless dissipated by other means.

With a swift swing of their blade, the user causes the fire grasping the blade to fly off at a speed equal to the user's strength. The fire hits with a strength equal to the [control] used in the original Sword Saint jutsu and is able to burn those that it comes in contact with based on the same control burn table. This expends the Sword Saint jutsu.

With a quick swirl of their blade, the user creates a wall of fire (4 feet radius circle) to be used as a distraction. While the fire can cause second degree burns, the main purpose is to be used to obscure vision of the user, as they quickly dash around the wall to reposition themselves for a quick and sudden strike out as the fire fades. Most of the time, the fire is able to cause the opponent to be unable to see where the attack is actually coming from.

Starting with a circular movement, the user channels chakra into their blade as they spin around. The Blessed Blade then starts to ignite the air around the user, creating a spinning vortex of fire around them, consuming nearby vegetation and plant life, catching it on fire as the user continues moving around. If the fire comes in contact with another person, it can cause second degree burns. The user can continue this action for (Endurance/4, minimum 1, posts) before they must stop.

By channeling chakra into their blade, the user causes fire to seemingly explode from the blade in a massive burst of light and heat. This causes those around the user to normally instinctively turn away and shield their eyes, or otherwise go temporarily blind for two posts. The blast hits at [control] strength and speed.

Aresaki • Dehydrating Strike

A devastating technique of the Aresaki style, the strike begins with a standard attack at any part of the opponent. While the goal is to pierce flesh with the strike, hitting armor can sometimes be just as effective. As soon as the sword makes contact with the target, the user unleashes a massive burst of Katon chakra, causing a mass of fire to explode outwards into and engulfing the target with at [control] speed and strength. As the user withdraws their blade and moves clear, the katon in and around the target detonates in a fiery follow-up explosion, tearing the target apart from the inside with [control] strength.

S-Ranked Nintaijutsu
Placing their sword upon the ground, the user channels chakra into their blade and causes small sparks of fire to erupt on the ground. The user then runs at full speed, scoring the outline of a burning shape into the ground with their sword. Upon returning to the starting point or triggering the jutsu with a seal, the sparks will fully ignite at [control] speed resulting in a great mass of fire exploding out and inwardly, forming an inferno contained within the shape drawn, or on a designated side of it if the shape was not complete. This is able to cause third degree burns to any targets within ten metres of the flames, increasing in severity with every post and completely charring almost anything inside the burning area with [control] strength. However, if the user wishes, they can cause the entire shape of fire to implode with a further blast of [control] explosive force by releasing their hand seal.

Toryu:
Toryu, a style of Kenjutsu founded in the Land of Pebbles, melds traditional kenjutsu swordplay with subversive feints and sudden bursts of close-quarters combat, two unyielding hills crashing together to form a mountain. Toryu typically favors the use of the blade with one hand, utilizing the freedom of movement to use one's hands, joints, legs, head, and even the hilt and handle of the sword to make an already deadly style more unpredictable and more lethal. Ignorantly considered a very "unrefined" style by most practitioners of the sword, Toryu is actually one of the most difficult styles of Kenjutsu to learn and master. The very basic premise of the style revolves around the firm control and manipulation of one's own movements and body, some techniques requiring execution while using another attack as a feint or misdirection while not sacrificing strength. The style has no weapon requirements outside of a sword, but many users often prefer kodachi, wakizashi, ninjato, or even tanto, the reduced size and weight of the blades having fewer blind spots and making the user's weapon more mobile.

The signature Stance of Toryu, practitioners relax the muscles in their bodies, gaining additional flexibility in their movements in how they approach the enemy, how they retreat, how they evade attacks, and how they attack the opponent. This Stance allows the practitioner to more easily read opponent's attacks and defend against them by evading in unusual ways, such as ducking, bending around, and quickly sidestepping attacks without needlessly exposing themselves to additional attacks. This fleet-footed Stance lets the practitioner mix up their movements to confuse and misdirect the opponent, allowing them to attack lesser-known openings in the opponent's guard. It also allows the practitioner to rapidly and reflexively change the angle, position and grip of their weapon with minimal movement, allowing them multiple manners in which they can attack the opponent or defend against attacks.

D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
A practitioner of Toryu is capable of attacking with every part of their body, even their heads. This Discipline represents the practitioner's capacity and experience with executing palm strikes, heel strikes, knee strikes, elbow strikes, and headbutts/skull bashes just as effectively as regular punches, kicks, and sword strikes. This Discipline allows the practitioner to consistently execute these kinds of attacks while minimizing or eliminating openings in their defenses or shock/damage they would experience while using these kinds of strikes.

The practitioner moves in and initiates a feint in the form of a thrust. Partway through the thrust, however, the practitioner twists their arm to the side and drops low, rotating and lashing out with a spinning low kick, attempting to sweep the opponent's feet out from under them. Opponents with an Acrobatics technique of equal or higher rank than this technique can resist the tripping effect.

Prerequisite(s): 8 Strength.
One of Toryu's many grappling techniques, the practitioner steps in close to the opponent, slamming their heel into the opponent's foot to lock the target in place. In the same movement, the practitioner grabs the opponent's arm and flips them over their back, slamming them to the ground unless the opponent has an Acrobatics technique of an equal or higher rank than this technique. The prone position this leaves the opponent in leaves them exposed to an attack of opportunity from the practitioner's weapon after executing this technique.

Prerequisite(s): 8 Strength.
Designed as a counterattack but also a potent attack by itself, the practitioner will first wait to block or parry an opponent's attack with their weapon. Then, the practitioner will quickly counter with a swift knee strike to the opponent's stomach or diaphragm to stun them or cause them to stagger by winding them, followed by a quick slash or stab to their chest or stomach. The practitioner may choose to use this as an attack instead by immediately leading off with the knee strike if they so wish. Opponents with equal or higher Endurance than the practitioner's Strength can resist being winded.

Many of the Toryu techniques would put the user in incredibly daring positions where a single mistake could instantly spell disaster for the swordsman. As a result, Toryu practitioners must train themselves constantly to avoid letting their fears distract them from their task. A practitioner with this technique has learned to shut out fear in the heat of combat, allowing them to perform attacks and techniques without the risk of failure due to fear responses.

A technique allowing the practitioner to partially customize their focus on defense or offense, the practitioner guards against attacks while immediately attacking subsequent openings with their free hand. The form this takes depends on which hand they prioritize for defense. Should they choose to guard with their sword hand, the practitioner deflects the attacks outwards, away from the opponent's center of mass where their guard is strongest, and responds by launching unarmed counter-attacks like a punch, elbow, or throw. If they choose to guard with their unarmed hand, the practitioner blocks the attack by intercepting the haft of the weapon or the opponent's wrists with the back of their fist or forearm and counter with more lethal slashes and stabs from their sword.

Prerequisite(s): 15 Strength, *[Toryu • Cobblestone Skeleton].
A brutal, raw technique, the practitioner quickly dashes into an opponent's range, often after avoiding an enemy attack, momentarily torquing the muscles in their legs before launching a powerful knee strike directly up into the target's diaphragm and sternum in an attempt to stagger the opponent. Aside from potentially fracturing or even breaking bones, the opponent can potentially be left winded. This sudden attack can potentially open up many vulnerable areas on the opponent's body for possible finishing moves.

Prerequisite(s): 25 Strength.
After much training with grappling, clinching, blocking, deflecting, and parrying weapons, the practitioner gains skin as sturdy as rock, allowing them even more avenues for defense and attack. This Discipline represent's the practitioner's body conditioning for toughening their skin all over their bodies, especially on their hands. This makes the practitioner's skin harder to cut or penetrate, and it allows the practitioner to perform normally self-destructive feats, such as blade catches, without needlessly harming themselves.

Prerequisite(s): *[Toryu • Granite Epitaph].
Varying in usefulness depending on the practitioner's position in relation to the opponent or the reach of the opponent's weapon, the practitioner places themselves slightly offset to one side in the path of an opponent's attack. The practitioner then attempts to catch the opponent's blade or weapon, latching on tightly at the weapon's dullest point before violently twisting and pulling the weapon away from the opponent. If the practitioner catches the opponent's weapon, and if the practitioner's Strength is higher than their opponent's average of their Strength and Endurance, rounded up, the practitioner can immediately yank the weapon from the opponent's grip, disarming them.

Prerequisite(s): Strength stat must be equal to or higher than Speed stat.
A full-committal technique, the practitioner will momentarily torque every muscle in their body as they evade an opponent's attack(s). As soon as an opportunity presents itself, the practitioner releases the tension and bursts forward instantly, immediately accelerating to their maximum Speed. In quick succession, the practitioner starts by slipping their foot between the opponent's legs and behind one of their knees to cut off escape and compromise the opponent's balance. Next, the practitioner hooks their arm around the opponent's elbow and puts pressure on the outside of the joint, forcing the arm to hyper-extend and expose their center of mass. Finally, in that short moment, the practitioner brings their sword to pierce any one of the opponent's vital organs or their aorta, though most practitioners aim for the heart. This technique is not without risk, as an opponent with an Acrobatics technique of equal or higher rank than this technique will be able to resist the practitioner's clinches and possibly even counterattack.

Yoshino was born to a relatively small and somewhat overlooked branch of the Hizashi clan whose family members rarely achieved the pinnacles of power that their brethren were known for, and whose gift in Kaenton and elemental ninjutsu had never been remarkable. This led to a tense upbringing for the young girl, who constantly felt belittled by her own kin. But instead of stamping down her ambition, it kindled it; even as a child, Yoshino kindled an intense pride in her name and her potential, and, defiant to assumption, she began training harder than anyone else she knew to prove her worth.

As a student, her eager approach to training put her ahead of most other students in terms of physical fitness, which helped compensate her gallingly substandard ninjutsu use. Through her formative years and after graduating as a genin she thus focused on her strength and speed with taijutsu to win. As a chuunin, she finally found the knack for her clan's ninjutsu, and proved not so shabby after all once she incorporated it into her training regimen. Not long after, her mixed skillset caught the eye of an aged Aresaki swordsman who took her under her wing. She trained with him for several years, eventually achieving the rank of Special Jounin owing to her exceptional talent with a blade and mixed nintaijutsu approach to combat.

As the great war erupted across the continent, Yoshino was pushed to the rank of Jounin and assigned to various squads of shinobi and Kaze no Kuni samurai squadrons as an envoy, escort, trainer, or unit commander as warranted by the situation.
